Gravity Falls Headcanons

Bill calls Ford, Icarus

Ford calls Mabel ‘sunshine’ and ‘princess’

Dipper sometimes sneaks out the house with Stan to go star gazing on the roof, they just talk about anything and everything

Mabel knows Fords hand size and makes him handmade gloves for when he’s self conscious about his hands and/or in public

Stan had a pet parrot when he was in high school

He named him Mr. Pickles

Stan tried to go to college a few time but either chickened out or had to skip town because the police were catching up

He eventually gave up trying

Ford had a fling with McGugget in college

Dipper and Robbie usually don’t get along but one time when Wendy was gone for a family trip, Dipper invited Robbie over to the shack for a horror movie marathon and they actually had fun (and also figured out that Robbie likes romcoms)

Mabel makes a new sweater everyday, sometimes makes one based on a person (she made a sweater for Lazy Susan made entirely out of cat hair) or a feeling she had that day (she once made a sweater entirely out of glittery fabric because she said she ‘felt like the crab from Moana’)

Pacifica and Mabel are dating but have to hide it from Pacifica’s parents because their homophobic (though if you ask a few of the guys around town, they’ll say Preston is a ‘wild cowboy’)

The Pines family tends to stay very far away from saying Bills name for the sake of each other except on certain days where they gather together and trauma dump to finally get the weight off their shoulders and just hug each other while watching Disney movies

When Bill would posses Ford in their early days, he would be violent but very flirtatious. This caused some old feelings in McGugget to return and eventually ask Ford out on a date, which he accepted but it never went further

While he was in between dimensions, Ford has been held hostage countless times and almost became a king of an entire planet

Filbrick abused Ford and Stan, mostly verbally and sometimes physically

Sherrie was a very protective brother but unfortunately wasn’t around when Stan and Ford started getting abused by their dad so when he came home after being in the military and he found out what happened, he nearly beat the shit out of Filbrick and gave Ford a serious talking to

Wendy is full on gay panic

She dated Robbie at first because she liked him but when high school started again, she quickly realized that testosterone was not her cup of tea

Wendy’s a lesbian, Stan’s bisexual, Ford’s panromantic and asexual, Dipper’s questioning, and Mable is pansexual

Bud and Stan used to date

Stan’s always wanted kids but once he was kicked out, he was never able to settle down and he was always afraid that he’d screw it up or be kicked out again

He still wants kids but he doesn’t think he deserves it anymore and with his age, he doubts he’d be able to land anyone with kids that are still kids

Besides, he’s got Dipper and Mable, his hands are already full during the summer (though he won’t admit it, he wishes he could keep them forever, he loves them so much and cries every time they leave)

Stan goes with Ford into the woods to see mythical creatures every chance he gets, wanting to make up for lost time

About a week before Mable and Dipper leave, the Pines family has a day where they all go out and sleep under the stars, telling fun stories of the summer and relaxing

After Gideon accepted Mable doesn’t like him, he and Mable became best friends and have countless makeovers, sometimes with Pacifica

Wendy teaches Dipper how to live in the woods and protect himself from wild animals

Ford takes Mable on small adventures to have mindless fun (he won’t admit it, but he’s considered her as his favorite from time to time)

Stan teaches Dipper how to box

Stan secretly threatens any bullies Dipper and Mable may have by just standing out in their front yard and ducking away when their parents come to check only to reappear doing something crazy like petting one of his fake attractions

Ford used to help Stan through panic attacks during school and would fight, albeit lose, kids that would talk down to Stan

HELLOOOO Desmond hours real. Des my darling my fucked up little guy. he is um. he's very much not V (cont. under the cut)

grew up in Pacifica. yikes! had connections with Mr. Hands that will come back later

got roped into Maelstrom pretty young under ripperdoc/mechanic pretenses

hence all the headgear! Maelstrom initiation involves an optic nerve operation [x] that afaik usually involves taking both eyes. Des made a case for only losing one, citing ripperdoc superstition about organics vs cybernetics, which went over like a lead balloon but ultimately panned out under the assumption that he'd just struggle more for it

did more ripping than doc-ing if you catch my drift (famously medical-tortured and forced implants on whoever the bosses targeted, killed A Lot Of People on the table, human experimentation, wrote the Maelstrom handbook on all of the above) and had no qualms about it

like I cannot stress enough that he was Bad News <3

if it wasn't for turbulence in the upper ranks, he would've gladly kept at the job indefinitely. but he and Royce had ✨️issues✨️. namely that Des was fiercely loyal to Brick and company, and by that point he'd climbed the ranks to a level where his opinion carried quite a bit of weight

so even before Royce took over, he was all worried about the discourse Des was starting about him and his posse

but shit didn't hit the proverbial fan until after the power transfer. Royce took over and stuck one of his guys under Des to be trained (a la train your replacement), Des was severely unimpressed, eventually tried to jump ship

and got caught! and got his turn on the table! lost a couple limbs to his replacement while making sure to make clear that "this motherfucker is an embarrassment to everything I built here". was probably more upset at the disregard of his legacy than the fact that he was most likely going to die very slowly

reputation is soooo important to him you see. and "Eyes" was infamous

anyway. Dum Dum busted him out (gave him an adrenaline shot and unlocked the back door)

which led to a pretty pathetic trudge through the city until he passed out on the street, and eventually got scooped up

enter Misty "we can't just let him die" and Vik "god dammit if you say so"

cue a long, slow recovery process. realization that he can't do the ripperdoc or mechanic work he knows with only one organic arm and a royally shitty cybernetic. merc work to pay Vik back (thanks Mr. Hands, hello again). Vik wants to try to teach him that he can relearn how to Fix Things. do you see my vision?

important that Maelstrom thinks he's dead so Royce doesn't keep sending goons after him. also important to build a new network

tricky to build a new network when his entire face says "I'm with famously violent gang Maelstrom" innit

but he's trying! and mostly trying to behave himself! and trying to build a new arm so he can do work he enjoys again (even if it's more doc-ing than ripping now)!

all to say I think he's neat and I think Maelstrom was woefully underexplored in the game so I'll do it through an oc 😌 the smaller details are unnecessary but entertain me deeply. he has a funny little casual on again/off again with Dietlinde (yes the Totentanz bartender with minimal canon personality). he and Dum Dum were dumbass buddies. his sense of humor is drier than the desert. he is A Junkie. nothing he knows about mechanics or medicine or engineering was learned in a classroom and you couldn't pay him to learn that way, but he picks it all up well in a practical environment. his pride will be (kind of already was) his downfall. he says shit off the cuff that thoroughly disturbs civilized company without even realizing he did it

Pacifica Northwest and Samantha Manson: Society Enemies

(preface: heck if I know if this's been done before, it's been years since I watched Gravity Falls, and I never actually watched Danny Phantom (it's on the List ok))

THAT BEING SAID

They were sat at the same children's table at various Events because they're both Girls, similar in age, and weren't supposed to bother anyone else.

Pacifica laughed at Sam and whatever her mother had forced her into to "look presentable", and at her burgeoning recycling tendencies and vegetarianism. Like sheesh, girl, get some better hobbies. Pacifica's mother would kill her if she ever rocked up with opinions like that, and there's only so much makeup can do about anger lines in your face.

Sam thinks Pacifica is a stuck-up, arrogant, selfish [redacted], and hates every second her mother makes her play nice. The Northwests are Older money by several generations and never stopped regarding the Mansons as "new" money. And also never stopped shutting up about it. Sam's mother has spent the better part of four decades schmoozing up to Pacifica's mother, so those two are the kind of friends only rich socialites could be (toxic). Sam, for her part, would rather be out and about. Gravity Falls is a *very* interesting place. She *definitevly* does not want to spend more time than necessary around Pacifica, let alone form the kind of friendship their mothers have.

When the Mansons leave the West Coast for Illinois, Sam says the worst thing that has ever been said to Pacifica, straight to her face. ("I don't care. See you never.")

YEARS LATER (but not many)

Sam and Pacifica are not preteens anymore. They're teenagers, which is worse.

Both have been dragged kicking and screaming through both character development and hell, and are, for some reason or other, at the same Event, without their support system. (The support system is in town, they just couldn't be at the Event due to Reasons)

They see each other. The room temperature drops. Kill Bill Sirens sound.

(Both do Not have the time for this nonsense, there is a supernatural threat in town, and here they are forced to rub elbows with the useless rich)

Their mothers, in the meantime, exchange snide remarks about how the other's daughter would be *so* much better a friend than the crew the own daughter is running with. (Pacifica and Sam decide that they're gonna keep their friends/support system as far away as possible from the other girl's posse)

Pacifica is aware of the supernatural situation, but Mabel and Dipper are on it. It's gonna be fine. It's gonna be fine. It's gonna be fine. She thinks the Manson girl, for her occult leanings (it's fairly obvious if you know what to look for, and Pacifica made sure after Weridmageddon that she does) (urgh, Mabel and Dipper are never allowed to meet Sam), is antsy in the exact wrong way. Pacifica is pretty damn sure Manson not only knows more than she lets on, but is also involved in this.

Sam, on the other hand, also knows what to look out for in occult terms and symbology and is very perturbed at what she glimpses from Northwest. Northwest, who does not appear to be worried in the slightest. Who keeps sending challenging looks her way. Sam has the cold realization that whatever this is, Northwest is in on it.

IN THE MEANTIME

The Pines twins and Team Phantom are doing their best to figure out what the heck is going on with a) the supernatural threat, and b) the other teens running around doing supernatural bullshit. The Pines twins have identified Phantom as an entity thst can overshadow others, so they're steering clear for now. Danny and Tucker in the meantime are somewhere between sus and worried about those two others who keep dodging them.

(They all laugh about it in the end. But for now, they're teens who do not communicate across team borders for various reasons.)

hey everyone i’m kat i’m so hyped to be here i love disney rps they’ve always been my guilty pleasure and pacifica’s been my favorite muse to rp for so long now and megs been my go to for her recently so when i saw this i knew i had to apply and i can’t wait to plot and hopefully become friends with you all and just know i’m open to almost anything so never be afraid to message me with a new plotting idea or just wanting to talk!!

about pacifica:

born into the northwest family sounds like a dream, growing up with a silver spoon in your mouth and getting whatever you want whenever, who wouldn’t want that? pacifica for one loved it, being able to throw money at anything to get what she wanted and live a seemingly perfect life. she loved the status, the luxury, the adoration from others, and most importantly the power and control. straight out of a cheesy teen movie she played the blonde mean rich girl part perfectly, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

still, despite that all there were more than plenty problems hidden at the northwest manor, hidden so well even she didn’t realize what was wrong with it. never noticing just how wrong they treated others, treated each other, that normal kids didn’t shake in fear at the sound of their parents ringing a bell.

growing up and realizing more and more just how little control and knowledge she had about her own life just made her want it in other things more, feeling the need to control others and the social circles around her, taking her fear and anger out on others to ensure her power in at least one part of her life. it was a cycle of violence, repeating the actions her parents do that bring her shame and pain to others.

money and beauty had always been the most powerful things in the world, and paz was lucky enough to not only have both but know how to use them to her full potential. it should be easy, but it seems something always has to get in the way and there was one thing her and her family lacked that no money could get rid of: magic. so they did the natural thing to do when you can’t fit in somewhere: push those people out. they shunned them, ashamed and jealous of the one thing they’d always lack.

she’s an aries sun, gemini moon, scorpio rising so a whole lot of mess but also excitement

on the surface level she’s the stereotypical mean girl, clad in designer clothes and a posse following her around, but deep down once you get past the layers of walls and emotional immaturity she’s a scared girl whos never had a real loving relationship or true friend in her life and desperately wants it but also is terrified of it so anything with her is gonna be a mess of emotions

she’s a total party girl like too much like my girls a hot mess im sorry

fashions her whole life like the devil wears prada is probably her favorite movie with saw being her guilty pleasure movie cuz horrors her secret guilty pleasure

Pacifica was trying to be a better person. The issue was- she didn’t quite understand how. Being ‘good’ was not something she’d ever been taught or encouraged to be until recent.

However, the opportunity to not be a complete and utter garbage fire of a human being presented itself when Pacifica saw a girl her age panicking in the middle of the mall. She grit her teeth as she heard the posse of girls she surrounded herself with start up, a thing that once filled her with delight, to put down others, now made her stomach churn and her to feel sick.

Pacifica looked around, trying to think fast. How could she get them to go away without bringing suspicion onto herself? She bit the inside of her cheek, she knew that if she were to suddenly defend this stranger there would be many questions. But, it suddenly struck her.

“Oh my god-” Pacifica pulled her phone out. “Did you hear Sephora was having a sale?” That was enough to get the girls to stop trying to mock the clearly distressed girl. Fine and well enough but now she had to get them all to go away without her. Pacifica scrolled through her phone, the store wasn’t really having a sale but she was pulling strings as fast as she could to make it happen. “We like, have to go there.” Pacifica frowned and touched her foundation. “You girls like, go ahead of me though. I need to fix my makeup.” Her makeup was perfect. But it was enough for the others to leave her alone. Finally.

Okay. She should say something now. Pacifica clutched her phone and hesitated before approaching the other girl. She... she should say something. But what?

Pacifica cleared her throat. “You like, you okay?” Great. Just perfect delivery. “You know next time you’re going to panic maybe don’t do it public.” Ugh no- wait, that came out wrong. Pacifica pinched the bridge of her nose. “I mean- like, you know just like... I don’t know. Be careful I guess?” UGH why was being a ‘better person’ so difficult?

Manny Rivera - He is the son a devil man who fell in love with a human woman, as a young man he lost the love of his life and was turned to stone by his ex lover who was a witch. A hundred years later when the cuse wears off he is assigned to protect Frida Suarez a nun. He is strong, can grow wings, has the power of pyrokenises, is flame retardant, and due to being half human he is immune to holy defenses against devils such as the cross. Sister Nora - Original character. The strict head nun of The Holy Order. She serves as both a teacher of the gospel and of exorcism. She is extremely devoted to God, likes to keep things on a tight schedule, and does not tolerance disobedience. She often clashes with Manny due to him being half devil and with Frida due to her rebellious nature but she cares deeply for them and the other four. She has a soft spot for children, has a hidden talent for playing piano, and is the only one who knows Gardner is an angel.

Solomon Van Helsing - Original character. The hardcore leader of the Helsing Organization. A direct descendant of famous vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing, he has devoted his life to hunting down vampires and training potential trainers. He became Connie's mentor and trained her from the time she was a child. He comes off as rough, stubborn, and sometimes doesn't know when to shut up but is a good man who fights and protects. Not only is he the best vampire hunter but he is also a scientist who has found a way to cure humans of vampirism.

Mabel Pines - Dipper's beloved twin sister, a sweet and cheerful young girl who loved her brother more than anything in the world. When Dipper left for war she received false news from a corrupted priest that he was killed in battle and was later raped by that same priest. Hysterical with grief and shame she killed herself by jumping off a cliff. Dipper blames himself for her death and will never rest until the priest who shamed her and caused her death pays.

Analia Montoya - A beautiful and compassionate holy woman who like Frida was gifted with healing powers. Years ago Manny fell in love with her and they were almost married but she was killed by a witch who happened to Manny's ex lover. He suffers terrible guilt over death and is unable to forgive himself. So here’s the Gravity Falls Heathers AU–the Mabel edition!So I’d imagine the Heathers in this universe would be known as the Northwests even though none of them are actually Northwests except Pacifica. However because Pacifica is a Northwest she has the power to make people honorary Northwests. Mabel wanting to be accepted in high school decided to sell her soul to Pacifica in order mingle with her clique.I ultimately decided to give the roles of Heather Duke and Heather McNamara to Pacifica’s nameless friends firstly because they were her original posse in canon and secondly because Duke and McNamara are fully developed characters I thought this AU could help flesh out them out in turn.

Candy I could see being Betty Finn as Mabel had to ditch her in order to be a Northwest but would later on rekindle her friendship with her once she realizes how good she had it with her. Grenda I could see being Martha, constantly being teased because of her weight. Mabel feels remorseful for writing the letter that made her laughingstock.She eventually befriends her in the end also. Hey I wanted to tell you that Im SO GLAD youre drawing so much Relativity Falls in the past time! That AU is my absoulute favourite but sadly it doesnt have so much fanart like other AUs... I have tons of headcanons! Do you have some?

thank you!! makes me happy seeing people enjoying it. it’s funny that relativity falls wasn’t one of my favorites but look at me now i’ve been obsessing about it for like a year. and share them! i crave relativity falls…

BOI IF I HAVE HEADCANONS. i have so much stuff but im always too lazy to write it down. i dont post as near as i wanted about this au. i wish i could draw it all. ok grab a drink and some snacks this gonna be long.

- it won’t be a happy ending if they go back to new jersey by the end of the summer. filbrick doesn’t much care about mabel and didn’t wanted to send the stans to gravity falls, but ma pulled the strings and convinced to let them go. there’s nothing that can take those boys from mabel and dipper now. but ma is always welcome in the shack to see them.

- dipper and mabel didn’t fight/none of them got kicked out. they just had different plans for college and stuff, they went different directions but kept in touch with eachother. they both travelled around a lot, sending each other pictures and knick knacks and updates on their projects. dipper met candy in college and they ended up doing research in gravity falls.

- it’s kinda hard figuring how stuff is gonna work with bill, becauset i don’t see dipper getting suspicious of candy, not willing to give up on the journals and being super devoted to bill. it’s just weird seeing them getting along. i do have ideas but eeh guess i won’t put it here now.

- i have some different ideas for the characters switching places: carla and grenda work at the shack with mabel, thistle is carla’s boyfriend (he’s the hippie stan says carla ran away with in boyz crazy), fiddleford and soos show up in this au’s “double dipper” and make friends with ford, and blind ivan is preston’s brother (shows up along with priscilla as preston’s posse like pacifica and those two girls).

- now that stan is far away from the guy that won’t aprove that, stan summer romances can also include boys. stan dates “norman” in tourist trapped.

- ford gets a notebook from the shack, draw his hand on it and that’s where he keeps his notes about the things he discovers. he didn’t wanted to modify the original journal. stan get brass knuckles, mabel kinda regrets she forgot those lying around but aww he looked so happy with them.

- stan gets gompers in the fair mabel organized. he wasn’t trying to, gompers was surprisingly a prize on some of the games, but stan warms up to him right away and keeps him.

- i think gideon would be dipper and mabel’s age so he’s bud’s grandpa. he could have known bill for a while and found journal 2 a while ago? some timeline stuff is complicated. gideon tried to pass as a psychic but as a grown man he couldn’t pull off his cute act, makes something up about buddy inheriting his powers. bud doesn’t like pretending to be a psychic and acting all cute, but he makes an efford to his grandpapi. gideon sends him off to make friends with stan so he could get close to mabel. it was an act before but bud starts liking stan as a friend for real. ford smells something fishy and doesn’t trust buddy very much. not sure how it goes but something went wrong and they see bud had the mystic amulet and think it was an act all along.

- stan is the one that does the lamby lamby dance. ford gets high on sugar easily, smiling dip is EVIL.

- ford isn’t insecure about not being manly, he got upset stan won in some test that was about “useless knowledge”. maybe he wanders off and bumps into an unicorn, who tells him they’re bearers of great knowledge. in the end it isn’t true, they’re jerks and all they do is gossip, they trick ford to do chores for them like combing their manes and foiling their hooves, promising that when he’s done they gonna share their knowledge.

- in “double dipper”, ford stands up for fidds and soos when he sees preston mocking them. they decide to settle it by winning the party crown. then ford is freaking out because AAAH IT WAS THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT I DONT KNOW HOW TO DANCE AND I CANT SING IN FRONT OF EVERYONE, stan comes up with a plan: they switch clothes and pretend to be each other.

- giffany and rumble switch places. giffany looks like chun-li and acts like a big sister to protect stan. rumble looks like he could be the captain of the karate club or something, like the sporty guy option on a dating sim.

- darlene is stan’s mermando. they were going to the pool that day, carla is there working as a lifesaver, ford got a job there too maybe to look cool and even though he’s not trying to woo carla, stan gets all grumpy that ford is getting all the attention. he walks off and meets darlene. not sure why she’s there but their kiss is gonna be like the spiderman kiss.

- despite being young ivan still have something to do with the society of the blind eye. not everything is in place and it’s kinda sad so uuh maybe tell me if you want me to tell?

- in “soos and the real girl”, grenda meets a sweet boy that works at the corndog place at the shopping aka marius.- ford tries to be the cupid in ‘the love god’. he doesn’t dislike thistle as stan does but i guess he was just done seeing whining about it and tries to set him up with shandra. shandra is friends with him and carla, she is very smart and a bamf but for now she just delivers the newspaper, aspiring reporter. it doesn’t work, after the potion-thing fades away they break up. thistle gives up in trying to get carla back and makes amends, they’re still friends.

- in “northwest mansion mystery”, they still have an angry ghost problem. pacifica isn’t bad like her parents in canon, but she still has been hiding all the bad things the northwests did. she didn’t had someone telling her she isn’t the worst, still worried she’s gonna be “another link in the world’s worst chain”. but she has an image to maintain and a business to run so that’s why she still goes to parties to laugh the snootiest of laughter. but she doesn’t hate the townsfolk and is very nice to her sons. stuff goes about the same, preston goes fetch ford to exorcise the ghost, stan/fidds/soos are at the party (and they meet lady melody!), the ghost is sealed in the mirror, the ghost breaks free and goes attack the party. pacifica is not letting people die just to protect her image, she tries to reach the gates lever but the ghost attack her, ivan and preston go defend her and they agree that opening the gates is a must. the townfolks come in and the ghost is happy. pacifica throws food in some other rich people she dislikes when no one is looking, but noticed preston left after the party got messier. i made preston nicer yeah. so maybe he was just reflecting if he should just come back to the party. ford brought a snack and they have a conversation, still tells him hes a jerk but maybe not completely hopeless. a more fun ending to that little bonding, ford throws whatever food he brought at him bc cmon you kinda deserve it but also makes preston chase him and they go back to the party. he was angry at first but it was kinda fun in the end.

OKAY UM, i ended up doing more episode-related stuff, maybe i forgot somethings but okay. i still have plenty of headcanons about the characters in particular, little things that aren’t important to the plot, a few episode ideas, etc but its too long already. hit me if you wanna hear about those as well and and uuh

7ª MOSTRA ECOFALANTE DE CINEMA AMBIENTAL

COMPETIÇÃO LATINO-AMERICANA REÚNE 28 FILMES DE OITO PAÍSES DA REGIÃO*

Considerado como o mais importante evento audiovisual sul-americano dedicado a temas socioambientais, a 7ª Mostra Ecofalante de Cinema Ambiental tem 28 títulos selecionados para a sua Competição Latino-Americana deste ano. Os prêmios serão de R$ 15 mil para o melhor longa e de R$ 5 mil reais para o melhor curta-metragem (filmes de até 60 minutos) eleitos pelo júri. Haverá ainda a entrega de um troféu para o melhor filme designado pelo público.

Estão representadas produções de oito países da América Latina: Argentina, Bolívia, Brasil, Chile, Colômbia, Honduras, México e Peru. A competição recebeu novo recorde de inscrições, em um total de 383 filmes, de 18 nações da região.

A Mostra Ecofalante de Cinema Ambiental celebra a Semana Nacional do Meio Ambiente e o Dia Mundial do Meio Ambiente (que se comemora no dia 5 de junho) eacontece de 31 de maio a 13 de junho em diversas salas da cidade de São Paulo, com entrada franca.

O evento ocupa o Cine Reserva Cultural, Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, Espaço Itaú Augusta e o Circuito Spcine, além de diversos outros espaços, e é uma realização da ONG Ecofalante, do Ministério da Cultura, do Governo Federal, e da Secretaria da Cultura do Governo do Estado de São Paulo. É uma correalização da Spcine, da Secretaria de Cultura da Prefeitura de São Paulo e do Instituto Goethe. Tem patrocínio da Sabesp e Tigre, com apoio da White Martins, Kimberly-Clark e Pepsico e épossível graças à Lei de Incentivo à Cultura e ao Programa de Apoio à Cultura (ProAC).

Segundo a curadoria, a Competição Latino-Americana chega a sua quinta edição sinalizando, por um lado, questões socioambientais agudas da região e, ao mesmo tempo, o crescimento e a sofisticação de sua produção audiovisual voltada ao tema.

Entre os destaques da competição está o curta-metragem colombiano “A Selva o Conhece Melhor que Você Mesmo” (de Juanita Onzaga, Colômbia/Bélgica), que focaliza dois gêmeos em busca de paisagens místicas na selva colombiana e foi vencedor do prêmio especial do júri da mostra Generation 14plus do Festival de Berlim, além de ter participado de eventos na Alemanha, Bélgica, Canadá, Espanha, Islândia, México e Suécia, entre outros países.

Já “Cidade Maia” (de Andrés Padilla Domene, México/França) é uma mistura de documentário e ficção científica que aborda um grupo de descendentes maias urbanos que operam um misterioso instrumento a fim de realizar uma pesquisa num sítio arqueológico, tendo sido selecionado para o prestigioso Festival de Roterdã e para eventos na Alemanha, Rússia, Suíça, Brasil, Croácia e Kosovo.

Transcorrido em um povoado mineiro na Bolívia, no qual um rapaz vai conhecer histórias obscuras sobre seu passado, “Velha Caveira” (Bolívia), do estreante Kiro Russo, se transformou no título boliviano mais laureado dos últimos anos, tendo vencido o Festival de Cartagena de Índias e conquistando o grande prêmio no IndieLisboa, o prêmio da crítica internacional para produções latino-americanas no Festival do Rio, o prêmio de melhor fotografia no Festival RiverRun (EUA) e menções especiais nos festivais de Locarno e BAFICI de Buenos Aires.

O longa-metragem peruano “Rio Verde, o Tempo dos Yakurunas” (de Alvaro Sarmiento e Diego Sarmiento, Peru) é guiado por cantos ayahuasca para promover uma jornada poética pelas profundezas da Amazônia, tendo sido lançado internacionalmente na seção Fórum do Festival de Berlim e premiado em festivais na Itália, Tailândia e na Venezuela, foi ainda selecionado em eventos nos EUA e Chile.

Premiado no Festival de Guadalajara, a Produção de Honduras “Berta Vive” (de Katia Lara, Honduras) aborda o assassinato da líder indígena Berta Cáceres e a luta contra a instalação de uma barragem em um rio sagrado para o povo Lenca.

Dois títulos representam na Competição Latino-Americana deste ano a produção argentina. “Corp” (de Pablo Polledri, Argentina), tem por tema a ambição, exploração do trabalho e poluição ambiental, tendo vencido o laureado como melhor animação nos festivais de Havana e Caostica (Espanha), entre outros prêmios. Por sua vez,“Fronteira Invisível” (de Nicolás Richat e Nico Muzi, Argentina) discute a Colômbia após o tratado de paz com as FARC e a atual corrida de latifundiários para aumentar sua produção de óleo de palma. A obra foi selecionada para eventos de 24 países, da Austrália aos EUA, da Argentina à Rússia, da Itália ao Peru.

Do Chile foram selecionados “O Eterno Retorno” (de Roberto Mathews, Chile) e “Terra Solitária” (de Tiziana Panizza, Chile). O primeiro é um ensaio colhido após a catástrofe do incêndio da cidade chilena de Valparaíso em 2014 e foi vencedor do prêmio de melhor curta-metragem nacional experimental no Fesancor – Festival Chileno de Curtas-Metragens, além de ser selecionado para eventos na Argentina, Bolívia e Colômbia. “Terra Solitária” focaliza documentários filmados na Ilha de Páscoa há quase um século e revela que este destino turístico já foi uma prisão. A obra foi selecionada para festivais nos EUA, França, Espanha, Suíça, Portugal e Ucrânia, entre outros.

Brasil

A representação brasileira é integrada por 19 filmes, sendo oito deles longas-metragens.

Entre eles está “Dedo na Ferida”, novo filme do diretor Silvio Tendler (dos sucessos “Os Anos JK – Uma Trajetória Política”, “Jango” e “O Veneno Está na Mesa”). Aqui ele trata do fim do estado de bem-estar social, com milhões de pessoas peregrinando em busca de melhores condições.

Já “Baronesa” (de Juliana Antunes) acontece em um bairro na periferia de Belo Horizonte onde duas mulheres enfrentam os perigos da guerra do tráfico e as tragédias das chuvas. A obra conquistou, entre outras premiações, a de melhor documentário no Festival de Havana, prêmio do público no Festival de Marselha e o prêmio da crítica no Festival de Valdivia e na competição latino-americana do Festival de Mar del Plata. No Brasil, venceu a competição Aurora da Mostra de Tiradentes, o prêmio de melhor montagem e de melhor atriz na Mostra Internacional em São Paulo e de melhor filme e melhor roteiro no Festival de Vitória.

Exibido em première mundial na Mostra Ecofalante de Cinema Ambiental, “Sertão Velho Cerrado”, revela buscas alternativas empreendidas por moradores da Chapada dos Veadeiros para o desenvolvimento de sua região. A direção é assinada por André D’Elia, que venceu com “A Lei da Água” o prêmio de melhor filme pelo público da Competição Latino-Americana na 4ª Mostra Ecofalante de Cinema Ambiental.

A história da tribo indígena Krenak, desde a declaração da “guerra justa”, pelo rei português D. João 6º em 1808, até o desastre ambiental no Rio Doce, causado pela ruptura da barragem de minérios em Mariana, em 2015, está no longa-metragem “Krenak”. Atualmente, o povo reivindica uma revisão territorial de suas terras demarcadas com a adesão da área de Sete Salões – conjunto de cavernas considerado por eles terra sagrada –, além de seu direito à vida. A produção tem direção deRogério Corrêa, do longa “No Olho da Rua”.

Selecionado para os festivais Hot Docs (onde foi um dos 12 finalistas segundo o público), Guadalajara, Havana, Toulouse e Human Rights Human Wrongs (Oslo),“Estado de Exceção” é uma coprodução Brasil/Canadá dirigida por Jason O’Hara que focaliza, às vésperas da Copa do Mundo FIFA de 2014 e os Jogos Olímpicos Rio 2016, uma comunidade indígena urbana ameaçada de despejo. Filmado ao longo de seis anos, o filme retrata como, à medida que os megaeventos começam a ameaçar uma série de outras comunidades, os residentes se unem para lutar em defesa dos seus direitos constitucionais.

Em meio à maior crise hídrica da história de São Paulo, os realizadores Flavia Angelico e James Robert Lloyd promovem uma investigação sobre a gestão de recursos hídricos na cidade no longa “Agua Mole Pedra Dura”. Premiada no Festival Awareness, a produção foi ainda selecionada para os festivais de documentários de Atlanta e G2 Green Earth (ambos nos EUA) e para o Eco Film de Kuala Lumpur (Malásia).

Em “Espólio da Cidade”, a dupla de cineastas Paulo Murilo Fonseca e Andre Turazzi retrata a visão de seis pessoas que têm suas vidas relacionadas a edifícios tombados na cidade de São Paulo. Está presente a tensão entre memória e desenvolvimento urbano, além da complexidade das questões ligadas a preservação e a conservação do patrimônio arquitetônico da cidade.

Premiado como melhor longa-metragem baiano e vencedor do prêmio do público no Panorama Internacional Coisa de Cinema, “Quilombo Rio dos Macacos”, de Josias Pires Neto, mostra como aquela localidade enfrenta conflito pela propriedade da terra de uso tradicional, que é também reivindicada pela Marinha. Além de denunciar graves violações de direitos humanos, o filme registra processos de negociações e documenta aspectos culturais, simbólicos e características do território.

Completa a programação um total de 11 curtas e médias metragens brasileiros.

Obra selecionada para a Quinzena dos Realizadores do Festival de Cannes, “Abigail” (de Isabel Penoni e Valentina Homem) focaliza a indigenista Abigail Lopes, que viveu em um ambiente masculino e formou-se imbuída dos princípios humanistas da ‘pacificação’

Dirigido por Fellipe Fernandes e protagonizado por Nash Naila (de “Tatuagem”), “O Delírio é a Redenção dos Aflitos” também esteve selecionado em Cannes, na seção Semana da Crítica. O enredo acompanha a última moradora de um edifício condenado e que precisa se mudar o mais rápido possível para salvar sua família. O filme foi ainda premiado no Festival de Brasília do Cinema Brasileiro como melhor direção, melhor roteiro e melhor direção de arte.

Na escuridão de uma boate, um cabeleireiro e uma bombeira tentam a sorte como cantores enquanto promovem sua carreira do estúdio para o palco. Este é o enredo de“Estás Vendo Coisas”, de Bárbara Wagner e Benjamin de Burca, selecionado para o Festival de Berlim e vencedor do prêmio Canal Brasil no Festival de Vitória, além de ter sido selecionado para eventos no Canadá, Bélgica, Espanha, Inglaterra, Israel, México, Noruega, Portugal, Suécia, Turquia e Ucrânia.

Em “A Terceira Margem”, uma coprodução francesa dirigida por Fabian Remy, acompanhamos uma jornada pela região central do país em busca do passado de João Kramura, filho de sertanejos roubado e criado pela tribo Kayapó. A obra foi premiada pela Abraccine – Associação Brasileira de Críticos de Cinema no É Tudo Verdade, recebeu o prêmio do melhor primeiro filme no Festival Traces de Vies (França) e foi selecionado para eventos nos EUA, França, Colômbia, Grécia e Taiwan

Uma personagem que foi expulsa de casa e precisa construir seu próprio barraco enquanto um projeto de expansão do maior porto da América Latina avança, não só sobre ela, mas sobre todos os moradores da Favela da Prainha (Santos, SP) está no centro de “Estamos Todos Aqui”. Dirigido por Chico Santos e Rafael Mellim, o curta foi selecionado para o Festival de Cartagena de Índias e venceu o prêmio de melhor curta-metragem brasileiro segundo o público no Festival Mix Brasil, além de ter sido eleito como o melhor curta-metragem pelo júri do Canal Brasil na Mostra de Tiradentes.

Uma história familiar da diretora Manuela Andrade está em foco no curta “Fantasia de Índio” quando ela resolve continuar as pesquisas de um tio que investigou suaascendência indígena.

A produção foi selecionada para os festivais Janela de Cinema do Recife, Mostra de Tiradentes, Mostra do Filme Livre e Mostra de Cinema Feminista.

Já “Histórias de Cumaru”, de Simone Giovine, aborda o cumaru, que era usada pelo povo Kayapó como remédio e hoje é utilizado para a produção de cosméticos. A obra já esteve selecionada para eventos nos EUA, Dinamarca, Itália e Bangladesh.
