This is a monument to the US colonization of the Philippines. The US killed at least 200,000 Filipinos in the Philippines-US war and US imperialism until now greatly affects the Philippines. The struggle for liberation of colonized peoples is one. I, for one, welcome this defacement, and would actually like to see it vandalized even more.

I mourn for this country and it's refusal to break from a long tradition of abuse.

reading histories on gender in the philippines really only solidifies how intertwined trans and women's liberation is.
"Gender crossers enjoyed a comparatively esteemed status in pre-colonial Philippine society simply because women enjoyed a similar status ... This was the state of affairs when the Spanish arrived. Over the centuries, as the status of women progressively deteriorated, gender crossing in the traditional sense became more and more difficult, with the gender crosser suffering from the ridicule and scorn which only the Spanish brand of medieval Mediterranean machismo could inflict." (J. Neil C. Garcia, Male Homosexuality in the Philippines: a short history)
misogyny and transphobia, in the philippines at least, comes from an imperial context. true trans liberation for the filipino queer would never adapt misogynistic rhetoric, just as true female liberation would never work with trans-exclusive motives. it would also never settle for neoliberal imperialist bullshit.

Mukha silang Cherry Blossoms at Wisteria.

Oh yeah, if any of y'all have any questions about the Philippines, Filipino language, culture, history, and other Filipino things, feel free to send me an ask and I'll do my best to answer it this weekend!
I wanna start just doing this every so often since I love learning ew things and talking about them.
Note: I am not an expert by any means just an extremely nuerodivergent Filipino who had a hyperfixation on Filipino history since 7th grade. My only credentials is qualifying twice for national competitions lmao

Marcos-Duterte possibly "winning" the elections is so bad that the Philippines' Big 4 Universities (University of the Philippines, University of Sto. Thomas, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University) all declared an academic walk out.
No classes under Marcos presidency.
The youth is mad, the youth is pissed. The Filipinos will not stand for this blatant rigging and cheating of the elections.
Titindig tayo.

"Processional statuary is owned and kept at home by Filipino families. In Spain and Spanish America, they are owned and kept either by the Church or by confraternities. Locally, the icons are referred to with parental terms. Mary is "Ina" [Mother]; while Christ, the Son of God, is called "Ama" [Father]. The last, "Christ Our Father," is strange from the point of view of official theology. Are these icons unconsciously looked upon as symbolic ancestors by particular families? This could be explored. For now, I should mention that in Tagalog and Pampango families these icons are given titles to orchards and rice lands to ensure their maintenance in perpetuity. They have thus become part of the family. Moreover, they are bathed and dressed regularly. Much like the corpse of the pre-Hispanic datu, these icons are regarded as protection against intruders. "My family feels safer because of our life-sized Cristo de la Paciencia [Christ Resting after the Scourging]" confided my dentist, the late Dr. Mario Villacorta. Indeed he would drape his dental jacket over it. Another lady, the owner of a famous nineteenth-century mansion in Bulacan, said that every night, she would take out the life-sized image of Christ-in-the-Coffin, place it on her bed and hug it for protection."
