Fun Fact
BuzzFeed published a report claiming that Tumblr was utilized as a distribution channel for Russian agents to influence American voting habits during the 2016 presidential election in Feb 2018.
7-ounce balls, I hope. The size of the dough can be varied by size and it will take a while to work out the dough and the shape. One size down may be better, though, because, well, that was a dough I hadn't thought about baking. I may do it again in the future to make sure there's a longer consistency for the roll. Now it's time to add some more foodstuff.
I’ve been thinking, in the last day or so, about how careful I normally am with things I say, even when those things don’t hugely matter (like, journalists need to be careful when reporting on the actual news, it’s probably fine if someone’s a bit careless when discussing a sitcom), I probably don’t need all the caveats and “to be fair”s and “obviously we don’t know all the facts” that I include. For example, when it was first announced almost three months ago that Mock the Week would be canceled, I knew what my own thoughts were about why it was occurring, but before posting on here, I considered the fact that we don’t know for sure and isn’t responsible to suggest something without acknowledging that the truth is unclear. So my way of expressing those thoughts was to write this shit, in some post from early August:
So basically, if the only consideration were saving money, it would not make sense to cut a show as cheap to make as Mock the Week. I suspect the decision was partly money and partly politics, and I don’t know how much of each, but when the BBC’s director general has been quoted as complaining about too many left-wing shows on the BBC, you can’t blame people for at least speculating about the cause when left-wing BBC shows get canceled. Especially because it looks like Mock the Week was doing fine, ratings-wise.
When what I wanted to say was:
Ed Byrne seemed to reach a genuine level of not giving a fuck in his final Mock the Week appearance. Obviously some comedians affect a “not giving a fuck” attitude in their general persona, for comic effect. And any comedian can, at some point during some show or other, find themselves in a situation where the funniest thing to do is not give a fuck, so they’ll let go a little more than usual. But I feel like Ed Byrne at the end of Mock the Week was a rare look at a comedian who was genuinely out there not giving a fuck, behaving that way not because it was the funniest thing to do, but because he didn’t give a fuck. To do that baseless speculation thing that I normally avoid, I wouldn’t be surprised if if it turns out he was a bit drunk.
I might start trying to live my life more like Ed Byrne in Mock the Week s21e04, episode #231 of 232 in the total Mock the Week catalogue, and episode #76 of 76 in the “Ed Byrne appears on Mock the Week” catalogue.
