Why “Put It Down” is my favorite SP episode.

Ok, I know what we’re all thinking. “Ofc it is it’s a Creek episode.” But that’s not really why.

The main reason Put It Down is my #1 is because of the character development of one Craig Tucker.

Season 21 is iconic in my eyes for a few reasons: PC Principal & Strong Woman, President Garrison, the cultural and pop culture references throughout, but in PID, what stands out to me most is how WELL the A plot and B plot mesh together. The A plot, of course, is Tweek’s struggle with feeling overwhelmed with all that’s going on in the world and feeling like he has no control over his life, and the B plot is Cartman’s vying for attention by threatening suicide.

I could go into detail about the differences in the opening scene vs the end, but I’ll keep it brief bc ik no one cares abt what my ass has to say lmao. Just the sheer difference in CONTROL and confidence Tweek exhibits in the end vs the beginning with his performance is something in and of itself. The change he goes through over the course of the story, finding a healthy outlet for his emotions w the help of his boyfriend, while ultimately being the one to save himself, is one of my favorite messages to come out of sp to date.

So Craig Tucker. My favorite SP kid besides the core four, and the guy whose development I really want to talk about.

Craig really isn’t someone who easily empathizes with others, doesn’t show emotion easily, and can come across as uncaring, even though he’s definitely not. Throughout the episode, he WANTS to help Tweek, but goes about it in the wrong way. He offers solutions, distractions, logic, and doesn’t understand when Tweek tells him that’s not what he needs.

Craig is a lot more logic oriented than most of the other sp kids, and is very much a problem—> solution kind of person. He, understandably, grows frustrated with Tweek for what he sees as overreacting, until the A and B plots cross over, and, through Heidi’s words to Cartman, realizes that not everything has to HAVE a solution, and that’s okay.

He realizes that the best way to help his boyfriend with his anxiety is not by distracting him, throwing facts at him, or any of that. It’s by allowing him the space to feel what he needs to feel, and go from there.

Like I said, that’s one of my favorite messages to come from a SP episode. A lot of the time, answers aren’t going to help, but feeling listened to will. That’s what Craig learns, and THAT, fellow SP enjoyers, is why Put It Down is at the top of my list (also the song, I mean c’mon)

Why Creek the best couple in south park?

Craig and Tweek are the perfect couple. They completely complement each other and fit together. As it is right in relationships there are archetypes. Tweek is disturbing. He needs to feel needed. Often archetypes of this type get stuck in thoughts about the past or worries about what might happen. It is important for such people that a partner gives them a sense of security.

Craig - reflects the supporting archetype. Reliable, loyal, calm. Such a person is an indispensable “vest” for his partner. You can say, a shoulder on which you can lean. Just the same, these two archetypes are made for each other to be close. They harmonize perfectly. In the beginning, their relationship was fake. They did it to calm the city. But, later it grew into a real healthy relationship. When you look at their relationship, you get inspired. Their problems, joy, sadness. Tweek despite his panic attacks, he is still strong. Tweek needs a person who will guide him in the right way. Remembering the series where Tweek was afraid that he would be kidnapped, no one wanted to talk to him normally, show how the world works, and when a pedophile explains to him that the world is not so bad (which is ironic), he calms down and he draws conclusions, so Craig is the perfect person for Tweek . Craig is the one who will always support him. Craig not only changed with Tweak (for the good) but also changed the tweak. Their personalities are perfect for helping each other. Craig has changed from a 2nd class bully, and a cynic. To a fairly sociable class member and supportive person. After season 19, their relationship is not mentioned very often. A major change in season 21, in the episode "Put It Down" you can see how Tweek and Craig communicate in private, without any need to pretend. Craig uses affectionate call signs such as "dear", "honey" to Tweek while holding his hand. He tries to calm him down. When he finally managed to calm Tweek, he stops twitching, smiles and remains calm in the flesh until the end of the series. Although their relationship was provoked by the public, they still fell in love with each other. In the game, they temporarily part when Tweek goes to the other side. As a result, they can be tried on during the passage, after which they acquire a powerful attack that they carry out holding hands (it is made in the anime style), it is also found out that Tweek gave Craig gets a new guinea pig, Stripe, to replace the one that died, and Craig says she's special because she belongs to Craig and Tweek, after which he adds "yes Craig is super gay." which is another support for the fact that the relationship of the guys from the simulated ones has become real. In further appearances after season 21, Tweek became much less shaky and blinking, thanks to Craig he became more confident in himself, in the post-Covid episode we are shown South Park after 40 years. As you can see, Tweek and Craig are still together.

Zach the self-centered, cleaning obsessed, man child strikes again! This time he has it out for all the birds! But karma will come for him! Zach starts out the episode consuming a delicious cookie served to him on a silver platter on his favorite pillow on a park bench…uhhh, that’s a bit much, lol. And when a pigeon shows interest in his cookie, he mocks the pigeon, then it takes his cookie…karma. Zach has his Zachbots painting a portrait of him and when they invade his space he scares them instead of listening to Chris’s warning. Then the pigeons crap all over his portrait and he gets whacked by the bird swatter 😂…karma.

Zach refuses to wait to clean his building until after Fluff has learned to fly…he and the Kratts battle it out! Until Aviva shows up, and instructs the Zachbots to fly south…and have them take Zach with them. Also…karma.

could i bother you for your general opinion on venture bros, having watched it recently? i've been interested in it and know it has devoted fans, but most of the fans i see have been so for a long time- and i haven't been sure if the less-than-stellar aspects of it would be worth tolerating as someone with no pre-existing nostalgia for it. you're very good at offering nuanced thoughts, so i thought i'd ask. thanks!

i ended up loving the show, but it definitely has a lot of jokes in earlier seasons that haven't aged well, as is the case for basically any adult comedy series from the '00s. racial stereotypes that are probably intending to mock the racial stereotypes in the jungle adventure shows they're parodying but don't always hit the mark, jokes where characters speculate about whether or not dr. girlfriend is trans because of her voice, a minor recurring character who's a parody of the thing who's an extremely crude ableist stereotype (and also for a stretch of multiple seasons it feels like they had a quota to say the R slur at least once an episode), the pedophilia jokes with sergeant hatred, etc.

the thing is, like i said, it's kind of just what i expect for a comedy series from the '00s? obviously there was shit like south park, and the early seasons of always sunny loved to try and push the envelope, but even TV-14 network sitcoms like scrubs or the office had these sorts of issues. it's there, and you should be braced for it if you're gonna watch the show, but it feels like it revels in "politically incorrect" shock humor WAY less than a lot of concurrent comedy central and adult swim shit did. it's worlds apart from something like drawn together, which is just unwatchable. and most importantly it isn't trying to drive home some sort of insufferable libertarian moral, unlike south park. it just has some jokes i roll my eyes at

thankfully, as the show went on a lot of this was toned down and/or phased out entirely. but even in the front half of the show there were consistently tons of jokes that hit the mark for me, and i found the gradual shift towards more dramatic storytelling (without sacrificing the humor) really, really engaging. henchman 21 gets singled out as a character with an incredible arc, but i also loved seeing hank and dean go from being bumbling hardy boys parodies whose irrelevance was always the butt of the joke to being characters i actually cared about. and if you like superhero stuff at all, their take on organized supervillainy where it's effectively a union job where you're assigned an arch nemesis to torment is a lot of fun. the show just really gets how fun it is to follow the daily lives of over-the-top supervillains

there are a lot of comedy shows from that era i just can't go back to, but watching the venture bros. for the first time in 2023 i had a really good time

The girl South Park characters are slightly under appreciated. @spinthetags’s survey where Jimmy is currently beating Wendy reminds me of that. I feel like Wendy, Bebe and even Heidi are pretty iconic, and they’ve been a part of the show for a very long time. Even Heidi, even though she wasn’t given a roll until season twenty and everyone hated her (including me) because of how she ruined Cartman that season.

Also Henrietta Biggle does not count. I cannot believe she beat Bebe she is not that good, not better than Bebe (imo)

There is a really interesting blog called "Fluent Forever" that aids foreign language learners in tricks, tips and techniques to guide them to achieving fluency "quickly" and efficiently. One of the tricks is to learn these 625 vocab words in your target language, that way you have a basis to start delving into grammar with ease as you can understand a lot of vocab right off the bat.
