I am a camera
When I first visited here, maybe twenty years ago, I fell in love with the place; the eccentricity, the thrown-togetherness and all the strange little details that made the place unique. I had been a shut in for the best part of ten years on a soulless 80’s housing estate in a northern town where I was constantly glared at for being me. Hastings started to feature in my painting back then as…

December Walks
December walks this season have been plentiful. Hastings was a good start on the coldest day of the year so far! I got off the stop before Hastings to walk from St Leonards to Hastings. It was truly freezing, but less than 2 miles.  I love December walks, as they are fresh and the sky is amazing as it gets cold, yet stunningly bright. It’s fab to visit different towns, see the lights and get…

The churches of the town of Dunwich slowly falling into the sea one after another, as described in a topographical and historical description of the county of suffolk (1829):
"Gardner, in his historical account of Dunwich, observes, that one of the two carves of land, taxed in the reign of Edward the Confessor, was found to be swallowed up by the sea, at the time of the survey made by order of William the Conqueror. The church of Felix, and the cell of monks, were lost very early. In the first year of Edward the Third, the old port was rendered entirely useless, and before the twenty-third year of that king's reign, a great part of the town, with upwards of 400 houses, which paid rent to the fee-farm, with certain shops and windmills, were devoured by the sea. After this the church of St. Leonard was overthrown; and, in the fourteenth century, the churches of St. Martin and St. Nicholas were also destroyed by the waves. In 1540, the church of St. John Baptist was taken down; and in the same century the chapels of St. Anthony, St, Francis, and St. Catharine, were overthrown, with the South Gate and Gild Gate, and not one quarter of the town left standing. ... In the reign of Charles I, the foundation of the Temple buildings yielded to the irresistible force of the undermining surges, and in 1677 the sea reached the market-place. In 1680 all the buildings north of Maison Dieu lane were demolished, and in 1702 the sea extended its dominion to St. Peter's church, on which it was divested of the lead, timber, bells, and other materials, the walls only remaining, which tumbled over the cliff as the water undermined them; and the town hall suffered the same fate. In 1715 the gaol was undermined and in 1729 the farthest bounds of St. Peter's churchyard fell into the sea. In December 1740, the wind blowing very hard from the north-east, and continuing for several days, occasioned terrible devastations for a great part of the cliffs were washed away, with the remains of St. Nicholas's churchyard, as also the great road which formerly led into the town. ... All Saints, as observed before, is the only church of which any portion is still standing.*"
*All Saints Church has, since this account was written, entirely fallen into the sea.

The Gothic Revival Ecclesiastical, one of a kind 1828 Villa, The Clock House, in St. Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex, England, is on the market for £2,500,000,  $2,827,710 approx USD. And, it’s a doozy- $2.8M is a bargain for this.
Tumblr media
This home has the best hallways leading to its rooms.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, here’s the sitting room. I quickly scanned the description b/c it’s very long, and I didn’t see anything about the furnishings coming with the house, but really, if you’re going to buy this place, you NEED the furnishings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The dining room is a light and bright space.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This kitchen is crazy- it has a regular stove and an  Aga.
Tumblr media
See what I mean about the halls? Look at the original floor.
Tumblr media
Can you believe the fireplace in the library?
Tumblr media
This is the main bd.’s sunroom. Look at the wide plank original floor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is this crazy or what? I would have to buy those statues on the wall.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some amazing bd. isn’t it?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How about the whimsical bath? The Madonna statue is holding a bath house sign.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hallway, possibly the front entrance.
Tumblr media
One of the other bds. There are 4.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Love the wallpaper in this room.
Tumblr media
Here’s another fabulous bath. The tub is right in front of the fireplace.
Tumblr media
And, THIS red and gold bd.
Tumblr media
The cellar is completely illuminated. Not creepy at all. There’s a workshop in the back, as well. I remember posting this home before and I cannot believe that this couple is selling it. I wonder why.
Tumblr media
Hallway to the gardens.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The grounds are incredible, and it’s like an oasis in the middle of the city.
Tumblr media
This is the street entrance- the home doesn’t look that large b/c the property goes down in the back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can see how the property goes in this view. I still would like to know why they’re selling. (Haunted?)

"Once Anthony travelled to the city of Rimini. The city leaders ordered everyone to ignore him, so no one turned up for his homilies. Wherever St Anthony went, he was greeted by silence.
St Anthony walked along praying and reflecting upon what had happened. As he walked outside of the town, he came to the mouth of the Marecchia River.
He called out, “You, fish of the river and sea, listen to the Word of God because the unbelievers do not wish to hear it.” Suddenly there were thousands of fish neatly arranged in rows, all pushing their heads through the surface of the water as if they were straining to listen to every one of St Anthony’s words.
The people of Rimini, seeing this miracle, gathered to listen to Anthony. What began with simple interest in an extraordinary event turned into a passionate conviction that St Anthony was speaking to their very hearts. They were so moved by St Anthony’s words, by his call to conversion, that they abandoned their hardened positions and returned to the Church. As we stated above, we are not sure that this story is historic, but it certainly does represent a version of what often happened when St Anthony preached: that many hardened sinners were converted through the unselfish love of St Anthony."
- OFM Conventuals, Italy
This mosaic St Anthony is by Leonard McComb and can be found in Westminster Cathedral, London. 13 June is his feast day.

SAINT OF THE DAY (November 26)
Tumblr media
St. Leonard was born on 20 December 1676 in Porto Maurizio, Italy.
He was given the name Paul Jerome Casanova by his father, Domenico Casanova, a sea captain, and his mother, Anna Maria Benza.
When he was 13, he was placed with his uncle Agostino to study for a career as a physician, but when the boy decided against medicine, his uncle disowned him.
He then began to study at the Jesuit College in Rome.
On 2 October 1697, he joined the Franciscans of the Strict Observance and took the name Brother Leonard.
He was ordained in Rome in 1703. He taught for a while and expected to become a missionary in China.
However, a bleeding ulcer kept him in his native Porto Maurizio for the four years it took for him to recover and regain his strength.
In 1709, St. Leonard of Port Maurice was sent to Florence where he preached in the city and nearby region.
A great preacher, he was often invited to visit and preach in other areas.
He worked to increase devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, Sacred Heart, Immaculate Conception, and the Stations of the Cross.
One of his accomplishments was to set up the Stations of the Cross in over 500 different places, including the Colosseum.
He was sent as a missionary to Corsica by Pope Benedict XIV in 1744 and restored discipline to the holy orders there, but local politics greatly limited his success in preaching.
He returned to Rome exhausted and died that night on 26 November 1751 at the monastery of Saint Bonaventure in Rome.
He was beatified by Pope Pius VI on 19 June 1796. He was canonized by Pope Pius IX on 29 June 1867.
He was named the patron saint of parish mission preachers.
From St. Leonard of Port Maurice, a Modern Catholic can find an example of great servitude and spiritual stamina.
One may look at how he lived his life with Christian perseverance, always seeking out opportunities to build the Kingdom of God until his death.

Citroën-Lomax 224
The Lomax is a "Kit-Car" type vehicle generally fitted with Citroen 2CV components which began production in 1983 by the Lomax Motor Company of Willoughton, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. In the late 1980s production was transferred to the Mumford Motor Company of Gigg Mill, Nailsworth, Gloucestershire, where it was produced until the 1990s. As well as the UK, Lomax vehicles were also marketed in the Netherlands and in the UK. Germany. Since 2009 the Lomax has been produced again by Cradley Motor Works in St. Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex. The models it sells are the 223 (3 wheels), the 224 (4 wheels) and the Supertourer (also 4 wheels). The original prototype, built in 1982, was designed by Nigel Whall. It had a custom-built four-wheel chassis that was specially built with a shorter wheelbase than the donor vehicle, a Citroen Ami8. The Lomax's design is reminiscent of the legendary Morgan 3-wheeler of the 1930s. The Lomax was comprised of a fiberglass body mounted on an unmodified Citroen 2CV or Dyane chassis. Later, a steel tube chassis was introduced. Lomax vehicles are generally of the Roadster type, without a roof. The early three-wheelers were actually four-wheel models, with the two rear wheels close together, in the style of the Heinkel bubble cars of the 1960s, however that structure was quickly scrapped in favor of a single rear wheel, as that road tax for 3-wheelers in Britain was ostensibly cheaper than for 4-wheelers. Later versions were true tricycles with two wheels at the front and one at the rear. A 4-wheel drive version with an unmodified Citroen 2CV chassis would later appear. The names of the vehicles were; 223 (2 cylinders, 2 seats, 3 wheels), or 224 (2 cylinders, 2 seats, 4 wheels). Some models used engines from the Citroen GS or GSA. The latter were called 424 (4 cylinders, 2 seats, 4 wheels). Lomax vehicles are typically equipped with 29-hp engines, weigh approximately 450 kilograms (990 pounds), have two seats, and have a top speed of 140 km/h (87 mph).
