TOMORROW X TOGETHER Lands First No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart

TOMORROW X TOGETHER lands its first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200albums chart, as The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION debuts atop the tally (dated Feb. 11). The five-song set earned 161,500 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Feb. 2, according to Luminate, largely driven by CD album sales.

The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION is the third top 10-charting effort for the South Korean vocal group, which reached the top 10 previously in 2022 with Minisode 2: Thursday’s Child (No. 4) and in 2021 with The Chaos Chapter: Freeze (No. 5).

The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION halts the chart-topping run for SZA’s SOS, which falls to No. 2 (100,000 equivalent album units; down 10%) after spending its first seven weeks at No. 1.

Also in the top 10 of the new Billboard 200, Sam Smith achieves their fourth top 10-charting effort as Gloria debuts at No. 7, while Lil Yachty notches his third top 10 set with the No. 9 arrival of Let’s Start Here.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new Feb. 11, 2023-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard‘s website on Feb. 7. For all chart news, follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram.

Of The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION’s 161,500 equivalent album units earned, album sales comprise 152,000, SEA units comprise 9,000 (equaling 13.24 on-demand official streams of the set’s five songs) and TEA units comprise 500.

The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION scores the largest sales week for any album since Taylor Swift’s Midnights debuted at No. 1 with 1.14 million copies sold on the Nov. 5, 2022-dated chart. Of The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION’s 152,000 sold, 98% were CD sales (148,500), while 2% were digital album sales (3,500). The set was not available to purchase in any other configuration (such as vinyl or cassette).

The CD configuration of The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION was issued in collectible packages (14 total, including exclusive editions for Barnes & Noble, Target and the Weverse webstore), each with a standard set of internal paper items and branded randomized mystery elements (photo cards, photo books, post cards). CD sales were also enhanced by autographed editions sold via the act’s webstore.

The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION is TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s seventh charting album on the all-genre Billboard 200, though the act has yet to reach the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 songs chart. TOMORROW X TOGETHER is the second act to top the Billboard 200 in the last year without also having previously logged a hit on the Hot 100, following fellow K-pop group Stray Kids, which notched two No. 1 albums in 2022 (ODDINARY and MAXIDENT).

The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION is recorded mostly in the Korean language, with some English lyrics. It is the 17th mostly non-English language album to hit No. 1. In 2022, there were four non-English No. 1s from BTS’ mostly-Korean Proof, Bad Bunny’s all-Spanish Un Verano Sin Ti and Stray Kids’ mostly-Korean ODDINARYand MAXIDENT. Of the 17 mostly non-English No. 1 albums, 10 have been Korean-language projects (six from BTS, two from Stray Kids, one from SuperM and one from TOMORROW X TOGETHER).

Me sorting out SHINee members from oldest to youngest as someone who is just starting to learn the members lol (2021)

Nah you can’t make this up-

I already knew Taemin was the youngest since he’s basically the most well known and the first thing that comes to mind. Also he’s in SuperM for crying out loud. It must mean that he has to be the most popular among those who were at least under 21 years of age.

Onew, I already know what y’all gonna say. I thought he was the maknae or the second maknae. There’s no way in hell this guy is in his 30s. This guy doesn’t even act or look 33 let alone 34. This guy has to be 25 maximum. Also, HE’S THE LEADER???? THIS 25 YEAR OLD LOOKING MAN IS THE LEADER? WHAT???

Jonghyun basically does look his age ngl. I swear this guy looks older than he really is. When I saw pictures of him from 2012 to 2017, he looks like he’s already about to turn 30. Who knows how would he look like today? A sexy dilf that’s all. Am I the only one who thought he was the leader of the group? Ateez soars to No. 1 on Billboard main albums chart

K-pop boy group Ateez's latest album has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard main albums chart, marking the first chart-topper for the group.

Ateez rose atop the Billboard 200 with its second full-length album, "The World Ep. Fin: Will," beating out other popular albums, such as Taylor Swift's "1989 (Taylor's Version)" and Drake's "For All The Dogs," Billboard said in a preview for the latest chart on Sunday (U.S. time).

"It is like a dream. We are so happy," KQ Entertainment quoted the group as saying on the Billboard news.

"It's been only days since we made a comeback, but we've been receiving presents like this every day from ATINY," it said, referring to its fans.

"We will continue to make our own music to return our fans' love and to show you good performances on stage."

The Billboard 200 ranks the most popular albums of the week in the United States, measured by equivalent album units, comprising physical album sales and other digital sales records.

"The World Ep. Fin: Will" earned 152,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Thursday, nearly entirely from traditional album sales, Billboard said.

Of the 152,000, album sales comprise 146,000 with 99 percent of the sum driven by physical album sales, it added.

This marks the Korean group's first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and the seventh No. 1 for a K-pop act, following BTS, SuperM, Stray Kids, BLACKPINK, Tomorrow X Together and NewJeans.

Ateez is also the first K-pop group from a minor K-pop agency to top the chart, not one of the big four agencies — Hybe, SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment and JYP Entertainment.

"The World Ep. Fin: Will" is the fourth top 10-charting album from the act, according to Billboard. The group previously reached No. 2 with "The World Ep. 2: Outlaw" in July.

Released on Dec. 1, the new album consists of 12 songs, including "Crazy Form," "We Know," "Emergency" and "Silver Light."

The lead track, "Crazy Form," is a cheerful dancehall genre song infused with Afrobeat rhythms, showcasing the group's playful charm.

The album debuted at No. 2 on the British Official Albums Top 100, marking the band's highest-charting entry yet. (Yonhap)

According to ‘insider resources’ from within honeyco it was revealed that Jia was never the companies first pick as leader. And that the position was supposed to go to a different trainee, Ari, a former honeyco trainee turned college professor. She was loved and adored since photos and a dance practice video were released of her on honeyco’s official page. And before Mira’s debut it was rumoured that she would take the role of leader. Pre-debut fans and Netizens were heavily disappointed when Jia was released in her place. In their debut era Jia even received death threats and slander for having replaced Ari.

Jia has the most dating rumors surrounding SM entertainment, seeing as she was a former SM trainee, and nearly debuted in SuperM and Aespa. Luckily for her and Honeyco netizens debunked these accusations very quickly, reminding the internet of Jia’s statement in 2021, that she had cut ties with the company and it was rare for her to come into contact with their workers and idols. She lovesick and hurt, this leads to the biggest hole in mira relationship. Jia is in insufferable pain, and every time she sees Nagyung her heart feels heavy, speared by betrayal.

Jia enjoys her personal space, her personal time. So much so that she has all the other members, except Daiyu, blocked. She has since 2021, their debut year. She found their barking useless, and would prefer to just be the leader of the group in front of fans instead of having to constantly be the thing holding the group together. She can't deal with that responsibility. Dealing with other people's problems when she can't even pull herself out of bed most days. No thank you.

Omg, is this another unpopular and controversial NCT take, but... I can't enjoy Haechan's vocals, he can sing, but his tone is too nasal for my liking, I know he contrasts well with other 127 vocalists, but 😭 and sometimes they mess with his voice and add autotune so it makes it worse. I don't really listen to Dreamies, but I definitely think he fits them more, I know both him and Mark love their groups, but be fr, they shouldn't be that overworked.

When I heard Jamal rap in 2 Baddies my heart dropped, glad he got Perfume at least. And now he's playing a murderer?! I enjoy your breakdown of what's going on with SM but we differ in opinion where the music is concerned... well the stuff I've heard. I have not listened to the girl groups at SM much but I love the music everyone else has put out, even 2 baddies. I like like when groups experiment, some songs are going to not vibe with some people and some songs are but one of my favorite things about NCT and the sub units are you never what to expect. 2 Baddies is just one of those mindless fun songs to me, but for me NCT 127 are so versatile that they can make anything work. You got SuperHuman, Highway To Heaven, Favorite, 2 Baddies... they can mold into any concept imo Also I love Ay Yo and WayV's last album, the winter palace songs, etc etc... I think a change wouldn't be an awful thing but idk this seems really shitty. I know business can be cutthroat but these people are working there because of what this man Lee Sooman did to start that company and truthfully start of kpop and I just think he deserves more respect than this. This feels dirty and harsh. Another worry is SuperM. Capital seem to work closely with Lee Sooman considering how tied Mr Lee was to that project... do you think Capital will want to cut ties with a company that staged a coup? This is stressing me out lol Oh no and what if this makes some artists want to leave in solidarity with Lee Sooman??? Is that being really paranoid? Do you think Taemin would stay because I know he's close to Lee Sooman.

Also what do you think about the hoopla about Baekhyun's health and people blaming SM? They think because he was sick for 3 weeks and now eating once a day and working out a lot, that SM is to blame for not stepping in.

Always good to have a difference of opinion 😊. I think the SMCU Winter songs were outstanding tbh. I even liked the surreal painterly concept of the photos. But again, I really don't know who is behind what. Like what of Kwangya? Is that LSM or Chris Lee?

And I agree that on the surface of things, it feels like a really brutal fuck you to a man responsible for a lot of great music and careers. SM made a hell of a lot of mistakes, but they've become so artist-centric, it does seem a shame to throw the baby out with the bath water, so to speak.

Regarding SuperM and their future - Capitol Records wouldn't cut ties unless their contract was up and they no longer were interested. I don't know what the profit sharing model is with Capitol or what Capitol has agreed to do marketing/resource wise (anything?), but honestly there's not anything to worry about here. SuperM's comeback has already been announced and is likely being planned as we write on this infernal website, lol. Artists and groups are not likely to up and walk over this. I would find it very surprising. Getting out of their contracts would be too costly, and we don't even know how they feel about SM 3.0 etc. So, no need to be paranoid!

Re Baekhyun's health... I just am sooo sick of the victimization. If Baek wants to do that, he's gonna do it. Fasting is not bad for your health. As long as his meal is not actual junk food he'll be fine. And I assume he's drinking water and taking supplements. Like, fasting is actually good for your health. Why don't we let Baekhyun, an adult, decide what's best for him?

To me, all that victimisation stuff comes down to infantilizing grown men and also this pervasive, misguided savior complex. I'm sorry but men in Korea do not need to be saved from the evil mistreatment of... choosing their own diet and exercise plan? He's not 14. He's a seasoned idol. Marge from Utah isn't gonna change Korean beauty standards and deeply ingrained cultural values by crying on Twitter that SM are evil. What she will do is cause more racist journalism in the West decrying that kpop's evil dark side must be tamed. Sigh.

Midterm

For my midterm project, I took 9 different items that represent me. The calculator shows that I am a math major. The usb and the sand disk card says that I’m good with technology and I take pictures. The SuperM light stick represents my favorite music groups which are NCT, SHINee, and EXO. There are won bills from the first package I received from Korea. My favorite album/photo books called press your number represents that I idolize Taemin. The cup with the snake bracelet is a memory from the first cupsleeve event I hosted. It also represents my truer side which is more dark and quiet. The Polaroid was suppose to be me and two other celebrities called Beomhan and Jay.

Luckily I had to draft the ask because I was trying to get it under the character limit so I still have part 2 saved. but also it looks like the character limit on asks was removed? Apologies for my incompetence in messages (I’ve been on tumblr for like 10 years lol you think I’d have the hang of it, but maybe that’s why I expect the worst regarding functionality)

Here’s what was in the second half of the message: I just got into Exo a couple years ago! I have a friend who was into SuperM and sent me a few of their videos and basically as soon as I saw Baekhyun that was it for me, and he’s still my bias. I was in covid quarantine for 15 days and binged Exo Next Door and then a bunch of performance videos and fell in love with all the members. I’ve been slowly catching up on ten years of content since then. Monster Dance practice is a GREAT first exo video. Do you have a favorite era/comeback? Do you have a favorite of Suho’s songs? (I still need to listen to Self Portrait!)

What Kpop groups were you listening to before SuperM? I was so lucky to see SuperM as my first ever Kpop concert. And Baekhyun was GLORIOUS live. I am surprised I survived seeing SuperM in person. I LOVE Kai (he is one of my bias wreckers), Taeyong and Ten. SuperM's first promo photos are burned into my memory. An EXCEPTIONAL concept. hahaha

Speaking of concepts......I CANNOT wait to see EXO's upcoming concept and new music. If it has any connection to their Season's Greetings concept I will be DEAD (in the best way possible) lol.

It is hard for me to narrow down a favorite of Suho's music, but perhaps I can give you a few favs off his more recent Grey Suit era. I loved the whole album, but Hurdle, Decanting and Bear Hug were extra wonderful to me. I hope you are able to listen to Self-Portrait. His voice is just so beautiful and the album is a lovely journey of falling in love, losing it, letting it go and appreciating it. Have you seen any of the live sessions mvs? THEY ARE ALL SO FABULOUS. O2 is particularly pretty with the water concept. I don't think we would have been given such a gift of mvs for every song of that album if not for covid. I guess that is one ray of sunshine through the horribleness of the virus. I am sorry you were in covid quarantine. Were you ill or just protecting yourself and others? I hope you weren't sick with it. As far as era looks - Suho during the Lotto Era was also wow. The strawberry hair, the pink shirt and neck ties' outfit for the lotto stages.
