The new rwby short reminded me of one of my favourite aspects of team rwby. Which is that it starts with Weiss and Blake being two traumatised teens with dark backstories who meet Ruby and Yang who are like wow! You guys seem to have a lot of baggage and we'd like to help with that. We're just normal sisters but we'll do our best :D

And then cut to 9 seasons later when Weiss and Blake have conquered their demons, reconnected with their families and are slowly healing meanwhile every small drip of lore we get about Ruby and Yang's family feels like this

Jaune laid on the concrete, exhausted, as Ruby looked down with concern.

"You going to be okay, Jaune?" She asked, and all Jaune could do was give her a thumbs up.

"Go to your team, Ruby. I'll be fine...imma just lay here for a moment...soak in the moonlight, " He told her, giving her his best smile.

Ruby giggled, the concern still their but if Jaune said he was okay, then she believed him. Off she went to go reunite with her team and speak with Blake about what happened.

Jaune watched her leave as he sighed as the pain from getting throttled began to fade away.

'Bleep'

Jaune pulled out his scroll.

'Sherbert': Sorry for all that, Kid. Thanks for the heads up, I owe you one.

Jaune rolled his eyes.

Jaune: Yeah, sure, I'll hold you to it. How's the Gremlin?

Sherbet: Upset, you know she detest hurting you.

Jaune: I know, tell her I love her and that we'll go on a nice date when all this is over.

Sherbert: Tell her yourself, I am no cupid.

Jaune: You suck.

Sherbet: Love you too, get some rest, school in the morning, Do-Gooder.

Jaune sighed and put his scroll back in his pocket before getting up, winicng at the pain he felt, Jaune looked over to Team RWBY, happy to see things getting resolved, it made him feel good.

"Jaune Arc!" eyes widening as their stamping towards him with hell on her heels was his partner Pyrrha, accompanied by Nora and Ren.

Oh boy, he did not like the look in those green eyes.

Maybe lying to your partner and saying you're going to the library to study only for you to end up on local news television ensuring your best friend, and love of your life make a clean get away.. wasn't really the smartest thing to do, huh Jaune?

Something I feel a number of people have surprisingly still not gotten the memo on is that one of RWBY’s core ideas and recurring thematic plots is that of our four heroines repairing and reconciling their broken and dysfunctional families.

We saw it in the Anima arc with Blake reconciling with her estranged parents and repairing their legacy with the White Fang.

We saw it in the Atlas arc with Weiss reconciling and helping to repair and heal her own dysfunctional family.

Which means we are definitely going to see Ruby and Yang (with help from their emotional support partners/girlfriends) work to reconcile and repair what is by far the MOST dysfunctional, broken family in the show: Team STRQ.

ALL of Team STRQ. Because RWBY is NOT the kind of show to half-ass this and go ‘oh, you can’t save them all’. No, Ruby and Yang are getting their ENTIRE family back together.

Which means for one, Summer is definitely NOT dead, and WILL be returning.

And yes, this means RAVEN too.

So as it turns out, Raven is NOT in fact the irredeemable bad-bad-mom-who-is-very-bad, and WILL in fact be a major part of the show going forward and WILL be receiving focus and a redemption arc and WILL be reconciling with Yang and Ruby and reuniting with the rest of her team to be actually happy the actually good mom she always believed she couldn’t be.

And if you’ve got a problem with that and think Raven is an irredeemable bad-bad-mom-who-is-very-bad and doesn’t ‘deserve’ to get reconciliation with Yang and Ruby?

Well, tough tiddlywinks. That’s not the kind of show RWBY is. Kinda figured you’d have caught on to that by this point.

RWBY: Once upon a time two troubled runaway princesses met two humble down to earth farm girls and they both fell in love.

RWBY: and over the course of their time together they learned what really mattered to them, who they wanted to be, and finally went back to successfully confront the demons that had made them run away in the first place. They conquered their fears and saved both their original family and the found family that had saved them.

RWBY: and they all lived happily ever-SIKE the farm girls family are all ex black ops and both their moms and their dad were in a polyamorous relationship together and all of them plus their uncle were somehow involved in this universe's 9/11 level events, secrets and missions from the shady shadow government fighting the ultimate evil which knows their mom by name.

RWBY:... Also the youngest farm girl is suicidal from trying to live up to her dead mother's legacy and and being a child soldier since she was 15. The team have to watch her attempt to kill herself essentially via poison.

RWBY: and they STILL don't know half the secrets their family has been hiding from them. Good thing they have those much more emotionally stable princesses as partners to lean on, huh?

Since chapter one people keep saying that WBY don’t care about Ruby and I’m so confused where that thinking is coming from.

Yang continues to check in with Ruby who never answers her.

Weiss acknowledges how hard it must be to hear about Penny, for Ruby to turn around and walk away.

Blake tries to redirect Ruby’s thoughts about home to just getting out of Ever After, but the loss of Curious Cat distracts them all.

They are all concerned and are trying not to push Ruby too hard because she’s clearly not in a place to outright confront things right now given her reaction in chapter one. There’s really not much ANY of them can do when Ruby won’t talk to them. They all love Ruby, but Ruby has to realize the weight of the world isn’t on her shoulders alone and her team is there for her, even when she “fails”.
