what's funny about my journalism school is that they barely train us at all and then they let us out into the world expecting us to be both students, who attend lectures and write essays, and full blown journalists. basically the two busiest category of people. my dudes there are only 24 hours in a day.

WIBTA for not considering my "son", my son?

I (M, 33) used to be in a relationship with N (F, 37) - I'm a… confirmed bachelor, so to speak, and her parents were angry she wasn't married yet, so we covered for each other. Our partnership has always been a bit tumultuous, we had our fights, but we were quite good friends.

About twelve years into our relationship, she revealed to me she wanted a kid. We never really discussed having kids before. I told her I don't think I could be a good father - I am autistic, anxious, and overall a very forgetful person who gets easily overwhelmed. She told me that if we didn't adopt a child, she would leave me and tell my work colleagues about my secret. That would out a wrench in... well, pretty much everything; I would have had to leave my dream job, as I would no longer be safe around my colleagues, and my reputation would be ruined. So - in hindsight, probably against my better judgement - we adopted a child. Let's call him S.

It was hellish having an infant in the house for me, and my performance at work decreased. That's all kinda irrelevant, though, because the bombs dropped before S was even a year old.

To put a really long story short, we were put in this… cyrogenic facility right after the bombs dropped. Some odd 200 years later, he was kidnapped. N was killed in the process.

I'm searching for S (probably around 10), since I'm still kind of responsible for him, and I don't want anything bad to happen to the boy - I mean, the world's pretty dangerous now, especially for a little kid - ...but he isn't my son. Not in my mind, at least. He's just my friend's kid. I've explained this to a few people, and while some understood, others called me selfish for it.

And... I'm worried I am selfish, and a horrible person. I mean, he is technocally my son, like… legally, right? I guess legal documents aren't binding in a nuclear apocalypse, but uh... still. And who's even going to take care of the kid once we rescue him, anyways? I would be a pretty awful person if I gave him away to some orphanage in a world like this, wouldn't I?

So, well... AITA?

I got the Doc action figure on Ebay btw!!! around $50 AUD (shipping included) which I think was a very good price! It's missing a few claws(?) on the arms but I'm planning on fixing that somehow (and someday LOL)

I don't usually like Funkos, BUT THIS ONE HAS A WOBBLY HEAD!!!!!

Lego Doc was actually the first thing in my collection, I couldn't find anything Doc related in my country in South America, just this Lego. I still think he's SO cute tho! And it's being holded by a Spidey action figure on my desk I won in a game in Technocity here in Sydney ^^
