fashion |  DES CHEVEUX ET DES POILS at MAD Paris
Following the success of the exhibitions La mécanique des dessous (2013), Tenue correcte exigée ! (2017) and Marche et démarche (2019), the Musée des Arts Décoratifs continues its exploration of the relationship between the body and fashion with an exhibition on hair styles and body hair grooming. Des cheveux et des poils (Hair & Hairs) exhibition, which runs from April 5 to September 17, 2023, demonstrates how hairstyles and the grooming of human hair have contributed to the construction of appearances for centuries. Hair is an essential aspect of one’s identity and has often been used as a means of expressing our adherence to a fashion, a conviction, or a protest while invoking much deeper meanings such as femininity, virility, and negligence, to name just a few.
The exhibition explores through 600 works, from the 15th century to nowadays, the themes inherent in the history of hairstyles, but also the questions related to facial and bodily hair. The trades and skills of yesterday and today are highlighted with their iconic figures: Léonard Autier (favorite hairdresser of Marie- Antoinette), Monsieur Antoine, the Carita sisters, Alexandre de Paris, and more recently studio hairdressers. Great names in contemporary fashion such as Alexander McQueen, Martin Margiela, or Josephus Thimister are present with their spectacular creations made from this unique material that is hair.
The exhibition is presented in the Christine & Stephen A. Schwarzman’s fashion galleries of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. The scenography will be created by David Lebreton of the Designers Unit agency.
In an atmosphere where shades of blond, brown and red evoke the main hair colors, the course, divided into five themes, questions what makes hair, in Greek- Roman and Judeo-Christian cultures, an attribute of the animal and wildness and explains why hair had to be constantly tamed to remove the woman or man from the beast.
FASHION AND EXTRAVAGANCE
The first part of the exhibition opens with the study of the evolution of feminine hairstyles, a real social indicator and marker of identity. In the Middle Ages, obeying the command of Saint Paul, the wearing of the veil imposes itself on women until the 15th century. Gradually, they abandon it in favor of extravagant hairstyles that are constantly renewed. In the 17th century, the hairstyle “to the Hurluberlu” (dear to Madame de Sévigné) and “to the Fontange” (after the name of Louis XIV’s mistress) are emblematic of real fashion phenomena.
Around 1770, the high hairstyles known as Poufs are undoubtedly the most extraordinary of Western hair modes. Finally, in the 19th century, women’s hairstyles − whether inspired by ancient Greece, or known as “the giraffe,” in curls or “the Pompadour” − are just as convoluted.
TO BEARD OR NOT TO BEARD
After the hairless faces of the Middle Ages, a turning point occurred around 1520 with the appearance of the beard, symbol of courage and strength. In the early 16th century, the three great Western monarchs: Francis I, Henry VIII, and Charles V were young and wore beards, which were then associated with the virile and warrior spirit. From the 1630s until the end of the 18th century, the hairless face and the wig were the hallmarks of courtiers. Facial hair did not reappear until the early 19th century with the mustache, sideburns, and beard: this century was by far the hairiest in the history of men’s fashion. A multitude of small objects used (mustache wax, brushes, curling irons, wax, etc.) testify to this enthusiasm for mustaches and beards.
During the 20th century, the rhythm of bearded, mustached, and smooth faces continued, until the return of the beard among Hipsters in the late 1990s. The maintenance of hairiness among these young urbanites has given rise to the profession of barber, which had disappeared since the 1950s. Today, the thick beards tend to give way to the mustache that had deserted faces since the 1970s.
The choice of keeping, eliminating, hiding, or displaying hair on other parts of the body is also a subject of history that the exhibition addresses through the representation of nude bodies in visual arts and written testimonials. Hairiness is rare, or even absent from ancient painting. The hairless body is synonymous with the antique and idealized body, while the hairy body is associated with virility, or even triviality. Only enthusiasts of virile sports such as boxing and rugby, as well as erotic illustrations or medical engravings, show individuals covered in hair.
Around 1910-1920, when women’s bodies were exposed, advertisements in magazines touted the benefits of hair removal creams and more efficient razors to eliminate them.
In 1972, actor Burt Reynolds posed naked, hairy body for Cosmopolitan magazine, but fifty years later, an abundance of hair is no longer in fashion. Since 2001, sportsmen being photographed naked for calendars like Les dieux du stade (The Gods of the Stadium) have had rigorously controlled hairiness.
BETWEEN TRUE AND FALSE
Hair styling is an intimate act. Moreover, a well-born lady could not show herself in public with her hair down. A painting by Franz-Xaver Winterhalter, dated 1864, depicting Empress Sissi in a robe and with her hair untied, was strictly reserved for Franz Joseph’s private cabinet. Louis XIV, who became bald at a very young age, adopted the so-called “bright hair” wig, which he then imposed on the court.
In the 20th century, Andy Warhol had the same misfortune: the wig he wore to hide his baldness became an icon of the artist. Nowadays, hairpieces and wigs are used in high fashion, during fashion shows or, of course, to compensate for hair loss.
The natural hair colors and their symbolism are studied along with what they convey. Blonde is said to be the color of women and childhood. Red hair is attributed to sultry women, witches and some famous stage women. As for black hair, it would betray the temperament of brown and brunettes. From the experimental colorations of the 19th century to the more certain dyes from the 1920s: artificial colors are not forgotten. The work of the hairdresser Alexis Ferrer who makes digital prints on real hair is also presented.
TRADES AND SKILLS
The exhibition reveals the different hair professions: barbers, barber-surgeons, hair stylists, wigmakers, ladies’ hairdressers, etc., through archival documents and a host of small objects: signs, tools, various products, and the astonishing perming machines and dryers of the 1920s.
In 1945, the creation of haute coiffure elevated the profession to the rank of an artistic discipline and a French savoir-faire. 20th century hairdressing is marked by Guillaume, Antoine, Rosy and Maria Carita, Alexandre de Paris styling princesses and celebrities. Nowadays, great hairstyling is mainly expressed during the fashion shows of prestigious fashion houses. Sam McKnight, Nicolas Jurnjack and Charlie Le Mindu were invited to the exhibition to create extraordinary hairstyles for top models and show business personalities.
A HAIRY CENTURY
Finally, a special focus will allow us to evoke the iconic hairstyles of the 20th and 21st centuries: the 1900 chignon, the 1920s garçonne haircut, the 1930s permed and notched hair, the 1960s pixie and sauerkraut, the 1970s long hair, the 1980s voluminous hairstyles, the 1990s gradations and blond streaks, not to mention afro-textured hair.
The arrangement of hair in a particular form can reveal the belonging to a group and manifest a political and cultural expression in opposition to society and the established order. More ideological than aesthetic, the Iroquois crest of the punks, the neglected hair of the grunges or the shaved heads of the skinheads are strong moments of hair creativities.
Wearing the hair of another, known or unknown, has an eerie dimension, and this superstition seems well-entrenched. Despite these apprehensions, some creators choose to transcend this familiar material into fashion objects. This is the case of contemporary designers such as Martin Margiela, Josephus Thimister and Jeanne Vicerial. The question of identity, treated lightly or more deeply, is often at the heart of the reasoning, whether the hair is real or fake.
The Musée des Arts Décoratifs has benefited from exceptional loans from the Château de Versailles, the Musée des Beaux-Arts d’Orléans, the Musée du Louvre and the Musée d’Orsay. till 17 sept. 2023 madparis.fr Andrei S.

FALSE: Televised Movie Special for a FINAL 3rd Season of Amphibia will not happen in mid-June 2022
FROG VALLEY, AMPHIBIA ISLAND REGION -- Almost a month after the 3rd and Final Season ended in mid-May this year in 2022, a single animated Twitter insider (Debbie) from Malaysia (not an actual real name) releasing a few of the still images, fresh and direct from the studio of Disney Television Animation (DTVA), which is not to be released anywhere to the public.
Debbie spreads a tweet like wildfires Thursday morning (June 2nd, 2022 -- Pacific local time) that the Animation team have wrapped up for the upcoming final touches in post-production, even after the said series ended. A 42-minute televised movie special, in celebration of its 3rd anniversary of Amphibia will air this year by June 18th starting at 8am (Eastern local time).
Additionally, a British singer songwriter named Edward Christopher Sheeran will feature as a guest star who was voiced per male pastor in a historic 3-way marriage event of SashAnnArcy (Sasha Waybright, Anne Savisa Boonchuy & Marcy Wu) before departing all the way back to Los Angeles, California, United States of America (U.S.A.). The new voice of Sprig Plantar was undetermined as she notes a source to our news team.
One unofficial synopsis obtained exclusively with a drafted movie special on television: *Back to Amphibia -- "Former students of Saint James Middle School (SJMS) accidentally activated a source which teleports them to the Amphibia Island Region while revisiting a place where it all once started".
The movie special claims for a Disney Channel cartoon show leads to an extensive sequel of Episode 1 back in mid-June 2019, several months before the Coronavirus Disease-19 (CoViD-19) pandemic worldwide.
Here at OneNETnews, we furtherly debunk the said Twitter insider for a televised movie special, in partnership with Tegna Inc. and WPMT-TV's FOX 43: Central Pennsylvania.
Our sources gathered the following: *A deleted tweet of one Show Creator (Dana Terrace). *The Cable Forum, as first obtained from a Forum Administrator named KyL416 (which is matched and verified with TVPassport listings in America's Eastern schedule). and *A Question and Answer Panel, moderated from a Los Angeles YouTuber via ZOOM named DeepCut who mainly owns Cartoon Universe.
Tumblr media
The official schedules of Disney Channel as Kyl416 reported, it airs most of the show reruns until a new episode showned with "The Ghost and Molly McGee" at 9:30am (Eastern local time) by June 18th.
Tumblr media
While on June 4th this weekend as according thru TVPassport and a deleted tweet with 'The Owl House' show creator (Dana Terrace), the episode marathon focuses a lesbian couple between Luz Noceda and Amity Blight (known as LuMity for short).
Tumblr media
And, a YouTuber in Los Angeles named DeepCut, who moderate a panel of Question and Answer on Cartoon Universe meets one show creator (Matt Braly) and the casts of Amphibia.
Speaking to Braly via Cartoon Universe, the movie special is less likely and to be discussed at DTVA's production point: "I think about a movie a lot, and I think about the kinds of things that I would want to see and sort of like where the story is and what we have done. And I'll just tell you right now, the movie would be time traveled, the reason being that I want to see Leif Plantar and Barrel in her act with our modern day characters. I feel like, it would be the best way to kind of create a satisfying new story, even though we have this time skip, something that is felt satisfying conclusive. It will be a great way to give chaos to something you didn't even know you wanted it".
He adds during a Zoom meeting panel, he was focusing behind the scenes for its origins of the Plantars before officiating with a presumptive presidential captain of Newtopia (Andrias Leviathan): "The Plantars meeting their first descendants or Barrel getting more screen time. That stuff excites me, so if that's something you wanted to see... I'll never say, never I think to make a noise and that's interesting. It can happen. Movies are different than special, because it's not for continuation of these 3 seasons' arc. So that would be kind of the perfect way to see these characters again on this show".
So in conclusion, NO. The movie special in sequel to Amphibia's extensive first episode will not eventually aired on June 18th to Disney Channel in America. Instead, 'The Ghost and Molly McGee' regularly airs smoothly with a new weekly episodes on Saturday morning (Pacific local time).
The production team and guards will soon beefing up the security in advance, ensuring all the unauthorized persons remain off-limits for now, due to lack of informative media and trusts.
The Malaysia police turned into custody between the infringement and false information on its said movie special of Amphibia. DTVA will receive personally a monetary reward and certification per concerned if Debbie pleads guilty in Malaysian court and sentenced to 6-9yrs. in prison.
It is quite too soon to make it happen for a movie special of Amphibia by debunking all of this situation for its production company to respect and support the animated officials of DTVA.

Mira Park Knows What We Dream About ( Hyperallergic )
John Yau
In her art, Park is in touch with our collective anxieties about a future that seems to darken with each passing day.
SEOUL, South Korea — After spending a few minutes with the work in the exhibition Mira Park: Interlude at Art Space Boan 2 (August 27–September 18, 2022), I felt like Alice in Wonderland. Having wandered into a non-commercial gallery space, which I later learned is part of Boan1942 — a guesthouse, art gallery, café, and bookstore rolled into one — I became engrossed by the different liminal spaces that Park evoked in black and white paintings as large as 6 by 8 feet, ink drawings approximately 12 by 12 inches, sculptures of animal and human anatomy, such as tentacles partially buried in sand, and black and white animations, including one projected on a wall. Later, when I looked at Park’s CV, I saw that she had titled a 2015 exhibition The Rabbit Hole (at Booknomad a. space), which both confirmed my initial impressions and made me curious about alternative spaces in Korea.
In a conversation with the show’s curator, Jeonguk Choi, I learned that Art Space Boan 2 hosts exhibitions, but does not represent artists. This and a conversation with the young artist Eun Sol Kim, who is Minouk Lim’s studio assistant, suggested that there is a thriving alternative, non-commercial art scene in Korea that is very different than the pipeline of MFA to commercial gallery situation that exists in parts of the United States. Both Park and Kim, who are not represented by commercial galleries, show regularly in alternative spaces, which is almost unheard of in the United States.
Park’s paintings are essentially large drawings done in black acrylic on a white ground. Precise lines and dark areas made by a dry brush convey shading, volume, and different types of rough surfaces. Park depicts a stage-like setting populated by body parts (hearts, hands, legs), covered in sheets or masked, as well as oddly dressed individuals of different ages, creatures such as deer and swans, observers looking through telescopes or taking photographs, and numerous participants, many of whom are engaged in inexplicable activities: a barefoot young woman dragging a boulder; a uniformed figure sweeping up what appear to be paper stars. The architectural setting of each scene is different, as if to say that you cannot step into the same dream twice.
I thought of the observers in the paintings as surrogate viewers and the individuals whose faces are unseen as the limits of our curiosity. How much do we want to see, in a visionary sense, and how much of the world’s commonplace reality can we actually look at without turning away? Fairy tale tropes and the disturbing sights of everyday commingle.
We have fallen down a rabbit hole into a world that we witness but cannot explain. The different activities occurring throughout a painting do not coalesce into an overarching narrative. Rather, Park uses her settings to seamlessly connect scenes, creatures, and characters inspired by fairy tales and writers such as Charles Perrault, the Brothers Grimm, Marie-Catherine d’Aulnoy (who coined the term “fairy tales”), and many others not known in the West, along with Surrealist artists (for instance, René Magritte), early Renaissance painters such as Pisanello and his masterpiece “The Vision of Saint Eustace” (1438-1442), movies and television — artworks and mediums that transport the viewer to another domain. The presence of modern devices in Park’s work helps situate her scenes in our contemporary world.
The sinister and miraculous occur simultaneously in Park’s fully realized, imagined worlds. In the drawing animation “Interlude” (2022), a 4-minute 20-second video is projected on one gallery wall above “Cut Off Senses,” a sculptural installation consisting of identifiable and unidentifiable ceramic body parts partially buried in a bed of sand. Are these body parts remnants of an unknown catastrophe? How does this work link with the video playing above it? At the beginning of “Interlude,” which has an immersive soundtrack by the composer/sound artist Hyemin Seo,  a curtain rises on a field of black lines, which is followed by a barren landscape littered with broken televisions, large blinking eyes embedded in the ground, and candles with swaying flames. The scene zeroes in on the television in the center of this landscape, its screen projecting moving black lines, signaling it is on the fritz. Soon its screen fills the entire view and transforms into a watery world in which the faces of two women float, eyes closed. Ducks and lily pads surround the faces. Eventually everything drifts out of the frame, leaving only the water, which slowly fills with different-sized rocks. Snakes enter from the edges, linger briefly, and then leave. These and the episodes that follow seem linked, but not necessarily logical nor decipherable.
The rising curtain and television we enter suggest thresholds we have crossed. Have we left reality or are we entering a heightened version of it? What is this other world that greets us? Park’s work raises questions the viewer is unable to answer. Is the watery world meant to be the unconscious, the place of dreaming? Or is it evidence of a deluge that has flooded the world? Do the two dreaming women signify a desire to break the patriarchal constraints governing the world’s various societies? Asking these and other questions pulls us deeper and deeper into the artist’s world without offering an answer or key. This is what I found so powerful and convincing about the work. Park is in touch with our collective anxieties about a future that seems to darken with each passing day.

Join us for a virtual tour of Luce Visible Storage, one of the gems of the Luce Center for American Art! While only a fraction of the Brooklyn Museum’s holdings are on view in the galleries, Luce Visible Storage gives open access to some 2,000 works in storage for visitors, scholars, and students to view and research. Let’s take a look at some of the collections.
Created by Jane Dini, Andrew W. Mellon Senior Curator, American Art, Catherine Futter, Senior Curator, Decorative Arts, Margarita Karasoulas, Assistant Curator, American Art, Nancy Rosoff, Andrew W. Mellon Senior Curator, Arts of the Americas, and Elizabeth St. George, Assistant Curator, Decorative Arts.
Tumblr media
Gaston Lachaise’s monumental Standing Woman is among one of the larger-than-life-size sculptures visitors encounter in Luce Visible Storage.
The pronounced contrapposto of the figure’s pose evokes classical traditions, while the robust proportions and sensuous treatment of the female form recall Paleolithic fertility figures. This sculpture is a pictorial homage to the artist’s model and muse (and later wife) Isabel Nagel, who inspired numerous other works.
Tumblr media
The Brooklyn Museum’s collection is particularly strong in direct carving, where sculptors carved directly on the chosen material, whether wood or stone, and advocated “truth to materials.” Many of these modernist artists were recent immigrants to the United States.
Tumblr media
The French-born sculptor Robert Laurent studied under the painter Hamilton Easter Field in Brooklyn Heights. Carved out of alabaster and weighing nearly two hundred pounds, Robert Laurent’s The Bather depicts an idealized, nude female figure in a dynamic pose, her finely carved hair cascading over her body. Laurent preferred working with this material, noting that “…the beauty of alabaster is its transparency. This is what gives it life and vibration.”
Tumblr media
Upon moving to New York City in 1914, Polish-born sculptor Elie Nadelman earned acclaim for his early idealized and classical heads such as La Mysterieuse. Here, rhythmic, curvilinear shapes imbue the sculpture with a sense of dynamism. As Nadelman once acknowledged, “I employ no other line than the curve.”
Tumblr media
A protégé of French sculptor Auguste Rodin, Malvina Hoffmann was one of the foremost women artists of the twentieth century. Inspired by her travels in North Africa in the late 1920s, Martinique Woman (1928) anticipates Hoffmann’s later work on The Races of Mankind for the Field Museum. Although the work represents a racial type, its modernized realism signals a deliberate break with earlier treatments of African subjects ranging from caricature to romanticism.
Tumblr media
This screen features the museum’s important collection of early twentieth century modernism, including, in the bottom-right corner, Marsden Hartley's Handsome Drinks from 1915.
Tumblr media
Responding to the 1915 downing of the RMS Lusitania (or LUS) by a German U-boat off the coast of Ireland, Hartley implores the countries united in response—the United States represented as a Manhattan cocktail flanked by France as a glass of absinthe and the United Kingdom as a cup of tea, to “Forgive (or LOGH in Irish) the blockhead,” or boche an offensive term for a German soldier. The flaming chalice underscores this plea for unity and peace a year before the United States officially entered into the First World War.
Tumblr media
In addition to sculpture and painting, decorative arts also abound in Luce Visible Storage.
Tumblr media
The museum has a large collection of objects made by Tiffany Studios (formerly in Corona, Queens) including this lamp with delicately cut shades of glass in green, pink, and purple. Each Tiffany lamp has an original composition, many designed by women.
Tumblr media
If it seems like the museum has a lot of chairs, it does. The Museum has an exceptional collection of American chairs from the 1700s to today. The form is an excellent way for designers to express themselves with different styles, materials, and forms.
Tumblr media
Folding chairs are not a new invention. During the 1860s and 1870s, George Hunzinger, of Brooklyn and Manhattan, manufactured this folding chair that seems to combine function with upholstered comfort.
Tumblr media
This charming pair of singing Zacatecas ceramic figures from Jalisco, West Mexico may represent a married couple or founders of an ancestral lineage. Placed in tombs to accompany the dead, these animated sculptures reveal aspects of ancient Mexican life over 1,800 years ago. The man’s fashionable antennae-like hairstyle was probably achieved by wrapping hair around an interior support, and the painted designs on their bodies may represent tattooing.
Tumblr media
Amid the display of Native American pottery, storage boxes, and eating utensils, this elk-horn spoon dating from the late 19th century was carved and used by Yurok men to eat an acorn-mush cereal. Today, the Yurok are the largest tribe in California with over 5,000 enrolled members.
Tumblr media
This polychrome, wooden statue of Saint Joseph dates from the 19th century and reportedly comes from the church in Zia Pueblo in New Mexico, where it was likely displayed on a sanctuary table. The unidentified artist was likely Native American or of Mexican-Hispanic heritage. Present-day New Mexico was the northernmost frontier of the Spanish Colonial Empire, until Mexico gained independence from Spain in 1821. Its remoteness encouraged the development of religious folk images that differed greatly from their European-inspired counterparts such as the Virgin displayed nearby.
Tumblr media
This exquisitely inlaid box from present-day Peru or Bolivia, was likely used to store coca leaves. During the 18th century, such luxury items were prominently displayed in affluent Spanish American homes to underscore the owner’s wealth and social status. Coca-leaf teas were, and continue to be popular as a mild stimulant.

G1 Climax 30 Night 3 - 9/23/2020; RIP Road Warrior Animal (9/12/1960 - 9/23/2020); Finlay v. Romero in ROH Pure Tournament; Fredericks on Last Night’s Prime Time Live
Tumblr media
G1 Climax 30 resumed today, with A Block matches live from Hokkaido. You can see it now on NJPWWorld.
- 9/23/2020, Hokkaido Prefectural Sports Center Hokkai Kitayell
Gabriel Kidd d. Yuya Uemura (Double-Arm Suplex, 7:21)
G1 Climax 30 A Block: Jeff Cobb [FREE] d. Shingo Takagi [Los Ingobernables] (Tour Of The Islands, 11:44)
G1 Climax 30 A Block: Kazuchika Okada [CHAOS] d. Yujiro Takahashi [Bullet Club] (Money Clip, 12:01)
G1 Climax 30 A Block: Taichi [SZKG] d. Minoru Suzuki [SZKG] (Black Mephisto, 12:11)
G1 Climax 30 A Block: Will Ospreay [CHAOS] d. Tomohiro Ishii [CHAOS] (Stormbreaker, 18:20)
G1 Climax 30 A Block: Jay White [Bullet Club] d. Kota Ibushi (Blade Runner, 20:28)
Switchblade is now 2-0 against Kota Ibushi since Ibushi bested him at the G1 Climax 29 Final last year. Naturally, he declared he will win G1. And he might! Ospreay will not win G1, but is on a streak anyway, because NJPW are high on him and don’t care if he got a woman blackballed from the industry.
Taichi had a very good homecoming to Hokkaido for once, getting the win over his Boss. NJPW are now calling Okada’s Cobra Clutch the “Money Clip.” And still trying to make it a Thing. Shingo is 0-2 so far, but that means he’ll be assured a good late run. Gabriel Kidd gets his first ever singles win in NJPW!
Current A Block standings:
Ospreay: 4pts (2W 0D 0L) Taichi: 4pts (2W 0D 0L) White: 4pts (2W 0D 0L) Cobb: 2pts (1W 0D 1L) Ibushi: 2pts (1W 0D 1L) Okada: 2pts (1W 0D 1L) Suzuki: 2pts (1W 0D 1L) Ishii: 0pts (0W 0D 2L) Takagi: 0pts (0W 0D 2L) Yujiro: 0pts (0W 0D 2L)

(L-R: Road Warrior Hawk [Michael Hegstrand], Road Warrior Animal [Joseph Laurinaitis], Power Warrior [Kensuke Sasaki])
Just as I was getting ready to start writing this post, it was reported that Road Warrior Animal (Joseph Laurinaitis) had passed away at the age of 60. The Road Warriors are, of course, one of the most famous and well-regarded tag teams of all time in the wrestling business, and Japan were a huge part of their stomping grounds, although in terms of number of matches, they were more known in All Japan Pro Wrestling than NJPW. The majority of Animal’s matches in NJPW came in 1996, when the Road Warriors were still with WCW, and some of those were in tandem with Kensuke Sasaki in his Power Warrior persona (long story). Nevertheless, the Road Warriors were huge in Japan, working in AJPW, NJPW, Tenryu’s WAR promotion, and even Riki Choshu’s ill-fated Fighting of World Japan Pro Wrestling company in 2003. (Road Warrior Hawk, Michael Hegstrand, would die later in 2003.) Animal even wrestled a select number of matches in Battlarts in 1998 and 2000.
Animal’s brother John is pretty well-known in the wrestling biz, having not only been an executive, both on-screen and off-, for WWE, but also as Johnny Ace, most notably in AJPW, where at one time he had a very well-regarded tag team with Kenta Kobashi, among others. His son James played college football at Ohio State University, as well as an 8-year NFL career, mostly at the then-St. Louis Rams, before retiring after a season at the New Orleans Saints in 2017.
Regardless, there’s nothing I can write that will adequately say what Animal, and the Road Warriors, meant to pro wrestling. Our thoughts and condolences to his loved ones and close friends.
Tumblr media
While left out of G1 Climax selection yet again, David Finlay Jr. is keeping himself busy, competing in Ring of Honor’s Pure Tournament. This is the revival of ROH’s former Pure Championship, which was unified and abandoned with the ROH World Title back in 2008 in a classic (but ultimately costly, for the competitors involved) match between Brian Danielson v. Nigel McGuinness.
Finlay’s opponent for this round was Rocky Romero, who he would defeat. This match is on the current episode of ROH TV, but I’m not even sure which Sinclair Broadcasting sub-network it’s on nowadays (Comet? Charge!? It’s not on YouTube in full). We’ll see how far he gets in this. I can’t imagine he’s happy working ROH again tho.
In other news, the LA Dojo’s Karl Fredericks appeared last night on the United Wrestling Network’s iPPV event Prime Time Live #2, shown on FITE TV for $7.99. This concept is through United Wrestling Network, Billy Corgan’s National Wrestling Alliance and Thunder Studios, being run out of Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, a weekly PPV concept. I hesitate to remind that this is how TNA/Impact started.
Fredericks defeated Slice Boogie in the semi-main event of the show. Danny Limelight, late of NJPW Strong, was also on this show, losing to Kevin Martenson. The main event saw Thunder Rosa retain the NWA Women’s Championship against Priscilla Kelly, which is good as it maintains the storyline Rosa is having in AEW right now.
Tomorrow’s show also comes from Hokkaido, and features the second group of B Block matches, including one that may have some implications down the line depending on how the results go.
- 9/24/2020, Hokkaido Prefectural Sports Center Hokkai Kitayell

G1 Climax 30 B Block: Juice Robinson v. KENTA [Bullet Club]
G1 Climax 30 B Block: YOSHI-HASHI [CHAOS] v. EVIL [Bullet Club]
