And neither of them want anyone getting in the way of those things, and Syrus especially is genuinely afraid of that too, only making me all the happier when they find genuine friends in each other and reconcile because I love them so much when they're nice to each other 😭

Hassleberry's literally the kindest, sweetest guy at heart and just a damn good kid I couldn't be happier that he's the canonically pure of heart one. Anyone would be lucky to have him but nobody deserves him I stg ✋😔

Stormshipping Headcanon: Chazz calls Atticus "Atti" while Atticus calls Chazz "ChaCha".

I accept this as canon hehehe :3

I bet Chazz picked Atty up from Alexis since that's her nickname for him, but I imagine she gave Chazz permission to use it too eventually because he's ass at coming up with nicknames and as his future sister-in-law, she's like "hey, if you want to, you can use my nickname for him." And it's kinda a big deal because nobody is allowed to call him Atty except her. But she is their number 1 supporter, 100% on board with their relationship and come on, they're her favorite people! Her boys! Her brothers! I don't call Alexis the Stormshipping Chaperone for nothing!

And we know Atticus canonically calls Chazz "Chazzy" which I love and I think it's adorable and I often find myself calling them both Atty and Chazzy more often than not in conversation lol. But Atticus being Atticus, I think he has like a billion little nicknames and pet names for him so I could totally see him calling him that sometimes 🤭

headcanon that came out of nowhere ; i think atticus is a Weird Cuddler. not in the sense that he’s weird about the touching but that he always always ALWAYS has to hear someone’s heartbeat when they’re laying together.

it started with alexis when they were kids, because he was always told that a big brother needs to be there for his little sister. so he was always there to watch her in the night when she would cry or have a nightmare, and he’d always know when she was panicking or not because of her heart rate. and all he would think in the darkness would be “you have to protect it. you have to keep her heart beating this strong.”

it was horrible when he was possessed. there was nobody’s heartbeat but his own to listen to. ‘his’ own.

when he’s finally back at school, he lays in the dark after a nightmare. he can’t get up, that feeling of a choking presence chaining him down into the bed. but into the sheets he taps, that familiar ba-dump, ba-dump of alexis’ heart.

No because I completely agree and I think this is entirely in line with his character.

I was just watching episode 173 the other day just kinda because I felt like it and I was I suppose you could say, studying, as I am constantly analyzing him, Chazz, and Alexis. And I came across a certain moment that confirmed that I write Atticus extremely accurately, but is also and more importantly, is incredibly telling about him as a character and a person.

So after everyone is lost to Darkness and Atticus is the only one left on the island stripped of his memories of anyone and everyone, he breaks down and says this:

Atticus, in his mind and in his heart, exists entirely for the sake of others. His purpose is to be there to guide and protect and care for others and to be needed. Every single thing we ever see him do is in the interest of someone else. Usually Chazz or Alexis, but a few others as well throughout the show. He never does anything for himself, or thinks about himself first. I agree, while he was alone in Darkness while he was possessed, he couldn’t be comforted by his own heart beat. If anything, it would only make things worse because he can't stand being alone and not having anyone to care for and protect. He yearns for connection with people, especially the people he cares for the most, and being cut off from them for so long would be destructive to him.

And to the point of him being a snuggler cuddler, I also agree! I think Atticus is a very tactile, tangible person. Both by way of physical touch, and having tangible representations of concepts and ideas for him to hold onto. Like a heartbeat.

And Alexis, being the most important person in his life, the one he's always held the most dear, would be one tangible representation of safety and comfort. And when he's in darkness, cut off from her and his friends, he can't hear or feel anyone's heartbeat. There's no comfort for him, no way to know if the ones he cares for are alright or if they need him, not that he could go to them anyway during that time. He would just feel alone and useless, like he'd failed somehow, even though what happened to him wasn't his fault and he never asked to be dragged into the shadows. He accepted the power of Darkness as a last resort so that he could survive and make it back home to his family and friends. But when he finally does come back, let's have a look at this shot from episode 30, shall we?

Now I may be stretching a little, but hear me out. I think when he comes back, one of the first things he can feel is her heartbeat. Now, normally he might not be able to because she's a girl so not to be crass, but I'm also a girl so I can say it, her boobs are in the way. But she just got her brother back after a year and thinking she'd maybe really lost him for good and they just went through a whole shadow duel, and she's sobbing. This girl's heart has to be POUNDING, so I think for him it's a feint feeling but it's there even while he's unconscious. And she's distressed despite the fact that it's good distress, sure, but the fact is that after so long spent being alone and cut off from any semblance of feeling or comfort and being unable to fulfill his need to care for and protect his loved ones, like his sister, feeling her heartbeat again would tell him that he's free. That he's safe, that she's safe. I think it would solodifty heartbeats as a source of strength and comfort to him. So I can absolutely buy that when he's being crushed under the weight of the dark and his fear and can't breathe and his own heart is racing, he could find it within himself to tap or somehow create the rhythm of his sister's calm, steady heartbeat to remind him that he's safe and that everything's okay. Or even if it's not, that it will be.

Not to mention the fact that he's a musician, and I think in that way was well, the steady rhythm of a heart would be very comforting for him and something very tangible he can hold onto in the essence of the concept because it's something he can wholeheartedly understand.

abby. i’m sitting here gnawing at the bars of my cage again. i’m thinking about LaDDshipping and how good a duel between SoL!Chazz and Nightshroud could’ve been. IT COULDVE BEEN SO GOOOD!!!!!!!!!!

i’m out here thinking about CARD SYMBOLISM OKAY. i don’t think it would’ve actually made it in considering i don’t know it’s release date but Red-Eyes Soul would’ve been such a good card to use in Nightshroud’s deck. because it is essentially REBD but with more gimmicks and it can be used as tribute for RE Darkness Dragon. plus it’s a good counter for chazz’s strategy of discarding cards to remove monsters from the field, since RES discards itself to summon out another level 7 Red-Eyes.

so a card that is the same as another in spirit, but ultimately is still used as tribute fodder and self-sacrifices to push a goal of ‘helping’ other people (since REDD gains ATK for every Dragon in the graveyard…)

okay so i’m trying to get chazz to be my bestie in tag force right now but he’s being a major prick and won’t even talk to me. so obv i googled to see if i had to do something specific and

so first off this game is so biphobic for gatekeeping him for TWO MONTHS considering it starts on May 1, second off…

chazz leaving DA, going to north, and coming back is all stretched out over a MONTH?????? A MONTH????? maybe it’s because i haven’t seen s1 in a minute but that did NOT feel like a month. maybe a week at MOST.

(side note — do we know where DA is?? one of the NPCs said the island is the pacific ocean, which makes sense if it’s near japan, but. i don’t even know with this series anymore man 😭)

Now I don't claim to know a goddamn thing about how time passes in this fuckin show but A MONTH??? I guess I can see that in the sense that he left, was gone for a while, I think it's like 11 episodes he's gone because he leaves during episode 13 and he arrives at North Academy in episode 24. But therin lies the question, is that chronological? Because the duel off between Bastion and Jaden happens before that and that's how they decide Jaden's representing them in the school duel and Sheppard comes to the conclusion they should use a first year student in the spirit of competition because he's been informed that North Academy is using a first year student, WHO IS CHAZZ. And like, we know from episode 24 that Chancellor Foster's plan to use Chazz was totally premeditated, like did he say they were using a first year student before he like fuckin shanghai'd and bogarted Chazz into North Academy or after? In which case, episode 24 would have happened chronologically before the duel off, and time has clearly passed between episode 24 and even just the cold open of episode 25, like the school duel was not the next fucking day after he got to NA like I highly doubt that.

But anyway, yeah, when he got to North Academy he could've spend a couple weeks there before the school duel or something, that would make that feel less insane a time jump aksksk but bro had me fucking shook for a second like how much of that month was him stranded in the middle of the ocean??????????? 😰 Hopefully not very long but my god I will not be able to rest 😭

(And I mean I don't think they ever say where it's at specifically in the anime, at least I know in the dub they don't to my recollection. I couldn't say if they do in the sub or not. Still gotta get around to my full show sun watchthrough but that's soo many subtitles man and I have a horrible attention span I'm too antsy and fidgety 😭 But on the first page in the manga it says the island is in the southern sea

ok wait do we know how many students went missing in the abandoned dorm?

skimming episode 22, it looks like 5-6 students, including atticus… maybe it’s because i haven’t watched gx in a full year but i don’t know i don’t remember getting a resolution on what happened to the rest of them

yusuke gave atticus the dragon mask for his sake, so i’m guessing they all had to go through the gravekeeper’s duel and only atticus made it? or are they just… gone??

From what I remember they really don't actually resolve it beyond what we know about Fujiwara's involvement and him giving Atticus the mask.

But from what I understand of what happened, and a quick google skim to fact check a few details, Fujiwara's ritual that pulled him into darkness that Atticus interrupted essentially infected the dorm with darkness and the students started disappearing, so on the subject of how many... it might've been more than what we see in the files, but it's not something we're explicitly told. But because Atticus had the mask, he was chosen by Kagemaru to become a Shadow Rider, thus Banner luring him down into the basement the day he disappeared. And as we know, Atticus put on the mask and envoked the power of Darkness and became Nightshroud so that he could actually survive.

So from what I can piece together from what little actual information we have, I think the others students are either trapped in the world of darkness..... or they're just dead.

I really don't know for sure, it's so frustrating that we don’t have any concrete answers or any actual resolution to the abandoned dorm plot line. Because it's literally so important????? Like it's the actual plot of the show???????

But yeah, that's my understanding at least?

Hell yeah! I have been perpetuating dad Crowler propaganda for years now and I will continue to do so! And episode 50 really helps me out because it's so good 😭 it really shows his growth in his care for the kids even just from episode 30 when we started seeing that from him, and 50 is really moving for me. Even though Chumley loses the duel and thinks he's finished because he failed, Crowler still lets him go because the whole point of the duel was to give Chumley the chance to prove himself to himself. And like Crowler says, "losing doesn't always mean failing." The duel really was one last lesson for him to teach Chumley before he left and it's just wonderful 😭

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Crowler is the best dad any of those kids ever had 😭

Can you imagine if Syrus' friends are just as confused as the audience regarding the fact that Syrus never snapped or became evil?

Imagine them being like, "Are you sure you don't want to go apeshit now?" quite a lot of times and Syrus always shrugging like, "Nah, not right now."

Even Zane would be a bit on the edge by the time Syrus is in charge of his recovery.

Honestly Syrus had every right to snap at some point over Zane's treatment of him. Zane treated him so bad for so long that he suffers debilitating anxiety and extremely low self-esteem and self worth. But he never held a single thing against Zane. Honestly no one did for more than a single episode for the purpose of the episodic narrative.

Syrus looks up to Zane so much that he believes everything Zane says about him is right and that he has every right to treat him as poorly as he does. He adores his brother, he loves him and idolizes him and tries so hard to make him proud and after meeting Jaden and start to gain a little more confidence and learn to believe in himself, try to prove Zane wrong.

But no matter what people still see him as being in Zane's shadow. They tackle that in episode 4 season 2: "Sad But Truesdale" one of my favorite episodes btw lol which is really the only time we see him even remotely snap or get confrontational and stand up for himself, or at least it's the first time we see that.

But the thing is, at that point he and Zane have.... sort of made amends, namely Zane telling Sy he proved him wrong about saying Sy didn't belong at Duel Academy and saying he loves him before sacrificing himself to protect him from Camula back in episode 32, but being in season 2, Zane is about to go dark himself. which therein lies the reignited of the big issue.

Because after all of that progress they made, when Zane goes dark he reverts back to not caring about Syrus but even worse than before. Even back in season 1 they try to give you hints that he might actually care about Syrus a little bit not that I believe it for a second, but now he truly doesn't care at all. Not just not caring about Syrus but not caring about anyone. But it really comes to a head in episode 95, when Syrus duels Zane to try and remind him of who he used to be, but also to prove to Zane that he's strong enough to face him and strong enough to be a true duelist. Which only serves to land him in the hospital with Zane just writing him off as weak and just as worthless and weak as he had always said he was before. Just pure emotional whiplash for Sy to deal with after the progress they started making in season 1. I literally wrote an entire one shot about it that episode fucks me up so much and makes me so mad and upset But then there's even more whiplash in season 3 because Zane comes back and protects him in Dark World and helps him work through his conflicting feelings about Jaden, and then after basically bestowing Sy unto Jay:

"You can’t leave Syrus! 😢 He needs a big brother! 😭"

"He's got one. 😌"

LITERALLY SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP EVERYWHERE STOP I CAN'T

and telling Syrus he's proud of him he says literally nothing to Sy in the sub and I hate that just dies right in front of him.

Boom. More trauma.

And then they back pedal on his death and he's alive again in season 4 and Sy dedicates so much time and effort and attention and love hinto being his caretaker. When he has every right not to. Syrus is too good to be Zane's brother. Zane doesn't deserve him.

I know I've been blabbing on here and, but listen Sy's my favorite ever I have a lot to say akaksk 😂 Syrus had every right to snap at some point, that's my whole point, and the whole point of this whole ask I'm sorry for the whole dissertation happening here akksksk

Syrus needed to have his

Moment at some point. He deserved to get frustrated with Zane, to hold him accountable for everything he said and did to him. I hate that no one ever held anything against Zane and just gave him a pass for his abusive behavior. Syrus can if he wants to, that's his right and his choice but the others shouldn't have allowed it to continue happening and not call him out on it more than the one time Jay did in episode 8 and then just dropped it.

I know if I were his friend I would be very surprised he hadn't snapped ever. I think they all should be surprised, but also at the same time it's just not the type of person Sy is. He gets into arguments and is confrontational with people sometimes it's Hassleberry 9 times out of 10 lol but generally speaking he's very timid and is just content with his situation because Zane has beaten him down so much over the years. If anything they would be more surprised if he did snap or go dark, but I think if he did it would open their eyes to how they contributed to the problem by not actually holding Zane accountable for his actions.

But for the sake of this scenario, I think they might even encourage him to just let loose because holding all that stuff in isn't healthy, but he'd say no even though he definitely would want to deep down.

A real:

Kind of moment if you will. That's what they'd be trying to get him to do, but Syrus not allowing himself to let those feelings out and just having them pile up and fester while putting on the facade that he's okay and isn't angry about everything Zane put him through... yeah I think everyone should be worried and surprised that he hasn't snapped at that point and Zane should be very nervous about Sy taking the role as his caretaker. Because when he finally does snap? All I can say is yikes and good luck because when he finally does allow himself to snap in this scenario I think he would reach a really low spot because he's already there. He would just sink even lower.

They're gonna need all hands on deck to bring him back from that eruption of emotion and pain. Because letting the floodgates open to release that much hurt, I can tell you, not for the same reasons but from being hurt by people before, it's extremely difficult to close those gates again.

And one last point to that end, you know who I think would be integral to saving Sy from that? Chazz. Because he also has horrible and intense older sibling trauma and pain that he's trying to heal from himself, and it's not even all that different from his in some ways. He can understand Syrus's feelings better than anyone, and really sympathize with him and having someone who can even remotely understand his hurt would help Sy so much when he finally does snap. It would be double special too because they never really mixed all that well, but as shitty of a thing to relate to is, this they have in common. And I'd love to see them not like... trauma bond, but trauma bond if you know what I mean aksksk like kinda actually be friends. Because Jaden loves his bestie, but he and the others could only help so much because they know what he's been through, but don't really understand.

"In Loving Memory of Allie" from Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

This was actually the first song that popped into my head. Ni No Kuni is one of my favorite games ever made. It's beautiful, it's whimsical, it's fun, it's heartbreaking, it's just pure heart and emotion and adventure, and the music is nothing short of spectacular!

Also if you love Studio Ghibli the visuals of the game are based on that style and they even did the animation for some of the cutscenes in the game which is awesome!

This piece has made me cry several times, honestly this game has made me cry more than any non FF game ever has. It touches my heart in such a profound way I can't even articulate how it makes me feel. This piece is about our main character Oliver's mother, and is essentially her theme as he journey's across this magical parallel world to try and resurrect her after her death which is the inciting incident of the opening of the game.

This piece and this game will be burned into my heart forever. 💕

This is actually one of my favorite songs in FF and probably my favorite song from 13.

It's another arrangement of Vanille's theme, and she's my favorite character in the game so immediately was entranced by it as a kid. And just like the previous piece, it's beautiful and emotional, uplifting, yet heartbreaking all the same. Bittersweet is the perfect word for it I think. 🙂
