The night air feels clean in their lungs, two women strolling the streets of Rome in the darkness spare only for the candle light attached to the shorter woman’s hip. The flames flicker with the breeze of the night as it lights their way through the dusty patches of earth and soil beneath their feet. One running from her problems and the other running to fix the other’s problems. There’s a somber silence between the two who walk side by side, pinky finger looped around pinky finger.
Sabina’s free hand drags her nails down the side of her gown, blue fabric snagging on chipped nails, hinted with hues of berries to add color and elegance to her fingers that her husband adored, forcing her to fit his idea of beauty. She feels frightened denying her husband in this manner to flee with Lapis, her teeth digging into her lips nearly drawing blood. But the thrill of being with Lapis remains stronger than any fear in her chest.
Her eyes find Lapis’ lips in the flickering light, stopping herself from staring. She couldn’t stop thinking about the feeling of lips on her neck, kissing and nipping at her skin. The way she moaned, the way her knees gave out, the way she’s never felt such desire. She wanted to feel the sensations of being loved and adorned by a woman with the facets to do so. She’s known since she was young she was different, the attention of men never interested her - but that of her childhood friend that made her stomach blossom with butterflies. She remembers her younger self, free without a care in the world for the few hours she escaped with her best friend to explore the world hand in hand.
Her first girlfriend, when she thinks about it. She still loves her dearly, but the two separated by a forced marriage and her friend finding her own partner, she longs for parents that loved and supported her like her friend’s family has. She sighs to herself drawing herself back to the present, back to her future with Lapis. The idea of her second girlfriend, her soulmate essentially whisking her away in the dead of night made her feel so safe and protected. Even the simplest of gestures brought butterflies to her stomach and made her flush.
On the other hand, Lapis’ chest bursts full with excitement, she was proud of herself for helping break Sabina out of the nightmare of her home. If you could even call it a home, she thinks to herself, one isn’t supposed to be scared of their husbands, she thinks that word even bitterly, the thought of a woman of Sabina’s stature being with a man of the likes of him. It makes Lapis sick to her stomach, that man didn’t deserve to call Sabina her wife, let alone be able to even look or touch her. She would gouge his eyes out herself given the chance - no, when she gets the chance she will.
But more so, given the chance to love Sabina the way she deserves is all that Lapis is concerned with. To wake up beside her every morning, to pepper the curve of her breasts with tender loving kisses, to make her breakfast, to ease the fears that plague her mind, and to help her grow into the strong and independent woman she knows Sabina can be, it fills her with pride and joy. She never thought herself good enough to be with a woman as gracious and divine as Sabina, who would accept her even with her being a consort of the King and Queen of Rome. A woman that would love her when she fills the heads of royals with lies, that would protect her and think just as highly of her knowing the life she’s lived and the bridges she’s burned to get there. She knew from the moment she met Sabina with the caring smile on her face and the curls that fell perfectly into her face, she was the woman she spent her whole life waiting for.
Lapis pulls Sabina to a stop, turning to look into her inviting eyes, their hands still formed as one as a smile pulls at Lapis’ lips seeing the way Sabina refuses to let go of her hand. She leans in close, her breath warm and comforting on Sabina’s skin in the light breeze of the night.
“We are nearly there, my love.” her voice nearly purring.
Bashfully, Sabina ducks her head down with a soft smile, “I can’t believe we’ve done this, Lapis. Legate Aquila would have us beheaded if he knew.”
It comes across as a joke, but they both knew deep down Sabina meant every word she spoke.
“Come now,” Lapis whispers, “I wouldn’t dare let him consider harming you.”
Her fingers pulling from Sabina’s grasp running her hands down Sabina’s gown and furthermore her body. Her fingers trailing as light as feathers, making the married woman blush deeply. Lapis bunkers down with her movements, her breath is warm dragging along the fabric of Sabina’s gown, before coming face to face with the lantern on her hips. She leans in close, blowing out the light that guided them to their freedom, sharing one last look in the dark.
Her fingers still deep on Sabina’s hips, letting her touch trace further up her body. Her fingers dance across the fabric up to her bosom, she lets said fingers briefly travel over the expanse of her breasts before coming to rest back on her shoulders. She delights in the way Sabina gasps with each movement, trying her best to hide her smirk in the dark of the night.
“Stay silent, move with the shadows, and breath still, my love.”
She leads Sabina down the pathway leading to her own home, quietly the two of them blend into the shadows with no words. Following the pathway to the scholar, the two sneak inside of the building. Bated breaths as they creep across the house to her room at the back of the structure. Her grip tight on Sabina’s hands as the pair find themselves concealed behind doors, evading any suspicion from prying eyes that would like to see them fail. Xanthe to be more precise, her calculated actions find Lapis moving cautiously in her own home, however she knows how to play to her strengths and keep herself protected from those who would harm her relationship with Sabina.
She rests Sabina onto her bed, letting her fingers find purchase on her lover’s hips, fingers nimbly undoing knots that hold the lantern against her figure. She lets one hand place the lantern on the floor, striking a match against the floor bringing it to the candle to illuminate the world around them. Shadows flicker about their faces, allowing them both to see the glances they spare for one another. Fondness on each of their faces as they breathe a breath of relief, finally being able to spare a moment's breath to just appreciate the feeling of being together.
Lapis finds herself sprawling into the bed beside Sabina, her fingers still traced along the latter’s hips. Drawing shapes into the aquamarine fabric of her gown the both of them staring into one another’s eyes, a blush flushing through Sabina’s cheeks as she draws in a deep breath feeling nervous all of a sudden.
Sabina often pictured herself in this position, face to face with Lapis’ sharing a warm breath between each other. Lips on her skin and hands tracing over her firm body, silky smooth skin that yearns for her soft touch. She draws Lapis closer and they enjoy the feeling of being lost in one another’s bodies. Though, she never thought it to be feasible in her entire life.
“May I?” Lapis whispers against Sabina’s skin, her hands now finding purchase on the string that holds Sabina’s dress to her body.
“You may.” Sabina replies quietly, words that would be lost in the air if not for the silence around them.
Lapis pulls at the string, freeing her lover of the fabric that constrains her. Fingertips draw down warm skin pushing down fabric letting the dress find itself discarded on the ground around them. She swallows nervously as Lapis’ touch is firm against her, fingertips drawing up her thighs stopping to adjust the straps of her undergarments. Sabina moans breathlessly feeling overwhelmed by the touch, it feels right but wrong.
“Are you alright?” Lapis whispers against her ear.
Clearing her throat, “Quite. I’m sorry Lapis. I’m not used to this. Being touched so… lovingly.”
“It’s the only way you should have ever been touched, my love.”
Sabina’s breath catches in her throat as warm hands trail up her body from her thighs, to her stomach. Roaming the expanses of her body, her fingers just barely finding themselves brushing against her bosom. Sabina brings her hands to Lapis stilling her movements; her touch warm and inviting despite stopping her from touching her intimate parts.
“I..I want this very much Lapis,” she breathes heavily, “I want you. But I shouldn’t. I should return to Legate Aquila before he finds out I’ve left. I fear what he should do to you, should he learn of my betrayal.”
Lapis laughs in response unconcerned with Legate Aquila, shaking her head, “I dare him to even attempt to lay a finger on you. I will draw a blade before he can even take a handful of any part of you. Tear his hand off your body - no, cut his hand off for even daring to consider doing anything to harm you or I.”
“Lapis.” She blushes, “I wish I could stay with you forever. I don’t doubt your prowess, but I don’t doubt his strength either. You’d be a fool to underestimate him, I’ve seen him take down men twice his size with ease while drunk!”
“I do doubt him nonetheless, Sabina. He is a conniving pest, he doesn’t deserve to breathe the same air that you and I do. The likes of him should have been swiftly dealt with earlier in his life to save the lot of us the embarrassment of knowing him.” Lapis chuckles, “I want you as you want me, is that not enough for you, beloved?”
“Yes, for me a thousand times yes. But to see you hurt, would bare none of this worth the... effort. I would gladly waste away a prisoner of his than to see anything become of you. You wage a war with half of Rome, I fear what that might mean for you and your safety.” Sabina sighs sadly, she casts her eyes downward unable to meet Lapis’ gaze.
Her body is warm against her own as the pair sit in silence contemplating all of the statements made in the mere moments ago. Each wanting the same, knowing the consequences might be fatal, would all be made worth it for even a night of loving one another. Lapis would gladly die for her love for Sabina, and she knew Sabina to feel the entire same towards her. She hesitates to speak for a moment, she can’t quite figure out how to ease Sabina’s worries.
“Lapis, I’m sorry-”
“Hush,” Lapis whispers, “Stay.”
“But…”
“You will never fear another thing with me by your side, my love. He can’t stop me. I am a woman with the eyes and heart for you alone, I will slay anyone in our way. My love for you knows no bounds and it will give me the strength to see everyday and every fight knowing once it is done, you will be in my arms for the rest of our existence. Now hush.” Lapis reassures, “Tonight, tonight we forget the pain, we forget Legate, we forget the world, and we stay together. Think only of me and my touch.”
Sabina hesitates only a moment, their eyes pouring long into one another. They hold their breaths anticipating the next words to leave Sabina’s loving lips, the way her eyes look longingly into thought pondering the words that left Lapis’ mouth. Sabina’s face is gorgeously golden with the flames of the lit candle, her face contorts in worry, fear of not having the strength to pick the one she loves over the fear of repercussions of doing so. She does not for a second truly doubt Lapis’ skills, she’s seen her with a blade and the way she whisks her around as though she weighs nothing.
Sabina cannot fight off her desire, Lapis’ hands that cup Sabina’s own, she brings them to her breasts, a blush decorating her cheeks along with the warm glow of the candle.
“Tonight and every night forward, I am yours alone Lapis.” She hums innocently, letting Lapis take control once more. Her eyes sliding shut, as she enjoys the feeling of being explored with such care and passion. The way her legs tangled together with pleasure as tongue meets skin, her collarbone peppered with an array of kisses that made her body shake with anticipation. The first time in years she feels safe to be in someone's arms. The lips that find purchase on her skin thrill her instead of making her sink away, her body reacting stronger than she ever realized as she cries out as hands that toy and dance deliciously over her breast, as it's replaced with a mouth that nips playfully at her nipple driving her insane.
She didn’t realize when her bra was taken off, only delighting in the pleasure of feeling loved by Lapis. Her toes curling as kisses dance down her body, following the trial of her stomach to her hips. Pulling with her teeth at the fabric of her panties, Lapis brings her hands to the fabric twisting it around her fingers looking at Sabina for consent.
“Will you stay with me forever and always be mine? May I continue with your consent? May I love you forever?”
“You may. I’ll stay with you forever Lapis.” is that the last words that leave her lips in a whisper, her voice taken from her and replaced with whimpering moans as hands traverse her curves and tongues explore the places she’s wanted Lapis to love and appreciate for the rest of her life.

it was JUST NOW that i realized you were the one who wrote a lot of my favorite acor fics from years ago !!! (went through your tag after i saw the last couple of asks you got about the book ahaha i hope you don't mind !!!) i love the fics and the meta you've done for portia and for moira, but i'd also love to hear more about your cassius and sabina MCs (if you did any playthroughs with them) and how they're different from your MCs that romanced antony and syphax
Awwww! Thank you! And never apologize for going through my tag, I have actually been loving the notification and the walk down memory lane.
I never ended up creating an MC for Sabina, I intended to but it just never happened, but my Cassius MC Brighid did end up as fleshed out as Portia and Moira and I did do a full play through with her.
Basically, Brighid is who I originally thought Portia would be (literally, I actually originally intended for Portia to be her Roman name and Brighid her Gaul name and ended up abandoning it and making Brighid a seperate MC). When I first started playing ACOR, I envisioned Portia as loving Cassius but wanting Antony and I saw her as bent on revenge at all cost but as I played the book and I started writing her, I realized that wasn’t her.
Portia, at her core, is a survivor. She was determined to not just survive Rome, but to thrive. If she had to become more Roman than Gaul, so be it. Not only that, but she would become the best Roman she could. She would show them all. And that is what made her so well suited for Antony. They were both survivors, both determined to prove the Roman elite wrong and they both wanted power. Portia became a woman who would adapt when she had to (like sparing Aquila to regain Antony’s favor) and who’s end goal wasn’t just to kill Caesar, but to claim Rome and rule it. I originally intended fo r her to love Cassius, but that just didn’t fit her. He was too idealistic for her, so in the end, I had her use him to help her kill Caesar.
Moira, my Syphax MC, is her exact opposite in every way. Moira’s whole focus has always been her family, revenge was a means to an end. Rome is her prison. She can’t lie as well as a courtesan should. She hates everything Antony stands for and lets him know. Moira wants Caesar dead, but mostly she wants her own freedom and she wants to leave Rome and everything attached to it behind. Moira was created to be the opposite of Portia.
Brighid, is more complicated. She is far more like Portia then Moira. As I said, she is the Portia that might have been. She shares many of the same qualities of Portia, the ability to lie and perform and adapt to Rome. But while Portia is a survivor at her core, Brighid is more complicated. Brighid has never forgotten Gaul, never let go of who she was and she has never forgiven Rome for what they did to her. So she wants Aquila to die and Caesar. She doesn’t care anything for Rome or the Republic, she just wants her own revenge.
But she does love Cassius. She loves his kindness and his ideals. She loves that he helps her see a new side of Rome and his people. She love that he makes her feel safe. However, as much as she loves Cassius, she is drawn to Antony like a moth to a flame. She does not like him, but she understands him and more than that she burns for him.
I chose the hate sex for Brighid and it was perfect.
She doesn’t love Antony. She doesn’t even particularly like him. But she desires him. Even as she is set on a life with Cassius, she needs that moment with Antony, one last tumble in his bed. She can tell herself it is the best way to distract him, but the truth is that she wanted it, wanted him.
But she still chooses Cassius. She loves Cassius and she is thrilled to get a life with him. A life that involves returning to Gaul, because she need that (which is also why Antony is a bad match for her, as he is the LI that will not accompany the MC to Gaul).
With Portia, I created an MC who had become Roman, who had chosen to adapt her surroundings. Brighid is who she might have been if revenge had been more important to her than survival and if she had never let go of Gaul. Brighid is not a woman that could have ever chosen Antony in the end, just like Portia would never have truly been content with Cassius. I see them both as very different from Moira, because Portia and Brighid were both willing to do whatever they had to for their goal, in a way Moira would not. Portia and Brighid are two sides of the same coin, while Moira was something else entirely.
Thank you so much for this ask @mrsstavizzi I love talking about my ACOR MCs, they have such a special spot in my heart.
