6 things i learned in 6 years of being out as nonbinary
1. not all nonbinary gender is derived from male or female.
i used to have a very simplified understanding of the gender spectrum as a triangle with the corners being male, female and agender and you could slide around on the sides or in the middle. gender is much, much bigger than that and learning that was an important lesson for both my own self-discovery as a maverique and my understanding of other people's experiences.
2. a lot of trans & nonbinary people still hold on to gender-related binaries.
somehow i wasn't aware of this until 3-4 years ago (ignorance was bliss!), but gender-related binaries are really common even in spaces that pride themselves in breaking them. male- and female-aligned used to be very common, classifying especially nonbinary people by AGAB still happens constantly, transmasc and transfem are being treated like a binary and people created a men vs non-men binary 2 years ago. we can't escape binaries even in our own communities.
3. there are a lot of people who treat nonbinary as a blank slate to project whatever is convenient to their argument on.
i'm nonbinary until i disagree, suddenly i'm a man. i'm nonbinary until i'm openly asexual, suddenly i'm a cishet female invader. nonbinary is not a single third gender, it's man-life or woman-lite. but actually nonbinary men and women don't exist, because the only way to be nonbinary is to be neither.
4. nearly every single nonbinary term either gets rebinarised or a lot of hate.
transgender used to be a term that mainly described people who we'd now call nonbinary, yet it now has a pretty binary connotation with nonbinary people still being pushed out on a regular basis. genderqueer was an earlier term for nonbinary, but binary people decided it wasn't inclusive enough if it didn't include them. people are trying to turn nonbinary into an ideology that binary people can follow rather than an identity. people hate the word enby because it gives us even the tiniest bit of legitimacy that is given to men and women by default. people lose their shit about labels that describe attraction to nonbinary people because apparently we're not a valid group of people to feel attraction towards.
5. binarism doesn't describe a general antinonbinary sentiment, but specifically bigotry against cultural genders.
we have the terms sexism, ableism, racism, classism, so it would only make sense that bigotry against nonbinary people would be called binarism, right? wrong. binarism is a form of colonial violence that frames the western gender binary as the only real gender system, and punishes cultures that recognise more than two genders. the -ism term for nonbinaryantagonism would be exorsexism.
6. binary people are gonna think you're a cringey weirdo no matter what you do, so you might as well prove them right.
no matter how palatable we try to be, at the end of the day they hate us all.

@transmascrage
Yeah so I can’t reblog this post and OP has me blocked lmao. But I’ll always take the chance to shit on Whipping Girl.
I don’t know/remember the particular paragraph in question -- I’m actually only halfway through the book. But I can tell you first and foremost what OP has written here is a bullshit maneuver to make everything about trans women. Let’s break it down.
‘Transmasc erasure’ is a tool to continue othering trans women and prevent the normalizations of transness in general.
Transmasc erasure in quotes could either be “scare quotes” meaning a way to exaggerate the importance of a thing, an attempt to mock the idea of something existing, or an attempt to quote the verbage used by other people. With such a short post I’m uncertain which, though I lean towards the mocking/scaremongering version.
Transmasc erasure is used to other trans women. Once again, this post is shorter than the average tweet so it’s hard to get a lot of nuance here. On the one hand, a good faith interpretation would run along the lines of “this problem that one particular subset of trans folks face actually also hurts others as well” buuuut it’s hard to read this in such good faith, you know? Bringing in the context of the rest of the post, it feels like it should be read more like “lol you think transmasc erasure hurts you so badly well what about”isms.
Transmasc erasure prevents the normalization of transness in general. The only actual good take in this shitpost. Sadly it’s burdened down by all the bullshit.
All right, but I was tagged because Whipping Girl got brought up. So what have I learned thus far in the painful journey of reading and dissecting Serano’s work?
First, Serano is fucking transandrophobic.
She speaks at length about how trans men have an easier time transitioning because the medical gatekeeping tends to be kinder on men than women. She explicitly states in chapter seven (emphasis mine):
In 1969, Money (and coauthors) discussed the results of tests they had administered to transsexuals to measure their feminine and masculine tendencies. The authors praised trans men for giving answers that were “masculine,” but not any more “masculine” than those of the average cissexual man. At no time did the authors consider the possibility that the trans men’s unexaggerated masculine responses were made possible by the fact that most gatekeepers, being male themselves, understood that there was more than one way to be a man. In contrast, trans women were derided for having scores that were higher on the feminine range than that of the average woman.
This segment is taken from part of the book where she talks about how trans women have to perform femininity in order to transition and how support groups will share questions and answers in order to fit into the “proper” mold so they can receive HRT and other gender affirming care.
But wait a damn minute. Trans men do this too. Hell, it’s super common, not just in trans specific medical care that to be taken seriously by medical gatekeepers that you have to find other people in similar situations and learn the script. But let’s not focus on that. Just the trans men not needing to follow a script to get care.
And in case you think nonbinary and agender or gender neutral folks are left alone in Whipping Girl (emphasis again mine):
There are many different strategies that trans people may use to ease their gender dissonance. Perhaps the most common one is trying to suppress or deny one’s subconscious sex. Others may allow their subconscious sex to come to the surface occasionally, for example through either crossdressing or role-playing. Still others may come to see themselves as bigendered (having a mixture of both femininity and masculinity and/or femaleness and maleness), gender-fluid (moving freely between genders), or genderqueer (identifying outside of the male/female gender binary). And those of us who make the choice to live as the sex other than the one we were assigned at birth are commonly called transsexuals.
Yeah no, she literally, explicitly says IN CHAPTER ONE that nonbinary, genderfluid, and genderqueer identities are a result of only partially expressing one’s subconscious sex. Because that’s how she’s experienced her transness. From denying, to cross-dressing, to nonbinary to a binary trans woman. And because she experienced things a certain way, she holds this to be true throughout the rest of her book.
Whipping Girl came out in 2007. It was written in 2005. It’s outdated to say the least, even if it was any good in 2007, which I have my own feelings about (they’re negative). If there is a single paragraph about transmasc erasure in Whipping Girl that blows away my entire understanding of the book as being transandrophobic, exorsexist bilk built upon half-baked research, racism, and the personal experiences of a college-educated, middle-class white woman, then I look forward to reading it.
But sorry, right now I don’t see it.
As for the claim that transmasc erasure can be used to other trans women and trans femme aligned folks... yeah. Trans women being at the forefront of the public’s mind when it comes to transgender issues hurts trans women because they are so closely scrutinized.
Doesn’t mean it doesn’t still hurt trans men or masc people, and it doesn’t mean that you can throw it as some gotcha card if trans spaces are criticized for prioritizing trans women and femme people or trans men or masculine people.
Anyway tl;dr stop hiding behind Serano she’s a shitty gen trans advocate and should not be taken seriously when talking about trans masculine or nonbinary or nonwhite experiences. I wonder if this is what you were looking for Andrea?
I really hate Whipping Girl and the way it gets used to belittle trans masculine experiences. And the fact that Serano is just. aldkjf exorsexist.

Since they are too scared to post on here what they did for Instagram, I’ll tell y’all the biggest concern.
We will no longer be getting canon content for the Arcana or Fictif. They are abandoning the original apps and moving any further updates to their shitty one.
If I wanted to read fanfiction of my favorite characters, I wouldn’t have downloaded the apps.
Can y’all guarantee that the stories fans make will be monitored and not deviate from canon? Do you realize the isms and phobias y’all are setting up by allowing fans to create these stories instead of professional adult writers?! This is such a scam and they’re only doing it to get people to download their horrendously made app.
I can’t even begin to describe what y’all destroyed. I’m Agender, Trans and Queer. These were my safe spaces and y’all took them.

Words mean things and hyper-specific terms of oppression help us to understand where the vitriol comes from, but the discussion of who is “allowed” to claim victimhood from an -ism kind of falls apart in reality and the seeming LACK of logic from bigots.
I often think about how a Sikh basketball player wore a turban on the court and it caused such uproar from bigots. A term thrown around for him I saw over and over again, which will not be unfamiliar to anyone who played online video games in the early 2000s, is “sand-n(word).”
An antiblack slur got reapplied for islamophobic/racist attack on those in the middle east. In the case of the basketball player, he wasn’t Black OR middle eastern/muslim.
Twice-over the man wasn’t the “intended” target of those words, but he was very much the target. A brown man was lumped in with other brown men, and apparently there wasn’t a charged enough slur for brown men, so racists needed to utilize the n word for it. There is significant baggage attached to this conversation that isn’t ABOUT him, but it still WAS about him, because he was a brown man daring to display a non-Christian religious affiliation on the court.
Cis butches get attacked in bathrooms when mistaken for trans women, and they also face violence for daring to be women “incorrectly.” It’s about them and it isn’t about them. They aren’t the intended target and yet they are. For daring to exist outside of what makes a “woman.”
Effeminate men or those deemed to BE effeminate face violence. Is it for being “gay”? Is it “misdirected misogyny”? Are the bigots “really” targeting someone else while targeting them?
Understanding the words and ideologies bigots wield is crucial to understanding where the issue comes from and how to combat it and empower those affected. But it isn’t so clear cut that no one outside who the words were “made for” experiences it.
People of color face violence for not being white across a variety of ways and degrees. People who don’t pass as white face violence for it. Even those who DO face a type of racism face it differently. All Black people are subject to anti-Blackness, but not everyone is affected the same way by colorism or misogynior. Cis men face violence for being “like women” but also for not being “like men.” GNC women face violence for being “like trans women” “like trans men” but also for not being what a woman “should” be.
Anyone who steps outside of what conservative Christian white supremacy views as the “right” way to be is punished. Recognizing how this view is so narrow that even those who ARE what bigots insist they aren’t get targeted is important. If even cis women aren’t women enough, it makes you allies to trans women, to nonbinary women, to agender people. If someone isn’t white enough, that makes you a closer ally to other people of color so much more than to the bigot.
An olympics of who is oppressed the most and who is allowed to reclaim what and who is the “actual” target matters less than 0 to bigots who will use whatever is at their disposal to target outliers. Analysis of oppression that begins and ends at oppressed vs privileged does nothing to account for reality and the spectrum of identity beyond a binary, how lateral aggression reinforces what we are trying to fight, and the fact that all oppressed identities share a relationship of oppression.

Please tell us your Thots on Barok and Gina for the ask game!
I'm going to do Gina first bc. you'll see.
Gina
Sexuality Headcanon: Bi as well as demiace/demiaro
Gender Headcanon: Girl but also in a v loose sorta agender sense. I think it really boils down to - she honestly just doesn't care. Being gendered is fine, not being gendered is also fine, but she doesn't feel strongly either way
A ship I have with said character: Goulstrade! Ginasusa & ginasusahao are also noice, but I don't have any preference here
A BROTP I have with said character: I already mentioned her siblinghood with Iris when answering previous ask, but Kazuma worsties are the funniest thing I've seen in some time and I love it. Also her found-family-ism with Herlock is super cute and just...!!
A NOTP I have with said character: Can't rly think of anything specific, so just apply the same NOTP rule as Susato
A random headcanon: Ever since she was v young she loved horses and when she had a chance she would sneak out even to just look at horsies. Even now she hopes one day the Scotland Yard will asign her a horse (or she manages to buy one)
General opinion: V good character, but divines i wish she had more screentime!! One of my faves ever since my first playthrough and yall make me like her even more <3
And now. Barok my... yes <3 (anon what did you do. now i wont shut up for a week)
Barok
Sexuality Headcanon: Aspec first and foremost. He's definitely grayace with strong leaning on ace, but what flavoring of aro is he? Nobody knows and certainly not him. Don't even ask him what gender he likes, he'll bluescreen
Gender Headcanon: Guy... maybe. I think he never really questioned it bc he didnt need to, but at the same time he also wasn't raised with strict gender roles so he has a vague understanding of what a 'man' even is. Also considering everything that happened in his life gender is just so, so low on his thinking-about list. I can absolutely see him just realising he's agender as well as being just guy[tm] and everything in between.
A ship I have with said character: Vanlock my beloved,,,,, thank you for making me rotate them in my mind again (I mean this in a good way!). Both Barok & Herlock are such strong personalities that I can't help but love it. There are just so many aspects of them that i love!! Starting from the very surface level opposites (sad vampire - essentially a sunshine) to the more complex stuff like the fact that they're balanced just right to be able to find support and solace in each other without one of them auto devolving into a 'i-can-fix-them' state. I mean it - at the very core they're both flawed or even broken people. Barok's is just way more visible because he's all 'mysterious' and angsty and Herlock is mostly masking it with being silly. Anyway if I write any more this will turn into an essay,,, Also DLC case English side my beloved
A BROTP I have with said character: Aside from the canon friendship with Albert probably Runo post-canon whatever kinda friendship thing they have going on. I mean with how big-hearted Runo is and with Barok showing that he can change & repent for being, well, collosal asshole I can easily see them being friends. I can imagine something similar for Susato but she should be allowed to throw him to the ground first
A NOTP I have with said character: Him and Kazuma is probably the clearest "no" for me. Worsties turned cordial turned maybe eventual friends sure, but I feel like there is too much grievances and trauma between them to result in any sorta healthy relationship
A random headcanon: You even wondered how he's still so flexible? Barok is still practising ballet. In secret of course!
General opinion: Easily one of my favorite DGS charas and by a landslide my favorite prosecutor (I know my avatar say otherwise lol). He's incredibly complex and honestly I just have a soft spot for characters that are just so trauma ridden. I have opinions about that part of his arc and I would just rewite it to hating Asogi's specifically and Runo by extension since they're associated/friends. But at the end of the day and what really solds Barok to me is that he shown that despite being fucking awful he can change. He's not an immovable rock, he can understand being wrong, hell, he can apologise. Try to be better person. I can't help but adore that But yeah he absolutely should have his ass handed to him once or few times, no denying that (I could say also much more but divines I really dont want this to turn into an essay lol)

I don't think that Lawful Drug/Drug & Drop rates especially highly among CLAMP's work. It's too mired in CLAMP-being-CLAMP-ism, in addition to being repeatedly dropped like a hot potato after the success of Tsubasa/xxxHolic. Maybe there's something more interesting there than absent women and homoeroticism without payoff, butI we still feel like we really don't have enough of the story to even properly gauge it. Doesn't help that there's your standard early 00s casual homophobia suffused throughout. It's nothing new or shocking if you read these types of works, but it rankles, especially alongside more overt gayness than CLAMP usually indulges in.
All that said, I have a soft spot for it. The supernatural mysteries are fun, and I appreciate Kakei and Saiga a lot. I've been thinking about Kakei, both how much I generally love him as a character and how much more I love him knowing that (major spoilers for both LD/D&D and Wish here) he's actually Hisui.
I really need to read Wish (it's already on my shelf), but it's probably the first piece of media I can recall encountering that had genderless angels (or genderless anything). CCS would technically be the first, but I didn't learn about that until much later. Anyway, Tokyopop's Wish translation was controversial when it came out because it chose feminine pronouns for Kohaku. It made enough of a splash that even at 12-13 I caught wind of it. I don't know exactly how it treats gender and genderlessness as a whole, but I have enough grasp of CLAMP that I can probably imagine.
Which makes it feel kind of refreshing to me that Kakei has a decidedly masculine presentation. Yes, I love nonhuman nonbinary characters, the ones that exist wholly outside of the gender binary (I do, every time). I don't love that their lack of human sexual organs is usually presented as the sum total explanation for their gender or their lack of gender. It paints being nonbinary or agender as an experience outside of humanity's (even moreso because the humans around them always seem to be cis). It often implies that gender is biological and reproductive, that there's no need or conception of it outside those things, that it doesn't matter (and inversely that, when those things are present, gender follows). That's the vibe CLAMP angels have for sure.
Then, Kakei happened. If one compares Hisui to Kakei, Kakei is absolutely more masculine. Yes, it's a disguise, and yes, it was necessary to pull off the twist even if people had theorized it anyway, and yes, the ulterior motive is fujobait. But still... I like that that's the direction that Kakei chose to go in, and that he's obviously so much happier that way. I like that he's living a fulfilling life affecting gender and that it is (ultimately) a life he chose. He's there to be with Kokuyou and watch over Kohaku first and foremost, but he clearly doesn't mind being "that pretty sadist guy who runs Green Drug." He's having a ball. Like love, gender is a part of humanity that Kakei has chosen to experience, indulge, and enjoy.
More of this, I guess? Maybe in less fraught contexts, lol. But more of nonhuman characters embracing a broad spectrum of gender even though their biology isn't one end of the binary or the other. More gender being presented as a thing you can just do because you want to and it feels right, even if you don't have to do it, because it's a thing that exists within our sense of self. If a character has a mind that can support that, they can have a more complicated relationship with gender than just "not applicable."

basic dni conditions:
NO hate, no k!nkshaming, no judging, no bullying, no -ists, -isms, -phobics. end of story.
NO discourse or drama. some people aren’t going to like me, or my works, and that’s just how life is. but do NOT attack, judge, hurt, or bully anyone in the space of my blog, that’s an absolute way to speedrun yourself a hard block.
NO minors. i will be writing more 18+ content than sfw content, so it would be better for both of us that you don’t follow me, or interact with my works in general. minor = block.
Tumblr media
some things to know byf:
you can find more about me here, but there are some things i feel should be addressed fairly, and that you should know should you choose to follow me.
updates will be slow, i work two jobs and go to school full time, so this might mean i can only take a limited amount of requests at a time, or that your particular request might take time to complete.
requesting is a privilege, and i genuinely appreciate your support, but requests are just requests. i’m not obligated to fulfill a request that makes me uncomfortable or that i draw no inspiration from. i will, however, do my best to acknowledge the ones i turn down to give the requester a second chance.
please read through my rules page, it’s there for a reason. i will defer all requests that violate my rules back to my rules page, sourcing the violation. my rules double as request guides, so please, please, please be sure to refer to it as you send in your requests.
content will always be tagged, both at the top of my works before the read more, and in the tags for easy blacklisting. i tag both trigger warnings and content warnings. i have a list of tags for blacklist here should you need to add them to yours.
i am mostly comfortable writing fem/afab reader inserts. at best, my sfw works will be gender-ambiguous. if you read my about me, then you know i’m cisfemale — and i’m not about to pretend i know what it’s like to struggle with gender dysphoria, or transition ftm or mtf, and honestly, i feel that would make my work disingenuous, unfair, and potentially insulting to the readers out there who are cismale, transmale, transfemale, nonbinary, agender, etc.
following #5, i would not be opposed to trying my hand at more inclusive readers should i find the proper education and re/sources that i need to accurately portray what it’s like to be in those perspectives. this includes readers of poc, body types, certain skin types, etc.
i welcome mutuals and freq visiting nonnies, if you’re here to stay, lmk! i keep a list of mutuals alongside my taglist here.
i promise i’m not as intimidating as i come across, i just reached a point in my life where i know the difference between respecting myself and others, and being used, taken advantage of, or a pushover.

Another thing I would like to speak about this is my opinion I don’t want to talk over other trans people or the community I’m not speaking for the community as a whole this is just my personal opinion and I would like to state that I respect you and please respect my opinion and the opinions of others. Thank you. Here are some topics brought up that I’ve seen and I want to jsut state and voice my opinion if I offend you in any ways your are free to scroll. I value your opinions your thoughts but please be mindful and respectful of others.
THIS IS HELLA LONG BTW SORRY IN ADVANCE
(But please read the whole thing you don’t have to if you don’t want to)
1. "The vast majority of the individuals who have been examining this are cis, which is an issue first thing"
It truly isn't, there is no issue with this. There's nothing amiss with cishets imparting their insight, since anyone can have an assessment on anything. I see what your saying in some cases the don’t but as you saw on my other post they do in some events and cases the have a freedom to voice there opinions though.
2. I still can't seem to see a 'genderbent' rendition of a male character who needed bosoms and a dfab body. This is the first and most clear motivation behind why 'genderbending' is innately transphobic - it accepts that actual characteristics and sex are something very similar, and that you can't be female without additionally being dfab. (I will say AFAB)
Indeed, more often than not genderbent characters are not given characteristics and such generalizations. In any case, what's the issue with that? There's no issue playing into generalizations. You presently can't seem to see a genderbent adaptation of a male character who needed bosoms and is AFAB. That is narrative, and individual stories can't be acknowledged as obvious proof. Regarding why, the banner appears to introduce their conviction of actuality, when it clearly isn't. There's a lot of male genderbend characters (genderbent to be female) who do need bosoms, yet for what reason would it be advisable for it to significantly matter? Generalizations or not, there ought to be no issue here.
"It expects that actual attributes and sex are something very similar, and that you can't be female without likewise being AFAB." This is indeed another supposition, not a reality. Actual characteristics in sexual orientation are not something very similar, but rather it plays into the reality and generalization that actual attributes in sex jobs/sex generalizations are something very similar, to which they (as a rule) can be. You can be female without likewise being afab, and (expressed by and by) there are numerous characters out there that are trans and were being genderbent (tragically, however we shouldn't actually genderbend trans characters since it eradicates their sexual orientation except if when they're genderbent they're as yet trans, the exact inverse way.) and you could discover numerous trans characters being genderbent or such in games, manga, and media by and large.
3. "This is cissexism, and this is transphobic. The message that 'genderbending' says is that you should have bosoms and a v/gina to be female, and you should have a penis and a level chest to be male. I ought not need to clarify why that message is transphobic."
This isn't cissexism. The genuine meaning of cissexism: "Cis-sex-ism. Noun. Prejudice or discrimination against transgender people.” Stop twisting word’s definitions to fit your appeal and opinion. Stop believing threads such as this when they can’t even use the original definition properly. Genderbending is as simple as twisting someone’s gender so they fit into the stereotype. (a majority of the time, at least.) Biological genitalia are biological genitalia. Gender is defined by your brain, but we obviously cannot show that fact if there was a genderbend, because humans brains quite obviously do not show outside of the skull.
4. “The way 'genderbends' are completed likewise has unmistakably transphobic suggestions by they way it changes out the actual attributes of characters to make them 'the contrary sex' (The notion of there being ‘opposite genders’ is some fresh bullshit that I’ll cover later in this post) For instance, by giving a male character curves and breast’s while 'genderbending' him, the message is evident that this character was cis regardless."
This is being made way deeper than the notion actually is. Switching out physical traits to play into gender roles and gender stereotypes is not bullshit whatsoever. Giving a male character breasts and curves is as simple as what the action actually is. Genderbending, nothing more, nothing less. Nobody is actually reading into how detailed this is besides the original poster. But my issue is, what’s wrong with the message that the character is cis? Is there something wrong with cis people or there being cis characters? Trans people can still fit into these categories, and assuming trans people look different from cis people (whether in fiction or not) is transphobic, not characters fitting into the ‘cis’ category in your opinion. Once again, there is the assumption that the character was cis to begin with (unless the character has been stated on their wiki or in canon to be cis, to which most aren’t usually.
5. "'Genderbending' naturally infers that all characters are cisgender of course, and deletes any chance of these characters being trans. this isn't as plainly transphobic as the main point, yet it is hurtful to trans individuals inside being a fan spaces, as the presumption that all characters are cis until unequivocally expressed in any case pushes us out of media and eliminates whatever portrayal we may attempt to make for ourselves. "
Genderbending doesn't suggest anything, the first banner (and rebloggers) are indeed assuming. This obliges the hurried suspicion false notion, which is a coherent error that shows when a argument I’dbadly made. Genderbending doesn't suggest that all characters are cisgender as a matter, however it infers that the individual who composed this accepts so. There are cis looking trans individuals, and there are so to state, "trans looking" cis individuals. It doesn't eradicate any chance, in light of the fact that there can even now be trans individuals with genderbends, just as the way that there is trans genderbends out there. (despite the fact that it's avoided upon, obviously) It isn't unsafe to anybody at all, considering genderbends are quite often for no particular reason or investigation, there is no supposition that all characters are cis until expressed something else. (also, regardless of whether there is, the thing that's the mischief in that. there's no damage in having cis individuals not be expressed and trans individuals being expressed, on the grounds that cis individuals are the greater part.) It doesn't eliminate any portrayal at all, and I'd prefer to check whether operation really had any sources identifying with that, considering this has no sources at all and explicitly lies on striking allegations and suspicions.
6. "The third issue with 'genderbending' is that it is reliably cis male and cis female, and that is it. I have never seen people 'genderbend' characters by making them nonbinary or intersex. I have never seen a genderbend of a female character which made her a trans male in light of everything. 'Genderbending' proposes that there are only two choices concerning sex: cis male and cis female. There is nothing of the sort as nonbinary individuals inside this philosophy. Intersex individuals are bizarre, best case scenario. Agender individuals are minimal better than a far off fantasy."
Prior to anything: Agender doesn't exist. Non binary isn't actually viewed as a gender what I am saying is Non-binary is not technically considered a gender Non-binary (also spelled nonbinary) or genderqueer is a spectrum of gender identities that are not exclusively masculine or feminine‍—‌identities that are outside the gender binary and there is no “opposite” to genderbend a non-binary person there is no "inverse" to genderbend a non-paired individual. In the event that somebody endeavored to "genderbend" a non-binary individual to a male or female, individuals would get vexed regardless of what they wanted. There is indeed, nothing amiss with male and female genderbends. YOU (conversing with operation and the individuals who concur) continue expecting that they're cis, which is more transphobic than what you guarantee is transphobic. You can't "genderbend" a non-binary nor intersex character, or it would be designated "transphobic" or "eradicating their personality" to which it's definitely not. You could ensure that something contrary to non-parallel is intersex (since individuals who are intersex are hermaphrodites, brought into the world with both genetalia logically) however that would likewise recieve more disdain. It doesn't infer anything, and without fail, you expect that a character is cis. For all you know, they could be stealth trans, or openly trans but you never looked at their wiki; or they could not have their gender specified on the wiki or in canon. Agender does exist what I am saying is the gender your trying to portray or the norms when you look it up Some people's gender changes over time. People whose gender is not male or female use many different terms to describe themselves, with non-binary being one of the most common. Other terms include genderqueer, agender, bigender, and more this is. That is what I am saying in that area that people don’t identify as any gender as he/she or some are fluid. yes you could do “opposite” to genderbend a non-binary person. But if someone attempted to “genderbend” a non-binary person to a male or female, people would get upset despite it being what they wanted. But that would be transphobic and defeating the purpose of there identity as a whole. Sorry some of my Japanese was switched out and there are some words do not exist in English I apologize if anyone got offended. Yes you can genderbending a cis male/female to a non-binary individual but that wouldn’t be called genderbending would it?
7. “‘Genderbending’ ignores that it is impossible to make a character ‘the opposite gender’, because there is no such thing as an ‘opposite gender’. Gender is a spectrum, not a binary, but you wouldn’t know that from the way fandom spaces treat it.”
Gender is binary, however binary doesn't mean two. Gender is chosen in the brain. It IS difficult to make a character that is non-binary or intersex the contrary sex on the grounds that there is no opposite gender of non-binarynor intersex, at any rate in the event that you would prefer not to be called transphobic or more. You can make a cis individual a non-binary person but that wouldn’t be called genderbending?? The frigidity of genderbending is when a character's gender is changed. Usually in fanfictions or fanart. The name should be changed since it is heavily confusing since genderbending also means in other definitions gender bending is sometimes a form of social activism undertaken to destroy rigid gender roles and defy sex-role stereotypes, notably in cases where the gender-nonconforming person finds these roles oppressive.
8. “Of course, there are some reasons for ‘genderbending’ cis male characters into cis females that will always get brought up in discussions on the politics of ‘genderbending.’ The most frequent is that cis girls, who only see themselves as one-dimensional characters in media, want to have characters like them who are just as multifaceted and developed as the male characters that we are given, so they make their male faves female to give themselves the representation they desire. This is a decent reason for ‘genderbending’, but it does not excuse the fact that the way in which ‘genderbending’ is done is inherently transphobic, and it gives fans yet another excuse to ignore female characters in favor of focusing on their male faves.” This whole spot I shouldn’t even have to explain. This is once again being read into way too much, there is no ‘politics’ of genderbending. There is just genderbending, plain and simple. Cis girls can want to see stuff in genderbending, as can cis guys when they genderbend a female character male to see how they’d react and such. Genderbending has no politics, besides that it’s “transphobic” to some.
9. “Another reason for ‘genderbending’ that I’ve heard is ‘it’s for the sake of character exploration - like, what if this character had been born as male/female instead?’ This excuse is cissexist and transphobic from first blush. The idea behind it is that someone ‘born as female’, aka with breasts/vagina will automatically be a cis female, allowing fans to explore what that character’s life would have been like if they were female. Why not explore the possibility of a character being designated female at birth, but still identifying as male? Why do you need a character to be cis for you to find their personality and life interesting to explore? Why do you automatically reject the notion of your fave being trans? If you want to explore what it would have been like for your male fave to have struggled with sexism, consider them being a trans woman, or a closeted afab trans person.”
Yes, character exploration. It’s not cissexist nor transphobic. Whether the character was genderbent cis or trans, it’s not about their genetalia to ‘explore’ the character, but that’s just what you thought it was. Character exploration in this case as in “How will people treat them differently due to possible sexist/misogynist laws and/or character behavior that’s normally in males inside a female, or vice versa? How would people and the law treat this female character who’s shy, if she was a male? How would people and the law treat this male character who’s obnoxious and loud and determined, if he was a female?” Not “How different will this character’s life be because they have a penis or v/g?” You reducing character exploration down to genitalia is blatantly transphobic more so than you think, as well as just downright rude.
10. ‘Genderbending’ does harm trans people. It perpetuates dangerous cissexist notions and the idea of a gender binary being a valid construct, erases nonbinary and intersex people, and others trans people. These are what we call microaggressions - they are not as dangerous as outright harassment and assault, but they enforce and support a system and ideology in which we are other, and we are worthy of hate and violence because we do not fit in.
Genderbending does not harm all trans people inherently i am talking to a group of people which is moderately huge but I am not speaking for all of the community whatsoever, considering trans people also like to genderbend characters. It plays into stereotypes and you thinking gender is a spectrum is more harmful that getting upset that someone thinking “How would people treat this character if he/she was the opposite gender?”. It does not erase non-binary nor intersex people, because you could throw them in if you really wanted to, but you’d also be the person who would call that act transphobic or ‘erasing their identity’. This is not a microaggression whatsoever, but rather a personal grudge based on assumptions you think are true, and treating your opinion as fact. That is all.
I don’t see or think why genderbending as a whole is transphobic the name should be changed though but genderbending as a whole is not bad sure they’re are issues but It is not transphobic.

Bio!Dad Bruce Wayne AU - Super Meet
Initial idea | How it Happened | Addition by iggy-of-fans | Reply to iggy’s Addition | Summer Begins | Summer Part 2 | Supers Meet (you are here) | Scarecrow Interlude |
SO we have two ways that the Parisian Super Squad meets the Batfam.
The first, which I’m only writing down because I cannot forget about it, and its hilarious is: the Super Squad gets to Gotham, gets Mari’s texts, gets to their hotel room, throws their stuff in, transforms, and starts running around looking for her. They find her walking around the fashion district with the Wayne’s. Adrien, as Chat Noir, spies Marinette first. And, in typical fashion, acts first and thinks later.
So basically the Wayne’s watch a young, blonde, male version of catwoman throw an incredibly expandable baton between them and Mari, jump down, pick her up. Say “Bonjour. Au revoir.” And then make his expandable baton extend again and carry the now screeching Marinette to the top of the building where the rest of the Super Squad is waiting. Luka is going to strangle him. Holy shit. Chat Noir? More like Chat NO-ir!
The Batfam, of course, suits up and starts chasing after them. In full daylight. (These are the perfect opportunity for “Only in Gotham tweets” tbh) They catch up to Marinette berating all of them in incredibly loud and frantic French. As Multimouse. Going on about how irresponsible it was to leave Paris unprotected! Yes she knows Hawkmoth was defeated but it is the principle of the matter!! And they left BEFORE she told them about what happened with her bio!family and Batman! ALSO THEY KIDNAPPED HER IN BROAD ASS FUCKING DAYLIGHT IT DOESN’T MATTER IF THIS IS GOTHAM YOU SHUT YOUR TRAP CHAT!
The whole squad looks so defeated but then Mari starts crying and throws herself into Chat’s arms going on about how good it is to see them and she’s so happy they’re here and they’re so so stupid! And then its a hug pile. Big hug pile. The Batfam looks on in utter confusion bc, again, only like. Two of them know French. Then Batman coughs and they all look up and just. Don’t move. Maybe if they don’t move he won’t see them.
“... I need to be taking Miss Dupain-Cheng back to her family, now.”
“But-!” WHACK (why yes that’s the sound of Marinette kicking at them all)
“You kidnapped a girl in front of her family with no warning, in a very dangerous city. I’m sure her family would like the reassurance that she’s safe.”
So Batman and the Robins take Marinette back to Wayne Manor and Alfred clings to her (like he totally didn’t put everything together already they’re all so obvious). And then the Batfam, minus costume, comes barreling down the stairs and they all tackle Marinette and its another hug pile. Bc holy shit Mari why did you get kidnapped by your so called friends? Oh, they’re stupid? Can relate.
And then. Of course. Guess who shows up at the door. Just peeks their heads in, detransformed of course. “Uh, hi? We’re friends of Marinette? We’re here to visit her?”
Bruce is shrieking like WHY. WHY IS THIS SHIT GENETIC?! Internally. Can’t spill the beans QUITE yet.
Anyway, INTRODUCTIONS GALOR, YADA YADA, Dick and Adrien get along so well. Too well. Kagami and Damien also get along well too (they’re both ready to stab a bitch, don’t test them). Luka is too chill NOT to get along with anyone, unless they insult his friends and partners. Chloe is ready to throw down but also holy shit that’s Bruce fucking Wayne? Damn, Mari. DAMN. Already on social media about this.
(Also listen, I am shipping trash so I’m going to be vague as hell with things but in my brain this will be a poly!partners au so the Super Squad is just dating each other. But for the sake of everyone they could also just be really good/close friends, as they’ll be sharing rooms and be very touchy feeling and such. Its up to you. But just know, I’m just. Like this.)
So it basically just devolves into story sharing and puppy piles and the Wayne’s all looking at the Super Squad with side eyes bc HM. HOW FAMILY. ALSO STOP TOUCHING THE BABY! NO CORRUPTING THE BABY!! THAT’S OURS!!!
WE SAW HER FIRST SO FUCK YOU!
I’M LITERALLY? HER FATHER? FUCK? YOU? YOU CATWOMAN KNOCK OFF???
This is all happening with their eyes btw
And of course. The whole squad follows Marinette out as Multimouse to go meet batman, who Bruce told her had something to talk with her about. And she kinda cries bc SHE’S GOING TO GET KICKED OUT OF THE CITY BC OF HER IDIOTS!
Its not, its the Batfam taking the Super Squad to the Justice League tower. They weren’t expecting so many people but its fine. They’ll make it work.
Because Bruce had called the Justice League for an emergency meeting that night with the tone of voice that clearly said anybody who didn’t show up would have a bat hunting them down and shoving his foot up their ass so far they’ll taste patented leather for the rest of their life. They’ve almost never seen him so angry? And he’s bringing guests? What? The fuck??
Multimouse Marinette gets briefed that, as the current Guardian of the Miraculous, and a hero of Paris, she’ll be there to get a formal apology and an explanation about why a bunch of teenagers had to fight an emotionally manipulative super villain by themselves. Chat Noir is maybe hiding behind the rest of the Miraculous Crew and they’re only kinda notice but don’t think much of it tbh. Adrien does NOT want to be the one to explain that his FATHER was said super villain. save him.
Btw the whole group is having mixed reactions to the idea of meeting the Justice League. Adrien wants to run away but he also doesn’t care? Like. They’re all superhero’s, he gets that they can’t always help, but also. Fuck. He loves being a superhero but having someone with actual experience might have saved them all a lot of heartache. Chloe, meanwhile, doesn’t give a sINGLE SHIT about the JL. Fuck them. Fuck them so hard, so assholes ignored them and they’re going to be high and mighty. She may be a better person now but she will not put up with their nonsense. Not now. Not ever. Fight her. Luka is that sort of calm angry? He’s pissed that they brushed them off but since everything’s over there’s no point in holding onto his anger. There may or may not be a lot of meditating in the Bat Plane on the way there so he doesn’t use his lyre like a fucking BOOMERANG AGAIN and smack them all upside the head with it. Kagami doesn’t care? She’ll threaten them to the ends of the earth should they ever blow off such messages again, but she also just. Has very little emotional investment in them otherwise.
Marinette, of course, is freaking out and pacing and trying to channel her inner ladybug and screaming internally bc why. WHY. She’s angry but she also understands, but she’s still so stressed. just. please. Tiny squeaks.
And okay, they get there, and Batman comes in with ALL the Robins AND all these new kids?
Flash: I’m sorry, you called an emergency meeting because of your extended family?
Diana: HUSH
Because Diana, of course, recognizes them what and who they are. And is screaming bc holy shit? The Miraculous Holders are active again? Do they need their help? Where is Ladybug? Who is the Guardian? She just has. so. many. questions.
And Captain Marvel/Shazam (seriously wtf IS HIS NAME) is fangirling HARD. Because that’s the Miraculous Holders! The ORIGINAL magic users! SEVERAL of his people (Hercules/etc) were Miraculous holders on top of Shazam and HOOOLLLY SHIT THEY’RE HERE! IN FRONT OF HIM! HOLY SHIT!!!
Superman, Green Arrow, and several others are sweating bc uh. UH. OH SHIT THOSE MESSAGES WERE REAL?
Yes. They were real. And now they have Batman in full dad mode demanding an explanation. Several people (Superman, other mutation/alien esc powers) claim they went to Paris to check on the damage but they couldn’t find any, OR the supposed supers of villain.
Multimouse steps forward and starts explains how the Ladybug powers work and if they had bothered to contact them beyond telling them this wasn’t a line of communication to be used for PRANKS, they would know better. Diana chimes in with how she was helped created BY the Ladybug miraculous, etc, why did nobody ask her about this? Hell, why did nobody ask their resident magic user, Captain Marvel/Shazam???
Green Lantern: No offense, but doesn’t this all seem a little far fetched?
Chloe: ... Bitch, you have an alien ring that gives you powers. Shut the fuck up.
So there’s some arguing, back and forth, and Bruce looses his temper a little bit. Smacks his hand HARD on the table. “Enough. It is your job to investigate. It is not your job to leave the saving of an entire city to my fucking daughter, who was barely thirteen at the time this all started. As far as I’m concerned, this can never, ever, happen again. Wonder Woman, Captain, I assume you’d be willing to go through our notifications for any discrepancies?”
And there’s a huge moment of silence. Everyone’s staring at him. Multimouse squeaks. Red Hood just. “Good going, Bats. Real smooth.”
Chat: OH MY GOD YOUR DAD IS BATMAN? WHY DIDN’T YOU SAY ANYTHING, WHY- HOOOOO OH MY GOD YOUR DAD! BATMAN! IS DAD! YOUR DAD WHO IS ALSO-!
Viperion is making wheezing noises and covers Chat’s mouth and then there’s even more yelling and arguing and finger pointing, and Bruce wants a drink. And a nap. In whatever order he can get them.
Basically he gets Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel/Shazam to agree to looking through messages but also gets the hell out of dodge.
Next in, the reactions to all this tomfoolery. Also apparently superhero-ism is now genetic.

Are there other enbies who are:
~ AFAB
~ far from femininity/"girl"ness
~ mainly attracted to AFABs
~ feel close to the "lesbian"/"sapphic" labels despite having minimal connection to girl-ism?
I'm struggling to settle in a very weird space that feels right. I'm agender-transmasc, and for all intents and purposes, I just identify as "gay" as in "attracted to my sex," but I'm feeling close to specifically feminine sexuality labels and it's really throwing me.
I know nonbinary lesbians exist, but this somehow doesn’t feel like the same thing.

I would like to talk a bit about well-meaning comments that aren't actually as helpful as you might think, and can be infuriating and/or diminutive.
"I wouldn't have known you were gay/lesbian/bi/trans/etc if you hadn't told me!" - This comment isn't inherently malicious, however it implies that queer people have a "look" where people can just tell that we are. We're hearing a lot about casual isms and microaggressions in recent months - this is an example of casual homophobia/transphobia/etc, especially as a good percentage of LGBTQ+ folx are proud of their queer identities. It can also make it seem as those who outwardly present as queer to a higher degree are in some way less valid than those who do not.
"It should never have been this way" or a similar comment in response to a legal victory - The fact that you support us in our struggles is fantastic and greatly appreciated, believe me. We need the support of our cishet allies, as our population is not large enough to consistently make effective waves on our own. But please keep in mind that comments such as the above are diminutive in nature. It feels as though instead of our victories being celebrated, they are being downplayed. It is absolutely fantastic that you believe we shouldn't have to fight, but please, don't unintentionally diminish our achievements by telling us so.
"You pass so well!" - This is another well-meaning comment that is microaggressive and problematic. It implies that "passing" is the end-all-be-all of a trans person's existence, and that people who don't pass are somehow less valid and therefore less worthy of having their gender respected. Passing in and of itself is an archaic concept meant to other trans people that are unable or don’t yet. At least, that's how it's been treated, and even though that is not how this comment is intended, the history of non-passing trans people being ostracized even from members of our own community makes it a sore topic.
"Are you getting the surgery?" or any variation of - This is personal confidential medical information that shouldn’t be asked outright, unless of course you are in the middle of a discussion about a person's transition journey. If a trans person is comfortable telling you about their transition, they will do so. Close personal friends may or may not be an exception. It depends largely on each person's personal boundaries, so make sure you are 100% certain that they are okay with it before asking any personal medical questions.
"So which one of you is the guy/girl?" - Yes, people actually DO ask this question. The answer is actually fairly simple: if two people are in a mlm or wlw relationship, there IS no other gender. Also, at least one of the people in said relationship may be nonbinary or agender, in which case there would also not be one. It just creates a very awkward experience for everyone involved and should be avoided.
"Are you a boy or a girl?" - This is just a very rude question, and erases and invalidates nonbinary and agender people. It may also induce dysphoria.
"What's your real name?" - If the question of how to address a person, including a trans person, ever arises, please use the name given to you. Even nicknames should be respected. In addition, our deadnames are private information that we might not want accidentally getting out. It could put us not only in physical danger from people who did not know we were trans ahead of time, but also mental danger if people were to decide to use it, so this question should be avoided, even if the term “deadname” is used.
And that's the list so far. There will likely be similar posts in the future as more are brought to my attention. As mentioned above, we appreciate your support, but please make sure to avoid these common microaggressions.

charlotte: bi, loud, passionate, beautiful, angery, knows All The Languages, huge nerd, loves daniel and thinks he’s a Snack, outspoken feminist, archaeologist/anthropologist and wants to explore some fucking ruins, The Lost Lenore trope, loves chocolate, exasperated, great smile, subtly insecure, doesn’t get that she could just tell daniel how she feels, has had many indiana jones like adventures (off screen, of course), for example: crashing her dirtbike into all 7 wonders of the world
danielle: french and unhinged, has seen some shit
alex: just a young lady with no chill
jacob: suffers from terminal apathy. has little understand of human behaviour. doesn’t care about people. he just plain sucks. has no endearing qualities. causes many problems. beats the shit outta richard. doesn’t like technology. so removed from humanity that he’s a touch uncanny valley
christian, eloise, charles and anthony jokes each have their own kind of flavours but fuck it, i’ll sum them all up as: contemptuous cunts who deserve to die
aaron: just a baby boy. does baby things. has like 5 parents
vincent: a dog. a good boy. does he know more than he lets on? is he mysterious? no, he is just a dog
