so I’ve seen the film abigail twice now and spoiler alert throughout but it’s so cool to me that abigail, the baby vampire who is the monster of the story, isn’t actually the real villain bc a some of the people she is trying to kill were pretty fucked up morally too.
like first and foremost, they were all willing to kidnap what they thought was this innocent little 12 year old kid purely for money. joey is the only one that shows any kind of remorse and hesitation about it when she sees that abigail appears to be a kid. and while in some cases they might have been desperate for that money, it’s established that sammy is literally rich so definitely is not. so she’s kidnapping a child purely for fun.
and then there’s that they were planning on torturing her when again they thought she was just a normal kid. true, they were scared bc dean had just been brutally murdered, but that’s still a fucked up thing to try to do to what you think is a child. frank was the one that suggested it and peter put himself up for doing it.
and then there’s the symbolism of frank not only becoming a vampire just the same as abigail and attacking her in the same manner, but also trying to kill joey too. all because she was the last one there and he enjoyed the power trip.
it’s a story about how fear, money and power can bring out a monster in us and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
thatdanstevens Bloody love this gang. Fantastic night at the Abigail Premiere! Delightful reception for such a fun and funny movie. And So. Much. Blood...
This is such a tough role, especially for a child actor. And she completely nailed it. She convincingly pulled off acting like a sweet, innocent, terrified little girl (seriously that kidnapping scene was dark...) and then quickly flipped the switch to being a bloodthirsty, cunning, sadistic monster.
And apparently she did most of her stunts herself! That's amazing!
She's like Kirsten Dunst's Claudia but on crack. And she was working in some pretty intense scenes. But, I've got no doubt that she was surrounded by a great cast and crew who took care of her during those physically and emotionally tough scenes.
I'm just so proud of her! From Matilda to Abigail, Alisha Weir is showing off quite an impressive range. Again, at such a young age, too. And I hope that her career continues to go in different directions.
thatdanstevens Thanks to everyone around the world who came out in support of our movie this weekend, making it the biggest movie of the year so far! 🦖🦍🌎
