@pisforpandemonium Absolutely!
So the first book I'm gonna recommend is Soteria by Loren Mosher and Voyce Hendrix. It's about the development of a home/intentional community for people with schizophrenia/psychosis. This home was very pro-autonomy, many workers had psychosis themselves, and they did use meds, but it was always the resident's choice and usually not the first line of treatment, as they found that psychosis often resolved on its own within a few weeks. Some of the methods used at Soteria were a little... wacky, being the 70s, but all in all it was very successful. There are now Soteria Houses all over the world.
Another one is Healing: Our Path From Mental Illness to Mental Health by Thomas Insel, MD. It's written by the former director of NIMH, and while I don't agree with every one of his takes, there is a great chapter about the Clubhouse Model, another peer support model created by a bunch of ex patients, by and for people with mental illness. People in the clubhouse are Members, not patients. They are assisted with vocational goals, food, etc, and most importantly, given community. It's a really interesting paradigm and there are hundreds of clubhouses all over the world now.
The Voices Within by Charles Fernyhough is a bit dry IMO, but it goes over the research behind voice-hearing and goes into the Hearing Voices Movement - another, you guessed it, peer support movement for voice hearers and other folks who have experiences not aligned with consensus reality i.e. psychosis.
Some others I haven't read yet are Geel Revisited after Centuries of Rehabilitation by Eugeen Roosens, and On Our Own: Patient Controlled Alternatives to the Mental Health System by Judi Chamberlin.
I'm also gonna rec a bunch of podcasts.
Heart Forward: Conversations from the Heart has a ton of awesome episodes about the US mental health system and alternatives to it. They have lovely episodes about peer respite and Trieste. It's such a compassionate and solution-focused podcast with a diverse amount of topics, I love it.
Patricia Deegan: Personal Medicine is a great one about Dr. Deegan's life and the Commonground Software she developed to help aid in joint decision-making with patients and providers, where patients have a solid say in their treatment. (I've listened to a ton of interviews with Dr. Deegan and she is an amazing, inspiring individual)
A Place of Safety? is hosted by an Italian psychiatrist who worked in Trieste (an Italian city with world-renowned mental healthcare) and he talks about a lot of problems with the NHS and how it relates to Trieste.
Alita Taylor - Open Dialogue is an episode about a highly successful mode of treatment in Western Lapland for people with psychosis and other mental illness. Here's a documentary I just found about the practice, haven't watched it yet but it looks cool.
Mad in America also has some interesting podcasts about many of these topics
Some articles:
Bethel House, basically Japan's version of Soteria
Hearing Voices Movement, as previously discussed
Hurdalsjøen Recovery Center, a "medication-free" hospital in Norway (meds are optional, not banned lol, and they also assist with tapering off)
Recovery Colleges, where struggling individuals, caregivers, and professionals all take an active role in learning about mental health
Obvs this isn't everything but I hope I've given you a good starting point!

Fallout was really good.
Ella Purnell has such a great voice. Loved her in Arcane. But I didn't realize she had these giant amazing beautiful eyes. And I really want to photograph them.
Tumblr media
Like, they could have just cast her as Alita Battle Angel and saved tons of money from not having to do CGI anime eyes.
I tried playing the first Fallout game a long time ago. But RPGs were really difficult for me with my brain fog. I just couldn't keep track of everything and gave up after a few hours of playing. So I had no clue what the story was about. My experience was mostly from cosplays and memes. So I don't know if they deviated from the story or not, but I really liked what they did.
Also, did the games have any trans characters?
Or are dork ass losers going to complain about this show being woke because someone said "their" one time?
Who am I kidding, they'll complain regardless.
But I did like how a religious leader casually used a dreaded "pronoun" and the world didn't end.
I mean... okay, bad phrasing. But you get what I'm saying.

Thank you to everyone on the miraculous fanworks discord for brainstorming this thing with me.
So, the idea behind the au (which was spawned from a train of thought that's perfectly coherent to me but I'm not going to try to explain it) is that all the sentibeings created by Emilie and everyone after her are modeled as living inanimate objects (or rather, animate objects) instead of organics- Duusu's too incoherent to tell them that they can make humans.
From here there's multiple variants about how it all goes down but this is what I'm going with:
Emilie instead decided to focus on being a good cool aunt and/or godmother to kids that already exist. Like her good friend Andre's daughter, who seemed to be having a rough time of it and didn't really have any equal playmates or adults to pay attention to her. Since Emilie can only do so much and be around so often, she decided to use the peacock to make Chloe a little shoulder angel- so she wound up making Adrien anyway, as a plush cat. (He's mentally about the same age as Chloe with whatever voice coming out of his mouth reflecting that, but slightly more mature by design.) After a month or so preparing Adrien, she sneakily left him with Chloe and just let the two bond naturally. (The amok is a golden bell which she put in a box in the safe- Gabriel knows about it and knows what it is and while he didn't really understand why she did any of this he respected her decisions.)
Now, Amelie and Colt found out about this and Colt naturally insisted he be allowed to make himself a son. Colt does not have any imagination whatsoever so he just copies what Emile did, so his son is a plush cat. Duusu's still in no state to tell him that he could've made a human boy. Colt hates his son just as much as Amelie decided to love him. Felix is quite possibly more miserable than in canon.
Meanwhile, Tomoe, who IS creative, made Kagami as a life size porcelain doll, (think Battle Angel Alita)
Tumblr media
So that way Kagami could be a fencing prodigy just the way Tomoe wants her to be. Her life is the least different between the three, but she is fully aware she's not human and hides her face in public.
As for how the plot goes down:
Adrien and Chloe grow up together, the list of people who know about Adrien being alive is pretty short but it does include anybody close to Chloe, so Andre, Sabrina, and even Marinette. He had some bad experiences early on (falling asleep out in the open in Chloe's room and getting put in the washing machine by staff because he was dusty, for instance. It wouldn't hurt, he can't really feel anything worse than extreme discomfort, but it would still be scary.) so he tries to avoid being seen at all by people he doesn't already know if he can help it.
Since Chloe can accurately be described as a good person now, having multiple people in her life care how she turns out did wonders, she passes Fu's test and is chosen to be the black cat. He slips the box into her purse (where Adrien also happens to be).... but she never finds out. Debris from Stoneheart smacks her in the head and she's knocked completely unconscious. Adrien and the box go tumbling out of her bag- since Chloe obviously can't wield the ring this way, and it's not like Fu ever tells him anything anyway, as the only conscious sapient being in the area Plagg gives Adrien the rundown and tells him how to transform, telling him that there will be a partner and that partner will have the power to reverse all the damage, so Chloe will be fine.
The transformation fully changes Adrien so that, for all intents and purposes, while he's transformed as Chat Noir he is a human (plus some cat features) and has no visible differences from how he looks in canon. (The same will go for Argos and Ryuko.)
Fu never double checks anything so going forward he thinks that Chloe is Chat Noir and just has some gender stuff going on. He's never around for any instances where Chloe and Chat Noir would be in the same physical space at the same time that couldn't be explained by other phenomena. He'd probably have a conniption if he found out the truth.

Our Significants
Kunikuzushi/Scaramouche/Wanderer x War Cyborg!Reader
Your backstory is inspired by 'Alita: Battle Angel' Explanation of your story shall begin now.
Tumblr media
°~⭐~°
Khaen'riah had been on war with the abyss for the longest time the most out of all. The pride of humanity, where no god lay their eyes on them nor did Celestia but it has a severe consequence of a land that has not been touched by anything other then humans.
The people of Khaen'riah suffered enormous casualties for the ongoing war between them and the Abyss. They created robots to aid them as The Abyss corrodes anything that lives, anything that has symbolism of nature.
The personification of The Abyss, 'Night Mother'
She who corroded the entirety of Khaen'riah, making the people seek parts of the nails from Celestia. The one where it cleanse the dark pudgy mud away, They send the remaining of robots as we know now as 'Ruin Graders' to return with the skyborne power, yet they failed.
As Khaen'riah researchers pushed themselves further to create a more capable cyborg variants where they won't have to use the heavy chunky metal to fight those creatures. Agile and more "human"
They created you, well not just you. There were many before you but they weren't as capable as you. The newest and more capable ones, where your creator learns how to fix his mistakes and make you more than capable of fighting the abyss.
Even after all the experiments, creations and prototypes. They weren't successful in winning against The Abyss, without the skyborne power they have now fallen, far from any savings. The Abyss, corroded everything in Khaen'riah. Controlling them as the Night Mother cursed them into becoming monstrous immortal beast.
°~🌕~°
Your body carried you, even after you reached your limit. Your dull eyes with star pupil slowly closing under a big sakura tree.
You slept for a hundred years, woken up by a hand, the hand's fingers were gently pushing away the sakura petals that fell on your now long hair. It was a woman, she had purple hair and a mole under her eye. She had decided to take you along with her, studying your anatomy. To study on how to make a perfect puppet for her,
The first by-product inspired by you, was Kunikuzushi. Beelzebul used everything she learned from you and your body but she forgot one thing, to disable the capability of feeling human emotions. Empathy. She realised her mistakes, at first she wanted to just finish him off but she wasn't able to. For she herself didn't realise why but her feelings are something she couldn't lie to. Letting the puppet go, she also decided to let you go too. You had done your purpose for her, so now she pays you with freedom. Freedom that... Made you and his path crossed again.
You may used to be with Beelzebul but where you were placed was somewhere far from her by-product. You once again, decided to drown yourselves in a dreamless sleep for a hundred years.
°~🌸~°
Kunikuzushi stepped upon a beautiful forest, there were pink sakura trees and orange-red maple trees. it's so spectacular especially when in sunsets, he wandered about the place. When he found the largest tree as he ventures deeper into the dream-like forest, he was taken aback seeing a person. Sleeping under the sakura tree, he heard folktales before he entered the forest. How there was a being sleeping under the tree, unawaken and peaceful. There weren't any dangerous beast near them, as if warding off the evil spirits away from wreaking havoc in such place. The village was far but not too far away, it was a peaceful one where children can laugh freely and where old folks will stay for the tranquil scenery.
He saw there was a fresh flower crown been placed on your head, it seems like the children had visited you first. You were unconsciously in high alert to danger but sensing his presence awakens you for some reason. Your eyes slowly opens, still droopy from that long sleep. He saw how ethereal you are, your pupils were star shaped just like those from Khaen'riah. What are you?
°~⭐~°
Kunikuzushi laid under the stars, the dark sky covered by galaxies. Twisting his head to the side he sees you humming with your eyes close, slowly he went toward you. Laying his head onto your lap, you didn't mind one bit. Playing with his hair as he succumb into dreamland, this dream where nightmare are kept away. He finally felt comforted and loved by someone, knowing your origin he felt that he's finally not alone. You who was searching for your name, simply saying you have forgotten it.
"Hey, Star.. Did you finally remembered your name?" He asked.
"No, no I haven't.. I don't think I was given a name either, my name... Is just a number.." Solemnly replying to his question.
"Then, can I name you?" His eagerness is so cute, you smiled at him softly. "Of course, Kuni." You can see his eyes lit up. "Then, how about (Y/N)? I'm sure it suits you!" You chuckle at his adorableness, rolling the name that he's given you with your tongue. "(Y/N).. I like it." Your voice is so calm but he saw it on your face and eyes, how soft and eager it turns just because he gave you a name.
Kunikuzushi pulled you into a hug, you were taken aback by it.. Giggling as you hug him back too, enjoying this starry night filled with galaxies. You both traveled together, fought together and all the good times. Yet you knew, the abyss is trying to find you. Your body held something precious to them, your core. The element in it can awaken that of a god, they need your core to accomplish their mission and that is to overthrow the Heavenly Principles.
Knowing how precious and how much you cared for Kuni, you could not bring yourself to stay with him. For his safety and yours
"Kuni.. I might have to go far away.."
"What? Why!? I thought you wouldn't leave me! Just like the others."
You could feel something broke in you, it's your 'heart'. Kuni's tear is something so beautiful yet it pains you whenever it happens, cupping his face and wiping his tears with your thumbs.
"Kuni, it's alright.. Just promise me this okay.." Your eyes gentle as it can be. Giving him a heart shape necklace, it has a white star in its middle that glows like a steady heartbeat. It thumps in his hand, it was a gift from you, a heart that was apart of you. He knows it because the metal chunks on your chest was missing for a bit, you gave him a piece of you so that he won't ever feel so lonely and it was also a temporary parting gift.
"When you are strong enough, you'll come and seek for me. Just like how I'll come and find you." hugging him close to you, feeling his tears soak through the haori that he brought just for you. you broke the hug and place your forehead against his, whispering his name
"My Kunikuzushi, I'll always remember you even when the world decides to forget you."
Kissing his nose and seeing the mechanical heart beats faster, just as his face got redder. Chuckling before pecking him on the lips, "Goodbye for now, my one."
•~🍀~•
Scaramouche met you again, but this time.. You're not by his side, you were by Traveler's side. Yet you still look up to him in a longing way, if he isn't inside the robot right now they would've seen how his face was contorted sadness and complication. He misses you, he longed for you but why do you have to be far from him?
Why are you still in front of him yet so far away from him at the same time?
He doesn't know either, maybe it's because the heart you gave to him was stolen away from him. Once again, he felt like he lost both you and his heart when he was woken up from the slumber Dottore put him in, he knew Dottore took it from him and forcefully tried to take it back but failed to. That blue haired vermin said that this thing is pointless, it doesn't hold any meaning whatsoever, only a hindrance of the past. Yet whenever Dottore tries to drill those words into Scaramouche's brain, it doesn't work. He himselves didn't know why but he believes that you would still find him either way yet still couldn't help with the feeling of loosing such important thing to him.
When he fell down from his giant mechagod body, his gaze was fixated on you but it was dull and tired. Your eyes were in a frenzied state, "Kuni!" You screamed his name as you run full speed to catch him from touching the ground. The stones scraps your legs as you slid down from the impact but you didn't care, atleast he's in your arms again. Holding him close to you whilst tearful sobs of his name falls out of your mouth, apologies and comforts words. Nahida places her hand on your shoulder, Traveler and Paimo looks at you in pity.
•~❤️~•
When Scaramouche erased himselves from the Irminsul, Traveler was panicked. Looking through the stories, asking people and finallly, they ask you.
"(Y/N) do you remember who you gave this to?" Dangling the necklace you made for Kunikuzushi a long time ago.
"Huh? This is...?" You tried to remember where but it felt like a missing puzzle, something wasn't right.. Your head suddenly throbbed from the unrecognisable feeling, "ouch.." Traveler and Paimon quickly makes sure you're alright when you suddenly hold your head. "It's okay just follow us." Traveler pulls you together with them.. Confused but you still comply anyways.
You met someone, well more like a puppet just like you but somehow.. It felt nostalgic, you didn't know why but your instinct told you to stay near him. You felt shy, grabbing a little bit of his sleeves he quickly turns to you with a smile "Yes?" You ask him in a soft tone "Can I... Hold onto you for a while?" He looks surprised but quickly replaced with a bashful red face, immediately saying yes. Clasping your hands together with him as you both walked together to the Sanctuary of Surasthana.
•~❤️~•
When the both of you got your memories back, he froze for a moment. "(Y/N).." He slowly walks towards you, "I'm sorry.." he looks down while holding your hands. Cupping his face just like how you always do whenever he's sad, you kiss his forehead. "It's fine, Kuni. You've been through a lot so I understand." your voice is so warm and so affectionate just for him. he felt himself melting into your hold, "I promised that I would find you my one. I did now didn't I?" your teasing smile caused him to soften too.
Placing the necklace on him again, his heart is now back with him just like how you came back for him. He could never keep his hard persona whenever you're around, he melts onto your presence just like a candle. Eventhough you gave him a heart, you are still the one that he will always claim to be where his heart truly lies in. You are everything to him and he would never ask for more.
He gave you a part of himselves, just like you gave him a part of yourselves. A heart.
-The End-

Every person I see on here going "I've never read or watched One Piece before, but I'm watching the live-action version and having a good time"? I love y'all and I'm glad you're here. New fans are always good, and the source material is readily available if you can't wait for them to make more! The entirety of what the show adapted plus a little more is free on the Shonen Jump app rn (through Chapter 108), and the app is like...$2 or $3 dollars a month for ALL of the manga (and lots and lots of other manga, it's a steal). Or if you'd rather stick with television, pretty much the entire anime series is available both subtitled and dubbed into English on Netflix, Hulu, and Crunchyroll.
But also, as good as the source material is...if the live-action series is your jam and you wanna stick with it as your primary One Piece experience until Netflix stops making it? Awesome, more power to you! Love this story in whatever form you want to, don't let anyone talk down to you about being a fan of this or that version. We don't often get faithful, fun Hollywood live-action adaptations of manga/anime (really, it's just this, Speed Racer, and Alita: Battle Angel), and if there are people appreciating One Piece fully on the merits of the live-action show, I'm all for it.

I watched the Armitage III OVA and the Dual Matrix sequel film
Tumblr media Tumblr media
they were good. nothing world-shattering but they were interesting. both the OVA and the movie had cool visuals and action scenes. there were fun characters, too, like a Billy Idol-ass guy cackling like a looney, an eccentric robot mechanic in the movie...
Tumblr media
and whatever the fuck this guy's deal is lmao:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but yeah, I do enjoy the visual style and character designs. that kinda thing can make or break things for me.
Tumblr media
the OVA natch looks way nicer to me overall, being a mid-90s product, while the film came out in 2001 and has the trappings of that era of animation production (like more muted colour palettes and jank CG animation)
Tumblr media
I do enjoy Armitage's design, still. she's recognizable as herself even with the style evolution.
Tumblr media
I was originally interested in checking out Armitage III mostly because the title character's design reminded me a lot of Gally/Alita from Gunnm/Battle Angel Alita, another pint-sized cyberpunk action girl. thematically and in terms of plot, Armitage III definitely owes a lot to Blade Runner, and apparently a lot of the names are in reference to Lovecraft (Dr. Henry Armitage -> Naomi Armitage, Dunwich Horror -> Dunwich/Danich Hill, etc.)
oh yeah, the writer of Armitage III is Chiaki Konaka who is better known for Serial Experiments Lain and Digimon Tamers, among others.
are the OVA and the movie worth checking out? imo, sure, I know I like me some goofy action anime from the 90s, especially if they star spunky girls. I do kinda enjoy the Battle Angel OVA more :'D and naturally, Ghost in the Shell (1995) since they tackle similar themes.

Hi everyone, I wanted to share something new with you all.
If you know my blog well enough, you probably know that I’m trying to produce my own album dedicated to the Resident Evil 4 Remake (2023). It’s a passion project so I had fully intended on putting my own personal funds into it but I realize that since I’m not rich 🤣 and can’t afford studio time as often as I’d like, I thought I’d begin a campaign and just put myself out there to ask for help from you all. Of course I will continue to invest what I can currently but if you feel inclined, please consider helping me out. I’m starting off with just 1 tier as of now at $3/mo. Which may not sound like a lot on its own but if even 50-100 people choose to support that adds up to $150-$300 which would be super helpful and would allow me to release quicker! Right now I do not have a projected date for release. But I anticipate at this current rate it will not be available to the public until at least March of next year. The circumstances may be subject to change but for now I will work as diligently as I can! I still have a full time job and a personal life so of course it will take some time but i’m excited for you all to experience this album. And hopefully when all is said and done you all enjoy the music I’ve created!
Thank you all for your support already ^^ i will keep posting updates as they come!
Oh! Also! If you’d like to hear what my music sounds like just to get an idea of how the music will sound, here’s some tracks I’ve written already that will appear on the album once they’ve been re-recorded. Enjoy!

like grabs you. Apollo is not in the role of Kristoph during 5-5 he is Klavier he is fucking begging athena and Phoenix to prove beyond a doubt that athena didn’t commit the crime because he desperately wants to trust athena but he DID go through the Klavier and Kristoph situation. he’s seen it over n over again in just aa4 with wocky & alita, with Klavier & daryan, with whatever the fuck is going on with the gramaryes he WANTS to trust athena but past experience and the evidence he’s found points to her, and then if the post trilogy/aa6 was good this would have made their friendship stronger but instead they just say it does and then ship Apollo off to kurahin

you know, Gunnm (Battle Angel Alita) might be one of my favorite sci-fi of all time, like, this manga is so amazing that is hard to describe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it was a reread, and i only read until the end of Last Order, i got a bit tired after i finished both Gunnm and Gunnm Last Order in 4 days. Gally (Alita) is an amazing protagonist and i love her so much. The manga have a cool representation, the cast is diverse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sechs is a trans man (canon), Xazi is a black woman, Mbadi seems to be a indian descendant, and a lot more. They become more comon in Last Order (this 3 only appear on Last order).
Now the Story, is amazing. Gally (Alita) journey is beautiful, she tries to find her place in the world and her identity, her story is beautiful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I recommend the read if you want, the story is really good. There are an anime and a Hollywood movie, none of them are better than the manga in my opinion and none of them is faithful to the manga too, so you can consume all of them and you kinda will have different experiences, i think the manga is better.

I’m so obsessed with your eldritch space fic, I just can’t get it out of my head! I swear I catch myself thinking about it at least once per day. It’s got me really wanting to finally get into sci-fi media again and I’m wondering if you happen to have any recommendations?
Oh wow.
Damn.
Okay well first of all, holy shit, thank you!
I knew BoSaS was well liked by a handful of people, but until now I didn't think anyone besides me belonged in the "thinks about it daily category" 😭💖
As for sci-fi recs... well this is going to be a bit scattershot.
I've honestly not really kept up with recent sci-fi due to over a decade of major depression and not having my shit together, and I'm not a huge fan of a lot of the sci-fi that comes out these days in visual media, so I'm trying to make some time to read some of the sci-fi stories of recent years, but again, that's a work in progress, so can't really rec much in that regard.
First things first though, if you like Beyond our Space and Starlight, I absolutely have to rec luminous beings by @daisychainsandbowties .
It's warrior nun, it's star wars, it's got the suffering and the crying and the patented Cas poetic beauty amid the despair. It's SO fucking good and if you've not read it (and its companion pieces in the same setting) you absolutely gotta.
And also before I go any further, shouting out the Bifrost Incident which @the-darkness-does-not-bargain so kindly introduced me to. (don't look up anything about it, just listen). I assume that the main motivation behind you asking is something along the lines of "what kind of sci-fi was the inspiration behind this?" To which I'd have to say it's a mix that's a little eclectic and mainly old.
But let's talk about them because why not:
First off, the biggest influence is probably the original Star Wars trilogy, with dashes of the prequel trilogy.
I could write an essay about this, but I guess I could condense my opinion on Star Wars (and its relation to BoSaS) very simplified into something like: "Yes! You SHOULD bring swords and myth/magic into sci-fi... no, not quite like that!"
Rogue One brought it back and did it pretty well. (Only truly good recent Star Wars movie) I'd also draw from other sci-fi classics like the original Alien movies, the first two Terminators and Blade Runner.
Not to be all "the original is always better," but I feel like an issue with a lot of modern sci-fi is that the setting is too effaced, it lacks story and it's just a vehicle for spectacle. I like sci-fi stories where space is BIG and scary, and being on a ship surrounded by millions upon millions of miles of vacuum, utterly hostile to life? That should feel a little claustrophobic! Or at least occasionally unsettling.
If you hit the original movies, you're more likely to catch more of the vibe of the setting itself being an important character in the story, which to me is an essential aspect of my favourite kind of sci-fi content.
Okay this is getting long, let's go over the rest faster.
Ghost in the Shell
The original movie and the Stand Alone Complex (second season especially).
This is probably one of my biggest formative experiences on my "didn't realize they were trans at the time" adolescent brain.
High concept, transhumanism, guns, fast action, and enough of a spiritual/philosophical vibe to keep it from getting bland.
Then in a similar vein of physical dissociation and occasional body horror, but you want it to be even more fucked up?
Battle Angel Alita/Gunnm
The original run in particular. This along with Ghost in the Shell was what shaped my interest in sci-fi around my adolescence. I liked how both weren't afraid to introduce philosophical, almost spiritual and mythological elements to their futuristic stories.
Ghost in the Shell especially is like, the powers of mythical creatures, achieved through technology, and it leans into that and so you get an almost spiritual experience as an end result.
This story gets fucked up at times, but it's beautiful and heart wrenching all the same.
Prey
In contrast to my "watch the originals" statement of earlier, this is a recent predator movie that's actually good.
Thorgal
Okay this one isn't sci-fi, but I'm adding it to the list because this takes my love of adding magical/fantasy elements to sci-fi, but from the other direction: a story of a viking outcast, featuring gods and mythical creatures, but ALSO sci-fi elements as the lead character is of a race of spacefaring human(oids?)
Again, the first 20-odd books especially.
A powerhouse of the classic Franco-Belgian comics, nothing quite like it.
It's getting late and this is getting long, if any mutuals wanna tag on their recs for weird and not-so-weird sci-fi, please feel free.

(reposting from a fandom post i made)
So I see some complaints about the games after Apollo justice, like you gave the spotlight to a new character but then put Phoenix right back in his original spot. I can see how a lot of people who grew attached to Apollo were upset by this and those that were a fan of Phoenix being a mentor were too. I think I have an idea on how a new game could fix this: Lawyer selection!
When a new case starts, you can choose which lawyer will take the case, Athena, Apollo, or Phoenix, each will have unique dialogue, and interpretations of the scene (for jokes, not the outcome), and you can also pick who will help you on the case too! Your partners can be Maya, Trucy, or either of the two Lawyers you didn't pick at the beginning. The prosecutors for the cases are locked in and don't change based on who you play as, this gives us the chance to see how Apollo or Athena would fair against Edgeworth, or Phoenix have a rematch with Klavier.
The person you pick as a partner can also lend you a hand in court, like if you picked Phoenix, he will offer you the Magatama, Athena will use Widget, and Apollo will tell you what he perceives. They all lead to the same conclusions. Maya however is special. Maya will do her usual thing but if you are really struggling during the trial (you go through the testimony a few times or get at least 3 penalties), then there will be a prompt when you talk to Maya that she can summon Mia to aid you, Mia will basically act like a hint system, she'll help you once and if you think you'll be fine for the rest of the trial without her, she will leave and Maya will be back.
I feel like this would be a great idea and you can experience each match-up on different playthroughs, of course, this is just a suggestion but I think it would be a good game and give people a chance to tell their own versions.
As for the story, due to how the characters would be interchanging, it would have to revolve around all involved, specifically everyone that works for the Wright Anything Agency. So I was thinking "Well there were quite a few psychos that got caught and thrown in prison thanks to these people, what if they teamed up for revenge?"
I made a list of the more psychotic killers that would be in this alliance:
---
Main trilogy:
Frank Sahwit- He seems scummy enough to join,
Redd White- I'm on the fence about him but I think he'd join.
Damon Gant- he'd still be alive and he's loopy enough to do it I think
Matt Engarde- No doubt would want revenge
Furio Tigre- He's hot-headed so I think he'd want to get some revenge.
Dahlia Hawthorne- she would need to be summoned but it's possible she'd be involved if contacted.
AJ:
Kristoph- obviously.
Alita Tiala- she's similar to Frank and Furio, not hesitant at all to get dirty.
DD:
Florent L'Belle- He legit threatened to kill Apollo, he's demented enough in my eyes.
Aristotle Means: believes his idea of the law is superior, he'd def wanna get rid of those against him.
Phantom- I'm on the fence with him.
SOJ:
Pierce Nichody- he's fueled by hatred and jealousy, and calling Miles and Phoenix tumors def puts him on the list.
---
I didn't include the Khura'in suspects because they're incarcerated in Khura'in and not Japanifornia. But this seems like a group full of bitter people that wanna see the Wright Anything Agency burn.
Anyway, what do you guys think? this is just an idea I came up with today so there's room for fixes, and if you know of other culprits that can go on the list, let me know and tell me why. I'm happy to hear feedback!

Lets talk Knights of the Zodiac:
This review will be mostly positive based on my own experience but I still will have my criticisms as I go along. To begin I want to be very transparent here and say after watching this movie: It is NOT--I repeat--NOT “Dragon Ball Evolution 2.0” like many people claim online. This movie's characters, script, dialogue, action, and story are leaps and bounds more faithful to the source material it is adapting and showing respect for it all the same. I'm positive those who keep claiming that it is have never watched the movie or are just speaking utter nonsense because let’s be real: Dragon Ball Evolution is beyond bad and KOTZ—objectively—is not.
This movie is perfectly fine; very fun I might add. It definitely stands up there with the likes of Alita: Battle Angel in terms of anime adaptations and as a movie it gets the job done.
Now for the fans going into this story expecting it to be verbatim like the original animanga, you are not going to find that here. This movie is very much an origin story for this particular universe of Saint Seiya with its own key lore and world building that takes influence from the Netflix reboot but actually executed those aspects better in comparison to how the CG show did it. I certainly appreciate this movie trying something new with its setting and story in comparison to LoS which told a very rushed rendition of the Silver Saints and Twelve Temples arc and I believe if this movie did the same thing, my expectations would be significantly lower and my criticisms far more harsher.
From an objective standpoint, this movie’s pacing definitely could use some improvement. I definitely appreciate what the writers and directors could give with the runtime they had but when it comes to character such as Nero and Seiya and Sienna’s time spent bonding, there’s definitely something to be left desired, Nero especially but we’ll get to him later. The script itself is okay, can be basic in some areas, cheesy in others but never anything that made me actually cringe. The movie’s music is otherwise really good. The orchestral Pegasus Fantasy rendition was definitely a highlight of the film for me and the music that plays through a lot of the action and somber scenes is really atmospheric.
To add, I know there were some fans that complained that not all the bronzes were here but I’m pretty sure that was for the movie’s benefit. Introducing so many characters all at once would mean that audiences would have no time to connect with them and the story would have been bloated and full of plot holes. I love how they kept the core cast as just Seiya, Nero, and Sienna for the time being to get us more familiar to their world before moving onto the others.
As for other things, the set pieces and CGI aren't terrible. It's definitely a step above most tokusatsu shows and movies but not on the level of something like Alita or some MCU movies. It's passable but definitely not a complete eye sore.
Some shots are a bit goofy but they don't linger too long and I think it adds to the charm of this being an otherwise fun action film based on an even more zany and violent anime. The fights are all well-choreographed and filmed. I saw some complaints about the lighting being dark but that's not the case here. Everything in the movie is well lit and it's obvious who's who.
I thought the armors looked pretty okay and knowing that Kurumada actually approved them looking more medieval and archaic rather than how they were in the original animanaga makes for a nice creative detail that gives this movie more uniqueness in the StS verse.
Slight spoilers here but it is confirmed and shown in the movie that the armors do in fact evolve like how they do in the original manga and anime so if this movie does get its potential sequels, I look forward to seeing how they translate that.
⚠️SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT⚠️
To move onto characters I enjoyed a majority of the main cast throughout the movie. Everyone not only understood the characters they were portraying but giving them their own charm and nuances to make them feel more like individuals.
To start with the main man Seiya, he's a lot more reserved here, because he is a lot older, but some of his attitude from the animanaga still remains like his brash attitude and his unwavering resolve to never give up. His character is quite complex with this movie going further in detail about the conflict he has with losing his sister, his obsession with finding her, and his hesitance to accept Sienna as a goddess until he witnesses it for himself. I appreciate them putting more and more time into emphasizing Seiya's relationship with his sister and Seiya at a crossroads between finding her and protecting Sienna all at once as opposed to how the anime/manga did it.
Seika is almost forgotten after the first few episodes/chapters of the original so it was nice to see that she had more of an impact on Seiya's character here.
Next, we have Sienna and I'm going to say that she is the best iteration of the Saori Kido character. While some of the pacing of her scenes were a little off at times, it didn't matter because I was engaged with what they did with her in this film. This story focuses on Sienna's humanity as opposed to the original where Saori has pretty much already accepted what she is and we never truly get to see a lot of her struggle with her heritage and most of that was relegated to the very beginning of the series. Here, Athena is the equivalent of a malevolent spirit that Sienna is constantly trying to drown out. From the way, she speaks about Athena to her parents and how that separated them feels real. She is a toung woman who’s not only caught in the middle of a broken family she cares for but is essentially a ticking time bomb. She accepts that she may not be herself one day but you can tell that deep down she doesn't want to believe that. She starts off as the typical haughty rich girl towards Seiya and while I do think that their relationship could have used a few more scenes of them getting used to each other, it still feels plausible that he cares for her I’m the end. I would be a bit of a brat too if I was going to become doomsday incarnate one day. Here she suffers loss but in turn finds a new purpose and reason to keep living. At a core it is her human side that matters most.
I also adore that Sienna starts off not in complete control of her cosmo. It gives more presence to the gods in this scenario and how dangerous their cosmo is to a regular human. It makes me really excited to see what gods late like in this universe but only time will tell.
Moving onto Alman and Guraad since they're basically two sides of the same coin. Making Alman a morally ambiguous man who is not all good fits very in line with the Mitsumasa in the original animanaga. The slow unraveling of the truth that he first and foremost only cares about his daughter is perfect and sets up the domino effect that will extend to all the children he used as a means to an end.
Guraad on the other hand is a MILLION times better than the Guraad in the Netflix reboot. Not only does she feel appropriate as an antagonist but she gives better layer to the conflict of fighting against the gods and at the same time having to come with the burden of killing her surrogate daughter to do so. Sienna and Guraad share a bond that feels genuine and when her maternal instincts shine it's wonderfully executed. It adds so much more emotionally weight knowing that a complete accident on Sienna’s end pushed away who she considered family and Guraad realizing that to makes her attempt to save Sienna feel earned.

Now we have Nero. I love Ikki in almost every universe and here it is no different. The mystery behind his character and past along with him as an antagonist is one of the best but weakest aspects of his character in this movie in my opinion. His true motives are unclear but from what a lot of people have speculated and based on Diego himself, his motivations largely have to do with Shun. Potentially Nero does not know where his brother is and I think that would make for a great parallel between Seiya and Nero if this series is to continue. He definitely has a vendetta against the gods and has the Sagittarius armor in his possession but at what ends? His character toward the end leaves more questions than answers and I wish we got a fair balance of flashbacks from his perspective to compare/contrast with Seiya’s. He is a threat through and through and the movie does well in establishing the bar that is set between him and Seiya. He's definitely a character I want to see expanded upon more in the future and what ulterior motives he has going on as it seems that Guraad was a stepping stone for things to come. I want more of him and I hope to god we do.
Marin is, dare I say, perfect. Everything from her nonchalant demeanor, to the way she trains Seiya, THE WAY SHE GOES TO SLEEP and her presence she's easily another favorite of mine in the movie next to Sienna. We get just enough of her to see what she's all about but like Nero, I hope we do see more of her. She serves the purpose she’s meant to in the story and I was quite confused about her “bound to this island by destiny” schtick (which was really an excuse to keep her out of the third arc) but overall she’s just awesome.
And last but not least Mylock. Easily he's better than Tatsumi by a country mile. The writers actually managed to make a dull asshole of a character into a fun and entertaining one. His action scenes were a highlight and were just classic king fu action that I just adore.
The story overall centers around the ideals surrounding family, humanity, and fighting through a destiny that’s not completely set in stone. It’s very anime but at the same time is personable and relatable in some way or another.
To conclude : Knights of the Zodiac is a fun film with great action, solid writing, a talented main cast of characters, and I was genuinely surprised at how much I ended up liking it. It shows respect or to the source material while doing its own thing and that’s honestly the best route it could have gone. It could have been way worse.
It’s a solid 7/10. Had some bumps in the road but it managed to make it to its destination safe and sound. Regardless of performance, I will definitely watch sequels.
