Hi, what is the difference between a Beta reader and an Alpha reader?
I'm glad you asked! Disclaimer: This is how it was explained to me, and other writers may have a different idea about it.
A Beta reader is there to catch spelling, grammar and punctuation errors (and in the case of my amazing Betas, @legolasghosty and @lockwoodsco, to tell me when things don't make sense).
An Alpha reader is less concerned with the spelling, etc., and more involved in helping brainstorm, encourage, push when needed... it was explained to me that an Alpha reader knows the story line as well as the author does, and helps them figure out how to get it where they want it to go.
agent iowa and his need to provide for his friends and to make them happy even despite the situations there in, even despite the director's oppressive eye.... trying his best to convince them all to LEAVE, to find better lives.... what if i kms
something I do appreciate about red vs blue is its particular brand of “came back wrong”. you were brought back, but you’re just a memory of the person you’re supposed to be. you’re just the expectations of them. you’re just the pieces everyone else saw and remembered. you’re tough like the original, but you’ll always fail no matter how tough you are, because the original failed, too. you’ve got a personality like the original, but it’s not quite right because you didn’t actually live the life they did. there’s this person you love- who you would kill or suffer or die for- but you don’t know why, you just know you’re supposed to be together because that’s what you were made for.
Mostly a RvB-esk storyline but with TRON elements!
Freelancer Industries is a giant tech corporation with a wide range of different fields, currently headed by Chairman Hargrove (Dillinger) since the company’s CEO went missing. Church is a User trapped inside his company’s computer network for several years by the Director (Master Control Program), who’s memories have been altered, and kept under watch by the Counselor (Sark). His daughter, Carolina, breaks into the system to find him with the help of a coworker, Wash (whom has also been stuck in there, as are several others), and external support from her brother, Epsilon, via the form of in-system programs known as “fragments”. However, some fragments are corrupted/reprogrammed by the Director and paired with various other company employees that get trapped in the system as well.
Shenanigans ensue.
Texas was programed by Church’s late wife. Simmons’ mathematics algorithm is glitched and needs bug-fixing. Grif’s code should work perfectly but he simply Doesn’t Want To. Kai is an assistant program to Grif. Lopez is a translation program but only translates into Spanish. Donut won’t tell anyone if he’s supposed to be a dating app or an aimbot. Junior is a program made to do space-flight tracking to planets that Tucker ‘finds’. Sheila is a Recognizer :).
i'll be real, as someone who loves sexy omegaverse, i'm always very excited to see unsexy depictions. goofs and gender studies sound awesome
listen you KNOW i support the sexy omegaverse girlies (*nongendered), i may not be a participant but i am a fan and an ally
unfortunately i have queer gothic gender writer brainrot so i always end up in deep spirals about how omegaverse reflects a sort of hyper-bioessentialist, highly gendered hetcomp society in which there are generally no women but everyone is acting out some part of het AFAB fear-id (pregnancy, rape, menstruation, gendered prejudice, etc) and how that means it can be used as a fascinating metaphor for things like hetcomp and transness and reproductive freedom
and of course. i will use these complex thoughts and feelings to write about liu qingge trying to get heterosexual married to shen qingqiu for profit
Daily excerpt from chapter 06 of Underline the Red:
'What are you doing here?' Caleb said. He looked angry. Angry.
'I work here,' Faber said, mind blank.
'Are you serious?'
'You were interviewing for Hillview? To be a...companion?'
A companion. A companion to omegas. Because that's what Caleb wanted, he wanted omegas. He wanted them enough that he was willing to interview at Hillview for them, willing to bond with them over and over again and go through that grief, because he wanted them so much more than a single beta. Faber could have screamed. Not just any kind of alpha companion, but one who was extra possessive, brash, charming. Yes, that was exactly the kind of alpha Caleb was. No, Faber wasn't going to scream, but maybe he'd cry later. Maybe he'd duck into the bathroom near his office and let himself, just for a few minutes.
'You work here,' Caleb said flatly, letting go of his shirt.
