"You?" (Part 1)

Pairing: Kwon Jiyong (G Dragon) x Reader

Genre: Soulmate AU, Romance, a dash of angst, sorta fluffy in later parts

Soulmate AU Prompt: Soulmates have identical counters that count the number of times they have passed their soulmate.

Five year old Kwon Jiyong found the little counter on his friend’s arm fascinating. But five year old Kwon Jiyong grew extremely frustrated when he realized that all his other five year old friends had similar ones on their arms or legs, but he didn’t have one. So he decided he didn’t want to play anymore and dragged his sister—who was supposed to be looking after him but really was just playing with her friends in another part of the park they were at—back home with him. On the way, he noticed that even she had one on her left forearm. He didn’t cry, but he felt tears well up in his eyes. This was just not fair. Everyone had a counter. Why didn’t he have one too?

He could only hold back his tears until he got home, ran to the bathroom and took off his shirt in front of the mirror only to find that he didn’t have a counter anywhere on his body. Then he started wailing. When his mother, panicking, asked him what was wrong, he told her between sobs that he wanted a counter too. That day was when he first heard the word soulmate. She told him that everyone had a counter that told them how many times they had crossed paths with their soulmate—the other half of them. Jiyong didn’t have one because his soulmate hadn’t been born yet.

The first thing Jiyong did every morning since that day was to stand in front of a mirror and inspect his body for a counter. He still didn’t quite understand the entire concept, but he didn’t want to miss his soulmate’s birth. Sometimes, he even checked thrice a day, but no matter how many times he did, the counter wouldn’t show up. He would even become angry with his soulmate at times (“Why can’t they be born already?” he would think) but then the image of a cute newborn baby he had once conjured in his mind to be his soulmate would surface and his anger would disappear. But Jiyong turned six, and then seven, and then eight and the counter never showed up.

By the time he was ten, he was the only person in his class who didn’t have a counter. At this point, though, it didn’t bother him. Of course, the cute baby’s image would pop up in his head occasionally and he still wanted a soulmate, but he had stopped checking for a counter all the time. Jiyong was busy these days, being an SM trainee and all. And it was so tiring that he often found himself dozing off during class. So the day his counter appeared, he was struggling to keep his eyes open and almost missed his soulmate’s birth. The boy sitting next to him nudged him hard—Jiyong was convinced that it would bruise—and he woke from his half-slumber with a start. His friend nodded towards his hand and Jiyong saw a tiny black dot on the inside of his right wrist that definitely was not there before.

Jiyong’s heart leapt up to his throat and he bolted from the class, shouting an excuse of needing to use the toilet on his way out. After all the years of waiting and excitement and annoyance, he was not prepared for his soulmate’s birth. He eventually found himself sitting on the floor against a wall in an empty corridor, holding his breath and staring unblinking at his wrist. The tiny dot had gotten bigger and was slowly growing. Jiyong wasn’t exactly sure how long birth took but his soulmate sure was taking pretty long. The dot eventually stopped being a dot. It was now more like a curve. He found himself wishing he could see his soulmate being born instead of looking at a counter form on his wrist.

When it looked like the counter had almost fully formed, a sound distracted Jiyong and he looked up from his wrist. There was no one around, which was strange because Jiyong could swear he heard a baby crying. When he looked back at his wrist, the counter was already complete. In place of the dot was a delicate 0. A variety of emotions overcame him, but mainly he felt an extreme happiness and overflowing love and protectiveness for this newborn. The cute little baby’s image popped up in his mind again and he instinctively knew that his soulmate looked exactly as he had pictured. His face broke into the brightest smile and he just stared at his wrist for a moment. Gathering some courage, he laid a gentle kiss onto his counter, then broke into a fit of giggles.

“Congratulations on being born, little baby,” he whispered.

His teacher scolded him when he got back to class but Jiyong didn’t care. He was over the moon. That day, he even practiced extra hard. He wanted to be perfect, so that when they finally met, his soulmate would think of him as the coolest person ever.

Thirty year old Jiyong had been through almost every experience one could go through. He had debuted with BIGBANG under YG, had faced difficulties in the beginning of his career and was now generally regarded as the ‘King of K-pop’. He had looks, talent, fame and money. He had millions of fans screaming his name. But he still hadn’t met his soulmate. World tours resulted in nothing, fanmeets, while giving him the chance to greet the fans he was so grateful for, showed no sign of them, and nights out with friends were fruitless too. He had no lead to search for them either. He had only heard crying, and every baby’s crying sounded almost the same. His soulmate probably had a better lead, but sometimes it seemed like they weren’t really looking for him at all. He had to admit, he hadn’t been a saint while waiting. He had had all sorts of flings, as well as some serious relationships that made him feel like he didn’t really need his soulmate. But whenever they ended, the longing for his other half would come back, stronger than ever. He often wondered if his soulmate was in a relationship like that, and if they didn’t want him at all.

You’ve had a soulmate counter since you were born, unlike many of your friends. They got theirs later, meaning their respective soulmates were younger than them. Yours, on the other hand, was older than you, though no one could tell how much older. You, however, had reason to believe that he was quite a few years older than you. He had to be at least old enough to be able to speak clearly when you were born. How did you know? You had heard him speak.

Since you ever a baby, you had often heard a boy (who was never anywhere near you no matter how hard you looked for him) gently whispering in a language you couldn’t quite understand. Even though you didn’t know what he was saying, you would think of his voice whenever you hurt yourself while playing or your parents scolded you, and it would give you comfort. You told your parents about this strange voice in your head when you were about six and they explained that it was your soulmate’s voice. In addition to matching soulmate counters, soulmates could clearly hear and recall the first thing their significant other had said after the counter appeared. What you kept hearing were his first words after you were born. Even years later, you could hear them, and the little giggles that had accompanied, perfectly.

Your parents took you to a language expert to find out where your soulmate was from. After several (hundred) failed attempts, you were able to replicate what he had said and were told that he was Korean. His first words to you roughly translated to “Congratulations on being born, little baby.” You had always wanted to meet your soulmate but when you discovered what he said, six year old you absolutely fell in love with him (well, you’ve always been a dramatic person). And so did your mom, coincidentally, because “he’s such a sweet boy!” You began to learn Korean not long after, and applied to every Korean university you could think of in high school. You got accepted in a university in Seoul and moved, fully believing that you would find him soon.

Of course, that was easier said than done. You knew nothing about your soulmate except that he had a counter identical to yours on his right wrist. Even the voice you remembered had probably changed drastically over the years. You had no way of knowing if he even lived in Seoul, or in Korea for that matter. So two years later, you were doing well in your classes and worked part time at a coffee shop, but no matter how many blind dates you went on or how many times your walked around the city instead of taking a taxi or a bus in the hopes of crossing him, your counter still read 0.

A/N:

My first fic! I wanted to do a GD soulmate AU because second gen idols don’t really have a lot of soulmate AUs written about them. Also, I know he’s 31 now but I started writing this way back in March (and then ended up procrastinating too much), and the story is supposed to be set a few months before he gets discharged from the military, hence he is 30 here. I’ll try to be regular with updates (if school doesn’t get in the way). Do let me know what you think!

ok here’s this. pokemon au ramble. because this week has just been me loving my ocs but bass boosted. under the cut!! this post will be REALLY long mainly because of the teams sorry!

pokemon au is pure bc no deaths or rlly bad things happen

buggy is a trainer who went on the pokemon journey for fun and as a coming-of-age kinda thing(also because he may or may not have burnt his house down with a litwick), but kinda stopped getting gym badges half way and decided to settle down and just take the road casually. he settled down with apoccy and they both run a little pokemon sanctuary and care for pokemon that aren’t able to go back to the wild or have some little quirk (for example a litwick that cant keep itself lit easily). he likes battling for fun rather than for glory, and when his rival (farrow, obvs) was like “ha im gonna beat u and become the champion and ur not” he was like “i mean ok have fun!” which makes farrow pissed. he’s a guy who really cares about pokemon’s feelings and basically got back into action from pokemon santuary-ing and fought against the coven (the bad guy team) to stop them from hurting anyone.

- Ari (talonflame) (he flies around on her!)

- Lulu (chandelure) (his absolute baby and child)

- Fluffy (ampharos) (he named it fluffy when it was a mareep but then it evolved a bit and it wasnt fluffy anymore. its name is still fluffy tho)

- Big Boy (pelipper) (he’s a big ocean enthusiast but can’t swim and is a bit afraid of the water, so he uses pelipper to navigate over it and help him fish)

- Ellis (sylveon) (he wanted him to be a flareon but he loved them a lot and he ended up becoming a sylveon but buggy still loves him 100%)

- Musha (musharna) (musha helps him go to sleep easier and stay awake better as well, it’s basically his service pokemon ahghjhdjkf. she’s usually floating by his side!)

i think mendel would be a pokemon professor bc he studies pokemon. how he was even trusted enough to hand out pokemon to small children is a mystery, but gene takes care of most of the friendly stuff with handing u ur pokemon and stuff, mendel just does the research. later on it’s revealed that mendel is part of the region’s bad guy group, the coven! (>:3cc) their goal is to fuse multiple powerful pokemon together into the perfect pokemon that is able to beat everything and everyone else, in a combination of every type in existence. (Idk if this is the plot of any game bc i dont remember the plot of any game past pokemon b/w honestly) eventually the protag gets them to not fucking destroy everything and befriend the big boy pokemon (juggy, but like pokemon) and the coven disbands their group and just live life as normal people not criminals bc pokemon verse is best verse

team: - Juggy (sivally) (idk shit about sivally or the sumo plot but it looks like a fusion pokemon and its cute so like um there we go ig. in the actual au itd probably be a completely new pokemon but im lazy)

- Cofagrigus (obvious reasons. if i didnt want to keep this au pure i wouldve mentioned he still grave digs)

-Mimikyu (shut up its cute)

- Flabebe (flowere) (”oh what a pretty flower, it will be great to work on. oh no its a pokemon. guess its my child now”)

- Arbok (its a snake he loves snakes he gives it little pats on the head and rattatas)

- Claydol (it has a ton of red eyes and its black and red what more do you want from him. also he thinks it is cool and its psychic so like hhuiionnghgh yeah)

gene is a pokemon docdor (he heals those boys up for you and takes care of them) and helps mendel out in research since they both share an interest in researching pokemon!!! he doesn’t know that hes part of the bad guy team that snatches up pokemon and doesn’t question any weird things he decides to research about until like the end. he’s really nice and’ll probably catch up to you along your journey just to see how you’re doing, check up on you, and give you cool stuff like the master ball n stuff. he has a big greenhouse where he grows berries and’ll give you some as gifts along the way. he battles you occasionally to see how strong you’ve gotten and’ll heal your pokemon when your done, giving you tips. he likes hanging out around forests and little garden areas.

- I lost my old gene team im so sad so i dont remember any of it

- Bitty (budew) (BABY BOY BABY! he loves them sm) (it evolves into roserade later on but shhhshhh baby budew)

- Swanna (pretty birb!!) (helps him water the plants in the greenhouse!!)

- Ana (unfezant) (HE NEEDS ANA OK)

- Audino (mega) (he needs that healy pokemon it’s essential) (theyre his little helper)

farrow is the stereotypical rival guy tbh. with buggy he was like “im gonna be better than u” and buggy was like “stop bullying me” but then just “ok” so he got bored. with skuggy it was more competitive, and they even battled each other right at the victory road’s entrance to see who was better, but they never got to complete the elite 4 trial since the coven juggy shit happened and they basically had to team up temporarily to stop these guys. when all of that was done farrow got back to challenging the elite four and trying to become champion, but he’s still struggling and is trying to train his team to become better while skuggy went “eh i’m done that was fun tho” and gave up. farrow hates being seen as weak and wants to have the strongest team, but he still loves his pokemon even if he pushes them near the limit sometimes while all focused up on winning.

- Ally (linoone) (theres no possum pokemon and im mad but he likes ferrets too so) (or uh. long raccoon?) (either way he loves ally and she’s kind of a tank)

- Mittens (incineroar) (this was his starter, somehow, since he took the traditional trainer coming-of-age path and went to become the best.) (he loves his cat even if it did become....bipedal and buff??????) (They share the same big ego and victory flexing) (he rides on mittens’s shoulders sometimes or mittens carries him with arms in the air like a king)

- Rogue (liepard) (cate!!) (also it really fits him!!!) (he loves his thief cat and steals everyone’s items with it and makes them mad) (skuggy has cursed this cat out for stealing all his pokemon’s items at least twice before while both her and farrow looked on grinning smugly)

- Jasper (noivern) (i associate farrow with bats a lot, i think he likes bats now) (big fuckig boy who farrow flies on and farrow really likes battling with) (when farrow is out travelling and is tired and it’s late but he can’t find anywhere to stay, jasper shields him and makes whats basically a mini tent with his wings around him)

- Doggo (houndoom) (Farrow named him doggo as a joke but it stuck) (Fire dog with evil aesthetic! Farrow loves this) (He’s a good dog and farrow pats him for doing good work. he sniffs out berries and items for him on the road and is like his guard dog.)

- Snippy (gliscor) (another bat babey) (i might change it but idk) (it’s a sneakey boy) (he is also a tank and poisons everyone’s pokemon) (farrow accidentally gets stung by him like twice a week)

skuggy is a trainer who set out on the pokemon journey as a means to get out of his shitty house and family, collecting pokemon to help defend himself, but ended up really loving pokemon (especially bug types) and trying to take on a few gyms while he was at it. eventually he met farrow and it became kind of like a little race to see who can get the most gym badges first, giving him a motivation to travel the region and take on the elite 4. after the juggy fiasco he got a bit tired of fighting and decided he valued his pokemon a lot since they defended him and helped him fight back so he said “yknow what im gonna take a break from our race thing, im just gonna find somewhere to finally stay and chil out” while farrow was shaking the elite four’s door like “LET ME IIIIIN”. he’s kinda chill now and is thinking about going back and trying to fight the 4 someday, but for now he’s just a guy who catches bugs. he and gene hang out sometimes and go into forests n stuff. he’s still a butcher in this world ig. mans gotta make some money

team:

- Clove (scolipede) (his first pokemon, he caught it and went with it, but got really attached really fast) (she is his baby and he made it so far with her by his side and is really proud of both clove and himself for getting this far)

- Big Tony (armaldo) (he found a fossil pokemon and kept it since it’s rock type and can help ward off fire types, which is a big weakness of his team, but he ended up loving big tony too. i know theyre supposed to be like 4 foot 9 but please imagine big tony as a BIG boy that skuggy can ride on its shoulders and back to get around.)

- Babie (ribombee) (he caught this thing and said “this is the cutest shit i’ve ever seen.” went on to destroy dragon types and be the best bee ever.) (actually it’s pretty weak but skuggy believes in them)

- Toaster (heracross) (heracross was too cute for skuggy NOT to catch. it’s the powerhouse. this boy rips thru pokemon likes it’s nothing. unless it’s a fire or flying type. then it dies.) (it likes to f i t e and shares skuggy’s quick temper, because u know what they say, like pokemon like trainer)

- Big old boy (stoutland) (this was also one of the first pokemon he’s ever caught and it was really strong, defended him well and was kind of like the tank of the team, so he kept it. he likes sleeping on its back, and sometimes it has to remember it isn’t a tiny dog anymore because it tries to jump at skuggy to greet him and he gets fucking smashed.) (hes a very good boy, he’s very fluffy, and skuggy loves him so much and owes him his life)

- Jeff (swadloon) (skuggy loves his emo-looking son.) (ever since he beat depression in the dick he just cant help but see himself in swadloon) (but swadloon is happy, just very comfy and grumpy) (swadloon loves skuggy and skuggy loves swadloon) (i mean just look at him) (it’s perfect for skuggy)

okay i’m done here there’s obviously more people but this post is getting alarmingly long and i still need to make their teams. if u read this entire thing u deserve 20 cat images and more jesus christ u madman !!!!!!

Ava Character Development aka me answering questions I made on my post here. Felt it was a good exercise for myself! Most is under the cut since its a long list. 20 and 28 though below are important to me though, but I'm just posting this to have it out there (I did tell myself I would do this so)

1. Where is their favorite place to hang out in Vesuvia? Why?

The market. Her old village had occasional merchants pass through and seeing their wares was always a special moment for her. Seeing it all available and bustling everyday makes it even better. Ava often buys gifts for others there.

2. How does your apprentice feel when they are called a witch?

Doesnt care. Since most of her magic is wind, its very easy to conceal when she uses it, and can appear none the wiser when messing with people. Only until she acquired the shop did people know she was a magician, but still applies. Shrugs it off.

3. Do they have a familiar? Why did you choose that animal? How did they meet?

Already answered but here again: She does not have one. If she did I always imagined a tiny bird or chipmunk/squirrel. At the same time, I can see her with a gigantic fluffy dog or something of the sort to nap with often.

4. Are there any of Nadia's sisters your apprentice would like to hang out with?

She can get along with any of them. I think she would get along best with Nasmira though.

5. What is their opinion on each of the courtiers?

Volta: poor girl, tries to help her out.

Valerius: doesnt bother her, his pettiness rivals her own, but she ignores him

Vulgora: also ignores, but also makes her laugh

Vlastomil: Creepy, doesnt know how to handle him

Valdemar: do not interact

6. What did they do while at the clinic?

She likely helped with keeping the patients as comfortable as they can try to be. Stuff like getting more bedding, purifying and cleaning everything, meal prep, etc, while Julian tried actual treatment options.

7. What are their tasks around the shop? What can they make?

Similar to clinic work. Making sure things are in order and tidy. Lets Asra work with sales.

8. Describe their daily routine

Ava is an early riser, easy to wake, but not willing to leave the bed. Eventually gets up, gets the shop ready or cooks while Asra tends to the other. Lunch break she goes into the market and other shops to get food or errands. Close shop in the afternoon, eat dinner, and sometimes they hang out together, spend time alone, or go to meet with other friends.

No idea. Should research this.

12. Did they have a certain opinion about the palace and court before the events of the game? Did it change?

Always wondered what all the partying was like, but believed all of them in the palace didnt care about the town. Changed knowing Nadia and Portia at least do.

13. How do they feel about traveling in the magical realms?

Loves it! Loves exploring and adventuring, and seeing stuff she never possibly could normally in the world.

14. Where is their least favorite place in Vesuvia? Why?

Nopal (though is that technically not in Vesuvia? Idk) because she does not like warm places. Next would be the Coliseum after knowing the history of that place.

15. How did your apprentice feel about Asra leaving them all the time? Taking care of them?

She picked up a lot of his mannerisms over those years. Him leaving without her bothered Ava greatly, not just because he didnt take her, but that she couldnt take her own trips on the flip side if he was here. Tried to be the smallest burden when he was taking care of her. Didnt ask for much.

16. Name the one thing your apprentice wants to see happen, or say to someone.

To see to her mom again before she died of the plague, since she left when she was old enough to (around 14-15)

17. What is the outcome you see happening for your apprentice and their significant other?

Traveling away from Vesuvia in the summer to somewhere cooler, and other places throughout the year. Still owns the shop but operates it inconsistently. Would not be the same if she was with Nadia, but maybe so for Julian.

18. What would drive your apprentice so far as to strike a bargain?

Dunno, do not think she would.

19. At this point in the game, do they care more about recovering the rest of their memories or living as they are now?

She is not concerned as much anymore about recovering her memories and would rather just live as she is in the present.

20. Would they be up for another Masquerade despite all that has happened? New outfit theme?

Yes, although without all the stress, and not prepping or cleaning anything. Not sure about any masquerade outfit for her at all yet. Copying Faust? A moth? Deer? Some sort of aquatic outfit? Please help me.

21. What is their first reaction seeing their LI cry?

Give the biggest hug on the planet. Smooth their back, hair, etc. Kiss their cheek or shoulder and let them cry it out while reassuring them

22. Are they scared of what they have learned? Of the powers they have developed?

She really wants to know whats going on and why she is basically ‘the chosen one’. Shes more weary and concerned than scared.

23. Do they like snow? Have they seen it before?

Ava loves snow! Has seen it before, but not since Vesuvia.

No.

27. What is the best thing their significant other could do to cheer them up?

Give them something back. A gift. Spend quiet time together in their company as she gets through it. Hold her.

28. Describe what their magical realm gateway would look like.

Represents a forest, and is either daytime or nighttime depending on when she opens it. Its huge, full of mystery and magical beings, and she rarely starts in the same place, which makes it feel like its changing all the time when it actually isnt. Sometimes there is a chance she sees colorful magic swirl around, similar to visiting the cave in Asra’s route.

If she spent more time here, she would eventually find landmarks of especially interesting areas such as a waterfall off a giant cliff near the edge of the forest, the spring that travels away from it, an area where the trees are especially tall (think Emerald Graves in Dragon Age Inquisition, but not quite as giant), certain hot spots for certain magical animals or plants, etc.
