Maybe This Time - Part Three
Jessie Fleming x Reader
Summary: Jessie and you finally get some 1:1 time together (thanks Janine!). You work to build new memories together, but hurt from the past needs to be addressed.
Warnings: None. Temporary, very light angst, but mostly sweet fluff.
A/N: Part two and one. Part Four will likely be the finale.

"What do you think? Should I go for it?"
Jessie smirked as she saw the screenshot you sent her of her jersey in the Thorns' site shopping cart.
"I don't know. I thought you said that was too big a commitment."
"I did. But I was rather impressed at the last game. And we went for drinks after, I finally got to meet Janine – so you know, points for that. And if I think about it, I'm like an OG fan. But if you think I should get a different jersey..."
Jessie laughed under her breath, her smirk now a full blown smile as she read your message while she ate lunch. The conversation she'd been on the periphery of carried on as she ate another bite before typing out a reply.
"Oh yeah? Post-game drinks were a hit, huh? And you know, my stats are only getting better with each game 😉 And let's be honest, I'd be pretty offended if you got someone else's jersey. Except Sinc's. Because, you know, GOAT."
"Oh, well, say no more. You had me at 'stats' lol. Done. I'll pick it up before next game."
"Lol I figured. My plan all along – I know how much you love stats."
"You know me so well. I have to say, I'm kind of tempted to modify the jersey. Add some sort of patch or stitching, 'Yay sports!'"
Jessie laughed out loud, less discrete than before.
"Don't you dare lol. I've taught you better than that. But hey, if you ask nicely, I could actually sign it for you 😎"
"I'm sure I have an old group paper kicking around with your signature on it. I need to be able to wash this thing lol. What else can you offer though?"
Jessie swallowed her food hard, the bite getting caught temporarily in her throat with a wince. Okay, no signature – how humbling. However, there was an opening.
She stared at her phone temporarily before a loud clearing of someone's throat caught her attention. She lifted her gaze with a curious frown on her face to see Janine staring expectantly at her. Jessie instinctively tilted the phone inwards towards her body.
"I don't even have to spy to know who you're texting," the blonde said rather self-satisfied. Jessie looked around, heat building in her face already as she hoped Janine was the only one focused on her.
"Yeah?" Jessie retorted, attempting to appear as unfazed as possible. "You should be pleased. You keep pushing me to text her." She cracked a smirk. "Now that you don't think she's the devil incarnate for 'stringing me along' in university."
"Oh I don't think you need to be pushed," Janine teased with a wicked grin. "And I never said she was the devil incarnate." She lifted a hand to her chest in exaggeration. "I merely questioned things. But you're right," she relented, "she's quite lovely. And she gives you butterflies, and she makes you blush - more than usual - and you try to act all nonchalant and it's just too adorable for words."
"Uh huh," Jessie muttered with a flat look. Janine leaned in excitedly.
"And I have to say, I got the sense that she and I could riff off of each other and just tease the heck out of you, so that really sealed the deal for me."
Jessie rolled her eyes. "Oh yeah, that's exactly what I need in my life." She'd never admit that it actually excited her that her best friend and you could get along so well. If – and it was a huge 'if' - anything evolved between you two, it was key that you got along with her friends and family.
She started thinking about how well you got on with her parents and sister – you'd met before during your days at UCLA and they loved you. She also remembered how disappointed they'd seemed when she eventually told them that you two didn't speak anymore.
"Well, since you're so invested," Jessie went on, rolling her eyes facetiously once more as she opened her phone again and turned it to Janine, "what should I say?"
Janine squinted as she leaned in to read and it only took a moment for her expression to light up. Before Janine could say anything, Jessie snatched the phone back and placed it on her lap with a frown.
"I don't want to hear it," she pre-empted the girl.
"What?" Janine said innocently with a mischievous glint in her eye. "I am totally supportive of the flirtation between you two." She ignored Jessie's look of complaint and cut off her protest. "Her shutting down your autograph is pretty hilarious, by the way," she said with a marginally apologetic look. "Not smooth on your part – you know she's not impressed by your elite football skills. Don't lean on your Jessie the Footballer identity."
"I wasn't," Jessie nearly hissed, trying to keep her voice down and avoid drawing attention. "I was joking. Half joking."
"You were flirting, or at least attempting to. She left you an opening here though. So, you should ask her out."
"I'm not asking her out," Jessie pouted, her shoulders rounding as she scooched closer to the table. She huffed upon seeing the scrutinizing look her friend gave her. "We're still getting to know each other again."
"Fine. Don't define it as a date, then," Janine dismissed with a wave. She leaned in, folding her arms on the table. "Ask her to go for dinner."
"Basic," Jessie remarked as she sat up and crossed her arms in disapproval. She frowned. "Plus that's too date-like."
"Fine," Janine said curtly. "How about a hike?"
Jessie hummed and hawed, unconvinced. "Maybe someday. Doesn't seem right at this point though." Janine rolled her eyes in exasperation.
"Well, what did you two used to do back at UCLA?"
Jessie shrugged. She saw the frustration Janine was telegraphing at how unhelpful she was being and jumped in. "We went to drop-in art classes sometimes."
Janine held a hand up to the sky. "Thank you. Finally – something I can work with. Okay! Let's find a drop-in class for you two to go to then." She pulled out her phone and started browsing before shooting a look at Jessie as an aside. "Oh, and dinner's too date-llke, but an art class isn't? Okay."
Jessie grunted and pulled out her phone as well to look.
"Here," Jessie announced after a couple of minutes. "This'll work. She enjoyed painting."
Without further consultation, Jessie began to type out a message to you. She bit back a laugh at how Janine's head was bobbing around periodically trying to peek at the message from across the table.
"Don't send it yet! I want to see it," Janine pouted.
"You are not writing my messages for me," Jessie told her pointedly, but gave a heavy sigh as she turned her phone for the blonde to see. An affronted look crossed Jessie face as Janine let out a guffaw and snatched the phone out of her hand.
"No," Janine simply said with a wag of her finger before she started typing. Jessie reached out for the phone, but Janine turned her body away. Jessie clamored more, but stopped as soon as she noted some of their teammates glancing their way. She shrunk back into her seat, a hand rubbing the side of her face as she spoke in a harsh whisper.   "What are you doing."
"Jeff. Relax. I would never lead you astray," Janine assured her. "And this is so very satisfying for me since I never got to help you with any of this during uni. Cause let me tell you, if I had been involved, you two definitely would've been living happily ever after."
Jessie breathed in exasperation. "Please. Give me my phone back."
"Okay, okay. Here," Janine said, all humour from her tone gone as she now offered Jessie a sincere smile. "Read it over, but I think this is good."
Jessie gave her a lingering stare as she took back her phone and let out another withering sigh before reading.
"Funny you should ask. I was thinking about how much I missed art classes together. How about I take you to one of the drop-in painting classes across town when I'm back from Houston?"
Jessie lifted her gaze to meet Janine's and she studied the blonde for a few moments before relenting with an inaudible sigh. It was better than her original "I don't know. Paint class?" reply. She hit send and released another heavy breath as she tucked the phone away once more.
"You're welcome," Janine said with a saccharine smile. Jessie gave her a fake smile in return, pulling a laugh out of the girl. "Hey, let's remember which one of us is engaged and which one of us is perpetually single."
"Ouch," Jessie said with a light laugh.
"I'm just teasing," Janine went on. "I genuinely hope this turns into something for you. Considering you've only come back into each other's lives, what, like a couple months ago? You two seem pretty solid already. And you seem happier."
Jessie wanted to give a dry retort of some kind, but Janine was right. You two talked every day now and the chemistry you had in university was still very much present. And the depth you once had in your friendship was something that was quite easily and naturally being broached again. Even if you'd both grown and changed, the cores of who you were still aligned well and fit together. Too well.
She'd more or less dismissed the spark of emotions that came up during your initial interactions as some sort of emotional muscle memory, but the feelings were proving to not be fleeting or diminishing.
If anything, her feelings for you were growing. And this time they felt different, too. Heavier, deeper in some way. She was a more realized person now, as were you, and it made the connection between you more substantial. Less juvenile.
Her phone buzzed. She opened her lock screen.
"That sounds like a lot of fun! Let's do it."
————
By the time your paint date night came around, Jessie was nearly buzzing with anticipation. It wasn’t an official date, of course, but she hadn’t seen you since that night after the game, and truthfully, it felt like it had been too long.
She was early - as usual - but as she rounded the corner to the building, she bit back a smile upon seeing you waiting. You were always early too, which she appreciated.
“Hey.” Jessie greeted as she approached. Again, she had to tamp her smile when you beamed back at her.
“Hey, good to see you,” you said as you stepped in for a hug, which Jessie reciprocated. “I love your shirt,” you continued when you stepped back.
“Oh,” Jessie said with a slight frown and a mild laugh as she looked down at herself in question. “Thanks,” she said as she gave a shrug and fought off a blush. She looked you up and down, not entirely discretely. “I like your outfit.”
You rolled your eyes affectionately and gave her a look. “You don’t need to reciprocate my compliment. But thank you.”
“I legitimately like your outfit,” Jessie retorted, her pitch rising and pulling a laugh out of you as you both walked towards the building. Jessie took a few quick steps and grabbed the door, holding it open. “After you.”
“Such service. Thank you,” you said, both teasing and appreciative. Jessie didn’t wink, but she did give a teasing lift of her eyebrows as you passed.
As the instructor gave their directions for the lesson, Jessie found herself distracted, glancing at you out of the corner of her eye. The whole lesson carried on like that, really. Jessie had to make a point to not fall behind as she’d uncharacteristically lose concentration. The worst, well, best, moments being when she'd lean over feigning critical assessment of your work when really she just wanted to be close.
By the end, she was decently satisfied with the forest landscape she’d painted. However, she felt it paled in comparison to the ocean sunset you’d crafted.
“I love your colours. And the little cabin you added is great,” you told her as you were both leaving, canvases in hand.
“Well good,” she said as she got to a clearing on the sidewalk and stopped to turn to you. “Consider it my gift to you,” she went on as she held it out to you.
“Jessie,” you said sweetly with a smile as you took it and looked it over more thoroughly. “That’s really sweet. Thank you. It’s beautiful. And bonus - I get my Jessie Fleming signature, but on a far rarer painting as opposed to a jersey,” you laughed. “And what a coincidence. I painted this for you.”
Jessie looked at you for a moment before a smile broke out across her face as she belatedly took the painting you held out.
“Thank you,” she said softly as she studied the image. She frowned in realization as she lifted her eyes to you. “Is this the same beach from our photo?”
You nodded. “It is. Nice eye.”
“Who knew you were so sentimental?” Jessie teased.
“Apparently not you,” you replied with a roll of your eyes, but gave a small laugh. “Come on. It’s been a while, but you know me better than that.”
Jessie was quiet for a moment as she took you in. She eventually nodded. “I know.”
A small lull fell over you both before you asked. “So, what now? Do you have to leave?”
“No.” Jessie spoke quickly with a shake of her head. “I don’t have anywhere to be. How about you?”
You shook your head in return. “Same. Well, it’s beautiful out tonight. Want to just go for a walk? We can drop these off at my car first,” you proposed as you held up the painting.
“Sure. Sounds great.”
After a short detour, you both began your stroll along the quiet, tree-lined street.
“Thanks for suggesting that class,” you said. “I don’t really get to paint or pursue creative hobbies as much anymore. It was nice to make a point of it. I can’t imagine you have much of an opportunity to focus on things like that anymore, hm?”
Jessie sighed quietly in contemplation and gave a shrug.
“Not extensively, no. But we do lots of team building, so sometimes we’ll do artsy things. And I can do hobbies and such in my down time, whether during the week or between seasons.”
She looked over to see you giving her a soft smile.
“What?” She asked.
“Nothing really. Just kind of crazy how everything turned out. You’ve achieved so much and your life is so impressive.”
Jessie was about to interject with a compliment for you, but you carried on.
“Are you happy with how things turned out?” You asked with a slight cock of your head.
“I-um, yeah.” Jessie stammered slightly, caught off guard by your question. “I mean, yeah it’s been incredible. More amazing than I could’ve ever pictured. And I know I’m very lucky.”
“You’re not lucky, Jess. You’ve worked exceptionally hard.”
She huffed lightly. “Yes, but luck is involved too. Lots of people work hard and still don’t get half the opportunities I’ve had.”
“I suppose,” you relented. “But you’ve made the most of those opportunities and haven’t taken them for granted.”
“That’s true. But look at you. You’ve worked so hard. And I know what you’ve been up against, but you’ve risen above and built a great life for yourself,” Jessie emphasized.
“Thank you,” you accepted with a half smile. Jessie knew the ins and outs of your family dynamics - something few people truly knew. You smiled more fully at her. “And look at us now. We both left LA and then found ourselves in the same city again and got to reconnect,” you finished with a laugh. "It sounds strange, but it really feels like in some ways like no time has passed. Not really, anyway. Like you and I were able to pick up where we left off."
You let out a quick sigh, giving a deep shrug as you did so. Your eyes remained trained on the ground as you two walked. "I mean, we talked the other week about my family and it just felt so different. Like, I've told recent friends or girlfriends my history and everything, and they listen and they 'get it', but it's not the same. That conversation with you – via text, no less – had more depth and weight than any comparable conversation with my exes or current friends. You were there. You know it – and me, I guess - inside and out. And even if I retell things, it's just not the same."
Jessie nodded, watching you. It did feel like yesterday when she was sitting next to you on your bed, sobs wracking your body after one confrontation too many with your family. Normally, Jessie was so analytical and tentative about her physical contact with you, but the second you started crying she put her arms around you without hesitation and you leaned in, resting your head on your shoulder as she held you. That was the first time, but it wasn't the last.
Looking back on it, maybe your girlfriends did have good reason to dislike her.
"I know what you mean," she told you. "It's different. I mean, it's the same with you in a lot of ways. You were there for me during some critical points – big decisions in my life and you understood who I was and who I wanted to be."
You smiled at her fondly. You looked ready to say something and Jessie waited. A moment passed and you exhaled, saying, "It really meant a lot – having you in my life and the support you gave me back then. I hope you know that."
"I know," Jessie accepted with a smile of her own. "And likewise."
Her mind drifted. She should probably just leave things be, but not speaking her mind is what held her back all those years before. She needed to share her thoughts and feelings if things were going to be different this time. She took a breath.
"You know, I was really shocked when we saw each other here." She paused briefly. "I don't know. We hadn't talked in so long. I think I'd relegated myself to assuming we'd never see each other or ever talk again. Despite how important we were to one another at some point."
Her statement seemed to give you pause, the mild surprise evident on your face. You eventually glanced down at the street as you two continued to walk.
"Yeah. That's true, I guess," you conceded, your voice soft.
Jessie studied you, unsatisfied with the response you gave. She pushed.
"I knew we wouldn't be able to stay as close as we were. That was inevitable with us living so far away from one another, but I don't think I expected contact to fall apart as quickly as it did." You didn't reply right away and she went on with an ironic laugh. "We went from talking all day every day, to a few times a week with a video call scattered in there, to the odd message every couple of weeks, then just texts on birthdays and at Christmas, to nothing at all."
She wasn't sure what she was anticipating, but she didn't expect you to turn to her with a perplexed frown.
"Yeah. It did taper off pretty quickly."
Despite the time that'd passed, Jessie still knew when you were telling half-truths. She gave a bit of an empty chuckle. "What else are you thinking?"
You returned her laugh with a mild look. "I don’t know. I'm just kind of confused, I suppose." Jessie frowned.
"About what?" She questioned. Faint alarm bells went off in her head when you stopped walking. She stilled her movements as well and you turned to one another on the sidewalk.
You took a moment to gather your thoughts. You spoke with a smile that didn't quite reach your eyes.
"I know it was me who stopped replying right away to messages – I don't deny that – but you weren't exactly giving me a lot to work with." You took a breath, dropping your shoulders before you spoke further. "Honestly? It was kind of feeling one-sided. Yeah, you replied, but a lot of your replies were brief and noncommittal. And when I asked if everything was okay you just told me you were busy. Which," you let out a slightly rueful laugh, "is absolutely fair. You were building this brand new, big life. Which is exactly what you were supposed to do. I don't begrudge you at all. I don’t know." You shrugged and averted your gaze momentarily. "I guess things just started to feel off."
Jessie exhaled quietly as she processed your reply. What you were saying wasn't false. It had been so long it was easy for Jessie to just recall the end result – that you'd stopped replying altogether. That you'd given up on her; on the connection you'd both built for years.
Standing here now though, if she was honest with herself, it was true that Jessie grew distant in her messages - purposefully so - knowing it would drive you away. What was she supposed to do? You two were never going to be together. And being friends was so incredibly hard sometimes because it was never just friendship for her. There was always this bittersweet feeling to everything and now that you were on completely different paths, there was an inevitable conclusion. Yet, she struggled to cut herself off cold. So instead, she took the coward's way out.
Jessie scratched the back of her head. "I was busy," she repeated. She contemplated doubling down, but thought better of it. "And I guess I was finding it hard. We were building two very different lives."
There was so much more she wanted to say, but she couldn't. What would be the point? Her chest panged when you gave her a sad smile.
"I know," you accepted with a sadness in your eyes. "And I really wanted that for you. I just - it was hard to not feel like a nuisance. Like some obligation. So I just stopped writing."
Jessie's frown deepened. She knew all those years ago that she had to be hurting you, but she could lie to herself about it and focus selfishly on herself. Seeing you talk about it in front of her wasn't something she'd anticipated.
"I didn't mean for that," Jessie said. "And I never stopped caring about you," she compromised.
"Yeah. I never stopped caring about you, either," you reciprocated in a subdued manner. Despite her role in everything, Jessie was still harbouring hurt from all those years prior and she felt compelled to push on. Sure, she'd pushed you away, but you'd let her. She erased you from her life little by little, day by day and you allowed it.
"Funny how quickly things change sometimes," Jessie went on. She didn't mean to scoff, but she did. "You didn't even tell me when you and [y/ex] broke up. You didn't even tell me you were having problems."
In years past, Jessie was your sounding board for all your girl troubles. She remembered it well – it was painful. Having to hear you either swoon or – more often – complain about your girlfriends. Hearing how they disappointed or frustrated you when Jessie knew she could love you better. Just thinking back to it stoked a fire in Jessie's chest again. While she had genuinely loved you and cared about your well-being, she'd vowed to never get stuck in that dynamic again.
You cracked a smirk. "It just seemed frivolous to bother you with something like that at that point."
Another pang in Jessie's chest. "Well," she kicked idly at the concrete beneath her, "I would've been there for you if you ever needed me. I hope you knew that."
You sighed and gave a hollow laugh as you pushed your hair back, causing Jessie to get momentarily distracted by the way the rays from the street light hit your face.
"I know," you said quietly before meeting her gaze. "And I hope you knew the same about me. I know you're surrounded by people who love you, but," you shrugged listlessly, "I'd be there for you, too."
Before Jessie could respond you gave her another smirk.
"Besides. Though you never said anything explicit, I know you didn't like her. And by the end I could see why, too. No point wasting any of our limited conversation talking about her."
Jessie bit back a smirk, but knew her eyes betrayed her. "Well, I guess that's poetic. Your girlfriends never liked me and I never liked them."
Despite the mounting tension in your conversation, you laughed and gave her a nod. Jessie didn't return your laugh though. She gave you a solemn look.
"You always deserved better than them. I know some of them were just fine, some of them even good, but they didn't seem earnest enough and they didn't love you enough."
You were taken aback by her sudden proclamation. You opened your mouth to speak, but couldn't find the words.
Jessie never understood how they didn't worship the ground you walked on. She practically did, even if she didn't show it. While those girls showed they cared through superficial acts like a generic bouquet of flowers, Jessie listened. In many ways. It was obvious to Jessie that they didn't really get you – not the way she did. And if they were so in tune with you, then why was it her you came to when things were hard or you were scared or even hopeful. If she'd been your girlfriend, she would've given you everything you needed and more. They clearly didn't.
You eventually gave a soft huff and offered Jessie a quiet smile.
"You've always been very observant. And very thoughtful. I get it now. There's a reason I'm single now. I don't want to settle anymore," you told her.
Jessie was quiet before giving a nod of acceptance.
"I'm glad to hear that."
You both started walking again, though neither of you spoke right away. There was still a heaviness in the air, but it felt different now; hopeful.
"I'm sorry for how things ended," you said as she glanced over at Jessie as you two strolled through the quiet street. "You've always been really important to me – regardless of whether we were in contact or not. I don't want to say that I wish things had been different, because I really don't see the point in regretting anything, but I will say I'm very grateful that we've had this chance to reconnect and rebuild." You paused. "I've really missed you. I didn't realize how much."
"I'm really sorry, too," Jessie said, a smile spreading across her face. "And I agree – we can't change the past, but I also appreciate the chance to be friends again. I've missed you, too."
She swallowed as she contemplated whether to add more. The lull that naturally formed told her to forge ahead.
"And you were never a nuisance or an obligation. I'm really sorry it came across that way."
"Awww, Jessie," you said in a teasing voice, lifting your conversation up again. You paused your steps and Jessie stopped and turned to you in question. "Come on," you beckoned as you waved her over and brought out your phone. "We need a new photo together."
Jessie didn't fight it. Instead, she smiled at you and walked over to stand next to you. You leaned into her and Jessie found her hand naturally gravitated to your waist. It rest there before Jessie could even realize it, but before she could fret, you looked back at her with a smile before facing forward again.
You took the photo and immediately opened up your messages with Jessie to send it to her. Jessie belatedly realized her hand was still on you and she pulled it back, holding her hands behind her.
"There," you announced. "Now we can start rebuilding our collection. Portland memories – not just UCLA anymore."
Jessie laughed and held up her phone, pointing the camera at you.
"No, come on," you whined immediately and she laughed further.
"Hey, this is part of the deal," she countered. You huffed, but eventually smiled for her. "Just remember. This goes both ways. I get new photos of you, too."
She found herself giving you a wink. "I'll allow it."

Okay, Hades 2!
Supergiantgames does it again. It’s still Early Access, but it has more polish and content than a lot of fully released games on its price point and higher. Of course, all this content would not matter if it wasn’t good. It’s good. From gameplay to voice acting to sound design to music to graphics and visual elements, Hades 2 is airtight. There’s one exception we’ll discuss, but otherwise, it’s incredibly well crafted.
So far, there’s only one instance in the game I can say needs some important improvements: The second phase of the Tartarus boss, Chronos, who is an end boss. Not in terms of difficulty, mind you, it’s in terms of visual clarity: There’s so many lights and particle effects that making out what’s up can be frustrating, especially when Chronos hits you anywhere from 20~ to 35 damage, or, you know, his 1000 damage practical instakill. The instakill is HEAVILY telegraphed and easy to deal with, almost trivial, but in the concerto of lights and fireworks, it’s possible to miss one or two seconds of Going To The Don’t Die space and getting mulched. That’s not a big problem, it’s just a user experience issue that you just internalize after a few tries and some short term frustration. What IS an issue is Chronos using the Liu Kang flying kick from midst an incomprehensible mishmash of light graphics and taking out 25 HP plus forcing you to reposition in a fight that’s quite lengthy and in a game that’s stingy with its HP.
They don’t need to meddle with his difficulty! They just need to make the second phase easier to parse. It’s a great fight otherwise.
On the Melinoë end of things, some boons and weapons feel like they could use a touch-up: The Torches let you keep shooting while you dodge and move (movement speed reduced), for example, and you NEED to keep shooting to activate Omega Attack which is what actually does damage. But it’s a big commitment because now your defense option is also doubly important as your main movement tool AND your i-frames. This is all really cool! Except the damage does not at all make up for it in a game where the Torches’ linear nature hurt it more than help it, as enemies don’t line up and instead go around each other or otherwise have specialized movement and attack options. The Axe, with its wide sweeps, does pretty much all the Torches want to do, with a lot more damage and less risk. The Aspects of the Torches would try to help: Moros can be nifty, but the ghosts the Moros Torches shoot are physical objects to each other, so they pile up and soon your shots just collide with each other and don’t reach the enemy. It’s a constant tug o’ war with detonating them with Special, which, again, fun, but you have to set up real Hellzone Grenades before they are truly damaging. Basically, a ton of effort for damage I can easily get more safely and easily with other Arms. Which I hope they address, because I like the Torches.
Hestia’s boon is a bit underwhelming, but that’s expected from the DoT build, those are always the hardest to balance. Dionysius in Hades 1 was really strong. Hestia here has potential but ultimately falls off hard because no matter how much you build, it always ticks at 40 per second. That’s very low DPS for Boons that otherwise add no Attack%. With Sister Blades, I can rack up 600 Scorch and it’s still better if I grab Aphrodite instead and do that much damage in a few attacks instead.
And you know what you are seeing here in these paragraphs? Very easily tweaked things in a game in Early Access by a developer known to deliver. I am not worried at all. This game kicks ass.

WIBTA for suggesting my girlfriend eats less?
(🫠 so i can find it later)
I know immediately it sounds insane but please I need advice. Also sorry it’s so long this is a sensitive topic and I want to treat it as such.
So my (24F) girlfriend (22F) has been trying to lose weight for about 9 months now. I let her offer up what info she wants but never ask because I don’t want to add pressure, and i’ve struggled with an ED and witnessed as my mom has struggled with her weight since I was born so I understand how hard it can be. But my girlfriend is as gorgeous as ever. And I know she’s been as active as possible so Idk why she’s so hard on herself.
My mom eats healthier than anyone I’ve ever known. When I was younger I watched her go through phases with taking on some weird diet that never really worked. She once told me she recognized her real problem is stopping when she’s “full” and not what she eats. She was insecure about that fact because she almost starved as a teenager. I tried to encourage her to accept her body if eating what she wants makes her happy. But she always says she isn’t happy when she’s not eating & only would be if she felt “sexy” again.
I’m starting to see a similar struggle in my love. She asked to go to the gym together, so I bought us a gym membership. We try to get there 3x a week for at least an hour each time. But she’s in her final semester before graduating so we stopped going as much about a month or two ago. She keeps talking about losing weight so her graduation dresses will fit better but I think they fit perfect. I zipped them myself. She never wears dresses or skirts, favoring baggy clothing and streetwear, so I think she’s just not used to the sensation of a form-fitting dress.
She joined a coed soccer team that would meet weekly for a month. I went to her games, she goes hard. She’s also started going for runs twice a week after work with a coworker. They did 3 miles one day! That’s still 3 days a week she’s been working out, plus the occasional day or two every other week we manage to get out to the gym.
She has taken to blaming me for us not going to the gym, not directly but will whine at me with a pointed tone, as if begging me to go to the gym after she told me we couldn’t go. I try to ignore it since I know she’s having a hard time and mostly venting. But if I agree and offer to drive us, she always has too much homework. Even if she’s been sitting on tiktok for an hour.
I do all the cooking for us. After she complained about not making progress I started serving us both smaller portions. Now she gets seconds after meals and will complain about being snackish or wanting a sweet treat less than 30 minutes after we’ve ate. If I stand firm on no treats (which is rare), she pouts. She refuses to get a treat without me, if I tell her she can go get one if she wants she won’t. If I give in, then later I feel guilty like I enabled her. And she’ll guilt trip me for it too. And then she’s unhappy about not losing any weight again and the cycle continues.
She’s got a broad build and a naturally curvy body. When she talks about being her ideal size/shape again, it’s always in photos of her at 14-17. I keep trying to instill in her that she can get muscular and fit but still might not look like that again because she was a child. She dismisses me every time and will compare her body to mine since we’re the same height, but I have different genetics and an overactive metabolism.
She’s active, healthy, muscular, and is maybe 30 lbs over the BMI for her height and age. I don’t believe in the BMI, just stating for reference reasons. Some of that “overweight” is definitely likely muscle since she said she gained weight after we first started going to the gym. She would not believe me when I said you gain muscle before you lose fat, even though she’s learned this in her major. In my eyes to have the kind of toning that she wants— and that athletes her shape have— she probably only needs to lose like 10-15 lbs. You can see the line of musculature on her thighs as she is. She eats way healthier than most college students because she’s a medical major and really cares about body health. I think a lot of her desire to lose weight comes from the athleticism of the PT’s she works with.
She continues to nitpick at her other behaviors (i.e. having a yasso icecream twice a week) that are far less “harmful” to her goals than overeating. But I fear it will cause a rift in our relationship if I try to suggest that to her.
I want to help her on her journey and the way she blames me makes me feel like I need to do more to help, but the only thing I can think to suggest is something I would never recommend on my own, let alone to my girlfriend who I think is beautiful as is. I don’t want her to think by me suggesting smaller portions that I have a problem with her perceived lack of progress. I only have a problem with being treated like it’s my fault she isn’t losing weight. When I tell her she looks amazing as she is she just tells me I’m biased because I love her.
I don’t feel it’s my place but Idk what else to do. So WIBTA if I told her that she should try to eat smaller portions rather than dieting since she’s already physically active and eats healthy?

'studying' w jake -requested
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
tw// make out, suggestive, it's just kisses
jake is a sweethear. he is always willing to help others and never failed to make other's lives easier. and that only got intensified when you came around. you don't even need to voice your needs, jake would always be there for you. but once he is looking too munch at you, his pretty baby, his boyfriend duties will stop. so studying with jake always goes the same : he will help you w your homeworks then lose himself in you and finally he would try to steal your attention, and, obviously he always succeed, ending up to kiss you.
he was so happy when you texted him expressing your dismay towards ur physics studies, and he would come to your rescue, wanting to help you. and as he always wants to be with you and is always willing to be good for you, he would arrive, full of excitement, imaginary tail waving, hi baby, thank you for calling me, he would say giving you a quick peck before entering your apartment. he would sit next to youur stationary on your desk, waiting for you to sit.
as he started to help/teach you your studies, he was really focus on your understanding and your upcoming exams, but as times passed by, and seeing your pretty focused face, he couldn't help but be pulled by you. he couldn't care less about whatever you guys were doing, he just wanted his attention to be on you n yours on him. so he would give u a hard problem so that he can taste the waters, knowing if it possible to steal you from your studies and so he can stare at you. the sight of seeing you being so hardworking, understanding so fast n so well that you can do a whole new exercice, is so hot to him. your furrowed eyebrows and your pickered soft lips, would make him so dizzy. but the worst for him would be you playing around with your pen, putting it near your lips, a motion that display your focus. that single movement turn something in him and he wouldn't wait anymore time.
as you finished your exercise, you'd show the paper to him w happy words coming from your mouth. he wouldn't listen to you nor look away from your lips, them being hypnotizing to his weak mind. his body works in automatic, only needing you, taking the paper away from your hands. i'm so proud of you, baby he murmur sensually, i knew you could do it, my smart smart girl, he would add, then taking your now free hand forcefully leading you on his lap. you could try to protest, telling him he only came to help you study but he'd show you your well done exercice back, so for what reason would he let you off ? can i get a kiss from my smart pretty girl ?ᩚ just one and i'll let you finish, i promise, he'd say smile shamelessly lying, before leaning it with a slow kiss. he'd have his hands on your waist, keeping himself steady from. during your small makeout w him he would talk you thru it you're so hot when you focus do you know that, baby ? or my smart little princess. after showering you with kisses and hot words, he'd stop mid make out, successfully getting your attention. of course it hasn't enough for him but he wants you to want him, so he would give you another problem, not even caring about your current state, you still facing him. go ahead baby, you still have your exam soon, we can't have you taking too munch break umh ? he would tease you, putting s stray if your hair behind your ear. you obsviouky cant focus anymore, feeling his body underneath you n his hands still strocking you in allthe places he wants. he knows what he is doing and if he is rralky in a teasing mood he would kiss your neck. can't do the exercice baby ? is something bothering you ?, you we're doing so well earlier, what happened ? he would say w faux honnesty. he knows he wons you over your studies and will have you as he wishes.
if he isn't in the teasing mood and is just bored, he wouldn't let it pass too, finding that you've studied enough. baby could we cuddle ? he would bluntly ask not caring after ur successful attempt on doing his exercise. if you say no, n that you still need to study, tho you don't, he would just stare at you, giving you his puppy eyes paired w his adorable pout. that would only last minutes, his patience running low n his needs running high, before he'd ask you again please baby, you don't need to study anymore, his head hanging low on your shoulder, you're puppy is missing you words shining of neediness. if u can hankde his puppy eyes or his whines, he would level up, his face coming further into your neck, finally strating to take what he wants. please my love, i miss you, he murmurs, his hot breath hitting the crook if ur nap. he would also staring kissing you there, his hand softly stroking your arm reaching your hand. and finally, when he realizes you're not fighting against his temptation by letting him removing the pen in your hand, he would make you look at him, haven't i been good to you for you to just cuddle me ?

Warnings: angst, r is shot, fluffy comfort and soft Tim at the end
Word Count: 1.7k+ words
Masterlist | Tim Bradford Masterlist | Request Info/Fandom List
Tumblr media
“I’ll catch up,” you tell Tim.
He nods once and tunes out Lucy as she walks beside him. The bullpen is crowded because of a busy day in Los Angeles, but you have something more important on your mind.
“Angela, can we talk?” you ask as you approach her desk.
“Of course,” she answers. “Is everything okay? Baby okay?”
“Yeah, yeah, we’re good.” You lay your hand over your not yet existent bump and smile. “I’m ready to tell Tim, but I want to surprise him with the pregnancy announcement. He’s not… conventional, right? So, I just wanted to ask if you had any ideas for how I can tell him, how I can make it special?”
“Not conventional is certainly a good description of Tim Bradford,” Angela agrees playfully. “Honestly, you know better than I do what he’d consider to be special. I think you should tell him sooner rather than later.”
You nod and look over your shoulder toward Tim. He deserves a memorable announcement; it’s his first child and he’s going to be an amazing father, so you want to make sure he knows that.
“Blue and pink target practice,” Angela suggests. “Nothing like a gun range jump scare.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.”
Wade yells your name, and you thank Angela before you return to the crowd of police officers. He says your name again before he adds, “Bradford, Nolan, and Chen, we’ve got a domestic call off Wilshire. Take care of that and get back here. ACH!”
“Anything can happen,” Lucy murmurs. “But it’s never fun.”
“ACHBINF,” Nolan agrees.
“Are you okay?” Tim asks as he falls into step beside you.
“Yeah, I’m good. Love this time of year when we have to send two cops to a call and two cops to protect the others,” you reply.
“Hey, what’s it like being married?” Lucy asks as you enter the garage.
“Depends on the marriage,” Nolan answers. “Why? Are you getting married?”
“Not today,” Lucy answers. “Just curious.”
“Nolan’s right,” Tim agrees. “It depends on the marriage.”
“I love being married,” you tell her. “But it’s nothing to rush into.”
“I just want to meet someone,” Lucy groans. “And you guys are no help.”
“Yeah, I married my partner,” you say, winking at Tim.
“And Nolan’s divorced,” Tim points out.
“Okay!” you announce. “Before this gets worse and turns into a competition of who has or had the better marriage – because it’s me and Tim – we need to go.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Lucy agrees. “ACHBINF.”
Tim grunts as he slams the car door, and you smile. As long as that isn’t his response to your pregnancy announcement, you’re amused by his grumpiness.
Tumblr media
“There’s nobody here,” Tim says as he looks through a dirty window.
“This is the address. They said they were watching the argument from across the street,” you explain. “So, it’s either a setup or a prank.”
“Bradford!” Nolan calls as he moves out of the yard. “There’s a black SUV moving slowly toward us.”
“Tell dispatch, and get through to Grey,” Tim demands. “Stay down.”
You move with Tim, staying low as you move toward the shop. The black SUV is several houses away, but it only rolls a foot or so before it stops for thirty seconds, then moves again.
“Option 3, someone’s trying to steal a stick shift and can’t drive it,” you joke.
“It’s never that easy,” Tim replies.
“ACHBINF?” you ask.
“Don’t,” Tim murmurs as he watches the car. “We need to make contact before they get close enough to do something.”
“I can go through yards and come up behind them.”
“No, we don’t know what the back looks like. Nolan, where are you and Chen?”
“Behind the shop,” Nolan answers. “On the other side of the street from you.”
“Stay in position,” Tim radios.
A shot fires somewhere nearby, but it echoes so you can’t tell where it originated from.
“The car’s a distraction,” you and Tim say together.
“Backup is two minutes out,” Lucy calls over the radio. “We don’t have time!”
“I’m shooting at the SUV,” Tim tells you. “Cover me.”
You trade places with Tim and press your back to the shop as you cover him. Before you can alert Tim of movement beside the house you were called to, someone fires again. You feel the sting of the bullet against your vest but rise to your knees and return fire. Tim notices your movement and lowers beside you. When the shooter drops his gun and tips back, Tim rushes to him as Lucy and Nolan run to stop the black SUV. You lean back against the shop and run your hand over your uniform. It’s tinted red with blood when you pull it back, and you gently press your fingers against your side. The bullet missed your vest by less than an inch, and your first thought is that the bullet may have gone in sideways.
“No, no, no,” you whisper as you press your hands to your lower stomach.
With the pressure, your bleeding increases with nothing to stop it. Tim rounds the corner of the house with the shooter in handcuffs but pushes him to the ground when he sees you. You’re losing blood quickly, and Tim sees your hands in the wrong place, which immediately concerns him. If you didn’t tell him you were shot and are causing it to bleed more, you must be in shock or hemorrhaging.
“Nolan, get over here!” Tim radios.
He kneels beside you and presses his hands to your side as you try to force a hand under your vest.
“Get me an ambulance!” Tim demands. “Officer down!”
“Tim, I’m pregnant,” you blurt out. “You have to make sure the baby is okay.”
Tim shakes his head and tells you to stay calm. Nolan loads the shooter into the back of his shop and tells Tim the ambulance is approaching.
“Promise you’ll make sure the baby’s okay,” you repeat.
She doesn’t know what she’s talking about, Tim thinks. That thought only increases his worry because you’re losing blood and not making any sense.
“What happened?” the paramedic asks as he approaches your side.
“GSW to her side,” Tim replies.
Your eyes flutter closed as they wrap your side, and you don’t mention ‘the baby’ again. Tim asks the paramedic which hospital you are going to and follows your ambulance in his shop. As he drives, he wonders where the “I’m pregnant” announcement came from. It’s something he wants but hearing it because you were losing blood causes his hands to shake. He reminds himself to focus and control his emotions as he parks and runs into the emergency room entrance.
Tumblr media
“Office Bradford?” a doctor asks.
“Yes, sir,” Tim responds as he stands. “How is she?”
“She’s perfectly fine. The bullet was through and through with very little tissue damage, so we cleaned and stitched the wound, and she’ll be free to go after some observation. And the baby is perfectly safe as well, Officer.”
“Baby?” Tim repeats. “She’s pregnant?”
“Oh, I’m sorry, I assumed you knew. Yes, sir, she’s about seven weeks pregnant. You can go in if you’d like.”
“Thank you.”
The short walk to your room feels like a marathon, and Tim’s mind races with each step. You should have told Tim; you have a dangerous job, and he needs to know. Tim takes a deep breath before he opens the door and steps into your room.
“You really meant that,” he says.
You look up and tug your bottom lip between your teeth before you release it to speak. “Yeah, I did. I wanted to surprise you, and I was going to do it later today, but… you know.”
“You have to tell me this stuff,” Tim says gently. “I didn’t know. And I- if something had happened, I wouldn’t have known. I’m supposed to keep you safe, but I can’t do that if I don’t know.”
“I’m sorry,” you apologize. “Surprise?”
Tim rolls his eyes as he takes your hand. He lays your joined hands over your stomach, avoiding your stitches.
“I was terrified,” you whisper. “There wasn’t a way to tell where it went, and if I’d lost-“
Tim shushes you gently and sits on the edge of your bed. He moves a hand to your jaw and brushes his thumb over your cheek.
“I get it. The doctor told me the baby was fine, and it suddenly crashed down on me. That fear that I could’ve lost something I didn’t know I had hit me, even after I knew you were both okay.”
You nod and turn your chin. Tim kisses you softly, and you whisper another apology against his lips.
“What do you need?” he asks.
“A hug, mostly,” you say lightly.
“I was hoping you’d say you were ready to get out of here.”
“Oh, we’re both very ready to get out of here,” you agree.
Tumblr media
Tim helps you get comfortable on the couch after you arrive home, and you twirl your wedding ring around your finger. He returns a moment later, and when you pull your knees up to give him room to sit beside you, he huffs. Carefully, he lifts your ankles and lays your legs back in your original, comfortable position. Tim lays with you rather than sitting beside you, and you happily turn into his arm. He drags his fingertips along your spine, over your shoulders, and back down. His other hand lays against your side, and he drops his hand to where your baby is growing.
“You’re getting soft,” you murmur.
“Just for you two. And we both need this,” he replies.
“I have an appointment next week, and I want you to be there.”
“I’ll be right here,” he promises. “Can’t trust you to tell me anything important,” he jokes.
You try to push him away, but Tim grabs your wrists and carefully pulls you with him as he rolls. He barely manages to catch both himself and you as he nearly falls off the couch.
“Surprise?” he asks, repeating your earlier comment.
He kisses you before you can say anything else, and when his hands wander to your stomach, you know that you were right about what a great father he will be.

Full hcs for the m6 with an MC that has chronic pain (I looked through the masterlists and didn't find anything, but it's totally possible that I missed something O///O)
The Arcana HCs: MC with chronic pain
Julian
He devotes his full care and attention to every person in need of a doctor he meets and you are about to get 200% of that
Will do a full examination as soon as you're able to talk to him about it. Give him your medical history, past diagnoses, personal opinions, potential causes, and any other detail you have
Listens to every word, writing them all down so intensely that his handwriting is even less legible than usual
In the moment, there's not much he can do beyond suggesting a few alternate ways of handling it and covering you with kisses and careful, all-encompassing sympathetic hugs
In the long run, chronic pain starts to rival (if not surpass) hematology as his field of study and expertise. Pain management does get easier over time as he learns and applies more
It has also changed how he speaks about pain
The earliest example of which was when he told you that he was "intimately acquainted" with it and you misinterpreted that as him saying that he suffers from it too - you still tease him for that
Your biggest medical advocate & never loses sympathy for you
Asra
They didn't really know how much you suffered from it until your first weeks back, and then they watched as you had to relearn how to live with it. To call it nightmarish would be an understatement
So, so, so many pain easing spells and potions. His collection was already impressive for Nadia's migraines but now it's tripled
Curious to the point of almost seeming insensitive about the sensations you experience. They did, with your permission, try linking to you enough to take them on once
He didn't like it. He can handle physical discomfort well enough but he hates it with a passion and this was a horrible realization
Thoughtful and protective of your right to comfort and access to accommodation, to the point that you sometimes have to remind them that you really can handle it
Asks you every morning and through the day how your pain levels are and will adjust accordingly. Bad pain day? Leave the shop to him, here are some meds, he'll bring you breakfast in a bit
Has been known to use pain transfer spells on rude customers during your flareups - it's two birds with one stone!
Nadia
Had a hunch that it was something you experienced from the moment she met you, if only because she was dealing with constant migraines at the time and recognized the pain
Does her best to hide it from you because she doesn't want to make your pain about herself, but gets frustrated beyond measure about it. She's a fixer, and this is something she can't just fix
She does everything she can for you, of course - opening the Palace doors to anyone with knowledge on the subject, stocking up and giving you access to all of her pain management methods
But it still gnaws at her when she knows you're having a bad pain day and the most she can do is encourage you to rest and have your meals sent to you and try to get extra time to spend with you
Even more proud of you than you can tell (which is very proud). Living in pain the way you do is no easy thing and that pain being largely "invisible" only adds to what you must be going through
Very respectful of your needs. It doesn't matter if she doesn't understand why you need something right away, if you need it, you need it
Muriel
It's not something he'll confess to until you're close enough and he's comfortable admitting it, but he has his own chronic pain from his Coliseum injuries. It's not constant, but it flares up regularly
A poorly healed fracture in his wrist. Some mangled nerve endings from blunt force trauma to his ribs. A wrenched knee that never fully healed and keeps coming back like a sprain
There's another layer to the days he spends hiding in bed, lifting nothing heavier than his tiny carving tools
He never really got much medical attention when the injuries were fresh and he certainly hasn't gotten any for the pain since, but he'll share all the knowledge on natural medicine he has
And nobody knows how physical pain can get into your head like he does. He doesn't always know what to say, but he is dedicated to listening when you're struggling and helping where he can
A little slower at accepting support for his own pain (it's months, if not years, before he's comfortable with being seen for it by a doctor) but he's with you every step of the way. You're not alone
Portia
Portia is excruciatingly empathetic to you and this is not something easy for her to understand or relate to
Pain? Physical pain?? Which you can't control, or point to an obvious/visible/curable source for??? How do you not act like you're in constant pain? How have you not found a cure?
(To say that she cringes when she remembers peppering you with these questions is an understatement. What matters is that she learned and she never doubted you for a second)
She still has difficulty fully comprehending what you're going through, but once she's dragged you to her brother and gotten some action items to follow up with, supporting you gets easier
Checks in with you several times a day on schedule and keeps a list of useful questions to ask so she can understand your pain levels
Always has at least two pain meds on hand in case of a spike or flare up and will scour the markets for any ingredients that she hears will help with pain/nerve damage/inflammation
Will bring Pepi to loaf and purr on you for hours when you need to stay in bed for the day and leaves treats on the bedside table
Lucio
He relates to this more than he wants to, but his own experience is so all over the place he doesn't know how to talk about it
Sure, he had chronic pain when he was a count, it's hard to have an emergency amputation done by an inexperienced student and then a decently weighty metal prosthetic for 20 years without it
But back then he had plenty of doctors and the kinds of resources to make managing it almost easy, not to mention the parties and pleasures he indulged in constantly to distract from it
And then for three years he felt nothing - nothing at all
At this point, he'd choose the pain over the ghost form any day, but that doesn't make it easy. Hearing you talk about your pain openly helps him realize it's possible to live with, even though it's difficult
So that's what he does. He'll live with his pain, and you'll live with your pain, and you'll both wake up to it with each other for company. He can do this
He'll still go as far as threatening any medical experts he finds with their demise if they refuse to see either of you and you're not there to stop him, though

To Eddie it was a usual Saturday movie night around Steve's until it wasn't. Well there was the usual suspects Robin, Nancy, Jonathan and the kids but there was someone new, someone he'd only heard them talk about in passing but now she was here.
He'd managed to wait until after the first movie when she'd gone to help Nancy in the kitchen after the pizza delivery. "So what's her deal? How come she just shows up out of the blue? I mean it's a small town, everyone knows everyone but I've never heard of her until you all mentioned her" he asks, trying to keep his voice low so she can't hear.
"Jeez calm down, there's more to her than meets the eye in fact you are both probably more alike than you think" Robin reveals which leaves Eddie with even more questions, questions that he doesn’t get to ask as she and Nancy enter the room with the food.
They all make it through another movie before Eddie stands up declaring he needs a smoke break. "Anyone joining me?" He asks to which everyone declines. Shrugging his shoulders, Eddie turns and heads through to the kitchen towards the back door.
"Actually I think I could use a bit of fresh air" she says to no one in particular, pushing up off the couch and stretching her body out.
"But you don't smoke" Nancy pipes up.
"And is it really fresh air if your just inhaling second hand smoke?" Mike adds with a roll of his eyes.
Max clearly sensing what was going on reaches over and smacks Mike upside his head. She shoots the younger girl a grateful smile and follows the way Eddie went just moments earlier.
She cracks the door open as quietly as she can, not wanting to scare Eddie. Though it doesn't seem like it would have mattered anyway, he's sitting on one of the sun loungers over by the pool staring up into the sky at the stars overhead.
"They're so much prettier out here" she says softly as she joins him, taking a seat on the sun lounger next to him. Eddie doesn't flinch, she guesses he heard her coming, only hums in response as he takes another drag from his cigarette. "I used to love coming out here as a kid, life's so much slower than in the big city, you know you wouldn't find anyone just sitting around stargazing but then again there's too much light there so you can't really see the stars" she doesn't know why she's telling him this, her mouth running away with her as she settles back into the seat.
They sit in silence as Eddie finishes his cigarette, dropping it in the ashtray he had the foresight to bring out with him. He eyes her up as he turns, trying to work out what to say next without seeming too prying but when she turns towards him having sensed his gaze he decides to just go for it. "So how did you even become friends with them?"
She blinks at him, processing the question and to be fair the topic had never been discussed and she could see where his curiosity was coming from considering she wasn't even from the town. "Nancy," she says finally, "we'd made friends when I used to visit when I was younger and then the rest of the group just kinda claimed me as one of the the last few years" she explained.
Eddie nodded with a smile as he relaxed back into the sun lounger. "Makes sense, you and Nancy seem very alike" he comments, missing the way her nose scrunches in discontempt that he's already seems to have a made up image of her in his head when he doesn't even know her.
"We are alike but we're also not alike in the slightest" she informs him, not that there was anything wrong with being like Nancy, she was smart, pretty and fiercely protective of those she loves but at the same time she was also her own person, not Nancy.
"Coulda fooled me" he smirks, raising his brows in challenge to her to prove him wrong, "but then again the others seem to think the two of us have a lot in common" he adds, disbelief at the words written across his face.
"And they'd be right" she states, a smirk on her own face.
"Yeah, you take three times to graduate high school? Or are you a secret metalhead or something? Got some hidden tattoos you not showing?" He tries, all things that he doesn’t believe fit her.
"No," she replies without hesitation, causing Eddie to interrupt with a scoff, mumbling an 'I thought so' with a smug smile. "You didn’t let me finish," she huffs in frustration at his interruption, "I passed high school first time round, yes I listen to metal and yes I have tattoos" she finishes, feeling quite smug with herself in the way Eddie's now quiet, mouth hung open in disbelief.
"You-you" Eddie stutters at a loss for words, "can I see" he asks, referring to her tattoos.
"Are you asking me to strip? Jeez take a girl out to dinner first" she teases, just to see Eddie splutter some more. Call it payback for the misconception he had of her.
"Are you serious?" He asks, his face tinted red enough to see even in the fading light of the sun.
"About the tattoos, yes, about taking me out to dinner, no unless that's something you'd be interested in" she winks, enjoying the teasing and more so Eddie's reactions considering the loud and boisterous way he'd been so far tonight.
Eddie just stares at her, seemingly deciding what to say when Steve's voice comes from the back door, "are you too going to stay out there all night or can we put another movie on?" He sounds frustrated with the two of them but one look at his face tells them both that the anger is fake, he's probably just happy they're getting along.
She jumps up from the sun lounger, making her way towards the house without even looking if Eddie is following her but then Steve's question about if she's playing nice tells her that he hasn't. "Always" she promises with a sweet smile as she slides through the door and heads towards the rest of the group.
"Come on man" Steve urges as Eddie finally stands, only stopping when he gets to Steve. "Yeah I know, you'll get used to her" Steve chuckles, seeing the look of confusion and awe mixed into one on his face as he ushers him back inside to where the rest of the group were waiting.

The sound of shoes squeaking on the floor, the ball hitting the ground and various chants and screams grow louder as you get closer to the gym. You notice some more students watching the match by the stands and you join them. Your eyes quickly find Oikawa on the court, he’s about to serve. You know a little about volleyball thanks to Kenma and Akaashi, but when Oikawa jumps and hits the ball, air gets stuck in your lungs for a second. For the rest of the match you don’t seem to be able to move your eyes from his figure, you have no idea what is going on or where the ball is because your eyes are fixed on him only. The match doesn’t take long to end with Oikawa’s team victorious and you opt to wait for him outside.
Tumblr media
When you notice Oikawa making his way to you, you quicly shut down your phone and place it in your pocket.
‘Hey,’ he waves at you and smiles, ‘Ready to go?’
You hum and follow him.
‘Did you see a bit of the match?’ He asks you.
‘Yeah, you looked really cool,’ you blurt out before you could stop yourself. Your eyes dart to his face to see his reaction.
He’s a little surprise by it but soon hides it over a smug smile, ‘I bet.’
You scoff and start walking faster to hide your embarassment. You can hear Oikawa laughing as he walks up to you.
‘Aw don’t be shy,’ he fake pouts, ‘I would love to have you cheering on me for my next matches.’
Maybe it was better when you couln’t stand him because now everything he says isn’t just annoying anymore, but it makes you feel warm inside too.
‘What makes you think I want to see more of your matches,’ you say, ‘You looked cool but don’t get cocky now.’
‘Really cool, is what you said,’ he corrects you, ‘and you owe me one, so you’ll come to watch at least one more.’
‘You really want to use your one wish to make me watch you play?’
‘Why?’ he smirks, ‘Were you thinking of something different?’
It’s like you can see exactly what he’s picturing in his mind, ‘No! That’s not what I meant!’ You hit his arm, ‘Just you know, maybe you’d wanted to keep it for a more important favor or something.’
He turns the key and opens the door, ‘I was just teasing you, no need to get all bothered,’ he chuckles and lets you in.
Maybe it really was better when you would just argue all the time because now you’re not really sure how you’re going to survive all this.
Tumblr media
Oikawa comes back from the bathroom with his hair still wet, this time he sits next to you at the desk and your knees brush together. You can smell the lemon scent of his shampoo from how close he is.
‘Do you want to type?’ He asks pushing his laptot towards you.
‘Sure,’ you open the document and check where you left off the previous time, choosing to focus on the project rather than the man next to you. Not an easy task when said man keeps leaning into your side to check if what you’re typing is correct, or making his hand brush against yours as he keep reaching for things on your side of the desk. You’re pretty sure he’s doing that on purpose, either that or your mind decided today was the right day to make you pay more attention to this kind of things. You try your best to ignore his every movement and you finish the project rather quickly.
‘Too bad we’re done already,’ Oikawa says leaning back on his chair.
‘What do you mean?’
‘I’ll have to think about some new excuse to hang with you now.’
Panic takes over you again, ‘What, do you have a crush on me?’ You say, trying to protect your feelings and turning his flirting against him. Maybe that works because you swear the tips Oikawa’s ears are slightly pink and you find that really cute. ‘I’m just joking,’ you smile, ‘You have my number anyway, just text me when you want to see me.’
Oikawa hums, ‘About that,’ he grabs your phone, ‘I’m taking this for a moment,’ he winks at you and turns around to hide his doing.
‘Uh why?’ You’d rather die than have him seeing your texts with your friends where you freak out about him.
You try to peak behind his shoulder but he’s quick to get up, he puts a hand on your head to keep you away as he keeps tapping away on your phone.
You cross your arms, ‘What are you even doing?’
‘Aw, don’t worry your pretty head about it,’ he slides his hand down your hair and places it behind your neck, sending shivers down your spine, ‘I swear I’m not peeking through your stuff.’
That does nothing to calm you down but you let him do whatever anyway, leaning into his touch. When he’s done he puts your phone back on the table, ‘There,’ he leans in and gives you a sweet peck, ‘Do you want something to drink?’ He asks and walks towards the door, he waits there waiting for you to either say something or follow him to the kitchen.
You don’t do either of those. You sit there wondering if this is something you do now, are you friends that sometimes kiss? Are you something more?
Oikawa gets close to you again, ‘Are you alright?’
You don’t want him to worry, to care, to be sweet, if to him it’s really just a kiss. Though you have no right feeling like this when you were the first to say so, you still feel angry. You push those thoughts away, doing the exact opposite of what your friends keep telling you not to do.
You sigh, ‘I’m just tired, I guess.’
‘I could make you a coffee, if you want,’ Oikawa offers and you nod, ‘Come on,’ he hold out his hand for you to grab adn then he guides you to his kitchen.

Hi hello, I love your art so much LIKE MY BROTHER. IT'S SO YUMMY, THE SHADOWS THE EXPRESSIONS, I love how you draw Timur , Felwinter and Osiris together 🙏 little bird with his two funky adoptive parents. I stare at your art like , I'm always ready and hyped to give traditional art another try ✨
If I was to go back, any tips for which watercolours to pick? I so far got only aniline colours.
Aah, thank you so much!! 😳💙
Hmmm, the thing is, I use fountain pen inks almost always for painting. I don't use watercolour much, so I can't really suggest anything in particular… I have a selection of colours from different brands, of course, I know quite a lot about pigments, and I like using watercolour from time to time to add some special effects to my works. For sketching outdoors it's also the easiest to use among all other paints, probably. But painting a whole artwork with it……… I try doing it sometimes, but every single time I end up thinking "God, I wish I used inks instead, I hate this so much, why is it so BLEURGH". I guess watercolour just isn't my medium 😂
I can share my thinking process when building up a palette though, I use it with all mixable mediums I use, be it inks, watercolour, gouache, etc. I found it to be the most effective (and money-saving, lol) approach for me.
So what I want for my main mixing palette is to have 3 sets of primary trios. All colours also must be as smooth as possible, with no surprises or unwanted colour separation. For watercolour - not granulating ones.
Tumblr media
(my camera tends to make all colours brighter and also fails to see the subtle difference between some shades, but you can still get the idea)
The first trio is extremely vivid, consisting of bright cool colours - lemon yellow, cyan, magenta-leaning pink. It gives you access to all the bright, open colours.
Tumblr media
Second is the classic they teach in all art schools (probably, from what I've heard, I never went into one alkjdshfk) - sunshine yellow, bright warm red and ultramarine blue. This gives you a huge selection of warmer, natural colours, like all shades of golds, eggplant purples, olive greens, etc. It also allows some nice selection of wood browns.
Tumblr media
Third is my personal favorite, the muted trio. You kinda can get similar colours from the previous trio, but I prefer having these separately, because of how often I use them all. It consists of golden ochre-leaning yellow, dark bloody red and dark indanthrone blue. It gives you the most beautiful browns, beiges, blacks and other rich, deep colours.
Tumblr media
On top of that I also like to have at least one decent black (in my case it's Quink Black ink, I cannot live without it).  And these 10 would be my essentials. Other colours I add to my mixing palette are basically shortcuts to the shades I find myself mixing the most - like a few browns and violets. There are also a few inks that I need for some very specific purposes - like, I have a very vivid cold magenta ink to mix a certain bright cold shade of the Void, and also a fluorescent orange for adding shiny Exo LED lights. And etc.
(Actually I'm currently in the process of re-organizing my main palette and also considering making a few small sets for painting some characters specifically)
I also have a separate selection of chromatographic inks, which can probably be compared to granulating watercolours… But not quite. A few examples:
Tumblr media
Here I don't have any special notes or advices, just get the ink you like and enjoy it. Some of these I use so often that I always keep them in my main palette, and others I only get out for some special occasion. These are also mixable btw - I constantly add other ink in Quink Black to get different shades of it.
However, I must say that not all of the ~special effects~ inks are polite and well-behaved, some will agree to work only on some specific paper after a significant amount of coaxing, and others will straight out say "fuck you" at the most crucial moment, even if they worked perfectly just a moment ago.
Btw, when working with inks, I really recommend to put it into smaller bottles with a dropper, so you don't have to open the big bottle each time. It's both easier to use for you and much safer for inks!
ANYWAY, I hope this post was of some use for you 🌈

Ok so I decided to do it here cuz I don't know will AO3 allow me to write essay hahahahah 😂😂😂
I don't even know how to start this. I've been reading fics for 13 years straight, like I don't remember the period of my life where I didn't read them cuz I always have some ship active and I'm crazy BL fan. Only a small number of them can make me crazy to the point I don't wanna sleep, eat, skipping my obligations, killing the pain and your sebaciel did everything. I haven't felt like this reading fic..,maybe ever? This is totally another level of me being fascinated by some writer.
I adore sebaciel, I'm in fandom since 2016 but the biggest problem I had with their fics is that - either people go too much OOC with them orr they rush up the things between them, going quickly with sex and feelings. It bothered me so much so I was crawling for good SC fics as crazy!!
After some break with SC, I came back to ao3 and saw your long fic. I started reading it but I dropped it after 3 chapters, I got bored cuz I thought you are gonna just re-type manga and do classic thing which another people do. Quickly, I got disappointed with another one and idk how but I decided to give your fic one more chance and dear lord......that was one of the best thing I have ever read. Maybe even the best.
Like, how smart are you? What's your IQ? Your manage to explain me some things about Kuro plot which I haven't udnerstand by myself. And the way you write Sebaciel relationship. That's everything I have ever wanted. Everything. They have normal conversation and that's it, that's all I need cuz there is everything. I feel electric every time when they talk, fight, do things together, goood the little touches svbjhsdjvbvbvbvbvbsdjvhbdf. I was tense whole fic. I read it for like 10 days, abandon everything until I finished it and now I feel sad ahahhaahha. But you are really something special, cuz I always used to say that manga itself is the best fiction cuz Yana knows the best how to create good Sebaciel energy. You, next to Yana, did the best job. You kept them as they are, never broke the character, and that's what I am most grateful. Slow burn, with drama and angst, love and attention, all misunderstanding, you put all necessary spices for 5 star meal. My fav part is when Ciel told Sebastian to add slamming doors to his most dramatic moments of his life ahahahahahahhaha 😂😂 I laughed like crazy, they are so precious♥ And I really wanted kiss to happen when Ciel lied Sebastian about another demon, that was sooo svbjhsvjhjhvbdf. But okay, you know the best, I trust you fully with this♥
The fact that they are ready to kill each other before they have normal conversation about their feeling is my fetish. I am in love with toxic things. Ciel ready to throw all game just to prove Sebastian that his value is not only his soul, right after he told himself for 1000 times he needs to stay on distance..... I LOVE ITTTT!!! I also need to say that you find PERFECT balance for good plot and romance. Your games and their cases...I just don't know, deep bow for you queen🔥💯After all, you didn't retype drama ahahaha but you manage to keep it canon without changing anything but still adding your spices so it's not ordinary Kuro plot we see every day....
Tumblr media
I just have one question. From time to time, I was like a Bard ahahhaha, so sick of their games and my head hurting me, but on a good way. I am clear about Ciel but what about Sebastian and his disgust for Ciel's nicer, soft, emotional side? I know Ciel doesn't have it a lot, but would Sebastian still be grossed out about it as he was at the beginning of a contract or not? Keeping in mind that he is more and more obsessed with a boy?
So, that's all. I don't know how to use Patreon/PayPal, but for you I'll try cuz I only have credit card and that's all I know ahhahaha, I like to keep money in my hands😂 I'm sad about the situation in your country and all under - war countries. It's not bringing any good for anyone, specially for civilians. I hope you are okay and I wish you alll the best, the good karma must hit you really quickly cuz you made one person really, really happy here♥
Looking forward how will you finish this story, have a nice day❤
PS - this is the longest comment for fic I have ever left ahhaha, it's crazy how you got me sooo hyped up bjcvsdghvbds.
Hi! Ooh, thank you so much for your amazing, wonderful essay! I can't tell you how happy it made me! I think the electricity was already started being cut off when I got it, so I could see I have some really lengthy ask, but it wouldn't load. It was the torture of the most delicious kind :D
Like you, I've been reading fics for ages now, and the moments where I find some fantastic story that won't let me sleep or work or even blink are always the happiest and the brightest spots I remember. So it's extremely flattering to know that my story has become something similar to other people.
I love writing about smart characters, but most of them are definitely smarter than me! The benefit is that since I'm writing, I can think and plan everything in advance. In real life, I only wish I were as quick-witted and inventive. Alas, the best ideas and arguments come to me when they are no longer needed.
I love slow burns, and I love characters who abhor the idea of expressing their feelings, so Ciel and Sebastian have the most perfect dynamic in my eyes. I feel like I could spend the eternity just enjoying their Gothic world with their games, arguments, plots, and so on. Them antagonizing each other only to instantly team up against the common enemy is my most favorite thing in the world.
As for your question, right now, Sebastian would be thrilled if Ciel were to show a softer and more vulnerable side - at least in relation to him. Well, a part of him would feel the automatic need to mock him for it anyway, some habits don't die easily, but Sebastian's feelings have evolved a lot, plus Ciel is cold more often than he is not. So Sebastian treasures every word of praise, every hint of appreciation and need because they are so rare - he's come to crave them, and he has memorized all known cases of them by heart.
And no worries about supporting me! I really appreciate you taking your time to leave such a fantastic review, it made my day!

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you’re jealous that Matty got to kiss your boyfriend on stage and Ross doesn’t know why you’re giving him the silent treatment.
suggestive, not really smut, making out,
You couldn’t believe your eyes, you were on a balcony watching the concert enjoying every bit until Matty’s speech, which was also ok. But then he waved Ross over and they were heavily making out on stage, pulling each others hair and Ross’ hand on Matty’s back made you feel unwell.
The kiss ,which was more of a make out session, wasnt scripted. The Malaysian government canceled the The 1975's performance and they had to leave stage immediately.
You know it was all part of the act. It was something they did to rile up the crowd, to add an edge to the performance. But still, the flicker of jealousy eats at you. You feel foolish for letting it bother you, but the sting was real.
You see him, walking off the stage, laying down his bass.
You’re waiting for him even though you don’t really want to talk to him right now and when he spots you, his eyes are bright with adrenalin. He grins, the smile that usually melts your heart but tonight you turn away, pretending like you didn’t see him.
“Hey, you alright?” He asks, his voice laced with concern.
You shrug, “let’s just go,” you whisper, foot tapping the floor impatiently.
Ross gets the hint that you don’t want to talk right now but he sure is going to find out what’s bothering you. He guides you through the maze of hallways, the sounds of the concert still echoing in the background.
You join the rest of the band and crew in the lounge area, everyone buzzing with post-show excitement. You sit on the edge of a plush chair, your arms still crossed, and your gaze fixed on some random point on the wall.
Ross keeps glancing at you, his smile faltering slightly. He tries to engage with the others, laughing and joking, but his eyes keep drifting back to you. After a while, he has enough. He stands up, crossing the room with purposeful strides when he takes your hand.
“Think we need to have a little chat,” he says firmly, not waiting for your response as he pulls you up and out of the room. He leads you down another hallway to a small, dimly lit room with a couch. He closes the door behind you, the noise of the others muffled.
Ross raises an eyebrow when you’re still not looking at him, a playful smirk tugging at his lips. "Silent treatment, hm? What did I do?"
You let out a huff, finally looking at him. "Did you enjoy it?"
“What? Need more than that,” he’s clearly confused.
“Kissing Matty on stage,” you snap, the words spilling out before you can stop them. “Did you enjoy that?”
Ross’ eyes soften but a teasing smile spreads across his face. “Oh, darling, ‘s that’s what’s bothering you?”
You glare at him, trying to maintain your composure, “yes it is.”
He sits down, holding on to your hand and you don’t pull back, his fucking grin doing a number on you. He tugs you gently until you are standing between his knees, looking down at him.
“Jealous of Matty, are we?” He teases, his fingers lightly tracing circles on the back of your hand. “Never thought I’d see that day.”
“It’s not funny, Ross.”
"Oh, I think it is," he murmurs, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "Do you really think I’d rather kiss Matty than you?"
You bite your lip, not trusting yourself to speak without betraying how much his teasing is affecting you. He lifts your chin with his other hand, his thumb brushing lightly over your jawline.
"Look at me," he says softly, his voice low and compelling. "You have no reason to be jealous. You know that, right?"
“Do I? Cause you kissed him like you wanted him.”
Ross’s teasing smile softens, but the mischievous glint in his eyes remains. He pulls you down so you’re straddling his lap, his hands steadying you on either side of your waist.
"Love, come on now," he says, his voice a blend of tenderness and amusement. "It’s all for show. You know that."
You cross your arms over your chest, still trying to hold onto your annoyance. "It didn’t look like just a show."
He chuckles softly, his hands moving up to cradle your face. "What can I do to make it better, hm? How can I convince you?"
You try to maintain your stern expression, but the way he is looking at you, the way his hands moved to the small of your back, make it impossible. He tilts your chin up, his lips just a breath away from yours.
"You know it’s only you," he whispers, his voice sincere. "Always."
You lean in closer, your lips almost brushing his. "Kiss me with twice as much want and need as you kissed him."
His eyes darken with desire, and without another word, he closes the distance, capturing your lips in a kiss that’s anything but gentle. It’s filled with urgency, a raw intensity that makes your head spin. His hands move to your back, pulling you even closer as if he can’t get enough of you.
You respond with equal fervor, your fingers tangling in his hair as you deepen the kiss. The frustration and jealousy from earlier melt away, replaced by the familiar, all-consuming presence of him.
“The kiss didn’t only frustrate you?” His grip on your hips tightened, “turned you on, didn’t it.”
You don’t need to say anything, you let the roll of your hips against his say it.
The kisses you share are still slow, sensual, following the rise and fall your shared breathing, but this time he follows your lead, running his hands over your thighs, your hips, grabbing your ass and dragging it over the front of his jeans, where you can feel his bulge growing. You bite his lower lip, and your eyes are still closed but you can feel his smile.
“Thought so,” he breathes, his voice thick with amusement and desire. "You like seeing me kiss someone else, don’t you? Gets you all worked up."
"Shut up, Ross," you mumble, but the way your body reacts tells him everything he needs to know.
"You’re not as good at hiding it as you think, love," he teases, his hands kneading your flesh, pulling you even closer. "Your body gives you away."
You huff, trying to keep your composure. "You’re such an ass."
You’re rolling your hips once again, applying more pressure. There's not much separating your already drenched core from his erection, only his jeans and your underwear, your skirt already over your thighs, and you sigh from the delicious drag of your pussy over the soft material of his pants.
His grin widens, his hands slipping under your shirt, fingertips brushing against your skin. "Now, what am I going to do with you, hmm? So worked up because ‘f a little kiss."
"Ross," you whisper, feeling your resolve crumbling under his touch.
"Yes, love?" he asks, his voice a seductive purr.
"Just shut up and kiss me," you demand, your hands gripping his shoulders.
He chuckles, a low, sexy sound that sends shivers down your spine. "As you wish."
His lips find yours again, the kiss fierce and demanding. His hands move over your body, exploring every curve, every dip, as if he's memorizing you all over again. You can feel his cock pressing against you, and it only fuels the fire burning inside you.
"God, you're so sexy when you're jealous," he groans, his lips trailing down your neck. "Makes me want you even more."
You double down your efforts, grinding on him in earnest now. Your kisses are faster now, but mostly you just pant and breathe into each other's mouths, moaning when you reach a particularly good spot. There's a growing wet patch in your panties, transfering to Ross’ bright jeans, and you can almost hear how wet you are. His hands only leave your hips to travel up into your loose t-shirt, grabbing your tits and pulling your nipples, just rough enough to make you whine into his lips.
His hands are making dents into your hips, and his lips are sucking and biting against your own. The feel of his calloused hands on yours and the wet kisses he was giving you was absolutely addicting. It makes your mind fuzz into warmth.
“Ross,” you whine, the friction of his crotch not enough anymore.
“Hm?” He asks, looking into your eyes, “what s’ it? Need more?”
You nod and he nods as well, trying to open his belt with you grinding on him. He is just about to pull your panties down when a loud banging noises scares you shitless and Matty’s suddenly in the room.
“There you are, oh-“ he puts his hand on his eyes, “keep it PG you horny fucks, hanns son is looking for you.”
He leaves the room very fast, your head falling onto Ross’ shoulder. He’s kissing your face softly, “m’sorry, love, I’ll make it up to you later.”
You groan in frustration, lifting your head to glare at him. "You always say that."
"And I always do, don’t I?" he replies, a teasing smile playing on his lips.
"Not the point," you grumble, shifting slightly in his lap. "You were just getting to the good part."
Ross chuckles, his hands still resting on your hips. "I know, I know. But you know we can’t ignore Matty, especially not when Hann’s kid is involved."
You huff, crossing your arms. "Doesn’t mean I have to like it."
He leans in, nuzzling your neck and planting soft kisses along your jawline. "Tell you what, we’ll finish this later. And I’ll make sure it’s even better."
"You better," you mutter, trying to stay mad but failing miserably as his lips work their magic.
He pulls back, grinning at your flushed face. "Promise. Now, let’s go before Matty decides to barge in again."
You slide off his lap, adjusting your clothes while he fixes his belt. As you make your way to the door, Ross grabs your hand, pulling you back for one last kiss.
“Are we a bit better now though?” he asks, his voice a low rumble, as he pulls back just enough to catch his breath.
You nod, unable to suppress a smile. "Much better."
"Good," he says, his thumb brushing against your cheek. "Because I don’t want you to ever doubt how much you mean to me."

Do you have any tips for writing? Or you just go with the flow and hope for the best
I do have tips yeah, but keep in mind this is just how it works for me, there are probably lots of different approaches that are equally good.
My writing is pretty character driven so that drives a lot of my process.
When I'm writing I want to have a sense of how a character experiences the world, so I ask myself questions like this:
-Are they more cerebral, in their head? Or are they more sensory -How much tolerance do they have for bad things and feelings? -How do they react when something good happens? -Do they celebrate their wins or react with anxiety because winning adds pressure? -Are they embarrassed by compliments or do they take them well? If they're embarrassed do they get flustered or gruff? -Do their outward reactions match the way they feel inside? -Do they lie well? If they do is there anything they can't lie about? -What do they need to feel secure? -What calms them down? -What are their coping mechanisms? Make sure there are some bad ones (I mean that, imo a good character needs real flaws) -Do they speak directly about their feelings or do they talk around things
There's a lot more questions like that that you can ask yourself, and know the answers to those things makes it a lot easier to figure out how they would react to whatever you want to throw at them in the plot. Sometimes a character is going to be resistant to something you want to do and it's worth it to take the time (both IRL and in the plot) to figure out what that character needs to get them to a place where they're ready to react the way you need for the plot point.
Dialogue and Language
Another big thing for me is dialogue, as well as the language you use in general for describing things from a character's perspective. I'm not exactly sure out to describe this exactly, but I'll give an example. Stu uses a lot more casual and shortened language than Billy ('cause, gonna, sayin', ect.), and he's a lot more willing to use goofy slang than Billy is (dope, rad, the bomb).
Both of them use some movie language but Billy uses more- referring to his life plans and experiences as "the plot", referring to his field of view as "the shot", stuff like that.
Billy on the other hand uses slightly more formal, occasionally more dramatic language. He's less likely to use shortened words if he's not actively having sex, and when he swears he's more likely to say fuck than shit. He also refers to a lot more using critical language. Things are stupid, dumb, asinine, ect.
for both of them though I generally try to stick to more common language. Theres lots of fun words in the thesaurus, but if they don't sound like something a 19/20 year old dude would say I'm not going to try to find something else.
Plot
There are different kind of arcs to consider when you're figuring out pacing. For me I try to make sure chapters have an arc- I try to introduce an issue in the start, the characters navigate that through the chapter, and the tension rises toward the end until it comes to a head somehow. In my writing thats often a sex scene or a fight (or both).
I also try to consider the overarching plot. where do I want my characters to end up by the end of the story and what needs to happen to get them there? I don't like introducing plot elements out of nowhere, so I often try to mention things at least in an offhand way before they become important to the plot.
Practically the way I approach this is to figure out plot milestones. as an example for Debaser we start with a choking encounter that results in both of them having a sexual experience. That leads to an exploration of more power/painplay under the guise that it's not sexual, until they get to the point of having to admit that it sexual.
At that point its a slippery slope, especially after Maureens murder, which is a bonding experience. It sort of continues on that way, but they're all steps that move Billy into a place where he's more willing to let himself do what he actually wants.
I'm sure there's more I could say but this is the most useful advice I can think of right now. Basically know your characters! Know more about them than you think you'll need to to write the story, because you'll be shocked how much of it you can use to fill in blanks in a way that feels genuine.
I hope that helps!

jake comforting you because of thunders -requested
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
dating jake while having some sort of fear mean having unconditional comfort and love coming from him. every time he hears thunder or heaving pouring, he will always text you making sure that you are okay telling you to stay on your bed listening to music loud enough to not hear the storm. he will never let you on your own knowing that you aren't okay and he would always do his best to be there for you.
so if he is free when the storm happens, he will come over to you as fast as possible, not wanting to leave you too munch alone, w items he knows will soothe you down. he'll bring your fav snacks, his laptop, his headphones and some of his clothes he was wearing a day ago. he knows that you're listening music just like he asked you so he knows that ringing or knowing at your door is useless. that's why he had asked your keys in the past, only using it for emergencies.
finding you on the bed, just like he told you to be, he would come in front of the bed, hands waving, him facing you as u couldn't hear him. you'd try to remove your own headphones, to greet him, but he wouldn't let you, knowing the thunder sound is a huge trigger. he'd come join you in the bed, wrapping his body to yours and stroke your body softly, specially in the places he knows you'd scratch out of fear, loving them and you. he would stay close to you, until it quiets down or until you fall asleep in his arms.
when it does quiet down, enough for him to leave your bed, he would prepare his infamous ramen along your fav snacks. he would then prepare the living room, w blankets n the food he just made, bringing his laptop and his headphones. he would come back, sitting on your bed and he'd take your headphones off. my baby, come here, he says, sitting you up, you're all okay, my pretty girl, he would then add, kissing your temple, keeping you close to him. i've made you food, let's go ?
he will place you on the sofa under the blankets before going to go kitchen getting the ramen and the snacks. but he wouldn't forget to put your comfort show n make you wear his better quality headphones. he'd eat faster than you so he can free his hands from his bowl, taking you in his arms he'd even trap you under his top leg, his two arms around your body, trying to not bothering you from eating tho. he wouldn't pay attention to the movie, but more to you, kissing you or hugging you tighter, trying to make you forget about the environment surrounding you.
if luckily, the storms stops, he will stay as affectionate as he was, finally giving you his clothes to wear after you'd take a shower. but if it doesn't, he'll help you with it. he would run you a bath,if you do have one, n help you w taking off your clothes, music loudly beating on the speaker. he would keep his clothes on, only wanting to take care of you. he would give you the softest hair massage, while humming along the song. he would also worship-kiss your face, telling you soft n comforting words my pretty baby, i'm all here you don't need to be scared or pretty pretty angel, the world is too harsh for you, words laced w nothing but adoration for you.
once done, he would patiently wait, for you to wear your his clothes, in the bathroom w you to help you w your night routine. he will keep telling you sweet words and kissing you, while putting on your face cream or helping you brush your teeth. he wouldn't stop being all over you and doing things for you until you would fall asleep, so your mind can turn off, ur anxiety too.
he will feel like his duties will be accomplished, once you've peacefully fallen asleep in his arms, he'd smile to himself seeing you so prettily sleeping, kissing you alseep.

18 + swaymark!!
oooo thank you!!
#18 - pleaser, wallows + swaymark
okay i know they are canonically obsessed with each other but. the song is in some ways about feeling like you’re failing in your relationship and being not quite as obsessed with them as they maybe are with you, and in this video of them talking about being a tandem, there is the slightest pause before swayman answers “do you miss him?” that makes me want to probe a wound. we’re not talking irl reasons of how that’s an absurd question (how do you miss him. you’re coworkers you’re seeing each other all the time) we’re talking that maybe this whole goalies-in-love thing got blown out of proportion and now swayman’s having to buy into the bit too hard. linus loves it & everyone’s asking about their bromance & how they love each other so much and the thing is—linus is safe. he’s got a wife and plausible deniability and jeremy? jeremy is gay. sure, he can crack jokes and people-please but the more people ask the more they're going to find out until maybe they find out something jeremy doesn't want them to know. and the longer this goes on, the more jeremy has to sit at linus' dinner table with linus and his beautiful wife and pretend like he isn't a little bit in love with him. and you know what? the longer it goes on and linus doesn't dial it down jeremy does stop being in love with him, because it just feels cruel, until he finally is done enough that he stops biting his tongue and ruins the moment.
#…this so is not a five sentence summary but ALSO this manages to perfectly align with something i was obsessed with (that media video)#like yeah is that pause reasonably a buffering time to a weird question? yes!!! do i want to read into it & make swayman a bit uncomfortabl#also yes!!! sorry i decided to give them tragique but they were assigned by spotify. the other option for this song was an ED fix-it fic#about healthy sex and learning that it can be a part of a normal relationship!! sex is weird and fucked up!! but like. that’s just because#i have always interpreted this song as a) unrequited best friend love & you’re worried you’re gonna fuck it up b) virgin who doesn’t know#what sex is and is scared to tell anyone and then option c) people pleaser keeps going along with it but can’t anymore#also OBVIOUSLY they end up fine. whether that ends up being jeremy finally telling linus (oblivious) i don’t want to do this with you#i need to get over you & them creating a platonic space & sway ends up with someone else OR linus has the oh. true. i simply never#considered that i could be gay for you option OR the one i have just invented but is now my favorite because i love a good polycule is that#linus & his wife simply add jeremy to their relationship. and then this song becomes jeremy scared to have sex with linus’ wife at first lo#liv in the replies#the interviews in that video doing the lord’s work fr but also that ‘do you not miss him’ feels SO uncomfortable. say no! but then he leans#in with the dirty jokes comment & i know i’ve made like eight variations already (sorry. that’s how my brain works) but it is soooo fun#to me personally if they are broken up but now have to act nice & keep doing all these rituals & sell us on the narrative & they’re just#trying to see who’s going to crack first. needle each other into laughing or getting irritated enough it shows through & the other one wins#do even more aggressive hug rituals!! get a medical warning from the athletic training staff!!!
