CP2077 OC ask game *:・゚✧⚔️🤖🔮 [x]
PERSONAL.
1. what is their full name? do they have any nicknames? what are they and why did they get them? His full name is Maximilian Noirceuil Roquentin Vandermeer. Vandermeer to others, Max to his family. His mother just loves French literature and culture.
2. how old are they? how long have they been living on their own? 33 as of 2077. He’s been living on his own for 15 years since he joined Arasaka.
3. what are their astrology signs? sun/moon/rising. He was born on May 2nd 2044, which makes him a sun Taurus, moon Cancer and ascendant Leo.
4. what tarot card from the major arcana would you associate with them? The Devil.
5. are they religious or spiritual in any way? Not at all. Max is rather materialistic and self-indulgent at times.
6. which of the four elements would you associate with them? Air for intellect and mental intention.
9. which of the nine alignments are they? (lawful good etc) Lawful neutral.
10. which of the myers-briggs personality types are they? ESTJ, the Executive.
11. do they have any cyberware? is it cosmetic or is it weaponry/armor? He’s not into combat much, he prefers doing his job quietly if he can. Better yet - a silver tongue coupled with unsettling look can achieve a lot more than a weapon. Hands: Smart Link; Ocular system: Kiroshi Optics; Nervous system: Kerenzikov; Cyberdeck: Stephenson Tech Mk.2; Integumentary system: Optical Camo;  Skeleton: Endoskeleton, Bionic Lungs; Legs: Lynx Paws.
12. what is their occupation? He likes to call himself a free artist but technically he’s a solo. Murder, sabotage, thievery, recovery, delivery - you name it and he’ll do it, quick & clean. A man of high standards he prefers to be silent, precise and effective about his work. Even during his Arasaka days he never shied away from hard or morally repulsive (to some) tasks. A job is a job and needs to be done.
13. if you were to choose a class for them, what would it be? The closest would probably be a Stealth Solo.
14. what is their weapon of choice? HJKE-11 Yukimura pistols & Electric Baton.
15. what is their preferred vehicle or transportation of choice? Black Quadra Turbo-R V-Tech.
16. how would you describe their style? Neomilitarism. Corpo chic through and through.
17. are they a early riser or a night owl? Normally he’s an early riser but not averse to adapt if work demands it.
18. share three songs you associate with them. Eisbrecher - Verrückt [translation] Dorothy - Wicked Ones Oomph! - Augen auf! [translation]
NIGHT CITY.
19. is your character from night city? if no, where were they born? what brought them to night city? if yes, what area of the city did they grow up? He is from Charter Hill, Night City. His maternal family is from North Oak but his parents moved to something more affordable before he was born. He worked his ass off to stay in Charter Hill on his own but after his boss Jenkins lost the power struggle in Arasaka, Vandermeer had to survive and look for a cheaper place.
20. where do they currently live? describe their home. Watson, Little China, near Sutter Street. He rents a small apartment that satisfies his needs, which turned out to be rather simple - a quiet (as much as possible), clean and efficient space that is suitable for living and working in.
21. do they have any favorite spots around NC? Lele Park in the evening and night. And Dark Matter club.
22. do they like to cook for themselves, or eat out? do they prefer restaurants or street food? and how do they feel about vending machine food? He can cook a few things thanks to his mom but generally prefers street food and restaurants. He finds vending machines repulsive.
23. do they prefer the city or the badlands? The city. He loves comfort, hygiene and availability of things only megalopolis can offer.
24. what gang/faction/corporation do they align with, if any? He prefers to keep balance and mutually beneficial relationships with everyone strictly for business. He always looks for people reasonable enough to bargain with.
25. which radio station(s) is their favorite? If it’s a car radio then it’s Vexelstrom most of the times. He likes hearing heavy rhythms in the background. When it comes to listening to music at home he has a variety of genres in his playlists from classics and jazz to heavy metal.
26. if they do merc work, do they have one dedicated fixer? if so, who? It’s Rachel Vogelman (another OC created by @bnbc). They used to be corporate rivals during their Arasaka days. To add fuel to the fire their colleagues believed them to be siblings because of certain visual similarities between the two. When Max lost his job Rachel was the only person he could ask for help. It wasn’t easy, and it still isn’t but they focus on the business side of things. Or at least try to.
27. have they ever had run ins with the badges? He doesn’t like to attract unnecessary attention. Nobody likes when you’re the star of TV news.
28. are they quick to help a stranger in need or do they prefer to stay out of other peoples business? He most likely won’t help unless it can benefit him in any way.
29. do they have any favorite celebrities that frequent or live in NC? how would they feel meeting them? He doesn’t give a shit about celebrities. But he knows Michiko Arasaka, and their first meeting face to face left him baffled to say the least.
RELATIONSHIPS.
30. is your friend a social butterfly or more of a loner? Something in between. He hates useless small talks and fake politeness but understands their necessity when required.
31. who are their closest chooms in NC? He doesn’t have any. Never cared enough to rely on people and always expected a knife in the back. His most regular stable contact is probably Rachel Vogelman but  they’re not even close to being chooms.
32. do they have anyone they would consider family? His mom and his sister are the only family he needs.
33. what is/was their relationship like with their parents? He loves his mother Jessica who raised him to be a well-rounded personality that can always land on his feet. She’s an economist with a good sense of humor and interest in arts. But he doesn’t have much emotional connection with his father Mark, since the guy is always busy with his retail business.
34. do they have siblings? He has a sister named Brit who is 15 years younger.
35. how would you describe their relationship with their family? Max is close with his family, although they’re all often too busy to meet regularly but they keep in touch.
36. who is their biggest enemy? Detective Marc Sanderson? Hard to say for now because there’s no official lore information on him yet.
37. tell a short story about your character with their best choom. His rivalry with Rachel Vogelman was almost comic at times, which only worked against them as their colleagues called them siblings on purpose. But since the two have mutually beneficial relationships now he can admit Rachel is pretty good at what she does. He won’t tell it to her though to avoid giving her the pleasure. They have both grown up after losing their corporate jobs but some habits die hard.
38. do they have a love interest? if so, who? His current LI is Michiko Arasaka. Initially he'd met her as Ichigo (a Japanese name that means strawberry) in a cyber sex VR club while he still worked in Arasaka. It was a series of encounters they both enjoyed until he abruptly put an end to it during his unemployment. He suspects she started digging info on him because she reached out to him some time after he had made a small name for himself as a solo.
39. are they in a committed relationship or do they date around? Given the social gap between the two and solely sexual nature of their affair it’s implied they’re in open relationship. Besides it’s unknown if Michiko is still married. However, despite loving sex Max can be picky because he’s slightly fixated on hygiene. Michiko also sparked genuine curiosity and creativity in him with her wild and magnetic personality.
40. has your character ever been in love? if so, with who? No, what is love? He won’t recognize it even if falls in it.
41. do they believe in soulmates? No, he believes in shared goals.
42. do they believe in love at first sight? A ridiculous notion.
43. describe their ideal date. Their idea of romantic evening is to hook up in clubs where it’s noisy and crowded enough to ignore them but also to tickle their nerves. Sometimes they have a follow-up in motels (Michiko knows all the right places) if they can afford it. I don’t mean financially of course. Currently such state of affairs suits both of them perfectly.
44. would your character ever get married? Theoretically he can but marriage is a serious commitment, and right now he’s not interested in making one. And when it comes to Michiko it’s a no-no for a variety of obvious reasons.
45. what was your characters first impression of their partner(s)? Michiko Arasaka was not someone he expected to see when Ichigo asked for a real life meeting. She definitely enjoyed the effect she made while Max was trying to figure out in his mind if this was a setup. She was bold, straightforward and irresistable - not like anyone he has ever met before. The whole situation felt like getting into a sports car without breaks. Once in a lifetime opportunity, a one-way ticket. And he took it. He suspects he’s not the first and not the last such input for her but life is too short for missing out the fun.
46. are they open about their relationship or low key? how would other people feel about them together? Somewhat semi-open. Max’s mom knows and she’s worried for him, although she knows he can take care of himself. And Michiko doesn’t mind him telling about her to his family as he has no friends and isn’t the type to brag, and she doesn’t care if anyone recognizes her in public. Her social circle wouldn’t care about him, and those who might won’t be able to do a thing about it.
47. share a headcanon about your character and their partner(s). Just one? I’ve already got plenty. • Michiko calls him Max and he calls her Ichigo or Ichi (one) because that’s how they’ve met and it's something of their inside joke, a secret; • Michiko keeps him at distance on purpose. She studied his profile long before they’ve met face to face and probably knows what he wants for breakfast before he even wakes up. So she knows Max has opportunistic tendencies like majority of mid-tier corpos. But another reason is that she also doesn’t want things to get serious and complicated between them because it can ruin the fun. She appreciates he doesn’t ask stupid questions or demands more attention than she can give him; • Michiko likes to подъебывать Max. I guess the closest English equivalent would be to tease - cracking suggestive jokes on him, giving him simple presents she finds hilarious, sending him nudes and demanding payment with his in the most inappropriate times. She is amused Max tolerates her shit so stoically - but she’s never malicious, disrespectful or obnoxious. In return Max knows it’s hard to impress someone who comes from the Arasaka bloodline & that it would be safer not to get on their bad side, so he focuses on making her feel good. And strangely it makes him feel good too.  • Max loves to touch her hair. Michiko always looks flawless when they meet and he adores her for it. • When Arasaka Tower was under attack Max called her until she finally picked up as he was genuinely concerned about her safety. He asked if she was alright and offered to take her home but she refused. She doesn’t know he was waiting outside.
48. share three songs you associate with your character and their partner(s). Garbage - Bad Boyfriend Eisbrecher - Exzess Express [translation] Eisbrecher - Rot wie die Liebe [translation] Bonus: Dinah Washington - Relax, Max - a song Michiko likes to tease him with.
NSFW.
49. name three of your characters biggest turn ons. Mature, confident women who know what they want and don’t waste anyone’s time.
50. name three of your characters biggest kinks. Touching Michiko in public - it’s the kink of kinks.
51. do they like having multiple partners or do they prefer monogamy? He doesn’t like being in relationships. The secret to his successful affair with Michiko is that both are totally free of any commitments and expectations from each other. Normally he prefers flings, BDs and cyber sex. But currently his mind is occupied with one specific woman with blue hair.
52. do they watch porn or braindances? Porn is ancient, BDs are far more superior.
53. would your character ever make an explicit braindance? He doesn’t have the right implant for that. He might though but not with Michiko - he’s not that stupid.
54. do they have any cybernetic enhancements that serve sexual purposes? He’s no netrunner but he got himself a Stephenson cyberdeck that supposedly prolongs orgasms. Turns out the cyberdeck can be useful for other things as well, even moreso as now he doesn’t have a corpo protection and needs to be more careful.
55. do they have a preference for ‘ganic bodies or do they like modifications? He doesn’t like cheap implants. Other than that he doesn’t care.
56. name three of your characters biggest turn offs. Poor hygiene, naivete and girls who don’t know when to quit.
57. what is their ultimate fantasy? or ““secret”“ kink? Michiko is his ultimate fantasy now. There’s something liberating and intoxicating about having her at the tips of your fingers moaning your name. He feels like he can try anything with her and she won’t say no, although he is aware it’s an illusory freedom.
58. would they ever use any substances like aphrodisiacs, alcohol or drugs during sex? Yes because why not? It’s not necessary but it can’t hurt.
59. what is their wildest sexual experience? A corpo group sex party. It was fun but he doesn’t like joytoys, even premium ones. Had to do a medical check-up afterwards.
60. are they more submissive or dominant? Dominant. But one time Michiko cuffed him to bed and he didn’t mind.
61. does your character need to have an intimate relationship with someone to have sex? or do they prefer being unattached? Unattached is best at the moment. Though he’s not fully aware he’s currently attached.
62. has your character ever participated in group sex? In the past, during his Arasaka days.
63. do they like to sext or play over the holo? Why not both, depending on situation.
64. has your character ever ghosted someone after a sexual encounter? Yes because he doesn’t like attachment. The reason he didn’t ghost Ichigo was that she was always creative during their virtual meetings.
65. how would they react if they were ghosted by someone they like after a sexual encounter? If Michiko ghosted him he’d be probably pissed and then upset. But he suspects she’d tell him first because there’s a certain amount of trust between them.
66. do they prefer kink oriented sex or spontaneous passionate sex? Usually the latter but the former is good too.
67. how do they get down on their own? quick and easy or do they have to romance themselves a little? It depends on a moment.
68. in what outfit do they feel sexiest? how do they dress to impress? Naked is the best. He dresses sharp because that’s how he was raised and also because it makes him feel good about himself. He mostly prefers clean black suits.
69. do they like having music on while they have sex? share three songs they’d play while getting down. He usually doesn’t care but Michiko likes to put on something energetic and loud when they’re in motels. This is just to give the idea of the mood: Fatboy Slim - Ya Mama Beastie Boys - Sabotage Mylène Farmer - Des larmes

Other Characters: John Winchester, Crowley, Rowena, Dean Winchester, Bobby Singer, Jessica Moore (deceased), Pamela Barnes
Series Warnings: 18+ only, mild language, violence, implied smut
“I think Dad and Crowley want to sacrifice your child to Eve.”
The bedroom chamber was so quiet, you could hear the distant sounds of children playing in the gardens rising up through the open window. Despite the gleeful sounds that played softly in the background, you felt as if the wind had been knocked free from your chest and felt your stomach drop.
Looking between the Lords Winchester, you could see that Sam and Dean were also struggling with what had been revealed. You wanted to speak, had every intention to do so, but there was no air to propel any words forth.
“I--I don’t even know how to comprehend that, Dean. Why--What would make you think that our father could even entertain an idea like that?”
“Something I overheard… Look, Sammy, I don’t know what the Hell dad and Crowley are planning. I just know what I heard.”
“Which was?” Sam asked with exasperation.
“The only reason Crowley aided us with reinforcements, was because he’d made a deal.”
“Crowley, the King of Hell, make a deal? C’mon man, that’s just a Monday morning for him. What does that have to do with anything?”
“Because, part of this deal was Crowley promised Eve a new life. One created from the blood of her enemies.”
“Wh--Why? Why would she want that? She’s got all of Purgatory at her side. She has the ability to create whatever kind of life she wants!”
“Not a human life,” Dean shrugged in response. “But, I did over hear this from one of his demons, so take it with a grain of salt, wouldya?”
“Our father is a lot of things, but a monster that could sacrifice his own flesh and blood?”
“Sounds more like my father, than yours,” you replied softly. “Crowley would sacrifice anyone if it meant cementing his crown.”
“Even you?” Dean asked.
“Yes, even me.”
“Well, I guess I know who I’ll be nominating as father of the year,” Dean quipped and let his half smile fade as he made eye contact with Sam.
Sam pursed his lips tightly and sighed. “We need answers. Speculating what our father’s are up to won’t help anyone.”
“And how do you plan on getting that assurance, husband? Crowley won’t show here unless summoned. The King, if this is what is planned, won’t tell you. So, how--”
Sam grabbed your shoulder and gently turned you to face him. You did your best to stay stoic, but couldn’t help but so cracks beneath the surface. “I promise you, I will find out one way or the other. That’s the pact, right? We work together to uncover their plan--”
“Yeah, and don’t go making any babies until then,” Dean mumbled, and smiley shyly when you and Sam both looked at him with a quiet disdain.
Yet, Dean’s words fell heavy on both you and Sam. Knowing how you had spent the night before, a quick glance between you two left a cold, numbing feeling in the pit of your stomach. Sam could almost read your mind, and gave your shoulder a loving squeeze.
“We will get answers. But Dean’s right. Until we do, we will keep up appearances, but take no chances in creating a child.”
All you could do was nod slightly in response and present your husband with a demure smile.
Dean cleared his throat to break up the moment. “I hate to pull your husband away, (Y/N) but I think he and I have some things to figure out before I have to leave for the Front again.”
“Wait,” Sam released you and quickly turned towards his brother. “What do you mean, go back? I thought you were home!”
“Just for a few days little brother. With Crowley’s reinforcements arriving, and the damage the rift storm caused, I can’t leave the Winchester Guard unprotected. Besides, we are actually making some headway having those black-eyed bitches with us. I hate to say it, but they are helping. I just don’t trust they won’t try and possess a few of our men if given the chance.”
Sam nodded in reluctant agreement. “I get it. It’s just, I could use you here.”
“I know, man. I do. But…”
“The greater good,” Sam replied with a half-defeated smile. “I guess we should go then, see what we can learn together while you’re here.”
“And don’t forget, plan a celebration…” Dean’s sarcasm wasn’t lost on you, but you were unsure of what he meant.
“A celebration?”
“Yes, my father thinks we should have a large celebration, open the gates to the castle and allow the people of Lawrence to rejoice with us.”
“What’s the occasion?” you asked, not liking the sound of the King’s latest decree.
Sam signed and ran a hand through his long hair. “Our marriage and Dean’s return.”
“I see…” You hated the idea, but thought there was some way to use this to your collective advantage. “Well, one way or another we will make it work for us.”
Sam’s smile grew wide across his face, creating the cavernous dimples you had quickly come to love. “Yes, that’s exactly what we will do.”
Despite Dean’s presence, Sam pulled you into a loving embrace and held you tightly. Though your head was happily buried in Sam’s broad chest, you could feel Dean’s eyes watching you again. You understood his hesitancy in you, and your motives, but you wouldn’t let it ruin what you were building with your husband.
When you pulled back from the embrace, Sam turned back towards Dean and slapped his shoulder with one, large hand. “So, what do you say we go do a little digging.”
Dean didn’t respond, but instead watched his little brother move towards the door to leave. He didn’t budge from his spot, or take his eyes off Sam.
“Hey, you uh, you forgetting something?” Dean asked, arms crossed over his chest and watching Sam curiously.
Sam frowned in response and shook his head. “Don’t think so.”
“Well then you must be a witch yourself little brother. Because last I remember, you had yourself a shattered hip that barely let you learn to walk again. Now you’re basically sprinting out the door with no cane, no limp…”
Sam’s face fell instantly and lost color. then passed a nervous glance to you. Able to read his expression, you shrugged in return. ‘Should we tell him?’ ‘I guess… ‘
Sam sighed and snorted an anxious laugh. “Well, I’m not a witch but I am married to one. We got stuck in the rift storm, out in the Elven Woods. Found an old cottage and (Y/N) here worked her magic. Literally. I was able to walk with no pain, no limp… for days.”
“Days? That rift storm was weeks ago. You still look fine to me.”
“Last night, I applied a heavier dose of the ointment. Let it heat by the fire,” you paused and blushed at the memory of what happened after, “and this morning, he’s better than ever.”
“You let her work her hoodoo on you? Sammy, what were you thinking? She’s--”
“Listen here, Dean Winchester,” you interrupted, unable to hold your tongue any longer, “I understand your suspicions of me, I’ve lived with that stigma all my life just because of who my father is. But I grew up to have a mind of my own, and yes, I was taught witchcraft by the most powerful witch in all of Lawrence and beyond. Rowena MacLeod may have shown me the way of magic, but I learned a few things on my own, as well. Including love, compassion, and commitment to those in my favor. Your brother and I had a rocky start, yet we have come to a mutual understanding. If you can’t respect HIS choices in that, then I beg you to reconsider. Your brother is a wonderful man, and has been just as disrespected by his father, as I have been by mine. And if you truly believe, even for a moment, that I am capable of hurting him, well then, frankly, you’re a horses’ ass.”
Your impassioned speech fell heavy in the room for a few moments. From the corner of your eye, you could see Sam smirking. Dean’s expression, however, was more shocked than anything.
“Well alright then,” Dean finally said, “I suppose I could be wrong. Hell, hope I am.”
You straightened your shoulders and stood as tall as you could. “You are wrong, Lord Winchester. Just you wait, you’ll see who’s side I’m on.”
Dean nodded and looked towards Sam. “Come on Sammy, let’s go see what Dad has really got cooking up with the King of Hell.”
Tumblr media
Shortly after they left the room, you sat down on the plush bed and sank back into the pillows. A flurry of thoughts and concerns raced through your mind, but as you tucked your arm over your head, hand beneath the pillow, you felt something hard and cool to the touch. Sitting up, you removed the pillows to see the vial that had once been around your neck to be stuck between the large, carved wooden headboard and the down mattress of Sam’s bed.
A sigh of relief released from your lips; it was so audible you were afraid someone heard you out in the corridor. You clutched the vial to your chest and began to laugh softly. Slipping the cord back around your neck, you let the small bottle fall to your chest, then tucked it beneath your dress. Feeling its weight against your skin gave you more than just relief, it gave you an idea. Unsure if the pieces would fit together, you knew you had to find out. The one person who could answer your questions, was the same woman who taught you how to concoct potions in the first place.
Rowena.
By the time the sun had hit the midday sky, you were reaching the entrance to the Elven Woods, and clutched at the old leather satchel slung over one shoulder. It was the first time you had ventured back to them since Sam had brought you there the day after the ceremony. ‘The day he tried to kill me,’ you thought. Shaking off the feeling of Sam’s blade against you, you took the first step through the archway to the woods.
As you made your way down the bumpy terrain, you came out to the majestic oak that grew at the fork in the path. It was just as radiant as you had remembered. The sunlight streamed down through its twisted maze of leaves and branches. You could feel its energy calling to you as it did to many magical folk in Lawrence. Somehow the magic you infused into the cream was able to break through the castle’s powerful warding. But the ritual you wanted to perform now, needed this extra boost of power.
Pressing your hand against the rough bark of the trunk, you closed your eyes and felt the power that lived within its core. Focusing your mind towards that force, you began to feel it seep into your veins. When you finally opened your eyes, you felt a surge of magic like you’d never experienced and watched as the glow around your hand began to fade. It left you even more convinced that you were doing the right thing. Stepping back from the tree, you bowed your head in thanks, and continued down the right path that would lead you to the small cottage you’d found refuge in before.
It didn’t take long before you could see the familiar shape of the roof peeking out through the trees. You took a last glance up at the sky, unsure if another rift storm would be lurking. Blue skies still reigned above, and you walked the last hundred steps towards the old place.
You pushed in the door, and was immediately hit by the smell of the dried herbs lining the walls. It was warm and welcoming, and you began to find a love for the vibration you felt standing within its structure. Carefully lifting off the satchel you carried on your shoulder, you laid it down on the long wooden table and unpacked its contents.
Other than the noise you made setting up an altar, there wasn’t a sound to be heard.  Summoning another witch wasn’t exactly difficult, though it did require a certain amount of concentration. Grateful for the quiet, you lit the candles and began to break up the herbs and bones as the Grimoire had instructed. Holding your hands over the cauldron, you sprinkled in the last ingredient, conjured Rowena’s face in your mind and repeated the incantation.
Upon finishing, a burst of purple light and blue smoke erupted from the old ceramic bowl, engulfing you in its haze. Waving your hands to help it clear, you began to smile the moment you saw a hint of Rowena’s bright red hair emerging through a small clearing in the fog.
“This best be important, dear. I was right in the middle of convincing the Prince of Wales that I was his long lost sister. That man’s money could’ve set me up for life…”
“I’m sorry, grandm--Rowena… but it is important.”
“You know, dearie, there are messengers to deliver important news. Did your father not teach you anythin’?”
Her words conveyed annoyance, but her expression gave you pause to think that maybe she wasn’t as bothered as she wanted you to believe. Rowena’s half smile, pulled into true grin as she surveyed your altar in front of her.
“Impressive. Seems as though you had a good teacher,” she replied smugly, and slowly made her way round to the side you stood on. “So tell me, why did you need to call on grannie?”
“I heard some things. Some details of the pact my father made with the King.”
“Oh?” Rowena’s curiosity was transparent, and as much as you respected her, you knew deep down you couldn’t trust her. “Do tell.”
“I… can’t. I have no reassurance that it’s true, though I do plan on protecting myself if it turns out to be a fact. What I need from you, is to tell me more about this…” you paused and withdrew the vial from beneath your dress.
Rowena took a small step forward and examined the bottle. A devilish smile unfurled on her petite face as her eyes came up to meet yours.
“Well, now, what do we have here?” Her eyes lit up as her painted fingertips carefully toyed with the glass.
“It’s a love potion. I made it before we came here, in case I needed to protect myself from Lord Winchester.”
“Smart girl, though, poison and hex bags work better in my experience,” she shrugged and let it fall gently back to your chest. “Are you and Samuel getting along? Has he tried to hurt you?”
“Yes. we are getting along now, but he did try to kill me.”
“Yet, here you stand,” her smile grew even wider, “Clever girl… did you have to use that on him?”
“No, and don’t think I will. But…” you trailed off and turned back towards the altar. Pressing your hands against the wood of the table for support, you leaned forward and found the courage to tell her what you wanted to do with it.
“But…?”
“If what I learned is true, I may need to use it on the King.”
“The King? Oh, please tell me you don’t mean your father…”
“Rowena, please. Of course not. I mean King Winchester. I am afraid the only sure fired way I can divert is his plans--”
“Is to make him fall in love with you?”
You nodded softly, and released your grip on the table. “I don’t want to. The idea of it gives me a sick feeling. But, if it's my last option, then I will do what I must.”
“Fair enough, dear. But where do I fit into this grand scheme of yours?”
“I took the spell from one of your books. I need to know the effects, if there is a curse attached, if I can break it if needed. I only mean to distract the King, not to become his bride next.”
“I don’t know, the King is at least easy on the eyes…”
“Please, don’t even suggest it. I was completely against this whole arrangement, but I have found a kindred spirit in Samuel. I’m sure part of my father’s intention was to have me tortured by this marriage, but really, he only did me a favor.”
“Don’t say that too loudly, you know that son of mine is always lurking. Knowing he did you a service, he may just snatch it right back from you.”
“I know, and it's why I hope I can trust you with this.” You paused and took Rowena’s hand, hoping that you could appeal to the side of her that felt fondness for you, and hatred for her son. “He’s your son… my father. We should be rooting for him, but at what cost? Look at what he’s already taken from both of us. You’re at his beck and call, and he had me marry his enemies, knowing they wanted me to burn solely for having the same blood run through my veins.”
Rowena seemed to be studying you, but you ignored her scrutiny. She stood quiet, contemplating the circumstances, then finally nodded. “You’re not wrong, my dear. My son is, to say the least, a vengeful little man. He’ll take any chance he can to destroy your happiness.”
“I know, that’s why I need to be proactive. So can you… will you, keep this to yourself?”
“Can I keep your motivations quiet? Yes, of course. But I cannot and will not help you with whatever plan you are conjuring. At some point, you have to be your own witch, dear. Can’t rely on dear old Rowena for everything.”
You thought you heard her wrong, but when she took a step back and made a demur shrug with her expression, you knew you hadn’t.
“I’m your granddaughter, and you refuse to help me? We’re family!”
“Oh, sweet child, what does family really mean? Because we share blood? One thing I’ve learned in this big, rotten world is that it means absolutely nothin’. Family is what you make it. Our bloodlines are poisonous, why do you think I sold Fergus off as a child? He was a rotten little twat. I needed to escape, or be put to death.”
Shaking your head slowly in disbelief, you turned back towards the altar. You could feel anger begin to boil under the surface, and for the first time in your life, felt the same hatred towards Rowena that you carried for your father.
“I’m sorry, Y/N. But, I have to look out for myself. Think maybe it’s best if I disappear for a while. Go explore the world a bit. I do wish you luck,” she paused and gave a little smirk when she looked over your altar again. “Seems as if you know what you’re doin’.”
Before you could respond, Rowena mumbled a few words, and was gone. All that she left behind was a swirling mist of violet smoke, and her words ringing in your ears.
‘...what does family really mean? Because we share blood? One thing I’ve learned in this big, rotten world is that it means absolutely nothing. Family is what you make it.’
“That’s probably the best thing you’ve ever taught me, grandmother.”

You emerged from the Elven Woods just as the sun was reaching late afternoon. Despite its brilliance, you were left with a chill that ran through your bones. A feeling of certain dread that loomed on the horizon. Stepping across the threshold into the gardens, you took a moment to breathe, and lifted your face towards the warmth of the sun. Losing track of time, you weren’t sure how long you stood that way, just clearing your mind and letting its light wash over the darkness you felt in your gut.
“Y/N? My Lady… are you alright?”
The older, gravely voice of the Winchester’s Maester brought you out of your unintended meditation. When you lowered your eyes, blinking away the bright spots behind them, you saw Bobby standing there, looking concerned and a bit puzzled.
“Bobby… yes, I’m... “ you tried to say the word fine, but it wouldn’t seem to work. “...breathing.”
“Need a moment, did ya?” Bobby replied, slowly closing the distance left between you. “You look a bit pale, feeling alright?”
“Yes… well… no. But it’s not an ailment I’m afraid. No herbs or teas to fix this ache.”
“And what kinda ache is that, may I ask?” His tone had shifted from curious to suspicious.
You knew he was a trusted part of Samuel’s family; you had experienced that first hand when he allowed you use of his apothecary. But could you trust him with conspiring against his King in the manner of which you were considering?
“Revelation,” you said, and sighed softly. “Maester Singer… I know Samuel trusts you, so I am hoping I can as well.”
Bobby considered it for a moment, and nodded. “You can, long as you aren’t looking to hurt my boy.”
“Never. I have grown quite fond of Samuel, and hurting him is something I would never consider. Not anymore.”
“Glad to know we’re on the same page here. So, spill, what’s got you lookin’ like you just walked over your own grave?”
“Revelations… things I’ve heard. An unspeakable betrayal from those I thought were my family.”
“Well, considering who your dad is, can’t really say you should be surprised.”
“Not just him, Rowena, too. I asked her for help, and she threw me to the wolves.”
“Again--”
“Yes, I understand,” you interrupted and flashed him a look of annoyance.
“Alright, so if they can’t help ya, maybe I can. What is it exactly you need help with?”
“I need answers… I need to know if these things are true.”
“You can ask me. If I know, I’ll give ya an honest answer.”
Taking a moment to think before answering, you passed him a demur smile, and took a few steps around him, before turning back to face him. “I want too, Bobby. I do. But I fear asking puts you in a precarious position. I don’t want to do that to you. Samuel adores you, and frankly, I adore him. So, no, I cannot ask you.”
“Fair enough,” he replied, his brow furrowed in thought. “I may know someone who could help. A friend of mine is back in town. She’s been known to see what us mere mortals can’t.”
“Is she a Dreamwalker?” you asked, a burst of excitement creeping into your tone, despite your sense of being overwhelmed.
“No. But, she’s the best damned psychic I’ve ever known. People around here know her best as ‘The Oracle’. She travels ‘round helpin’ folks however she can. If you need answers, I am pretty sure she can get them for ya.”
“You would do that? For me?”
“You’re family, ain’t ya?”
For the first time in a while that day, you smiled a genuine smile. “Yes, I am. So, where do we find this friend of yours?”
Tumblr media
The journey to find the Maester’s friend didn’t take nearly as long as you thought it would. You didn’t want to be gone too long, or Sam may question where you went. Telling him your plans without all the answers felt dangerous somehow, but taking too long to divulge your thoughts could be just as dangerous. Rowena wasn’t exactly trustworthy, and who knew what she was liable to do with what you’ve already told her. Her agreement to keep it to herself didn’t exactly instill a sense of confidence in you.
Bobby seemed to sense your urgency, and had the horse drawn cart rumbling down the old dirt lane. But once he hit an offbeat path, overgrown with wildflowers and ferns, he eased up on the reins.
“Almost there, Y/N. When we get there, I’ll make the introductions, but then I’ll wait outside. Been thinkin’ on what you said before, about not wanting to put me in the middle, and I do appreciate that. I may not always agree with John, but I did pledge my loyalty to his family. Sam and Dean, they’re just as much my boys as they are John’s. Hell, sometimes I think even more.”
He paused, and gave a quick glance your way. When you didn’t respond, he looked back towards the path ahead. “I’d give my life to protect both those boys. That includes protection from John, not that it would come to that. I know he’s rough around the edges, but--”
“But, he’s their father. I understand that, Bobby. Trust me, the last thing I want to do is destroy Samuel’s father. Despite their troubles, I couldn’t do that to my husband.”
“I’m glad to hear that. I can see that you are on his side, Y/N. It's why I’m helpin’ ya. I know John’s up to something, and my place in his court puts me at odds with how to handle it. So, if you need some answers, the least I can do is help you get to them.”
As Bobby guided the carriage round a bend in the path, you felt a surge of energy before the small house even came into view. When you saw it, you knew that was where he was taking you. You were so transfixed on the house, you barely noticed Bobby slowing down and calling the horse to a halt. It wasn’t until he set the reins around the hook and climbed down, did you realize that you were completely stopped.
You carefully stepped down, and waited for Bobby to join you before taking the short walk to the old, wooden door. Enamored by the energy pulsating from the house, you were both excited and nervous to step inside.
Looking to Bobby, and swallowing thickly, you raised your brows and sighed, “Here goes nothing.”
The door opened before Bobby could knock. A tall, dark haired woman, dressed in a simple black dress with a plunging neckline stood before you. Her eyes were clouded white, but her smile beamed from ear to ear.
“Bobby, I always love when you drop by,” she greeted and reached out for the Maester’s hand to pull him into a hug.
“Pamela, beautiful as always.” He hugged her briefly and stood to the side. “This is Lady Y/N. She’s--”
“The wife of Lord Samuel. Oh, I know who she is. C’mon Bobby, I may be blind, the whole psychic helps with that,” Pamela laughed, and patted his shoulder before turning to you. “Now, let me get a look at you.”
Pamela reached out for your hand, and when you gently placed yours in it, she guided you inside.
“Alright ladies, I’ll be out here guarding Old Gus if ya need me.”
“Not joining us today, Bobby?” Pamela asked, slightly disappointed.
“Not today. Today, Y/N needs some answers and whatever revelations she receives, are for her ears only.”
“I see,” she said, and turned her attention back to you. “Well then, Lady Winchester, let’s see what the spirits have to tell you.”
Pamela closed the door slowly behind you as you stepped further into her home, you drew in a deep breath of mixed herbs, candles, and sage. It was comforting and yet rejuvenated your energy, just as the old Oak did in the Elven Woods.
“Please, have a seat.” Pamela motioned towards an worn, but cozy looking wooden chair, lined with plush red velvet. As she took her place directly at the round table, you slipped into the chair directly across from her and placed your palms flat on the table.
“The energy in this place is inexplicably strong,” you mused, taking in more of the room. Candles were lit all around, some on table tops, some sitting atop tall iron candle holders. Over the table hung an iron chandelier, with more candles lazily flickering in a light breeze; yet you noticed no open windows. In the center of the small, round table, stood an iridescent purple crystal set in a sterling silver bowl filled with water. Admiring your surroundings, you settled into your seat with a sense of peace.
Pamela reached her hands towards the middle, palm up. You placed yours in hers once again, and could immediately feel the vibrations coming through her. When you looked up at her, meeting her clouded white eyes, a slight smile appeared on her face.
“You’re a very powerful witch,” she said, then wrapped her fingers a bit tighter. “Taught, yes, but also born with the gift of magic.”
“My grandmother, Rowena. She’s a well known witch also born with innate magic. I suppose it comes from her.”
“I know of Rowena MacLeod. She’s… something alright. But your magic comes from a white witch. Your mother I believe.” She grew quiet, tuning in on your frequency, then nodded in confirmation. “Yes, your mother was a white witch. She’s passed, yes?”
“Y-Yes… I never knew my mother,” you replied softly, a twisted feeling bubbling in your gut.
“Okay, close your eyes, Y/N. Focus your mind’s eye towards the crystal in the middle of the table.”
You did as told and waited for Pamela to begin. You could hear her breathing begin to slow, and nearly feel the rush of air she exhaled through her nose.
“Amate spiritus obscure, te quaerimus, te oramus, nobiscum colloquere, aput nos circita. Amate spiritus obscure, te quaerimus, te oramus, nobiscum colloquere, aput nos circita."
Pamela repeated the chant a few more times, her will stronger each time. After the final pass, you opened your eyes and felt a cool air blew through the room, flickering the candles and casting erratic shadows to dance on the walls.
“I call upon you, spirit, show yourself. I call upon you, spirit, show yourself!”
From beyond Pamela’s shoulder, a pale blue mist began to swirl slowly, eventually taking the loose shape of a woman. It floated towards Pamela, and seemed to ensconce her with its light.
“Yes, I can hear you,” Pamela replied to a silent question. “Your name… to whom am I speaking…” She paused, awaiting a response. It felt as if time stretched on, but only a mere few seconds truly had. “Emmeline, yes, I understand. I give you permission.”
Though she had no external sight, Pamela’s gaze met yours for a moment, before she closed them tightly. When they opened again, gone were the clouded white orbs, and replaced by bright hazel eyes. You gasped at the change, then stared into them as if you knew them somehow.
“Y/N,” Pamela spoke, but it was no longer her raspy tone; this voice was soft and gentle., “My daughter… you’ve grown up so beautiful.”
The whole change that unfolded before you, left you breathless. You reacted without thinking and tried to pull your hands away, but the spirit inhabiting Pamela’s body wouldn’t let go.
“Y/N, please....” the voice pleaded, “stay.”
You allowed her to hold your hands, and tried to think of what to say. But for all your questions, not only about her, but about how to handle the King, went out the window. All your mind could decipher was that despite all your magical knowledge and understanding, you were sitting and communicating with the spirit of your deceased mother.
“How,” you whispered, “how is this possible? How do I know…”
“My sweet girl, you were born during a Harvest Moon, and I loved you from the moment I saw your face. Despite how you came to be…”
Recoiling slightly, you slowly shook your head. “I--I… I don’t know what that means. I have so many questions…”
“I don’t have long. Breaking through the veil isn’t easy, so I will try to answer what I can for you, child.”
Suddenly, everything you had come there seeking in the first place went out the window. Your blank mind began to grasp at the information you needed, but all you could think was that you were sitting across from a woman you longed to know your whole life.
“I don’t know where to begin. My father would never speak of you. Grandmother, either. They would ignore me, or change the subject. Why? Why wouldn’t they tell me about you?”
The spirit didn’t reply. Instead she let go of your hand and raised Pamela’s fingers to rest upon the center of your forehead. Instantly you were hit with a surge of energy that felt like lightning racing through your body. Gasping for air, your vision went dark, and a series of images played out in your mind’s eye. Fragments of your mother’s memories poured into your knowing as the pictures flashed before you.
Seeing her in her natural state was breathtaking. Emmeline had been a uniquely beautiful woman; her hair the color of spun gold, deep dimples--much like Samuel’s--when she smiled. You could see some resemblances of yourself in her, and it helped to settle the feeling of uncertainty you had rising in your gut. Seeing your mother, in her own body, practicing witchcraft at her own altar… the room filling with black smoke and taking over her body… Crowley entering the chambers and having his goons smash her altar to bits.
Another flash… Crowley and her mother, now possessed by one of his minions, in bed together laughing maniacally at the despicable things they did and were planning to do. Another… her mother’s body, very pregnant, still possessed, but now she could hear her mother’s consciousness screaming to be let free, for the demon to leave her and her child alone.
The images were coming faster now - death and destruction following Crowley and Emmeline’s body while she was carrying you inside her. Emmeline’s body on a dungeon floor, her eyes completely black and laughing as she gave birth to you. Then finally, one last image… this one was slow and lingered behind your eyes, as you watched the black smoke clear Emmeline’s mouth. Her body crumpled to the floor, but she was still alive and breathing slowly as she looked up to see Crowley holding a tiny bundle in his arms.
“Well done,” Crowley cooed to the heap of a woman on the floor as he stared down as his newly born child. “I promise, your efforts will not go unrewarded.”
“You can’t...take.. her,” Emmeline managed to squeak out. She pulled herself up to her feet, wincing in great pain as she found her footing. “She’s MY DAUGHTER!”
“Sorry, love. She;s mine. But, I can promise you, I will make sure she’s put to good use,” Crowley looked at the baby in his arms and smiled wickedly. “Papa has big plans for you, doesn’t he?”
Emmeline watched in horror as he lifted one of his hands from cradling the baby. Crowley ticked his head to the side and snapped his fingers. Emmeline began to choke, as her mouth began to spill blood down her dirtied and bruised form.
“Don’t…. Do…. this…..”
“Too late. It’s done.” He watched as Emmeline drowned in her own blood and frowned when she ceased making any noise. Her body fell back to the ground, her once beautiful, vibrant eyes now vacant and cold. “Well, that was anticlimactic, wasn’t, Y/N? That’s okay, daddy still picked a good witch to bring you into this world. Me and you, we are going to do great things together.”
As the vision faded and your eyes readjusted to the somber lighting of Pamela’s cottage, you could feel the sting of fresh tears soaking your flesh. Pamela’s body was sitting back fully in her chair, but you could still see Emmeline’s eyes looking back at you.
“I’m sorry to have to have showed you that, but you needed to know. Your father is a monster. I tried so hard to break free from that demon’s control, but I was helpless.”
The candles began to flicker before you even felt the icy cold breeze blow through the room. Your breath became visible in the air, and it made Emmeline’s spirit panic.
“No… I need more time!” she yelled, half in her own voice, and half in Pamela’s. Pamela’s body jerked forward, then back against the chair hard knocking the spirit free from her body. The same swirling blue mist filled the room, ricocheting from the ceiling to the floor, to the corners and back again while Pamela’s chin hung to her chest, her palms still laying flat on the table.
As quickly as she appeared, Emmeline was gone, leaving you feeling a sense of emptiness and dread. To have come so close to your mother, only to have her taken away again added a vat of fuel to the fire that burned inside you. The fire you would use to burn your father, and his Kingdom, to the ground.
The temperature began to rise and the candles finally steadied from the whirlwind that just blew around them. Pamela was starting to come to, slowly raising her head until her white eyes met yours.
Still shaken from the entire experience, her blank stare was starting to unnerve you. “Pamela?”
“I’m okay,” she said softly, her signature rasp still enough for you to know it was really her and not spirit. “That was… intense.” She reached across for your hand again, and though you honored her request, part of you was afraid to touch her again. “Your mother, you spoke with her? She showed you what you came here for?”
“Yes, she showed me…”
Pamela squeezed your hand and closed her eyes. “But not everything--”
Before she could continue, she was interrupted by a knock at the door, and the old wooden beast being slowly pushed open, allowing the day’s fading light to fill the room.
“Hate to interrupt the girl talk,” Bobby spoke up cautiously as she stepped over the threshold, “but are you ladies almost done? Day’s wasting here, and if Y/N doesn’t get back to the castle grounds before dark, I’m going to have some explaining to do to the King himself.”
You nodded in solemn agreement. You had come here for answers, though the ones you received weren’t exactly what you had been seeking. Unsure of how to process what you had learned, you turned to Pamela and smiled wanly.
“Thank you, Pamela,” you started, and felt the rest of the words catch in your throat. “I--” expelling a deep sigh, you rose from the table and tried again. “I can’t thank you enough for what you’ve given me.”
“But you didn’t get everything you came here for,” she replied, then stood up from her own chair. Pamela walked around the table with great ease for a blind woman, finding you immediately and putting both of her hands on your shoulders.
Pamela pulled you into a warm embrace and gave you a caring squeeze. Before she completely let go, she allowed her lips to linger near your ear for a brief moment and whispered, “The baby you’re carrying is going to be blessed with great power. It will be up to you to keep him balanced and not let the scales tip in Crowley’s favor.”
Jerking away from her, your eyes snapped up to meet hers as a small smile unfurled on her lips. She gently laid one of her long fingers against her lips. “Shhhh… that baby needs to be your secret, or danger will find him long before he’ll need to pledge his allegiance.”
“Ladies? Everything okay?” Bobby asked from where he still stood in the doorway.
“Everything’s fine Bobby,” Pamela replied, looking over your shoulder to flash Bobby her signature smile and wink. “She’ll be right along.” When her false eyes looked back on you again, her smile faded. “Keep him safe, and this child will one day sit on the King’s throne.”
“Y/N, I hate to bust this party up, but we really have to go.”
Still in a complete state of disbelief, you turned just enough to see the Maester impatiently waiting for you and nodded. “I’ll be right there.”
He threw up his arms and shrugged, before turning and heading back outside.
“Y/N,” Pamela said, and turned your chin so you were again focused on her. “I know you have more questions, I know you were seeking truths about the potion, and a plan to use it. Whether you chose to follow through or not, it will not change the outcome of what’s meant to be.”
“And what is that? What IS meant to be?” you pleaded. “And how could I already be pregnant? Samuel and I, we just… it was one--”
“What is meant to be is already in motion. It was put that way the moment you and Samuel came together. Twin flames, though born of different fires, can still come together to create a force of nature.” She paused, and gently rested her hand on your belly. “And this boy, he will be a force of nature.”

ZEP 109 ANALYSIS
SOME THOUGHTS on
ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST episode 1x09:
SPOILERS, BELOW:
There is a lot that I don’t understand 100% about what the show is trying to do... with Max “pushing* Zoey for answers to his confession of love” & his reaction to her answer about whether he should take the job offer...or even why they keep saying there’s a deep bond between Z & S, when all they’ve established is that they talked to each other about losing their dads & are physically attracted to each other. Or even why Zoey says that they kissed, when in reality he kissed her. Or Simon’s behaviour...which I don’t think is ONLY just about not dealing with his grief...and all that.
 * I don’t see it as him pushing her or demanding answers or anything like that. But this is the sense many get, hence I used this word
Tumblr media
I hear the showrunner & the characters talk about a “love triangle”, yet I don’t see one (just confused, grieving people). I hear them talk about a deep emotional bond between Z&S, and yet I don’t see it on screen. I see a pretty shallow connection due to their dads - “grief bond” with no actual deeper connection. And though I personally don’t “feel” that they actually feel attraction to the other, I’m willing to admit that perhaps each truly thinks they do...and actually find the other attractive. But nonetheless the story, to me, has clearly been told in a way that showcases the differences of the two men in her life.
One thing that kinda supports my theories is that while we & Zoey have heard Max sing her actual “love songs” (revealing that the connection they have is love, friendship, romance), then Simon’s “heart songs” have been mostly related to his grief (”Should I stay or should I go” is kinda an exception here). Meaning their connection is based on that, and his grief is what she’s supposed to help him with. All S’s songs have been about his inability to deal with the loss of his dad, and the problems in his life & relationship that have come from this. Which is why I’m still a bit confused why the show is calling it a love triangle, when it doesn’t really seem to be.
Since they all sing their innermost thoughts, and the songs are related to the feelings they have, and connected to the “problem” Zoey is supposed to help them with, then for Simon that seems to be “everything grief related” (he’s still not dealing with the loss, and it affected his relationship with Jessica..etc)...and I don’t understand why Zoey isn’t more actively helping him with that...instead focusing on “do I possibly have romantic feelings for the man?”, when she & Mo established that if she doesn’t help the person who she hears sing with their problem... that’s not good. I think THIS is the thing that has “confused” me. (but we all know network shows love their love triangles and such drama, so they have to play it like that..). So I really hope that in the coming eps we will see Z. help S. deal with his grief (she has her family, Mo & Max...who help her, but S. doesn’t seem to have any support system...) and “fix him”.
Tumblr media
Though there was not much Max or Z/M in this episode, there were a few scenes. The elevator scene & the “what do you think I should do?” scene. And we could see Max is practicing social distancing from Zoey. Because no matter how much he cares about her, and proved he’s a good friend by checking up on her & giving her great advice regarding her dad in last weeks episode, he really was hurt by her.
Also...one way he can minimize Zoey “reading his mind” is by removing himself from the same room. And since he doesn’t consider her knowing his secret thoughts fair if he can’t hear/know hers, then one effective way to prevent that from happening is not being around her. Maybe he doesn’t want her to hear that despite acting “hurt” he can’t “hate” her. Maybe he doesn’t want her to hear him sing about being hearbroken. Maybe.... In short: minimizing their contact might be related to something as simple as just trying to avoid her knowing his secret feelings... (the outer expressions & inner thoughts not matching)
Tumblr media
As to Max saying that she didn’t give him the right answer might’ve been about something else. And though we saw his facial expression change as she was saying that “The Zoey who sang a love song to him will miss sitting across him at the office, but would never stop him going after what he wants”, I think his answer might’ve been about her asking “Was this the right answer?” Cause that seemed to be the thing that made him make his choice.
Because that implies she was not being 100% honest with him, and instead giving him the answer she thought he wanted to hear. (we saw her do the same with Simon. First asking for his thoughts on the kiss, before revealing her thoughts...so she could base her choise on the other persons choice) It kinda does imply that she still doesnt know how she feels, and isn’t doing what she herself wants. Instead trying to guess what he think she wants her to say. Which is not what Max wants her to do. He wants her to be sure of her choice. Make her own choices. (and unlike many viewers seem to think... I don’t think he’s actually pressuring  her, or demanding a love confession as a response to his own. I see it as him listing the “facts” (options), and asking her for her take on it all.
I kinda think he made his decision because she asked “was this the answer you wanted?” more than anything else. Because this tells him that she doesn’t know what she wants. Though her answer “as the Zoey who sang that she is his...romantically” being so “not personal” might’ve also played a part.   And there’s another plot in this episode that actually gives us a hint what the whole “Max promoted to 6th floor” thing is about.
Tumblr media
< Edited for clarity: As said, I think her adding “was that the answer you wanted to hear” sealed the deal. But... if we look at what Ava told him on the 6th floor on that Saturday, then he was also looking for a different answer in general. An honest answer, and that she’s had some clarity about her feelings (and them) and all that. And also... some indication of a possible future possibility of them.
But... she have him no such answer (or hope), she included her answers as her boss, and friend, but left out the answer as “a romantic possibility”. (cause based on those 1x08 songs all Max knows is that she has feelings for 2 men & he’s one of the possibilities...yet she’s not showing any indication that she’s leaning towards the possibility of them M/Z.) And I think the order of her answer matters, too. She first replies as his boss, then his friend (and completely leaving out the third pole...which they both know based on the heart song is a role she has, because the songs reveal the persons secret inner feelings). And they’ve been friends for so long, but she’s been his boss for just a short time. So to prioritize that role over friends...gotta hurt, too. And in general her reply was centered around work and work hours - she’ll miss sitting across from him in the office, not that she’ll miss their friends movie nights...
So he’s gotta make a move... instead of just waiting for something that’s never gonna happen.  Cause we might know/see more, but all he knows is the little she’s shared with him. So to his knowledge the heart song is the ONLY indication she’s even considering “them”. He is a romantic at heart, and he “put himself out there”, yet she’s not given him any real answers (all the things she said in 1x07 that he then understood as “she just needs time because of her dad thing, and everything else” and accepted as we saw based on the 1x07 end elevator scene, and was willing to wait and give her space, became “untruths” in his eyes in next episode. So even if she spoke the truth then, he doesn’t believe those words anymore, so for him she has no clarity on the whole thing, and she’s not given him any “hope” or “answers”.)  Edited for clarity />
Tumblr media
Unless my other hunch is correct... That Ava is on a spy mission, and the whole recruiting thing is a plan related to the competition for a piece of code between 4th Floor & 6th Floor that is happening in the next episode.  Cause there are just to many coincidences: she approaches him on a day when the 4th Floor boss is gone (on a tech conference...which she might know because of the glitch in the watch software that shared everyones calendar events with everyone else...). And it was just luck that this followed an even where Max showed that he’s good at thinking on his feet (he actually did save the pitch by joining Zoey)  And we learned his past good work has also been noticed: the escape room.  This job offer also happens just before the company is about to get an important “job”. Too many coincidences.
And maybe Zoey/we are all wrong, and Joan & Leif both taking that same day off doesn’t mean they’re together, but that Leif is working on another side-project. We’ve seen his sketchy moves with Joan. We know he wanted the job Zoey got. So how do you “hurt” your competitor? You tear her team apart. It could be that Leif is behind this transfer. Cause last episode also told us that everyone in the office are actually very aware of what’s going on between Max & Zoey (interrupting them, hearing their talks & noticing that they’re not hanging out as much lately...which even Simon noticed. So he might’ve overheard them OR he saw S/Z kiss.). So the timing was also good cause IF there would be truth in this then Leif would know the best frends are going through a rough patch, so it was worth to take the gamble (he maybe couldn’t be 100% sure Max wold take the offer, but he might’ve been quite certain)
So much for wild theories.... (This one is topped only by Simon being behind the transfer...to eliminate his competition... when it comes to Zoey. Which I don’t think is true, but oh....what drama it would allow to be written...where he’s not aware that she can hear his secret thoughts & hence will find out. I would want this to be true ONLY for that scene) And though it’s 95% certain that both J & L “missing from the office” at the same day/time is no coincidence (read: they were together...which only makes me want to know more...is Leif playing her because he knows she wrote the peer review or ...not), and everything implies that Joan could not just “end it”, I sometimes enjoy coming up with wild/fun theories...
Tumblr media
One thing that maybe supports this theory of mine is the actors (Skyler Astin, who playes Max) comment that he started to call the 6th floor DRK POINT... which if we follow the SPRQ POINT logic gives us “DARK POINT” instead of “SPARK POINT”...meaning there is something sketchy going on.
And obviously he’s not gonna stay on the 6th floor, so something has to happen for him to return/be returned. Either it’s a scham, or someone (Joan, The Team, Zoey) “fight for him” & get him to return to the 4th Floor.
Also..the whole Max/Aca convo in the dark 6th floor parallels his “romantic storyline with Zoey”:
Max: I hadn’t really planned on making a move. Things are pretty fine for me on the 4th Floor.
Ava: Are they? Or are you stuck treading water? Waiting for something to happen that maybe never will?
Again...if we apply these words to the M/Z situation, then it fits, too. He’s “fine” with how things are going with them. And then the scary boss lady makes him question if he really is OK with it. Or is he stuck...waiting for something to happen between them... (for Z. to admit her feelings..etc) ...that may never happen... and as a romantic at heart... he needs to know if there’s a future possibility...
Tumblr media
The whole 1x09 Z & S plot was a shortened version of what’s been happening between Z & M in several past episodes. Zoey was reacting to Simon not giving her a clear answer. It actually tells us a lot about Z&M, and parallels that story.
Z: We have a chemistry & a bond that is undeniable. I guess I was hoping that after the kiss you’d have some clarity about all of it.  Clarity you still don’t have, and maybe never will. So... I have to make a change instead of just sitting around and waiting & hoping for something to happen. So this is me saying to you..officially... I can’t, and I won’t do this anymore.
If we apply this to the other duo, then the parallrels are obvious. What Zoey was feeling (about Simon’s answers) is exactly what/how Max has been feeling  about her answers to him. And the whole quote/dialogue by Zoey summarizes the other pairings story perfectly: Instead of clear answers Max has gotten vague half-truths from Zoey. If we change a few words/details (”after the kiss” = “after the flash-mob”, then this fits them, too).
And just like Zoey claims she can’t just wait for Simon to have clarity (which he can’t cause he’s not letting himself go through the stages of grief propely..etc) about his feelings,  while hoping something to happen, same applies to Max decision in this episode. His talk with the 6th floor boss tells us that this could’ve been a speech given from Max to Zoey. Cause this is exactly what he’s done by taking the job offer. He can’t just sit around waiting for her to catch up/for something to happen. This is him saying “no mo’”
Both for his & her’s sake. Cause he really needs her to be true to her words, and be 100% honest with him. Tell him how she feels. And he really does “deserve” an answer, not sort-of-answers (avoiding giving him a clear answer...no matter what it is). And she needs to make up her mind on her own, and do what she wants, not what she thinks she should do in his opinion. He wants her to choose on her own...without telling her what she has to do. He has shown her his cards (love confession via flash mob, saying that he’d choose love over lust...but she needs to make her own choice), and now it’s her turn.
This show is known for doing parallel stories. The work related story paralllels the personal storyline of the episode. In 1x08 there was a “glitch” in the watch program & a “glitch” in Zoey’s powers. And trying to fix them led to new issues arising. In 1x08 we heard about Tobin & Leifs SPELLaversary tradition..and in the end Leif sang "I put a SPELL on you” to Joan. And so on...
Tumblr media
This all leads me to a theory I've had about a coming song/dance number, and this weeks episode told me what the song has to be...IMO. To “solve” all this Zoey has to do a surprise flash-mob performance for Max. To Christina Aguilera’s “What a girl wants”, because if I look at the story so far, then those lyrics summarize the situation (whole s1 arc) almost perfectly. And since there have been kind-of spoilery rumours about another “heart song with a twist” happening later in S1, it matches. Just like the 1x06 flash-mob was real., so will be this one. And this time its not Zoey thinking that Max is just singing her his heart-song (it’s not real), now Max will think that Zoey’s “glitching” again... until he realizes that its real.
Tumblr media
As for Simon... I hope the show is not gonna go with the message: “Since he didn’t mean to do it then that makes it ok that he hurt his fiancee, and his grief-buddy" Even IF it really was all unintentional & he’s behaviour is all due to grief, that doesn’t make it OK to go to her house late at night without telling your life partner, it doesn’t make it OK to kiss her (when you’re still engaged)  just because she gave you signals that she’s into you... Nope... he can’t take that back. And him being a “good guy, who is just a mess” doesn’t make it  OK.
But... I am not so sure Simon’s not sketchy. I mean... he & Jessica clearly had problems before he ever got to SPRQ POINT. She seemed to want to help him, but didn’t really get him. He didn’t really confide in her, and really let her in on his feelings. Also... Jessica’s jealousy (the whole Zoey) thing could very well have roots somewhere... so perhaps this isn’t the first time he’s pursued other women, while being in a relationship? Of course it’s possible Jessica simply is/was jealous by nature, but maybe she has a reason/experience from past?
As for S & Z: their whole connection in built on a lie. He thinks she actually gets him, when that’s not true - she knows about his “grief” only thanks to her superpower. And you can’t really build a lasting relationship on “lies”... even if there is a connection (shared grief experience) that came AFTER the initial lie. Just think about when/if Simon finds out how/why it all began... that’s not gonna go as well as Max finding out about the games she played with him (that unnecessarily hurt Autumn in the end)...
Tumblr media
So there are two big things they can play with in the future that will help create the big drama they love - S. finding out that it all started because of Z’s superpower (she cheated in the game) and not because she could emotionally connect on her own. And in a nearer future Max finding out about the 1x08 Z/S kiss. Which has to come from her, directly, if she plans to stay true to her promise to be completely honest with him. And third could be S. finding out about the powers. (part of me thinks it should happen, part of me thinks it shouldn’t happen in S1)
Tumblr media
Either way... we know that there are going to be scenes/moments (heart songs) from/with both of the men. Whether these are “love songs” or “heartbreak songs” or “angry songs” or... something other... we don’t know for sure..yet.
But we do know that there are ONLY THREE EPISODES left of this  season. 1x10 on April 19th, 1x11 on April 26th & 1x12 Finale on May 3rd. And the finale brings us a very special “heart song” from/with one of the two men. So there are clear sings that by/in the S1 finale the show will “commit” to one of the ships. And since we have small bits & pieces about the coming eps & finale, we can put together a part of the puzzle already. And though it seems that the Finale will sadly be when Zoey says goodbye to her dad, there seems to be lot more going on. Work stuff/Team song, guest appearances by some past characters, Zoey revealing her truths and... more....

Marvel’s Netflix Originals & the Reification of the Prison Industrial Complex: A Prison Abolitionist Intervention on Jessica Jones
I just finished the final season of Jessica Jones on Netflix and overall I feel fairly ambivalent about it. I think the first season was by far the show’s strongest and I felt like the show lost some of its heart (namely through the way we see the corruption of Trish and especially Malcolm), but overall I felt like it held to some of its core themes, and I certainly didn’t hate it. However, what this season got me thinking about, and what I think becomes a clear problematic which repeats throughout many of Netflix’s Marvel originals shows is the way the vigilante role of the superpowered heroes is represented and played out: heroes demonstrate repetitively the failing of America’s criminal justice system, and yet ultimately reify the validity of these structures in very frustrating ways. Definitely spoilers below.
Before continuing, I do want to emphasize two things: first, this is intended to be an intervention on an incredibly prevalent problem, not a complete dismissal of the shows themselves. Considering how much of the Marvel Cinematic Universe centers on the stories of white men (frequently rich or middle-class, and exclusively canonized as heterosexual despite fan counter-readings), it is important to acknowledge the significance of Netflix shows centering their stories on women, people of color, and people with disabilities, as well as the way they, to some extent, address the social inequalities that marginalized communities and individuals experience. Secondly, I also do not want to suggest that all of the Marvel Netflix-originals have the same kinds of potentials; The Punisher, for example, does not, to me, hold the same possibilities as Luke Cage, and I’m not even looking at Iron Fist because I haven’t watched it and don’t intend to.
Let me first start by briefly discussing the concept of the prison industrial complex and prison abolition. If you are unfamiliar with the concept or the activism I highly suggest reading The Nation’s article “What Is Prison Abolition?” and looking at Critical Resistance, which was co-founded by Ruth Wilson Gilmore and Angela Davis. Taken from the website’s about, “the prison industrial complex (PIC) is a term we use to describe the overlapping interests of government and industry that use surveillance, policing, and imprisonment as solutions to economic, social and political problems.” What prison abolition is about “is a political vision with the goal of eliminating imprisonment, policing, and surveillance and creating lasting alternatives to punishment and imprisonment.” There are a number of excellent scholars/theorists/activists who discuss prison abolition, but here I’m going to be citing and discussing “Prison Reform or Prison Abolition?” (the introduction to Angela Davis’s Are Prisons Obsolete?) and Morgan Bassichis, Alexander Lee, and Dean Spade’s “Building an Abolitionist Trans and Queer Movement with Everything We’ve Got.”
Let me start tracing this argument through Jessica Jones by drawing out a few of the examples which initially brought this criticism to the forefront of my mind while watching this final season:
Corrupt Cops & the Need for Jury Evidence: while the show demonstrates the limitations of policing and the criminal justice system, it simultaneously acknowledges corrupt cops who are abusing their power and the inability of police to lock up a villain because they don’t have enough evidence or the ability to get said evidence. By showing these together, there is a suggestion that the two issues at once separate from each other and equally problematic. We do not see police officers acting without warrants, assaulting/shooting suspects (although in one scene, an officer threatens to shoot Jessica when she is smashing a gazebo and digging beneath the foundation to recover a body neither the officer nor the homeowners realize is hidden there up until Trish begins filming her), or acting outside of the law to collect evidence; instead, the show’s hero does many of these things in contexts which suggest she is correct to do so (again, the antagonist she is facing up against is a psycopathic serial killer who tries to kill her multiple times). The corrupt cop in this season is removed from the central action; his corruption allows Jessica to do what she “needs” to do (destroy evidence which will allow the villain to be incarcerated, to keep her sister out of prison), and is represented as being separate from the police force as an institution. There is even a way in which his actions are presented as being potentially justifiable: he kills drug dealers to steal from them. We are told this is wrong because they are kids and still have “time to change,” implying that if they were adults, their murders would be perhaps justified (and one officer even comments that “one of those kids” hit her in the head with a bike lock, suggesting that their age doesn’t matter); we are also told it is wrong because his motive is the theft, not “justice.” This again implies that things might be different if he was murdering drug dealers for dealing drugs, and again obscures the systemic inequalities which produce crime, as well as the way the PIC contributes to and benefits from these inequalities.
“Supers” and Prisons: acknowledged but never fully addressed is the significance of “supers” as an unprotected category. When Trish is arrested, Detective Costa informs her that the NYPD doesn’t have jurisdiction and that powered peoples are, apparently, not afforded due process of law. When Jessica is initially reluctant to tell the police that the masked vigilante is Trish and hopes to stop Trish herself, Jessica comments that no one really knows what happens on the Raft because no one from the Raft is able to contact the outside world. Given the context that Luke Cage’s powers came from illegal experimentation conducted on him while he was incarcerated, it seems possible if not probable that experimentation/medical torture is being conducted on those incarcerated on the Raft, and it becomes all the more insidious that Luke shows up to explain to Jessica that he himself had to send his brother to the Raft, and convince her to do the same. Essentially by addressing some of the extreme human rights abuses involved in incarceration in the real world through the metaphor of fictitious superpowered people being denied the (facade of) protections that are extended to suspected criminals, the argument being made is that even incarceration at its worst is a necessary and viable solution to crime.
The problematic of “diverse” cops: this is less centered in the narrative and subsequently has lower stakes than the other two examples I discuss above, but by representing a “diverse” police force, we are given the illusion that police forces “are” “diverse”, and that this means something. Costa, who is shown having “personal problems” in the form of going through the adoption process with his husband, who is worried about how much Costa is working and whether or not he will be more present as a parent, obscures the reality of homophobia in the PIC.
Davis argues that “the prison is considered so ‘natural’ that it is extremely hard to imagine life without it” (10) and the consequence of this is that “the U.S. population in general is less than five percent of the world’s total, whereas more than twenty percent of the world’s combined prison population can be claimed by the United States” (11). She goes on to raise the question “why were people so quick to assume that locking away an increasingly large proportion of the U.S. population would help those who live in the free world feel safer and more secure?” (14). Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher, and Daredevil, address, to varying degrees and varying success, some of the problems of the PIC: they acknowledge police corruption, wrongful incarceration, the effects of financial inequalities on criminal justice outcomes (namely in the power of the rich to avoid punishment), illegal treatment of prisoners (through experimentation/medical torture), the effects of trauma and poverty on the creation of the “criminal”, and the lasting effects of incarceration. However, the solutions suggested through these shows, at best emphasize alternative models of policing/surveillance (in the case of Jessica Jones, private investigator and serial trespasser, an increased kind of policing/surveillance) and reforming systems rather than abolishing them. The problem with this, as Davis points out, is that “frameworks that rely exclusively on reforms help to produce the stultifying idea that nothing lies beyond the prison” (20). Furthermore, the shows, for the most part, do not even call of for reforms or imagine reform as a real possibility anyways; they suggest empathy but maintain that prison or death are the only ways to stop “real” criminals. The prison is almost always the natural solution in these shows; the only question is who belongs in them and how they should get there. Worse, the only show which consistently deviates from the naturalness of incarceration is The Punisher, which suggests the better alternative to prisons might be revenge killings.
In discussing “the hero mindset,” Bassichis, Lee, and Spade discuss, essentially, the pitfalls of neoliberalism and argue that “stories of mass struggle become stories of individuals overcoming great odds,” and give the example of narratives which center Rosa Parks as “sparking” the Montgomery Bus Boycott through a solitary (“lonely”) act while obscuring the reality that she was an experienced civil rights activist acting in part of a series of civil disobediences (26). This is a general problematic of the superhero (and especially “vigilante” hero) genre, and it becomes particularly relevant in shows such as Luke Cage and Jessica Jones which are addressing systemic issues like racism, the prison industrial complex, and sexual assault/abuse in important (if imperfect ways). Superheroes, especially vigilante heroes, predominantly work alone; when they do team up it’s typically only with one or two others (Jessica working with Trish), short-lived (The Defenders), or both (Jessica sometimes working with Luke, Malcolm, and/or Erik). What’s important, is that they are vigilantes, working outside of structures or movements; while operating outside structures can have the potential to suggest alternatives solutions to the structures (ie the way that prison abolition looks to find solutions outside of policing/prisons), it also centers the solution (and problem) on individuals in ways which obscure the realities of broader structures. Even in these limited “team-ups” there is little to no potential for meaningful coalition between individual heroes and organizations/activist communities to address the broader inequalities which are being addressed/acknowledged.
This plays out in the third season of Jessica Jones in the way that it centers on a binary logic which runs: prisons or vigilante-justice through murder. The audience is told that the police don’t cut it, they can’t always know who's a “good” person or a “bad” person, and because of that “good” people are vulnerable and “bad” people walk free. The initial antagonist is a psychopathic serial killer making it easy to subscribe to this model. While it is perhaps better that the solution isn’t for Jones to kill him (again, this is the solution suggested in The Punisher), the problem is not only a reification of the prison, but that in order for this solution to be realized, Jones must take on a heightened policing role, following him, illegally searching his house, and chasing down leads the police overlooked. As Bassichis, Lee, and Spade point out, “the violence of imprisoning millions of poor people and people of color, for example, can’t be adequately explained by finding one nasty racist individual, but instead requires looking at a whole web of institutions, policies, and practices that make it “normal” and “necessary” to warehouse, displace, discard, and annihilate poor people and people of color” (23). The binary is further traced through Trish Walker, who herself becomes a (vigilante) murderer; she is partially excused (morally/as a character) of the murders, because her first two kills are assaults that go to far because she flashes to her mother’s murderer, and the third is her mother’s murderer. Furthermore, her role as a vigilante is contextualized through her own experiences of powerlessness as the victim of abuse. However, even as Trish represents a more morally ambiguous case for the need for prisons, the solution (prison) never addresses the issues we are told shaped her actions, nor any potential for other outcomes.

What do you think of the Fantastic Beasts ladies (Leta, Queenie, Tina, and Vinda) and what are your favorite headcanons for each of them? I love them so much and that's one of the reasons why I adore your blog so much, when most of the Fandom is strangely obsessed with a character we've never even met
I adore them!!! It’s no secret that Leta is my #1 fave *motions at my blog and its layout* but I have lots of love for Queenie too and I’m really fascinated by Vinda. Tina, I like too but I’m not a fan of how fandom acts as if she and Newt only come in a 2-in-1 package and how there’s barely a focus on Tina Goldstein, headstrong auror who got degraded for helping an abused young man despite knowing she put the Statute at risk, but almost excusively on Tina Goldstein, love interest and future wife of Newt Scamander. Because Tina on her is so amazing, she manages to pull herself up after said demotion which is implied to have took quite the toll on her; she almost singlehandedly raised her younger sister as a young girl and went looking for Credence because she cares about him and wants him to be safe!
And before I forget them, I know they don’t get a lot of focus from fandom, but I’m really excited to know what they’ll do with Nagini (as… controversial her whole story is, to put it in that way), if we’ll get to see Seraphina Picquery again - and I’m still sad they cut out the little plotline of her having something similar to a friendship with Tina!, and which role Eulalie Hicks will play in FB3 (and she’s played by none other than Jessica Williams!!!!).
Please though… the shade-throwing at OG Graves stans… LMAO now that’s a big mood. I won’t ever get it either, to be quite honest.
As for headcanons (I’m awful with them, to be honest, and some of them have been/will be incorporated into my fics):
Leta:
Wasn’t just a rebel at school but also at home. Think Sirius; constantly getting in trouble, breaking out of the mold at every occasion there was, the only reason why she was never disowned is because the sole heir of a dying branch can’t be disowned and she knew that. Also ran away from home multiple times in the summer break and would crash at Scamanders’. From the 3rd year onwards, Newt’s parents invited her to just stay for the whole summer if she managed to convince her father (she didn’t but it’s not as if Leta cared about that). Also she defo travelled through Europe after graduation on her own (th)e split with Newt had already happened) and had multiple relationships with women during that time. But Leta being Leta ( ☹ ), she always difficulties difficulty truly opening up, so it didn’t go anywhere and she left many broken hearts behind.
She’s friendly to all of her co-workers except the ones who abuse their power as aurors and those who don’t bother to hide either being pureblood supremacists and think she is just like them. If she hadn’t become an auror, Leta would’ve purchased a career in magizoology but leave Britain for good. She also has been in contact with Yusuf who does see her sister because he doesn’t hate the daughter for the sins of the father and Leta by all means is the complete opposite of Corvus IV.
Queenie:
She used to hate being a Legilimens because it alienated her from her peers at school. As a kid she easily got overwhelmed by it and only learned partially to control it in early adulthood. She didn’t have a lot of friends back at Ilvermorny but once she graduated and engaged in a different environment with grown-ups who didn’t know her from her school days, she became quite the extroverted person. Since she canonically takes care of Tina, who tends to overdo herself when it comes to her job, they go out together a lot.
She used to answer to people’s thoughts out loud much more often when she was younger and only does it occasionally nowadays. She gets quite upset whenever things don’t go her way or when someone manages to deceive her even when she is able to read them. Her boggart takes the form of her parents’ corpses.
Vinda:
She’s from an old Pureblood family and a descendant of the main branch (kinda like Leta). In her hometown of Avignon in Southern France they grew plants used for potions, most populary a specific type of rose, which is where they got their last name from. She met Grindelwald shortly after her graduation from Beauxbatons when he visited their family estate to talk to one of Vinda’s relatives, a fierce opponent of the Statute, and instead left with her who shared his ideas and ditched her plans to become the French equivalent of an Unspeakable at her Ministry to travel the world with the plans of starting a revolution.
I imagine her boggart to take the appearance of her broken wand. She is a middle child, with an older sister and a younger brother. She doesn’t talk with them anymore because being a known terrorist might endanger your family, but they, especially the younger brother, and her parents are very proud of her. Big yikes but that’s purebloods for you.
Tina:
Straight A-student at Ilvermorny; if teen!Tina would ever meet Hermione, it’d be like staring into a mirror. Tina is an overachiever later in life so it only makes sense for her to have been so earlier in life too. She and Seraphina Picquery became close friends despite Seraphina being two years older than her due to them being of a similar nature and would often study together in the library and spend their free time together, sometimes even just in comfortable silence. Graduated as best student of her year and was recommended to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement who basically showered her with benefits such as a new apartment and generous income despite basically being an “apprentice”.

Monogamish: The new rules of marriage | Jessica O'Reilly | TEDxVancouver
Tumblr media
Translator: Johannes Duschner Reviewer: Ivana Krivokua Wow, howdy, every person. I’m going to put down my cell, and fully resist the urge to snap a selfie to prove I was once sincerely right here. As Riaz said, my identify is Jessica O’Reilly, and i’m a sexologist. A sexologist is, actually, a real factor. Do you suppose me? Three of you, ok. So you’re all on the side of my father and mother, I get it, that’s cool, no difficulty. I acquired the tiger mother.Well, a sexologist; what does that imply? That means, I spend a whole lot of time speakme about sex. And almost no time definitely having it. (Laughter) but i am here today to talk to you a couple of severe discipline. We are in a time of obstacle. We have now a worldwide epidemic on our fingers and it’s airborne. It affects the younger and the historic and knows no geographical bounds. Now, this drawback will not be in contrast to different fashionable crises, the economic climate, climate alternate for illustration. But this drawback effects extra of us, in a more personal and perceptible trend. It tears families apart. It takes probably the most dangerous toll on essentially the most prone amongst us and it’s contagious. It is spreading. Yet somehow, we’re captivated by means of it. I am speaking in regards to the drawback of the modern monogamous marriage. Now, if I were to make you a 50/50 offer in any realm of your life, would you are taking it? If I mentioned, invest in my fund, there’s a 50 per cent danger you’ll be able to see a return. Or signal this trade deal, you’ve got acquired a 50 percentage threat of failure, however hello, why no longer? Or hop on this flight, you will have bought a 50/50 shot at making it to your vacation spot safely. Even though I provided you two free checked baggage, (Laughter) you’d quite often say no. However the cutting-edge monogamous marriage offers even shrink statistical odds when you factor in divorce rates and the premiums of infidelity. Now, in North america, divorce rates are over 40 percentage, higher, when you rely your 2d and 1/3 marriages. In my household oftentimes we go on even above three. Four, five, and 6. You understand already about my husband’s fights given that of Riaz. So I would as good expose some data. Infidelity premiums in North america are between 25 and 45 percentage, relying on who’s asking and who drank their truth serum this morning. And study suggests that pleasure premiums in marriage plummet after the honeymoon segment, by no means to get better. Scary. Now, many young individuals are simply opting to not get married. Marriage charges are on the decline. Possibly because they’ve heard that research suggests that married people are, in fact, no happier than their single counterparts. And have you heard of mate poaching? It appears, 60 percentage of guys – disgrace, disgrace – and fifty four percent of females – we’re not better, now not significantly better – have tried to woo any person faraway from their present partner. What is going on? So once we mix these statistics, we appear on the numbers. We see that in marriage 50/50 is in fact a excellent case scenario.Marriage is in a time of trouble. Now, i’m no longer suggesting that we get rid of marriage; i’m partial to marriage. I even picked one up for myself. (Laughter) i’ve been happily married to my husband for eight years, living with him for 13. What i’m announcing is that marriage is a failure in human design. It doesn’t matter that study says that marriage is just right for my wellness and even higher for men’s wellbeing, by hook or by crook they consistently win. And it doesn’t matter that we all go into marriage with probably the most noble of intentions, correct? To reside happily ever after, to love our accomplice unconditionally, to help them grow into the satisfactory variant of themselves. On the grounds that it doesn’t continually grow to be this manner. Considering the fact that of this failure in human design, marriage may also be restrictive in private progress, and even repressive in its demands of absolute monogamy. In any other realm, if we noticed failure rates like we see in marriage, we’d do some thing about it.When the markets tumble, we do something about it; we modify curiosity rates, we enact austerity measures, we enhance stimulus programs. Correct? (Laughter) If a automobile malfunctions by some means, we hindrance a don’t forget, in order that we can repair it. And if a superbug is unresponsive to a present vaccination, we go back to the lab to boost a new method. When some thing does not work, when anything doesn’t work, we innovate. So why do we be given the monogamous marriage in its current type, despite its design flaws? Would our relationships now not advantage from a stimulus package? A transitority keep in mind. Just overnight. (Laughter) isn’t it time we go back to the lab to dissect the problems, task the failing norm, and innovate? Now, some couples have already performed this. They reject monogamy altogether.Swingers for illustration, i do know numerous them. Shock, shock, the sexologist says. They have got sex with different men and women and it works for them. Polyamorous have emotional, intimate, loving, and sexual relationships with more than one companions and it really works for them. And open relationships are available a large range of forms which might be custom designed via each couple or threesome or foursome, or moresome, Now, i know many couples for whom open relationships have worked, Rosa and Dan for illustration. After 22 years of marriage, they mentioned, "anything’s gotta provide." Their phrases, no longer mine. In order that they decided to open their relationship up and now they have fanatics throughout North america, and they couldn’t be happier. However like monogamy, open relationships simplest work for an awfully small number of people. An estimated 4 to five, no longer forty five, four to 5 percent have tried it with a good degree of success. The trouble with open relationships is that the majority of us just do not want one. We’re k with other folks being open, but we don’t wish to share our companions. Fortunately ever after with one genuine soul mate has been too firmly ingrained in our subconciousness, due to the fact that birth. So what we have now decided to this point is that over right here we’ve the monogamous. Monogamy works for a small number of men and women.Over here we have now the non-monogamous, and that works for a good smaller percent of humans. And the relaxation of us, we fall somewhere in between. So what about the relaxation of us? Dishonest is not an choice. I am now not even going to go there. So how do we find our happily ever after? Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed company, I post to you that the solution is to don’t forget the gray field of the monogamish. (Laughter) This time period has been around for a while. I recall listening to it as a kid once I don’t have been taking note of my mom and dad friends again within the 80s, however it became popularized by way of sex columnists, Dan Savage, more recently. And Dan used this term to explain his relationship wherein he’s emotionally, and almost, and lovingly monogamous with his associate, but sexually they may be allowed to do different things. As a way to me, that is extra of an open relationship. So what I suggest is that we first-class-tune the term – the philosophy of monogamish – to make it extra obtainable to the relaxation of us, who fall into this gray area. Let’s use monogamish to take the monotony out of monogamy in a technique that preserves the sanctity, the protection, and the comfort of our relationships. So, monogamish, what would this seem like? Monogamish couples would appear to extramarital sources for sexual stimulation. But only in thought, now not in motion. So if i am monogamish, there could were a volunteer backstage that was kinda lovable. So I took a second seem. I am hoping I did not make him uncomfortable, certainly not making him uncomfortable. I could have had a destroy and inspiration about him slightly. I could consider about him later tonight. (Laughter) but i am by no means going to behave upon that concept. And this suggestion and ideas find it irresistible which can be forbidden in so many monogamous relationships, admitting to this idea serves to further stabilize my relationship due to the fact when we put these forbidden thoughts out in the open, we serve to scale down their vigor, and we scale down the possibility that we will really act upon them. So, we now have notion, but no longer action, after which we have now talk, but not contact. So monogamish couples could appear to extramarital sources for sexual arousal and pleasure in a talk format with no contact. Flirting with different persons involves mind as a particularly just right instance of this. So, endure with me a second.Picture this: you are at a bar, you’re with you companion. Say you are together with your husband. And there is a waitress and he or she’s kinda cute. No longer too lovable. (Laughter) we all have our limits. So you tease him a little: "She’s rather lovable, isn’t she? I believe she was once checking you out. You seem sizzling tonight, Babe." She fully wasn’t checking him out, however they all like a excellent stroking of the ego.Along with your coaxing, maybe, he even flirts with her somewhat. Probably you get in on that flirting, too. Certainly displaying her the utmost respect and respect to your relationship. At the finish of the night time, you go dwelling together, you and your husband, not the waitress. (Laughter) Let’s be clear right here. You go house and you proceed the delusion. You weave it in the bedroom. You even talk about having a threesome. "Oh Babe, you seem so scorching tonight. I thoroughly wish to carry her home with us. Yeah, i’d like to, definitely, don’t you wish to have four palms on you? Can not you assume, i would like to share you." it can be simply talk. You pull out all the stops. You force him right into a frenzy and then you definitely each get off, you have a fine time. When you’re carried out, you take him by means of the hand and seem him within the eye and you say, "do not even suppose about it." (Laughter) And he is aware of and says, "Of course not, Babe, that was once mighty, thanks. You’re all i would like. Can i get you some thing, a beer or a cheeseburger?" (Laughter) isn’t that the way it should perpetually finish? Very well. You ruin the norms of inflexible monogamy without ever touching a further man or woman. It’s just speak. The entire flirting, all the myth, the 4 fingers, the waitress. You are by no means going to that bar again, by the way. So one shot deal. It’s just talk, nothing more. Now, we’ve proposal, but now not action. We have speak, however now not contact. And then we’ve got couples, who make this foray into monogamish territory, they usually find it irresistible. They appreciate in it, and so they say, " what? Things have on no account been better. Let’s take it to an additional level." those couples might decide, "Let’s go to a strip membership. Let’s get a few lap dances." a few years later, perhaps they work their manner into the back room, the champagne room. I do not even know what goes on in there. (Laughter) possibly they love the soiled speak aspect they usually wish to carry a third character in, however they don’t want the threat of an actual live man or woman in the flesh. So they call a telephone intercourse line collectively. I know, it is not 1982, but they still exist. And so they make a lot of money, it is a lucrative enterprise. Might be they understand any one who is a swinger, they usually’ve been invited to swinger events. Now, they do not wish to swing, but they just like the thought of the environment, of being round this style of erotic aspect; the brink, the attractions, the sounds, the smells. No longer the smells, put out of your mind that. Simply the sights, and the sounds, and the vigor. What we need to don’t forget is that monogamish is a mindset, no longer a fashion. You’re making it what you choose. If the strip membership does not enchantment to you, do not go. If the concept of flirting with a real are living character appears simply too risky, don’t do it. Perhaps you decide instead to sign into a chat room collectively or use a cam carrier for a little little bit of nighttime enjoyable on a Saturday night. There is no universal formula for happily ever after. And there is no components for monogamish. I’m with no trouble suggesting that we could improvement from in view that choices beyond the rigid norm of monogamy. So now, you’re pondering, "k, monogamish sounds good, i love strippers." (Laughter) correct? And now guys do not even have six-packs, they have eight-packs. It does not sound bad. You’re considering, "This sounds k, but how do I get over my insecurities? How do I maintain the jealousy? A part of me would wish to tear that kind-of-lovable waitress’s hair out.Or I do not want this ripped guys grinding up on my wife. I can’t control that. I won weight for the period of her pregnancy, had a number of cravings. Can’t anticipate a man to have a six-percent after pregnancy, right? So these are all valid considerations. I can not support you with the six-percent, but every couple deals with these jealousies, these insecurities, these challenges, of their very possess method. Some take child steps. They don’t dive into monogamish, they do it a little bit bit at a time. They would begin by means of with no trouble admitting to which celebrities they to find attractive. It might take them years to work their way as much as certainly divulging their deepest, darkest fantasies. But these years, that procedure, is what makes it sizzling. Somewhat little bit of fear and nervousness, balanced with love, comfort, and security is the best recipe, not only for love, but for lust. Other couples, moreover to taking little one steps, they decide to compartmentalize their monogamish aspect of their relationship. They are saying, "I quite like our relationship as it’s. I like a bit of bit of monogamish, however not too much." So maybe, they make a rule that they simply speak about fantasies that comprise different people on particular occasions.Or Tuesdays, or the month of March, anything works for them. Maybe they love the idea of flirting with other men and women due to the fact flirting is a lot fun, it brings out the sexual animal in you, it boosts your self-esteem and it can absolutely be kind of sizzling to watch your partner flirt with any one else, below the right consensual situations. However maybe they simply do this once a yr, when they’re on vacation.Or possibly that bar with the waitress is too just about dwelling, so they just do it when they may be collectively at least 200 miles from their place of origin; anything works for them. Some couples, they go after monogamish they usually push their boundaries too far they usually grow to be regretting it, but remorse isn’t tantamount to disaster. Errors are the important studying and growth opportunities in a relationship. When we believe of monogamish or we believe of relationships, you could believe of it as a rubber band. That you would be able to stretch it in this course, but it still goes back to its stable form.Which you can stretch it over right here, and it does not imply that you ever have got to do it again for those who don’t adore it. And if you happen to stretch it this way, it does not imply that the next time – the next day to come, subsequent month, subsequent year – that you just have got to pull it further. Correctly, you can also not need to due to the fact it can snap. What we have to recognize is that growth and relationships are elastic. They don’t seem to be inflexible. Now, as we appear at monogamish, we cannot just seem at anecdote and conjecture, we also ought to appear at the science of why monogamish relationships probably the panacea we search in accordance with this epidemic of the failing monogamous marriage. There are, of path, no universal algorithm for a victorious relationship. Nevertheless, there are some add-ons that tend to be reward in happy, lasting marriages. The first is dependancy-shaped, emotional expression. Scientists wish to sound fancy. It way speakme. Speakme about your feelings. The nice, the bad and the unpleasant. Admit when you are jealous, admit when you’re feeling slightly bit off. That is principal. The second entails a steadiness between connectivity and freedom. It’s all headquartered in self-expansion idea. The self-expansion thought explains that we’re most pleased in our relationships when our companions present us opportunities for development. Humans; we’re animals, and we’re programmed to search trade, to seek novelty. Now we have a starvation for it. And when our partners feed this hunger, we’re more pleased with them and extra drawn to them. Now, the third factor of a joyful relationship is an active sex existence. An lively sex lifestyles does not imply that you simply have got to be swinging from chandeliers or doing it every day, or per week, or each month. It simply implies that you put some effort into your intercourse existence. Even the Pope and the Catholic cardinals and the bishops comprehend this. Do you know why? Final week on the Vatican, these celibate men had a symposium on marriage. They got together to talk about what makes a marriage work, however they did invite in gurus. And one informed couple from Australia, who has been married for 55 years, instructed this crew of fully celibate guys that their sex existence has been, and remains to be, of paramount significance.Very fascinating to me. Now, in my job, I work with couples from all world wide, thousands per year. And what I’ve seen is that after couples recollect opening up their definition of monogamy, even within the smallest of methods, it forces their relationship to thrive on these core factors. Emotional expression, connectivity balanced with freedom, and an lively intercourse life emerge as the norm, as soon as you begin to peer monogamy alongside a continuum. I will provide you with an instance of those observations. I host a reality show, sorry to say this, and the reality show is for PlayboyTV, but i’m proud to assert that this reality exhibit is without doubt one of the few actual applications on television. So this show is about a big crew of swingers living in a house and every weekend I deliver in a new couple, a novice couple, who has never swung earlier than, so they can make a decision if probably they want to try it for themselves. This condo is called "The Swing house," however I call it my individual lab because it enables me to realize couples of their really average habitat; anticipate for the cameras and stuff like that. (Laughter) You fail to remember that they’re there after a couple of minutes. Some of these novice couples, who have not ever swung before, they make a decision to dive in headfirst. They understand that swinging was once supposed for them. Others, alternatively, understand very speedily that they don’t seem to be cut out for sharing their companion. And the interesting factor is, I realized a lot from this 2nd team in view that they don’t wish to be monogamous, they usually do not need to be swingers. However the mere possibility of opening up their relationship definitely brings them nearer collectively. They’re compelled to talk about their feelings. They’re pressured to steadiness the needs of the couple with the wishes of the character. And of course, it can be the PlayboyTV Swing apartment, so without doubt, they are pressured to suppose about their intercourse life. Now, I wish to be particularly clear, monogamish couples should not swingers. I only use this example due to the fact that many of them make a decision not to swing. Actually, they’re practising a variation of monogamy. We would call it monogamy 2.Zero, and their marriages are thriving. Now, will becoming monogamish retailer a failing marriage? Of course now not. It best addresses one factor of the connection, the intimate phase. But that is an primary aspect, along with youngsters and cash. Sex is likely one of the most contentious issues within the ultra-modern marriage. And although monogamish is not going to retailer a marriage, it can be the lifeline we need to tilt the scales in favor of the institution of marriage. We ought to do some thing about monogamy as our default environment when you consider that we’re in obstacle mode. This problem, the failing monogamous marriage, is pushing us onto the brink of a brand new frontier. The monogamish resolution could seem radical, but what is our other choice? Failure? Whether we want to confess it or not, each couple in this room and every couple available in the market is at hazard of failure. It is a statistical truth. So I depart you with one question: Would you don’t forget tilting your viewpoint and opening your minds to the probability of the monogamish, if it supposed you could look after your relationship from this concern, strenghten your bond, and expand your chances of dwelling happily ever after? Thanks.(Applause) .
