How I’d rewrite HOO with my Dream Team Seven P.2
I bet your thinking I’m about to do the son of Neptune? Well your wrong this post is going to be about the Quest for Buford. Except I’m redoing it so that we can focus on some pretty big things that happened in my Lost Hero rewrite. For all of you that didn’t see the post or just didn’t read it. I’ll summarize what happens for you.
Hunters of Artemis are annihilated like all of them are dead.
Thalia gets her arm sliced off
Leo and his Cabin-Mates have tension
Jason has all his memories back and as such is lowkey suffering
So basically what I’m going to do is retool the side story Quest for Buford so that it has more impact on the characters as a whole. So let’s just hop right in so that I can geek out on you. But let me just tell you the title of the new side book.
Tumblr media
Back In Black
(Get it cause Thalia is wearing the black leather jacket instead of the silver hunting one. It’s also a reference to the AC DC album)
Let cover the main characters of this book.
Thalia Grace
The main character is this side book because let’s be honest we deserves some more of her as a main character. Here Thalia is still basically adjusting to having her life flipped on it’s head but has the support of her brother (Jason) and old friends (Annabeth & Percy). The quest of this book is that Artemis gives her a quest to hunt down a big game and prove herself “worthy” of being a hunter of Artemis again. She has a time limit of a week before she is just kicked out of the Hunters. (Even though she is the only Hunter left). The reason she has to prove herself is because she basically abandoned them in my rewrite to help Jason with his quest. But where will she find big game? Well that’s where another main character comes in.
Leo Valdez
Here Leo serves sorta the same role he served in Quest for Buford. That role being the comic relief and creator of conflict. So yeah the same thing happens with Buford running off except he runs off because Leo and sibling have an argument which scares Buford. Who has the part Leo needs and a little something else. The details of the argument aren’t said until later. So yeah he goes to recruit help to find Buford. That help being Jason,Drew, and Thalia. Sadly Drew can’t help because she is still trying to smooth things out with her cabin. So that leaves Thalia,Leo,and Jason to contain the problem. Speaking of Jason.
Jason Grace
You think that Jason would be doing a little better since he has all of his memories back. Well you’d be wrong because his relationship with Piper is on the rocks thanks to the memory of Reyna, his sister is suffering and now has to do a dangerous quest, and he feels like everyone is against him since he is a Roman in a Greek camp. So yeah Jason isn’t doing too good. When Leo comes to get him he is happy because he needs a distraction from everything.
The Story
Now all the cards of this story are set and the players are in their places. Now let’s get this story started cause it’s Thalia time baby.
So the story opens on Thalia going through her recovery period. We see how hard it is for Thalia to operate with one arm and get a deep dive into her thoughts about the Hunters Annihilation. This eventually links to the Luke and the Great Prophecy situation. However as usual Thalia tries to keep things under wraps while with her friends because she doesn’t want to admit to a weakness such as when she got angry at Percy for talking about her fear of heights when he found out. We then get a sweet moment between Annabeth and Thalia just talking about the whole Luke situation and closing the conversation with Annabeth saying she’s happy that Thalia is around more often.
Which makes Thalia think some more on why she joined the Hunters aside from Zoe’s death and escaping the Prophecy and eventually just comes up blank. Though before she can really do some more thinking Artemis appears before her and scolds her for leaving the Hunters behind for a male. This brings back Thalia’s guilt about the situation full force. Then Artemis let’s her what she has to do to prove herself worthy of being a Hunter again.
Right after Artemis leaves,Jason and Leo basically bust down her door and tell her they need her help with finding Buford. Of course Thalia is gonna help because remember right now she thinks that she failed the Hunters so helping out her little brother will make her feel a little better. But Chiron basically stops them and says Thalia is still recovering and they will need to leave. The boys are bummed and frustrated but Thalia tells them to just come at night and she’ll sneak out to help them. This earns her a point in Leo’s book cause remember he’s a troublemaker and sneaking out is cool in his book.
(I’m trying make Thalia & Leo a couple but I have to build up their friendship first for it to work. Also Leo needs serious character growth)
So anyway they come to get Thalia at night and she sneaks out of the infirmary. They then continue on their way into the forest. Along the way Jason, and Thalia ask Leo what he needs their help for. Leo then tells them about the whole argument with siblings and Buford running away but doesn’t give the details for what the argument was about. They say if his siblings are bothering him they can talk to them. To which Leo responds that he doesn’t want their pity just their help.
(In this rewrite the part that Buford has helps make the ship fly so their won’t be some life erasing explosion in this version)
Eventually they happen upon the Maeneds that worship Dionysus. So yeah they see them tear apart a dragon with their bare hands and wisely decide to move away from them. However Leo notices that Buford was torn apart by the Maeneds but the storage part of him that has the stuff is fine. Thalia also realizes that the Maeneds would make excellent big game because of how dangerous they are and if she traps them without hurting them she’ll win back Artemis’s favor. So now they decide to worry about that tomorrow and sleep on it.
When they wake up tomorrow Thalia is deemed fit enough to be let out of the infirmary by Will Solace. (I figured I might as well show he exist before Blood of Olympus) Thalia now only has 6 days left to catch the Maeneds. Leo then calls the group back together and they go back to the clearing and see the Maeneds are gone but Buford’s compartment is still where it was the night before. Leo then runs down grabs the compartment and comes back to the siblings. He now has the part he needs and that little something else.
He then shows what it is to reveal a robot arm for Thalia. He tells her they are a bunch of functions like a built in bow, shield, and even a net thrower. She ask why he made this for her. He says that he made it because he didn’t want his friend to look so down. She then pulls Leo into a hug while thanking him. This is important because this it helps build up these twos friendship before they move into crush territory. Leo is embarrassed because he’s not used to people giving him physical affection.
We then see Thalia now equipped with her robot arm try and track down the Maeneds. With Jason and Leo being her backup. We the run into the Maeneds again but they struggle because the Maeneds are just way stronger at this point than any of them. So they have to think smart. This is where Thalia’s leadership skills get to shine. She tells Leo to do a smokescreen on the Maeneds. Then for Jason to hit them with some lightning while she runs in to get them while they’re disoriented.
The plan sorta works because Leo’s smokescreen disorients the Maeneds and the lightning does strike them but most of them manage to get away with Thalia only managing to net one and even then she can sorta get out if she struggles hard enough. The three then reconvene and determine that this won’t work unless they have a bigger advantage of surprise. The Maened then breaks the net and runs away leaving them to try again tomorrow.
We open the next day with Thalia trying out the crossbow function of her new robot arm and with Leo supervising it to make sure it works. Jason then comes in and ask how the arm is. Thalia says she likes it with Leo joking that of course she would like it. Jason then asks for a sparring to really test it out. Thalia accepts and they duke it out. Here we see a big difference of fighting style between Greeks and Romans.
The difference between the two is that the Romans have a more defense style focused on tiring out their opponents. While the Greeks fight more aggressively and try to take their opponents down quickly. We even see this is the canon book series with Jason fighting more defensive while Percy is all about slashing and killing.
Eventually it comes down to a draw though only because Jason’s mind wasn’t completely on the fight and focused on something else. Thalia being the good big sister she is notices and ask about it. Where we learn that Jason’s relationship is on the rocks because of him remembering his old life at New Rome and how he’s different from the person Piper remembers.
Thalia said hen chimes in and tells him that of course he’s different from the person Piper remembers because he isn’t that person. That the person Piper remembers is the person Hera wants her to remember. She then ends it off with saying that no matter what person he is he will always be her little brother and she will always be there. They then end off the conversation with a hug between brother and sister.
We then fast forward to the last day that Thalia has to catch the Maeneds and prove herself. We then get some internal monologue about the whole quest and her thoughts about the whole new friends and past family she now has. We get the final assault on the Maeneds with the same strategy as the last time except Thalia is no longer rusty and Leo now has sleep has to use on them all.
Jason then ask why Thalia wanted to capture them with Thalia spilling the beans about the whole quest Artemis gave her. After spilling the beans,Artemis appears in a brilliant flash of silver. She then basically gives a whole spiel of how Thalia is now worthy and now she just has to come with her. Thalia is initially ecstatic because she can go back to some semblance of normalcy.
Then as she turns around to say some goodbyes she see how sad Jason & Leo are. This then triggers her to remember the talk with Annabeth about Luke. This cause her to realize that she’s been running for away from from all the problems in her life. She then decides not to run for once.
So yeah ultimately Thalia thanks Artemis for allowing her to be Hunter but she wants to stay with her friends and family. So yeah then they walk back to Camp-HalfBlood joking all the way there.
Conclusion
So yeah now I completed all the things I feel like I needed to complete before I move onto my Son of Neptune rewrite. I have effectively made Thalia stay in Cqmp and develop a tiny bit. Drew is more than a one dimensional bully archetype. Jason is building more of a character. Leo is decent as always around this part of the series but having the changes to keep his character consistent.
Well now I feel I’m ready to the Son of Neptune but not right now the long post format is getting to me and shifted interest a little bit back to the teen titans and DC whole. (Though I will probably be making long post about DC so watch out for those cause boy do I have some opinions)

The EagleOwl Swap Part 2- SON au
yeeehawwwww this time we are looking mostly from Frank's pov, with some povs from Annabeth and Hazel, cuz this is Frank's quest :D Also both Frank and Hazel are the same age in this au
It's June, so it's blisteringly hot as Frank runs for his life from monsters he has killed five time already, goddamit Gaea-
Hera shows up right outside the camp, helps Frank kill the monsters after he brought her across the river, then spouted the prophecy of the seven, then leaves without elaborating
Frank spots someone showing the middle finger at Hera when she isn't looking, and recognizes her and the person next to her as the entrance guards. He shortly becomes friends with Annabeth, who hates Hera despite being amneasic, and Hazel who is just the sweetest
Reyna introduces herself to Frank, questions him and despite looking very strict and all, we realise that she doesn't really give a damn about the rules. How she became praetor is beyond her. Also she's tired form maintain camp by herself with Jason gone.
Fitting into the camp sequence, where we get a few tidbits about Jason and Reyna. Apparently Annabeth hasn't been claimed by god despite already being 16. Most people would think Annabeth is Minerva''s daughter, but Minerva doesn't do the whole kid shtick, and romans are very wary of things that doesn't fit in the mould. Her only friend is Hazel, who doesn't make a lot of friends cause she fears she might go to the underworld anytime, so no need the heartbreak. (Hazel you poor smolo blorbo)
Its War games Time. Mars shows up in the middle of the games, ruins Frank's day by telling him he ain't the child of Apollo, but his, ordering him to go to the monster-filled Alaska to get the eagle the fifth cohort lost within a week or let the camp be destroyed. He then proceeds to leave before elaborating. (i'm sensing a pattern with the gods)
After the senate finally allows Hazel, Annabeth and Frank to go, the quest ensues. We start with Hazel getting the flashbacks and visions, Annabeth being very unsure of herself, especially when they meet any monster and start taunting her about a guy named Percy, who she has no memory of sadly.
Gaea gives Annabeth her memories of Luke, Thalia, and her dad, but without the context. "Luke abandoned you for Kronos, Thalia did for the Hunters, your father for your step-mom. you really are unlovable, aren't you Annabeth Chase? Don't worry though, you will be loved again when you join me" (We are making Gaea step up her campaigning in this au She's actually trying to spread propaganda this time)
Hazel gets traumatised by another flashback from her fainting spells, and spills the beans to Frank, whose keeping lookout. Frank, to make Hazel feel better about revealing her secret, tells her about his secret, the wood stick. Frank's a sweetie, so is Hazel and they might be falling for one another, who knows
The trio have their first shared dream with the tlh trio, with Gaea monologuing about their doom (except annabeth if she joins), except Piper and Leo cut her off with a knock knock joke while Hazel's like, "Sammy? What the (insert swear word here) are you doing here with the Ludiocolo here."
They promptly get kicked out of the shared dream, followed by Frank who insulted Gaea, then Jason for recognising Annabeth and telling her Thalia is looking for her, ruining the manipulations Gaea had planned. So she's falls on her backup plan to make annabeth fold, mentioning Percy vaguely before dissolving the dream zoom session.
Annabeth's confused becuz who is he, Hazel's also confused cuz Leo looks a lotttt like Sammy, her sorta ex, so is Frank because he has no clue what the hell to do. The amazons give a very hard time for Annabeth for reasons unknown ( could say that with a lot of monsters) and Frank doesn't die through the power of nepotism.(Thanks Reyna, it was super lucky your sister was the head of the amazons huh)
Other shenanagins, like the one with Iris, Protecting Ella, and getting an almost heart attack from Tyson who is estatic to finally see Annabeth again.
We stop a while at Frank's house, where her grandma dies due to an attack from Gaea's forces, thus adding another member to the list of "demigods who hate Gaea with a burning passion" (Leo, Piper, Jason and Hazel are on the list. Annabeth hates her, but not enough to get into the list. Yet ) Frank unlocks his animal powers for the first time, and they decimate the forces thanks to Hazel's powers of misdirection and Annabeth being an excellent strategist
we reach Alaska, where Frank gains the eagle, hazel frees thanatos and annabeth knocks the giant out. They drag him across the border before killing him with the eagle. Thanotos rewards each of them for their efforts: Frank's life isn't tied to the wood anymore, so now Frank can actually start to consider what to do with his life instead of fearing for when it might burn and kill him, Hazel gets an official pass for escaping the underworld, and while she will continue to have fainting spells, she now has a new chance of life she doesn't know what to do with. Annabeth gets told about Luke's sacrifice, how gaea lied and that he did care about her when it mattered most, and Annabeth is relieved that she isn't as unlovable as Gaea claimed to be.
The feast for fortuna battle: Frank fights of the monsters thanks to the powers of the eagle, Hazel shows that cavalry isn't something to sneeze at, and annabeth kills of a giant with the help of the god guarding new rome.
Frank gets promoted to praetor, Hazel kisses him on the cheek, and though they are scared about the new chance for life they were both given, they promise to handle it together.
Hazel's happy cause now she has a horse, Frank's happy cause he's finally made his family, who's looking from the afterlife, proud of him, and has overcome his insecurities about being a son of Mars, Annabeth's happy because she killed a giant, hell ya
The next day, Hera shows up, tells the trio that they are part of the prophecy of the seven before pointing to the ship that's flying towards them and saying: "Oh btw that has your other fellow prophecy members. Athena's gonna give you a quest soon get ready". She issues the mission to make peace with the greeks and join forces together against gaia, gives Annabeth back her memories refuses to elaborate and leaves.(What's up with these gods and leaving without elaborating)
Post credit scene: Annabeth has a vison/dream/nightmare (courtesy of Gaea) the night after the battle in rome of mortals getting posessed and killed being Gaea's playthings, before someone, possibly a demigod shows up in the dream and becomes a puppet under Gaea's control, then kills Frank, Hazel, a few people she doesn't recognise before killing her, as she begged for him to stop. She wakes up, and she has a very very very bad feeling about this. After she gets her memories back does she realises that the people the demigod was killing was her friends at CHB, and the demigod in question was actually Percy. A very very bad feeling

Fight Me Part 2
Summary: Nico prepares for his date but it seems someone has forgotten.
Warnings?: Nothing much. A bit of kissing. Some fluff.
A/N: FJLKJLHGK, I completely forgot that i wrote this and that i was gonna write a part 2. Anyway, my exams are next week and i haven't revised so wish me luck. Little tribute for @thebigqueer and their old blog description of ‘people make fun of me because I’m short but I can reach their knees’ because lateron, Nico embodies that. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy! <3 from me!
Read Part 1 on tumblr       Read parts 1 and 2 on A03
It was 7:30
Will was late.
“Hello?” Nico turned around. “Anybody here?”
The sun was going to set in around an hour and half and somehow, the sky was already getting darker. Nico could feel the sun's rays getting weaker and the warmth slowly draining away.
He had a small bag clutched in his hand with a collection of his favourite mythomagic cards and a couple of sandwiches and some bottles of juice. It certainly wasn’t a banquet but at least it was something and Nico had assumed that Will would have had a tiring day after working in the infirmary during a day of capture the flag ( The Ares kids were always involved).
He lifted his wristwatch to his line of view to glance at the time, noticing that the time was moving annoyingly fast. If it continued like this, it would be sunset and Nico would have officially been stood up. He could feel his chest prickling in anxiety from the idea- that all along it was a sick joke, made only so everyone could make fun of him.
“Hello? Anybody?” It was almost eight and Nico was getting agitated. Sure it was normal to be a bit late, even if it was a date that Will had asked him on but 45 minutes? 45 minutes late to a date? Nico was finally so sick of pacing behind his cabin like a loser, he worked up the nerve to march over to the infirmary to give Will a piece of his mind.
As Nico entered what he believed to be the infirmary, he questioned if he was in the right place. Then it hit him. The infirmary was so crowded, Nico couldn’t even recognise it. It was full of campers, from many different cabins, all covered in injuries and blood. This room, to surgeons, was like candy but with blood, which as Christina Yang had said- was way better,
That was only, of course, if you weren’t meant to be on a date with your cute ex-patient.
To Will, the sudden influx of patients infuriated him. He was meant to be having the best date of his life with Nico but instead, he ws here treating all these stupid injured buffalos who were too incompetent to prevent themselves from being injured.
“Next time, if an Ares kid threatens to break your leg, you should take them more seriously,” Will sighed as he finished the cast on the Athena camper’s leg. Weren’t these ones meant to be smart, Will thought.
His eyes searched across the infirmary, for the next most urgent patient; as head of the Apollo cabin, he was in charge of the infirmary which at first had sounded great. Now, he realised, it was not.
He was about to assist on setting a broken arm but he saw another healer get there first and simultaneously, he saw a very recognisable set of onyx eyes that came with a stunning appearance.
Nico was wearing black skinny ripped jeans with a chain hanging by the waist of it. His stygian iron sword that never left his side was being held to his waist with a skull strap and Nico’s eyeliner was absolutely perfect. Winged and angelic, his eyes were standing out like never before. Nico had been a bit nervous about wearing eyeliner outside of his cabin, but after much persuasion from Hazel, Jason and Percy, he had agreed to wear it.
Will thought he felt his mouth drop. But then, he felt his heart drop. Why was Nico in the infirmary? Was he involved in the fight? Was he hurt? Will rushed over to Nico, pushing through the injured masses, ignoring their shouts and snaps of discomfort. He waded through them like thick oceans of blood until he managed to spot Nico’s hand, decorated with expensive looking rings.
“Nico,” Will gasped, his eyes running up and down, scanning his body for injuries. “What are you doing here? Are you okay?”
Nico’s winged eyes squinted. “ What am I doing here? Did you forget?”
Will’s mouth opened and then closed again, his brain clearly racking for what he had forgotten.
“Our date. You were meant to meet me an hour ago,” He mumbled, raising his wrist to his face, checking the time once again.
Will’s face dropped, his expression ghostly. “ No! No, no, I can’t have forgotten- it wasn’t today. I could have sworn it wasn’t today.” He turned to Nico. “ It wasn’t today, right?”
“It was today.”
“Fuck.”
“That’s a good response, at least,” Nico murmured, kicking his boots at the bloodied tile floor.
“I'm so sorry. I got hoarded with patients, like hoarded. The Ares kids had some new weapons made today and the Hephaestus kids thought it would be fun to mess with them. Somehow the Athena kids got involved and I think there are some Dionysus kids who got involved just for the drama.” Will grabbed Nico's hands, squeezing them with such intensity, Nico feared they might break.
When Nico looked at Will’s face at that moment, he knew he was going to say ‘yes’ to whatever was about to be asked of him. Whether Will just wanted some gum or if he wanted to burn the entire world; there was something alluring in those eyes that Nico could simply never deny. “Nico, fuck, please give me another chance. I know I shouldn't have stood you up like that and I really wasn't planning to. It’s just, we got so many patients all at once that it completely slipped from my mind and-”
“-I’m not mad. A bit annoyed, yes, but I get it. You have people to fix. Go do your job.” Nico paused for a moment. “But one thing. Next time you almost stand me up, a note or a messenger would have been nice.”
Will frowned. “I thought I sent a note?”
Nico paused again. Did he send a note? Nico’s memory racked- did anybody come to give him a note? He couldn’t distinctly remember it.
The only thing he remembered was someone running to his cabin, panting and him slipping himself into the shadows, avoiding whichever body had come wandering into his domain- he had not been in the mood to interact with anybody other than Will (Or maybe Hazel or Annabeth because they always knew what to say and when to say it).
Woops.
“Oh, That note you mean. I might have hidden from the messenger in the shadows…” Nico trailed off, looking everywhere but Will. Expecting a loud scoff or perhaps a jeer, Nico could feel his hands clenching up, ready to get him out of this situation. But when he heard a little giggle and saw Will giving him a genuine little smile and holding out his hand, he couldn’t help but be surprised.
“I know that I’m currently meant to be working but I guess taking a little break couldn’t hurt. Besides, I haven't eaten a proper meal all day and those sandwiches look delicious.”
Nico happily let Will lead him to the room reserved for the staff who were in this case, just the Apollo kids. But then he stopped.
“You haven't eaten all day? Will, what the hell? You were nagging me the entire of my stay here to eat and you don't even do it yourself?”
“I do eat, it’s just sometimes, I forget to because everybody is being stupid and trying to fight their healers,” Will huffed as he grabbed a sandwhich and stuffed a bite into his mouth.
“What idiot tries to fight their healers?” Nico asked as he took a sip of juice. They were sitting in the corner of the ‘staff room’ which in reality was just the back room. It just had 2 bare beds for quick resting and back up medical supplies. There was a bare sink and a couple of cupboards which were most likely empty. The freezer however, had several pints of ice cream.
“Oh who tries to fight their healer? Must I remind you of your behaviour every time you're in this infirmary?”
Will opened a pack of chips that he had managed to snag from one of the other healers; he doubted they’d notice. Well, he hoped they wouldn't notice.
“I can’t be that bad.” Nico batted his hand in the air, his hand reaching over to Will’s pack of chips and stealing one. Will smacked his hand and gasped, showing his mock offence.
“Oi! Those are mine!”
“Says who?” Nico argued. “ I happen to know you stole them!”
“Yeah but finders keepers!”
“I will fight you for those chips,” Nico snarled. Will, smiling wickedly, held his front; not in the least intimidated by Nico's violent demeanor.
“Perfect, now we finally fight. After all, I did tell you that I’d fight you later when you were recovering.”
“I’ll turn you into ashes.”
“Nu uh, I don’t think so. Remember I have regeneration,” Will boasted. They were both now standing, their food abandoned on the table.
“If I remember correctly.” Nico moved forward for the attack, “You told me you wouldn’t fight me because you knew I would win.”
Will gave a smirk. “You were ill. I couldn't tell you the truth.”
Nico squinted his eyes and waited for Will’s punch. He didn’t expect for Will to be waiting for his; Oh right, Will always fights defensive
But then he realised that this could be used to his own advantage. He went in for an attack, his leg going round to kick the back of Will’s knees, making him buckle to the floor. Nico was aiming to disable him from moving, not hurt him.
I may be short, but that just means I can reach your knees.
Will let out a rueful laugh, the game was on. Just as when Nico went to grab Will's arm, Will used his other arm to grab Nico and used all his strength and Nico’s momentum to flip Nico onto his back so that when Nico looked up, He saw Will's smiling face.
Nico rolled away, quickly forcing his way up. They both stood facing each other, none of them throwing a punch or a kick. They were dancing around each other, around their feelings. Nico ran into Will and used every force in his favour to force Will to fall onto the bare bed behind him. They landed safely with an oomph and immediately Nico got to work in immobilising him.
Nico quickly straddled Will, trying to grab his arms but Will, while not the fastest, was relatively strong. He managed to grab Nico’s arm, stopping him from being trapped. He then used all the strength he could summon from his abdominal muscles and managed to flip Nico so that it was him holding both of Nico’s arms above his head, effectively pinning him to the bed.
Nico struggled but Will was too strong. He had tried to flip Will back onto his back but it was too hard so he settled for trying to wrestle his wrists out of the blond boy's grasp. They were panting and their faces were close enough that they could feel each other's warm breath on each other's face.
Nico felt his eyes being drawn to Will’s lips and then his ocean blue, like eyes. It was a magnet being drawn across Will's face and Nico had no choice but to follow it everywhere. From the perfect slant of his cupid’s bow at his lips and the fullness of his lips to the half lidded eyelids that covered his deep eyes. The eyes that we're currently analysing Nico’s face, in the same way he was doing to Will’s, right this moment.
Will felt Nico’s wrists stop resisting as much in his grasp as his eyes slowly drifted to his own. Their eyes locked. Ocean Blue met Onyx. The sea had met the depths of the earth and it was only the roaring sound of their own blood being pumped ferociously by their hearts that acted as the soundscape of the ocean as Will lowered his lips to meet Nico’s in the most tentative of kisses.
Their lips brushed gently, as a taster and then, Nico slipped one of his supposedly trapped wrists out of Will’s hands and slid it around Will’s neck, pulling him to deepen the kiss. Will’s face felt heated as he moved his hands from above Nico’s head to cup his face; he could feel the heat radiating from it.
They broke apart- only for a second- but alas, even that felt like too much. Their lips found each other again, even in the darkness of the room, due to sunset and yet they were only in the dark for a matter of seconds. Nico, despite having his eyes closed, could feel the soft glow of Will’s skin.
“Hey Will, Where did ya g-” The startled young healer was stunned before cringing immediately at their older brother.
“-Oh god, Will, My eyes! My eyes have been scarred, dear, good gracious Gods, Help me!”
Nico’s hands flew to Will’s chest, pushing him off while Will himself made an attempt to scramble off Nico. They keyword there being attempt, because the next thing he knew, Will had stumbled and managed to trip Nico into falling face first into Will’s chest, straddling him and thus making their situation so much worse.
“What do you want?” Will groaned at his younger sibling, as Nico climbed off him, slowly burying his face in his hands out of embarrassment.
“You have another patient to fix.” The kid was now holding his hands over his eyes- something that deeply irritated Nico.
“Oh calm down, it’s not like we were doing anythi-”
“-Nico!” Will cried. “ Go out and find someone to cover for me. Tell Kayla she’s in charge; I’m off for the night,” Will declared as he grabbed Nico’s hand, kicked open the back door and fled into the early night with Nico, hand in hand.

Mistletoe
So @granger-chase made a post about wanting a mistletoe fic, then @annabetncnase reblogged it wanting one, and I got inspired. Then that inspiration turned into a lot longer story than I planned for anyway here’s this: I thought the fandom could use a little more Percabeth Christmas Goodness! :D I hope ya’ll enjoy!
XxXxXxXxX
“If you change the playlist, I’m drop kicking your Playstation out the window, Jason.” Percy called out as he heard the Christmas carol pause, before resuming a moment later, if not a little quieter.
“Can’t you choose something less… boring?” He asked, walking around the corner of their small apartment. Raising an arm he leaned against the wall, staring at his roommate. Percy just ignored him as he ripped open another bag of chips, dumping them into one of the few tupperwares they had. “Grab the sodas.” He ordered, walking past Jason towards the tiny kitchen table that usually served little more purpose than a coat rack, aside from the occasional last minute, panicked study session.
For once though, it was actually cleaned off properly, and he had even grabbed a tablecloth from his mom to borrow for the night.
“It’s a Christmas party, Jason. We’re supposed to play carols.” He explained, snagging a chip and eating it before turning to face his best friend.
Jason grabbed a chip himself, rolling his eyes. “Yeah yeah, tis’ the season and all of that. But there could be a little more pep, you know?”
Percy paused, his shoulders slumping. “Maybe you’re right? Maybe modern stay stuff works better?” He paused, thinking for a moment. “But Hazel is coming over too so I don’t want to play too messed up stuff.” He glanced up at Jason, looking for help.
Jason’s usual cocky smirk faded as he looked over. “Hey, I was just complaining. You’re fine, I’m sure they’ll love it.”
Percy nodded. “That’s cool then…” He trailed off, glancing over the table of snacks and sodas. “Think we need more? I know Piper and Annabeth said they were bringing food but…”
Jason walked over, resting a hand on Percy’s shoulder. “Hey man, chill. Alright? Everything is fine. We still have some time and we’re just hanging out with some friends. I know you’re getting stressed.”
Running a hand through his hair, Percy shook his head. “I’m not stressed, I just want to make sure things are… right.”
Jason gave him a deadpan stare, making it clear he wasn’t falling for his crap. “Dude, your leg is bouncing as you’re freaking out over whether or not we have enough chips when I don’t think we’ve had this much food in our house in a month.”
Staying quiet, Percy couldn’t exactly refute him. He knew himself well enough to know that his stress was starting to peak. “Okay, maybe a little.”
Pulling out a chair, Jason sat down and slid the other chair back with his foot, motioning for Percy to sit down as he took another chip. “Talk.”
Resisting only for a moment, Percy sighed and sat down, dropping his head into his hands. “I know, I’m stressing out. Sorry. I’ve just… never had a party or something like this. Usually my mom took care of things when I had friends over. Plus she’s coming over.”
“She’s been over countless times.” Jason offered, letting his friend continue to get out what he needed to.
“Right. But… I want tonight to be the night. It’s been so stressful around her. You know… since…”
“Since you fell in love with your childhood friend?” Jason helpfully offered, laughing at the stricken look Percy got on his face. “Don’t say it so loud!”
Jason rolled his eyes and dipped a chip in the onion dip. “Yeah, I almost forgot it’s the worst kept secret in the world.”
Glaring the blonde, Percy narrowed his eyes. “Aren’t you supposed to be nice?”
Shrugging, Jason returned the look. “I am, dude. When I met you two you were practically joined at the hip, and I’ve never seen that change in all these years. But since you started…” He paused at Percy’s glare. “...thinking differently about her, you’ve been stressing out over the little things, freaking out for no reason, and frankly we’re all getting a little worried about you. What you need a push in the right direction, for your sake.”
Percy knew his friend wouldn’t lie to him. After Annabeth, Jason was his best friend for sure.
“I know it’s cliche but I really don’t want to screw things up between us. Even if she might feel something too… I don’t want to do it wrong. I wish I could handle things as well as she does. She’s still so… perfect. ”
Jason rolled his eyes but kept his mouth shut. His girlfriend was Annabeth’s roommate, and he had heard first hand how objectively false that statement was. Percy was a victim of being hopelessly in love, which meant he had a habit of missing out on obvious things about Annabeth. The way her usual fluid speech tended to get flustered around him, or the way she had gone from a comfortable companionship with Percy, to jumping at the chance to be with him as eagerly as percy was. Even the way her eyes always were always drifting to him, with a soft smile he never saw her wear any other time.
It was painfully obvious these two dorks were head over heels for each other, but were too scared to admit it. What really drove Piper and Jason crazy were that they were pretty sure they both knew it as well. After all, they did know each other better than anyone. They were just choosing to ignore it, writing it off as them just being their usual friend.
Still, if Jason had to catch them being a moment away from kissing without going through with it again, he was about going to lock them in a closet until they were engaged.
“Trust me. She’s got it as bad as you do. Tonight is the perfect opportunity to do it right.”
Percy looked up at him. “You think?”
Jason laughed. “I’m pretty sure you could confess behind a 7/11 and she’d still say yes dude. You just need to actually go for it.”
Percy nodded. “Maybe you’re right…”
Jason could sense his hesitation, but also the spark of confidence in him. Maybe tonight all of them could finally be put out of their misery. “Come on, we still need to put up these lights.” He said, grabbing a box of small tree lights and tossing them at him.
Percy nodded, clearly grateful for something to do other than think and started to move to a corner to figure out how they were going to attach them to the walls without damaging them while Jason pulled out his phone. He sent a quick text to Piper.
XxXxXxXxX
“Do you think this is enough food?” Annabeth asked, pacing back and forth as she looked at the two pizzas, the bowl of pasta salad, and a tray of brownies for dessert.
Piper raised an eyebrow. “Are you kidding me? Even with the appetite of Jason and Percy, there aren’t that many other people there. We’re bringing plenty and Hazel said she’s bringing Jambalaya, and Leo was bringing his famous tacos. We have plenty, stop stressing.”
Annabeth nodded. “Right. That’s fair. I don’t have to eat if we start running low too.”
She paused, looking down at herself. “Are you sure I look okay?”
Scoffing, Piper glanced at her best friend up and down once again. “Please, I dress you you myself. You look cute, don’t worry.”
The blonde nodded again, twice. “You’re right. Thank you.”
Piper just shrugged. “If I left it up to you, you’d still be standing in front of the closet.”
Annabeth flushed slightly, running a hand through her hair. “I just wanted to look nice, is that so bad?”
Piper paused, noticing the slightest hint of hesitation in her voice that made the joke seem a little less innocent than normal.
“You’re fine. Any reason you’re so nervous though?” She asked, not so subtly opening the door for the conversation she knew they would be having before they left at some point anyway.
Pausing, Annabeth opened her mouth to deny it before she dropped her head against the wall.
“Tonight could be… something.”
Piper was stunned, Annabeth was usually full of a lot more denial, or subtle about her “crush” on her best friend. If you could still call it a crush based off how long she’s had it and how much it had been distracting her lately.
“Are you going to confess?” She asked gently.
Annabeth hesitated for a moment before shaking her head. “I don’t… probably not… I just. I just think Percy might… being thinking the same thing of me.”
Piper screamed internally. Her friend was one of the smartest people she knew and so incredibly dense at times it hurt. She was glad Annabeth was working through her fear of being rejected or abandoned by him to take the next step, but if she spent a minute not being lost in his eyes, she would be able to see how adorably head over heels he was for her. The number of times she had seen the poor boy practically collapse in on himself with regret when he let a chance to kiss her slip by, or he fumbled his words.
“I’m… glad you’re starting to see that.” Piper said carefully, reigning in her own frustration at the fact her two best friends were depriving themselves of happiness out of pointless fear. Annabeth could be touchy at times so she knew she had to tread carefully. “Just remember, Percy has fallen for you, the person whose been by his side longer than anyone. Don’t try and change yourself. He’s seen you at your best, and at your worst and he’s still by your side. All you need to do is reach out a hand and he’ll meet you there.” She offered gently.
Annabeth fell quiet as she let the words sink in.
Piper leaned down a bit to get a better look at Annabeth’s expression. She saw a mix of determination and concern. A look Piper often saw her with whenever she tried, and usually failed, to take the next step with Percy.
Her phone buzzed, and when she checked it she saw Jason’s text and grinned. It seemed like the stars were aligning for things to finally happen tonight. Typing out a quick response, she moved over to Annabeth. “We have a little time before we need to head over. Let’s squeeze in an episode of The Great British Bake Off before we head over so you can relax. This is supposed to be a fun christmas party, remember?”
Annabeth stared at her, and nodded after a moment. “Yeah.” She said slowly, grateful for the moment ceasefire on her lovelife.
They moved over to the couch, and a few moments later they were lost into the episode.
Glancing down at another text from Jason, she grinned. Tonight would be a bit night if their idea worked.
XxXxXxXxX
The sound of a few knocks on their door had Percy heading over to it too quickly. He opened it, shoving down the pointless nerves he felt.
The door had only been open a minute before Piper had shoved a bowl of pasta salad into his hands that had been balanced awkwardly on the pizza boxes as they made their way up the stairs before.
“Trick or treat.” She said with a wink as she walked past him, setting down the boxes she carried before throwing her arms around Jason’s neck to share a kiss with him.
Annabeth was standing awkwardly in the doorway. Her arms were full of the rest of the food as she looked at Percy. “Hey. Merry Christmas.”
Percy grinned at her, before his gaze drifted upwards to see the santa hat she had on. Adorable. Blinking once, he realized he hadn’t answered her yet. “Merry Christmas, Wise Girl. Now come on, I need you to prove my point to Jason about chips.”
Annabeth looked confused, but nodded and followed him, closing the door behind her.
“Jason says plain Lays chips are better than Ruffles.”
Annabeth looked horrified and made an indignant sound. “Are you kidding me?”
“Right?” Percy agreed.
The blonde woman crossed her arms, glaring at Jason. “How could you say that? Ruffles have texture, are much better with any kind of dip, and are actually more than just salt.”
Jason rolled his eyes. “Don’t drag your best friend in to win your arguments for her.”
Percy took a bite of a Ruffles to make a point. “If you weren’t so stubborn I wouldn’t need to bring in the big guns.”
Piper leaned up and kissed Jason’s cheek. “Sorry hun, but they’re right about this one.”
Jason huffed and moved over to the couch, plopping down on it and looking away.
Both Annabeth and Piper laughed, as Piper moved over and sat next to him, messing up his hair and chatting with her pouting boyfriend.
Percy glanced over at Annabeth as she made her way over to him. “You guys actually did a good job decorating and cleaning, I’m impressed.” She teased.
Around the room various Christmas decorations had been put up. Tinsel was hanging from most things, they had a tree propped up in the corner that was decorated in pure chaos. There was a random assortment of reindeer paraphernalia across various surfaces.
Letting out a sigh of relief, Percy grinned. “I’m glad you liked it. It took us a while.” He paused. “I’m glad you dressed for the occasion.” He said, nodding his head towards her santa hat.
Annabeth laughed. “You know me, Ms. Christmas Spirit.” She countered.
“You say that like it’s a joke.”
Percy challenged, knowing full well how much she actually enjoyed the holidays.
Going to take another chip he dipped, Annabeth’s hand shot out as she grabbed the chip from him and ate it, grinning at him. “It’s the season for giving.” She said to his scandalized expression.
He was clearly about to protest when someone knocked on the door again.
He gave her a glare letting her know that it wasn’t over, before he moved over to the door.
When he opened the door he saw Frank and Hazel standing there, all bundled up and smiling. He shared a quick hug with Hazel before bumping Frank’s fist as the lead them in.
Not much longer after, their group finished getting there as they spread out across the apartment. The carols had been turned up, and Leo was currently belting along with Mariah Carrey as his girlfriend laughed next at him.
“Tyler and Ashe aren’t coming?” Annabeth asked, leaning on Percy’s shoulder as she looked over at Piper.
Piper shook her head. “Nah, they had made plans already apparently.” She said, before turning her phone around and showing Percy and Annabeth an instagram post. Tyler and Ashe were kissing, standing in front of a display of lights that Percy recognized to be at the zoo.
Annabeth laughed. “There is zero chance they aren’t engaged by our next christmas party.”
Percy nudged her hips. “I’ll be amazed if they aren’t engaged by spring.”
Jason laughed. “Sounds like we need a new bet.”
One round of betting later, and soon they were chilling on one of the couches. Percy was devouring yet another slice of pizza, while Annabeth worked on a bowl of Jambalaya, her legs draped over Percy’s lap.
He was currently chatting with Jason about a new game that had been announced, giving Annabeth a chance to just see him laughing and smiling and she couldn’t do anything but smile.
Eventually turned back to look at her, causing her to shove a spoonful of food into her face to try and look like she wasn't just staring at him.
Behind them, Jason and Piper shared a look as Piper got up, moving to their balcony outside for a moment.
Jason stood up a minute later.
“Percy, do me a favor, come with me for a second?”
Percy glanced at Annabeth, before nodding and untangling his legs from her. He followed Jason off to one of their rooms for a moment while Piper came back and moved over to Annabeth. “Okay, Annabeth. I need you to trust me.”
“No.” She replied instinctively, making Piper roll her eyes. “Then trust Percy.”
“Why?” Annabeth asked, red flags instantly being raised.
“Look, he prepared a surprise for you tonight. Jason told me about it, but we need you to stand up and close your eyes.”
Annabeth paused for a moment.
Piper’s voice went softer. “Please?”
Sighing, Annabeth figured she might regret this later but stood up anyway and closed her eyes.
“Good. I promise nothing bad will happen. Besides, I still live with you so I don’t want you mad at me.” She said, before gently resting her hands over Annabeht’s eyes from behind and started leading her. “Just walk, trust me.”
“I know exactly where you sleep.” Annabeth warned as she let Piper lead her. A minute later it was a little chillier and she realized she was on the balcony. “Just where are we going?”
“Just wait a minute, it’s almost ready.”
Piper stepped back for a moment, leaving Annabeth shivering slightly as she thought of all the ways she’d make Piper’s life a living hell if this was a trick. A second later she heard Percy’s voice and her heart rate spiked.
“Where are you leading me? I never trust you, dude.”
Percy’s voice sounded just as confused as her. A moment later she heard him stumble next to her. “This better be worth it, Jason.” His voice sounded right next to her, making her jump. “Percy?”
“Annabeth?” They both asked, as they heard the sound of a door being slid shut.
Annabeth opened her eyes to see… nothing special. They were just out on the balcony.
Percy opened his a moment later and looked at her expectantly. “So…?”
“So? I thought you had a surprise.” Annabeth countered.
“But they said…” The gears turned in Percy’s head. “I’m kicking his ass.” Percy said as he turned, before pulling on the door and trying to step through.
Instead, the door didn’t budhe and he slammed into the glass.
“Don’t tell me…”
Annabeth said after a moment.
Percy dropped his head against the class. “It’s locked. I’m actually going to kill him.”
He turned around and leaned on the balcony. “Great. Locked out of my own party.”
Annabeth nudged him with her hip. “If it makes you feel better, I got locked out too.”
He shook his head. “Of course it doesn’t. You’re the one person I trust to keep them in check.”
“Why do you think they did it?” Annabeth asked after a moment. If they bothered with this dumb prank, they had to have a reason. Glancing over her shoulder, she saw Piper staring back at them with an amused, if not slightly apologetic look. And a finger pointing straight up.
Glancing up, Annabeth’s stomach dropped.
Hanging above the sliding door was a mistletoe.
“You’re kidding me. That little bi-”
“Are you serious?”
Percy said as he saw it too.
They glanced at each other, before they both flushed red and looked back out at the skyline.
“I’m burning her present.” Annabeth said after a moment.
“I’m dropping his down the fire escape.” Percy countered, before they both started laughing. “We’ll get them back for this sometime.”
“Naturally.” Percy agreed.
Annabeth shivered slightly and she felt Percy’s jacket drape over her shoulder. She raised an eyebrow. “Thanks, but won’t you be cold.”
He shrugged. “We won’t be out here long but you get cold easily.”
Annabeth sighed. “I guess we know what we need to do.”
Percy’s face was red, and Annabeth was pretty sure it wasn’t just from the cold. “I guess.”
He turned to face her, and Annabeth’s pulse was pounding. They tried their best to ignore all of the eyes watching them.
They stared at each other for a moment, before they started to move closer.
Annabeth’s eyes closed as she tried not to panic over the fact that she was about to kiss her crush.
“Wait.”
Her eyes flew open at his words. Instantly it felt like a sword had pierced her heart. Her fears were true, Percy didn’t see her that way. “I-” Before she could try and come up with anything to say that wouldn’t end in tears, Percy continued.
“I can’t do this.”
She nodded her head, feeling tears well up in the corner of her eyes. “I know. I’m so-”
“Annabeth!” He snapped, making her look up surprised.
“I can’t kiss you like this. I… like you too much. I love you. But I don’t want you to kiss me just because they are forcing you to. My heart can’t handle that. You deserve bet-”
“Percy!” She interrupted, her brain melting. “Did you say you love me?”
He nodded, unable to meet her eyes. “For a while now. I just…”
“I love you too.” Annabeth blurted out before her courage could fail her. “For so long. But I wasn’t sure… I didn’t know if…”
They stared at each other for a moment while Piper’s words echoed in her head.
Just reach out a hand.
Slowly Annabeth reached out a hand, and found Percy’s entwining with it.
Leaning forward, she pressed her lips against his as they shared their first real kiss. It was brief, and they looked at each other for a moment, before they leaned forward again and kissed each other in the cold night air. Annabeth’s other hand slipped up into Percy’s hair while his wrapped around her waist and pulled her closer.
Time seemed to fade away, and she felt warm in the cool night air next to him.
They kissed for a minute more before they separated as they caught their breath.
Percy had her new favorite goofy smile on his face as he kissed her nose briefly. “I think we can go back in now.”
“They can wait.” Was Annabeth response as she leaned in for another long anticipated kiss.
All Percy did was hum his agreement into their kiss as Annabeth was pretty sure she loved the holidays even more now.

Now? She’s Gone (Luke Castellan x reader)
Requested?: Kinda Summary: You are a daughter of Hades, you were with Luke before he decided to join Kronos. You helped Percy, Annabeth, and Grover fight against him. Until one dreadful day when you were alone getting campers safely to camp, the monsters wouldn’t stop coming, forcing you to make a sacrifice. Luke hears of the news and immediately wants to call back all of the monsters near camp but Kronos won’t let him show that kind of weakness.  Warnings: Reader’s death
Y/N = your name Y/L/N = your last name  y/h/c = your hair color Y/N/N = your nickname
Tumblr media
(gif not mine)
Your P.O.V.
“Hi, I’m Y/N Y/L/N, daughter of Hades.” You say, smiling at the boy as he looks around the camp
“Luke Castellan, son of Hermes I guess.” He says
“Well Castellan, let me show you around camp.” You say
-~-
You laugh as you look at Luke, your legs on top of his.
“How did I get so lucky to actually have you fall for me?” He asks
“Because I’m not that cold-hearted like my dad.” You joke
“Well, I would still love you.” He says, leaning over and placing a kiss to your lips
-~-
“Luke, you can’t be the one who is doing this!” You yell, standing in front of Percy on top of the Empire State Building
“Y/N, you aren’t supposed to be here.” He says
“I was with my dad when my cousin here showed up.” You say
You look at the boy that you love as he just looks at you then looks away and at Percy.
Luke’s P.O.V.
I watch as her (y/h/c) hair bounces with every sword swing, dodge, jump, and slice.
She takes down the son of Ares then turns her (y/e/c) eyes towards me.
“Like what you see Castellan?” She asks
“You know it.” I say
I walk over and place a kiss on her lips as she sets her sword in its sheath.
-~-
I walk into an abandoned house, leaning my body against one of the walls.
The look of disappointment is just too much from her.
“Is it really worth it?” I ask myself
Your P.O.V.
“Be careful out there Y/N.” Percy says
“You know it cuz.” You say with a wink and he rolls his eyes
“Nico, she’s your sister.” He says
“I rather enjoy her constant teasing towards you.” Nico says
You chuckle as you pick up your bag and head towards the border along with them.
You look back at them and ruffles Percy’s already messy hair, doing the same thing to Nico then giving Annabeth a hug.
“Keep them alive for me will ya?” You say
“You know it Y/N/N.” She says
You walk away, heading towards the location Chiron told you to go.
-~-
You look at the group of monsters surround you and the two other demigods.
“Shit.” You whisper, sighing as you look at the other two
You contemplate the odds of getting all three of you to camp alive before you make your decision. You then realize that this hoard of monsters was sent by Luke along with some of his demigod minions.
“I’ll be damned. He probably thinks Chiron sent Percy out to collect them again.” You whisper
You close your eyes as you picture the look on Percy’s face after you iris messaged him to tell him you were coming home.
You two had become pretty close after Luke left and you started to watch out for him like he was your little brother. Which he basically was to a point.
“Percy, I’m sorry.” You whisper “Dad, it looks like I’m coming home a lot sooner than expected.”
You look at the other two, running your hand through your hair. You pull a note out of your pocket and hand it to the older one out of them.
“Run over that hill, yell for help. When you see a man in a wheelchair or he has a horse body, ask for a Percy Jackson.” You instruct “Then tell them who sent you and that I’m sorry.”
You watch as they start to run towards Half-Blood hill and smile as you see the monster don’t even take notice of them.
“Alright, who’s the first to die? Cause it sure ain’t me.” You laugh, pulling your sword out
You continue to sweep, slice, swing, cut with your sword until you feel something hit your back, sending you flying towards a tree. You hit the tree and wince as you use your sword to stand yourself up. You lift a hand to your forehead and feel something sticky and come to the conclusion that it is your own blood.
Maybe I actually can survive this.
One of the other demigods comes up behind you and grabs your (y/h/c) hair, pulling it back.
“Let's go to the border shall we?” They ask, holding a dagger to your back “I think everybody will want to see their favorite daughter of Hades one last time.”
You try to twist around before they knock your legs out from underneath you.
“Fight like a real demigod you coward!” You yell, trying to pull free
They laugh as they start to drag you by your hair.
You see the camp as you guys get closer, and you hear yelling as they are trying to find Percy Jackson.
Good, they got the message to them.
You feel the demigod stop at the top of the hill as they whistle for everyone’s attention.
“I think I have something that everybody is looking for.” They say
They pull you to where you are in front of them, your face showing as you are still struggling.
“Y/N!” Nico yells
“Let her go!” Percy yells
“I don’t think I will. This is just too good.” They laugh
You try to reach for you spare dagger before he kicks it out of your hand, causing you to cry out in pain. You look over at Nico as he shows fear in his eyes.
“If you're going to kill me, don’t do it in front of my little brother. I beg of you.” You start, not breaking eye contact with Nico
“Oh? You beg of me?” They mock “That just makes me want to do it even more. What mercy have you guys ever shown my mother?”
“Who is your mother?” Annabeth asks, taking a step closer
“DON’T move.” He yells at her
“Just answer her question.” You growl
“My mother is only Nemesis, goddess of revenge.” He says
You feel the dagger dig deeper into your back and you look at your friends as the look helpless.
“I’m sorry.” You whisper
“Just thought you would all like to see the first one to be killed in this war.” He starts “Say goodbye to your beloved daughter of Hades.”
You feel the stab of the dagger into the small of your back as he lets you drop to the ground.
“NO!” Nico yells
The next thing you know, Nico is hugging your head as Percy comes running over, putting pressure on the wound.
“Somebody go find ambrosia or nectar!” Percy instructs
You look up at both your little brother and cousin, your best friends.
“Don’t, please.” You whisper
“We can’t let you die.” Percy cries
“We have to. Let this be on Luke’s conscience, not your guys.” You say
“Don’t leave me Y/N. You’re all I have left.” Nico cries as you feel some of his tears spill onto your cheek
You bring your hand up to his cheek and wipe some of the tears as he sets one of his own on top of yours and leans into it. You look at Percy and bring your other hand up to his cheek and wipe away some of his tears.
“Take care of my brother please.” You say “Take care of each other.”
You try to turn towards Annabeth but only to gasp in pain.
“Annabeth, ake care of both of them for me.” You say
“Of course Y/N.” She cries and you smile, letting her squeeze your hand
“I love you guys.” You whisper
You watch as the blue sky turns dark and you can no longer hear the cries of the whole camp.
Luke’s P.O.V.
“Y/N is dead Luke!” Silena yells at me
“What?” I ask, biting my lip as my mind starts racing “She can’t be.”
“She is, she died in her own brother’s arms.” She says “The whole camp watched as Percy, Annabeth, and Nico tried to save her, but she wouldn’t let them.”
“Who is responsible for killing her?” I snap
“One of your demigod minions. Son of Nemesis.” She says “He said this was under your orders. How could you order him to kill her?! She had a little brother! She loved you!”
“I didn’t order to have her killed! I sent the monsters after Percy, not her.” I yell
“Well you sent them after her, she was the one Chiron sent to collect the to demigods.” She says
I look out at the water, not replying to her.
“I want to call everyone near camp or in camp back.” I say
They want you to show that weakness. Kronos says
“You ordered her to be killed!” I yell, even if he’s only in my head right now
She was a distraction. A weakness. He hisses
“Sir?” A voice says
I quickly turn around and see the exact same son of Nemesis who had killed Y/N.
“What do you want?” I snap
“I was coming to report back.” He says
“Don’t bother.” I say “Next time, before you kill a demigod of the Big Three, confirm the kill.”
“What is this about? You gave me the orders to kill any demigod who fought against us.” He says
“The one you killed. That was Y/N Y/L/N, daughter of Hades.” I snap
“Yes, I know who she was. She brought me to camp to never be claimed.” He says
“I loved her.” I whisper
“Well, what am I supposed to do now?” He asks
“Now? She’s gone!” I snap “You can’t do anything! get out of my sight before I kill you myself.”
I listen as the door shuts and I throw a dagger over there, hitting the top, making sure nobody can get in as I fall to the floor. I reach into my jacket pocket and pull out the picture of her I keep with me at all times and let the tears fall onto it.
“I’m so sorry Y/N. This wasn’t supposed to happen.” I whisper

Attrition of Peace
Twenty-Nine: Hazel
Frank Gets Serious (and Naked)
Author’s Note: Back on track! Thanks for reading guys :D
If there was one thing Hazel regretted over the last few months, it was not practicing incantations and counter-incantations with Lou Ellen, head of the Hecate cabin. Lou Ellen had offered, though usually the offers were followed up by Lou Ellen removing one of Hazel’s facial orifices, something Hazel found far less charming than Lou Ellen seemed to think.
When Hazel fought the sorceress, Pasiphae, and the giant, Clytius, she’d been underground, in her element, and had Hecate at her side, or as by-her-side as a mysterious, ambiguous Mist and magic goddess could be.
Here, they were exposed, distraught, and had a talking head shouting commentary at them.[1]
Hazel really hoped the last part was some sick trick of the Mist, but her Plutonian powers told her that was definitely part of an undead corpse.
That wasn’t what was making Hazel queasy though: she couldn’t shake the feeling that Hecate had abandoned her for this fight.
That, and she couldn’t see through this ice storm.
None of that mattered though. These people killed Will. They kidnapped her brother. They hurt her friends. They were not about to get away with this. Any fear she’d felt at the foreign chanting and turquoise fire solidified into rage.
When Hazel heard Festus slam into the house under an onslaught of weasels, she focused on her unconscious friends that were in danger of being crushed. From what she could see, Calypso was trying to drag Piper further back, but she’d left Annabeth---Hazel assumed since she couldn’t carry both at once.
Hazel concentrated. She imagined Annabeth on the other side of the house, safe, away from several tons of stumbling bronze and Mist.
White Mist encased the dim figure of her friend on the ground.
Annabeth vanished, like she had at the House of Hades.
And appeared on the other side of the house, out of harm’s way.
           One friend safe.
The hail thickened right when Frank shouted to keep their eyes forward and as Jason called out in alarm. Percy seemed to be swallowed by the storm with a scream of pain. Then came some comment about hentai—she’d have to ask Frank what modern invention that was later. And that was when the talking head rolled into the picture.
Next: Hazel wanted that head quiet. Something about its retching voice felt destructive and disruptive.
“It must be hard to talk through that gag,” she shouted over the hail pelts at the disembodied head. Although she knew nothing about its wants and needs, she guessed its only goal was to be listened to.
“Oh, Percy Jackson—our worst villain—won’t be winning any capture the flag wi—MMPH!” the head mumbled angrily into a cloth that appeared around its mouth.
One villain down. Head of a villain? She wasn’t sure if that should count as a quarter a person.
The hail was so thick now, she almost couldn’t see Jason struggling against the tree roots creeping up to encase him. How was Euna Song doing that? From what she’d seen of other children of Demeter and Ceres, they excelled at keeping the parasites out of a garden, not turning people into wood art.
Before she could rush to Jason’s help, Frank shouted, “Hazel! Look out!”
He vanished into a cloud of wasps before solidifying into a human in front of her.
Something that had been rolling towards her bumped into his foot. Not the most epic of rescues, but she appreciated Frank’s thoughtfulness.
For a second, she thought—in disgust—that the Triple A Chimera had rolled the head forward. Instead, a small red ball had tapped into Frank.
They paused and exchanged a glance. For that instance, she was happy he was so close, the only clear person in the middle of the storm. The warmth of his breath calmed her. He’d been acting weird since the rogue demigods had come to camp, so it was a nice change.
He looked a little sheepish for getting so freaked out over a children’s ball.
Then the ball puffed out into green smoke.
           Frank poofed as well.
And a small piglet stood, confused, at her feet, in a pile of praetorian armor. It squeaked in alarm, wriggling out of the breastplate.
That was something else Lou Ellen liked to do that annoyed Hazel—turn people into piglets. Though Frank the piglet was adorable.
           Someone cursed in Latin nearby.
“You hit the shapeshifter—” another hissed.
“Shut up; I know,” said the first voice.
The piglet squealed in distress, shaking its head from side to side and trembling. The hail pellets must have looked the size of boulders to him. Hazel went to snatch the piglet up when Frank morphed back into a person, looking horrified. He trembled in the cold.
Hazel should have been focusing on the battle. She should have been making sure Jason and Percy were okay, and that Festus had taken out those weasels, but—for an instant—she lost control and fanned herself.
“Wooh. That was weird. I’ve never been forced to turn into an animal. I thought I wouldn’t be able to change ba—” Frank started to say, before realizing his praetorian armor was at his feet. “Oh gods!” he squeaked, very similar to his piglet noise. “That—that never normally happens!”
“HA!” someone hissed through the Mist in triumph. “YOU DO CHANGE BACK NAKED WHEN YOU’VE BEEN PIGBALLED! TAKE THAT MAGICAL PHYSICS!”
“Silver-Tongued, eyes on your mark,” the huskier voice growled.
They were close by. With the thickness of the hail, Hazel assumed the storm must center around the Cloven Terror. When she first joined the Legion, she’d heard ghost stories from Nico and the others about a coldhearted child of Hecate that experimented mixing monster and demigod.[2] She never thought she’d meet him.
Something cracked and exploded beside them.
Burnt plant matter splattered all over her and Frank.
The hail decreased in that direction and Hazel could see Jason stumble out of a roasted tree root cocoon. He flicked the extra green mush off his face. When Jason made eye contact with Frank and Hazel, he gave Frank a bewildered glance.
Frank flushed.
At least the hail kept Leo from seeing Frank like this. She could only imagine what Leo would say.
“I spy, with my little eye…” the hissing voice seemed to slither from the ice pellets near Jason. “Someone who is too tired to shoot another lightning bolt.”
The reptilian monster descended on Jason from behind. Although the Mist kept shifting what she was seeing between an armored demigod and a scaled fiend, she could definitely tell it dug some kind of claws into Jason’s shoulders and—
--and repeatedly kicked him between the legs.
Jason grunted and collapsed forward.
Frank winced. “Really?! That’s low!”[3] He morphed into an eagle, darting towards them.
In a desperate motion, Jason sent an air blast backwards. The reptilian creature dislodged from his back and did a flip into the air, where Frank’s talons snatched him up.
Hazel took a step towards them, to help Jason up, when she heard some ice crunch beside her.
Instinctively, she raised her spatha.
It collided with a Stygian Iron pronged staff.
Then, she was face-to-face with the Cloven Terror. Those steaming green eyes felt like they could bore straight into her brain and extract all of her fears. The black, twisted horns loomed at least a foot and a half taller than her. Something about it reminded her of Pluto and, for an instant, she thought she could see her father leaning over: this rich, white man, giving her an art set like it could make up for years of absence.
But this wasn’t her father.
“What are you seeing, little Hazel Levesque?” the beast breathed like each word took effort.
Hazel wanted to run away. As she took a step backwards, all of her senses seemed to fail her. The ground felt more like the rocky hull of the rickety Pax ship that she, Frank, and Percy had taken to Alaska.
She felt seasick. She wondered how the Cloven Terror would react if she threw up on him. Maybe it would prove a shockingly good tactic.
When she tricked other villains with the Mist, she’d shown them what they wanted. But she didn’t know what this monster wanted. She needed to get him talking.
“What are you going to do with my brother?” she demanded. Hazel disengaged her spatha and went on the attack while she could still see him.
He stepped backwards into the hail, disappearing. “Oh, we didn’t take him.” The voice rasped by her.
Hazel gritted her teeth. What did they mean they didn’t take him?
She extended her senses. Excitement hit her when she figured out how to find the Cloven Terror and all the others.
They were wearing and holding precious metals.
Hazel stepped towards him. She willed the Mist to keep her looking confused and lost—something he would definitely want, regardless of his overall goal. Although she couldn’t see the monster, she could sense his weapons, the pieces of gemstones in the satchels hanging off his arm, the Stygian Iron enlaced in his helm.
None of it moved away from her when she went to close in. Her Mist trick was working; he didn’t know she was coming.
Hazel slashed her spatha a foot below the helm.
And she made contact.
The monster snarled in pain.
A rune on its leg glowed green, a leg she could now see.
The hailstorm died down.
The Cloven Terror stood in front of her, clutching its arm.
About three yards to her right, Jason lay motionless in the grass. She didn’t see Frank or the Silver-Tongued Snake. To her other side, she could catch a glimpse of movement where Percy should be. She didn’t have the time to check on Annabeth, Piper, Leo, or Festus.
Because something moved behind her.
Vines wrapped around her feet.
Hazel yelped.
The vines would have dragged her flat onto her face had she not phased into shadow.
Hazel hadn’t done this without Nico’s strict instruction before. But she felt the vines shift through her legs like her legs didn’t exist. Something else caught her though. A sword slashed into the chinks in her centurion armor, slicing her arm, almost exactly where she’d cut the Cloven Terror.
As the blade slipped away, Hazel felt like a part of her soul was ripped out of her too. Her entire arm felt cold.
What sword could catch her mid-shadow travel?
From under the Cloven Terror’s Ram helm, she could see a human face smile.
The Cloven Terror charged her from the front. Hazel side stepped, catching sight of an Asian girl darting at her from behind.
More vines snagged up around her legs.
This time, when Hazel shadow traveled, she reappeared a few feet away. She held her spatha ready, trying not to think about the injury to her nondominate arm. With the shadow traveling, Mist contortion, and wound, her energy was rapidly draining. She wasn’t sure how much longer she could keep this up. But she had to. Now it was more than finding Nico or Will’s killer. Now she had to protect Jason and her other friends.
But, Euna and the Cloven Terror were already charging her.

[1] Mel’s commentary: “Okay even if it’s Jack, that would be a bit off putting.” My question: “’Even if???’ Does it being Jack make this any less off putting? Should I be concerned how a decapitated head’s creep factor is lessened by the head’s identity, when the identity is that of Jack?!?!” What I assume Mel’s response will be: “Go home, Jack. You’re drunk.”
