it’s funny how everyone is saying Dani has a personality or characterization and then just says he knew amira since they were kids.... we only know that because they TOLD us, they haven’t SHOWN anything. “show, don’t tell” is literally the basics of writing/television. he’s a bland white boy who gets by because people take scraps and over analyze them and insert them into headcanons that subconsciously become canon to them 🤭

i wrote a really long answer to this ask and tumblr made it disappear, i’m so sad:(

but anon! i love this ask because you point out a very interesting thing, which is people taking anything about dani that reminisces a “personality” and use that to argument that he’s not bland when the only thing that we really know about dani is that... he likes amira. that’s it. and this is a trend in fandom with white background characters in shows.

and like, do you know who has a personality??? kasim. the show makes a point on his introduction clips that he clicks incredibly well with amira because they’ve lived so many similar situations!!! but not only that. in the clip we can see that kasim is feisty and funny as fuck, but also knows how to listen and to make the person in front of him feel good and respected. (which was kinda ruined by the... other clips. but eh.) the only thing that the show told us rather than show us is everything that dounia said about him on today’s clip.

and compare what one clip did vs all the clips in this season about dani. we know that he’s careless because he’s the archetype of the bro-ish, cishet white dude... and that’s about it. we know he’s... a decent brother? because he took cris to the hospital to see joana when she begged him to. and that he’s... kinda perceptive? because he kinda makes amira crack up when she was stressed during the tuesday clip... alright. and like, that’s it. besides, i don’t think lucas is good enough of an actor to really portray dani in a way that shows more besides the straight-bro-dude persona he’s got going on since s2. just think about all the other actors that have made their characters stand out beyond the script because of their quirks: irene with cris, hajar with amira, celia with viri, alejandro with lucas... hell, i even found miquel charming at times. i don’t think lucas has the range and that’s the saddest thing.

i mean, i know because i’ve read the spoilers (and stop right here if you don’t want to know) that we get another clip on saturday that expands more on dani. but then, it’s the same “tell rather than show” thing, and only about his relationship with religion, as well as more crumbs of amira and dani being childhood friends. even then, i’m positive that the show will do more to flesh out dani in the future (unless they’ve completely forgot how to write a good character). but the fact that fans are already lining up to defend dani this early in the season, when it’s a fact that he’s a bland character??? now those are the things that only happen to characters that are white. people only showed interest in kasim after he looked at lucas in the second clip he appeared on; not because he could be a compelling romantic companion to amira, but because he can be more wanking material to male-attracted fetishizing girls in fandom.

It was a pretty laughable accusation but really bad timing for me. This stupid drama we've been dragged into just broke open something in my real life I was trying to brush off. Maybe I should thank them because I needed to get those emotions out apparently. I was only bothered by the potential sabotage of friendships. Oh, and having my name slandered over nothing ( I believe we all know what this is really about with the hate anons). But they are nothing, just coincided with some pretty hurtful real life family drama. Everything is ok. We'll all be fine. Like I told some others. I didn't want everyone thinking some asshole bothered me to the degree that I was upset.

You are awesome and supportive and super sweet and I thank you for the love and I love you back! It's all about supporting each other in a fandom. That's what it's supposed to be about. ❤️

Hey!! As someone who is a fan of wtfock, I really think that the response to the ask earlier today was blown way out of proportion (and somehow one ask got blamed on an entire fandom??). I think you were saying your opinion and although it was definitely a hot take, it was just your opinion!! Like 100% valid thing to say.

And people can be intense about any negativity/criticism obvi and then everyone else just piles on.

Honestly I think the main reason wasn’t what you said it was just tagging wtfock and also and anti tag because when you say you’re “anti” something in a fandom people aren’t going to want to hear the rest of it (even if it’s reasonable)

Hi anon 🌸 I’ve been measuring whether to respond to you ask, because tbh I didn’t want to keep beating a dead horse. Ultimately I decided to do it, in order to explain why I tagged that post as “anti robbe.”

I generally don’t use anti tags, because on a given day I can have opinions on a show that go from complimentary to critical. If anyone then wanted to go back on my tumblr, it would be full chaos trying to chronologically read my opinions if I tagged anything critical with an anti tag.

However. During eskam s4, people who didn’t like the Dani/Amira ship received a lot of outright shitty asks because we were posting with the tag “skam españa”, instead of “anti skam españa”. So, as a compromise, we started tagging anything remotely critical of Dani/Amira as “anti damira” WITH the “skam españa” tag, so that it was both on the show’s tag, but Dani/Amira stans wouldn’t see it. That’s why I tagged the post as “anti robbe” with the “wtfock” tag. So Robbe stans who don’t want to see critical posts of their fav wouldn’t see it. Or would block the tag and move on.

Other than that, it’s immensely weird (and tbh, anxiety-inducing) to get replies and asks like, “damn, I came to your tumblr to read that post that EVERYONE thinks it’s shitty, and it’s really not as bad as people were making it out to be!” I think I’m just not going to look at the tag because Iiii don’t think I wanna see what this fandom of shy people who love kindness have been saying about my post lmao. Like just going off the stuff people are saying TO me. To be clear, I appreciate all the people who have responded to my post or have reached out to me, but like. Yes.

To all Bbrae and Damiare shippers!

I just got back from a massive ship war from Twitter, and I wanna for once and all, say how childish it is! (I already regret doing it. It was just a massive of exchanging nonsense)

We were literally saying the same thing but from different views. Even our reasons for disliking the other ship were literally the same.

What you ship is toxic!

It's abusive.

They have no chemistry

They were forced

It was just for them having love interests

It's dump

Bla bla bla

What was funny is that you can accuse both ships with these! But that doesn't mean they are! It's just a matter of prospective. Some people find it beautiful some people don't. It's like telling people Pizza is delicious but hamburger isn't and if you like it you're dumb!

Like what??

It's like your favourite color is blue but red is another one's favorite. To tell which is better all depends on how the different individuals see it! So battling about is is hilarious.

This whole shipping , writing fics, making fanarts, fangirling and this funny 'obsessions' are all good and entertaining. It's even beneficial for some. Like me, I got to see many interesting people that were so talented artists and also so inspirational, and read many good fics by people who were better than many non-fictional writers, made friends who are really supportive and kind. It boosted my confidence about writting and leveled up my English that's is not my native language.

In conclusion these fictional worlds we have, are very beautiful.

But when does it get toxic? When you expect another person to like what you do even if it's not their taste!

As a bbrae shipper for years, I have my rights to like this ship and obbsess over it! I can fill out my search with their arts and fics and die whenever they do something romantic and NO ONE should tell me I'm dumb or abusive for liking it!

And guess what? If you are a damirae shipper you have all rights in the world to like your ship and if someone comes and insults you, they have problems!

We are all here for fun! To explore our taste and improve our skills and thoughts. We are all people who want to make friends with who share the same taste. It's all about love!

But there is indeed, some people who want their ship being labeled as THE BEST! And no one should make fanarts, fics, comic books, movies, series and other stuff about the other ships.

And that's when the main problem starts!

I'm gonna tell you that, these people are from BOTH sides. Some of them are bbrae shippers, some of them are damirae shippers. These people, as you all must have seen, go to other ships fans and insult them, threaten them, tell them to kill themselves and go through various reason why the other ship suck and they shouldn't ship it otherwise they're dumb or abusive and many hilarious yet disturbing things they can spell.

Honestly, even writting it makes me question why they haven't gone to a very needed therapist yet.

But still, these people exist and the truth is they are not many! Shocking I know!However, their behaviors and insults naturally makes other people believe the whole fandom is full of these people, which is not the case!

I repeat! These people come from BOTH SIDES! In fact, all fandoms in the world have them. I mean obviously, out of 8 billion people, some gotta be toxic. That's how life works! It's unavoidable and we should deal with it.

But what we shouldn't do, is to go through other people's tag and insult what they like. I myself, always tag bbrae to see the news or fanarts or fics or literally anything about them and then when I see a tag about anti bbrae in BBRAE tag...well you all know how disheartening it is since it happens in both tags which is very disturbing.

Okay all in all, both ships can work! Both are beautiful in different views! Both worked in different universes. And both gained popularity.

I don't like damirae and that's totally fine! As along as I don't go harassing people who love it. You like damirae and it's okay! As long as you don't go calling people abusive about liking bbrae.

Remember we are all humans and we can never be exactly the same! We like different things and it's natural! None of us is wrong or right. Just different! And that's why it's beautiful!

I feel like I'm kinda repeating myself here,( and yes I know many people before me have said the same thing but I felt it should be said again)

Just keep liking what you want. Make fanarts, fanfics, books and movies about anything you like! Just don't, and I repeat DON'T go and insult people who have differences! Don't go into the other one's tag and insult their ship. If you see anti tag about your ship, Don't start a war about it! Just block the post and enjoy the rest of this beautiful journey (aka obbsession lol) about what you like! Whether it be a movie or a book!

ha, anon just wanted all the canon couples. fair enough!

CRISANA:

see, skam s3 is my favorite season of all time, but it has never been because of the love story. isak's story hits in a lot of sensitive places for me, and isak was also the first main character i encountered that was my age. i have a really special connection to him for that reason. on the other hand... i enjoy evak for what it is, but i never saw a future for their relationship after the season ended. in a lot of ways, isak's season ended just as their relationship started, a trope that i've never liked because how am i supposed to think that they will last? how am i supposed to know how they will work as a couple? it's just, ugh.

i had similar thoughts about crisana when i watched s2, except that the love confession scene and cris as a character made it even harder to get into the couple. moreover, the way people brush other characters' roles and presence on other seasons because they're so caught up on cris and joana is like... blegh. like it makes me forget that they're actually a well-written couple at times. because imo, og they never did anything really interesting with evak once they got together. but eskam........ oh, dear eskam.

there's something so beautiful about thinking of all the girls, the teenagers that will grow up watching a relationship like theirs on popular media. their entire subplot (??? can i even call it that) in s4 is proof of how GREAT of a relationship they turned out to be. like, i just wanna SCREAM thinking about it because, how is it possible that eskam saw evak and said "we're gonna make this SO good and we'll take our time and then tie it up in an incredibly satisfying and emotional way" and then did exactly that!!!!!! the way they respect each other, communicate, genuinely try to get to each other without dumb miscommunication. the way they understand each other and lift each other up! the way joana knew how to recognize cris' intelligence when everyone was telling her she's dumb, the way cris knows how to make joana feel worth it and show her affection in such a selfless, loving way. their last scene on joana's pov in s4 was the first time i cried during that season, just because it was all wrapped up so beautifully. because eskam understood that although the appeal of their relationship comes from the soulmate status of every evak couple, they had to also put in serious work to make it all work and they also managed to get that across with grounded drama, and also a hopeful message for people struggling with mental disorders. like AAAAAAAAAAAAA god what a great couple they are. maybe i'm too much of an eskam bootlicker but they're genuinely the best evak there is. i'll die on this hill. i'm so happy young wlw get to watch them as a guideline of what they should expect of a relationship.

JORGEVA:

i mean... it's eskam's fault, without a doubt. i love what eskam did with them in s1: the change of pacing, the way they created jorge, the little story changes to make it more nuanced, i think come together in a pretty satisfying way to show a teenage romance with no real support to last for more than a while. i don’t think eskam fully got the gist of what jonas was supposed to be, but it’s for the better if we think of the message in season 1. for that reason, jorge is like the one jonas who i really wouldn’t mind coming back to his eva. so why don’t i like them?

the answer is simply that i don’t enjoy their trope and i don’t think eskam made a real case of eva and jorge getting back together. they work well as friends, sure, and it’s clear as day that jorge still has feelings for eva, sure. but like, what tells me that they’re just ready to go all in again? eva goes through a really great arc and i would definitely agree she’s in a good place to be in a relationship again, but we know NOTHING about jorge’s journey. he’s just, silently pining on eva and that’s it. i do think it’s sweet and the hints of their lost romance throughout the show are wholesome, but there’s just nothing more to it. jorge and eva work AMAZINGLY as friends! i don’t see why they should push a romantic endgame for them. in my head, eva kissing jorge at that party was just a mesh of the excitement of a new era, the nostalgia of ending highschool, the high of being on this place with someone she really cares about, stuff like that, but it just ends there, and it’s great that way. nothing about eva’s character really led to her aching to be in a relationship again, and for me it feels right to end things with her being single and surrounded by great friends.

MAYBE if eskam had devoted some time showing us their progress and romantic potential instead of trying to convince us that kasim was a real, compelling character. maybe. lol.

DAMIRA:

(god, i don’t know how long this will be LOL)

i have. so many thought about this fucking pairing. let’s see what we can do LOL. the thing about damira is that i don’t think it’s a pairing that eskam had in mind when they laid out the first two seasons. the little hints of a friendship/childhood crush that happened during cris’ season really got the fandom and they quickly became the most popular non-canon ship in the show, so that’s where i think eskam said “okay, let’s run with this”. but it’s just...... meh. like i can tell that relationships like crisana were carefully crafted (well implemented in nora’s season, greatly wrapped up in amira’s season) but i cannot say the same for dani and amira. it’s almost like virihugo, where they just started giving each other Eyes on the middle of season 3, out of NOWHERE. it just feels forced to me and so i never really felt anything for the couple in question... like, for starters, i think nora and miquel were WAY more shippable than those two, strictly talking about their setup.

if you ever saw any of my posts during s4 then you should know how i actually feel about how they developed their romance (check my anti damira tag for more?) and i don’t wanna go through all those specific points again... but damira is not only an infuriating romance, but also a bad pairing in a narrative setting. like, damira clearly exists to answer amira’s questions about how would the future of a romance with a white guy would be, right? does she get an answer? no she fucking doesn’t, their final clip is like “after all these weeks, we still have no idea so we’re gonna cut things short, go back to our initial dynamic, and wait to see if amira any of us change our minds <3″. so like, even in that sense damira is a HUGE waste of time, and just like everything that happens to amira during her season it has no lasting impacts on her character or her settings.

and personally, i love couples where they’re both equal, and communicate at last, and both make great efforts to change so the relationship can flourish. this is why i offer so much praise to norandro and crisana, where in the first couple both character go through tremendous character growth and work through their problems individually before getting together, and in the second couple they show them clashing and fighting just to display their resolutions and show how willing they are to actually talk to each other and keep their relationship stable. dani and amira, on the other hand.... blegh. eskam wants me to think dani is a knight in shining armor for liking amira but that’s all he ever does. he doesn’t defend her in front of his friends, he doesn’t make efforts to get to know her and her world, he doesn’t communicate his real feelings to her, and the one time he did he humiliated her in public. like, idk, like, even MIQUEL explicitly defended nora when his roommates berated her for not drinking alcohol LOL.

at the end of the day the problem with damira is that it completely misses the point of yousana and its target audience. making yousef a white guy is not necessarily a bad choice if you implement it well (which eskam didn’t do btw), but you have to take into account that sana’s season exists to make a primarily white christian-raised audience relate and stand up for the muslim characters in the show. when the lazier partner of the main couple who makes zero efforts to work on the relationship happens to be white, it just means people will be sympathetic of him, and nor amira - and that’s exactly what happened in the show. people either thought amira was being too harsh by laying conditions for dani before they even began dating and making sure he respected her boundaries, or just wanted all the drama to go away soon so amira could kiss dani by the end of the season. so like, yeah. terrible stuff.

i would’ve liked damira’s impact on the season and amira’s journey a lot more if it had been about a one sided childhood crush from amira’s part. i thought their friendship was charming up to s3, and i simply hate that dani is literally in no way an older brother figure for the girl squad, since it’s a dynamic that’s lacking in the show and it would be a nice way to make dani be some sort of non-creepy eskild for the girl squad (but noooo, his only interactions w the gs are hooking up with eva and dating amira. smh). it would’ve been fun to have amira intimately dealing with those feelings just to learn a lesson by the end of it, at the time that she also falls for her muslim love interest - which is actually the isak/jonas/even dynamic when you think about it, also something that eskam didn’t really do with cris’ season. but also, all of this would mean that eskam had to do the good writing thing for s4, which they kinda forgot to do throughout the entirety of the season so, yeah.
