Some migrants along the U.S-Mexico border in the Agape Mundial Tijuana shelter have gotten appointments through the new CBP One App that was introduced yesterday by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for those wishing to apply for asylum to the United States on Friday, January 13, 2023. Only six were able to obtain a lottery number and official appointment for their asylum claims, while others got put in the system and given a number but without a set appointment as of yet—though once registered in the app, applicants will be contacted via email for their exact date once an appointment is available to them. — The CBP One App has now become oversaturated by the amount of migrants applying, there will not be any appointments assigned for the rest of January and February. — 600 migrants use to be at the Agape shelter now only 80 migrants remain since the app was introduced, in addition to some of the migrants who were given beforehand humanitarian parole, an exception to the Title 42 policy, due to some migrants dire circumstances who seek asylum through different associations and immigration advocacy groups who add migrants on lists for consideration of passage to the U.S. Now with the App migrants can apply by themselves using their phone and be added to the system, at least that is the plan or idea to make the process run faster, smoother and orderly by the Biden Administration. Though the App has received mix reviews and criticism by some migrants and advocates, overall most migrants who did apply on the app have gotten into the system and have received a lottery number to wait their turn to seek asylum to enter the U.S. Photos for @sipausa — #usmexicoborder #asylumseekers #tijuanamexico #cbpone #photojournalism #fotoperiodismo (at USA-Mexico Border, Tijuana) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnYSwlur-4m/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

27 Indians Freed in France Amid Human Trafficking Suspicions
After days of detainment at Chalons-Vatry airport, local French reports confirm the release of 27 Indians seeking asylum.
Tumblr media
News agency PTI reports the release of 27 Indians who opted to stay in France, seeking asylum. This group, part of 303 passengers on a flight bound for Nicaragua, faced suspicions of human trafficking during a stopover at Vatry airport.
Quoting local media, PTI states that a local judge ordered their release on "formal grounds." The judge noted that the border police at Charles De Gaulle airport had not referred the case within the stipulated timeframe, granting the passengers freedom despite their irregular status.
Of the released individuals, five minors were placed under the care of child welfare services. This development adds a nuanced dimension to the situation, emphasizing the complexities surrounding the group's stay in France.
The passengers, part of a Romanian-operated plane from Dubai, faced unexpected hurdles during a refuelling stopover at Vatry airport on December 21. Anonymous tip-offs led to suspicions of human trafficking, resulting in a four-day detainment.
While two individuals were questioned by French police regarding people trafficking, Mumbai Police and the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell are set to collaborate on the case's comprehensive investigation. The focus remains on understanding the circumstances surrounding the detainment and the subsequent release.
As the freed individuals navigate their situation on French territory, the officials seek a detailed report on the airport security personnel's interrogation of passengers who returned to Mumbai on the same flight early Tuesday.

Celebrating the Feast of The Holy Innocents, martyrs
After the wise men had left, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, ‘Get up, take the child and his mother with you, and escape into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, because Herod intends to search for the child and do away with him.’ So Joseph got up and, taking the child and his mother with him, left that night for Egypt, where he stayed until Herod was dead. This was to fulfil what the Lord had spoken through the prophet:
I called my son out of Egypt.
Herod was furious when he realised that he had been outwitted by the wise men, and in Bethlehem and its surrounding district he had all the male children killed who were two years old or under, reckoning by the date he had been careful to ask the wise men. It was then that the words spoken through the prophet Jeremiah were fulfilled:
A voice was heard in Ramah, sobbing and loudly lamenting: it was Rachel weeping for her children, refusing to be comforted because they were no more.
[Matthew 2:13-18]

Around the end of October 2022, I had the chance to document the growing University of California, San Diego (UCSD) backed migrant community in Tijuana, Mexico and how a pastor's life's work has become a multi-million dollar, first-of-its-kind safe landing for people fleeing violence during their wait to seek asylum to the United States. A massive, already operational migrant community is being constructed in Tijuana, thanks to a pastor, his charitable work, and a groundbreaking partnership with UCSD’s Center on Global Justice. — Much more than a migrant shelter, UCSD-Alacrán Community Station (also informally referred to as UCSD-Embajadores) is the first project of its scope in Mexico, says Gustavo Banda-Aceves, pastor of Templo Embajadores de Jesus church and shelter in Tijuana. The upstart community, located in Alacrán Canyon near the Great Tenochtitlan sports complex, is one of four cross-border UCSD Community Stations, which operate as shelter communities, according to Teddy Cruz, UCSD Center on Global Justice Director of Urban Research and professor. “There is no project similar to this concept,” he says of its status in Mexico, adding that he’s not sure about the rest of the world, “but there should be, and if not, why not?” — To read the entire article and see more photos of this story you can go to @sandiegomag: https://bit.ly/3GPLky4 —thank you to the editors of SDM for publishing the work online. — #photojournalism #tijuanamexico #ucsd #migration #documentaryphotography #asylumseekers (at Tijuana, Baja California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnlNZ56rGIY/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Philosophical commentary on current events by Wilhelm Dilthey
Oh, how delightful! More tales of conflict and political maneuvering to dissect and ponder. It seems the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has once again graced our attention with an “unprecedented attack” by Palestinian militants. How thrilling, how utterly predictable. In my own philosophical theory, which I have elegantly named “Diltheyan Criticism of Historical Life,” I would certainly encourage a…
