He won't even eat vegetables when Steve Harrington cooks him dinner. Right?

Billy’s gorgeous, and he’s smart, and he’s got better things to do than nail Nancy Wheeler’s dumbass ex-boyfriend.

The ghost of Billy Hargrove leaned in the open window of Steve’s car with that trademark smirk and, honestly, Steve was kind of impressed by how detailed his own hallucination could be. “Wanna fuc-What the shit? HARRINGTON?” They blinked at one another for about ten seconds before Steve’s brain finally managed to fire off a thought. “You’re real?” Steve couldn’t stop the words from spilling out of his mouth, his own stupidity a constant echo in his empty head. Billy’s face reflected his thoughts as he yanked on the door handle until Steve reached over to hit the lock with shock-numb fingers. “Real fucking freezing. Let me in, pencil dick.”

Steve is (maybe) a little bit still in love with Nancy Wheeler and (maybe) trying to figure himself out-- between the night terrors and the babysitting and the general weirdness that is Hawkins, Indiana-- before he graduates.

Billy Hargrove fits in there somewhere (probably).

‘So,’ Tommy says around a mouthful of fries, ‘what the fuck is the deal with you and Hargrove?’

And that’s really the goddamn question, isn’t it?

He wants to know Billy. Wants to know why he is the way he is. Wants to be able to figure out what the fuck he’s thinking when he looks at Steve like that, when he touches him like it doesn’t mean shit and like it means everything all at once. Wants to know why he talks so much shit, why he needs to fight, where all that fire comes from. Why he’s so volatile, why he’s such an asshole, how he can be so fucking mean and so fucking sweet in the span of seconds, at the same time, even.

Move on. Let it heal.

Maybe that’s why Steve said yes when Max asked him to help move boxes out of Billy’s room after the dust settled. He could hear her voice. Too many. Too heavy.

Just like his wounds. His grief. Too many. Too heavy.

(Or, Steve steals the glass ashtray from Billy's bedside table and things start to go bump in the night.)

Maxine looked happy as they parted from Steve and walked down Main Street away from the theater. She slid into the passenger seat of Billy’s car. 'That was really fun,' she said. She looked at him like a gremlin and then smiled real cutesy. 'Did you and Steve hold hands in the popcorn?'

'I hope you had a real good time, I’m going to kill you in your sleep tonight,' Billy told her.

the tale of the body thief by anne rice i think? (i actually suspect there was something after that but my mind is blank)

the amazing adventures of kavalier and clay by michael chabon!!! thats what my tumblr name is pulled from. big big fan. its DENSE and maybe not the easiest to get into but it's just one of those books where you fall deeply in love with the characters and picking the book up was like checking in on your friends.

3) A book that I couldn’t put down:

A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor by Hank Green. a fun easy read

4) A book I’ve read twice (or more):

hmmmm. ngl all i can think of is harry potter. as an adult, i don't reread full books much. i've reread sections of books, but start to finish...?

5) A book on my TBR:

i'm intrigued by that book that went viral This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone.

67,881 words. Not bad.

3 - What fandoms do you write for?

Right now, only for The Old Guard (2020). I'm a "one hyperfixation at a time" type of person.

4 - What are your top five fics by kudos?

Uuuuuh I don't actually write angsty endings? Even the sadder ones always have a vision of hope in the end

7 - What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Again, difficult to say. Probably c'est lui pour moi, moi pour lui (dans la vie) because it's Reunion and Fluff Galore. Or A Marriage of True Minds, because of Wedding Fluff and Feelings.

8 - Do you get hate on fics?

Thankfully not, and I hope it never happens

9 - Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

No, not really. Love reading it, but I don't think I'll go that far myself.

10 - Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

No I don't. The thought never really crossed my mind

11 - Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Never, thank goodness

12 - Have you ever had a fic translated?

No - although one could say that I already am doing my own mental translation since English is not my first language lol - but if someone wanted to I wouldn't mind, as long as they asked me first

13 - Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, never happened

14 - What's your all time favourite ship?

Why are you asking me to rank my children?! Darcy/Elizabeth has been around longer, but Joe/Nicky really Hit Different. So I say it's a tie.

15 - What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

All of them? There's a reason I don't post WIPs - inspiration is flighty and cruel. I never say 'never', but knowing myself if I haven't worked on something for longer than a year it's unlikely I'll ever start again

16 - What are your writing strengths?

I'm the wrong person to ask this - Maybe plot coherency and world building? I tend to take a lot of time to make sure that the plot flows well and that things are as accurate I can get them. Also, clearly, writing soft and fluffy things.

17 - What are your writing weaknesses?

I always have the feeling of my writing being clunky and too detail-filled, because I want the readers to see the scene as I see it in my mind. And I've never been able to stay within the number of words I expected to - my one-shots get stupidly long.

18 - Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I literally make Nicky speak in Italian as much as I can get away with it all the time. But also, if it's a language you don't know well and unless you have a human who speaks it that can check it, I wouldn't just trust a translation software. I have seen enough of glaring Italian errors in fic to make me want to go "please just say that they spoke in another language in the dialogue tag I beg of you."

19 - First fandom you wrote for?

Winx Club, a long long time ago, and not in English

20 - Favourite fic you've written?

I think it's a tie between hand in hand and We're Meant to Find Each Other - they're more team-focused than the others; hand in hand was the first I wrote for TOG fandom and a true stroke of inspiration. Meant to Find Each Other is the only multi-chaptered fic I ever managed to finish, it spans through multiple time periods, and the AU it's set in is very close to my heart.

I'm supposed to share the last line I wrote and tag as many people as there are words in that sentence but like. I don't want to. So have me trying to see if I can find the shape of a sequel to my Santa Nicky fic where Joe tries to make a joke and it doesn't land, and he has to wait out Christmas Eve to make up for it:

'And you're sure you don't want to come along for the ride?'

Joe rolls in the bed, settling his hips more comfortably as he watches Nicky dig in the overstuffed wardrobe. They really need a second one, but they haven't found the time yet.

'Not this year,' Joe says, stretching and shivering when his back pulls just right. 'I want to go to work tomorrow, there's time and half for Christmas Eve volunteers.' 

'Yes, you said, I'm sorry,' Nicky says, nodding as he backs out of the wardrobe, triumphantly brandishing his preferred hat. 'But I'll see you after?'

'Of course,' Joe rolls again, pulling the duvet as he goes to show his bare torso to its best advantage. Gratifyingly, Nicky's grip on his hat loosens as his eyes fix on Joe's bare hip bone. 'We have a date with Detective Pikachu.'

Yes they watch Detective Pikachu every year. This is only the second year though, so they don't know that yet.

I was tagged by both @non-un-topo and @aphroditestummyrolls to do the fanfic trope thingy you see above. (I think @raedear also tagged me for this like...a year ago??? sorry friend)

I WANT TO NOTE: I based this list off general feelings, but I think those feelings are specific to my main/prevalent fandom, The Old Guard. I DO think one or two of these tropes could be more interesting to me if it was a different fandom. But like…only one or two.

This was such a weird list to create. I definitely surprised myself with some of these, and I can say with absolute confidence that this chart would have looked completely different 3 years ago. Time, life, and some very good authors have all changed my preferences and limits to some extent. I would NEVER have read an a/b/o fic before certain Joe/Nicky authors addressed parts of concept that I hate, for example. (have you read (let go of) the same dream by @bewires ? Cause you should read (let go of) the same dream.)

I also definitely feel...burned out(?) on some tropes these days. Some concepts no longer feel interesting to me unless I like the author or the concept has been used in a way that i personally haven't seen before (see: unhappy endings or huddle for warmth).

Anyway. You should go give this a try if you want! It was fun.

currently reading: I've been reading Lolita for ages, got halfway through then abruptly ran out of steam. have also just started the Erlkönig-Manöver by Robert Löhr which is wonderfully absurd

last film: we had an old movie watch party yesterday and watched Swing Time, which was fun (although I expected the Zadie Smith novel at first)

currently watching: uhm like a series? It's complicated, I started Elementary and House but remains to be seen if I continue. Otherwise I've caught the Tatort bug so... that 😅

currently craving: a nap.

currently consuming: nothing, although I'm sure Lufthansa will offer me a little piece of chocolate shortly
