I am getting into x-men through x-men '97, and my first insight into the fandom is that it's... not a fun place to hang out. The ageism is wild and the Rogueneto hate is so unwelcoming.

I'm sorry you feel unwelcome :(. Every fandom has a not great side, honestly if shippers being kind of mean to Magneto is the worst of it, I'll take it. Just remember, you can engage with the fandom while avoiding shipping discourse. Also remember that rabid shippers are usually a vocal minority. Most of my X-friends are chill.

I would presume either

A) they’re waiting to find the body and have confirmation of death

B) they’re still sorting out the details for the funeral (he probably doesn’t have a plot preserved or a headstone made yet, or he has some super specific instructions, or whatever).

C) They did have the funeral but it happened off screen because Gambit’s funeral is like, way juicier. Way sadder.

But this is the objectively funnier interpretation.

A part of me finds it hilarious that Gambit gets a full funeral and eulogy, including photo, flowers, grieving friends, family and a feral lover, while Magneto, the leader of the X-Men, whose body was suspiciously never found, barely got mentioned by his team.

(For those wondering how she actually gain control over the Phoenix force, she went to Jean Grey’s old house and had a trauma dump to the air and then willed herself into becoming the new Phoenix. I think. Nightcrawler wasn’t in that issue so I was only half paying attention.)

I wager it’s because, to her, it feels like grieving Magneto too is a betrayal. She clearly feels like Remy’s death is at least partially her fault, she’s in the bargaining stage of grief right now. Maybe if I’d told him I chose him, he wouldn’t have sacrificed himself. Maybe he did it because he felt like he had nothing to live for. And she also probably feels like since she turned down Magneto’s affections, she’s not entitled to mourn him.
