For the most part, I'd like to keep all my spaces fun and generally light hearted, save for the occasional rant (because, well... This is DBD 😅), but I want to talk about something important right now. If you've been playing this game for long enough, you'll know that there are multiple heated debates amongst the community that will cool off for a while, only to make a resurgence again at some point. Right now, I'd like to address the one that I'm seeing a lot of at the moment.
Tumblr media
Let's talk about filters... But, really, let's talk about accessibility in gaming. Primarily in Dead by Daylight.
Tumblr media
Before getting into it all, a couple of quick things to note: a. This is a long post, and b. a lot of it is stuff I said elsewhere (namely Instagram). I also broke this up into a couple of sections to (hopefully) make it more easily digestible than a wall of text.
About Those Filters...
Now, I have some tweets of my own to post. For context, Hens went on from that first tweet to discuss his findings a bit, and asked if people wanted him to make a video addressing the subject. After most people said they wanted to see a video, he agreed.
Now, here is my quote tweet and short thread.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I want what I said in that first tweet to sink in. This game first launched in 2016. The colorblind filters available in the game weren't added until 2021.
It took Behavior five (5) years to implement a feature that would allow people with colorblindness to play as anyone else could. This was a feature that should have been available all along, yet there was a need to ask for this to be added. And it still took them half a decade to do it.
If that wasn't terrible enough, there are many colorblind people in the community for whom the available filters do not work. At least not as well as they should. Which means that there are many players using third party filters to simply be able to see the game.
The Usual, Disappointing Response...
But there are some players that use them to have an unfair advantage. So they should be banned... According to far too many people. And if you are one of them, I ask you to consider this:
If you are more concerned about the people who don't need it, you are ignoring the people who do. If you are more concerned about the people that don't need it, respectfully, please take a step back and think about why that is.
Because we see these things said constantly, about features we use just to be able to play like anyone else can do. When disabled people see and hear the comments about how these features should be banned, or how "unfair" they are, what we hear is, "Yeah, but I want to win, so…"
No matter how many times we explain why it wouldn't be good if these things got banned or changed, it doesn't seem to matter. No matter how many more people that use these things need it than don't, it never matters.
My Personal Struggles...
In the second tweet of my thread, I said, "BHVR shouldn't ban their use. They should do better by the disabled people that need better options. This is a general statement, not exclusive to colorblindness."
When I said that, I had a very specific thing in mind, although I'm sure there are other examples of which I'm not even aware.
I'm not colorblind, though I have other disabilities that affect how I experience video games. Though I'm neither deaf, nor hard of hearing, I do have an issue perceiving sounds. Particularly in video games.
For DBD, when I play killer, I can't always find survivors by listening for them because I often have trouble figuring out the right direction that it's coming from. I frequently run into situations where the sound seems to be coming from one direction, but then it sounds like it's actually the opposite, even when it isn't possible that they could have run that way because I would have seen them.
When I play survivor, I frequently can't tell how close the killer is when going by the terror radius because it often sounds a bit further away than it really is. Before I realized that it was a "me" issue, I used to get so pissed because I'd get grabbed off of generators even though it sounded to me like I had a little bit more time before I had to run.
In regards to that, I was once discussing how I wish they hadn't changed Spine Chill back to the way it was because watching the red dial fill and regress helped me far better than the new heartbeat does. No matter how hard I try, I can't seem to properly gauge the distance. I should mention that I have several learning disabilities, as well, which definitely contributes to this. And I'm frustrated because it seems so straight forward, and I can understand it in DBD Mobile, but not core for some reason.
During that discussion, while I was explaining all of this, I had someone outright say to me, "They can't put in too many accessibility options because then people who don't need them will cheat with them."
And several people chimed in with, "Yeah, but it also tipped off survivors to stealth killers."
Um... I main Ghost Face. Yet, my point still stands. And now the heartbeat is the only option available, so I'm still struggling a bit.
People with disabilities shouldn't have to settle for "it's better than nothing," but we do. Time and time again.
In Closing...
That, "I know you need it, but what about the people who don't?" argument is a truly sad and messed up way of thinking. And half of the problem is the fact that there are many people who don't even realize that. The person who said that to me clearly didn't understand that, perhaps, that isn't something you should say to someone explaining why they need it. They weren't trying to be an asshole. They thought they were just having a conversation. Obviously there are those who just don't care, but I do believe that there are more people that just don't realize what it is they're really saying when we see this stuff. Nor why it's so fucked up.
I can personally tell you that it's exhausting to have to defend things, over and over, that make me able to enjoy this hobby that I've been doing for 30+ years. Making room for everyone to be able to play is more important than winning.
If you read this far, thank you.

Meet Your Maker Mini-Review
Behaviour, the devs behind Dead by Daylight and Chicken Little for the GBA, released their newest title today. I'm loving it.
The shortest way I can explain MYM is this: imagine if Doom had a baby with Mario Maker. Add in a post-apocalyptic setting, and that's the game.
MYM has two core gameplay loops; raiding and building. In the building mode, you're tasked with constructing a base filled with traps and guards, protecting genetic material (or Genmat as its called in game). In raiding mode, you're going into someone ELSE'S base to try and steal the Genmat, and get out alive. The more you raid, the more materials you collect, meaning upgrades. The more you upgrade, the more you kill raiders, which means more materials to upgrade. Rinse, and repeat.
Both types of gameplay are fun! The building feels good - since its all squares or triangles, the snapping is clean. The raiding...also feels good - you get a double jump and grappling hook for traversal, some kind of ranged weapon and melee (or two of one of those) for taking out traps, and a neat lean function to help you peek round corners before you advance.
Since pretty much all the content in the game is player-made, I'm hopeful that this game will continue for a long time. If the support DBD has received since release is anything to go by, I'll be happy.

Anyone else been getting this “Disconnected from host” shit a lot during the Halloween event? If so, did you find a solution? Cuz all I got out of BHVR was “did you turn it off and on again?” followed by “idk, contact Sony.”

I'm so sad that it feels like I only get great games in DBD when I'm not streaming. It's as if the game knows when I'm streaming and only puts me against toxic TTVs, bully squads, and tryhards. But when I'm not streaming, I get the sweetest teams and most enjoyable games.
I would love to get some of those fun games on camera.

Say what you will about Skull Merchant’s lore but the fact that she and Trapper not only share a realm, but her Glamping HQ just randomly appeared in the middle of his property one day is hilarious. I cannot imagine an old fashioned, gruff and rugged fathers boy from the early 1900s having to talk to a female Japanese-Brazilian millionaire with a Patrick Bateman loser-ego-god complex that likes to dress in cyber punk cosplay and hunt people for sport
Talk about a battle of the daddy issues
Also image Evan’s absolute outrage at seeing Adriana press a button to get a drone back when he has to walk miles out of his way to even grab a trap for the first time
If BHVR ever releases more lore about killer interactions I need to hear about their relationship

imagine a licensed thir13en ghosts chapter in dead by daylight, the jackal would be the best choice for a new killer out of all 13 ghosts, he’s genuinely frightening and his perks would probably be insane.
Tumblr media
cyrus’ mansion/the basileus machine would be such a cracked map, if bhvr cared enough they could probably make insane map-killer interactions, since all the engraved glass walls of cyrus’ mansion move to trap ghosts or people in them. survivors could probably evade the jackal by pulling switches that lock him in a particular section of the house, but opens up other areas as a result
Tumblr media
matthew lillards psychic character dennis rafkin could give us great perk opportunities as a survivor, he could probably have amazing aura reading perks since he sees dead people
Tumblr media
there’d be lots of skin and rework opportunities as well
the serial killer junkyard where they captured the juggernaut could be an amazing autohaven wreckers rework that’s actually scary
Tumblr media
the torso could be a horrifying spirit skin
Tumblr media
the angry princess could also be a spirit skin
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the hammer could be a trapper skin. etc etc etc sorry for the thir13en ghosts brainrot i just had to get this out

There is nothing that implies that joey is underage however with susie from the start of development it was pretty clear that susie WAS INTENDED to be a minor due to her looks and personality but BHVR had to age her to be 18 because in some platforms it's illegal to violence against minors so BHVR claims everyone is 18 (including victor) also some of your logic doesn't make sense because
it's implied that Frank has been in Ormond for 3 years which means that Frank was most likely 16 when he arrived so therefore he would still be in school.
minors and adults can still be friends you know and it's not like the legion has a drastic age gap between them because when that anon was saying Joey and Susie are minors the anon was most likely trying to say that Joey and Susie are aged between 17 - 16.
just because a character is fictional it doesn't give you an excuse to sexualize a minor because fiction does effects reality so don't use that shit excuse to sexualize a minor
(i'm not trying to stop you from sexualise since she is cannonicly 18 but I personally think that you're a weirdo for sexualzing a character that was IMPILED to be underage)
I think you're absolutely the same Anon, ngl. I don't have that much engagement, if you didn't notice.
Why does that matter if he was in school IN THE PAST? That's part of my argument, actually.
Dude, if he's 19, hanging around 16/15 year olds, as the cosmetic implies, that's actually weird. Scratch that, it's predatory in his case, considering he kind of became their cult leader. Also, don't you see how insane what you're doing is? You're actively finding arguments as to why she potentially could be a minor, that are just what you made up reading the canon, because you want to restrict me writing about her. Are you serious?
The fact that we're having this discussion in the first place should tell you how unimportant the ages of fictional characters are. Ages of real life minors are not up to debate. Fictional characters, on the other hand, cannot be even minors. They will never have the ability to consent. Yall assign too much personhood onto an OBJECT meant to entertain you.
It astounds me you're coming at me with this "fiction affects reality" bullshit in a fandom about murderers. Oh no, the ficional character that will stalk you and tear your guts out may or may not be underage. Be fr. If you think that, and play horror games, you're a dangerous weirdo. My work has tagged noncon, will have tagged sadism and abuse. Because as I said, I'm not making this vanilla. Again, it astounds me that you think I would care, with this as the main work here.
Separate fiction from reality, as the rest of the world does. It was a standard practice and still should be because this parasocial ass relationship with fiction is weird. Stop with this "video games cause violence" argument. And if you think that, don't interact with horror, because that lowkey makes me think you're dangerous, and normalized violence in your head. Which is particularly disgusting, considering current events.

Talbot has undergone a number of mutations due to his prolonged and frequent use of the serum. Most visually notable are the numerous disfigurements; the soft tissue of his lips, nose, and ears sloughed off of his head- his lower jaw all but dissolved and split, turning into a gaping maw- his spine is permanently hunched- his skin is leathery in places, scaly in others, all over more akin to something dead rather than alive. Those with keen eyes may even notice pustules of serum blistering across his body, typically hidden by his cloak but this covering often slides during trials.
It is similarly almost exclusively during trials that another mutation is revealed. More specifically, the awful growths which (more or less) symmetrically sprout from Talbot’s bent back, four on either side of his spine. While they have the same pallid, leathery complexion as Talbot’s skin at their bases, the masses abruptly darken in color and harden only a few centimeters up. They grow out at an angle from Talbot's spine for approximately four inches, before turning downward in an apparent joint of sorts and contonuing for another 3 inches or so, reminiscent of the Entity’s own limbs- albeit in miniature form. They possess limited, rudimentary movement, at most able to simply twitch or writhe in response to stimuli.
However, Talbot has discovered and refined a compound which causes these proto-limbs to grow exponentially, reaching several feet in length and gaining significant mobility and strength. It is in this form that the unfortunate survivors are most familiar with these particular features, powerful enough to lift Talbot from his feet and carry him at high speeds, rebounding off walls to launch him at them for a deathly pounce.
But only a select, unlucky few are aware of at least one of the internal deformities Talbot suffers. One could easily argue it's perhaps the most gruesome of all. Within his lungs and occasionally even esophagus, small polyps of the pustula plants sprout and begin to grow in length, with the only direction to go being up and out. Talbot has no choice but to wait for these vile things to push themselves up his throat and out of his maw, choking amd suffocating him in the process, reaching a length that he can grab hold of them and rip them free. It is every bit as excruciating as it sounds. Talbot has no idea how to even begin to stop the cycle from continuing. Any and all forms of his precious serum only encourage the growths, and the Entity's own annual blighting sends them into overdrive- only a piece of how the event effects Talbot directly.
[ This is my explicit disclaimer that I absolutely hate Talbot’s power in game. It makes absolutely no sense, both from a functionality standpoint and how tf it has anything to do with his character/lore. Fuck you bhvr, I’m giving him a power that is so much better in every way kiss my ass. ]
[ a mock-wiki description of this rework is below the cut for anyone interested ]
Power: Blighted Corruption
The Blight starts the Trial with 5 Tokens.
Special Ability: Blighted Limbs
One of the many mutations the Blight has undergone due to the serum, eight growths reminiscent of the Entity’s own limbs have sprouted from the killer's back. Activating Blighted Corruption (which uses 1 token) forces these growths to sprout into arachnid legs which carry and propel the Blight forward for a time.
Special Interaction: Slam
A Slam is performed by propelling the Blight into an obstacle. The result differs depending on the type of obstacle hit.
Pallet or breakable wall: the Blight destroys these obstacles upon contact, but loses 1 token.
Window: the Blight vaults through the window at an increased rate, but loses 1 token.
Survivor: the Blight “trips” and is stunned, losing all momentum and tokens, putting the ability into cooldown.
Solid wall: the Blight ricochets off, using the Blighted Limbs to briefly grab hold and adjust trajectory before propelling himself forward again. He loses 1 token.
Special Attack: Lethal Slam
After ricocheting off a solid wall, the Blight is able to quickly readjust to be prepared for attack. The Blight must then perform a Slam into a Survivor, pouncing upon them and putting them in the dying state. The Blight may use his remaining tokens to ricochet after the initial impact with a solid wall to attempt better positioning for greater chance of hitting his target, but must keep in mind every time he propels off the wall he loses a token. Successfully hitting a survivor with a Lethal Slam stops the Blight in his tracks, putting the ability in cooldown and subsequently recharge.
Fatigue
When either “tripping,” the final Lethal Slam is performed with no remaining tokens, the Blight doesn’t propel himself off a solid wall in time, or the Blight successfully pounces on a survivor, he enters the Fatigue state and begins recharging tokens. His movement speed is slowed until the first two tokens are fully recharged, but is still capable of normal killer interactions (i.e. basic attacks, picking up/hooking survivors.)
