Hearing about popular childrens books in the english speaking world is funny. Warrior cats and animorphs werent a thing here but yknow what was? La Medeleni & Cireşarii. The first one is a coming of age series that follows 3 kids as they grow up, and it ends with one of the main characters knowing she has cancer, killing herself 2 days before she was to get engaged to the love of her life. In the epilogue the childhood home they grew up in, that shaped their entire story, is sold, and her brother and childhood friend decide to write the story of their memories to keep her and their past alive that way.

The other series follows a different adventure and mystery in every volume (from exploring caves to castles to the sea) and ends with the main characters discovering the poet Ovid's lost grave. The epilogue still haunts me, of the author speaking directly to the characters as everything is vanishing and turning to black around the streets they had treaded before, the protagonists knowing the end is near as the author puts them to sleep. "What will our friends say? Will you deprive me of them? I am nothing without them. You are cruel, the only one i could never conquer. You of all!" "It's time to part ways, it's late." (...) "Life flows. We are a second of the world's imagination" and then they wish each other a good journey, the end. One of the characters, the author's favorite, struggles even past the ending against the darkness, begging his beloved author to find one more adventure, one more story for them as he's fading away. "If only you knew how much i loved you!" "You're starting again? Can't you understand we're no longer in the book?..."

I want to reread these books soon with a new understanding than what i had when i was 10... what were the classic elementary school books you guys had?^_^

It's been quite tiring to be honest. My finals start on the upcoming Wednesday so it's mainly been preparation for that.

And unfortunately I haven't. I haven't really read anything since the beginning of April because my aim wasnto focus on my studies but I plan to read a lot more when they're done.

Do you know anything about pre-colonial ilokano culture? Like any practices, myths etc :)

Precolonial Ilokano culture has also been on my radar especially since I myself am of Ilokano descent actually! My ties to the culture had been severed by my Ilokano grandfather after a falling out with his family, but I might be able to get together some sources and articles on precolonial Ilocos some other time.

One of the most popular myths from the Ilokos region that is often taught in schools even outside the area is the Life of Lam-Ang or Biag ni Lam-Ang. This story follows Lam-Ang and different parts of his life from before his birth and up to his peaceful life after all of his adventures. You can read it here alongside a collection of other epics from other Filipino ethnic groups and an English translation here (thanks to a Christian school's English class lol)

From quick research, an article by Jordan Clark of the Aswang Project lists the 1978 book Handbook of Philippine Language Groups as source for knowing the early Ilokano pantheon or at least the generally accepted Ilokano pantheon.

This book identifies Buni as the supreme being of the pantheon, who, from other sources I've seen, is often referenced as someone who has tasked the giants with creation. I can't seem to find the specific myth that exactly references how the world had come to be. Parsua was also identified as a creation deity.

Then there are the deities related to different nature-related and weather-related things which are listed as Apo Langit (Lord Heaven), Apo Angin (Lord Wind), Apo Init (Lord Sun), and Apo Tudo (Lord Rain).

There are also variations listed within the article that had been referenced to have come from the book published in 1952 called the Historical and Cultural Data of Provinces specifically from Vigan, Ilocos Sur, although it seems to have more outsider influence.

Here's the plain-text from the article since it's pretty difficult to find other sources of this myth other than the book and the article:

Cabalangegan was formerly a jungle at the edge of the river Abra. On the far side of the river were mountains high and steep. On these mountains lived an old man named Abra, the father of Caburayan. The old man lived and controlled the weather. It is said that the river Abra was a gathering of water vapor, shaded, and the days were always bright with sunlight. At that time Anianihan, God of Harvests, was in love with Anianihan, Goddess of Healing. Her mother, Lady Makiling knew about their mutual understanding, but Abra did not know it for the three were afraid to tell him since he might punish them as he disapproved of Anianihan. Abra wanted his daughter to marry either Saguday, God of the Wind, or Revenador, God of Thunder and Lightning. This being so, Anianihan took Caburayan from her home. Abra wept a great deal. He sent Lady Makiling away after beating her. When Abra was alone, he wept day and night till Bulan, God of Peace and Calm, came. But though Bulan was there to brighten Abra’s spirits, Abra did not stop weeping. He could not express his anger. He begged the other gods to bring back his daughter. One day the sun, eye of Amman, shone so bright that the water of the river Abra was excessively heated. Smoke rose from the river. Soon, thick, black clouds began to darken the sky. Then Saguday sent the strongest wind until the crowns of the trees brushed the ground. The god Revenador sent down the largest strings of fire. The heaviest of rains fell. All these frightful events lasted seven days. The river Abra then rose and covered the trees. There rose a vast body of water and the highest part of the mountain could be seen. It looked like the back of a turtle from a distance. At this spot Abra lived. On the seventh day, Abra heard a cry. He also heard a most sorrowful song. Abra dried his tears and looked around, but he saw no one. He determined to find Maria Makiling, his grandchild. He did not find her for the cries of the baby had stopped. The search for the baby lasted three full moons, but to no avail and the poor old man returned to his home very sad. He lost all hope. His wits were gone. At that time Maria Makiling was under the care of the fierce dog Lobo, that was under a god of the Underworld. He had been punished by the other gods and that is why he looked like a fierce dog. He was sent down to do charity.

From just the story alone, there's some obvious influences from other cultures such as one of the deities mentioned, Lady Makiling, the mother of Caburayan, having come from Laguna, as well as the usage of the word Lobo to name a fierce dog with the word having come from Spanish.

This may be the reason why this myth isn't regarded as highly as a more authentic version of the precolonial Ilocano pantheon although it is an interesting story still.

I do want to learn more about Ilocano precolonial culture too but that's all I have for now! Hopefully it's informative enough especially since finding sources outside the Aswang Project website is rather difficult.

4) How easy is it to earn their trust?

Julian is somewhat comically easy to gain trust from if you just stroke his ego, even just a little bit. Man LOVES talking about himself and LOVES being praised and put on pedestal, hell, if you say his whole name every time you refer to him, you are good enough in his book.

Even if you're mean to him, if he likes you enough, he'll still trust you and excuse your indifferent ways as just being too astonished and overwhelmed by his magical prowess and overall presence [ sparkles ]

5) How easy is it to earn their mistrust?

The previous being said, it is also just as comically easy to lost his trust too HAHAH you can lie to him and he'll believe you, but then when he figures out you lied to him, he would theatrically announce that he'll NEVER believe you again (until he does).

He also has a default mistrust in other performers, mainly because he sees himself as being #1 that others cannot compare.

B) What inspired you to create them?

Julian was an ad-lib that I seriously enjoyed voicing and portraying that he eventually got a design to match when I was creating various stories for my royal ocs. It was just a simple goof thought of "haha, what if there was another mage to opposed The Middletons' mages and kept losing but keeps coming back to challenge again?"

I wanted him to be fancy and carry that holier-than-thou appeal to him, so this was his first draft and it stuck ever since, with some minor changes here and there

E) Are they someone you would get along with? Would they get along with you?

I find characters that have a big ego, but are still pretty down to Earth and kind in their own ways—bonus theatrical—very enjoyable, so I think I'd get along well with him. Especially if I could bully him a bit because I think he'd have the best reactions (i say as I know his reactions to getting bullied HAHAHA)

I have no clue if he'd get along with me. I mean, he would probably have me stick around since I would feed into his ego for the bit and he'd be none the wiser LMAO he wouldn't really have to do much to keep me around, plus I wanna see his magic tricks and he would wanna show them

Bonus Thoughts: He is pretty high energy and I usually get tired/burnt out during conversations, but the fact is I could probably be tired and chill and he would still keep up the energy and talk about himself or whatever is on his brain without minding if i'm not matching his energy :> this man could keep himself entertained and busy for real HAHAH

how was your day?

Quite tedious and sort of shit to be honest.

I have a bunch of basically final exams/end of Years which are basically unofficial mocks for really important tests that I have to sit relatively soon (GCSEs, idk if you've heard of them). And I've been trying to revise for them all week and I've been getting nowhere and my sister is really pissing me off right now - she asked to share my room last night and still hasn't left (it's 10:15 rn) so I can't actually try to do anything. Also this whole week I've been at my dad's which is an absolute nightmare and I want to scream and bash my head against a wall.

Hello Everyone, it’s been a while huh?

So first off, I would like to say that I have come here to inform you all that until further notice I am officially stopping any further updates to the stories I had been working on since the start of last year on AO3.

I have not fallen out of the fandom nor did I lose interest in the skeleton duo and their crazy counterparts. However, I have simply lost inspiration to continue any further with my writing. Maybe it's due to a heavy writer's block or simply the fact that I have bitten off more than I chew.

Nonetheless, I don’t know how long I will be off or how long it will take me to get my groove back, but best believe that I will try my best to keep you all in the loop. I will be posting up any further updates here on my tumblr as it goes under light construction.

Although this is not all bad news, I promise.

Think of this as the old becoming something new again.

I will be changing a lot of things as the days go by but I thank you all for enjoying what I had to offer and giving me the courage to keep doing what I love. You don’t know how much I appreciate your comments and suggestions, and I hope you all continue to support me in any future projects I might have in store.

Until then…this is the end of the chapter and I hope to see you all in the next book.
