Hey, I started reading Robin son of Batman because of your recommendation (I literally have a print of your post on my phone to not forget lol). Honestly? One of the best things I ever read!!!

Thank you for opening my eyes! Damian has been one of my favorite characters for over a year, but I didn't read/watch much of him because of school, life (and probably an executive dysfunction in the mix).

Maya is incredible. I loved her.

I haven't finished all the issues yet, but do you have any other recommendations?

i’d love to give reccs, and i’ll try to go a beginner friendly route! tbh you can pick up whatever here, but since you've read R:SOB i’d immediately follow up with Batman and Robin (2011) #1-8! this first arc is what’s referred to in Maya’s introduction, and it's just. so good.

Alhaitham got all "uhh yes um yes that no no thanku" babe do you want him to take you on a date. Is that it.

Rn I'm getting a lot more pining vibes from Alhaitham but he's too tsundere to actually get any of it across, plus he quite likes whatever the fuck they have going on rn. Meanwhile Kaveh is trying to fuck off, sort of, except every time his friends ask him if he's okay he doesn't tell them so there's literally no opportunity for him to move out which sounds like he doesn't actually wanna move out tbh.

Like, he gets the prize money and he is a person of integrity so he doesn't take it. But some people characterise Alhaitham as weirdly abusive (which is wrong, just incorrect) but if he were actually like that then Kaveh would be surely desperate enough to take some of the money just to rent a new place?? Or at least take Cyno's money when he first offers, or accept the research funding so he can get more work - but Kaveh isn't desperate at all to leave.

If you read Kaveh's character stories, you know he mostly just feels guilty about putting Alhaitham out. But Alhaitham likes Kaveh living with him!!

They are very much still bickering old married couple who have divorced twice etc, but I do think this event is a stepping stone to a slightly more overtly stable dynamic. Kinda like how Diluc and Kaeya went from outright malice to something more understanding. We'll almost certainly see more Alhaitham in Kaveh's hangout event, so I'm sure more groundwork will be laid there.

Anyway yeah it's good, really very good. Kaveh is a great character on his own but their ship also exists and is very cute - I also am not certain, but to my knowledge they are the ship that has had the most dialogue in game together? Except a few traveller ships but, you know, that's 49.9% Paimon, 0.1% traveller.

I hope you all liked the event too! I wonder if there are secret locations to find everyone in after the fact?

Made a little fanfic about how Heavy and Medic's first interaction in my TF2 x Beastars AU went down.

If you don't know what Beastars is, I recommend watching at least a little of the anime to get a feel for it (tho' some of the things I mention in the fic will reference certain things that's shown in season 2, so be warned ig). It's on Netflix, but you can also just pirate it if you don't have a subscription. You didn't hear it from me tho' :)

one aspect of azula in the spirit temple i don't think i've seen anyone discuss (because it's largely conjecture) is the form the spirit takes when presenting itself as human to azula. back when book 2 of lok was airing, there were lots of theories circulating that azula had an unacknowledged cameo as the shaman who helped to heal korra in "beginnings." i've even commented on this theory in the past. now, while this hypothesis remained unconfirmed for years, it feels as if this comic is lending credence to that idea with its undeniable imagery. i think this comic is suggesting, however subtly, that the spirit is taking the form of azula's future self.

azula's hair is as crucial in this comic as it is throughout the show. it's been a while since her breakdown during sozin's comet, so her uneven bangs have grown to slightly below her eyes. the fact that she has done nothing to "fix" these loose strands recalls her introduction, wherein "one hair out of place" was enough to upset her for fear of not being perfect. through azula's disgrace, she has shed her perfectionism (born of ozai's abuse), but the state of her hair also illustrates how frazzled and disoriented she feels, and how in not caring about her own presentation here, just how debased she has been since her initial fall from grace.

now, notice who mirrors those overgrown strands of hair in their own presentation. the spirit reflects azula's inner turmoil, not only by projecting manifestations of her desires and anxieties, but externally as well. this spirit essentially functions as azula's mirror (shattered mirrors of course being a hugely significant symbol within azula's psychological landscape).

note who else is framed by these two loose strands of hair:

while this shaman in lok is hardly identical to the spirit's humanoid form in this comic, this crucial piece symbolism (retroactively employed, especially considering that the shaman's loose strands are smaller, perhaps indicating a calmer mindset if we extend the logic of what it signifies) feels like a deliberate allusion on the parts of the writers and illustrators of the comic. they clearly don't have the leeway to say what form azula's future will take (they can't even "redeem" her, since it could potentially interfere with avatar studio's plans for other projects down the line), but by addressing this largely baseless fan theory of yore, it feels like the comic is intimating that in the grand scheme of things, despite how abject her conditions (both external and internal) may be now, she's gonna turn out all right.

#this is probably the only lok fan theory that was floating around at the time that i dont fully hate #as opposed to theories of sokkas progeny or katara being relegated to aangs housewife or whatever. which obviously suck so bad #azula in the spirit temple #azula #id in alt text #analysis #i have a couple more posts left in me after this about the comic #but i think my prev post abt it and then this one covers most of what i wanted to say #though maybe i'll discuss the 'asylum' and zuko's figuring bc i've seen some cool posts abt that and i wanna insert my 2 cents #but idk. anyway . one must imagine azula happy

Hey there! Please drink some water! I know you sent that request in a few days ago, but I hope you're feeling better now!

Farah and Laswell with a Reader with a Headache

Farah: She’d get fussy over you and demand you drink some water immediately. Won’t say too much while handing you a big glass of water, though. You better drink half of it in one go and gradually drink the rest of it sooner rather than later. She makes sure that you will drink the water and refills the glass as well, doesn’t matter how much you complain. She can be stern when she needs to be and this is one of those times. She doesn’t immediately grab some headache meds, though, opting for literally everything else first. Drink some water, go to bed at a reasonable time, take a long nap, just rest up, that sort of stuff. Only when the headache doesn’t seem to be going away will she resort to giving you some meds. Or when it worsens, whichever comes first. However, if it’s just a headache because you haven’t slept well in a while, then she’ll usher you to sleep while she does most of the housework. Will be quiet while she does so, however. She’s a very competent sniper, she knows how to be quiet while doing something.

Laswell: Like Farah, she would not be very pleased with you not drinking much, or any, water. Will give you the nearest bottle of water she can grab, even one with a flavor you like to give you more of an incentive to drink it. Will also make sure that you actually drink it, she’ll stand beside you and watch you down the water bottle, leave and emerge with a new one in hand. Will also use meds as a last resort sort of thing and tries everything else before that. It’s not that she’s against using medication, but using too much of it can lessen its effectiveness, so she’d prefer you take a nap or go to bed to make it go away. If the headache won’t go away or gets worse then, like Farah, she’ll grab the meds and give you some. Will also usher you to bed if you’re not feeling well, she’ll leave you alone for the time being. Cooks dinner for you and her and only calls you when it’s time to eat. Afterwards it’s time for you to go to bed again and sleep the headache off. Laswell can handle herself and the housework in the meantime, but she will be a little more stern with you if you decide to wake up for no good reason. You will be sleeping it off, whether you like it or not.
