something that really fucking breaks my heart is how young so many of the journalists giving us on-the-ground coverage from gaza are. motaz is what, 24/25? bisan is 26 at most? they're my age. i cannot fathom the enormity of the trauma and grief that they are carrying while also going to such extreme lengths to ensure that israel does not erase this genocide from our collective memory. they are so terrified of being forgotten. inshallah they will live, we will never forget them.

I was reading an article from CNN about journalists in Gaza (link) and this particular paragraph stuck out to me...
Tumblr media
I was initially a journalism major in college so I understand the background of why an organization like CNN would require this style of reporting (i.e. "both sides" representism). However, these inserts of Isreali "viewpoints" that have been shown to be barefaced lies in an article about Gazan journalists risking their lives is just piss-poor optics.
If anyone wonders why people have lost faith in traditional media sources, this is a perfect example. In an article centering Palestinian voices, the organization still requires that Israeli talking points be linked as well and often, in the same paragraph. It reads like: 'here's a quote about a personal lived experience of genocide but nah uh, here's isreali propaganda claiming they are lying and bc they are an ally, they should be believed'. It's American/Western exceptionalism at its finest because "why should we believe a Palestinian, they aren't paragons of truth and justice like we are?"
I don't know if I quite explained myself like I wanted but this particular article just made me so angry that CNN and other Western media were once considered 'trustworthy' sources of information and now are parroting isreali lies. AND telling their readers that Palestinian voices on the ground telling first-hand information are not "good enough" sources of information.

Israel wants to use nuclear bombs against Palestinians. Israel wants to use NUCLEAR FUCKING BOMBS AGAINST PALESTINIANS! This is not a war, this is a genocide. This is an act of hell on earth literally. Not only do nuclear bombs have a blast radius up to half a mile, it pollutes the sea, and the air around it for decades to come. Think Chernobyl. Not only would it wipe out Gaza completely, it would make Gaza uninhabitable for anyone, effectively destroying the climate even more in the process. Mind you Israel has already attacked Lebanon and Yemen with the help of the US, UK and Canada. This will not stop at Palestine. Share, boost, share on other platforms, call and email your representatives, protest, sign petitions, boycott. This isn’t a joke, this isn’t something that doesn’t effect you, this is not normal to be witnessing day in and day out, this type of violence is not fucking normal. Palestinians are human beings just like you and me, can’t say the same for the Zionists backing this.

I would like everyone to realize something that shook me to my core. The three most front line journalists in Gaza right now (operating with ZERO international aid or protection and being very explicitly targeted by Israel) are all under the age of 25. Bisan is 25, Motaz is 24, Plestia is 19. Nineteen. They’re damn near still kids themselves. All of them literally young enough to be my own children. Plestian is barely 2 years older than my own child. And they are fighting to survive every day while documenting the death of their friends, their own families, their people. They are risking their very lives to show the world what is happening and they are barely grown themselves. Just sit with that.

One of my best friends got married at the weekend and his closing words of his speech were “Free Palestine”, and I’ve been thinking about that a lot. Even on his wedding day, one of the happiest days of his life, a day that should be all about him and his bride, that isn’t the only thing on his mind. It can’t be. We’re all thinking about Palestine and the genocide of its people all the time.
All day I’m checking in on the journalists I follow in Gaza, my stomach in a knot until I see they’ve posted again today and they’re at least still alive, but then my heart broken to see what cruel injustice they’re showing us today. All of us with any scrap of humanity are behind Palestine, and passionately, even if the people meant to represent us are reticent or even adamantly refusing to actually represent our wishes. My friends and I are Irish, so we’ve grown up surrounded by pro-Palestine support: it’s huge here and always has been and our government is one of the ~better~ ones in this regard, but this isn’t unique to countries who are politically pro-Palestine. World-wide, I see rallies, protests, demonstrations, from huge crowds of regular people, even in countries whose policies and governments are deeply on the wrong side of history. Those regular people are what I think we should pay attention to.
Don’t lose heart. Don’t give up on Palestinians. Keep following them, keep listening to them, keep supporting them. Keep up the rallies, keep fighting, keep talking. It can be discouraging to see so few governments doing anything about this and news stories misrepresenting the facts, but don’t fall into thinking that nobody cares or give up. I believe people care. Regular people care. It may not be everyone, and it may not be the majority of the people in power, but I believe there are enough of us to help; we can pressure the people in power to listen if we’re loud enough and determined enough, and every single person saved from these atrocities would be worth the world. This is a dire situation. This is urgent. But it’s not over.
There is evil being done in the world but there is decency in humanity and hope is not lost. From the river to the sea, Palestine MUST be free.

Good morning everybody. The last functioning hospital at Gaza has been carpet bombed by Israeli forces as the news I read. Bisan was there reporting and she fears this is her last post. Don't stop screaming and speaking about Gaza. Don't stop supporting Palestine. Don't stop.
I think about this and I think about Motaz saying we have done nothing. He is right. He is always right. Because if we had opened our eyes earlier and added pressure earlier. If we hadn't forgotten about palestine in 2020 then maybe we could have done something, anything. Countless lives has been lost. Families have been wiped out. People are dying of starvation, hunger and diseases in Gaza. These monsters want to wipe out all Palestinans from their own land. And we are just watching this happen.
We are sorry Gaza. We will not stop screaming "From the River to the sea, Palestine will be free" from the rooftops until you all are free and you get your land, ALL of it back. We will not stop supporting you.
Edit: Last FUNCTIONING hospital. I'm sorry for the misinformation.

Tumblr only allows ten photos at a time. There are 35. 35 pages of names. Of civilians. Mothers and brothers and daughters and sons and people that just wanted to love their country and live freely with in it. Who wanted peace not war. Who have been experiencing a war they could not fight and did not ask for. This is NOT a trend. Palestine is not something you can look away from and the reason Israel is failing is because we are showing the world who they are how the operate and the horrors they commit.
If you stop speaking on it because you are tired and sad and it’s all too much remember Reem. The little girl who’s grandfather cleaned her face and fixed her hair and begged her to wake up because she was just sleeping. Because he lost his whole family. Who kept telling her she was the soul of his soul as he held her one last time.
Or maybe remember the bloodlines that have been wiped from this earth because Israel wants to further occupy land that was never theirs. Remember the journalists from Al Jazeera that faced violence and were stripped of their protections because the idf would never touch CNN. Maybe that’s because American news networks aren’t exposing what they are.
Remind yourself of Motaz & Bisan. A journalist who has chosen to do every thing he can to expose Israel and save his people. Who’s heart bleeds for Palestine has he risks everything to just get his people a little bit of help. The young young woman who has bravely shouted the truth to the world. Who starts every post with “hello this is Bisan I’m still alive” because it’s a miracle that anyone is at this point.
Who else has to die? Who else has to suffer? When did we stop valuing the lives of children? Did we ever start? Or was that just for the children that were white?

Heroes of Gaza pt. 1
These people are not super heroes. They are human beings like us. They bleed and cry and struggle and even though we can’t understand 1% of what they’re going through, the danger they are in every second, even as you’re reading this, they find the strength to report what is happening and fight for justice and freedom. That is what makes them heroes of P4lst1ne. May Allah be with you, all press reporters in Palestine and all the Palestinians, especially those in Gaza. May Allah shower you with His Blessings, His Love, His Honor, His Glory, His Might, His Warmth, His Safety, and His Victory, allahuma ameen 🤲

If two YouTubers that haven’t been “relevant” since 2013 can raise 83,000$ for Gaza, then yall can share posts about Gaza. It’s literally the least you can do.
