Toni is a weaver and polymer clay artist who graduated from Derby University with a First Class BA (Hons) degree in Textile Design. During lockdown she also turned to polymer clay as a way to experiment with pattern and colour. This lead to a new range of jewellery and accessories. At heart a constructer of things, Toni’s pool of inspiration is eclectic. The running themes in all of her work are saturated colour, pattern and interaction with light. This can be seen clearly in both her weaving work and polymer clay jewellery and sculptures. During this time of closures, isolation, and general uncertainty it is imperative more than ever that we support our small businesses, their employees, and the creatives that make up a huge percentage of the global and American populations. For the majority of small businesses stay afloat means standing on a very thin sheet of ice. Insurance, utilities, employees wages, supplies, and the general costs of business are a continual balancing act. Recently made 4 of these realistic linden brooches and added 3 of them to my Etsy shop: WWHeart.etsy.com . Remember the first experimental one? I’m happy that you loved it but it hard to make it to order, repeat ‘cause they always appears different! So I’ll make them from time to time for sale and you can choose your fav ones. . Every single one is unique in shape and color. It’s hard to make the same burned texture on all of them but I kinda like to make them different! Like this time I tried to make pin smaller version as well and use more brass for golden variant. One already found it’s home so you should be quick if won’t miss it😊 . When I was a freshman in college I created this massive business plan for a business that would sell locally made goods in rural communities. We’d work with local farmers, crafters, and artists to create goods locally that would be sold locally. The idea was it’d start as a shop on Main Street and each of the vendors in it would be a part of an incubator to grow and establish their own business. Over time they’d go out on their own in the vacant buildings and shops in the downtown. Eventually revitalizing a small town purely on the idea of locally produced goods. It would be a tourist attraction because of the beautiful, unique, and well made goods. It would be supported by locals, because they’d have personal connections to the vendors and the goods. Over time there would be these shops in small towns all over and they’d all support each other...creating a network for handmade. My love of local living and handmade and American made is just intrinsically a part of who I am. I come from a small town and i am so darn proud of it. For the past decade that plan has just sat in a binder in storage as my actual business has grown...but I’ve always dreamt of a day when that dream could come to life. Today isn’t that day....but because we live in a digital world I get to do something else...a digital version. Over the past few months we’ve worked with a start up to create a marketplace for really beautiful, well made, and practical handmade goods, American made goods, and folk art. I’m going to get to work with people in my own communities to produce goods from rural western Kentucky, but I’m also going to get to work with makers, businesses, and artists from all across the US to fill the marketplace. As we finish the backend of the new marketplace we’re looking for a few good vendors. If any of this interests you or anyone you know please DM me.
