Okay, I'm closing in on the end of Tomb Raider, and despite many frustrating moments, the game has overall been pretty solid, especially for something that came out decades ago. I do have the repeated issue of getting stuck, looking up the next step in a puzzle, then feeling like an idiot because it actually should have been obvious in hindsight, but that's probably more of a me problem than any issue with the game.
However, the remaster has a unique problem that has started to show up in a few places. By making certain graphics fancy, the game becomes harder to complete due to issues of lighting and items blending in to the environment. Both Cistern and Tomb of Tihocan have required items that are so small and dark in the remaster graphics that they are practically invisible, but in the original graphics they are big chunky icons that are nearly impossible to miss. Additionally, in City of Khamoon, the last keyhole I needed to interact with was dark red in a room that was also dark red, with the newer lighting making it difficult to catch at a glance. In original graphics? Popped right out on the screen, easy to find.
I have found it to be more than a bit troublesome that the graphic switching button feels damn near required to solve some puzzles if you have never played the game before. And I'm not the only person who has brought up the invisible keys issue from Cistern especially. It feels like someone probably should have really gone over this with an inexperienced player before deciding that the new graphics were totally perfect and ready to ship.

The Cistern of Cantelcar - Belfry City.
The Cistern is an artificial open-air reservoir in the city of Belfry's Cantelcar district. The site was originally an ancient stone quarry which was later converted into a reservoir, filled by fresh water via an aqueduct. Belfry had 7 such cisterns (3 of which were underground), which all proved especially vital during the many sieges the city had endured throughout its history. Today the cistern is no longer used as a source of drinking water, instead irrigating the nearby botanical gardens and several of the city's fountains.

Polly had discovered long ago that if you opened a certain little door in the box-room attic of her house you would find the cistern and a dark place behind it which you could get into by a little careful climbing.

Did you know that all of our water needs come from rain water? After two months without a drop, we finally got some rain again! Everyone’s cisterns had dried out and I even had to move the plants closer to the house so that I can water them with whatever I find to shower with. Now I’m going around collecting any standing water I find in the yard to store for for the days to come. I’m soooooooo grateful right now! . . Èske w te konnen tout bezwen dlo nou yo soti nan dlo lapli? Apre de mwa san yon gout, nou finalman te resevwa yon ti lapli yè swa! Sitèn tout moun te fin chèch nèt epi mwen menm te gen pou avanse plant yo pi pre kay la pou m 'ka wouze yo ak dlo m’ap benyen a. Koulye a, mwen pral alantou Lakou a pou’m kolekte nenpòt dlo kanpe mwen jwenn pou’m konsève pou jou kap vini yo. Mwen di mesi! . . #growninhaiti #cistern #watercatchment #rainwater #waterislife #community #sustainable #rehydrate #grateful #mesi https://www.instagram.com/p/CmG0ImzOqIz/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
