Random scene that just popped up in my head,
Annabeth and the Argo 2 crew lost Percy in a crowd.
Piper: what are we going to do?
Annabeth: don't worry I got this.
Annabeth, screams at the top of her voice: BLUE IS THE UGLIEST COLOUR!!
Everyone: waits for Percy to show up.
Random person, screams back: HEL YEAH TELL THEM!!
Annabeth: Magnus?
Magnus: Annabeth? what are you doing here?
Annabeth: we were—
Percy: screaming from the distance, cutting her off, just screaming btw no context at all.
Percy, finally standing next to them: who the Hades just insulted blue?
Annabeth: it was me, I was trying to—
Magnus: I did it, are you implying that you are defending the ugliest colour in existence?
Percy, eyes narrowed: who's this gremlin?
Magnus: I'm nearly as tall as you, who are you calling gremlin you dimwit?
Percy: you better watch you mouth, pretty boy.
Annabeth: Percy, stop.
Magnus, also narrowing his eyes: or what, what would you do?
Percy: oh, you won't like the answer, sweetheart.
Magnus, taking a step closer to Annabeth: why are you calling me pet names? You alright, bro?
Percy, winks: oh honey, I'm perfectly fine.
Magnus: ok I'm scared, Annabeth tell your friend to stop.
Annabeth: Percy, stop flirting with my cousin!
Percy: I'm not flirting!
Magnus, speaking just before Annabeth: you know what, nice seeing you again Annabeth, I kinda have to go back to my group, hearth starts to worry when I'm late, see you around, I guess.
Poor boy just disappeares into the crowd again, traumatized probably.
Annabeth: sighs.
Percy: now before you say anything! I'll explain!!
Annabeth: Take your time. Explain.
Percy: so, yeah... umm....
Annabeth:
Percy:
Annabeth:
Percy:
Hazel, whispers in the background: what did I just witness...?
Leo, whispers back: I don't know, but the dude was cute though.

(Updated Drawing for a second time) Name: Jay Maxwell Tennyson Nickname: Jace, Jay Jay, Human Omnitrix, Lill’ Ben, Hero Boy, Omni Boy (By Feike) Age: 13 Gender: Male Birthday: February 7 Sexual Orientation: ??? (Just like his father) Ethnicity/Species: American/Japanese - Human/'Omnitrix' Personality: Adventurous, Often has self-doubt, Sensitive, Cultured, Dependable, Brave, Hopeful, Persistent, Impulsive, Jokester, Trustful, Has slight anxiety problems, Forgiving, Selfless. Hobbies: Gaming, mostly survival games. A couple of sports (He's known to play tennis with his mother). Learning and Reading up on aliens and their cultures. Collecting items/souvenirs. Photography. Designing with Family:
Ben Tennyson - (Father/Jay has always looked up to his father, striving to be a hero like. However, there are issues between them, in that Jay struggles with how often his father isn't around, out in space-saving the day on another planet. He understands why this is, but it makes it hard to spend time together, along with seeing the struggles his mother goes through, even if she accepts this with Ben. That being said, anytime Ben visits, Jay jumps at the chance to spend time with his father.)
Julie Yamamoto - (Mother/Absolutely adores his mother and vice versa. Since Ben is often away, Jay has picked up a lot of Julie's habits and behaviour, even hobbies, like tennis. He's always eager to help her around and the house and spending quality mother and son time. He's very thankful his mother raised him to be patient, kind and polite, a big part of his personality.)
Ship - (Pet - Galvanic Metamorph/He's always loved the pet blob of the family. When he was born, Ship was very excited about Jay's presence, doing whatever he could to make the baby boy laugh. It's been the same, even as Jay grew up. The happy blob will always comfort the boy, especially through his anxiety attacks or self-doubt moments.)
Muse - (Pet - Null Void Guardian/Muse wasn't the kind of pet Jay thought he'd get, but he loves her anyway. Having saved her during a mission in the null void, the creature became rather attached to him as they don't normally have positive interaction with other species, even their caretakers. She loves cuddles and having Jay's attention, but can be very protective if anyone dares to hurt her human.)
Tundra, Orion, Vale, Neva, North, Crystal, Alaska, Micha, Storm, Gray, Raine, Arlo, Zodiac and Lux - (Half-Siblings/Jay is very close to his fourteen Necrofriggians siblings, despite the species differences. He's never really questioned how unusual it was having them as siblings, even when people give weird glances. His siblings also adore their baby brother, spoiling him whenever they visit.)
Ivory - (Kind of half sister? It’s complicated/When Jay bumped into Ivory the first time, during a mission where Khyber was running around, he had to say he was surprised to see someone who had similar features to him and to his dad. After explaining this run-in with his parents, it didn’t take them long to come to the conclusion she must be the daughter of Albedo, back from when he was still human. Since then, Jay has tried reaching out to her, not only because he believes she can find a better life beyond Khyber, but also because he has a feeling she wants family, just as he wouldn’t mind having another sibling around...But for now, she brushes him off.)
Gwen Tennyson - (First cousin once removed/'Aunt'/Much like Ben, he looks up to his aunt, always eager to hear stories she shares with her father and Kevin. Since Gwen and Kevin aren't off earth as much as Ben now of days, Julie and Jay often visit for dinners. He likes to ask her help with schoolwork during these visits, though lately he's also been interested in learning about Ledgerdomain. Gwen has a feeling it might be because of a certain spell caster he is crushing on, but he hasn't said anything.)
Kevin Levin - (first cousin once removed in-law/'Uncle'/Somehow, Kevin was often the one that both Jay and Thea were dumped on to babysit. He would complain, but he really did adore the pair, even recording some of their younger interactions and adventure, which were both hilarious and adorable. Jay likes to show his uncle love when he can, as he knows very well how rough Kevin's background is.)
Cynthia Levin - (Second Cousins/The two basically act like siblings, teasing one another, hanging out often and venting to each other when they need it. Even if the two-act like opposites, they play off each other well. With Thea being more bombastic and outward, she helps keep Jay out of all the trouble he gets caught in by mistake. She does what she can to protect him from bullies or galaxy criminals, sometimes even from himself. That being said, Jay is one of the only few who can pull her back from her aggression, showing her that there are calmer and nicer ways to handle things. His forgiving nature sometimes worries her, because she knows it'll backfire and get him hurt sometimes, but she has been amazed by it, as shown through his many connections with aliens they've met, even some who were dangerous or criminals. Even if they have hard arguments or struggle to understand one another at times, they'll always have each other's back.)
Ken Tennyson - (First cousin once removed/'Uncle'/While he enjoys his life with space and aliens, he does appreciate having a family member who is very down to earth. Ken is a very supportive and wise uncle, often knowing just what to say or do to cheer Jay up.)
Carl Tennyson - (Grandfather/Carl, of course, loves his grandson, happy to babysit him and have him over. However, because of Carl's effects of galaxy life and aliens as a child, he sometimes struggles to talk with Jay, who adores that lifestyle. Jay understands, as he and Carl both had/have Plumber fathers often off-world, along with how his grandfather was somewhat abandoned by Verdona, his own mother, in his younger years.)
Sandra Tennyson - (Grandmother/Sandra has always doted on her grandbaby since he was born. Always jumping to babysit, playing with him and proudly shows him off to her friends. She is also the one who inspired his photography hobby.)
Mr Yamamoto - (Grandfather/Despite Julie's father's issues towards Ben, he's always been gentle and kind towards Jay, often being the one to remind him of the beauty of earth.)
Verdona - (Great Grandmother/Verdona and Jay have a friendly relationship, often openly showing affection through hugs or chatting away. While it does somewhat hurt, he doesn't resent her for mostly coming around for Gwen and Thea, because of their Anodite sides. Since he can change into different aliens, he understands very well that every alien functions different, so he can't fault her in her behaviour, so he'll take what he can get.)
Maxwell Tennyson - (Great Grandfather/A legend in Jay's eyes, being who his middle name is from. Even though Max is retired and spends these days in his RV with Xyelne, he's always happy to tell Jay stories of his old Plumber days. The boy will listen to every word with wonder in his eyes. Max has even told stories on Ben when he was very young, including the summer vacation when he first got the watch. It always puts a smile on the boy's face.)
Xylene - (Great Grandfather Figure/While Xylene isn’t amazing with kids due to her background, her and Jay get along nicely since he’s a polite and calm boy. She has a way of speaking with Jay where she can be blunt and honest, but in a manner that he understands and doesn't get hurt by. Like getting that needed push to do something.)
Frank Tennyson - (Great Uncle/He enjoys the boy's soft presents and can always ask Jay for help here and there.)
Natalie Tennyson - (Great Aunt/Natalie likes having Jay around, as he's always eager to help with housework. She does love her granddaughter, but having a quieter child around is sometimes more preferred.)
Friends:
Vanessa Morningstar - (The two have a sweet relationship, despite Thea’s rivalry with her and Vanessa’s parents. They treat each other with respect and trust, and for Vanessa, this is something not common to her. He's always ready to listen to her and doesn't believe she is destined to be a villain, even with her heritage. There have also been noticeable sparks between the two, but with all that goes on, it's hard to make something of it.)
Malax Shard - (Friend/A common friend and partner in Plumber training. Unlike Thea's uncertainty towards his gentle side, Malax has full trust in it. She knows his personality is rare in this line of work and is something desperately needed at times. That being said, she's often the one to give him the tough talks about reality and how harsh it gets. He respects her for this and both would have each other's back in any fight.)
Rook Rilla - (Friend/Another common friend and partner in Plumber training. The two have known each other since childhood, due to how close their fathers were. Rilla’s dry wit and no nonsense attitude has, admittedly, gotten Jay out of some tough problems, and the two play off each other well while working on the field.)
Feike - (Friend/He started out with issues towards Feike, mostly because of his flirting towards Thea. But, over time, Jay has started to see more to him. It's clear to him Feike isn't exactly happy where he is and feels trapped, being abused and manipulated by his boss, Sciros. He's tried reaching out to him, but the other teen likes to brush it off and tells him not to get involved.)
Renata - (Friend/Because of Reiny and Ben's friendship, there had been some playdates set up between the two when they were young. Despite how hard it is to communicate with Renata, Jay has come to understand how to talk to her, thanks to these playdates. He'll often go to her for space politic problems, given her status and training. Even though she doesn't show much emotions, she can show a protective side around him.)
Azmuth - (Friend/Azmuth is normally the one to take a look at his biology and powers if needed. Ben has also dropped Jay off for rare babysitting, Azmuth can only be so thankful Jay will listen to him and be quiet when told. He's always found it amusing how gentle Jay is compared to his father. He's also to happily talk about embarrassing moments about Ben to the boy.)
Etherea’Liss - (Friend/Their first meeting had been a little iffy, as Jay had met Zs’Skayr a few months before meeting her. But he quickly came to see that Ectonurites are not like him, and she's always happy to educate him on her home planet and people. In return, he helps her adjust to life outside of her home.)
Enemies:
Eldrigma (Enemy/Ever since this man showed up, Jay has been chasing him across the galaxy, feeling responsible in stopping him. However, with each encounter, they learn something new, that there's more to the story behind this man. As much as he wants to stop him and fight him, Jay is starting to see something grim and sorrowful behind the man's dark outside.)
Professor Alate - (Enemy/Honestly, this man creeps him the hell out. His intelligence as always been trouble for Jay, often getting outsmarted by the scientist. This wouldn't be so bad, if it weren't for the fact that Alate has this dedicated goal to catch Jay and experiment on him, mostly because of his Omnitrix biology.)
Sciros (Enemy/Jay has nothing but bad thoughts about this man, stemmed from kidnapping him and hurting friends like Feike and Vanessa, tricking and abusing them. He desperately wants to keep his friends away from the man, but his grip is tight and he knows how to keep them inline.)
Vilgax ('Enemy?'/It’s mostly Vilgax’s history with his father that scares him the most. Vilgax can be a hard foe to fight and is willing to use Jay to get revenge on Ben, however, with Jay’s teachings from his father and the fact Vilgax doesn’t have that great of an understanding since it’s been twenty years, Jay can fight against him and survive him. After seeing Vilgax around, he’s come to the realization that Vilgax isn’t as scary as most of the other villains Jay is currently fighting. He’s also given warnings to Vilgax about Alate.)
Representing Song: Human - Christina Perri
Skills: Enhanced Endurance/Stamina. Alien Morphing (He's able to turn into aliens without a watch, thanks to his unique biology). Hand-To-Hand Combat. Multilingualism (Jay can actually speak and understand a few alien languages, comes in handy). Photographic Memory. Makeup, dress ups, hairstyles, Jay is amazing at finding the right outfit or disguising others.
Weakness/Flaws/Fears: Monophobia (Fear of being alone or lonely), Atychiphobia (Fear of failure), Sometimes Anthropophobia (Fear of people. But depending on what people are currently like, especially in school, also depending on his mood) Slight Catoptrophobia (Fear of mirrors. Sometimes he can’t stand looking into the mirror, easily after something sudden or traumatic) Didaskaleinophobia (Fear of school) Autophobia (Fear of oneself). Sometimes changing aliens, becoming one or turning human can fail, especially if he has barely any focus. He keeps his injuries and damage he gets from fights as his aliens, even in his human form. Lack of energy or being rendered unconscious can make him turn back to human. He gains the weakness of his aliens. He needs to focus to be able to transform. His hidden sensitivity and anxiety can hinder his progress and the mission he’s on. He has a habit of taking on too much work, struggling to say no to others who depend on him. In rare cases, his biology can go out of whack sometimes, causing things like blindness, dizziness, struggling to walk E.T.C but it’s never permanent, so far. In his human form, he isn’t the strongest fighter and barely has any defense in tanking hits.
First Ten Forms:

Lavizard

;   ---   SHATTERED HILT   /   01
summary: ru’kali survives order 66. cal kestis does, too. while cal spends his days on bracca, stripping starships for parts, ru spends her days earning her protection from the empire in the fighting pits on ordo eris; both do what it takes to survive. but, when a wayward quest and a plethora of owed debts lead cal kestis straight back to his fellow padawan -- a once shy girl turned raging fire -- the pit fighter is left with a choice: leave, or spend the rest of her life a pawn in a game much bigger than her. pairing: cal kestis / original female character, ru’kali lof word count: 2k a/n: i cannot remember the last time i wrote something that wasn’t a reader-insert, and i’m not sure how this will do -- feedback is genuinely appreciated on this, since i know i’m mostly a reader writer! everyone loved ru from her intro to my clone trooper squad, which you can read here!
Ru’kali Lof startles awake to the sound of three loud, rough bangs on the door to her quarters.
She wonders bitterly, as she blinks up at the ceiling, if she can just ignore the sound. With any luck, they’ll leave her alone and Ru can go back to bed --
Then, the knocks come again. Louder and faster.
“Rise ‘n’ shine, sweetheart!”
Ru snarls.
Beneath the durasteel door, she can see the long shadow of someone shifting back and forth in their boots -- immediately, the Mirialan, as she stands and throws herself to the door, knows it’s Atticus. The sheer bombastic chaos that follows the bounty hunter swims through the force to greet her before she even opens the door.
When she does, he’s got an arm on the doorframe and he’s leering.
Atticus Rex isn’t much to look at, nor is he kind nor smart, but he’s muscle -- his head is shaved in a tight buzz, littered with scars, and his muzzled grin is picked clean with a toothpick that hangs from his lips.
He smells like day-old ale and sweat.
“Where y’ been, Ru?”
It leaks out of him like a jab. She has to restrain the snarl that threatens to leap across her face. Her attitude is sharp and wants to go straight for the Haxion Brood Lieutenant’s throat.
“Asleep,” she bites, crossing her arms and cocking a hip as she goes to hit the switch and shut the door, “Do you mind?”
Atticus snorts, hand planted on the frame and forcing the door to stay open.
Ru leans back, peering into her room, to eye the chronometer hanging on the wall. The digits read 1038 -- it’s late, and she’d finally fallen asleep after she’d managed to quiet down the usual roaring river in her mind. Not an easy task.
"Get dressed,” the Bounty Hunter chirps, “S’ fight night, sunshine.”
--
Fight nights were common.
But, fight nights were Ru fought? Those were rare -- and though she’s sure Sorc Tormo would put her in the ring every night if he could, she’s also aware that to the Umbaran crime-lord she’s an asset. A big asset. A big, money-making asset that draws a big crowd and big bets.
Huge bets.
(The exact kind of bets that got Greez Dritus into this mess in the first place, and by proxy his new-found friend.)
Ordo Eris, on fight nights, becomes more like a city than the cold, lonely, terrible astroid colony it really is. The space station fills with scoundrels and thugs from all across the galaxy who traverse the rocky space around the arena’s hub to get a spot around the ring -- Ru eyes the growing crowd, nearly every attendee with credits in hand, as the lift carries her upwards to the top level of the arena’s loge.
Beside her Atticus flicks the smoldering bud of his deathstick down the shaft.
Speaking of Sorc Tormo, the sleaze ball greets Ru’kali with wide open arms and a devious grin.
“Ah! My prized warrior princess!”
Ru cross her arms and swaggers forward -- the small rope of lucky beads tied to her sash tinkers as she does, knocking against the chromium smelted hilt of one of her two sabers. One is hers from when she was a Padawan. The other is a recent build and it’s temperamental. Using a stolen, mined kyber crystal is to blame, no doubt.
Master Yoda was right -- the crystals are supposed to pick the Jedi.
Atticus meanders along behind you. Skulking as per usual.
Ru looks out past the arena to the screens bolted up along the pit. Pale blue eyes narrow tightly, the deep scar over her right eye warping slightly as she does. The broadcast is in the lower levels. Some idiot running around on the walls. Plugging wires in.
A show, for sure.
Ru raise a brow.
“What’s all this about?” she asks, turning to eye Sorc Tormo.
The Umbaran man is eccentric, to say the least. His facial hair runs right down his chin in one fine line, green in color. That same green, punchy and vomit-reminiscent, echoes in his Canto Bight-esque outfit. Large, pompous sleeves and pants that are three sizes too tight. All green.
He looks like seventy kliks of bad road, honestly.
Hell, everyone on Ordo Eris does.
Ru’kali is no exception -- she’s rougher than she was when she first arrived here. Littered in scars and bitter. The years of pit fighting have settled in her stance and though she’s athletic, she’s a rogue brawler with enough crackling, dangerous rage to power an entire Star Destroyer.
Fighting takes the edge off. Makes her feel less afraid.
“Well,” the lone, pale fingers of the Umbaran curl around Ru’kali’s pale pink shoulders, nails drumming against the diamond shaped markings there, “I am glad you asked, my dear. We have a special contender for you --”
“Cut to the chase, Tormo.”
The egg shaped head of the Umbaran rolls as he steps away, waving off Ru’s evident irritation; the crime-lord gestures to the screen. “He’s friends with someone who owes me a lotta money. He was carrying this around --”
His fingers snap twice.
“Atticus --”
Ru’kali was not expecting Atticus Rex to procure, from the back of his belt, a lightsaber.
And she certainly wasn’t expecting him to hand it to Tormo and for the Umbaran to ignite it, presenting a glimmering yellow blade.
The Mirialan’s face falls -- anger bubbles up there, warping the navy tattooed features of her face as she steps forward and yanks the hilt from the hands of the crime-lord.
Her lips twitches.
“What?” she sneers vengefully, “Did he pull this from a corpse, then?”
She has seen another Jedi’s saber three times now in this station. Once on the belt of a traveler who’d laughed in her face and waved the blue thing around, proudly proclaiming they’d bought it off clone trooper for drinking money. The second time, on a bounty hunter -- he’d murdered a Jedi Knight for Imperial credits, kept the blade though. The third, was now.
Ru could only assume the weapon to be another stolen relic, a ground-in-the-dirt memory of her life before Ordo Eris. This contender probably had no idea how to use it, let alone the life this saber had before now.
A laxidasical wave. “Maybe. Don’t care. But! My sweet, sweet, Jedi -- I want you to kill him. Seeing two saber swordsmen dueling... Goodness, me oh my, that will certainly bring in the money, won’t it, Atticus?”
“Sure will.”
And it does.
--
Cal Kestis is having a pretty shit day.
Not that he’d ever say so -- no, because, sure, it might be terrible and he might be navigating some wild underground dungeon maze, but Cal has BD-1 back on his shoulder and that’s all that matters.
He’s got a mission, he’s got BD-1, and despite being a little sore, he’s good. All good. Everything’s good. Totally good.
As he rides the lift to the upper levels of this... place... Cal wonders if he’s gonna eat that sentiment.
The first thing he hears is the chants -- raucous roars of a large crowd. Before him lays a large square space, illuminated by stark spotlights and swarmed with drone droids, each with blinking red lights on their helms to show their recording status.
It becomes abundantly clear to Cal that he’s suddenly in the spotlight. And, that the itching feeling that he was being watched was correct.
The redheaded Jedi steps out from under the bay, suddenly exposed to the bright light of the arena.
Around him on the upper decks are hundreds of people, all clamoring to get a view of him -- the large screens on the sides of the loge show him squinting, raising a hand and grimacing into the light.
BD-1 gives a worried boowoop.
“I got a bad feeling about this too, lil’ buddy.”
Suddenly, a holo-projection fizzles in before Cal -- large and tall and to the excitement of the crowd. The man’s appearance is met with a rise in cheers, rolling off the voices of the spectators with thirst for action.
Sorc Tormo laughs.
“Ah, finally he arrives!”
The projection waves wildly, spinning about, and Cal watches carefully as this eccentric ego-maniac waves his hand with a grandiose flourishes as he speaks.
“We had action on how long it would take for you to get here!”
Yeah, well, BD-1 was kinda his priority.
Irritation bites at Cal’s features. The Jedi scowls. His stance is tense.
“And who are you?” Cal calls out, voice rising over the roar of the crowd.
“Ha ha ha! Who am I? I’m Sorc Tormo, baby! I’m the boss of this operation!”
The crowd goes wild at that, whoops and hollers serenading the arena to the tune of the crimelord’s name. A television drone swoops close to Cal’s head and the Jedi side-steps it with a disgusted look on his face.
“Right,” Cal snarks, “Is that supposed to mean something to me?”
“Maybe not you, but to your friend Greezy Four-arms it does! You’ve got him to thank for gettin’ you into this pickle!”
Of course.
Cere had made a comment off-hand about the pilot’s penchant for gambling -- not that Cal was any stranger to the concept. Back on Bracca, Prauf had muscled Cal into tagging along to a few card games here and there. And though the redhead never partook in wagering his entire week’s pay on precious metals, Prauf had once or twice. On those nights that Prauf lost -- because he always lost -- there was nothing that could lift the Abednedo’s mood.
Not even a signature Cal Kestis smile 'n’ pat on the back.
Cal could use one of those right about now.
“Yeah, well, once I’m finished with you, I will thank Greez,” it comes out just as cocky as it feels -- and maybe Cal shouldn’t had tried the attitude.
Either way, when this Sorc Tormo guy laughs and waves his hand, proclaiming, “No, no, my friend, you won’t be fighting me...”
Suddenly, the air becomes electric.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” the crime-lord turns on a heel, gesturing to the crowd with the all the practiced cool of an entertainer, “Our lovely little guest will be going head to head with our favorite...”
There’s a crescendo of excitement. Cal notices an uptick on the counter on the broadcast screens -- he realize, quickly, that they’re bets and currently, someone named Fropolo’f is betting the most money against him. Real confidence booster that is.
“Someone get baby his toy! He’s gonna need it!”
His lightsaber is launched from the loge, and the Jedi catches it quickly, igniting it on instinct as his skin crawls in anticipation. The redhead looks around, eyes cast on the crowds of smugglers and thugs lining the balcony.
The wide angle shot of fear on his face is painted across the rumbling arena’s screens.
Before Cal can bite in a retort, the echo of boots on durasteel begins -- coordinated and rhythmic. Boom... boom... boom... boom, boom, boom.
“You know her well -- a pure whirlwind of rage! She’s pink, she’s tatted, she’s daaaaaaaangerous!”
Boom-boom-boom. Boom-boom-boom.
BD makes a nervous boo-weeeeeeeep as the pace picks up. Cal swallows, gloved fist tightening nervously around the hilt of his glowing, golden blade. Green eyes dart around the square expanse of the arena, trying to get a gauge on where this opponent might appear from --
“Give it up for our girl...”
Boomboomboom, boomboomboom.
“RUUUUUUUU’KALLLLI!”
The roar is deafening.
Suddenly, the paneling in the floor separates, and from it emerges --
“...Ru?”
Ru’kali Lof is suddenly staring face-to-face with a ghost.
Her stance, wide-set with double blades humming in a hot white, seems to crack when she finally sees the face of her opponent.
She’s a handful of meters away but she’d know that flash of red hair anywhere.
Cal Kestis.
Cal fucking Kestis.
Oh, this is bad.
This is really bad.

Forgotten Light Ch. 1: Refractions
Summary: Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. All the king’s horses and all the king’s men . . . couldn’t put Thomas back together again.
Chapters: 1, 2, 3
During the several days that the Sides were in Brighton, the Coalition went through their house and every room they tended to frequent in the base with a fine-toothed comb. Trying to find another aura trail, which King, Nate, and Mare were doing the bulk of the aura searching.
The humans came in their civilian attire, not wanting to draw attention to the Sides’ home.
Deep indigos, pastel blues, sparkling reds, and vibrant purples. All the Core Sides were accounted for. There was evidence that Janus and Remus had been over to their home by the faint aura trails.
“So what else are we looking for?” Silver groaned as Jackie came back in from searching places the Sides liked to regularly frequent.
“I’ve got fook-all[1],” Jackie groaned.
“We need evidence of someone living here since March, because that’s when Deceit and the Duke moved out,” King rubbed at his eyes under his glasses. “And Spade doesn’t count. Spade was just spicy Logan with extra steps. He’d have almost the exact same type of aura as him.”
Joan sighed. “Either way this place is clear, what if we don’t find it?”
“Then we hope the legate is dead,” King decided. “Which is probably a good thing. Being trapped for so long without a lot of aura, it would probably make any demon crazy.”
“So what are we supposed ta[2] do?” Jackie groaned. “Put e’erythin’ back an’ pretend nothin’s happened? All yah’ve told us about this thin’ is that it’s dangerous or somethin’.”[3]
“Honestly I’ve never heard of one either,” Mare admitted, coming out of a wall. “I knew there were other types of demons, but I thought it was just a regional language thing.”
“Well different cultures do call you guys different things in different part of the world and that does influence it a little,” King agreed.
“Kid,” Mare crossed his arms in front of his chest. “You’re an empath just like me, you’re just a small one.”
King frowned, glaring at Mare. “Least I still have my own body, I don’t have to borrow or steal someone else’s.”
Mare looked exceptionally smug, “Just wait until yours starts rusting on you. Bodies don’t last forever. You’ll pick a fight, or someone will pick a fight with you while Daddy’s not watching, and you’ll lose. Or your body will get so useless you’ll have to leave it. It happens to everyone. You think Nate was my first body, or the one your old man’s got was his? Bodies don’t last forever, Dark’s probably overdue a trade out. Being in a broken down body can’t be good but he was always made of nothing but spite and coffee so fuck that body, I guess.”
King just about bared his teeth at the older demon, but he didn’t want anymore of that smug look pointed at him and thankfully Nate intervened.
“Okay, okay,” Nate used his magic to nudge Mare away, trying to break the stand-off and deescalate the two of them. “Let’s focus on this legate, because I was raised with the Legionnaires and I just thought that a legion was like a group of demons like a murder of crows. It’s why the Legionnaires chose their name because they were a powerful force, or at least I thought so.”
“Well that is partially true,” King agreed, searching for something in the magic space he had on the inside of his cape. “A group of demons is called a legion, but it’s also a type of demon for the same reason.”
Then King paused, “Shoot, I forgot it at the base, and we should probably go back to the base, leave this place back for them.”
“Yeah we’ve combed through this place enough,” King sighed and Joan and Silver stayed behind to make sure everything was moved back to where it was supposed to be as everyone headed back to the base.
King went to go find the tome he’d been looking for in his room, and while he was gone Silver and Joan came back into the base.
“I think we got everything back to where it was,” Silver told them. “But I guarantee we missed something.”
Joan rolled their eyes. “Lo’s absolutely gonna[4] know someone went through their house, and if he somehow doesn’t find out I guarantee you Virgil will when he goes through his stuff. He used to live with the Duke after all.”
King walked back in, Lunky clinging to his cape, King smiled and was talking with his child. There was an old book in his hand. “You can stay, but you can’t meet the new demon, he’s not very nice like 할아버지[5] is.”
“You do know you’re talking about Dark, right?” Silver asked.
“Yeah, well, he’s nice to Lunky,” King smiled, before his level leveled onto a more neutral frown as he cracked open the tome. “Alright so on Illinois’s first trips to Egypt he found this book in the bowels of some library.”
“Does it talk about Legates?” Jackie asked, walking over and getting a low warning hiss from Lunky for approaching the spawnling’s father without Lunky’s permission.
“Hey, it’s okay,” King told his child, before looking at the book. “So this book doesn’t directly talk about Legates but it kickstarted this little bout of research he and I did. What this book details is some spawnling that was formed by a lightning strike and began conquering the area. The Old Man’s apparently met this guy too, he likes building stuff apparently.”
“They play poker on the weekends or somethin’[6]?” Jackie tried to joke.
“No, they haven’t spoken in almost 200 years,” King dismissed. “More importantly this research Ills and I did helped us learn a lot about demons. Mainly that demons aren’t categorized by aura or region of the world, but based on how they collect aura. If they can survive being struck by lightning without discorporating, control lightning, or technology; then they’re glitches. If they feed primarily off the emotional state of other humans or demons, then they’re empaths. If they collect aura by manipulating people and making deals: that means they’re deal makers. If they’re attention whores that collect aura from large groups, they’re showmen.”
“Wait, glitches have an affinity fer[7] lightnin’[8]?” Jackie asked. “Since when? Anti doesn’t go outside in lightnin’[8] storms.”
“Well, that doesn’t surprise me,” King replied. “Honestly there should be a hell of a lot more glitches with an outright phobia of lightning. Before technology really took off the only way to get a glitch was if one split off from another demon, like what happened with Lunky, or something like lightning strikes them. I’m pretty sure Anti was human once and he’s old enough that he was probably killed by lightning.”
“What?” Jackie shouted.
“Yep,” King popped the end of the world. “Which is why glitches were seen as weaker or rare for centuries, it was hard for them to get a lot of power until the industrial revolution hit. But while we were deep diving in some of the books we found, we found some myths and legends that talked about another type of demon. It was like a hybrid of other demon types. Like a jack-of-all-trades, master of none, kind of demon.”
“So if demons are separated by how they collect aura,” Silver commented. “How do these . . . legates? I assume these types are legates, right? How do they collect aura?”
“Yes,” King confirmed hesitantly, “and that’s the problem. Legates are like an octopus. Eight legs, but one octopus. Something in the process of creating a legate, regardless of what it would have become, doesn’t split properly. If the legate was already a proper demon it would just make a spawnling and both the demon and the spawnling would be fine. And 99.99999% of the time the person just dies instead of making a legate. But it’s that incredibly slim chance where the soul is resilient enough that the energy can’t fully make a proper demon. That energy has to go somewhere so it makes a legate and this pseudo-demon, for lack of a better term, is dangerous because the demon itself can’t collect aura, but it’s legs can.”
“Is that where the Sides come in?” Joan asked.
“Exactly,” King gestured with his arms. “It explains why there are so many. Because when a demon makes a spawnling, multiple spawnlings mean a lot of energy was split off but when a human is turned into a demon there’s barely enough energy to make one demon, let alone seven. So the legate can’t absorb aura properly on its own, making it crazy and hungry because it can’t feed like it’s supposed to. It’s like being lactose intolerant but only being able to eat and drink dairy products. But the arms or extensions of a legate are fully capable of getting aura and bringing it back to the legate in a way it can feed from. The better control a legate has over its arms, the better it can feed. So it quickly gains complete dominion over the arms and turns them into mindless thralls.”
“But all the Sides have some of the most bombastic personalities I’ve ever seen,” Silver reminded, as Nate hummed in agreement, Mare was talking to him in his head.
“Precisely,” King smiled. “They’re not thralls, so that means they’re not giving their legate aura. So the legate is either dead or is kept somewhere that it can’t collect aura and turn the Sides into thralls. If we can verify the legate is actually dead or kill it, then the Sides keep their individuality.”
“So how do we do that?” Nate spoke up. “Especially without hurting the Sides in the process?”
King thought on that for a second. “Well when they get back we should come clean and just talk about the whole thing and maybe they know something they haven’t told us.”
“Okay, what if they don’t?” Mare asked.
“Well they’re non-violent for the most part, so if we leave them be they’re not going to torch the city down,” King shrugged, he tucked the tome into his cape. “Unless there’s something you guys haven’t told me. How did Thomas die exactly? Knowing what all the Sides have in common will tell us a lot about the legate we’re looking for.”
Nate gestured to Joan, who quickly began explaining, “So I found this old camera at an estate sale and brought it to some party. I was messing around with it, dropped it, and Thomas caught it. When that happened, he split apart and that was it, it went that fast.”
“You’re sure nothing happened in-between that time?” King asked.
“Yeah,” Joan answered, hesitant but sure.
“We still have that soul splitter,” Nate supplied helpfully. “We’re pretty sure it used to be Wil’s.”
“What?” King spat.
“Yeah, I’ll go get it,” Nate offered and ran out of the room to go fetch the camera. King at the same time sent Lunky back to Google. The spawnling complained but eventually the two heroes came back with their little missions completed.
“Okay, Logan really likes it for some reason,” Nate informed King when they were both back. By the look on King’s face the young man was thinking along the same lines. “Deceit hates the thing apparently, but none of the others have more than a passing tolerance towards it.”
King picked up the camera and groaned at the pink mustache stained into the side. “Of course it’s Dad’s. His magic always did weird things to stuff to begin with.”
The young man began trying to send his aura at it, to get it to react, but he was met with nothing.
“Okay, Dad, what weird thing did you do to make this?” King grumbled in frustration.
“That’s all I could ever get it to do,” Nate lamented. “I’ve tried popping the film cartridge, but it’s stuck. I think it’s just old.”
Humming a bit in affirmation, King turned it over a bit and set it on the closest table, his fingers drummed pensively. “Okay, it’s Dad’s, there’s gotta be some trick.”
King took out one of the medallion necklaces Dark had made for Lunky and hung it right over the camera.
Still nothing.
Frowning, King channeled his aura through the camera and finally a reaction took place. A mix of King and Dark’s aura in proximity to the remnants of Wil’s that stubbornly held the camera together brought forth another aura. It was distinct and visible: a shimmering, rainbow aura. It lasted for a second but it was there.
In alarm, King flew back from the camera, pulling the necklace away. In an instant the aura disappeared.
King approached and experimentally held just the necklace above before taking it away again and trying to search for an aura trail.
“Oh, you sly bastard!” King realized as he pulled out the very dagger that had caused part of his soul to split off and create Lunky. He’d kept it because he was certainly not letting the Jims get their hands on the knife again. “I fucking found you!”
King tried to drive the soul splitter into the camera and some protective spell fanned out to break the soul splitter and bruised King’s hand.
At first King thought his hand had been broken or fractured, but as the pain subdued to a dull, aching throb, he began trying to move it and realized that at worst it had bruised his bone.
“Fucking shit!” King hissed as Silver ran over to him. The force of the barrier spell and King’s attempted blow had caused the table to break and the camera to fall to the ground, undamaged by the fall.
Nanites surged out of some unseen compartment in the camera and created a projection disk. There was a whirl and a hum, before a holographic symbol hovering in the air. It was a blackened symbol of three heads and dozens of arms surrounding it, the only words there were: “Hecatoncheires Projects Presents:”
The symbol lasted for a second before the projection showed an image of future Logan, Spade, standing in front of them.
Spade’s projection smiled at them and he took a deep breath before he greeted them, “Heroes.”

Six, just over half.
How many episodes have a cast that is less than 20% female?
None.

How many male characters (with names and lines) are there?
Twenty. Thirteen who appear in more than one episode, nine who appear in at least half the episodes, and one who appears in every episode.
Positive Content Status:
Standard for this show, i.e. decidedly higher quality than most of what’s on tv, with dynamic variety in powerful female characters, emotionally mature and expressive male characters, and a loving, up-front embrace of queer sexuality. Nothing stands out as especially wonderful about it all this season, but it’s an average mark against which other shows regularly pale (average rating of 3).
General Season Quality:
Fantastic! Easily their most intellectually heady concept thus far in the series, and they do some wonderful crazy things with it.
MORE INFO (and potential spoilers) under the cut:
Tumblr media
Their best male:female ratio yet!  The majority of episodes at/around gender balanced, zero of them wildly male-dominated! Almost a complete Bechdel pass, which isn’t much of a thing to crow about, but at least they tended to pass significantly with the passes they had, rather than a roster of single-line-single-pass episodes. And they didn’t score a raised content rating out of the bunch, but content ratings are variable based on series standards, to an extent: if the representation in this season were mirrored in, say, a Stargate season, I’d be gushing about what a fantastic turn of events that was. I have sometimes wondered if I was too generous with Teen Wolf’s scores in the past, but compared to pretty much everything else I’ve reviewed? Nah, it’s deservedly up the top of the heap. It has set a lovely high standard for itself, and failing to outstrip that standard still leaves it above and beyond most every other standard around, so. It’s a very good problem to have. It’s the right kind of problem.
Tumblr media
That happy ratio is owed in part to the challenge which informed the entire season: how to keep the show alive without Dylan O’Brien as a regular? This isn’t the first show I’ve reviewed that has juggled the loss or limited availability of a primary actor, but it is easily the one that has done so with the greatest success. The X Files strangled itself in its original run by pretending that Mulder was still the centre of its universe even in his absence, refusing to commit to plot advancement with its new characters and format. The Librarians has made explaining away Flynn’s latest departure into the tool that shapes each season’s arc, and it’s wearing very thin (and has at this point possibly contributed to the show’s cancellation). Stargate SG1 made more structurally sound decisions with the dilemma that initially worked, but they turned into awkward as Hell character moves later down the track (and I will be SALTY FOREVERRR!!!). Teen Wolf wisely did not introduce a new replacement character to misuse and be uncomfortable with and ditch as soon as possible, and while it does make Stiles’ absence a centrepiece and driving force of the season, it does so without allowing that to choke off personal narratives or other plot threads for the characters who remain. The characters all continue to function, and we see the empty space that Stiles has left in their lives and how that affects them, but there’s no implication that they or the show cannot function without him, and that’s a compliment to Stiles, not an insult. It’s not that he’s the glue that holds the whole thing together, but he is irreplaceable, in the cast and in the lives of his friends, and this season is a celebration of him at the same time as being a soft introduction to the way that the show can keep moving forward without him in the future. The question everyone would have been asking before this season was ‘can Teen Wolf still work successfully without its secondary character, fan-favourite, and arguably best actor?’, and obviously I think they answered that with a resounding but respectful ‘YES’.
Tumblr media
The absence of Stiles also allows a decisively larger space for the rest of the characters to move in, since he was never a character to be shuttled off and underused of a season - to the extent that he has been the centrepiece of another past season already. I do wish that Lydia stepping up to fill that space was less anchored around her blossoming romance with Stiles, and not only because - as established in the individual episode posts - I feel like they tried too hard and overplayed the OTP card, and I didn’t really buy that the bond was as profound as they wanted us to believe. Regardless of where you stand on the relationship itself, the reality was that Lydia had an awful lot of screen time that was not about her, and obviously this blog is not here for female characters having their personal stories co-opted by dudes. Arguably, the same fate would have befallen any character who was used as the primary conduit for the Stiles side of the storyline, but I’d argue back that if it had been Scott, as the lead character on the show he would be able to balance that weight (plus his established long-term relationship with Stiles would make it easier since it’s already part of the backbone of the series, whereas the official blossoming of a relationship with Lydia and Stiles is a new development being added on top of all the pre-existing emotions at play). The Sheriff, likewise, could take the weight of Stiles’ absentee narrative without having his character drowned out by it, because Stiles is his son and he has always played a supporting role for Stiles, for that obvious reason. The loss of Stiles is successfully used as a lens through which to further explore the Sheriff as an individual here, and it’s one of the best parts of the story. Lydia, on the other hand, as her own character who does not exist within the narrative because of her relationship with anyone else, was swamped by the Stiles arc and allowed no real exploration of her own; the closest she got to her own stuff was the prospect of being the sole survivor of Beacon Hills, and that was a nonstarter. As such, while I mostly applaud the way Stiles’ absence was handled, I cannot ultimately condone what it did to Lydia, and I can’t help but wonder how that dominance of her arc could have been softened and improved by removing the forced romantic angle. I’m reminded of how they fumbled the introduction of Malia around getting her with Stiles, and the awkward attempt to set Stiles up with Cora Hale before that, and the messy Stiles/Erica dynamic before that. I think this show just didn’t know how to give Stiles a love interest in an organic story manner, and the unfortunate side effect each time has been the detriment of the female characters who are assigned to him, which makes Stiles’ love life one of the least lovely representational aspects of this entire series. Eek.
Tumblr media
The good news is, my gripe with the way they handled Lydia is my only serious beef with an otherwise stellar season; it had other imperfections, certainly, and I wouldn’t call it their best, though it had moments when it looked that way. I coulda done without Theo, to be honest, and I’m not sure he added anything necessary to the season. Malia was kinda under-played, though I don’t mind too much because she was still a strong presence, her personal plot stuff was subtle and that’s not a bad thing. Hayden was more underplayed, and that’s less ok because she’s newer and not as clear a character as Malia, plus I feel like Theo in the last couple of episodes could have been traded out for Hayden and it wouldn’t mess up anything (valuable story time taken up by Theo scenes in general is something worth frowning about). They didn’t really explain why Douglas could control Parrish, which left our poor Dreamboat as a pawn for most of the season for no apparent reason beyond it being narratively convenient. Also they had some weirdly-spent time in the late-mid episodes of the season (starting from the same episode Theo returned...) that could have been better paced and structured to make the finale even stronger. I could sit here and complain and nitpick, but these are ultimately fairly minor quibbles (many of which can be narrowed down to one central culprit: Theo) that prevent this from being a series-best season in my eyes, though it’s still up there as a top contender and when the season was on point, it looked unstoppable. They still successfully turned in some excellent television despite the loss of one of the show’s best assets, and they still told a story about metaphysical existence that was coherent and consistent and never talked down to its audience, and that’s really something to be happy about. They still gave us a Nazi Alpha werewolf in a subplot that was as outrageous as it was restrained, plus they made good use of Corey, whose presence I was not sure would work out in the long run for the show. I will always be available to rail against unnecessary romances and unnecessary Theos, but that doesn’t change the fact that this show remains a delight and a blessing, not only in terms of the positive representation it offers this blog but also for the wild, bombastic, unashamed imagination it offers us all.

Universe Falls Preview
Here, have some fuckin cuteness. That’s basically what a lot of this chapter is gonna be is cuteness. You know, until we reach the parts with the pixelated yandere, then we hit horrorville but for now, fluff:
“Ok, everyone! We gotta scoot in closer to make this one work!” Steven said, pulling in tighter to Connie as Dipper and Mabel did the same. The kids had spent most of their morning in a rather lighthearted selfie-taking session, mostly since there wasn’t really too much else to do and also because it was a generally relaxing pastime. After the hectic, daunting past few weeks they had had, all four of them had taken to reveling in every laid back, lighthearted moment they could manage together, knowing better than to ever take advantage of them again after how close they had all gotten to losing such peaceful times on a number of occasions.
“Alright, I think we’re ready,” Connie grinned as all the others did the same in preparation of the photo as she held her phone out further. “Say cheese!”
“Cheese!” all four of them proclaimed in bright unison as Connie snapped the picture, only for her to notice something was off about it as soon as she got a look at it.
“Aw, Steven! You blinked!” she scolded playfully, giving him a light shove.
“Whoops! Sorry…” the young Gem blushed, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Hey, we can always take another one!” Mabel suggested blithely, running over to the other side of the clearing. “Hows about we try one with the view of the temple behind us? It’ll be so pretty!”
“Are you sure we don’t already have enough selfies already?” Dipper asked with an amused chuckle as they all went over to join Mabel. “I’m pretty sure Connie’s phone has gotta be running out of storage space by now.”
“Mm, actually, I think we should be good for a few more,” Connie noted, checking her phone once more.
“And besides, a group of friends can never have enough selfies!” Steven quipped cheerfully. “Huh, you know, those are some pretty good words to live by. I should really write that down...”
“Save it for later, Universe!” Mabel jokingly ordered as the kids all clustered together again with the temple in view behind them. “We got more selfies to take! Now, again, this time with feeling: cheese!”
The others all repeated this, bearing their biggest smiles as Connie attempted to take the photo, though it was a bit challenging seeing as how the screen and the camera button were both facing away from her, despite her continuously tapping at where she thought it would be.
“Did it take it?” Steven asked in a mumble, still holding his wide grin as he waited for the snap.
“I don’t know…” Connie replied, also maintain her smile as she continued her attempts at hitting the button.
“Maybe try pressing it again?” Dipper suggested, getting somewhat impatient with holding up his own smile, even though it was clear Mabel was ready to keep hers as long as she had to.
“I’ve been pressing it,” Connie assured, her grin starting to falter a bit as the photo still failed to take.
“You guys look cute.”
Steven gasped upon hearing this casual interruption to their selfie session, his photo-ready grin turning into a genuine one as he glanced across the yard at the familiar mailman who had just arrived at the shack. “Jamie!” the young Gem exclaimed excitedly as he ran over to greet him. While Connie, Dipper, and Mabel didn’t really know this young mailman, they followed suit, though not as bombastically as Steven did.
“What’s up, Steven?” Jamie asked coolly, his large sunglasses giving him an even more laid back look. “Long time, no see.”
“Ohhhhh myyyyy gosssshhh!” Steven shouted enthusiastically as he rushed to give Jamie a high five. “It really has been so long since I’ve seen you around here, Jamie! Oh, by the way, these are my friends: Connie, Dipper, and Mabel! Guys, this is Jamie: the mailman!”
“Greetings, Connie, Dipper, Mabel,” Jamie said to the kids with an amicable grin.
“Hey, how’s it going?” Dipper greeted affably.
“Nice to meet you, Jamie,” Connie nodded politely.
“I love your sunglasses!” Mabel quipped, beaming.
“Heh, thanks,” Jamie smirked as he adjusted said shades.
“So, where have you been all this time, Jamie?” Steven asked curiously. “I don’t think I’ve seen you around here since the beginning of the summer!”
“Oh, you know, I’ve been spending some time where all the big movies are made…” Jamie began, his smile turning daring and dramatic. “Just a little place called… Kansas!”
“Kansas?” Dipper asked, confused. “Uh… don’t you mean Hollywood?”
“Oh, wow! Kansas!” Mabel interrupted, thoroughly impressed. “I heard that place is super glamourous! Did you meet any big-name movie stars while you were there?”
“But of course,” Jamie assured, crossing his arms.
“Like…?” Steven pursued eagerly.
“Like…. Uh… well… a bunch! I-its pretty hard to keep track of particular names when you’re rubbing elbows with the rich and famous, you know. But I did receive plenty of valuable inspiration while I was there.”
“Oh, are you an aspiring thespian?” Connie asked.
“Why, yes!” Jamie proclaimed with a bold, performer’s bow. “Yes, I am.”
“Wow! I didn’t know you wanted to become an actor!” Steven noted in amazement.
“That’s because-” Jamie suddenly paused, pulling off a dramatic spin as he clenched his fist passionately. “I’m very good at acting.”
The kids all got a good laugh out of this brief preformance, all four of them applauding it as Jamie bowed once again. “So that must be why you’re wearing those super cool sunglasses in the first place, huh?” Mabel asked, pointing to shade shades that read “movie star” across the top of them. “Cause you’re on the fast track to becoming a movie star yourself?”
“Uh, well, no…” Jamie blushed awkwardly, lowering his shades a bit. “I just bought these at a souvenir shop. I missed being a regular old mailman, so I just came back. And, uh, both you and Mr. Pines got a lot of mail while I was gone, Steven…” The mailman dropped the heavy sack he’d been toting, pulling it open to reveal an abundance of packages and letters that were long past late.
“Looks like the postal service has really been slacking off,” Connie noted, bewildered by all the undelivered mail.
“Jamie’s the only mailman who comes all the way out here to the shack and the temple,” Steven explained.
“Oh so that explains why Grunkle Stan’s been so upbeat lately!” Mabel exclaimed in realization. “It’s cause he hasn’t gotten any bills since the beginning of the summer!”
“Well, if that’s the case, then he’s in for a pretty major disappointment…” Dipper mused, glancing at the pile of overdue invoices intended for Stan lying on the ground.
“I’m also gonna need a lot of signatures as well,” Jamie said as he held his sign pad out to Steven.
The young Gem smiled, seemingly cracking his knuckles in preparation only for them to make no apparent sound at all. “Your knuckles are so quiet…” Connie said, impressed.
“My hands are polite,” Steven replied with a proud smile. Before he could sign however, the kids were caught off guard by a sudden rustling in the nearby trees, a familiar figure emerging from them a moment later.
“Oh! Hi, Garnet!” Mabel greeted the Gem leader first, though the other kids soon followed suit as she began to approach them.
“Who’s Garneeee-” Jamie trailed off, his jaw and his sunglasses dropping in awe as he glanced up and got his first glimpse of the Gem leader. Her form was stunning as she smoothly sauntered forward, the droplets of water drenching her sparkling in the midmorning sun. Her shades and neutral expression gave her an air of alluring mystery, one that Jamie couldn’t help but be immediately compelled by.
Her confidence only continued as she reached the group, placing a hand on her hip as she looked down to the group of kids with a casual greeting. “Howdy.”
“Hey, Garnet, whatcha up to?” Steven asked. “And why are you all wet?”
“I was just at the bottom of the lake, checking for signs of Lapis and Jasper,” Garnet reported. “Or at least as close to the bottom as I could get to…”
“Wait, what?” Dipper cut in, immediately interested in this development, seeing as how this was apparently the first time any of the Gems had done anything about the Malachite situation at all. “Did… did you see them?”
Garnet let out a soft sigh, shaking her head with apt sympathy. “No. It seems as though Malachite has trapped herself underneath a thick layer of ice just a few hundred feet down, one that spreads across the entire lake bed. I tried my best to penetrate it, but I had no luck. I’m sorry, Dipper.”
The most Dipper could do upon receiving such disparaging news was let out a small sigh of disappointment as he hung his head. He supposed it did make sense that Lapis would make herself and Jasper even more inaccessible than they already were, for the sake of protecting them all from the orange Gem’s fury. But, that didn’t change the fact that Dipper still wanted to help Lapis, just as much as ever, especially after how his last true lead has been so brutally destroyed. And though such a feat seemed even more out of reach with what Garnet had just told him, Mabel subtly reminded him that they’d get there someday by simply placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder, one that this time, he didn’t push away.
“W-wow…” Jamie spoke up softly, looking to Garnet in complete amazement. “How are you able to swim to the bottom of the lake?”
“It was easy,” Garnet shrugged, adjusting her shades. “I’m a really good swimmer.” Jamie’s jaw simply fell even more upon hearing this, his eyes widening as he noticed the Gem leader’s visor seemingly change colors from pink to blue, as if by magic. Still, Garnet didn’t seem to notice how awestruck the mailman was with her as she readjusted her posture. “Excuse me,” she said before swinging her arms out gracefully, all of the lake water flying off of her form in a singular flash of light.
An astonished gasp finally escaped Jamie at this incredible sight, his heart pounding as he continued staring at the Gem leader and nothing else. Even if Garnet herself didn’t really pay the mailman’s clear awe any mind, the kids started to take notice of it, prompting them to exchange something of a confused glance. In fact, his wonderstruck gaze only continued after the Gem leader as she bid them all farewell and began making her way up to the temple, with Jamie watching her almost longingly until she had completely vanished from sight.

Found and Lost, Ch. IV
Chapter IV of "Found and Lost," an Essence of Ragnarok story. (Formerly one-third of Chapter III)
Word count: 3,809 – Character count: 21,055 Originally written: March 19th, 2017 Split and revised: September 8th, 2017 Further revised: December 14th, 2018
With low hopes and even less sleep, a dissevel Joseph attends his friend's court case.
[ ↶ Prev. Story | ← Prev. Chapter | Next Chapter → | Next Story ↷ ]
Within a darkened movie theater, Joseph sat beside his friend, Jessica.  While the latter seemed highly entertained by the movie – a sci-fi thriller about a group of unlikely heroes trying to stop rogue nanomachines from taking over the world – the former just couldn’t find the same level of interest.  He’d hoped that the night out would clear his mind and help distract him from his worries… but, no matter how loud the actors on the screen shouted… no matter how grand the explosions and other special effects were… and, no matter how frequently Jessica reacted to what was going on in front of them… he just could not let the events of that day go.  And, that attitude continued on well past the movie and into their next location, a fast food restaurant.
“So… ya gonna tell me what’s wrong ‘r do I gotta wrassle th’ info outta ya?”
The male fox jolted in his seat before looking up.  His companion was giving him a smirk as she sat across from him, at their booth.     “Don’t think I ain’t noticed, kiddo!” she commented.  “I just wanted t’ see if you’d open up ’fore I said anythin’.  Don’t guess that’ll happen anytime soon.”     She wasn’t wrong.  He’d been extremely hesitant to let her know something was going on… and, even as he watched her bring her elbows to rest on the table, place her head on her overlapping hands, and stare at him with half-closed eyes… he still didn’t feel compelled to tell his tale.  It wasn’t her problem, after all.
“So, what happened?” she asked, still wearing her smirk.  “One’a yer harem girls d’cide t’ jump ship, on ya?”     The bat paused, giving a blink… then, she started laughing!     “‘Jump ship!’” she repeated.  “That’s funny!  ‘cause, ya know… ships an’… ah…”     When she noticed her fox companion wasn’t laughing, though…     “Okay, but, fer real… what happened?  Why so detached ‘n stuff?”     Joseph remained hesitant to answer the question.  His problem wasn’t meant to be hers… and, he knew that if she thought, even for a moment, that there was anything she could do to help… she would make it her problem.     “It’s a long story,” was what he offered as an answer, hoping she’d lose interest.     “S’okay,” was Jessica’s reply as she leaned inward.  “We got all night, sweets.”     He was starting to get the impression that she wasn’t just going to let the subject drop…     “Tell ‘Momma J’ what’s on ya mind!” she encouraged.     The fox’s brow furrowed, at that.  She was such an odd lady, sometimes…
“Jessie, promise me something.”     The bat perked, her eyes opening wide in attention.  “Yea’?”     “What I’m about to tell you stays between us.  Okay?”     “Yea’-yea’, sure-sure!” was her reply.  When she noticed the serious look her companion was giving, however, she quickly decided to revise that statement.     “You have my word that I ain’t gonna tell no one ‘bout whatever-it-is, Josey.  Promise.”     The fox gave a murmur… then, he sighed.  And, finally… he began to explain why he’d been so disinterested in the events of the night.
“So, lemme get this straight…”     Jessica sat back on her side of the booth, scratching her head and looking perplexed.     “Hope – not some girl wid th’ same name, but our Hope – lost her everything ‘cause her creator came outta th’ woodwork?  But… it turns out he made her without th’ Achromium region’s knowledge, so he’s gonna be put on trial?  But… she’s in lockup at th’ M.C.P.D. as evidence fer th’ case?  Even though she’s got no recollection that she was ever his property?”     “That’s about right, yeah,” Joseph confirmed.     “Babe, that’s a whole lotta confusin’,” she flatly stated.  “Like, if she ain’t got no mem’ry’a what she once was ‘n there’s no maker’s marks ‘n all that, why would they even put her in storage?  She could’a literally been made by anyone!”     “I’m pretty sure Dr. Lewis has some sort of proof that shows he was the one who made her.  He had to have shown Miss Lyra something, in order to get her on his side…”     “Well, sure, but, like… hm…”  The bat paused for a moment.  “I wonder if she’s gonna be used as physical evidence… or, as a practical demonstration’a proof’a ownership?”     Joseph gave a blink.  “What?”     “Think ‘bout it, Josey,” she said as she gestured to him.  “Let’s say she gets activated, in th’ courtroom.  Let’s say he uses that override code.  Let’s say someone else tries it ‘n it don’t work ‘cause it’s tied t’ his vocal pattern?  That’d be pretty damnin’ evidence, right there…”     The fox murmured, again, showing a frown.     “Though, now that I think about it… it might only prove ownership.  I mean, ya can set an android up t’ where it only pays attention t’ certain commands ‘r certain people, ‘n whatnot.  But… I guess it really doesn’t matter who made her, outside’a punishin’ th’ creator fer not doin’ it legit-like.”     There was a brief silence between the two, each taking into consideration what was just said before continuing.
“All I know for sure,” Joseph began, again, “is that Dr. Lewis is going on-trial sometime before the end of the week… and, that Hope is being used as evidence – at least as far as Miss Lyra knows.  What I don’t know is what the trial is going to determine.”     “Wuzzat?”     “Well…” the fox started after eating a fry, “if he’s already admitted he’s a criminal… why would he need a trial?”     “Who knows…”  Jessica gave a shrug.  “Th’ legal system ‘n this region is weird.”     “The legal system in most regions is weird.”     “True dat!” she laughed before sipping on her soda.  “In any case, I’mma just say… try not th’ fret, too much, ‘til th’ trial date comes, a’right?  Hope is safe ‘nuff in storage ‘n Doc Lewis can’t do nothin’ t’ get at her from ‘is cell.  Thinkin’ ‘bout what ‘might be’ ‘r ‘could happen’ ain’t gonna do nothin’ but make ya shed ya fur so jus’… ya know… wait it out.  I can even help ya stay distracted if ya want!”     “Well… you are pretty distracting, Jessie…” the fox replied with a small grin.     “It’s th’ heterochromia iridum, baby,” was her reply.  “Can’t take yer eyes off mine!”     “I was more thinking it was your bombastic personality… but, now that you mention it…”     The two shared a grin as they caught each other’s eyes.  After a moment of playful staring, the two returned to their meal and, a short while later, made their way outside.
“So, about that offer…” Jessie said as she walked arm-in-arm with Joseph through a park in downtown Masamune City.     “What offer?” was his reply.  He felt her squeeze his arm before replying.     “Need a distraction?”     “I think you’re already being one…” the fox said with a smirk.     “Oh?  Good!” she said with a laugh.  “But, no, what I’m askin’ is–”     “I think I know what you’re asking, Jessie…” he interrupted, a slight blush showing under his fur.  “I’d never be one to turn down your company.  Not since… you know…  But…”     Joseph gave a perk as the bat kissed his warming cheek.     “Then, that’s all I’ll be fer ya, t’night.”     “I mean, don’t get me wrong…” he started to explain.  “Under other circumstances…”     “Sometimes, all’s we need is a friend who’ll be there, fer us.  Ya know?  ‘n I won’t even charge ya fer my time ‘r nothin’,” she teased, ruffling his bangs.     He paused… then gave a soft chuckle.     “Thanks, Jess.”
The remainder of their walk through the park was a quiet one.  There was a lack of people out, at that time of night, which made for a pretty peaceful journey.  As the two walked together, Jessica continued to hang on to his arm.  By the time the two had finished their journey through the lightly-wooded public place, however, the bat was ready to head to his place… but, something stopped her.  Specifically… him.     “Um… Josey?” she said, giving him a confused look.  “This whole arm-in-arm thing is cozy ‘n all but, uh… yer gonna have t’ lemme go so’s I can get in yer car.”     The fox remained silent, staring off into space and keeping her arm locked between his arm and side.  It didn’t take the bat long to realize…     “Whatsamatta, Joe?”     “Can we… can we, maybe, not go home?” he quietly asked.  “Maybe, not end the night?”     “Oh, Joe…”     She sighed as she removed his arm to free her own.  Not a second later, she wrapped her arms and wings around him from behind, giving him a tight hug.     “Time ain’t gonna stop jus’ ‘cause ya ain’t sleepin’, sweetie…  Whether we stay in town ‘r go back t’ yer place, it’s gonna keep movin’ on.  But, fer what it’s worth?”     The fox gave a light shiver as he felt her nose run along his cheek.     “Momma J’ll be there wi’cha… fer as long as ya need ‘er…”
After a moment, the bat spun around in front of the fox, taking his right hand in her left.     “C’mon, let’s get you home so’s we can get all cozy ‘n snuggle!  You’d like that, right?”     “W… well, I mean–”     “‘course ya would!  I am pretty cuddly, after all!”     Joseph gave a chuckle… and, he nodded.  “You sure are, Jess…”     “So?  Let’s go home ‘n I’ll give ya aaall th’ cuddles ya need!  ’n, believe me…”     She gave his hand a little squeeze.     “I can tell that’cha need more’n a few!”
With that, the bat led her friend away from the park and back to his car.  The two entered the vehicle with minimal delay and, soon enough, they headed back to Joseph’s house.
From that point on, Joseph’s life seemed to be a blur of fuzzy details…  He remembered visiting his friends, such as Miranda or Edgar and Evelyn… though, what he did with them seemed to fade from his mind, as the days rolled on.  He also remembered spending a lot of time with Jessie, doing things she liked as well as things he did… though, it was harder to lose track of her since she was practically living with him, in order to keep his spirits high and mind distracted.  However, as distracting as Jessie and his other friends had been… he just could not keep himself distracted enough to forget about Hope, even for a minute.
“That android is evidence,” someone told him from the other side of a phone.  “It is not to be re-activated until the day of the trial.  We’ve told you that.  Repeatedly.  Now, please, stop calling here or we’ll have this number blocked until the hearing is over!”     “Tol’ja callin’ th’ M.C.P.D. again was a bad idea, Josey.”     Joseph narrowed his eyes at the black-and-orange bat sprawled on his couch in a matching tank top and panties.  She seemed to be occupying herself by grooming her finger claws… or, maybe, her teeth…  Both, possibly?  He wasn’t sure which, since she seemed to be using one to groom the other.  Regardless, he did not take her comment kindly.
“If you’re not going to help, Jessie…”     “Look, asshole…” she shortly said, “I’ve been tryin’ t’ help fer th’ past week, but’cha ain’t havin’ it ‘cause yer so worried ‘bout yer li’l–”     She bit her tongue, then.  She almost said something she knew she’d regret…     “Fact’a th’ matter is,” she continued, “she ain’ in any danger ‘n she ain’t awake enough t’ be lonely, worried, or anythin’ else!  Not like th’ rest of us.  Not like me…”     “Well, I’m sorry that you’re feeling lonely but–”     “I’m fuckin’ worried ‘bout you, dumbass!” the bat shouted as she leaped up.  “Ya look like roadkill, ya ain’t gotten much sleep, ‘n frankly, yer obsessin’ over someone who’s jus’ fine!”     Jessie strode over to the fox, putting her hands on his shoulders and locking eyes.     “Ain’t nothin’ more to th’ story, than that…”     “I’m not going to be able to relax until she’s back in my arms…” Joseph murmured as he turned away from the bat.  “That’s the only place where I know she’ll be safe…”     “Really, now?”  Jessica narrowed her eyes.  “R’mind me’a what it was what happened at th’ precinct?  I seem t’ recall you sayin’ she actually removed herself from yer arms t’ be powered-down?”     “That was… that was different…” he quietly replied as he looked down.     “An’, really, what in th’ world do ya think you could even do?  Even if she hadn’t complied, what would’a happened?  That wolf lady would’a tossed you ‘round like a rag doll!  An’, fer what?  Th’ law’s pretty cut ’n dry on this one, Joe…”     “I don’t know… I don’t know!!”
Jessica gave a blink of her mismatched eyes as she felt herself be pushed away.  When she looked back to Joseph, she noticed he wore a hugely frustrated expression on his face and looked even more frazzled than before… almost on the verge of tears!  The bat brought her hands up to chest level and began to wring them together, looking on with concern…     “Ain’t nothin’ you can do ‘til th’ trial, Joe…  ‘n since that’s tomorrow… you should pro’ly get some sleep.  As fer me?  I… think I worn out my welcome, here…  I’ll see ya, um…”  The bat hesitated…  “I’ll just… see ya.  So, see ya.”
Joseph did nothing to stop his friend from gathering her items and hitting the road.  Even as she closed the door, all he could do was just stand there and impotently fume.  He knew the bat-girl was right… knew that there was nothing that anyone could do, until the trial… but, that did very little to stop his gut from twisting and turning or keep his mind from agonizing over potential scenarios.  Not even his subconscious mind would let him stop worrying as he slept, his brain transmitting nightmarish events and horrific outcomes, that night…  He was almost thankful he’d awoken, the following morning… until he remembered what he’d had to do, later that day.
After a light breakfast to try and settle his stomach, the fox arrived at the Masamune City courthouse.  Once he was inside, a glance around the gallery told him that he’d arrived early; only one person seemed to be in attendance…     “Miss Lyra?” the fox called as he walked toward the familiar white wolf.     “Mr. Lithius,” was her reply as she took notice of him.     “What…” he’d started to ask before changing to a different question.  “Where’s Hope?”     “The M.C.P.D. will be delivering the A.I, as well as the charged party, within the hour.”     “W… what are you doing here, then?” he asked as he sat next to her.  “Shouldn’t you have come along, with them?”     “My job was finished the moment I’d retrieved the A.I. from your residence.  I am here purely as a curious spectator, at this time.”     “Okay, but… why are you here?”     The wolf narrowed her eyes.  “As a curious spectator, as I’d said.”     “Uh… oh…”  The fox scratched the back of his head.  “Well, you look nice.”     Lyra gave a confused look at the comment.  “I’m just wearing what I always wear.”     “Yeah, but…”  Joseph made an odd noise and looked away.  “Sorry.  I’m a little–”     “I couldn’t care less about what you’re feeling.”     He gave a blink… then, he his ears folded.  It was pretty clear Lyra wasn’t interested in his small talk… so, he decided to get up and take a seat, elsewhere, as he waited for things to start.
The minutes seemed to count down slowly as Joseph sat there in his gray suit and green tie.  There was a moment where he actually wondered why he’d bothered getting so dressed-up, in the first place… but, he ultimately decided it just felt like the thing to do.
“Joseph?”     The fox perked.  Someone had called his name… someone unexpected.     “Car… Carlos?” he asked as he looked up from his seat.     Standing not a few feet away from him was the familiar form of the dark gray wolf… and, he was wearing something Joseph had never seen him wear, before.     “N-nice suit…” Joseph said with an unconvincing smile.  “You look good.”     “You alright?” the wolf in the black dress suit asked as he sat behind the fox.  “You look like 10 miles of bad road…”     “Oh.  You… noticed that, did you?”     “Hard not to,” he replied as he reached into his back pocket.  “Want my comb?”     “No, I’m fine.  But, what are you doing here?”     “Same as you, I imagine…”     Joseph tilted his head and gave a blink of his tired eyes.  He wasn’t entirely sure what Carlos had meant by that… but, he also didn’t feel the need to ask.
“How’s Kris and the kid?” is what he ended up asking, instead.     “Kris is fine.  Iris is a little firecracker, though.”  Carlos gave a chuckle.  “I think she gets that from her mother, personally.”     “My ears are burning, beloved…”
Joseph perked at the sound of another voice.  Both he and Carlos stood and turned, finding themselves greeted by another familiar form.     “Well, speak of the Spring Maiden, herself,” the wolf said in a jesting tone.  “I was starting to wonder why you were taking so long to park.”     “I was straightening up the dashboard,” the orange-brown vixen in the purple dress suit explained with a smile before turning to the male fox.  “Greetings, Joseph.  You… do not look terribly well.  However, I can understand why… given the reason that we are here.”     “Heh, yeah…” he said with an uneasy chuckle.     “Still,” she said as the three of them sat down, “did you make any attempt to rest, prior to today?  You look as though you have not slept well in several days…”     He remained silent, at that.     “This should be an interesting trial,” Carlos randomly said as he crossed his arms.  “I wonder what they’ll do, once everything’s said and done?”     Neither Joseph nor Kris said a word in response, the former having had quite a few thoughts about that very topic, himself…     “Hope this doesn’t take long, though.  I’d rather be spending the weekend with our kid.”     “We shall see,” Kris replied as she set her handbag on the floor.
After a couple more minutes of waiting, Joseph noticed that the courtroom was becoming a little more lively.  People he didn’t recognize seemed to be coming through the swinging doors in spurts and finding their places within the gallery seats.  What appeared to be the prosecuting attorney arrived after a while more, taking his seat at the left table in front of the bench.  Shortly after, Joseph heard the nearby crowd start to murmur and had to raise his head to see what was going on… only to lower his ears and narrow his eyes at the familiar figure.     Dr. Lewis had entered in his usual vest, dress shirt, and slacks.  He still wore the bruises from taking metal bars to the face but otherwise looked clean-shaven and dressed for success.  He was also escorted into the room by a man with a briefcase.  Neither looked into the crowd as they took a seat to the front-right of the bench.
“Issat this ‘Doc Lewis’ I’ve been hearin’ ‘bout?”     The fox jolted at the intrusion of another sudden, familiar voice.  He jerked his head to the left and immediately took note of the bat-girl standing beside him in a black blazer jacket and somewhat muted, red, knee-length dress.     “Jessie?!” he sharply asked.  “What the–”     “‘cause, I wasn’t expectin’ him t’ look like that,” she continued.  “He’s kinda cute… inna ‘I drink a lot ‘n live alone’ kind’a way!  What happened to ’is face, though?”
Joseph narrowed his eyes as he watched the bat try and peer over the two rows of people in front of them, all the while wondering where in the world she’d come from and, more importantly…     “What are you doing here?”     “Whaaat?” she replied as she turned to the fox with a grin.  “Ya didn’t think I’d let my favorite punchin’ bag go through this mess by himself, did’ja?”     “Uh… well…”     “O’ course not!”  The bat gave a quiet laugh.  “No matter what happens, Jessica U. Ingmann’ll always be there, whether ya need a shoulder t’ cry on, a blanket t’ snuggle into, or just an ear t’ listen!  An’, believe-you-me, these big ol’ ears pick up quite a bit!”     Joseph gave a blank stare as Jessica wiggled her bat ears and grinned to him.  For a moment, he didn’t know what to say… but, eventually, all he could do was smile, happy to know that she was there for him, despite the unpleasantness from the day before.
    “All rise!”
Joseph, as well as the rest of those seated in the gallery, got to their feet, just as a bailiff instructed.     “The honorable Judge Zachary Pascal is now presiding over the case of the Artificial Intelligence Committee of Achromium vs. Xander James Lewis.”     The fox watched as another figure walked in from a side door.  The man coming into view was wearing a typical black judge robe… but, he had long, silvery hair, which he kept tied back in a ponytail, and fur which was silver-gray in coloration.  Some of the longer fur around his muzzle had been styled into a thick, pointy moustache, Joseph noted.  A second look also revealed him to be a fox, not unlike himself, judging by the tail… though likely of a different sub-classification, given his large ears and tiny nose.
“You may be seated,” the judge said.  Everyone in the courtroom sat back down, then.     “Now, Mr. Lewis…” he said as he took a moment to look at his paperwork, “you have been charged with the crime of creating a free-willed artificial intelligence program without the knowledge or consent of the A.I.C.A.  How do you plead?”     “Your honor, my client pleads guilty to the charges, plain and simple,” Dr. Lewis’ attorney, a taller human with black hair, replied.     “I see.”  The judge straightened his papers for a moment before setting them back down.  “You do understand that, under the laws of the A.I.C.A and in accordance with Masamune City, by pleading guilty, you will spend up to three years in federal prison as well have to pay a fine of up to 500,000 Rai, correct?”     “Both my client and I understand the penalties involved in what he has done, your honor.  My client’s sole concern is the reclamation of his A.I. program and android body, which is the reason he came forward, in the first place.”     “Very well.  Bailiff, please bring in the android to the stand.”
The bailiff gave a nod and left the room.  Joseph had to resist his urge to stand as he returned a moment later, escorting yet another familiar form…
    “Hope…”

Family:
Ben Tennyson (Father/Jay has always looked up to his father, striving to be a hero like.
Julie Yamamoto (Mother/Absolutely adores his mother and vice versa. Since Ben is often away, Jay has picked up a lot of Julie's habits and behaviour, even hobbies, like tennis. He's always eager to help her around and the house and spending quality mother and son time. He's very thankful his mother raised him to be patient, kind and polite, a big part of his personality.)
Ship (Pet - Galvanic Metamorph/He's always loved the pet blob of the family. When he was born, Ship was very excited about Jay's presence, doing whatever he could to make the baby boy laugh. It's been the same, even as Jay grew up. The happy blob will always comfort the boy, especially through his anxiety attacks or self-doubt moments.)
Muse (Pet - Null Void Guardian/Muse wasn't the kind of pet Jay thought he'd get, but he loves her anyway. Having saved her during a mission in the null void, the creature became rather attached to him as they don't normally have positive interaction with other species, even their caretakers. She loves cuddles and having Jay's attention, but can be very protective if anyone dares to hurt her human.)
Tundra, Orion, Vale, Neva, North, Crystal, Alaska, Micha, Storm, Gray, Raine, Arlo, Zodiac and Lux (Half-Siblings/Jay is very close to his fourteen Necrofriggians siblings, despite the species differences.
Gwen Tennyson (First cousin once removed/'Aunt'/Much like Ben, he looks up to his aunt, always eager to hear stories she shares with her father and Kevin.
Kevin Levin (first cousin once removed in-law/'Uncle'/Somehow, Kevin was often the one that both Jay and Thea were dumped on to babysit. He would complain, but he really did adore the pair, even recording some of their younger interactions and adventure, which were both hilarious and adorable. Jay likes to show his uncle love when he can, as he knows very well how rough Kevin's background is.)
Cynthia Levin (Second Cousins/The two basically act like siblings, teasing one another, hanging out often and venting to each other when they need it.
Ken Tennyson (First cousin once removed/'Uncle'/While he enjoys his life with space and aliens, he does appreciate having a family member who is very down to earth. Ken is a very supportive and wise uncle, often knowing just what to say or do to cheer Jay up.)
Carl Tennyson (Grandfather/Carl, of course, loves his grandson, happy to babysit him and have him over.
Sandra Tennyson (Grandmother/Sandra has always doted on her grandbaby since he was born. Always jumping to babysit, playing with him and proudly shows him off to her friends. She is also the one who inspired his photography hobby.)
Mr Yamamoto (Grandfather/Despite Julie's father's issues towards Ben, he's always been gentle and kind towards Jay, often being the one to remind him of the beauty of earth.)
Verdona (Great Grandmother/Verdona and Jay have a friendly relationship, often openly showing affection through hugs or chatting away. While it does somewhat hurt, he doesn't resent her for mostly coming around for Gwen and Thea, because of their Anodite sides. Since he can change into different aliens, he understands very well that every alien functions different, so he can't fault her in her behaviour, so he'll take what he can get.)
Maxwell Tennyson (Great Grandfather/A legend in Jay's eyes, being who his middle name is from.
Frank Tennyson (Great Uncle/He enjoys the boy's soft presents and can always ask Jay for help here and there.)
Natalie Tennyson (Great Aunt/Natalie likes having Jay around, as he's always eager to help with housework. She does love her granddaughter, but having a quieter child around is sometimes more preferred.)
Friends:
Vanessa Morningstar (The two have a sweet relationship, despite Thea’s rivalry with her and Vanessa’s parents. They treat each other with respect and trust, and for Vanessa, this is something not common to her. He's always ready to listen to her and doesn't believe she is destined to be a villain, even with her heritage. There have also been noticeable sparks between the two, but with all that goes on, it's hard to make something of it.)
Malax Shard (Friend/A common friend and partner in Plumber training.
Feike (Friend/He started out with issues towards Feike, mostly because of his flirting towards Thea. But, over time, Jay has started to see more to him. It's clear to him Feike isn't exactly happy where he is and feels trapped, being abused and manipulated by his boss, Sciros. He's tried reaching out to him, but the other teen likes to brush it off and tells him not to get involved.)
Renata (Friend/Because of Reiny and Ben's friendship, there had been some playdates set up between the two when they were young. Despite how hard it is to communicate with Renata, Jay has come to understand how to talk to her, thanks to these playdates. He'll often go to her for space politic problems, given her status and training. Even though she doesn't show much emotions, she can show a protective side around him.)
Azmuth (Friend/Azmuth is normally the one to take a look at his biology and powers if needed. Ben has also dropped Jay off for rare babysitting, Azmuth can only be so thankful Jay will listen to him and be quiet when told. He's always found it amusing how gentle Jay is compared to his father. He's also to happily talk about embarrassing moments about Ben to the boy.)
Etherea’Liss (Friend/Their first meeting had been a little iffy, as Jay had met Zs’Skayr a few months before meeting her.
Professor Alate (Enemy/Honestly, this man creeps him the hell out.
Representing Song: Human - Christina Perri Skills: Enhanced Endurance/Stamina.
But depending what people are currently like, especially in school, also depending on his mood) Slight Catoptrophobia (Fear of mirrors. Lack of energy or being rendered unconscious can make him turn back human. He gains the weakness of his aliens. He needs to focus to be able to transform. His hidden sensitivity and anxiety can hinder his progress and the mission he’s on. He has a habit of taking on too much work, struggling to stay no to others who depend on him. In rare cases, his biology can go out of whack sometimes, causing things like blindness, dizziness, struggling to walk E.T.C but it’s never permanent, so far. In his human form, he isn’t the strongest fighter and barely has any defense in tanking hits. First Ten Forms:
War Roar
Cibeetle
Lavizard
Hollow Woods

Bio:
It had been nearly three years since the birth of Thea when Julie discovered she was pregnant. She contacted Ben, who was out in space at the time, and he came straight home to be there for her. Ben had demanded to have time off from work so he could spend time with his wife and his eventual child. Of course, when word got out that Ben Tennyson was finally having a child of his own, the media, the public or even some villains were desperate to question the two or cause a problem. With the help of family and friends, the couple managed to hide away or be protected from questions and the public view often enough to spend time together and prepare for the new arrival. It so happens that their new family member was born on Thea’s birthday, similar to how Ben and Gwen were born on the same day and believed they started a family curse. In came Jay Maxwell Tennyson. Many welcomed the newborn and many wanted to see the son of the galaxy’s hero. People like Gwen or Ben’s parents spoiled Jay with many toys or love, much to Ben and Julie’s amusement. Unlike Thea, Jay was rather gentle, shy, quiet and sweet, opposite to her bombastic nature. He’d be the one to play with dolls or draw while Thea would be the one to play out in the mud or with bugs, making Gwen and Ben feel like they swapped children. Despite being a healthy baby with two loving parents and a great family, the time came for Ben to start working again, often leaving for missions far in space and being gone for weeks or even months. Jay had struggled to understand why his dad failed to come home so often but had adapted to this life, getting excited whenever his dad did come and would cherish those moments, wanting to play with him or hear stories from him. Jay can easily say he looks up to his dad, so much and wants to be like him. Jay and Thea get on very closely, despite their opposite personalities. The moment Thea first held Jay, she felt a protective urge over her second cousin. While she does tease or push him around a little, she’ll do almost anything for him and always tries to make him happy. Their relationship has grown so much that the two are like siblings. From the moment he was born, Jay has had a fascination with space, The Plumbers and aliens. Whether it’s the many toy aliens he got, his father working with them or being told stories about space and aliens, he just couldn’t get enough of it. He’d be so joyful whenever someone like his dad or great grandpa would take him to the Plumbers, sometimes befriending alien kids of Plumbers. One day, something very unexpected happened to Jay. He transformed, and thus his Omni powers were discovered. It turns out, from what Azmuth explained to them, because Ben had worn the Omnitrix so long and used it so often, with it also attached to him when it replaced his arm, some cells had been infected or altered, even some gamete cells. And while it was a rare chance, Jay ended up with these powers. He’s able to turn into aliens once his body unlocks a form, much like the Omnitrix. You can tell if he’s gaining a new form if his personality suddenly changes or he gets weird habits, as he takes on the traits of the alien he’ll soon unlock. Jay had to learn to adjust to his new powers, often randomly transforming or getting side effects from it. Julie would do her best to support and care for her son and Ben, whenever he was home, would do the same and give some tips. The family agreed to keep Jay’s powers a secret, not wanting to cause someone to try and steal him or make the media rampage the small boy. Azmuth is one of the few scientists or doctors to know, since he’s often in charge of testing Jay’s powers and helping if his biology goes wack or causes side effects. Jay had mixed feelings with his powers at the time, but he was excited to see what they could bring and maybe allow him to become a plumber or hero like his father. However, a lot of his views and opinions changed when he started going to school and out in public more. He was put into the same school as Thea, so the two spent a lot of time together during break or became buddies when there were social events in the school. But the actual school and other people weren’t so accepting of Jay, in fact, many despised him. Since Ben was often out in space, he barely had time for earth unless they really needed him, many took this as a sign that Ben no longer cared for his home or his race, thus causing some backlash against the Levins and Tennysons. Since other kids feared Thea or couldn’t get a reaction out of her, their targeting fell onto Jay, who couldn’t defend himself and suffered the damage of bullying. He would try to stay optimistic and make friends, but people would reject him so easily and call him things. While the teachers didn’t do anything cruel to him, they’d often look the other way when he was bullied. At first, the bullying was only things like name calling or the occasional rude note given to him, but it quickly became physical as kids would shove him, trip him, throw things at him or even get into a one-sided fight, due to Jay not wanting to fight back or accepting what they said about him. Jay didn’t tell anyone, thinking it would soon end or that he didn’t want to cause conflict. He figured out how to use makeup and paint to hide any physical damage he couldn’t hide with clothing. He kept this up for a long time, until Thea discovered the truth. She would help treat some of his wounds, protect him if she found someone hurting him or encourage him to tell his parents and stick up for himself, he only disagreed and said it wasn’t that bad. She kept telling him to do so but never pushed it and didn’t tell anyone else, since he asked her not to. This led to Thea being even more overprotective of him, along with causing Jay to be more quiet and sensitive, but excellent at hiding it. While his parents or aunt and uncle found out about a small part of the bullying, the school didn’t listen to them as thoughtfully as they should have. The more he aged, suffering from the bullying and the judgement of society on him, Jay started to doubt himself and even his father. Jay loves his father, don’t get him wrong, but he can’t help but hate how the anger and disappointment towards his father also affects him. He’s plagued with doubts that he’ll never be as great as his father, always in his shadows and being put down by others who don’t think he’ll be as amazing as Ben. He loves Ben, but he can’t help but feel some resentment towards him. It wasn’t until the age of ten when the world learnt of Jay’s powers. He had nine forms at the time, but when an enemy of Ben came to earth to get revenge, did his tenth form appear. The villain had gotten their hands on Julie and Jay, taking them to a high building and started making demands. When the villain manhandled Julie and dared to hit her, Jay snapped and turned into a new form, the one he dubs Sin Reaper. He made quick work of the enemy but was quickly coaxed out of his raging form by Julie and Ben. Since then, he’s rarely used Sin Reaper due to his lack of control and aggression from it. The world, however, saw everything through videos people posted online. The family had to come clean and admit Jay had powers. This only caused more pressure on Jay’s life, since people began to see Jay as a freak or even non-human, making him question if he was human to begin with. With countless threats, comments and hits thrown at Jay, he became more and more doubtful of himself, even to the point where he began to hate himself and wished for things like he never had his powers or maybe that he never existed, but he never told anyone. It wasn’t until he became thirteen did something significant happen in his life to turn him around. On his thirteenth birthday, his father gave him and Thea plumber badges and said they could take part in plumber training and even some missions. This had been Jay’s dream when younger and once he entered the world of aliens and Plumbers, that dream came back. Many students or aliens he met around there were so kind to him, not caring he was different or that he was the son of Ben Tennyson, it would sometimes make them respect him or trust him. His skills and personality shined here, being able to take on many missions and talk with people, forming partnerships and rivalries. Thea is his primary partner, going on missions and adventures with her. Because they are opposites, they cover each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Thea protects Jay and teaches him that he’ll have to make hard decisions and that there are things that he can’t do, that he has to let go and move on from problems he can’t solve. Jay can be naive too often for his own good, and since he is unique with his abilities and how more accessible it is to capture him than someone like Thea, he’s often been kidnapped for revenge, profit and so on, making Thea the one to run in and save him. However, despite his naive nature, Jay’s forgiving and understanding nature can allow him to show Thea that things aren’t always black and white, that you don’t always need force to get things done and that his route, while rarer and longer than taking the fast and forceful route, can benefit better and even make new friends and allies in the process. He’s also gained friendships through people like Malax Shard, a plumber student senior who is often partnered up with them or trains them, Vanessa Morningstar, Thea’s biggest rival who he’s formed a fun and sweet relationship with, and maybe some deeper feelings, Feike, someone who Thea and him go to often to get information but maybe also have a wild time, Renata, an heir to the High-breeds who can help them with nation problems or law issues. He’s made many more friends over the time, even assisting others to get back on their feet or give them the forgiveness to realize their mistakes and become better people. This is the world that Jay feels like he belongs in. Despite his love for plumber lessons or missions, he still has to suffer with the anger people have for him and now the feeling of responsibility, sacrifices and how much bigger the world is. He’s been making enemies, making massive failures, beaten to a pulp, taking the lead from time to time and so on, something not easy to work with, mainly since he still gets judged and bullied on earth and helps his mother take care of the house. Being at a young age too, it’s caused many scars and problems for him and he’s struggling to focus and recover. He struggles to say no and to take a break. He’ll sacrifice himself more often than he should and take on more responsibilities and judgement than he should. Right now, Jay is struggling with his life and abilities, finding out what he is and if he wants to be who he is and what he wants to be. His countless doubts on himself, his friends, family and even the world can hold him back, but he pushes as far as he can go and will do anything to help people, save them or even give up himself if it means someone can live another day. He knows the world isn’t black and white, he knows people have stories and reasons, he knows he can’t stop doing what’s right and he knows he can make a change if he puts the effort into it. He will cover more obstacles later and larger threats, but he’ll take it on the best he can.
