Night of the Lepus (1972)
If you seek out bad movies, you’ve probably heard of Night of the Lepus. This means - I’m sorry to say it - the best part of the movie has already been spoiled for you. Even if you don’t know why this movie was doomed from the start, it’s only good for so many laughs. While you’ll have plenty of opportunities to ridicule what’s happening on-screen, I doubt this film will become a new favorite.
To humanely reduce the rabbit population ravaging rancher Cole Hillman's fields, scientists Roy and Gerry Bennet (Stuart Whitman and Janey Leigh, as compelling as a couple of lettuce heads) genetically modify the animals to make them less fertile. When their daughter, Amanda (Melanie Fullerton) releases a test subject into the wild, the state is soon overrun by giant Lepus timidus.
When rabbits were introduced to Australia in 1859, no one could’ve foreseen the damage they would cause to the continent's flora and fauna. The incident inspired the horror-comedy novel The Year of the Angry Rabbit, whose tone was completely lost upon screenplay writers Don Holliday and Gene R. Kearney. With the help of director William F. Claxton, they are trying to scare us using giant bunnies. You’d think someone would’ve raised their hands and questioned the decision. Maybe someone did at some point and to show them who's boss, this film takes the premise as if it were gospel. When the army calls for all residents to roll up their windows for fear of the giant, mutated rabbits stampeding their way, they should be laughing their eyebrows off. Instead, the people in this movie take it completely seriously, following every order to the letter without fail.
Incompetently directed, Night of the Lepus doesn’t appear to know how it could frighten audiences even if its life depended on it. Every time you see the titular monsters bounding through the tiny streets, all you can do is “awww” or laugh. There are never any ominous or moody shots. The tension is non-existent. When the film ends, you’ll be shocked. Was that it? There’s no way that was the climax. It was so easy!
Not helping the picture are the weak special effects. I can give a pass to the miniatures - how else would they have made the creatures look big? But you can clearly see the seams in several of the composite shots and whenever we get a close-up of someone fighting for their life as a giant rabbit attempts to chew their arms off, you think you’re watching a tussle between a drunken fan and the baseball team’s mascot. It’s pathetic. The actors underreact as they are about to die and when they’re calm and collected, the performances are awful.
This is one of the dullest horror movies I’ve ever seen - or it would be if it weren’t for the hugely misguided and idiotic premise. Actually, it is still fairly boring because what’s wrong about it is obvious and consistent. A true bad movie classic like Plan 9 From Outer Space keeps finding new ways to be bad. It surprises you. This movie? Not so much. After about 15 minutes, you’ve seen the range all the major actors have and after a couple of shots of the beasts chowing down on people (well, we don’t really see it, but we see the attacks and aftermath), you fully understand why this film isn't going to work. Night of the Lepus is worth seeing once so you can say you’re part of the club but don’t expect to return to this movie over and over. (On DVD, August 16, 2019)

HEROINES GAME: VOL 1 (SUMMARY)
A cruel tale of great beauty!
Alice is an idol with little success. One fine day, she wakes up in a mysterious forest...
While wandering in the woods, she meets a young girl with a wolf arm. Her name is "Little Red Riding Hood"...
Alice has actually fallen into a dangerous world where the Heroines of fairy tales must kill each other...!
A very casual synopsis of Volume 1 of Heroines Game! Hope you enjoy!
Chapter 1: Welcome to Tulgey Woods
Alice is an idol in a fairy tale themed idol group called the Wonder Princesses. She acts like your fairly typical idol girl on stage, but in actuality is a cold and cruel idol leader who immediately dismisses any teammates the moment they break idol law, in order to snuff out any potential controversies.
After firing another team member, she is called heartless, but proclaims in response that she'll do anything to become a Number 1 Idol. Unfortunately, her group just can't get their big break, as they lose another awards show. And Alice is still waiting for that day...
Alice's big sister Rina visits her backstage, after another live show and roots for her success.

Alice is confident that she can succeed, and then hard cuts to Alice lost and dying of thirst in a dark and gloomy forest.
She simply woke up here and hasn't had anything to drink for 3 days. There is a very cute Cheshire Cat mascot following her around, but Alice hates cats, so she shoos him (it?) off.
In a flower field, she sees Little Red Riding Hood, who has a wolf left arm and a red, sentient, wolf-shaped hood named Wolf. She's picking flowers to put in her basket for her granny, which is also where Granny's skull is being stored. Wolf alerts her of Alice, and Red pulls out her shotgun.
Chapter 2: Invitation to the Mad Tea Party
Alice runs off, and and Wolf tells her to play a shooting game and to shoot for Alice's arm and leg and ear. Red swaps to a glock and shoots with her wolf arm, and mostly misses, which Red criticizes Wolf for.

Red says Alice can't escape because she is in her "territory" (the setting of her fairy tale story). She's looking for the rest of Granny's body, but has cut open every wolf and hasn't found it yet. So what if she's inside you? Alice throws some sand in her face and runs off.
Alice finds a cabin to hide in, but it's filled with the dead bodies of several other girls, presumably the other Heroines. Alice has a short break down, but then remembers that she's Alice and will become an idol no matter what. So she pulls together the resolve to ambush Red with a club, and swings as Red enters the cabin. Wolf's tongue intercepts it and Red rips out Alice's heart with her wolf arm. Alice dies.
Granny's body is obviously not inside of Alice. Red had never seen Alice around before. Wolf asks if he can eat the corpse but his contract with Red states he's not allowed to eat any humans. Tower bells ring, marking the end of this killing game. Wolf isn't allowed to eat the heart they ripped out of Alice either, so he crushes it. After they leave, Cat appears and finds Alice's corpse and cries.
We cut to a castle, where all of the other Heroines are chilling at a tea party, a break between each killing round. We see:
-Cinderella
-Rapunzel (name not stated in Vol 1)
-Maid Maleen (name not stated in Vol 1)
-Snow White
-Little Mermaid
-Thumbelina
-Puss in Boots
-Little Match Girl
-Sleeping Beauty
-Little Red Riding Hood
Lepus the Rabbit, an egg-shaped rabbit, is the game master and states there are 13 Heroines left. Thumbelina states there are only 12 of them, but Lepus says he's inviting a new guest. Everybody is surprised, and Lepus introduces to everybody: Alice of Hearts.
Chapter 3: The Game in the World of Fairy Tales
Alice loves being an idol, even if it means she has to be heartless. Lepus approaches Alice in the middle of her monologue/nightmare dream, and asks her to join the killing game, for a chance to make her dreams come true. Also she'll die if she doesn't make a contract with him, so she agrees. Her body is now literally heartless since it was ripped out and destroyed, so Lepus turns Cat into her replacement heart.
Alice wakes up at the tea party and we get small interactions with some of the cast.
-Cinderella is the haughty, cold, and confident type
-Snow White is a toned down, "ohohoho" type
-Maid Maleen is turned on by the thought of being killed
-Sleeping Beauty asks to rip her open to see how Alice is still moving without her heart, until she's reminded that violence isn't allowed during tea time
-Little Match Girl is the nervous type
-Little Mermaid is the pacifist type
-Thumbelina also seems to be in the same vein
-Puss in Boots offers her protection is exchange for money
-Red is the quiet serious type and Wolf is the rowdy wild type
-Rapunzel only has one panel (Chapter 2) and no further appearances or dialogue in Vol 1
Alice burns her tongue on some hot tea, and Thumbelina offers some cold lemonade and toast and cakes. She asks for Alice's story and Alice tells her about how much she wants to become an idol. Thumbelina does not seem familiar with the concept.
Tea time ends, and Lepus introduces the rules of the game.
A cake is brought in with a winning slice.
The girl with that slice is designated as the "Heroine".
Everybody else are "Hunters".
The game starts and ends with the ringing of the tower bells.
If the Heroine kills all the Hunters, she will be the winner.
If the Heroine is killed, all of the Hunters win.
The Heroine will start off the game in her castle and the Hunters will be scattered throughout the Heroine's "territory".
With the rules explained, everybody eats their slice of cake and passes out.
Story Time!
It's the story of Thumbelina, the princess (not technically a princess in the original story but we'll let it slide) who was born in a *XXX* and slept in a *XXX* using flower petals as blankets and had an enchanting voice. Then one day she was kidnapped by a frog, but escapes from the swamp, and is carried away by the current.
I wonder who the Heroine will be this time?
(the scribbled out words are presumably "flower/tulip" and "walnut shell", judging by the accompanying illustrations and also her original story, although she was born in a barley stalk)
Alice wakes up, and she's tiny and the grass is super tall. She also wakes up right next to Red, due to some absolute RNGesus, since the Hunters are randomly spread out across a wide space. Alice pretends to be asleep and pretends to be surprised when Red wakes her up. When her back is turned, Alice grabs a very sharp plant stalk and holds it to Red's neck. Red is confused because she's no longer the Heroine, so she has no interest in killing the other Hunters, since that would only benefit the current Heroine, and Red is only looking for the most guaranteed path for survival. She has a compass pointing towards where the Heroine is located, a prize she won from winning the previous round.
Wolf picks up Cat and asks if he can eat it, but Alice grabs him back, since he's Alice's heart. Alice then throws him on the ground and asks to follow Red. She agrees, but points out that Cat is being eaten by an enormous caterpillar.
We cut to Thumbelina who is revealed to be the Heroine of the current game.
Chapter 4: Young Girl Antics
CLAWS OF THE DEVOURING WOLF
Red uses her special blunderbuss attack to blow the caterpillar up and rescues Cat. Red thinks cats are cute and also that Cat didn't do anything wrong.
Red surmises it's Thumbelina's territory they're in, since she's tiny at the tea party and now they're all small too. Alice recalls the story of Thumbelina, which Red is shocked by, as none of the others know each others' stories. Alice asks if she hadn't read them in books as a kid, but Red can't read since after being sent to visit Granny as a child, she's just been wandering around ever since.
Red beats up some giant ants and approaches a tunnel, which the compass was pointing too. Cat tries to show Alice a tripwire but accidentally trips it when she asks what he wants. Lina is notified and an injured ant bursts in and either taps her something in morse code with its antennae, or just dies. Can't really tell, since Lina just goes "no...it can't be...but don't worry my friends (referring to her alive friends around her)...but who could have done this?"
She doesn't seem to know who killed this ant; just that the Hunters are... capable of hunting? idk why i went on such a long tangent for a rather inconsequential scene lol
Alice complains about how dark and gross the tunnel is, and Wolf threatens her to keep quiet if she isn't going to be of any help. Alice is farther away from the entrance than Red. Then Lina runs up to Alice and hugs her, looking all hopeful and shit. Wolf tells Red to shoot both of them to instantly win the game and kill a fellow competitor in one go, but Red doesn't (for some reason).
Lina tells Alice to not trust Red, since Red will also turn on Alice, and to form an alliance with her. At this moment, a swallow barrels down the tunnel (the swallow that rescued Lina after she saved his life earlier in her story) and snatches Wolf away, since he's a fabric hood. Red is in shock and Lina runs up to comfort her.
Alice sees Lina maliciously grinning while doing so, and tells Red to find Wolf later, and for now to... (Alice doesn't get to finish this statement. Was she suggesting Red shoot Lina in the face while Lina is standing right next to her? I guess we'll never know). Lina accuses Alice of being a heartless bitch who doesn't care about how valuable Wolf is to Red and that she's not surprised since it was Alice who said to her Red couldn't be trusted.
(I understand your pain...Little Red Riding Hood...Let's go, together we can find...your precious cape.)
Lina embraces Red and lilies bloom in the background as she tells Red she's her ally. Alice is shocked.
Chapter 5: Thumbelina's Story
Lina and Red are all buddy buddy now, or rather Red is in shock and Lina is clinging to her and talking shit about Alice. Alice is reminded of fellow coworkers who would do the same. Both try winning Red over but Red can only worry about Wolf. Alice asks why Lina is playing the game, but she says she doesn't know why since she was already happy, and lived in a huge castle with a super handsome prince. Alice wants to crack Lina's facade.
They find a swallow feather and find a small island in a lake. There is a tree and what appears to be Wolf stuck on one of the branches. Red wades over and grabs it, only for an enormous frog to emerge from a water to rip off Red's wolf arm. Red realizes it was only a piece of fabric grabbed, Lina and Alice wade over to help, and it is only then that they notice the entire tree is full of Wolf-shaped cloaks somehow, even though it was a formally bare tree moments earlier, but I can write it off as magic. Cat begins to sniff out the real Wolf, even though I'm sure if the real Wolf was there, he could just...yell? And Alice follows Cat to go get Wolf for Red, since her whole arm got ripped off and all. But since it was her wolf arm, it regenerates since she's under a curse or something. And the Lina pushes Red off of a cliff that wasn't there previously, because the island was actually on the back of a frog and it was getting up. Alice asks why tf she did that (for somebody who wanted to win, you sure did forget the rules really quickly) and it's because Thumbelina is the Frog Princess and the Heroine of the Story.
(Onwards, my adorable children...eat your fill!)
SPECIAL ATTACK CRADLE OF THE LADY OF THE SWAMP
Several frogs emerge from the water and what were assumed to be water droplet decorations on Lina's design turned out to be frog eggs which is pretty fucking genius and badass. They hatch and devour Alice in a somewhat PG-13 yet also still salacious manner with their tongues. Cat begins to glow, and as the frogs comment on how she tastes weird and doesn't have a heart, they all explode.
(Off with her head!)
A guillotine falls from the sky and decapitates Thumbelina, even though it doesn't really make sense since the blade would have had to have come from a horizontal direction to sever her neck since she was standing up straight, but it's a pretty cool sequence so it's fine I guess. Alice is no longer in her typical Alice outfit, and is now in a Queen of Hearts inspired fit.
CHAPTER 6: The Punishment Will Be Imposed by the Queen
The frogs all cry, and Alice asks Lina's decapitated head, which has turned into a frog head with a wig, why she is crying if she was really so happy. Alice throws it into the lake and reveals the true story of Thumbelina. After being kidnapped, she was forced to marry the frog and then was devoured by her own children. The End. The frogs are devouring her head in the background.
Alice has some heart palpitations, and it cries out for more decapitations. Red crawls out of the water and Alice holds her at scythe-point. "Let's play a game...First it was the legs, and then the eyes, right? No...firstly her head!" and she swings.
Red blocks it with her wolf arm hand, so Alice cuts off the fingers (minus the thumb). Everybody is growing back to normal size, and Alice is caught of guard, so Red uses her special glock attack FANG OF THE DEVOURING WOLF and hits her straight in the heart!
But Alice doesn't die and won't die no matter how much Red shoots at her. Red is about to be guillotined when Wolf comes in and blocks it, who was finally able to escape the swallow after growing back to normal size since it would probably be too heavy for such a tiny bird. Wolf asks who Alice is, and Alice says:
I was supposed to die when you ripped out my heart, but I made a deal with Lepus. My heart has been entrusted with a mission, and as the Queen of Heroines, I am the Condemner Without a Heart...Alice of Hearts!
Off With Her Head! The queen pronounced the sentence, and the bells rang again...Who will be the next to be condemned?

Goswin Vance
A lovable slug-loving human with Down syndrome who represents Eridanus. Goswin and his family live near a river, where he often plays alone with his fidget toys. Sometimes, when he finds people who are lost, Goswin usually finds some way to help them.
Mojassameh

Morana
A witchy and mischievous Wolpertinger who represents Lepus. Morana likes to cause trouble with her electricity-related magic but always ends up being chased away. She has since escaped from her enemies but continues to be warded off by those she manages to provoke.

I’m still taking a break from this series, but this particular shitpost has been sitting pretty on my hard drive for a few months now, and people seemed to like birdseki no kuni, so I think I shall publish it. For the sake of my stress levels, please avoid posting spoilers in the tags.
Phosphophyllite:
Eta Carinae. Can’t decide whether to be one of the brightest stars in the sky, or completely invisible to the naked eye. Covered in dark clouds. A mess. About two minutes from going supernova.
Antarcticite:
The Perseid meteor shower. Really cool, but you only have like half a month to get to know it before it’s gone.
Cinnabar:
Lunar eclipse. Red, edgy, and emo; makes a statement.
Cairngorm:
Shaula and Lesath, aka the Cat’s Eyes asterism in Scorpius. Stares at you with disapproval bordering on contempt.
Padparadscha:
Venus. Bright and beautiful. Light of my life. But it’s only up for a few hours at a time
Ghost Quartz:
The Milky Way. Reticent and shy. Always there, but only visible in ideal lighting conditions. Quite pleasant when it decides to show itself
Diamond:
Canopus. Flashy… But only second best!
Kongou:
Polaris. Everything revolves around him whether he wants it to or not.

Pleiades. A breath of fresh air when you’re feeling down, just like chapter fifty one.
Barbata:
Lepus. Lowkey, but pretty likable.
Cicada:
Delphinus. Very cute. Shaped like a friend.
Aechmea:
Full moon. A nuisance that makes stargazing more difficult. You wish it would just go away but it has a knack for showing up in every chapter.

Howdy again and thank you for specifying!
Most of my card decks were pretty sleepy, but it seems that the Constellation Cards were happy to do a reading for you. I’ll pull three (3) cards for your query. “To check if you’re cursed and for me as the reader to give further insight.”
I’ll once again say that this reading I give likely won’t give a definitive answer, and will more likely just give insight. I have removed the Joker cards from the reading, so you will not be having those will not be turning up.
Jumper: Andromeda, the Princess of Joppa [Jack of Clubs]: In the context of this myth, I see this as the querent (you) in this situation. Not necessarily being something of a sacrifice to appease a god, but being put in a situation where it is bringing ill fortune. This is not a confirmation that there is a curse, but that there are things at play that are not favorable.
1. Perseus, the Hero [10 of Clubs]: This card coming right after the first (1st) is rather ironic considering the two (2) end up together in the myths. This card is saying to not wait for a hero (despite the connection and myth), but to take action into your own hands. Work will need to be done. Looking at this card does not tell me (the reader) whether there is a curse, but does advise to look into breaking bad luck (or even a curse).
2. Lepus, the Hare [8 of Diamonds]: The myth associated with this card is lacking within my book as it’s either associated with Orion’s hunting dogs or rabbits being brought in as an invasive species. Looking at this one, I am interpreting it as the need to put in the work. I see it tying in with the previous card which does speak of work. Effort will be necessary, whether this be thinking on if there is a valid reason for you to have been possibly cursed, or looking for ways to break the ill luck.
3. Monoceros, the Unicorn [4 of Diamonds]: The unicorn is a shining spot of this reading. Myths pertaining to this creature always speak of it being able to cure poison (and many other ill things). As this is the last card in the reading, it looks to me as if it is a resolution, a goal and potential future. That if you follow the advice of the previous cards, you can come out on top. Whatever is plaguing you, a curse or bad luck, can be broken.
TL;DR: It’s not clear if you’re cursed from my cards, but it does advise for you to look into methods of curse-breaking, bad-luck clearing, and things along that vein. It says that if the work is put in, then it can be cleared up but you have to be the one to do it.

One of my favorite things to do at night, more so now when I feel down:
Look at the stars and be thankful of being in a town I can see even more of them.
Ok, this current set of constellations where I live - Orion is out for a while yet.
Where I live, it’s so clear (planes or not) I can see Orion with his club and I guess a shield that I thought was an animal he killed.
Been trying to figure out what the heck Orion is attacking, so I searched and found this.
Come to find out apparently he has a bow and club? 🤔🤨🤷♀️
I’ll be looking outside tonight to see if I can see the others. I think I can see Lepus (which I thought was the Big Dipper), and maybe Gemini, which is odd to me because the constellation is now but the ones with that sign are May-June. 🤷♀️
I think Thunderbirds has rubbed off on me a bit more in regard to TB5.
Maybe I ought to get that shirt that says “space monitor” since they do sell those here in the states. (Still plan on a T-shirt that is all five though for my race... whenever they make up their minds rescheduling... 🙄)

based on @lepus-arcticus‘s tags on this post, hope she doesn’t mind that i stole them. also based on very brief google searching it seems like sean is widely accepted as pendrell’s first name?? if not that’s what we’re going with, friends
set like late s3, early s4??
When Dana was a little weirdo college freshman, Pendrell could’ve been in the running for her great undergrad love. Her parents would’ve approved.
There was something honestly, youthfully sweet about the way he finally seemed to work up the courage to ask her out, and knowing that is probably one of the few reasons she accepted. A reward for his pluck, perhaps.
Come to find out, without the lab coat and badge, Pendrell is a much more interesting person than she anticipated.
Outwardly speaking, Pendrell seems like the kind of person that thinks mixing it up with a museum is a wild date. An old warehouse comes completely out of left field. It’s a trend, lately, outfitting these old factories into clubs.
Being in this place on a date is the last scenario she would’ve guessed. Playing a scantily clad character in an undercover bust seems highly more plausible. But she’s just Dana, in her old black sweater, and Pendrell’s in a khaki shirt/pants combination, with plastic swimming goggles on his head, and it makes him seem vaguely like an endearing ghostbuster.
Very far from the kind of vigilante ghostbusting she is accustomed to, certainly.
Like all dates since hitting her thirties, there is a problem. There always is.
They agree entirely too much.
“That’s exactly what I’m saying, Dana!” They stand at high tables over beers. Their entire conversation since the car ride from Georgetown has been one long string of agreements. She believes the matching of their interests, of their experiences is genuine. Most people would probably call that having things in common. She calls it boring.
They start to head for the party down in the basement. “Wait, wait, wait,” Pendrell shouts over the rising volume of the music below. Sean shouts. Dana should really call him Sean.
She only knows of one man that prefers to be referred to by their surname.
Sean takes the goggles off his head and squeezes them over her hair, the elastic tugging on the strands. “For protection.”
She accepts his outstretched hand. They run down the rest of the steps, push through the crowds of people much, much younger, and more willing to mosh than them. She bangs her head, swings her hair to the music like she did in different times.
“Best gathering in the city, Dana, I’m telling you,” Sean raves on the ride back to her place. Parking in front of her apartment, he rounds the car to open her door.
It was fun.
In every sense, Sean is so right for her. He is nice, in the most basic definition of the word, and he is clearly full of just the right level of surprises. He is a fellow scientist. Some day, he would surely give her stability and babies. Dana doesn’t doubt for a single second that he would worship the ground she walks on if she gave him the chance.
She can’t kid herself, can’t humor him. She isn’t going to give him that chance.
Dana leans forward anyway and kisses him on the lips. Just long enough, with just enough pressure, to see a little of her lipstick transferred onto his mouth.
“I’ll see you in the labs,” he promises.
She smiles.
“Yes, Sean, you will.”

Scully walks up the steps to her apartment, breathing deep when the door is shut. Her answering machine is aglow with messages.
It would have been wrong to send Pendrell down a false path. Scully walks one herself. A path that diverges at pain and adoration, splitting off into new pathways, over and over, infinitely.
Her fingers dial familiar digits. The greeting on the other end sounds like warm honey and sleep.
“Hey, Mulder, it’s me.”
