And what if I said Abed is psychotic. Not as an insult but literally, he experiences delusions (believing he's a fictional character, referencing writers, crew, and audiences that in-universe do not exist) and hallucinations (believing the floor is lava, the flashbacks in the road trip episode). What if I said that his psychosis was mostly harmless when Troy was around because he felt secure as part of a comedic duo. Sometimes he even forgot he wasn't a real person. But that's all over now.

Thinking about trobed rn
Specifically how Abed says “For the first time in my long history of being locked inside things, I knew someone would come.” in the inspector spacetime con episode
And then Troy leaves
And then how when Hickey handcuffs Abed to the filing cabinet, Abed knows no one is coming for him.

dude you literally can't tell me that troy would just abandon the study gang in Greendale after he left. a year is a reasonable ish time for him to be gone but YOU CANNOT TELL ME HE JUST UP AND LEFT??? HE HAD TO HAVE COME BACK AT SOME POINT??
literally when he was at the air conditioning repair school for i don't remember how long (weeks? months? CERTAINLY not longer than he was on that boat) some guy is talking to him and he just looks up at the ceiling and goes "i miss abed so much" COMPLETELY UNPROMPTED
you can't tell me he just forgot about abed them like that? ughhh

i got my teacher to watch community and we had a really interesting conversation about it that left me super inspired. i havnt finished the show so any speculation or theories could be wrong but i wanted to write this down.
she asked me first “how much of the show do you this is through abeds perspective” but my attempt to answer it wasnt productive so she asked me “what percentage of the show do you think is just references” and then asked me if i thought that there were so many references, not just from abed, because abed is the main storyteller and we are seeing the group through his perspective. i dont know if this is already a super big topic in the fandom cus i have watched zero video essays yet but she also brought up that her husband said maybe the cast is filled with famous actors because its a movie abed is making. i think thats just normal hollywood type BS but i like that thought nonetheless. abed is able to express his emotions and better comprehend others emotions though movies, so thats how hes able to explore the lives of the rest of the group in that way. even if the show isnt being made by abed, there are plenty of episodes from his perspective, whether its obvious or not. im wondering about Remedial Chaos Theory. is it a glimpse into other universes or is it abeds imagination. i REALLY hope im not just missing something here cus i was thinking about that a lot
she also thought it was interesting how close troy and abed were and wanted to understand their friendship more. i brought up Conventions of Space and Time and what Abeds “friend” said to him. i might not be remembering it exactly right but he said that neurotypical people couldnt understand them. and that troy and britta were gonna go off and live their lives without abed, because abed wouldnt change (hopefully im not getting that wrong). and then it seemed to me, like the message at the end of the episode was that abed needed troy to keep him somewhat grounded. and while i dont 100% believe every neurodivergent person NEEDS a neurotypical best friend (i dont have one and im doing so cool), i told my teacher about that factor in their relationship, and she basically said “do you reallyy think troy is neurotypical though?”. SO FAR it seems like the show wants you to think so. im not sure if i buy it. but i also told her about Horror Fiction in Seven Spooky Steps just cus its funny that the autistic character is the sane one compared to a group of neurotypicals
i also went on my rant about how there MUST be some story about troys family that i dont know about because i know quite a bit about jehovas witnesses and unless he is hiding his life from his family or they are hiding his life from their congregation, there is no way hes an “actual” jehovahs witness. there are PLENTY of things he says in these one off jokes that prove he must have moved away from his family and religion (good for him). the fact that he LIVES with abed and annie would get him disfellowshipped. his closeness with abed would be unacceptable. i also found it strange that he says multiple times that hes gonna be “the first in his family to graduate from community college, cus the rest of them graduated from real college” because going to college is heavily frowned upon in the johovahs witness community right?? thats the reason so many of them get jobs that dont require a degree.

I can’t realistically explain my favorite shows by what their premise is because they are community and psych.
Community starts out in episode 1 as a Spanish study group and by the end of season 1 they have a campus wide game of paintball assassin. Later seasons? Hardly any classes. They’re only in Spanish for season one. The Spanish teacher becomes a dictator of the school and then fakes his death AND fakes amnesia. There’s a Halloween episode with an abba soundtrack. There’s a whole background plot line. The paintball episodes were what got the Russo brothers into directing MARVEL movies. There are two mostly all animated episodes. This show makes no sense and yet I love it.
And Psych? It’s about a grown adult with ADHD (canonical!) who is really perceptive and can also never hold a job and also almost always can be seen stimming faking being a psychic to avoid going to jail because of an anonymous tip he gave the cops. AND IT WORKED. Him and his friend who’s a pharmaceutical salesman or whatever start a psychic detective agency and Gus might not work at the pharmaceutical company anymore but idk. Also there’s lots of pineapples.
Either way they’re great shows for neurodivergent people because there’s (fairly) good rep in both and community ALWAYS has something going on in the background. Like that episode where Abed helped a couple deliver their baby soley as a background type plot

i don't think i'll ever get over how mad i am at s5e7 of community: bondage and beta male sexuality. god. it started out so good. how will abed interact with the media he loved with troy now that troy's gone. but no it turned into fucking. time to bully abed bc he's autistic. the ableism episode if you will. if you won't... i'll be understanding, unlike how hickey acted towards abed.

It's "I'm sorry" in sign. Two of my old chefs used to do it. If they were angry, fighting on the line, it helped. It was like their version of "let's talk about this later". Didn't matter if one tore the other one apart, it always got them through service.

[Season 2 summed up]
Aziraphale's thoughts: Oh I shall team up with Crowley and make Nina and Maggie fall in love and make them confess. Oh what if I also confess then. I need to prepare everything to set the scene.
Still Aziraphale's thoughts: Ooohh a ball with dancing and tiny snacks to make it fancy and it will be like a Jane Austen novel coming to life and then I will ask Crowley to dance and all our problems will go away as I stare into his eyes....
Crowley's thoughts: Keep Aziraphale safe Keep Aziraphale safe Keep Aziraphale safe Keep Aziraphale safe FUCK YOU GABRIEL Keep Aziraphale safe Keep Aziraphale safe Keep Aziraphale safe PLEASE HOLD MY HAND AZIRAPHALE Keep Aziraphale safe JANE AUSTEN WAS AN AUTHOUR?!?! Keep Aziraphale safe-

You know what’s so great about Tommy?
He represents hope. He is living proof that people can not only change, but also turn their lives around.
When he was in the begins episodes, he was scared and spineless and sometimes an asshole, all for the purpose of fitting in with Good Ole Boys club. He was deep in the closet and had been in an unhealthy environment probably all of his life. Lou said that Tommy had a rough life, an unstable home and childhood. Add an undetermined amount of years in the army to however long he was trapped at the old 118, I’m starting to think he never realized another option was for him. Not that there wasn’t another option, but that it wasn’t an option he could have.
But then Chimney comes in. Someone on another post of mine pointed out that it was because Chim was an “other” and Tommy didn’t want to be pinned as an “other” too and I agree. Same with Hen, but sadly worse. She got awful treatment from the 118 and Tommy went along with it. But even back then, we got treated to things like Tommy hugging himself during Hen’s speech to the house, to his face falling when the captain uses the “diversity hire” line.
But then Bobby comes in and he’s not standing for people’s shit. Slowly, the 118 starts to move forward and while Tommy isn’t stuck fitting into a toxic boys club anymore, he’s left behind because he can’t move himself forward anymore without confronting who he is. So he leaves the 118 and moves to Harbor.
Somehow, somewhere along the way to where we are now, Tommy came out to himself and with the way he talks, probably started therapy. When we meet him again, he is so gentle to himself and those around him. This is a Tommy we could see glimpses of before, but now he’s finally safe to be himself in all aspects.
And I think this is so important for all people who find themselves with any parallels to Tommy’s storyline. For so many people that have to live in secret. For people trapped in a horrible environment, one they have to mimic to survive. For people who can’t face themselves until later on in life. For people who look successful on the outside, but are crumbling on the inside. And to the person who fits their gender roles to a T, the macho man or feminine woman, who doesn’t “look queer” or “act queer”. There’s a place for everyone.
You just have to find your place. Look what that did for Tommy.
