It was Maid Day today yesterday a week ago so I got struck by inspiration to draw the worsties, and it ran away from me into a whole AU where they’re coworkers at a maid cafe. She’s a med student & this is just a part time job, and this is his depression job while he gets his life back together. He needs something he can be workaholic about to forget what it’s like having a personal life and personal issues. He’s actually the accountant, but the new hire janitor (Izutsumi) doesn’t show up for half her shifts and is a sloppy worker, so he gets the extra work of doing her job on top of his because he’s undervalued and overworked. Of course, janitors also have an uniform to keep the aesthetic cohesion as they go about cleaning the place, of course.

Senshi’s the part time cook you only see slivers off, he’s kind and warm when you do see him and have a chat but most shifts he’s in and out the kitchen without a trace. Laios and Falin are regulars because Falin and Marcille are besties & in the same med school, Laios accompanies Falin as she visits her friend at work and gets hooked on the food. Chilchuck has to remind Marcille to work instead of chatting with Falin for an hour, and next thing he knows she’s distracting him from work too. That’s it that’s the AU. Inspired by this idol AU fanart a bit <3

#turning novel #터닝 #kishiar la orr #yuder aile #when i tell you i read the manhwa in one go last night and then started reading the novel today bc commenters said it was good #and my god were they right #i'm 40+ chapters in so i've just passed where the manhwa is at rn and wow #first of all thank god there are high quality and easily accessible translations #second of all kuyu-nim has a way of making all the lines carry weight. the dialogue and body language cues especially #like i'm definitely not that far in but there are already a few lines i can point out that made my heart clench #and the tension between the two leads is so so palpable #kishiar is very enigmatic i'm very interested in finding out what he's really thinking and what his abilities are #and i really appreciate the way yuder's development is focused on him caring about others and relying on them #ok and third the fact that it's a slow burn romance but focuses heavily on the plot and politics and relationships is so good #based on the tags this could have been very tropey but they didn't go that route and i'm glad for it #in other news i'm upset about how yuder came out but i have to post him bc i will not separate them ;;; #thought kishiar would be harder to draw bc he's pretty:tm: and i struggle drawing pretty boys but yuder put me through the wringer fr #anyway!! i love them very much!! going a little insane over them as you can see!!

i totally understand why they didn't, but it does kind of strike me as a missed opportunity that trigun stampede revealed wolfwood's allegiances right away instead of holding onto it a little longer like they did the various reveals about vash.

trigun 98's wolfwood is almost entirely a consequence of metatextual/production factors (which is why it's weird that he's basically The One True Wolfwood in fanon content, but i digress) but one of the truly inspired things exclusive to him is the fact that we don't find out that he's a traitor until the same episode that he dies.

it retroactively reframes his entire relationship with the rest of the cast, especially his reappearance after fifth moon, and it's a realization that we have no time to sit with and that none of the surviving characters actually get to reflect on, because they don't actually know the way the audience does, and also wolfwood is dead. so why discuss it. it leaves the audience with the sense that this is almost kinder, for wolfwood to die rather than needing to painstakingly unravel his friendships from the foundations, and only maybe build them back up. — and certainly the sense that wolfwood thought so.

it's such a knife-twist of tragedy that's basically impossible to recreate in adaptation because only the format of 98 supported that kind of relationship-focused slowburn. i think stampede could have pulled off something similar, waiting until july to fully reveal what wolfwood had been up to, explaining his erratic behavior (walking into the trap that was zazie's whole setup, his reaction to rollo and livio....) and then revealing (as it's at the very least implied in canon) that vash saw through his shit from the beginning, and trusted him anyway.

#trigun meta #kinda. i was just thinking about how 98 has insane emotional heft #that is entirely bespoke because it had to rely mostly on its characters for tension given the plot was so loosely established #it's so fascinating and i love it. and stampede is clearly a love letter to both it and the manga #and i think they should have taken More cues from it. but i see how that + the hard sci fi angle + the plot of max would be. hard. #we got the birthday gag realized i'm counting that as a win
