Bad food and fast metaphors.
I find that my mind is getting weird with the way it relates the tragedy of us to the world around me. They say that heartbreak and love make poets of us all, but not necessarily a good poet it seems. Maybe my mind is just not creative enough, maybe even my imagination and creative drive is tired of my still being hung up on this after such a long time. Regardless of the reason, I find myself comparing our relationship, and us, to a couple of fast food chains now. Maybe I am just losing my mind.
See I was thinking about how I go to Culver's quite often now. Every time I go I think about how we never went together, despite there being one close by our house, because you assured me they sucked. I never questioned it, as at this point you were still playing the role of someone with similar tastes and values to me. The charade hadn't yet been dropped. So I trusted your assessment, despite never having been, and continued to rely on my old favorite: Steak N' Shake.
I would hit it all the time, you didn't mind since we always made sure to get you a shake when we went. Now I think of you as Steak N Shake, I saw you in the same way. You were both things from my past that I had a fondness for and saw as they used to be. I saw the restaurant as a quality place all things considered, a good burger, great fries, affordable. Really I saw it as comfort and dependable. It took a while before I really noted how much the chain had changed since I was a kid. My favorite menu items were slowly removed, the old school ketchup bottles and general aesthetic changed, they stopped using wait staff. Little by little the fun restaurant I went to with my family and friends for lunch on a day out turned into a generic overpriced and lazy fast food chain.
Similarly, you were not as I remembered you. Though much like SnS you put up the front of being so. The empathy I thought you had it turns out was false. The passion I assumed you had was actually just a picture of a fire propped up in the fireplace. The loyalty and honesty you valued back in high school when we met had both become traded commodities to you. I, of course, saw this all too late. So much like one of my favorite restaurants, one of my favorite people had lost its heart and value in favor of cheap imitations, thinking that the average consumer is an idiot and it is about what can be taken from them, not what you give in return.
So if you are steak N shake, and out relationship is the view I took of the restaurant, ignorant of its decline, where does Culver's fit in?
Well it is a place that still provides what it advertises. No, it isn't some high end classy place serving master class dining. But it is a place that give a quality product at a good size, and consistently delivers it for a reasonable price. So I guess Culver's is me. Sitting around, being something of surprising quality for its price tag, with a few items special to them that they take pride in doing well, and completely overlooked by you as a place that sucks. Not because I couldn't give exactly what I advertised and what you said you wanted from me, but because you have bad taste and are more concerned with taking than providing.
I don't mean to prop up Culver's, it is a fine enough place but it is still fast food. I am not sure if this metaphor makes it out to be better than it is, or if it just downplays my own value to keep with the theme. Maybe it is actually apt to compare myself to some run of the mill franchise. Maybe it is stupid of me to use a franchise at all given Culver's is very capable of making the same type of decisions as Steak N Shake. After all, it is still a franchise. Maybe I should compare myself to something more stead and less business focused. Too late now.
I still occasionally frequent steak N shake, accepting it for what it is now, realizing that its motives shouldn't have surprised me. It is a franchise and does what most franchises do. I made the mistake of assuming it was something else. So I can get my steak burger and remember the good times I spent there back in the day.
I still visit your memory. You are a liar, a user, and a cheater. That is who you are and what you do. I was a fool for thinking you wouldn't be that with me. So I sit down, and listen to our song. And I think of the illusion you kept up and pretend it was real for a time. I play it like an old movie, and enjoy the performance for what it is. Knowing it isn't what I once thought, and never can be what I believed it to be.

Goodboybob Coffee Roasters, 9355 Culver Blvd, Culver City, CA 90232, Score: 29/50
Tumblr media
Located inside the lovely Citizen Public Market, Goodboybob has all the earmarks of a good coffeehouse. They roast their own coffee beans, have lots of pastries and a food menu (toast, chapatis). I don’t know if they’ve won awards or not but they have Championship Coffees on three wood blocks on the shelf.
Score: 29/50
Food: 4/5 – The pastries look good but my cardamom twist wasn’t as good as Clark Street’s. It wasn’t bad either but not worth the price.
Coffee: 3/5 – They used to offer 10 pour over coffees (!) but now only offer two ($12 - $15). Coffee drinks include filter coffee, cold brew, pour over, espresso drinks, specialty drinks. They also have tea (loose leaf, iced). My cappuccino had way too much foam. The pour over is super expensive ($12 - $15). Mr. Froyo didn’t like his coffee.
Wi-fi: 1/5 – Free, unlimited, no password required but every time I tried to connect, it said no internet
Ambiance: 5/5 – Industrial but upscale blending of old and new, brick wall, long counter
Noise: 2/5 – Loud music, lots of talking
Plugs: 0/5 – Didn’t see any
Parking: 2/5 – Very tough but better on weekends, public parking structure
Comfort: 4/5 – Padded chairs, small tables, outdoor seating too
Bathroom: 5/5 – Shared with the other businesses in the food hall, they’re nice bathrooms, gender neutral individual stalls
Art: 3/5 – None but there isn’t much wall space
Tips: They sell coffee beans at the shop. It’s a popular camping spot so good luck finding a table. While there is a parking lot behind the business, it’s for the law firm, not the coffeehouse. Open daily from 7 AM – 3 PM.

Best Regional Fast Food Chains that should be Available Nationwide !
The United States has an abundance of fast food chains that are found in every state. The likes of Burger King, McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and KFC are just a few of the notable chains available nationwide, yet there are some regional establishments we wish could expand throughout the country. Depending on where you live, there are various fast food restaurants you will have never tried before – unless you happened to try one when visiting another state! There are certainly many regional fast food chains that deserve to be available throughout the entire country, and here’s our most-wanted restaurants: Culver’s A staple of the Midwest with more than 500 locations in the region, Culver’s offers traditional fast food fare that feels like a cut above so many national chains. Their burgers are the big winner here, known as butter burgers, these items are simply some of the freshest beef patties out there and you certainly tell by the taste. It may be helped by the generous helping of butter on the lightly toasted bun and a side of delicious crinkle cut fries, while you their unique frozen custard desserts is a must-try too. Bojangles’ Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits Bojangles’ is one of the best regional chains found in the Southeastern area of the country, reaching only as far North as Pennsylvania. Bojangles is under no illusions of its speciality dish, with fried chicken taking center stage on their menu. It’s easy to understand why they don’t focus on much else, as their fried chicken is some of the most succulent and flavorsome around. The secret Cajun seasoning gives it a unique spiciness that isn’t too overwhelming, while the breading always has the perfect amount of crunch. They know how to make a mouth-wateringly good biscuit too, which is the perfect way to compliment the delightful fried chicken. In-N-Out A favourite among west coasters, In-N-Out carries a somewhat cult following in California, where it is widely regarded as the best burger chain around. Not only are the burgers incredible, the prices are very affordable while the menu enjoys a range of classic fast food that hits the spot. The main reason for the lasting popularity is simple – freshness. In-N-Out doesn’t use microwaves or freezers, with all food supplies being freshly delivered. Unfortunately, this is the main reason it’s remain regional to mostly the west coast. Every restaurant must be within a day’s drive of either distribution centers located in Texas and California, making franchising unviable on a nationwide scale. Whataburger Ask anyone in Texas what the best fast food chain is and you can expect most of them to say Whataburger. Today, Whataburger is mostly situated in the Lone Star State, with a few neighbouring regions also getting a few locations of their own. Enjoying a friendly rivalry with In-N-Out over who produces the best burger in the game, there is a lot to love about Whataburger’s menu. Their burgers, unsurprisingly, are the big seller. Huge beef patties are so freshly made they melt in your mouth, with a range of delectable toppings available. Their breakfast menu isn’t too bad either! Last night was our first time eating at @culvers in Decatur with the Special Olympic team. Was very pleased with their menu and prices. The kids meal is even large and comes with a custard. We got a veggie burger with mustard instead of Mayo. Next visit, we will swap the fries (which we had to be in the know! They are the best!) for broccoli or a salad. #veggieburgers https://www.instagram.com/p/CfHFv__Lh5K/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Munch Squad: Culver’s Limited Time Curder Burger 10/15/21
It’s good! I liked it.
Tumblr media
… but I won’t make an effort to get it again.
I’m not the biggest burger person, having been vegetarian for the majority of my life, but there’s better fried cheese burgers out there (the shroomburger at Shake Shack comes to mind). I love a cheese curd but so much of the squidge is lost in this giant form that it’s just a big mess. The burger patty is totally superfluous. This might be fixed by assembling in a different order, but then you run into sogginess issues, so… Also, I think crinkle cut fries are the worst kind of fries and serving a burger with Pepsi just adds insult to injury (it’s too sweet to combat the cheese). Combo price came in just under $10 which I thought was reasonable.
Despite living in the Midwest for several years, I had never been to a Culver’s before. They’re not very well known in Texas and it was a 20 minute drive from the suburb I live in to the other suburb where the restaurant is (incidentally, there are two approximately the same distance from my place, I went to the Flower Mound location). The menu is unreadable, so if I didn’t know what I wanted, I probably wouldn’t have gotten it. There was a significant wait even though I was the only customer in the lot. Also, no one was wearing a mask, but the drive thru cashier was wearing a single glove with a huge rip in it, so… very safe.
What else??? I’ve never written something like this before.
[Photo ID: side view of the curder burger in front of my steering wheel. From the top, seedless white burger bun, cheese curd patty, burger patty, tomato, chopped iceberg lettuce, red onions, mayonnaise, bottom bun (for the record, there were also dill pickle chips on it, but they aren’t visible). A white paper bag is blurry in the background with the slogan “I feel the need. The need for cheese.” printed on it in blue letters. The bag is full of fries.]

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Restaurant
Tumblr media
You will have to request for ready food in a restaurant and then pay for it if at all you needed to have something in your stomach. There is no doubt that you must get what you need and by so doing you will need to get the restaurant of your choice so that you can have the best food ever. You should be very careful when heading to some restaurants for food because not all of them will offer what you really expected. Although it is not easy to choose the best restaurant, you will have to try your best, by all means, to get what will serve you best.
To be in a position of selecting the best restaurant here is some of the tips that you should put into consideration.  It is very important that you consider where the restaurant is located before any other thing. This is what will give you an idea whether the restaurant will be at the right place or not.  It is very crucial that you consider a restaurant that is somehow near to where you are but at the same time offering good services. You will have a number of complications when you opt for a faraway restaurant because you will need transport means.
Getting to know the environment of the Versailles Cuban Restaurant Culver City will contribute a lot when it comes to the selection process. There are those environments whereby you will have a lot of disruption and you might not enjoy your whole time there.  If you will be happy with the kind of atmosphere that the restaurant is at, then you can make a choice and select a good one.  There is that restaurant whose ambiance is very hot and you do not enjoy at all while at that place.
It is good that you investigate whether the Cuban food the restaurant offers will be favorable for you. It is very important that you think of a restaurant whose menu is favorable and there will be a variety of foods that can be taken by customers.  However, there are some special foods which are offered only in a few restaurants and you should be careful so as to choose those restaurants if only they are the ones you need.
Therefore, to put your heart in peace then you should make sure you choose what is good for you.  Have you experienced some of the services that the restaurant offers before? It is very important that you choose a restaurant with which you cannot compromise its services and that way you will be able to get your best. You should make sure that you do not get exploited whatsoever and you come up with what you considered best in terms of the prices of the foods.

Culvers’ reputation was built on their signature Butter Burger. Culvers use 100% fresh Midwest beef. The beef is grilled to perfection and served on lightly buttered toasted buns.
Culvers’ Fresh Frozen Custard is another item they are well-known for. Culvers uses only the best dairy, Dutch-blend chocolate and cold-pressed vanilla. The perfect temperature is used to allow you to enjoy the flavors for longer.

Chapter 2
So last night was an adventure. After work I dragged myself to the gym. Th gym was alright. I went without a mask because I would die in there if I wore one. Ironic I know. It’s the Xsport by my apartment. It’s very humid in there probably because the pool and whirlpool are separated from the gym by panes of glass. It’s bad and when there are 100 people generating heat because they are working out it sorta becomes impossible to breath. I worked the chest, trying to get my pecs smaller so my nipples don’t pop out of all my shirts. Even pasties can keep them down. I think I’m getting stronger? But I also feel very week. I can only bench 90lbs on a machine. And using machines already feels like cheating. I ran on the elliptical and thought I was going to die. Mostly because of the humidity in the gym. I did talk to this guy for 2 seconds. He was cute and had tats on his calf. The tats were none of the fandoms I knew so it wasn’t meant to be. It was nice though…boy am I thirsty for male interaction. Its probably why I have so many dating apps open. Well for now anyways, I am already tired of them.
After the gym I went down to the ½ Price Books nearby. I was looking to buy my book, the book I am reading for my monthly goal of 1 book a month, The Astonishing Color of After. Online it said it was $6.88 but when I found it in store it was $9.95 or something like that. I felt betrayed but it was just $10 so I grabbed it. I was looking around for gifts for Jess’s birthday when I started to peruse the Funko Pop section. Nothing stellar some overwatch characters and some Steven Universe characters that were just OK. I’m looking at you Pearl. But then I saw it, the best blue character on Steven Universe…Lapis Lazuli! “Score!” I thought, “I am buying this.” Then I looked at the price tag on the box and audibly gasped. She was $60 and I was like “fuck why!?!?” I did a quick google search and found that she was selling for over $100 in box. I put Lapis down because she was too expensive, but then I remembered when I passed on a really cool comic book at ½ Price Books. It was $40-$50 and too expensive. Days later I realized I wanted it but by the time I returned to the store it was gone. That memory, that experience of missing out on a comic book is the reason why I have Lapis now. I don’t know if she should stay in the box, be out of the box and on a shelf, or if I should resell it for more money. Honestly, I am leaning toward out of the box and just keeping it in good condition. I really identify with Lapis.
After that I went to the closest Aldi. It was 5min away and on the way to my parent’s house. I am currently staying with my parents because my landlord is really taking his time fixing a leak in the upstairs apartment’s bathroom. The water is draining between the wall that my kitchen and the bathroom share. The leak has left a small hole in the ceiling of the kitchen and has done water damage on the bathroom side underneath the sink. It’s moldy now and smells. I am not happy. Anyways I am staying at my parents until the mold is removed. It’s been 3 days at this point. The landlord said he would fix the leak today, but not the mold today which I am like, ”but why! Fix it all please.” We will see what he does.
Back to Aldi. I get there and the parking lot looks very vacant and I think, “this is probably a shit Aldi I hope they have that I can buy.” I get closer and realize that it is closed. Like out of business closed. The annoying part is someone took the time to stop their car in the street, roll down their window and tell me that the store is closed. Thanks for nothing ass hat. I could tell. It wasn’t like I was trying to get into the store. As if I was slamming my body against the glass door hoping that the sensor would recognize that a body was trying to get in.  I wasn’t screaming and crying to let someone open up the door and let me buy groceries. That dude can fuck off. Yes the Aldi is closed, I got it without your help. You didn’t need you to point it out. I’m already embarrassed that I even parked and walked towards the store. In my defense all the lights were on.
So I hopped in my car looking for a place I could get food on the way to my parents. I passed a couple fast food places but because I am trying to eat well on the weekdays (Fuck the weekend I eat what I want) I decided that Popeyes or Culvers wasn’t the best choice. I drove by a Vietnamese restaurant that had Pho in the title and I was like, “Hell yeah, that’s my dinner” and I did a big ass u turn. Despite the sign saying open, all the lights were out and it was clearly a closed business. Once again, I had found another dead store. I was so annoyed. Thankfully in the same strip mall there was an Indian restaurant and I was like, “OK cool this will do I guess.” I went in and it was just a wife and her husband making food. Its literally just a small kitchen that I could see into and seating in the front for maybe 20 people. It was tiny. I ordered the food and I got in 10min. There was a guy there and he seemed to have also just discovered the restaurant. He was talking to the wife and husband duo about tv shows. He was not very cute so I did not stare.
I got the food home and it was super good. A little bit cheaper than my usual Indian restaurant, but just as good and a ton of food. I blew all my calories on the meal. It was Jasmine rice, naan, and butter chicken. I did think of a vegetarian option but decided not to because I didn’t want to look dumb incorrectly pronouncing words on the menu. Anyways the food was great and because I didn’t eat anything all day I didn’t worry too much about the calories. I hung out with my mom for a bit. My mom is being very weird about giving me space. I am the one who is encroaching on them, not the other way around and it makes me feel weird that she’s acting like that. I don’t like it. I wish mom would be more assertive and tell me what she wanted instead of catering to what I want. I didn’t really see dad, I just said hello when I got in. The rest of the night was TV and recuperating from the gym.

Pinkberry, Westfield Culver City, 6000 Sepulveda Blvd., Culver City, CA 90230
Tumblr media
Fro-yo girl here. It’s been a crazy long time since I’ve been to this mall, but when I walked in, Pinkberry was almost the first thing I saw. The mall has definitely improved since the Fox Hills Mall days.
Pinkberry has a kiosk on the ground level near the center of the mall. The menu is on a LCD monitor. Like other Pinkberry locations, the menu includes, smoothies, shakes, parfaits and froyo. The toppings are better than average. I usually get the dark chocolate crisps, almonds and pomegranate seeds when they have them.
Froyo flavors of the day:
Chocolate hazelnut
Mango (non-dairy)
Crème brulee soft serve ice cream
Original: tangy, sweet, not too icy or too creamy, the classic
Pomegranate
Pecan pie: I’m a fan. It was light, creamy, smooth and not too sweet – but it still felt indulgent because of the taste of pecans and the wonderful toppings.
Fro-yo prices:
Cone: $2.95
Small $3.50/with unlimited toppings, $4.95
Medium $4.50/ with unlimited toppings, $5.95
Large $6.50/ with unlimited toppings, $7.50
I was pleased by their generosity with toppings and the texture of my frozen yogurt. This seems like a good location though there was only one employee. But, Pinkberry and shopping are the perfect combination.
