The evil little girl has run into some fin rot issues :(

I feel bad because she has some natural red coloration to her fins, and that in combination with her high activity levels made me think that maybe she just got snagged on a rock while hunting shrimp or something, instead of realizing that the new red streaks and the more distributed pattern of fin damage meant she had an infection.

That said, she's still acting healthy, and I ordered some antibiotics for her that should arrive tomorrow. I did thankfully already do a water change yesterday, so the water itself should be nice and clean.

We're both sick right now, girlie...

Kilgore gave us quite a scare - he had to have a week-long stay in the hospital due to undiagnosed asthma and subsequent pneumonia. He's back home now and recovering well. We have some photos under the read more because he's sick and there's a few hospital shots, but rest assured he's doing a lot better now:

He had some breathing issues off and on the past two months. The vet couldn't find anything on xrays, ultrasounds, or a blood test. Pain meds cleared up the problem every time, so we figured it was pain. However after the third time with worse symptoms we took him into the emergency vet.

He was in bad shape so tests progressed from least to most invasive. After a few days of testing and cultures it was determined to be pneumonia caused by an underlying asthma problem. Asthma in cats is quite rare, and pneumonia is also quite rare. If your cat has mysterious respiratory issues, ask your vet if you can get a tracheal wash test to determine the issue sooner rather than later! It may be expensive and invasive but it's what finally determined the culprit.

He turned the corner and started getting better on Thursday. Antibiotics and steroids finally started clearing his lungs and he was back on solid food after days on IV. He started charming the vet techs as well, so we knew our little baby was getting better.

He's back home with a feeding tube mostly for meds, as he's having no issues with solid foods but he's quite the fussy cat when it comes to meds. A few spots shaved bare from tubes and xrays, but they'll grow back. His sister Zouzou is a little bitter that she has to share the space again but she'll get over it.

It was a tough week but we're so happy to have him back home.

My cat's kidney failure has progressed a lot faster than we thought possible. Two months ago they said mild to moderate, but with dietary changes he should be okay. Today they gave us his latest lab results and said he is looking very sick.

They said toxins are building up in his body, because his kidneys aren't filtering them out like they should be. The rate at which they build up can vary, which makes can kidney disease unpredictable. He's nauseous, less interested in eating, and dehydrated.

No matter what happens I am so grateful for the time we've had with him, but I am torn apart by the thought of him suffering. I'm scared. I want to drop everything I'm doing and hold him and give him all the love in my heart.

It is just one thing after another today. I took a nap and woke up to my cat with Tourette's having another episode. I dunno when I'll be back on, it's a little dependent on how Tree is doing. Having him under the blanket helps, it makes him feel more secure. Most likely this will pass soon.

Yesterday, our dearly beloved rat, Hesper, passed away.

He was the last of our rats, as well as one of the most loving and good-hearted animals I have ever known. He slept in bed with us every night and spent every day overjoyed to be in our lives, even while declining following a stroke. When he finally reached a point where I could see he was starting to suffer, I made a petition to the Bone Mother asking her to embrace him and carry him lovingly to the Quietus. Not even two minutes afterward, he passed away in our hands as we stroked him and sang to him.

His warm cuddles, shining eyes, and unconditional love will be deeply missed and forever cherished in our hearts. It's really hard to lose another beloved companion while in the process of caring for two other terminally ill animals, but I am grateful he is at peace.

This is a mourning portrait taken of him after we anointed him with holy oils and laid him out on a bed of rose petals upon our Chthonic Altar. I feel compelled to share it, as a reminder that Death can be a beautiful and spiritual experience, even if it's a painful one.

In the afterlife, she is ecstatic to have full mobility and rejoices in being able to do all kinds of things she had never even dreamed of before.

negative stereotypes? None! Many people (including me) relate to her and her representation of being physically disabled and appreciate the representation that was shown after the fact when she was reincarnated.

Good news! Doggo is back from the vet; she needed to go to a specialist further away but the blockage was cleared without invasive surgery. Turns out she hadn't even eaten anything she wasn't supposed to, she was just majorly backed up for lack of a better term but she's safe now and finally I can fucking relax.

Sprocket's acting worse this morning, and he hasn't defecated in at least 24 hours and very little in the days before that (extremely unusual for him) so we're going to the vet again in an hour, because I'm very worried he might need emergency surgery/he might have gotten blocked. Send good thoughts our way.
