The Doraemon franchise takes place somewhere in suburban Tokyo, Japan. While some of its movie sets take place in another planet/world (2019 takes place on the Moon), they have also travelled throughout the world through its numerous movies. In order of mainline appearance, the list of places include:

Zoology trivia in a recent Doraemon episode: "勝ったらばガニ" ("Winner Gets to Eat Crab"), an anime-only story not based on the manga. In this one, the main characters need to defeat a king crab robot in at least one of three randomized contests for the chance to have all-you-can-eat king crab.

Gian thinks he can outmaneuver the robot in sumo wrestling because "crabs only walk sideways", but it reveals that king crabs are closely related to hermit crabs, and so can in fact rush forward to knock him out of the ring.

There are many benefits to being a marine biologist.

Chapter 10 Trivia

Friendship backstories!

Senku's in first grade here, so he's either 6-7 depending on the time of year. He's got what is probably a leatherman and a mains testing screwdriver in his pocket (or a pen? I'm not sure if it's transparent or has writing).

On Senku's desk we have Boichi's mascot on the right, Doraemon manga on the left, NASA posters behind and an RX-78-2 Gundam in the middle.

Senku says he doesn't even know the first thing about science, but keeps specialised tools in his pocket..?

The book titles here are probably 「アリエナイ理科」 (Mad Science) and「マンガでわかる理科」 (Manga For Understanding Science).

Byakuya doesn't want to let go of the keys to the car here, the man has to tug them away from him…

There's a lot of random science items in here.

The pattern on Senku's pyjamas seems to disappear.

Iron sand wouldn't work for this application, as the sand tends to be magnetite rather than iron (III) oxide, which is necessary for the thermite reaction.

Thermite itself can be made with many combinations of metal power and a metal oxide.

Senku's testing the rocket engine's power here which is why it's contained in a frame.

The part that makes me sad is that Taiju's shoes are too small and worn out, who's been taking care of him if his parents are dead?

Baby's first branding?

Senku built a Tesla coil to defeat the bullies with as Taiju doesn't fight back. These are possible to build, but they're close range "weapons" only, and can be fatal if you get zapped by the wrong part due to the electrical current.

Ablative material is what is on the outside of a rocket, preventing it from getting shredded during ascent and reentry. The ones on a rocket are designed to disperse the heat and shed material slowly, protecting the internals.

The shopping list is for a small computer (Raspberry Pi), a device to interpret the signals from other sensors (transmission module), and something to measure direction and tilt (gyroscope).

Put together, Senku will be able to collect mid-flight data.

A Yagi-Uda antenna is just a directional antenna.

Why Taiju thought it was a good idea to open something with a skull and crossbones on it indoors and after knowing Senku for a while, I have no idea.

Taiju's doll lost a button after the explosion, and Senku's hair split in several places. In particular, the front strand split, just like the real Senku's!

The cervical plexus is a collection of nerves along the back of your neck. What Tsukasa proposes is severing the connection between the head and the rest of the body. If the injury is above the 3rd vertebra, Senku's breathing muscles will be paralysed.

As there are also arteries in that area, blocking those will prevent oxygen reaching the brain and Senku will fall unconscious quickly.

However, this is not an "instant" death.

I always wonder, if Tsukasa had had friends before petrification, would he have still done this to Senku?

It's also pretty funny that Tsukasa's fond flashbacks are mostly him interacting with Senku while naked.

✨ what draws you towards your hyperfixation? what is interesting about it?

I think what’s most fascinating about CT is how so much talent and effort went into making it, but how its episode run was abruptly cut down, and then got buried for decades. The TV series is a mash-up of Ishinomori’s Tick & Tack Adventure and SP Harley series, it’s got obvious l*l*con boom influence, it’s got one part Doraemon facsimile, and more...CT feels like Studio Pierrot crammed every popular anime trope from 1981-1984 into a single package, and I wish I could find more about its production history.

🏳️‍🌈 do you have any headcanons (lgbt, race, neuro, etc) that are important to you?

None that are really important to me, per se, but I’ve long had the headcanon that Dr. Bell and Giji-Giji are some sort of poly couple. A mutually-parasitic toxic couple, but they’re the villains, after all. The fact that this was their last scene in the entire series kinda sealed the deal for me.

💎 are there any fun facts or trivia that you would like to share?

I have some animator douga sheets, and according to the early notes, Maki was almost named Mako. They probably changed it to make her stand out more from the rest of the girls - who were almost named the Lemon Riders, not the Kyunkyuns.

Here is a My hero academia OC I made, Slap-Stick.

Name: Osamu Fuji

Hero name: "Slap-Stick"

Age: 16

Quirk: squash and stretch:

It's basic elastic and rubber powers. Stretchy limbs, bullet proof etc. But he doesn't stretches his limbs willy nilly. He has to focus hard, holds them back and throws his limbs forward to make them stretch out. He can inflate himself and his body parts by inhaling and holding his breath. To make his body parts bigger he blows it in. For instance, he blows his thumb to make his hand larger. Whenever he gets crush it doesn't kill him, it just makes him flat

Weaknesses:

He may be immune to a lot of things, but if he gets blown up, disintegrated, melted, poisoned or shattered he won't come back.

Background:

Osamu was born with the ability to stretch, he discovered his quirk when he was 5 years old when he was about to throw a water balloon at someone, his arm stretched. Not only is he into superheroes (his favorite being ms. Joke) but he is into the entertainment business, and wants to use his quirk to not only help people, but to make them laugh as well.

Character:

Osamu is shown to be very energetic yet very clumsy. He's shown to pull practical jokes on the U.A students, and his favorite victim is Bakugo katsuki because he just loves to see him so angry. Although, the one person he is afraid to prank is Shoto todoroki, because his ice powers would freeze him and he's scared of getting shattered, but over time he warms up to shoto, and even managing to pull a fast one on him. Despite him being silly and over the top, he really cares about his friends and would do anything to make them smile. Although he would get overboard with it, and would need to just back off if someone feels really bad.

Trivia:

Osamu's name is the combination of Osamu Tezuka (creator of astro boy) and Fujiko k. Fuji (the creator of Doraemon), two iconic manga publishers.

Slap-stick's whole gimmick is that he is based off of old rubber hose cartoons from the 1930's.

How I wish I want to buy a new tablet to play Cytus 2 smoothly and without a problem or bug issues. To be honest, I’m better at playing Cytus and Cytus 2 with a tablet than my phone.

Sometimes when I get bored and lonely, I wrote a wishlist that I want so please understand this. And when I’m always bored, I will get sleepy and get back to my nap.

My favorite foods are anything, sometimes spicy but not too spicy. I hate something raw, slimy or something strange unless it is okay. I also love ice cream, cake, froyo and dark chocolate. I love Starbucks too that my favorites are anything iced, frappuchino and cold brew with sweet cream. I especially love Brown Sugar Milk Tea and I want to try Wintermelon Milk Tea.

My favorite fruits are Mango, Banana, Strawberry, Kiwi and Seedless Grapes..

My favorite flavors of ice cream: Cookies and Cream and Double Dutch. For sundaes, I love hot fudge. I also love Magnum too.

Why I love books? It brought me knowledge that everytime I went to school library in both grade school and high school, recess and lunch time cannot be boring especially when there is a book fair from Scholastic. I even read newspapers inside the library as well.

My another interest is I love writing letters all over the world. It’s called penpals. I was started penpaling last August 2018 because I want to stay motivated and not to get even more bored.

As an extra bit of trivia: the idea of a CG-animated Lupin III had actually been tossed around on the TMS floor for several years. Back in 2012, TMS released Lupin III: Master File, a collectors DVD containing a slew of production minutia and other small stuff that hadn’t seen a public release. Among the minutia was a CG-animated short created by Marza Animation Planet as a proof of concept. (That studio had been involved in the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise since Sonic Unleashed.)

Fast-forward to today, and it seems like that proof-of-concept has now come to fruition, with the director's seat taken by Takashi Yamazaki, who also directed the award-winning Stand By Me Doraemon and the soon-to-premiere Dragon Quest: Your Story.

From when I was 2 years old until I was 10 I lived in America (Illinois・Alabama) so、I can speak English!

Speaking of Illinois there’s the Chicago・Bulls

Alabama doesn’t have an NBA team but there’s the Atlanta・Hawks、and I often went to play in Georgia which is next door to Alabama so it’s a place with lots of memories♡

My voice is pretty unique?笑 My voice often changes。

I’m proud of my Doraemon impression笑

My special skills are、English and piano!

For piano、I can basically play songs that I know without any sheet music〜!♡

My interest is、recently basketball! And western movies、western music…maybe because I lived in America、I really love foreign things〜! I also love learning languages so recently I'm studying〜。

And so my dream is to do a world tour as Morning Musume。!♡ And、I want to increase my overseas work〜♡!

This year、in February I took up post as an ambassador、and I went to places such as the Lakers’ home area of Los Angeles and the NBA head office in New York!

This is a Los Angeles Nike shop!

It was full of basketball related goods〜♡♡ It was really fun!

And around town there were loーts of NBA fans ♡

Since I can speak English I was able to use it to interview the players! Somehow、I was even able to interview Kyle・Kuzma!

I was also able to watch Kuzma and Lonzo・Ball practicing on the court live in person!

Doraemon Movie Review: The Record of Nobita's Parallel Visit to the West (1988)

What is Doraemon? The title character of the Doraemon manga and anime is a blue robotic cat from the 22nd Century who keeps an array of high-tech gadgets in a portable pocket dimension on his belly, and has traveled from the future to improve the fortunes of a hapless schoolboy named Nobita. Although relatively obscure in the English-speaking world, Doraemon is a Mickey-Mouse-level cultural icon in East Asia (and some other regions, too). The Doraemon franchise was a big part of my childhood, and there are still elements of it that I enjoy now.

Doraemon has released theatrical films almost annually since 1980, most of which involve Nobita and his friends (kind Shizuka, brash Gian, and crafty Suneo) getting swept into adventures thanks to Doraemon's gadgets. Despite being of potentially broad appeal to fans of science fiction and animated films, there are very few English reviews of the Doraemon movies, so I'm embarking on a project to write about all the films that have come out so far. Movie premise: Nobita and his friends re-enact the 16th Century Chinese novel Journey to the West.

My spoiler-free take: An entertaining concept that has its moments, but doesn’t quite reach its full potential.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS AFTER THIS POINT

Review: This one has the distinction of being the only Doraemon movie released in the manga author Fujiko F. Fujio’s lifetime that did not have an original manga counterpart. The idea of the Doraemon cast role-playing as Journey to the West protagonists and using Doraemon’s gadgets to replicate the events of the story is fun, and once the main characters settle into their roles, this film is not a bad time. I’ll even forgive the fact that the main thing Shizuka does is get kidnapped by monsters, given that she’s playing the part of Tang Sanzang and that’s essentially his shtick in Journey to the West.

What I do take issue with is how long it takes for the movie to get there, with about half the film spent on setup. The revelation that demons have taken over the world is pretty solid, but I found the subplot of Nobita trying to convince his friends that Sun Wukong was a real historical figure to be less interesting. The story also doesn’t reflect very well on Doraemon’s character, as this is one of the few times (maybe the only time?) in the movies where the villains become a threat as a direct result of his negligence. Finally, I might have just been seeing things (I am incredibly bad at assessing animation quality), but it seemed to me that the animation in this entry was not up to the usual standard. Overall, there were elements of this movie that I enjoyed, yet I came away from it with the feeling that it could have been more.

I’ll finish off with some stray trivia that I couldn’t fit anywhere else in this review. This movie features perhaps one of the most bizarrely specific Doraemon gadgets ever: a gun that turns bats into umbrellas. In addition, there’s a scene where the main characters speak a few lines in Mandarin after eating Translation Konjac, which was a nice Easter egg.
