Way behind, doing it anyway!
1. When did you discover OFMD? A little later than everyone else. I think I started watching it after all the episodes had dropped, and people were talking about the Gay Pirates.
2. What was your first impression? I didn't quite hate it, and I wasn't sure I'd watch past the first three episodes. That was a surprise to me because I like Kiwi humor. I think the problem was I'd been hearing all about how the show was Amazingly Gay and the End of Queerbaiting and a Big Gay Romcom--and that's just not evident the first time you watch the first three episodes. Amazingly Gay gets a reasonable start, to be fair, and all of it is impossible to miss on rewatch. But the first time through, the End of Queerbaiting and a Big Gay Romcom feel like ridiculous oversells. And even with all the casually depicted queerness in the first three episodes, its amount of Amazingly Gay felt like not enough somehow? It might be partly that Stede presents as such a Camp Gay, and Thor Ragnarok made me a bit suspicious of Taika's handling of that type (in retrospect, that was almost certainly the fault of the MCU). That said, I was totally here for Taika, and he doesn't fully appear in the first three eps.
3. First OFMD pic in gallery
Nah, I'm not going all the way back for that. Here's the most recent still OFMD pic I've reblogged:
Tumblr media
4. Reasons you like OFMD I love OFMD for all the reasons I thought I wouldn't make it past episode 3. 😂
I love the pervasive, matter-of-fact presentation of queerness in all its rich variety. I love the Big Gay Romance, and all the other supporting queer romances. I love the Revenge family. I love their deep, multifarious, matter-of-fact diversity. I love that these characters exist within and sometimes rub up against a world that, like the one we know, is deeply antagonistic to them. I love that OFMD handles racism with the same gently brutal realism as it does anti-queerness. Those two elements of the show break me so hard, in such a good way. I also love the hard switch Rhys gives Stede between Bumbling Bumbler and Daddy in Charge, and I love how he adapts it as the situation calls for. (It's literally the biggest thing that convinced me to keep watching despite my misgivings. It takes 20 minutes into S1E1 to first see it, and then, damn.) I love Ed's wet cat energy. I love Stede's hair. I love Ed's hair. I love the Revenge. I love the shifting flashbacks and dream/story sequences. I love Izzy as an antagonist, and the painfully realistic toxic relationship between him and Ed that fuels the antagonism. And I love how Izzy constantly shoots himself in the foot. I love all the supporting male characters of color: Frenchie and Olu and Fang and Roach and Ivan, and how most of them are big guys and are so sexy and I just....yeah.
5. Favorite main character
Ed. I am Ed coded to the absolute max. And he's sexy AF, in all his guises.
6. Favorite supporting character(s)
I am both glad and not to see that "(s)." Could I choose just one? No. Since I am allowed to choose multiple, is it going to look like I'm naming the whole cast? Yep!
Top of the top: Frenchie.
Followed closely by Olu, Mary, Lucius, and Fang.
Honorable mentions: Roach, Nana, the Swede, Buttons, Evelyn, and Alma.
I also love the native community on shipwreck island, Hornberry, and Mister "We Could Have Made Magic." (Jim is too past-me coded for me to love, and Jackie doesn't rate for me yet; I suspect both will change with season 2.)
7. Songs that remind you of your fav characters
Halsey's The Lighthouse is my Stede abandons Ed at the dock theme. Elza Soares' Coracao do mar and Phoebe Bridgers' Motion Sickness also remind me of Ed. White Flag by Joseph for Stede. Here's my OFMD playlist:
8. Underrated character
Frenchie. Frenchie does not get his due in this fandom, and it's a damn shame.
9. Character you resonate most with
Ed, hands down.
10. Character you hated at first but grew to love
Buttons
11. Favorite duo
Frenchie and Olu
12. Scene that made you laugh
Frenchie naming the Pyramid Scheme
13. Scene that made you cry
The bathtub confession
14. Favorite episode
S1E5, The Best Revenge is Dressing Well
15. Favorite quote
"Have you ever been sketched?" --Lucius
16: Favorite line delivery
"Your face." --Roach

“You can think…for yourself too.”
The Erstwhile footsoldier gave a stiff nod to the zombie standing opposite him. The other undead - a woman in a tattered orange and white racing suit - briefly turned away to consider her response, the motion revealing a large bite wound on her neck.
“But you choose…not to.”
Again the soldier nodded. Visibly dissatisfied with this answer, the other zombie gave an angry growl.
“Why! Why not?”
The Erstwhile shook his spear with one rotting hand, and used the other to gesture to his fungus-adorned gambeson. “Loy-Loyalty,” it stuttered, in a rasping, clearly disused voice. “To the G-Golgari.”
“For…things?”
The Erstwhile squirmed uncomfortably in place. “S-Sure.”
“No…” The undead in the racing suit wistfully shook her head. “Be loyal for…more. More than that!”
The Erstwhile opened his mouth to say something, but paused at the last moment. He briefly considered his answer, then finally gave it, while narrowing his eyes at the other undead:
“Loyal to V-Vraska?”
“Well…” Now it was the other zombie’s turn to shift uncomfortably. “She’s good…to us! Zombies…”
“S-Still Golgari. What was the p-point of-”
“Principle!”
Though the Erstwhile no longer had eyes, he still rolled his head in a similar motion. “S-Sure,” he drawled. “Loyal to Vraska. Still k-keeping the clothes, though.”
The undead in the racing suit watched the soldier gesture with pride to his antiquated uniform, and struggled to suppress a grimace.
“Vraska was right…outmoded.”
Tumblr media
[Zombies can talk, right? At least on Ravnica? At least judging from the flavor text on Jarad’s Orders.
Also I never got the Elza Walker costume but still, sorry Claire, for all the times I accidentally steered you into zombies, lickers, etc. during my hardcore run.]

Snippet - I Hate Oyster Pâté- Forward, but Never Forget/XOXO
Tumblr media
Teatime with two chem-baronesses.
Forward, but Never Forget/XOXO on AO3
cw: mentions of sex work and child labor
Snippet:
In the evening, he has tea with Renata and Margot. The pair are working to merge Glasc Industries and the Vyx for a joint venture into Sextech. Beyond artificial limbs or prosthetics: neural interfaces designed to replace lost senses like sight, touch and taste. Organs grown in vitro. Body modification. Synthetic hormones.
A veritable smorgasbord of sensation.
Their collaboration is symbiotic; they're each other's muse. When he arrives, they greet him charmingly: Renata with a perfumed air-kiss along his unscarred cheek, Margot with a coy squeeze of his hand in both her own. They are dressed to kill in contrasting gowns of champagne silk and silver mesh.  On both their hands sit a pair of impressively-sized engagement rings.
Silco gives them his wry admiration. "My congratulations, ladies. Or is it condolences?"
"Tsk, Silco. You do tease."
Renata proffers her hand to flaunt the ring. Like most Undercity jewels, it is made of black diamonds from the mines. Piltovans hanker for white and colored gems. They are less opaque, thus easier to grade by color intensity. But black diamonds are rarer still—and because of their scarcity, fetch higher prices.
Silco would know.
As boys, he and Vander nearly suffocated during a tunnel collapse to collect broken diamond ore and haul it to the surface. They were taught to value black diamonds above everything else. Including—especially—their own lives. A sumpsnipe was as common as shit in the alleyside. A black diamond was priceless.
The stone is rough-cut, an iridescent blue vein running down the center. It is sharpened to a spike, and retractable like a claw. The design serves a dual purpose: a glittering proof of partnership and a hard-edged tool for self-protection. This one could puncture steel.
"Truly a work of art," Renata says. "Twelve miners died in the making of this jewel."
Margot giggles coyly. "I think they would celebrate the result."
"Blood is far less pedestrian than champagne."
"And leaves a sweeter aftertaste."
They laugh in ribald collusion.
To Silco, they resemble a pair of hyenas draped in designer silks—predacious and patently phony. Their laughter spills like blood through a tourniquet. On the rare occasion he finds himself in their company, he feels a sense of amused ennui that these creatures, a dark nadir to Piltover's bright apex, are his nation's crème de la crème, its end-product of proud aristocracy. How will it end? He can hazard a guess: with bloodlines as watery as the Pilt, and as poisonous, with dull-eyed socialites and blustering buffoons at the top of the slag heap, their children grown fat on imported decadences and their minds washed complacently clean of history by fashionable frippery.
That is Zaun's future if it forgets its roots. It is why he must cut deals and cut throats. Safeguard legacy against entropy.
Protect Jinx's future.
He settles back into his seat, eyelids drooping half-shut. "You'll forgive me if I don't ask for particulars on your engagement."
"That's a man for you," Renata scoffs. "Little is worth lingering on. But yes—you’re forgiven. And darling, I know you told me not to have supper prepared. But I took the liberty of having Elza fix oyster pâté. Your favorite, I recall."
"Divine," he lies.
"And tea, of course. You could use some tea."
"The day has been long."
"Ah, but your speech." Margot flutters her eyelashes. "I listened to the broadcast this afternoon. You were magnificent! So passionate!"
"That was the idea."
"You should likewise rouse my workers. Cheeky things—they deserve a proper tongue lashing! I'm still a-blush over the last’s misconduct."
"Photography is hardly a crime. But there is a time and place. Jinx’s bedroom is neither."
"I hope his impertinence can be forgiven."
"On the contrary. I was amused. Boy thought a lot of himself. I quite cured him of the notion." His small smile doesn't bother to hide its sharp-toothed secrets. "But is that why you sent him to me? To play Krampus to the intransigent?"
"You have such a fine hand for discipline."
"And a better eye for blackmail."
Margot colors up. Renata purses her lips.
Silence hangs heavy as a noose.
Silco cuts to the chase. "The new ordinance on brothels," he says. "Neither of you approve."
Renata raises a single, fastidiously plucked eyebrow.  "It’s less approval than mystification, Silco. Do prostitutes really need a guild?"
"It would increase tax revenue. And make life easier for the ordinary Zaunite."
Margot pouts girlish censure. "Surely, as procuress of the Vyx, my workers are exempt?"
"Regrettably: no."
"But Silco—"
He cuts her off with a gently-worded warning. "Your concerns are noted.  But let us keep things in perspective. Our priority remains Zaun. That means more than just Sextech and warm bodies. It means the safety of our citizens. And those who perform acts of service on their behalf."
"We're not safekeepers," Renata says archly. "We are businesspeople."
"Then it behooves you to take care of your investments. Before they become liabilities."
"Hence your endless ordinances."
"Exactly."
The cords on Renata's neck rise, as if she wants to spit in his face. Instead, she smiles sweetly. "How paternalistic."
Silco's own smile is slow, cold. "We each serve different mistresses. Mine is Zaun, and her welfare."
"Your one true love."
"Interminably."
She titters. "You’ll work yourself into an early grave, Silco."
"I'll have plenty of company."
"Good gracious!” Margot says. “What poor company the dead would make."
"Then liven it up while I'm breathing." Silco consults his pocketwatch. "If we've concluded our business..."
Margot nods demurely. "I'll ring for Elza to pour tea."
She starts to rise. Silco lays two fingertips on her wrist. He is still smiling. But his eyes have taken on a dark and deadly shine.
"Tea is sweeter when you pour it, Margot,” he says. “And incidentally, Renata—I hate oyster pâté."

Half a Love Song
There was a rumor going around town Madame Elza, a kooky fortune teller with a store off on the outskirts of town, could help you to find true love.
She said that if you listened to a certain love song at a certain time while thinking of your crush or your ideal boyfriend, he would appear at the Morris Lookout Point on the night of the full moon. Nobody ever believed her. They all assumed she was just a grifter in psychic clothing. But my friend Kana believed her - so much that she was willing to pay the $100 fee in hope of snagging a high school sweetheart.
I didn't want to go. But she begged me to. She didn't want to be alone. It didn't feel right for me from the start. As Madame Elza, with her thick red lipstick and messy chestnut hair guided us to a viewing room in the basement, I felt like I couldn't breathe. Couldn't think. Couldn't wait to get out of there. There was nothing right about this - yet Kana couldn't be convinced. She wanted a love of her own - a love that she desperately wanted that she believed Elza could give her.
The video was modern - couldn't have been more than a few years old - but the ballad reminded me of the syrupy sweet pop songs from the 50s and 60s my parents loved so much. And yet it didn't - I couldn't place my finger on it, but there was something off about it. Maybe it was the tinny sounds that hummed with every high note. Or the blonde singer who seems to beautiful to be real. Or how the screen would distort every now again, static giving way to images I couldn't begin to understand but it nonetheless left me uneasy. But Kana wasn't bothered by any of it. She sat there in wonder, and I wondered if she was thinking about what she'd do if this thing actually worked.
I couldn't watch the whole thing. The images and sounds were too much for me. I got through about half of it, pushing away thoughts of a tall, dark and handsome stranger before I looking down at my phone, texting my mom what I wanted for dinner before clicking on some random purse ad.
Once the video finished, Elza came back down to the viewing room, a scowl on her face. Before Kana could say anything, she thrusted a hundred dollar bill back into her hand."
"Get out of here and don't tell anyone else what you did today," she hissed under her breath. "And don't go anywhere near the lookout point on the full moon. You'll regret it if you do."
Before Kana could protest, Madame Elza all but through us out. Kana, despite getting her money back, was heartbroken. I was just glad to be out of there. That was something seriously wrong with that women and we were better off staying away from her. I thought that was the end of it.
I was wrong.
One week later, the full moon arrived. Kana called in tears, begging me to come with her to Lookout Point. Once again, I tried to tell her to let it go - even brought up that crazy lady's warning. But she wouldn't listen to me. She was desperate for that perfect love nothing would stop her. I refused to go and she accused me of being a bad friend before hanging up.
It didn't take long for the guilt to eat away at my conscious. With phone and flashlight in hand, I made my way up to the lookout point in hopes of helping Kana when she needed me most.
I'll never forget what I saw. Kana slouched down onto the ground, eyes wide with a vibrating terror, a swath of blood and bits covering the right side of her face. Beside, a beautiful man, sprawled on the ground, the entirety of his intestines spilled down stomach, soiling his crisp white dress shirt and tailored black pants.
In front of us was a figure, blacker than black, yet vibrated with a sinister energy not of this world, making it darker than ever. The only thing that wasn't black was the redness of its eye, and the blood and guts that covered it's right hands, sharp like knives, talons.
But that wasn't the worst part.
The figure...was half a man. One eye, one shoulder, one hand, and one leg.
I understood Madame Elza's warning.
Half a man.
Half a love song.

1995 Dub : Leonardo Forli
Trivia :
Premiere : 06/30/1952
Re-release : 02/04/1978
Premiere : 12/24/1995 (TV dubbing)
There are two Brazilian Portuguese dubbings of this film. The first from 1951 and the second from 1995.
The first dubbing is the official dubbing and is available on all home video releases.
The recording of the 1951 dub only took 4 months. Gilberto Souto (the director, translator, and supervisor) arrived in Brazil on 04/21/1951 and returned to the USA on 08/02/1951.
On the 2000 U.K. DVD release, the Brazilian Portuguese 1951 credits are included but there are errors. Mattinhos is credited as "Estevam Correa Mattos" (which is his real name) as the White Rabbit. The Cheshire Cat was credited to José Vasconcellos, but in reality, he was voiced by Jorge Goulart. Goulart sued Disney in 1996 for royalties of his voice being used on the home video releases of Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland. The King of Hearts is credited to João Dias Lopes, which is the real name of Germano. José Vasconcellos is also credited to the Mother Oyster, but in reality, she was voiced by Apollo Corrêa.
The second dubbing was done for the SBT television network for Christmas 1995 and was only shown on TV. This dubbing is not included on any home media release.
In the second dubbing, only one song was dubbed. That song being "I'm Late." This extract was treated as spoken dialogue and was dubbed. All of the other songs were in English with Brazilian Portuguese subtitles.

Met Opera 2023-24 Season Announcement: Full Reactions
alright y’all. it’s finally out and here are my reactions:
so i already knew that there wouldn’t be that many operas this season (thank you whoever on reddit figured that out yesterday), but it’s still kinda disappointing to see only 18 operas and only 9 hds, even though that’s still a 50% rate. so:
ALDEN BALLO IS BACK IN THE HOUSE FUCK YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH BOY
castronovo as gustavo YES PLEASE. rest of the cast looks good too, sorry this isn’t an hd (but really could it ever replicate the magic of the 2012 hd?)
oh hi quinn kelsey role debut as anckarström
no strong feelings about bohème except that i was relieved to see that my prediction it would be hd’d this season was incorrect. we have enough bohème at home.
CARMEN NEW PROD NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I HATE IT THE LAST PRODUCTION WAS GOLD. also like if you’re gonna do a production about human trafficking you have to be VERY careful.
also: JOYCE IS NOT CARMEN????????? huh. okay. not super familiar with the mezzo who IS carmen in the first run so this’ll be exciting. beczala/blue/ketelsen makes for a killer cast tho.
i still think that having dead man walking as the opening night gala is SO fucking funny. like it is not an opera that screams “gala occasion”. (disclaimer: have never seen it). can’t wait to see the opera and that AMAZEBALLS cast.
FIRE SHUT UP IN MY BONES IS BACK!!!!!!!! i hope it becomes part of the regular rep
I CANNOT WAIT TO DISCOVER FLORENCIA AND THAT CAST LOOKS FIRE AND PROPS TO THE MET FOR DOING A SPANISH LANGUAGE OPERA. that is all. @leporellian you will at last be vindicated.
the hours reunion tour reminds me i need to find the pirate video lol
FORZA FORZA FORZA!!!!!! with LISE DAVIDSEN!!!!! and some other cool people too. can’t wait to see this production
also congrats on getting a solo recital lise <3
could not care less about madama butterfly except to say congrats to jonathan tetelman (my beloved) for getting TWO MET HDS in his debut season!!! but why is butterfly getting HDd with a white soprano AGAIN????????? (also HI ASMIK GRIGORIAN MET DEBUT!!!)
don’t care about the holiday magic flute either but why is villazon papageno AGAIN???
okay that nabucco cast looks pretty dope so i don’t mind this one getting hd’d again (we get an ACTUAL baritone this time)
el niño looks intriguing!!! and JULIA BULLOCK MET DEBUT FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!! but y no hd met :/
orfeo ed euridice!!!!!!!! FUCK YES!!!!!! i love this show and here’s a great cast!!!!! (no hd tho) mixed feelings re: countertenor orfeo because on the one hand: mezzo orfeo adds gayness. on the other hand: anthony roth costanzo.
BERNHEIM/SIERRA ROMÉO AND IT IS AN HD!!!!!!!!! FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!! also supporting cast looks sweet (WILL LIVERMAN AS MERCUTIO!!!!!!!)
BLUE/TETELMAN RONDINE AND IT IS AN HD!!!!!!!!! FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and it is THAT ICONIC PRODUCTION!!!!!!!!!!!!! @rayatii @smile-at-the-stars
i thought it would be lise davidsen as elisabeth in tannhäuser but elza van den heever is NOT a downgrade!!!!!! rest of the cast looks cool too (thank god no groissböck)
turandot. again. and the wiki wasn’t even right about sondra. i don’t care. at least no hd for this show.
THE MALCOLM X OPERA IS COMING AND I AM SO EXCITED I CANNOT WAIT TO DISCOVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hds are dead man walking (october 21), malcolm x (november 18), florencia en el amazonas (december 9), nabucco (january 6), carmen (january 27), la forza del destino (march 9), roméo et juliette (march 23), la rondine (april 20), and madama butterfly (may 11)
all in all i have to say: for the most part, despite being a smaller-scale and shorter season,
IT IS PRETTY FUCKIN COOL AND I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tumblr media
9: White Mage decides she’s bored of the back row.
Tumblr media
8: Seated lady, surrounded by unspecific fancy things.

Tumblr media
6: Yew is making some bad choices, but she has a fantastic hat.
Tumblr media
5: This dragon may be suitable for a petting zoo.
Tumblr media
4: At heart, Revya is really a kind and soft-spoken person.
Tumblr media
3: Time to put on some soft shirts and indulge in the gentlest forehead touch.

Chapter 28 in 2 parts because Tumblr is stupid! This is part 1!
@gyubby99
After a few minutes, elsa rode the horse. A glacier came into view and Elsas eyes lit up. "Of course.... glaciers are rivers of ice," Elsa stated. "Attohallan is frozen,"
Ah ah ah ahhhhhhhhh
"I hear you. And I'm coming," Elsa stated as she heard the voice. As Elsa rode closer to Attohallan, she felt as if she was trembling. Not from the cold, or her broken heart, but from something else. Something about this place felt so familliar to her and she couldn't quite figure out what it was yet. She could sense the voice, sense the presence of the being it came from. It felt friendly, like she knew who it was deep inside of herself.
Elsa arrived to Attohallan, bowing to the water horse as it dissapeared into the water. Elsa felt truly at home here. Elsa had always been one to keep secrets inside of herself. As she walked into Attohallan, she could feel them start to dissipate. As if every secret she's ever held was known here. Thus place had secrets too... the only difference was that it didn't have to hide. "Show yourself!" Elsa shouted into the cave like structure. "I've come here to meet you!" She shouted. Is this what Elsa had been looking for her whole life? She felt as if that was the case... as Elsa was about to yell out again she was interrupted. "Show yourself!" Came a man's voice from behind her. Elsa turned around, and there was Jack right there behind her. "Jack? What are you doing here?" Elsa asked confused. "I flew away... but then I saw you enter thus place... just because we're not together doesn't mean I dont want to see you become your true self. I still love you." Jack explained. He glanced at elzas hand. The ring was placed on it. He didn't say anything.
Ah ah ahhh ahhhhh
Elsa and Jack turned before running to where they heard the voice. "How you doin?" Jack asked as he flew beside Elsa. She smiled. "I've never felt so certain before. All my life I've been torn between everything. Now I feel like I here for a reason. Maybe the reason I was born," Elsa replied as she ran. The two got to an opening and Elsa jumped from one ice pillar to another as Jack flew across. Elsa broke through a wall of ice inside, it looked as if it had been blocked off. "Show yourself!" Elsa shouted again. "We've come so far to meet you!" Elsa knew. This was the answer she's been looking for all her life. The two got to an entrance, rlsa used her powers to create the ice diamonds again. Icicles flew around her, showing her the 4 spirits. A snowflake was created on the floor, and when Elsa stepped into the middle, the room lut up. "Elsa... you are the fifth spirit!" Jack yelled with a giant smile. Elsas dress changed. It was white now, and her cape flowed behind her.
