Silas Granger has found himself in a dilemma. At 17, he’s just blown his last chance to get his act together and he faces military boarding school. He throws some clothes in a backpack and heads upstate to Boulder to seek a life of his own.

Digory didn’t think much on making choices. The whole world would be over when his mother died anyhow.

Of course, this didn’t keep him from being curious or adventurous. It was exciting to meet new people, exciting to go exploring and to speculate about whatever mischief his Uncle Andrew was up to. Being a lively young boy was perhaps the best distraction from being a boy about to lose his mother.

Going after Polly was so obviously right that it might as well not have been a choice at all. What else could he do? It was easy to be righteous in the face of an evil old magician who said things like "Ours is a high and lonely destiny."

Yet once they were there in that rich, in-between place, with all the worlds there were splayed out before them— ((Make your choice, adventurous stranger)) Well. What sort of lively young boy would he be if he turned back now?

Digory could feel the bell’s magic ((strike the bell and bide the danger)) beginning to work on him. There was no use in resisting. He felt tendrils of magic sinking deep beneath his skin, laying claim to any free will he’d ever had. He said as much to Polly, but she wasn’t listening.

Polly said ((or wonder till it drives you mad)) that he looked exactly like his uncle when he said that.

Jadis’s whole world had ended. Everyone had died, and she’d just gone to sleep. She might have stayed sleeping forever if he hadn’t woken her. Sitting outside his mother’s sickroom, Digory wondered ((what would have followed if you had)) if that was really so shocking. Hadn’t he been preparing for just such an end? Were Charn and Mabel Kirke so different?

Narnia was not an end. It was a beginning.

And face to face with the Lion, Digory was forced to admit that the bell had not been magic. Nothing had caused him to strike it. Make your choice, the writing had said. Digory had chosen. 

I’ve spoiled everything. There’s no chance of getting anything for mother now.

The enormous Lion asked him, "Son of Adam, are you ready to undo the wrong that you have done?" and Digory sputtered his maybes.

"I asked, are you ready?" the Lion said again.

At that very moment, an ultimatum flashed through Digory’s mind. If I salvage your beginning, will you prevent my end? If make amends, will you save my mother? He thought of refusing, of holding his choice hostage until his future was secure. Could the Lion be bargained with? Could Digory twist his arm, as he'd twisted Polly's?

But what Digory said was, "Yes."

Jadis conjured such lovely visions of the future. His mother's face would lose its gray sheen and she would say, Why, I'm beginning to feel stronger. There would be no more morphia, no more of the terrible drawn look about her when she slept. She would rise from her sickbed, vibrant and whole ((Come in by the gold gates or not at all)) rise and walk to the door and fling it open and then Digory would go running into her arms. 

He gasped as though he'd been mortally wounded. Perhaps he had been in a way. After all, had the gate not said ((take my fruit for others or forbear))? 

Jadis ((for those who steal and those who climb my wall)) called Digory the Lion's slave. Years later, he would think back over all that those words implied. The Witch seemed to think that Digory had no will, if he was willing to subordinate himself to Aslan.

But was it not Aslan who made Digory realize his own culpability ((shall find their heart's desire and find despair)), and in the same breath gave him a way to repair it? Had not Aslan given his will back to him?

And at the foot of the tree, Aslan gave Digory his future back as well. 

He was old, but now he is young again, watching as the stars fall headlong across the black of the world-that-was. The world is ending at last, but Digory does not fear such things any longer.

#'let's get some half-finished stuff done and posted before the Inklings Challenge' challenge #i'm not 100% satisfied with this but I quite like all the concepts. we'll see #i actually have a bunch of these type of character study things from back in the day that i'd like to keep revisiting #anyway. i have always always always been fascinated by the writing on the bell #curiosity would totally be MY fatal flaw in a fairytale/myth so i can absolutely see where Digory is coming from #like of course he has to strike the bell. of course #but the way it gets frames in relation to Choice and Will and Responsibility is just really cool #a neat counterpoint to all the stories of those overcome by curiosity whom the narrative justifies #it was your fault. you need to own that #curiosity for its own sake is not inherantly a good thing #and then of course i can't write about Digory without pulling in the dymanic with his mom's impending death #that is by far the most compelling aspect of MN it is the linchpin of the whole thing #so yeah #founded in song #the magician's nephew no longer #narnia #leah stories #pontifications and creations

A HUGE update to the Fatal Flaws Legacy Challenge, I've done an entire gen since the last update I did! So here they are!

Our lovely gen six heir was VERY difficult, I tried putting him through uni but the housing was an issue and I missed a couple of the goals by accident so it was a bit of a stressful one, but I do love Quartz a lot and he's definitely interesting.

Get married and have kids with a materialistic sim as a YA ✅

Lvl 10 Business Career ✅

Divorce spouse and lose everything ✅

Quit job and move out to an empty lot with nothing ✅

Reach Level 10 of another career ✅

Have your kid move in with you when you can support them ✅

Quartz did have a part time job as a teen for maybe a week because I completely forgot, I also forgot to complete the Goal Orientated aspiration as a teen, BUT Quartz did go on a family vacation to Mt. K and now lives there!

The angle I went with their storyline was essentially high school sweethearts gone wrong, they naturally argued all the time so I decided that the story was a couple of teens who should've have moved in together during college because it just all went wrong. Trinity is an absolutely lovely sim so I kind of framed it with Quartz being the bad guy, so he deserved being kicked out with nothing, because he cared more about ambition than family.

I don't have any screenshots unfortunately but after the divorce, Quartz went back to uni to study Psychology, but actually in a dorm instead of the housing I renovated for them last time, and he got a job as a Professor! He got to level 10 pretty quickly and I was able to build him a good little house, not big enough to fulfil his Mansion Baron aspiration but it's pretty and functional!

Next, we met Naomi! It didn't say anything about new relationships after the divorce but I've never really done that before so I wanted Quartz to find someone new and he did! Naomi is the sweetest, I did randomise her traits because I didn't want her to be non-committal but she's honestly one of my favourite generation love interests!

Finally, the next gen! Amber is the the cutest, so far I have zero ideas for her storyline to go alongside the rules but she's doing great, I didn't get to see her grow up much of course because Trinity had custody but she's now living with Quartz and Naomi and they all get along well.

And we're all caught up! I'm so excited that I'm reaching the end of this legacy, I absolutely love playing this and I can't wait to do the evil gen and get to play with an occult sim!

ohh thank you! loads of questions!! i wrote loadsss so plenty under the read more!

3, What is your OC's fatal flaw? Are they aware of this flaw?

ohh!!! i answered a similar ask a while ago here but Celias greatest flaw is inaction/cowardice. whether this is fatal is complicated because it does kill her in the end and ruin her life but is also is what keeps her and her family alive.

Celia, you see, does not accept the deaths of her family as an acceptable outcome to anything. no matter what benefits a strategy that ends up with even one of the people she cares about dying to likely to it is unthinkable to her to use that strategy.

this both means [post 18] everyone she loves stays alive- but it also means they are still trapped in a shit situation because the risk of breaking out causing death is to high for her to even try.

i would says shes semi- aware of it- She often wonders what would have happened if she did try and break out, take control, or similar, but reassures herself with how dangerous that possibility could be.

properly going into jjbs stuff here but its why she contrasts so much with Giorno and in fact is in many ways a mirror to Diovalo, Shes a coward who is terrified of losing the power she has now, and cannot use the lives of those she cares about as pawns or even just lives to risk, and remains stuck where she is because shes terrified of the consequences of trying to break out. shame she dies during the events of part five in the background she would have hated Giorno with a passion[e. lol] she would have both hated that he took the risks and succeeded [proving her a coward] but also would have been smug that his teammates died [proving her right]

8,Would your OC ostensibly be able to get away with murder?

Yes. she has- many times. not even all of them were covered up by Cecio! legally 'Celia' is dead and she adopted a new identity, but so few people want to risk fucking with her that they just ignore it. not to mention that unless shes going out of her way to get caught, little evidence will be found even if everyone knows she did it, and if she wanted someone to just up and disappear then no-one ever finds out where they went [unless they are smart enough to know which hospital Conficcare works at and do a dna test on all of the donated organs & blood]

12, Is your OC self-destructive? In what ways?

ohhh this is interesting. Because Celia is very self destructive in a vacuum but at the same time when she has people relying on her, she has to be very careful in the way she self destructs. like she used to smoke a bit [its how the fags cigarettes and lighter got in her old coat in you hurt the ones that love you. but that would have to be peer pressure because given her constant need for physically strength and speed she would not smoke regularly] i think she would occasionally abuse alcohol, but again that impairs her judgement and she could only do so when shes alone and feeling really sorry for herself.

there is one way she is incredibly self destructive though: fighting. in another ask i say that she mainly uses her body to fight, punching and kicking and using a mishmash of martial arts. this is because not only is she an adrenaline junky, but because it offers a physical punishment she thinks she deserves. her & Tesoros friendship started with her begging him to teach her how to fight propa and their 'sparring' often was just him beating her until she finally learned how to fight back. Celia was in the middle off all the bundles and scraps and fights because it not only made her feel alive, but made her suffer in a way she though she deserved/would make her better.

even as shes much older and more responsible, she loves a good fight, and especially will respect people who stand their own against her. as Celia belongs to the 'old school' criminals from before stands, she has a level of distaste for the new kids on the blocks who rely to heavily on their stands, and will seek out opponents to fight and also make into better fighters.

17, What is the worst thing you have put your OC through story-wise?

there are so many contenders here. making her watch her mother slowly die and then force her to step up into the parental role. making her be the one who steps up and takes the burden of becoming the leader- of being the one who makes the decisions and lives with that guilt. making her work so hard to give Cecio the opportunity to get out and yet she has to watch as he dives even deeper into crime... making her bear the brunt of the hate about the decision to have Rametto join another group- a choice she had no part in.

but i think the real worst thing is the fact that she dies shortly before change is enacted- dies before she has finally played it safe enough to get out. Celia dies to save her family, dies in whoever is left's place after watching her two best friends die, the only two people who have stood beside her since she was 11. Celia dies without knowing whats going to happen to Rametto or Amelia or Cecio, she dies, finally making a decision to risk her life, but in truth dying the same way she lived, doing everything she can to increase the chances of survival of those she loves, by putting her life on the line.

Meet Cam, the founder of my new fatal flaws legacy challenge. She may be mean, but she has a soft side, shown in how much she adores her dog Annie. As a teen, she couldn't handle the stress of living with her snobby strict parents any more and ran away with her dog to Brindleton Bay. Living out of a sleeping bag, she spends her time dodging calls from the principal, fishing for her dinner, and grinding at her job in retail to save up enough money to build a house for her and Annie. Stay tuned to see as Cam grows up and watch to see if she will sink or swim in building an independent life for herself.

October 10, 2022 - Monday | Fall Studying Challenge 1/30

No class today because of Indigenous Peoples’ Day! I filled in some days I missed in my planner, finished my first embroidery project (for the most part), did some journaling, and found a new lecture series to listen to. I also ate some mint choco Milano cookies my beloved 🍪💓

Day 1: What is your major/What do you study?

In college I studied biology (she’s my bias), and also minored in political science… nowadays im teaching. In terms of my own studying, I love languages - Arabic, Spanish, Bangla, and Korean are the ones that I know and one of my dreams is to achieve fluency in all 5 languages 💕 I signed up for some arabic + islamic studies courses for next semester that start in the January so I’m excited for those! Esp since Arabic is my most neglected language fhdjdj I lost so much fluency in it I haven’t touched it since 2009 but hopefully this class helps!Oh! I also I love art so that’s also something I post abt and ‘study’ I suppose. As you can see tho I am an incoherent mess😌 there’s a reason my blog title is ‘try everything’ 😭

just read the post about the new book and i’m pretty sure this is about his grudges. he’s going to leave tartarus with bob and will, aka begin a new phase his life, and he’ll leave behind any past grudges he still has, things that held him back from moving on.

Sooo I found a loophole to make Malachite and Kaylin technically coworkers...

GUESS WHO BOUGHT A VETS. I renovated one of the townie houses into a vet! Yeah I double checked and literally none of Malachite's doctor coworkers would work to marry, they're all old so this is a fun solution!

In even more fun news, they got married!

This is probably the prettiest wedding screenie I have ever taken. They also just aged up!

All of this living on a farm, Malachite's doctor career, the new vets, I completely forgot that we need an heir! I'm desperately hoping for a girl because I've been planning a specific sim and colour scheme for a while but we shall see (or we shall nudge the odds in one direction with strawberries and pop music perhaps...). Kaylin isn't pregnant yet because I have the overhaul mod which does make that harder but I definitely need to get a move on with the next gen
