That post about how Angeal is willing to steal from people who are poorer than Genesis's family made me remember a theory I bombarded @birdblacksocialclub with ages ago, so I want to have a little ramble about it here.

Angeal says he would not steal from the trees belonging to Genesis's (foster) family because they're friends. it would be dishonourable to steal from your friend. But I have another theory about where this line of thinking came from other than Angeal's sense of honour.

One of the few things we know about Genesis's foster parents is that they were reporting back to Shinra, albeit they later chose to lie to them when they 'got attached' to him. Notably, Gillian (Angeal's mother) chose not to and refused to let Shinra anywhere near Angeal save for the existing surveilling that was being done in Banora. This makes total sense, she tried to leg it with him as a baby and was caught, so she clearly didn't want Shinra involved with Angeal in a big way and refuses to acknowledge anything about her life in the Jenova project.

Genesis and Angeal are childhood besties. It's likely they were in and out of each others pockets, but the economic difference between them had to mean that Genesis was more likely to want to give him things. Unfortunately, those things came via his foster parents and by extension, Shinra - the very company Angeal's mother is trying to get to leave him alone to live out his life relatively quietly.

My bet is that Gillian told tiny Angeal that he shouldn't take things from Genesis, that it isn't honourable, that it was considered charity and they had some pride and he internalised that as not taking things from his friend. From his perspective, the issue is that they're friends and it's a matter of respect and pride between them.

From Gillian's? It's trying to make sure

a) Angeal is not in Shinra's debt due to Genesis not understanding where his foster parents loyalties once lay and he's more likely to stop offering if Angeal is the one to shut it down than if she does

b) instilling the idea that Angeal shouldn't take things from people in power because it might land him in some trouble some day, especially if she's wary of someone of the suited variety showing up one day

and c) that said foster parents don't see enough of Angeal to ever include him in their observations because she knows they're not normal kids

(those blueprints for the copy tech were archived with Project G, they absolutely knew when they were kids that they had some abilities, just not enough as to be as sure a bet as Sephiroth was)

It might have been about honour for Angeal but I think it probably started as a way to try and keep him away from Shinra's scope. At least, until the war kicked off and he signed up anyway.

Cloud Strife Really Wants to Hold Your Hand

You noticed your boyfriend acting odd. He'd look at you, look away, look at his hand and flex his fingers, then look back at you again, his spiky hair falling to hide his eyes every time.

He seemes nervous when he saw you approach, and even more so when you sat down next to him. The awkward silence was deafening. There he went again, flexing his fingers into a fist then relaxing them. The sounds his glove made were making your eye twitch.

"Are you hurt?" You asked, putting your hand on top of his. This startled the warrior and he looked at you wide eyed and confused. "You keep doing that with your hand. I was wondering if you hurt it somehow."

"Ah. No, nothing like that. My hand is fine. I just... wanted to..." Cloud's words trailed off as he shifted his hand, palm pressing into yours and intertwining your fingers together. "Just that."

You bit your inner cheek to stop yourself from laughing, "Wanted to hold my hand? Cloud you could have asked. We are dating you know."

He nodded and looked down at your joined hands, his face reddening with a blush. "I'll keep that in mind for next time." It was then that you concluded that your boyfriend was as adorable as he was badass.

Zack Fair:

There was something ethereal about you today. That was saying a lot given any room you walked into, you were instantly the prettiest, but there was something different that had him admiring you for longer than usual. Was it the way the sunlight reflected off your perfect features? Or was it the dress Madam M had dressed you in, stating it was for the extra round of trouble Cloud had done through? Either way he didn’t think he would be looking away anytime soon, and it seemed like you had just noticed.

“Zack, are you okay?”

Zack just shook his head.

“You’re so beautiful, you know that right?”

Sephiroth:

He knew a lot of things. He knew battle, deception, the information held within the livestream, his birth, he knew it all, but for some reason your beauty was always unfathomable to him. Even before his awakening at Nibelheim, the thought that you were some sort of extraterrestrial being that had been smitten with him and decided to stay childishly plagued his mind. Before then if that had been reality, he would have been considered lucky, but now he knew you two were a perfect match, two perfect rulers destined for one another. Sephiroth felt especially confident this was the case as he fixated his gaze on your figure, studying your otherworldly features.

“Our love is blessed by the fates.”

Cloud Strife:

Cloud had always been the tough guy in any situation, whether it be for his aesthetic or not was up for debate. However one thing that wasn’t up for debate was the way he always looked at you. If his eyes weren’t filled with love, worry, or desire, they always held some sort of awe. The unrealisticness of your beauty never ceased to make him amazed. So when you ask him for his opinion on how looked in the dress Madam M had forced you into, please don’t be offended at his lack of words as there are no words to describe how beautiful you are.

“How does it look, Cloud?”

“It looks… nice.”

Vincent Valentine:

“You’re beautiful.”

It was always something Vincent always told you everyday without fail. You would wake up snuggled to his form, only to be greeted by Vincent’s eyes and words of praise. Other days you would be stared at by Chaos, a being simply fixated on your presence. And some days when he said it, it felt like he was looking deeper, looking at your soul and the very making of your essence.

Cloud, Vincent, Sephiroth realizing their darling has been feeling jealous lately because of a close friend/worker who has been obviously flirting with them despite knowing they are taken. What is their response when this person confesses to them and kisses them and their darling witnessed everything before running off to their home and locking them out. How would they prove that they have no feelings towards this person? How would they prove their loyalty?

Vincent: He's been patient with this insistent admirer for a while. Although they're friendly, Vincent had firmly stated his unavailability. The flirting paused momentarily, but then they later came clean about their feelings towards him. He was about to sigh and shake his head at their confession, but then they surprised him by kissing him. He would quickly push them off before his eyes met those of his darling. He would dart off after his darling, calling their name.

He would immediately declare his love for them, even if they shrugged him off, and tell them there is NOTHING that will take him away from them. After that, he would actually give them time to themselves, so they can process the situation and realize things weren't what it seemed. He also needs that time himself to cool off from recent events. Vincent might have mutual friends check in on them, making sure they're safe. When the fateful day comes, he'd be there, waiting for his darling so their confrontation would be underway.

Sephiroth: He hasn't been giving this insistent admirer much attention, if any at all, for the longest, even before they started flirting with him. He just didn't care for their personality and figured they must be one of his annoying fans from the Silver Elite. He failed to pick up on their flirtation for a while, but once he did, he became curt and impatient, having no time for their nonsense. They very know well Sephiroth has a darling. When they tried to confess to him, he was already preparing to leave. But just as he was about to go, they grabbed him and kissed him. He had to collect his bearings after an unwanted kiss almost triggered his typical battle mode. When he saw his darling standing there, his heart nearly stopped, and he knew he had to make things right. He resisted the urge to use his Masamune against the admirer because his love for his darling was stronger than his hatred for them. When he tried to reach out to his darling, the rejection would sting him deeply.

To prove his loyalty, he would constantly check up on his darling himself. Calling them, sending texts, leaves traces of the black feathers from his wings around their home. In his more frequent dark moods, he even considered bringing the admirer's head back to the darling's footstep. Over time, he felt helpless in the face of the stressful conflict with his darling, and eventually distanced himself from them and everything else. But thankfully, time healed the wound for the darling, and they would come to comfort him after having their confrontation.

Cloud: Like Sephiroth, he wouldn't pay too much attention to the admirer at first, only tolerating their antics because they are a good friend outside of the unwanted flirting. At one point, he started to even think this admirer was simply messing with him, since it's already so obvious that Cloud is dedicated to his darling. Cloud even took their love confession as a joke at first, simply shrugging his shoulders and muttering a "whatever". When he saw his darling behind the admirer, his eyes would soften, but then he was caught off guard as the admirer suddenly kissed him. He would be put in a confused trance as his darling ran out of the room. He would ignore the admirer and take some time to himself figuring out what happened. Once he fully processed the situation, guilt would overtake him. He should've realized what his admirer really wanted. He should've taken a stronger stance.

He would consult his other friends who are neutral third parties to do about this situation. He would be still be afraid to confront his darling, so it would be a long time. Meanwhile, his friends would occasionally check up on the darling, leaving somewhat subtle hints that Cloud is staying loyal to them. And Cloud himself would secretly check up on them as he slowly became more at ease, unintentionally leaving hints of presence around them. Eventually, his own darling would confront him, expressing their feelings and coming to realize Cloud only had eyes for them. They acknowledged their issues, committed to fixing them, and rebuilt trust..

Gloomy, edgy boys getting there and their darling's heartbroken makes me so sad... I think Vincent is obviously the most mature, so I think he would have a better response, at least compared to Sephy and Cloud.

What Kind of Outfits Would The First Class Trio Look Very Nice In?

Angeal:

In my humble opinion, Angeal would look best in outfits that showcase his arms. Like have you seen this dude's biceps, triceps, and forearms?

I headcanon him as the most svelte out of the trio, which makes him a very deceptive opponent. (Do not underestimate this man in combat just because he looks slimmer than the others!)

Anyways, he'd slay the fuck out of CROP TOPS! If Sephiroth can slay the "tits out" look, slaying in crop tops is definitely an area where Genesis would shine best.

A low grumble of approval made your belly vibrate. His head was laying down on your stomach as you were sat on the headboard of the bed, your legs placed by his sides as he had his arms hugging your middle part.

He hugged you as if you were about to leave the room ( which was indeed, not happening ). His eyes were closed and his breathing was serene too, taking the chance to play with his hair meanwhile.

You were both winding down from the day, his hair still a bit damp from the shower he had just taken. And god did he look cute all sleepy on your belly.

You smiled, enjoying one of the very few moments Cloud would let you see his soft side.

He looked at you over where his head was laying on your chest, pointing out how pretty you looked when you smiled. God he is such a dork.

Sephiroth

Silence fell over your cute and tidied up room, Sephiroth's best music to listen to.

Your cheek met his collarbone, he was sat on your headboard as he kept you close to him with both of his arms. One by the back of your knees and the other on your back.

His heartbeat made you almost fall asleep by it's lulling trap, and you were sure you wouldn't last any longer either way.

Quiet nights like this before sleep were your absolute favourite and you could tell by the way he spoke to you with such honey bathed words that he enjoyed it quite as good as you.

SOLDIER Moments That Became Memes

• The video of Genesis, Angeal, Sephiroth and some other SOLDIERs singing We Are Young by FUN at a function, but instead they're singing "we are drunk"

• The time someone filmed Sephiroth chasing Genesis and Angeal around the SOLDIER floor with a bug zapper. The person filming goes "when the devil can't reach you, he sends Sephiroth."

• A clip from the live stream Sephiroth, Genesis and Angeal did together. They all piled onto each other's laps in the same office chair. Angeal went "Wow this is so sturdy!" before the chair broke violently and threw them on the floor.

• The blurry video Zack filmed at a bar, where Genesis is seen stalking up to the attractive bartender.

Zack: There goes GeneRIZZ Rhapsodoesn't have a date.

• The video Genesis filmed at the park. Sephiroth is pulling Zack's legs while Angeal tugs at the stick Zack has between his teeth and he's going "LEAVE IT! LEAVE IT!"

• Video: The camera zooms in on a computer screen opened to an article. The headline reads "Why Fans Are In Love With Sephiroth's Goth Musician Fashion"

The camera zooms out and Genesis and Angeal are on the floor dying of laughter. Then the camera points to Sephiroth sitting on the couch looking sour.

• At a QnA panel when Angeal and Genesis decided to play a prank on Sephiroth. They changed his ringtone. It was Yeah - Usher. What followed was 3 minutes of Sephiroth desperately trying to turn his phone off while Angeal, Genesis and the entire room die of laughter.

• Zack filming a short, yellow Chocobo, then panning the camera to Cloud, then back to the Chocobo, then back to Cloud.

Cloud: Fuck you

Zack: I'm SORRY

• *Sephiroth films himself, looking directly into the camera*

Sephiroth: It says here that LOVELESS, the music cancelled.

Hey there, dear anon! Thank you so much for your request. <3 I know it took me a while to finish these but I hope you enjoy the headcanons nevertheless.

Characters: Genesis Rhapsodos, Sephiroth

General relationship HCs (gn!reader)

Genesis Rhapsodos

One might not expect it but Genesis is a hopeless romantic at heart. He usually hides it quite well but once you get closer to him it’s obvious how much all of this really means to him. He often brings you flowers from Aerith or leaves little notes for you to find, for example when he has to leave the house before you wake up.

Whenever you compliment him, he’s putty in your hands immediately. Genesis might often act like he doesn’t care what others think about him but deep down, he really craves these words of affirmation – especially since he’ll probably never stop seeing himself as a monster or a failed experiment. It’s also so very easy to fluster him with genuine compliments, though he tries his best not to let it show.

Aside from Angeal and Sephiroth, you’re the only one he trusts enough to show his true self. Around others, he hides behind a mask of cockiness, even arrogance, carefully locking away his feelings and struggles, but around you, he doesn’t have to fake anything. He can be himself, without having to fear any judgement from you, and that alone is enough to make him fall in love with you again every single day.

He’s not one to get jealous easily since he trusts you and knows that you would never betray him like that. But he still hates when others are clearly trying to flirt with you, especially if you’re obviously uncomfortable with the whole situation. It makes his blood boil when others are unable to respect your boundaries, and in moments like that, he definitely won’t hesitate to step in.

Of course, his SOLDIER duties keep him more than busy, and he sometimes has to be away from you for days, if not weeks, but Genesis makes sure to contact you at least once a day, not only because he misses you but also to show that you don’t have to worry about him. He doesn’t always have the time to call you though, so sometimes he just sends a quick text (which includes at least one quote from Loveless as well as some variation of I love you).

Sephiroth

Sephiroth isn’t someone to fall head over heels in love with someone or to dive head first into a relationship. He’s definitely hesitant, even repulsing at first, and tries to push you away, both because he feels like he’s not what you need and because he’s just so used to being alone. But once you have him, Sephiroth is yours forever. 

He’s not overly affectionate, in the sense that he rarely initiates cuddles or kisses himself but he would never deny you any affection if you asked for it, especially since he soon realizes how nice it feels to just hold you close for a while. There’s something so calming and peaceful about cuddling with you, and although he’d probably never admit it, he really craves these feelings. However, PDA is something he most likely never gets used to. 

There’s absolutely nothing Sephiroth wouldn’t do to keep you safe and sound. He knows first-hand how dangerous and awful the world can be, and he tries everything in his power to keep you safe from all harm. And should someone dare to lay a hand on you, Sephiroth won’t hesitate to make them pay for it. He fiercely protects the people he loves, no ifs, no buts – even if he had to risk his own life in the process.

You’re one of the few people he trusts with his whole heart. When he’s around you, he doesn’t have to pretend to be something he isn’t, and that’s one of the main reasons why he feels so comfortable in your presence. You know him – the real him – and you accept him just the way he is, his flaws and quirks included, and he loves you all the more for that. 

However, being in a relationship with Sephiroth isn’t all sunshine and flowers. No matter how much he loves you, there will always be situations where he still pushes you away, for example when you get into an argument and he feels like he needs to protect you from himself. In moments like this, patience is key – sooner or later, he will come to you to apologize but until then, it’s best to give him some space.

I always have to wonder where they begin and Genesis ends—Lazard took on parts of Angeal's mind, not just his body, after all. How much autonomy do these boys have over themselves? How much agency did they have in choosing to take on those damned genes? Were they lied to? Genesis was, over and over again. Was being shown Genesis' decay enough to turn them against the hand that fed and enhanced them?

They must have had so much trust and faith in Genesis to follow him to world's end. They knew exactly what they were up against: SHINRA; SOLDIER; the most cruel weapons and propaganda machines man had ever conceived.

Brothers killing brothers. This was the War of Beasts prophecy warned Him about, and it came with blood, and blood, and blood. The beginning of the end.

By the time that white decay set in, would there be anything left of the SECONDs and THIRDs that used to be? Or would what little remained have rotted away, replaced by panic and fear and obedience to the only goal left: pray the Gift will heal him (heal all of them)?

I like to think of them finding comfort the dark, wet, cold caverns below Banora. A place they might have a sense that home should have been, for someone. Rotting there, together, when they could no longer find the strength to fight (nor eat, nor drink, nor preen those massive wings). I like to think, that even if they had lost all semblance of self and individuality, that there is comfort in numbers, in having someone just like you to die with. Comfort in having someone just as terrified and hopeless to die with. Did they know, at that point of degradation, that they weren't Him? Did they know, the Gift wasn't coming?

And I wonder: did all of the Angeal copies leave them? What was that day like, when the last Angeal copy realised, as Lazard did, the nightmare it had been born into? That they couldn't fight that war, not end it? What pain was there, every time Angeal left them, again and again and again?

That was a long seven years.

At least they weren't alone. Genesis wasn't completely alone. But maybe being surrounded by the dying bodies of not-quite-himself was even worse than isolation would have been.

what's the gang's go-to meal or food choices?

Zack isn't very picky, he eats whatever he can get his hands on as soon as its in his mitts. Do NOT ask him to hold your snack for you, it'll be gone before you can even step away. Generally he has a preference for savory flavors and softer textures Cloud is a lot pickier, I think he has a lot of sensory issues revolving around food. Generally I think his safe foods would probably be protein drinks, crunchy salads and noodle dishes. I could also see him enjoying a steak, but he'd be really strict about how it's prepared (his favorite food is canonically milk 😭) Tifa has a sweet tooth! Her favorite food is canonically donuts, so I think she'd like pastries and desserts, generally cafe-type foods I think. Aside from that I can see her preferring full meals instead of snacks, and liking chicken/fish over red meats. I see Aerith as liking strong flavors. Bitter black coffees and spicy spicy peppers, along with strong cheeses and stuff. I also see her with sensory issues, but I think they're opposite to Clouds.. if a dish is too plain, it'll make her gag.
