i don’t know why, but each time i listen to this song (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Te_rgrizw3k&pp=ygUh0YXQtdC70LDQstC40YHQsCDQutGA0LDQutCw0YLRg9C6) i can’t stop imagining tubhalo aus, so i decided to translate it and share:
Here is the window, here are the two of us on the windowsill.
Under the window, on the icy paving stones,
Armed horsemen ride in formation.
Helmets, blades in the night, epaulette prints.
And you whisper,
“You and I will make our own warriors.
Tin, terracotta, in general, immortal.
They will fight only for our love.
Go adamantly against any fire and wind”.
With wooden sabers and glass eternal breath.
Our army, army, would shed tin blood.
My general, what if our enemy has seven heads?
Seven sparkling crowns above starry towers.
And you whisper:
“My lady, I will help you conquer your fear,
We will mould our army even more terrifying”.
After all, with wooden sabers and with glass eternal breath.
Our army, army, is shedding tin blood now.
And under the embroidered banner
The bells ring “forgive me!”
From dawn to the end of the day
Our army, army.
Do you remember how you dragged me
Through the forest through the snow?
Stumbled between steaming puddles and fragments.
The inevitable gothic strikes again and again.
Seven crowns, seven towers, seven banners and only...
With their blued sabers,
And with frosty white breath
Blood flows, invariably scarlet
Of our army, army.
Before the end of the day save me
Under the faded silk banner.
To the last, to the one,
Our army, army,
Army, army...
Until the last, until the one...

Iron Widow
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Spoiler alert
I picked up this book praying to god that it would be good because I spend half my life lurking around Xiran Jay Zhao’s TikTok and I didn’t want to let her down by leaving a bad review. I didn’t have to worry. Iron Widow was fucking fantabulous. It was so angry and rightfully so because that world is horrible. The most horrible thing about Huaxia is that different aspects of it are a reality for different women all over the globe. Women and even young girls are still being essentially sold as brides in some parts of the world. In other parts of the world girls are being denied an education. Even in the USA, where I live, which is supposed to be more progressive about women’s rights, women have lost the right to decide what to do with their own bodies in some states and there’s even a movement to take away women’s rights to vote. I still think that, at least from my (admittedly privileged) perspective things can still be solved nonviolently and we’re not quite at the “brutally taking over the country” level yet.
I think the most striking bit of Iron Widow for me was when Zetian realized that the folks from central command and all the soldiers were more scared of her, a woman who had only done what men had been doing for years, than a literal family annihilator. In the USA, all this push back against women’s rights to abortion and rights to vote came after a big feminist movement (#Metoo). All the men in power try to keep women downtrodden because they’re scared of women with power. Just something to think about.
Aside from the obvious feminist aspect of the book, one of the first things that I noticed about Iron Widow was the disability representation. The main character, Wu Zetian, has to use a cane to walk. I feel like physical disability representation, particularly ones that get in the way of every day mobility, are not present in YA literature much unless the book is specifically about the main character overcoming their disability. I was really happy for this type of representation. Finally a disabled character that wasn’t defined by their disability.
Another aspect of Iron Widow that I loved was the historical aspect. For one, all the place names mentioned (Sui-Tang border, Zhou province, and Ming province) were named after historical dynasties of China. I should know, my AP World History teacher made my whole class memorize the dynasties song. It’s been 5 years and it still haunts me in my sleep. Also, Wu Zetian was very clearly based off of the Empress Wu Zetian of the Tang dynasty. The Qin Zheng emperor dude was clearly based off of Shi Huangdi, China’s “first emperor.” Even his tomb in the volcano was like Shi Huangi’s tomb with the terracotta warriors. Rongdi was a word used to refer to certain tribes of people not of Han Chinese descent and the Xianbei tribe was a very important one. I’m sure there are more historical Easter eggs, I just didn’t notice them.
Iron Widow is the first YA book I’ve read that features a polyamorous relationship and I personally love it. I think the dynamics between Yizhi, Shimin, and Zetian are perfect. An added bonus is that I didn’t have to read about some dumb fighting over the girl part or “oh no, who should I choose?” That gets boring fast. Part of me kind of wished that Zetian would have a female love interest so we could read about a lesbian couple overthrowing the patriarchy but alas, we can’t get everything.
I do think that the ending was a bit too easy, though. It feels like it should be harder to take over the country than flying in on a robo-dragon thing, destroying some stuff, and declaring yourself the Iron Empress. I don’t know how I would have written it, though, cause I guess it might be pretty jarring to see this super powerful robo-dragon with super powerful pilots, one of whom hasn’t been seen in over two centuries. It probably would have been pretty hard (and stupid) to try and fight back, still, I’d like to have seen someone try (and more than just by holding hostages).
Characters
Wu Zetian: Zetian did things that I’ve been waiting for YA book characters to do for ages. Her just daring the soldiers to shoot her when they were trying to figure out what to do with her after surviving Li Shimin. Taking advantage of her untouchable position in different situations. That was some bad bitch behavior. I approve. I also like how you can see her character evolving as she realizes the complexities of her world. Like, somehow she becomes more empathetic and more ruthless at the same time. I think it’s because the more she learns about her world and the people around her, the more attachment she develops for some characters (like Shimin) and the more hate she develops for other characters (An Lushan). You also see her will to live increase as she goes from thinking of herself as just another cog in the machine to realizing that she can make a big change.
Li Shimin: I’m probably going to have hordes of angry fans coming at me for this comment, but Shimin was kind of disappointing to me. I think it’s because I was expecting dark humor and wry comments but instead I just got dark and serious. I mean, it makes sense when you consider his backstory, but still I wish we could’ve gotten some humor out of him. Some indication that he feels things other than anger, guilt, or sadness. Of course, that doesn’t mean I didn’t get invested in his fate. No, I’m still desperate to find out if Zetian manages to get him back. I’ll have to wait until December to find out though.
Gao Yizhi: It should come as no surprise to anyone who’s read my past book reviews that Yizhi is my favorite character. I mean, he basically reads as a blueprint for “Pink’s Fictional Crushes,” the rich pretty boy sweetheart with a hidden ruthless side and most importantly that long k-drama/c-drama hair. I’ve gotta say, I was not expecting him to be the comic relief, but he kind of was. I mean, some of his lines were just golden “you can’t shoot me; I’m rich!!” The only thing that kind of disappoints me about Yizhi is that he doesn’t seem like a strong character. I mean, he clearly is because it definitely takes a strong character to pew pew laser beam their dad, but for most of the story, he was kind of just Zetian’s fanboy. I’m really hoping in the next book we see more of his personality separate from Zetian.

morning always comes
Tumblr media
In sum: Since she was a child, Annie has always felt like she’s been trapped in one long nightmare. But now, with Armin, it feels like the night has passed, and morning has finally come.
Alternatively: The domestic! Armin x Annie narrative we all deserved jk
Warnings: light spoilers? i guess? no manga spoilers tho hehe
Word count: 950
It’s always the same dream.
Burnt, yellow skies. Smoke filling the air. The sound of footsteps on roof tops, and the squad leaders barking their orders. Bones crunching. Skulls cracking. And, rising above all that, the screaming. So much screaming.
This is the sound of humanity fighting. This is the sound of humanity losing.
But this isn’t her battle.
“Annie, now!” That’s Reiner’s voice. He’s yelling at her to take Marco’s gear off of him. She knows he’s standing next to her, but he sounds so far away. Annie’s throat constricts as she reaches forward towards Marco.
“Annie, please stop!” He sounds far away, too. She can’t bring herself to look at him as she unbuckles the straps of his ODM gear. “Why? Why?” She’s never heard him sound this frantic before. “Why, Annie, why?”
Why? She didn’t know, either. This isn’t her battle.
An apology is lodged in her throat, and it makes her want to gag. He needs to know. He needs to know.
“I’m sorry, Marco,” she forces it out, but no sound passes from her lips.
“Can’t we talk about this?” The buckle comes undone, and she yanks his gear away. “Guys, please!” He’s still yelling. Why won’t he stop yelling?
Bertholdt tugs at her arm, indicating that they needed to go. Annie steps back, and makes the mistake of looking at Marco just before she turns to leave. Her throat constricts and she finds herself fighting back tears. Her hands are trembling and she can barely hold onto her gear. She’s never seen Marco afraid before. In the past, his eyes had always been filled with determination, with kindness, with awe. But never fear. And yet it was the last thing that filled his eyes, right before a mindless titan picked him up.
Annie’s knees make contact with the terracotta beneath her feet. She clutches her throat, screaming apologies until her breath can no longer support it. But all she hears is Marco’s voice. Her apologies aren’t enough to drown him out. Annie closes her eyes.
It’s always the same dream. It’s always the same screams.
When she opens her eyes, Annie finds herself staring at a blank ceiling. Tears are running down her cheeks, yet she makes no effort to wipe them away. The first thing she notices is the quiet. Nobody is screaming. Everything is calm.
Except for her.
Annie forces herself up, trying to ignore the thumping of her heart. The next thing she notices is that there are birds chirping right outside her window. It is strange and familiar all at the same time. This feels more like a dream than that nightmare did. Annie sighs and pushes the covers away. Her feet touch the ground with a little thud. She slides into the slippers at the base of her bed, and as she gets up to walk, that’s when she notices it.
It’s the sound of a wooden spoon, clanking against a metal surface. It’s the hiss of oil frying. It’s the sound of distant chatter, of familiar muffled laughter. And Armin’s voice, rising above it all. A surge of relief runs through her chest and down her spine. That’s right. She’s home. Tears spill from her eyes once more, and Annie finds herself having to sit back down again.
“Annie, it’s morning,” Armin’s voice cuts through the sound of her sobs. As soon as he sees her crumpled on the bed, he rushes forward to hold her. “Hey, hey…” Armin says, sitting next to her and pulling her close. “Hey, it’s morning now, love.”
Annie feels another bout of tears threatening to spill, so she buries her face into the crook of his neck. He smells like coffee and freshly-cooked eggs. “You smell like a dining hall,” she says, trying to reel in her breaths. Armin chuckles lightly. It’s the best sound Annie has ever heard. “That’s because I was down in the kitchen, making you breakfast,” he says. Armin kisses the top of her head, tightening his grip around her. All at once, Annie realizes that this must be what love and safety feel like. They sit like this for a while, holding each other in comfortable silence.
“Come on,” Annie sniffles. “I don’t want your effort to go to waste if the food gets cold.”  Armin wipes her tears with the sleeve of his jacket. “Okay,” he says. He takes her hand firmly in his. “You might wanna hop into the bathroom first though. Jean, Conny, and the others have dropped by for breakfast,” he says somewhat apologetically.
Later that morning, as she listens to her husband laugh at Jean’s retelling of his and Conny’s first night at a pub, Annie notices that she can freely breathe. She’s spent so many years, holding her breath. Holding her breath in anticipation of becoming a warrior. Holding her breath in fear of being discovered. Holding her breath, trapped inside that crystalized prison cell for so long. And when she’d woken, she felt like she was holding her breath again, trying to see if anyone would make it out alive. If she would make it out alive.
But now, it’s different. Annie can fill her lungs freely with the scent of coffee, and sunshine, and the fresh seaside breeze. The past few years have felt like one long dream. No, like one continuous nightmare. She’d felt trapped in a long, dark night that never gave way to dawn. Yet now, as her eyes rest on Armin, she feels for the first time, like morning has truly come.
Clear, blue skies. Sunlight pouring in through the windows. The faint sound of a birdsong, being carried by the wind. Friendly chatter, cutlery clattering, and rising above all that, Armin’s laughter. This is the sound of home.

SYNOPSIS
Magic is forbidden unless taught by the Magisters through the Lunara Academy of the Arcane—accessible only to members of the Paladin Order and the Priesthood. Justiciar Baeral—leader of the Paladin Order—is driven mad when he cannot contain the underground market of Magisters teaching the commoners magic. During an attack on the Haderys Kingdom, the Elder Council is disbanded, the sacred forest is defiled, and Justiciar Baeral immediately sets to work on a new arcane school in his image. Grand Elder Stravero is the only one to escape the attack on the governing council and seeks out Priestess Maevira Saphine, and her Paladin-in-training younger sister, Soluna. Together they must leave the kingdom and seek out Therris the Elemental—an exiled Paladin who formerly served alongside Justiciar Baeral.
Creivan is the Archmagistrate at the Lunara Academy and identical twins with Maevira. When he is captured and sent to the Onyx Fortress, he learns of Justiciar Baeral’s plans with the Elder Council and the breakdown of the Paladin Order. Creivan manages to send word of his capture to Maevira, who travels across the Emerald Vale to rescue her twin brother and restore the Elder Council to power. Along the way, the tense bond between Maevira and Soluna is strengthened as they face the corrupted Paladin Order and the creatures of the Emerald Vale. The fate of the realm rests in the hands of Maevira and her company as they infiltrate the Onyx Fortress and face the oppressive force of fear in the ultimate fight for the magical freedoms of the people.
CHARACTERS
Maevira Saphine
Physical description: 27, Female, Identical Twin. Vellaidin (High Elf). Lapis skin, hazel eyes, waist-length straight white hair, loosely braided. She has a golden eye tattooed slightly above the middle of her eyebrows, as well as two thin, golden armbands on each arm. She is tall, around 5′10″ and full-bodied. Wears the traditional flowing, floor-length ivory mesh veil of the Priestesses. Tops it with a magic-binding golden circlet which resembles the sun. As well as a golden dress embroidered with a sacred prayer of the Dyad Goddesses in Vellaidian. The prayer is on the train of the dress which trails behind her. Likely barefoot and wearing golden ankle bracelets. Her hands and feet drip liquid gold constantly. The gold fades from the ground with the next step. When she casts and uses a lot of energy, golden tears shed from her eyes.
Personality: A highly devoted Priestess of the Dyad Goddesses. Nurturing and wise. Tends to the sacred tree of the Mirage Wilds which surround the Haderys Kingdom. Passionate about her spirituality and her family. Practices illusion magic and has an affinity for perspective manipulation. Highly resourceful. Can be a bit of a perfectionist and is known to be stubborn. Occasionally she is compulsive. Willing to fight for what she believes is right. Very close with Grand Elder Stravero and attempts to change his mind on the class system which prevents many people from having access to magic. Rough relationship with her sister, Soluna, but loves her passionately nonetheless. Incredibly close with her identical twin brother, Creivan. Together they raised Soluna, after their parents died in a shipwreck on the reefs of the Lucent Sea.
Creivan Saphine
Physical description: 27, Male, Identical Twin. Vellaidin (High Elf). Lapis skin, short-cropped wavy white hair. Left eye is hazel, right eye is clouded because of an accident which left him blind in that eye. A scar cuts through his right eyebrow, upper lid, and resumes on his cheekbone. There is a tattoo of a serpent loosely draped on his collarbone. The tail on one side and trailing around the back of his neck with the head on the other collarbone. He is around 6′2″ and lanky, though stronger than he looks. Wears the steel gray robes of an Archmagister. The robes are embroidered with the motto of the Lunara Academy in Vellaidian. Always has his grimoire with him. He wears gloves to prevent others from seeing the transmutation marks on his hands which leave them textured with the last thing he transformed into. (Ex: If he morphed into a tree, his hands would look like his skin was made of bark)
Personality: A philosophical Archmagister at the Lunara Academy of the Arcane. Teaches and practices transmutation magic. Can morph into plants and animals, as well as morphing other objects/people into various things. Hosts a calming presence and is very centered. Cares deeply about the people of the kingdom and openly rebels against the class system. Can be a tad manipulative and obsessive. Very close with both of his sisters. Always trying to encourage Maevira and Soluna to get along.
Soluna Saphine
Physical description: 17, Female, Youngest Sibling. Vellaidin (High Elf). Stone Blue skin, Jade Green eyes. Her hair is ash silver and hip-length, shaved on the right side. The full moon is tattooed between her eyebrows and the phases of the moon are tattooed smaller on either side of it, waxing above the left brow and waning above the right. She is short, at just 5′2″. She is petite and wears a black, hooded cloak. An image of Falythriel the Blacktrill—the sacred tree of the Mirage Wilds—is embroidered in silver thread on the back of the cloak. Silver breastplate and dark gray, torn pants and black leather boots that go up to her knees. She carries an enchanted sword. The hilt is designed as a twisted tree trunk. Her shadow magic leaves her hands pitch black up just past her wrists and after she casts, they drip viscous, black fluid. When she walks, black smoke follows her trail. She is epileptic and can occasionally be triggered into seizures by her own magic.
Personality: A Paladin Trainee at the Tower of Elsdir. Though she is part of the Paladin Order, she does not always agree with their goals and opinions. Adventurous, bold, and spunky, she encourages her brother in his rebellion against the class system set up by the Paladins and the Elders. She can be highly impulsive and even reckless and has a temper. Her shadow magic makes her insecure as it is rarely practiced anymore and it is often equated with dark magic. Her magic is powerful, even for someone still learning. It can be unpredictable at times. She is an incredible fighter, using her size as an advantage. Her skill with a sword is known across the kingdom. She has a hard time being close with her sister. She would never tell Maevira this, but it is because Maevira reminds her so much of their mother.
Grand Elder Stravero
Physical description: 82 but still kickin’, Male, Selanar (Wood Elf). Terracotta skin, gray and white hair in multiple thick braids pulled back into a ponytail. Cerulean eyes. One cream colored line tattooed coming out of each corner of his mouth, converging to parallel lines at the chin running down his throat and fading by the end of the neck. Stooped posture, uses a large staff to keep himself upright. Frail but still able to get around himself and is healthy. Can defend himself easily with his magic. Pierced ears. Wears a large green cloak with draping sleeves. The back of the cloak is embroidered in yellow with an outline of the Dyad Goddesses praying back-to-back. His hands flake off green leaves.
Personality: Leader of the Elder Council and oldest one of the 12 Elders. Wants to do right by the people but is very traditional and does not always agree with the desire to change the class system. Loves Maevira like a daughter and mentors her. Wields abjuration magic which allows him to form barriers, heal others and plants, and enchant items. He is disciplined, merciful, and optimistic. Occasionally, he is prone to hypocrisy and inflexibility. Very devout and a bit whimsical. Was a strong warrior in his past but is still one of the most powerful wielders of magic.
Therris the Elemental
Physical description: Age is unknown, Male, Elemental (Ancient Elf). Sage skin, gray eyes. Medium-length, messy, curly black hair with a few locks always draped in front of his face. Charcoal smudged in a thick stripe going from ear-to-ear over his eyes and nose. Average height, stocky build. Scarification tattoos in his native tongue sprawled across his arms, chest, and back. Wears a dark brown hooded cloak. Ivy wraps around the hood and arms of the cloak. Black chest-plate and dark green pants with worn, brown boots. Wields a staff coated in vines. His hands and feet drip ash. Wears a golden circlet with a gilded beetle in the center of his forehead.
Personality: Therris is one of the last Elementals left in the Emerald Vale. He was a high-ranking member of the Paladin Order before he was exiled to the Weythelin Mountains. He is focused and independent. An elemental is an extremely powerful being who is able to manipulate fire, water, and earth. Therris is a nature-lover, often seen in the Mirage Wilds gathering herbs and speaking with animals. No one has been able to get close to him since his husband was murdered. Very mysterious but has a wonderful heart. Uses a bow and quiver.
Justiciar Baeral
Physical description: 50, Male, Selanar (Wood Elf). Sickly pale skin with rot set into it. The knuckles on his hands are becoming exposed and he has infected holes in his arms, neck, and face. Sunken eyes that are different colors, one is gold and the other is black. Literally stinks like death. His gums are blackening and his lower lip has a hole in it, revealing the rotten teeth barely staying in his mouth. His spine is deforming, revealing spike-like ridges that are beginning to jut out of his back. He only has four fingernails left, the others peeled off. Wears a full-body black set of armor to try and hide these new deformities which are a sign he is dabbling in dark magic. Wields a bone axe.
Personality: Leader of the Paladin Order. Hates the commoners enough to defile his body to do something about it. He is naturally inclined to wield conjuration magic but breaks the physical laws of magic to begin practicing necromancy which is what is destroying his body. He is callous and cruel with a volatile temper. His prejudice gets him into trouble with the Elders and the Lunara Academy quite often. He was not always this way, however. But after the death of his son, he morally shriveled up.

Hi, movie ask: 5, 9, 10, 20, 31 (a favorite adapted movie, an underrated movie, a movie that not many have heard that you’ve seen, a movie that was better than the book, 3 movies you’re expecting excitedly!) I hope you're well! Have a nice day! 💜💜💜 Good luck with learning German! 🙌🙌🙌
Aww, thank you so much for the sweetest ask, anon, and thank you for the good wishes! 😊💕 I’m going to need all the luck for my studies, but hopefully, by this time next year, I will be able to write Merlin meta in German! 😆😆😆
❤ A favourite adapted movie would have to be The Lord of the Rings, nothing really compares to the impact this book has had on my life and although the movies don’t come anywhere close to that, they do tower over all other movie experiences for me! Obligatory mention of The Banquet, which is a Chinese retelling of Hamlet and is something I always recommend to people whenever we get stuck studying Shakespeare for the millionth time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
❤ For underrated movie I’ll go with Kingdom of Heaven. I’m not sure if it counts because it is a Hollywood blockbuster, but I just feel like this movie didn’t receive as much positive attention as I would have liked.
Tumblr media
❤ For a movie I’ve seen that not many have heard of, I will go with a somewhat old one: Fight and Love with a Terracotta Warrior.  Also, the whole “not many have heard of” is probably regional because it’s Zhang Yimou and Gong Li, so I’m sure that it’s pretty well known in China (and elsewhere), but I saw it on TV in times before the Internet, it was my first experience with Chinese filmmaking and this particular aesthetic, and OMG, it did such a number on my head! It haunted me for ages afterwards and I couldn’t find it again for years. Whenever I tried to explain it to people, I got blank stares. I later independently developed the biggest crush on Gong Li without even realising that it was the same woman and fell deep into the rabbit hole of Asian movies for a while. It was absolutely a premonition of things to come! 😂😂
Tumblr media
❤ I’m sure there are plenty of movies that I’ve seen that are better than the book, but the one that really stands out for me Coppola’s Dracula because I really loved the movie, then I picked up the book and loathed it. I had a similar experience with The Phantom of the Opera, the book was boring beyond words and the characters were super unlikeable (I realise that people generally dislike this movie because they prefer the musical, but you can take Gerard Butler as the Phantom from my cold, dead hands). Obligatory mention of Anne Rice because every single adaptation of her work is going to be better by default than any of her shit writing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
❤ For 3 upcoming movies that I’m really excited for, I would have to say Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Robert Pattinson’s Batman (I’m so glad we’re past the Affl*ck era, he’s so slimy and greasy in every way imaginable) and the adaptation of Dune that is supposedly coming next year!

NOTE: I received a complimentary eARC of this book from Harlequin Australia through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I’ve read several of Maria V. Snyder’s fantasy books and really enjoy her writing, but I can honestly say… she should write more sci-fi!! They say you’re not supposed to judge a book by it’s cover but in this case, I’m very glad I did! I didn’t know this series even existed until I stumbled upon the first book in my local store and bought it because I liked the cover. It wasn’t until I got it home that I realised it was by an author I’d read before and really enjoyed and before I was even halfway through I went searching to see if there was a second book because I was enjoying the first one so much that I knew I would want to read the second straight away; I was so excited when I saw it on NetGalley and immediately requested it!
Tumblr media
The world building was phenomenal, Snyder thought of everything even down to the tiniest little detail. I loved all the technology and archaeology talk and found myself wondering more than once how long it took Snyder to research everything that went into the book. From the theory behind all of the mysteriously placed terracotta warriors throughout the universe and their connection to the “shadow blobs”, the science behind the way time “crinkles” worked, to the ability of people to “worm” into the Q-Net and the eventual reveal of how the Q-Net actually came to be, they were all such a unique and interesting concepts. I’ve never read anything like it before and it kept me wanting more, more, more the entire time I was reading.
The action scenes were so well written that my heart was often racing and my whole body was tensed in anticipation. During the scene where Jarren caught Lyra and put an explosive on back, I was gripping my poor Kindle so tightly I actually tore the PopSocket off the back lol
Needless to say the characters were also amazingly written. The main character, Lyra/Ara, had me laughing out loud on many occasions and her relationship with everyone around her and the way they developed was so incredibly well done. She wasn’t your stereotypical “everyone instantly loves her spunky attitude” character and I loved that; she was constantly having to fight to be heard by her “superiors” but she never gave up, even when she knew it could possibly mean everyone might end up hating her. I really enjoyed how her relationships with other crew members developed over time, not just with Niall but with his father (the head of security), her own parents, and the other members of the security team. She could often be stubborn, impetuous, and just generally a stereotypical “I don’t have to listen to anyone” teenager, but that was all part of what made her growth as a character so fun and enjoyable to read. It was very interesting to see how much she changed from the beginning of the first book to the end of the second.
Honestly, I could go on and on about how amazing these books are for days, that’s why I rated them both five stars. There’s action, archaeology, science, romance, culture, technology, aliens, time travel (kind); there is literally something for everyone in this book and I can’t stress enough how much I enjoyed it! So much so that I was recommending the whole series to friends before I have even finished the first chapter!
Navigating the Stars is now available and Chasing the Shadows will be available on November 18, 2019.  Check it out the series on Goodreads!

Text
Characters of Huntik as lines from songs rock-folk band "Мельница" ( " The Mill" )
Zhalia: "Ты, моя птица, да не перелетная - белые перья, тяжелые крылья твои,
Ты, моя птица, не знала высот и не знала, не ведала,
Небо забыло тебя"(Неперелетная")
"You, my bird, not migratory - white feathers, heavy wings of yours,
You, my bird, did not know the heights and did not know, did not know,
The sky forgot about you" ("Not migratory")
"There the last of my tribe
Will easily spread his wings - iron feathers,
And scales drawn pattern will disperse the storm the embodiment of passion,
Soaring into the cloud against fate -
Very dangerous, insanely beautiful!" ("Dragon")
"So give me air and I'll become a wing for you,
I'll give you a storm, and maybe even a thunderstorm...
And before you wake up, look - a fear's jumping like a rat out of your ship, almost without touching the sides... “  ("Never")
Dante: "Кто летит за пургой
Из обители молний,
Тот единственный в силах шагнуть через край.
Так гряди из-за гор,
Из-за синего моря,
И у этого мира меня —
Забирай эту ложь,
Горе, нежить и небыль,
Я стеклянный сосуд со свечою внутри;
Мы отвержены — что ж,
Упади же из неба
И у этого мира меня забери,
И навеки меня забери,
Слышишь, в небо меня забери." ("Обряд")
 "Who's flying behind the Blizzard
From the abode of lightning,
He is the only one who can step over the edge.
So come over the mountains,
From over the blue sea,
And from this world me —
Take that lie away,
Grief, undead and tall tale,
I am a glass vessel with a candle inside;
We're rejected - well,
Fall from the sky
And take me from this world,
And take me forever,
Listen, take me to the sky." ("The rite")
 "And you whisper:
"We will make our own soldiers with you -
Pewter, terracotta, in general, immortal!
They will fight only for our love,
Go adamantly against any fire and wind!" ("Krakatuk")
"You tied a knot from the grass and wove a strand of my hair into it,
You sent into other people's dreams that crazy vision of the country
Where days are bright from the light of the stars...
Master of mountain roads I will call you,
Who said, that snow was cold" ("Master of mountain's roads")
“ I'm not worth, believe me, your sheding tears about me,
Your walking down the traces of my blood in the darkness,
On the lingonberry in the moss,
To the gates, behind which are the cold and the darkness,
You don't know - there are cold and darkness...”  ("Heather warrior")
"Far up the river was going the boat,
Behind you the wind was carrying my song,
I has been waiting - I has been waiting , I've exhausted my eyes,
But was covered with ice a wide riverbed...
And now I'm white like the snow,
But I will be waiting for you anyway...”  ("Winter")

Day 251/365: September 8th 2018 | Terracotta Army
You can't come to Xi'an and not visit the Terracotta Army lol but let me just say that it took us AGES to get here smh. This is not located INSIDE the city of Xi'an so everything is a lie (just like how the Great Wall of China is not ACTUALLY inside of Beijing). My mom and I started our day in Huimin Street again. We tried 油波 biáng biáng noodles and it was so delicious~ also tried the Turkish ice cream that tasted so weird and not yum at all LOL but it makes you look like you're smoking hella weed because smoke was coming out your nose AND mouth 🙊👃👄💨💨 ... After breakfast, we took the city bus to Xi'an train station to take a long distance bus to the Terracotta Army. MAN THAT BUS WAS CAR SICK INDUCING. AWFUL. I had a headache AGAIN after I got off the bus. Anyway, Terracotta Army consisted of 3 pits + several museums. I only went inside 2 pits lol I forgot that there was a third ALSDDLSLDLD SHIT LOL. It was so crowded especially in pit 1 AKA the biggest pit. SO MANY PEOPLE. MORE VISITORS THAN WARRIOR DEFINITELY. Everyone who visits here think it's so "incredible" that the emperor organized this but do you think about how fucking EXTRA Mr.Qin frigging Shi Huang was!!!! LITERALLY HOW MUCH DOES HE LOVE HIMSELF!! PLUS ---APPARENTLY PEOPLE WHO HELPED HIM MAKE THESE WARRIORS WERE BURIED ALIVE WHEN HE WAS BURIED SO WHAT THE FUCK!???? I HATE EMPERORS!!!! I'M MAD!! I'll fight them!
After the pits, we went to the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang but there was NOTHING BUT A FEW  TOMBS. I FEEL SCAMMED LOL. It was nice to walk around but feels weird to walk next to his dead body. Hmm.... 🤔 lol anyway we headed back home and rested for literally 20 minutes before having to meet my dad's classmate and their wife lol. We ate 西安小吃 for dinner. Also went to a bar after and I drank coke LOL. Ended my day by taking photos of the Bell and Drum Towers. 鼓楼~ 钟楼~~~ 💕
Another 30k steps today. I'm so?? Fit??? LMAO!
