Welcome to the Overworked Blorbo Battle Preliminary Round!
Many characters were submitted for this tournament so, in order to allow as many different blorbos into the bracket as I can, I’ve had to limit them to one per series. For most, i just included the most highly submitted character but there were a number of series with characters who had the same (or very similar) number of submissions. Therefore, I’ve created a preliminary round for you to vote on which character from each series gets to enter the bracket.
There will be 37 polls lasting 1 week each.
The polls will be separated into 3 waves. Each wave will be posted 24 hours after the previous.
The first wave will begin on Tuesday the 27th of June at 3PM BST
I've tried my best to only include official images for all of the characters on the polls but I'm not familiar with every series listed so, when the polls go up, if you notice I've used a fanart or cosplay image without permission or credit please let me know and I'll add credit and correct it for any future appearances of that character.
I apologise if I’ve accidentally spelled something wrong or used a wrong name for something, I’m not familiar with every series listed.
The matchups are listed under the read more
There may be spoilers ahead

3 Ships
Neeshka & fem Knight Captain (Neverwinter Nights 2)
Lagoona Blue and Gil (Monster High, one of few het ships I liked... until late seasons, then just grew tired of their continious drama, like other fans)
Malenia x Tarnished (who else? preferably fem Tarnished, but there are some good het ship fics which I enjoy too).
First ship
Probably Windblade\Chromia, from Transformers.
Yeah, I was in Transformers fandom for a few years in not distant past. I enjoyed newer shows like Prime (even cosplayed humanized Arcee) and Windblade\TAAO comic series, for good amount of drama. Also RiD and Animated. A friend tried to hook me with Armada and, of course, G1, but that was not my thing... Finally grew tired and felt like mecha was not my thing at all, then quit.
Also previously I was more for asexual representation, not shipping anyone. Then, in my late 20s to 30, got hormones boost (better never than late, as I think now) and went somewhat wild for fem ships.
currently reading
Nothing except tumblr posts or some periodicals.
Thinking I should start reading again 'cause it's been a long time since I did this...
Last film
Legend (1980s fantasy with young Tom Cruise). I like 80s fantasy movies. Haven't seen much as a kid, but always wanted...
Last song
Bran - Kabiten
Currently craving
Money. Obvious but true. The holidays left me with some debts. I want to get rid of those...
But also to get some Chrismas ale once more, until it's gone. One local brewery made it really good this year, and they made plenty, so now what's left is on sale realy cheaply 'cause Irish Stout for spring is already on the way. I'll go there on saturday after art school.

Bad Things Happen Bingo!
I love writing these types of prompts! What does that say about me 😅 but anyway… I’m very excited to do this and I’d love it if some of my followers and mutuals would throw suggestions my way as to what you want to see ☺️💙
This is my Bingo Masterlist, I’m going to list the prompts underneath the card with links to each story and also state a couple of rules, please respect my terms for this, thank you 🌸
Tumblr media
If you want to do your own grid you can find out more about it on their tumblr page here ☺️
Rules:
1. I will be writing for Skyrim & Final Fantasy XV (15, for those like me who have to think too long about Roman numerals 😅) please don’t request anything from a different fandom
Obviously some lean more heavily to FFXV and some to Skyrim, but most I like to think most could be used for both ☺️
2. When you request a prompt, please specify which game it’s based around, I know my mutuals well enough to know which they’d want, but I don’t want to assume. And also specify if there is a particular character or ship you want to see. I am most comfortable writing the prompts within the stories I’ve already established and the Masterlist will be colour coordinated accordingly: Far Horizons & Ancient Stones (My LDB x Ulfric long fic) The Blood Prophecy (My Dawnguard Protagonist Long fic) Guard & Glaive (Including Cor x Drautos & Nyx x OC) Ardyn x Reader One Shots
3. If someone requests the same as someone from the other fandom, that’s OK! I don’t mind doing a story for both
4. No Smut, please
5. Please be patient! I have a lot of writing projects on the go at the moment as well as family commitments, reading in my own time, working on my cosplay, playing games and work, so it may take a little while to get the prompt done
Thank you all for your understanding ☺️💙🌸
Prompts: (When a prompt has been requested I will put it in Bold for FFXV and Italics for Skyrim, but as I said in my rules I am more than happy to do the same prompt for both fandoms)
1. Animal Attack
2. Bloodied Knuckles - Home From Work
3. Broken Nose - The Return of a Friend
4. Caught in an Explosion
5. Cradling Someone in Their Arms - Don’t Go
6. Falling Through the Ice
7. Go Through Me - A Request for Aid
8. Gunshot Wound
9. Hidden Scar - Bracelets
10. Hospital Stay
11. Hurts to Breathe
12. Nightmares - A Vision of the Future
13. Not Afraid of you Anymore - Ruins of Insomnia
14. Outnumbered in a Fight - I am Your Sword and Shield
15. Pinned Down by Wreckage
16. Poison/Venom
17. Shaking & Shivering - The Dragonborn’s Curse
18. Shot With an Arrow
19. Slammed into a Wall - Chaos in the Citadel
20. Stranger in a Familiar Land - Home at Last
21. Thrown Down the Stairs
22. Thrown From a Horse
23. Tied to a Chair - Taken Off Duty
24. Trying to Wake Them Up
25. “Who Did This to You?”

Gritty Bunny : thebreezybiz
Oh, I have an obsession with Gritty and absolutely love the chaotic mascot! To the point I've contemplated with my roommate to theme our bathroom with gritty colors, artwork and fuzzy bath mats. But I just love the chaotic energy of Gritty and I loved the idea of combining a mascot head with a bunny outfit for Dragoncon's Bunny Hutch event.
Haha, everyone's reactions are usually the same: shock, disgust, confusion, love, lust(?), but by far the best thing to happen to me in the costume was at the Bunny Hutch Event at Dragoncon 2021. Someone gave me $10 and I started dancing immediately, the best $10 I ever made! I will also say that the costume is great for getting drinks at the sailbar since it's kind of hard to not stand out!
I have to give credit to my mom actually. She knew I loved anime and manga and saw that there was an anime convention happening while she was on a work trip in California. She went and picked up some posters and swag for me, told me about it and then helped me find my first convention: Animenext 2004. She mentioned that a lot of people dress up and that I should pick a character and cosplay them. That first one was Yuna from Final Fantasy X-2. What inspires me to keep going is the joy and connections I make through cosplaying. I love being able to dress up as characters with friends and have the ability to connect and make new friends because of those costumes.

10 characters 10 fandoms
I got tagged by @skuitti like two months ago, and kept forgetting, but here I am! So, ten characters I enjoy, in no particular order
Alphinaud Leveilleur from Final Fantasy XIV. He is my brother, he is my son, and I love him to death. Ride or die. The assistance to his artisticness. In ARR he starts off overly sure of himself, and I have a weakness for characters like that, and then he grows from uh, that little experience in post-ARR and keeps learning about the world and how to live in it. A bleeding heart, though I'm sure he'd put it in different terms. He's way too smart for his own good, buddy needs to stop getting involved in every project in existence, but then he wouldn't be Alphinaud, I suppose.
Seere from Drakengard 1. He's kind in a world that offers little solace to those whose strength comes from kindness and compassion, and despite going through all that happens in DoD1, he doesn't lose that compassionate heart in DoD2.
Masumi Usui from A3! (the game, I never watched the anime). I have a fondness for character types like him, who love someone with their whole being and then some. Though he also tries to understand why the one he loves thinks it's unhealthy, and reflects on it, which I appreciate, since it's a bit less common to see in media with characters like him.
Byleth Eisner from Fire Emblem Three Houses (disclaimer: I only finished the Golden Deer ending). I actually love silent protagonists, and I thought it was fun how the game gave us a reason the MC didn't emote much. Yet the game allowed Byleth to mourn properly instead of glossing over that whole thing, which I also really appreciated. A low-emotion character was allowed to show their emotions, and not thought of as weird for it. I also thought it was sweet how throughout the game Byleth learns to show their emotions more, and seems to become happier than before. I also see myself in them somewhat, so there is that.
Atton Rand from Knights of the Old Republic II. He's fun, he's sassy, and he's always got the one-liner for the job. Despite that, he struggles with his past, and is hard to dig out the truth from, which I thought was a nice contrast. Every time I play KOTOR2 I have him in my team.
Gundham Tanaka from Super Danganronpa 2. He's such a fun character to play around with and ponder about. He's eccentric, and not afraid to show that. Unapologetic about being who he is, and yet he clearly has some issues I'd love to explore. I so badly want to learn how the world he's constructed in his head works, I want a guided tour and a pamphlet.
Infinite the Jackal from Sonic Forces. Now listen. He's cool, he's edgy, and over-the-top. What more could you want in a villain? If I had the money and the know-how, I'd love to make a proper cosplay of him.
Piers from Pokémon Sword and Shield (I've only played the game, I haven't seen the anime). He looks like a depressed raccoon, and moves in such slouchy arcs I can't help but relate. I respect and admire his attitude, in how he's ready to give hell to anyone who's trying to force him to conform, and how he goes his own way as much as he can without outright breaking the rules.
Albedo from Genshin Impact. I enjoy and relate to his calm but teasing personality, as well as how curious he is about everything. I find his lore interesting, and would love to hear more about it all. Besides that, I also really like the Dragonspine mountain, so that might've made me like him more. If I ever get back into Genshin, I'll try to pull for his constellations, he's like the most built character I have.
Kurapika from Hunter x Hunter (I stopped reading at around when the gang heard about the Dark Continent). I don't really have an explanation as to why I like him, I just remember him being instantly my favourite out of the main team. I did find it somewhat funny though how when he's traveling with Gon & Co. he's really enjoying himself, but when he's out and about by himself, he is absolutely miserable, and wallowing in rage. Poor guy needs a break. I actually almost made my first ever cosplay him, but ended up not doing that. Maybe if I ever pick up HxH again, I'll get inspired to do that. His robe looks so comfortable, and I'd love to wear the chain "glove" he has. Man, now that I've said that, I feel like going back to reading HxH (maybe re-read it?) just for him. Maybe this time I'll get past where I left off, which I've done twice now.
All in all, to become a character I like, you have to either be difficult to parse/be mysterious, be low-emotion, be fun, or be goth.

Its not much but its honest work ToT
Yesterday I read:
1 chapter of hanshe (I’m extensive reading, which is artificially easier than usual since I’ve read this before so even if I ‘forgot’ words, I honestly know them somewhere in my brain so they come back easily when reading)
2 chapters of Granting You a Dreamlike Life (eirenical’s translation reminded me ToT! Honestly if it weren’t for hanshe’s author’s writing being SUPER familiar to me, I think GYADL author actually writes a bit easier to read. The difficult part is the unrecognizable words I Actually have never studied before, unlike hanshe, so I have to put in a bit more effort to figure them out)
1 chapter of Journey to the West Vernacular. Easiest version I’ve ever read of this story, it feels like a graded reader. But has a slight style to it which makes it enjoyable. Easier to read than GYADL, but again hanshe is artificially easiest since somewhere in my brain I have all the words in it stored ToT.
0.5 chapters of ‘Liu Li’. So I had a link to Liu Li, Love and Redemption’s novel. Well. That link was apparently fanfic, I read a few paragraphs and oddly sects were being called businesses...then Ling Long said she got a job... then Sifeng showed up in a western style suit with GLASSES. And I was like yep this is definitely definitely the WRONG story lol. I actually have the print version of Liu Li in my house but its in a box right now ;-;. So yeah... I’ll need to go looking for this novel again lol, somehow I’d saved a fanfic last time I bookmarked it.
Honestly yes, I still just want to extensively read Guardian. But who knows when I’ll get the bravery to try that again. I also tried reading some japanese detective novels translated into Chinese (since that was what was popular in the section of a site i was browsing through). But um... seeing hanzi that represent japanese names just fried my brain way too much and I bailed after 1 paragraph. (Truly: I saw Tokyo written in hanzi in the first sentence, and my brain pronounced it the chinese hanzi way and it just hurt my brain to think about i don’t even know why).
Yesterday and today I listened to:
Final Fantasy VII lets play in japanese, I found a new lets player I like. She cosplays sometimes for them (for IX she dressed as zidane!) I used the closed captions on youtube so I had some japanese subs. It was artificially easier since I’ve played the game in english, so I could guess what words meant what. That said - I think that makes learning from it easier. I think that means if I just relaxed and watched a lets play of a game I’ve played, I’d pick up a lot of words from context that otherwise would be too difficult to learn as quickly. I know whenever I check out Kingdom Hearts cutscenes I can figure out words easy (cause I know that game by heart lol)
Midnight Diner condensed audio (I found a lot of japanese audio lately). I could catch bits and pieces of things said, which I honestly consider a success considering how hard it was to watch IN japanese only last time I tried. I did not follow what was going on, but just catching some bits of dialogue meaning was cool!
Final Fantasy X condensed audio. This is proof that (somehow) I could learn some new words from audio-only resources in japanese, specifically if they’re media I’m already familiar with. I know the scenes and characters SO well I have figured out a few words just now listening as I work. And I can tell what scene I’m hearing fairly easily (music cues and sound effects same as in english, actors have the same ‘vibe’ even though they’re japanese VAs), which makes guessing words easier since I know the topic. And then, I find recognizing words I ALREADY know easier (since I know the scene’s context I can expect them) - which is good review for me and helps improve my listening comprehension. Also I finally really hammered in soshite - and, dakara - because, oyaji - dad/pops, sekai - world, dekimasu - can! (also its so cute Lulu uses ‘anta’ when I’ve only otherwise heard anta used by yakuza in the Yakuza games ToT). Anyway just notes for me personally: I think its really cool to see that I can pick up NEW stuff and make improvements just listening to audio. Because I would have thought that ‘too hard’ to do at my level.
Alice in Wonderland in Japanese, read-listened in DuoReader app. Well. I did 5 pages. It was hard. I read a LOT of hiragana without kanji to help me as a crutch. Japanese and English have such different sentence structure that the english text did not help with comprehending the audio much lol. So I mostly followed the japanese text with the japanese audio. I do feel I learned some stuff. It was brain frying though. Although, I suppose, Listening Reading Method often does make me feel exhausted. Its a very intensive study method.
Can you tell I’ve been listening to a lot of japanese?? Studying japanese feels so much like I’m jumping in an ocean and going ‘LETS SEE ALRIGHTY’ and then treading water randomly to see if I’ll float or find any islands or drown. But when I use reading resources (because I did jump into trying to read Alice in Wonderland in japanese yesterday with audio), I find myself so reliant on kanji (based on my hanzi knowledge) that it really hinders my ability to pick up new hiragana words. I find this whole past year I’ve been a lot more successful doing mainly audio focus on japanese. But audio focused lessons also mean a lot more unknowns unless I’m using full on english-japanese sentence audio.

Some miscellaneous Distant Worlds thoughts and highlights!
I spent the entire concert either crying, grinning, getting goosebumps, or all three. 12/10
The Rebel Army Theme from FFII during the I-III 2002 Medley BANGS SEVERELY with a live orchestra, holy shit.
The screen was playing scenes from the games and for FFI it was literally either overworld walking or random battles lmao.
The "Spoony Bard" moment from FFIV and Sabin suplexing a train in FFVI both appeared and that makes me happy. Glad to see that memes endure.
The Chocobo Theme part of the I-III medley is distilled joy. It was SO bouncy and fun!
Arnie Roth (the conductor) is really fun I love him. He just gave me good vibes.
The first half of the concert concluded with a brand new battle medley for FFI-VI and it BANGS. The arrangement for the FFIV battle theme is super chill and I'm in love. And then the FFVI part hits and it hits HARD.
They showed FFVIICC Reunion, FFXVI, and Stranger of Paradise trailers during the intermission, but nothing really new.
The second half of the concert opened with FFVIII's Liberi Fatali. I'd realised it was coming because the choir was suddenly there and I'd spotted it in the booklet, but not everyone knew, so the whole hall was like "Ooohh" when the choir started singing. A lot of people also forgot that the song doesn't end on the big note but has a bit of a resolution after and so they started clapping early haha.
While the first half of the concert was either chronological or did medleys, the second half had Roth introduce every segment like "And now, a fan-favourite song from FFVII-X. But first, a DIFFERENT song from another game!"
"Okay, now we're gonna play a classic, Aerith's theme! [cheers] Yeah yeah I know, we're all excited for Remake part 2. Where is it, Square? Anyway, Aerith's theme. But first, Ragnarok, from FFXI!" Tease.
The scenes for Aerith's theme played like a tribute to her and included so many Clerith scenes too, on top of her death scene. Tears.
Rikki, the original vocalist for FFX, sang Suteki Da Ne and I think I've unlocked something spiritually.
Yoko Shimomura was there, and I'd known this in advance, but I hadn't expected to get so emotional about it. Obviously she was there as the composer of FFXV, but she's had such a huge role in my childhood as the composer of Kingdom Hearts that every time I remembered she was actually there, like, in the same room as me and I could see her from my seat, I teared up something awful. Thank you, Ms Shimomura, thank you so much.
They did a fake-out after the Main Theme of Final Fantasy. It was the last *named* song on the programme and they showed the credits, but there were two more songs marked with question marks in the tour booklet, so I knew it wasn't over. Roth left the stage for ten seconds and came back for To Zanarkand.
Obviously, live orchestra To Zanarkand is a religious experience.
After that, the choir stood up and I was chanting "One-Winged Angel One-Winged Angel One-Winged Angel" under my breath. And then it WAS and all the lights went red on the first note literally iconic 15/10 this is what One-Winged Angel deserves.
I *bawled* during the entirety of Not Alone and To Zanarkand, and had to try very hard not to make a sound.
During To Zanarkand, the screen showed a scene of Tidus crying and I was like yeah buddy me too.
As it turned out, I was sliiiightly overdressed in a nice dress and heels in a sea of people wearing merch t-shirts and hoodies. They were correct though, I am INTENSELY jealous of every single piece of merch I saw. But there WAS someone else dressed to the nines, as I spotted a full Remake Wall Market Red Dress Aerith. I also saw one Remake Wall Market Sporty Tifa and two closet cosplay Aeriths, as well as someone wearing Cloud's AC outfit and someone in a Zack wig. There were also a lot of people in what I assume were FFXIV cosplays, but I wouldn't know better haha.
Again, just the experience of being there, together with so many people who have something in common with you, was overwhelming. I guess it's something similar to being at a normal concert, or a big sports event, but the big difference here is that we weren't there *just* for the music for its own sake. We're all fans of the *stories* that the music helps to tell, and that's really special if you ask me.
I bought the FFVIIR Orchestral Arrangement CD (a stupid purchase, as I don't own a CD player, but it gave me so much serotonin), the concert t-shirt, and the tour booklet with interviews and insights. A minute of silence for the Tonberry, Cactuar, Chocobo, and Moogle plushies that I had to leave behind because they wouldn't fit inside my luggage.
While I was in Victoria Coach Station, four whole hours early for my bus (rough day and night), I poured through the tour booklet and I was moved to tears again. These people all put so much love and care into the songs and the concert, and I couldn't be more thankful for all of them.
Also, Distant Worlds Coral is a pun. 35 (as in, 35th anniversary) in Japanese is read "san, go," and "sango" means "coral." Also a play on "choral" music. Everyone here is a dweeb oh my god.
Before the concert, a friend of mine asked me which songs I was expecting to make me cry. While I was wrong in that *every song* made me cry, the only songs on my list that didn't happen were Terra's Theme and the Main Theme of FFVII. Aerith's Theme, Not Alone, To Zanarkand, Main Theme of Final Fantasy, Prelude? All accounted for.
The second I landed in Stansted I found out that Distant Worlds is going to be in Rome in February and YOU KNOW WHAT.
I think that's all? 17/10 amazing spectacular showstopping I'm gonna be thinking about it for the rest of my life have a good day.

Oh Yuna 100%. She was actually my first fictional crush. And remains the #1 Final Fantasy girl in my heart. Heck honestly possibly even #1 character for me. But Ignis may have taken that full title away from her... 👀
I couldn't get into IX for so long lol but I tried again about a year ago and ADORED it. I don't know what changed 🤷 for sure Seph is what got me to retry and also enjoy VII. It wasn't until I knew his whole story that I was interested though.
Honestly when I first saw things about XV I was so disappointed and uninterested because of how real it felt in comparison to like X and VIII (my faves at the time) but now.. I love that about it tbh lol I connect with the characters and the story so much more! Like. I can actually RELATE to Noct and Prompto and that's amazing to me.
Tumblr media
Honestly all the Chocobros being relatable saved the game. I think that’s why the fandom still persists to this day! If they were just normal JRPG protags then I don’t think it would have gotten traction the way it did.
Yuna, especially after I played the other FFs, remains the only female MC that I actually like. Not just tolerate or acknowledge as the main guy’s love interest LOL. Characters like Rinoa and Aerith annoy the mess out of me, and characters like Lunafreya I be forgetting exist until they show up. I think it’s a testament to how poor Squenix writes female characters 😂
Auron was my crush from FFX; I still have his figma rn proudly displayed on my bookshelf LOL. One of my old nicknames was actually Rikku, and I had a whole stint in college where I was doing my hair like hers. To this day, if I can get me a cosplay made of FFX-2 Rikku’s Warrior Dressphere I will be SO HAPPY
