ATLA Head cannon
Jeong Jeong talked about how he wished he had healing abilities like a waterbender.
So I like to think he discovered or helped discover, Cauterization.
If you don't know what Cauterization is, it's a technique where a wound is burned to prevent bleeding and infection!

“The Southern Raiders is a perfect example of why Zutara doesn’t work." (OP commentary available).
reddit post here. fire heats up water; water calms fire.
Zuko allows Katara to choose what she wants, & ultimately K elects not to murder Yon Rha. a significant concept in all 3 stories in this series—as a whole—& individual characters is choices. Z keeps K grounded in a manner Aang can’t.
whether they consciously acknowledge that or not, Z’s family is what happens when you let revenge consume. going on this field trip is crucial for both of them in becoming different people. i doubt K saw the advantage of taking anyone else. without K confronting The Southern Raiders, i doubt the message of “being different than your current self is always one action away” is something Z truly believed.
Aang is The Avatar; it is really difficult to separate him from that; he wouldn’t let go of K with Guru Patik. the idea of revenge is so unlikely for A as an Airbender, & Avatar. keep in mind that A “slept” on his duty for centuries; he was a kid, afraid & unprepared for wars. Z & K aren’t. it’s hard not to hear command when A spoke.
now, you could argue that Z would have gotten an education of world with Toph or Sokka but both are unlikely. Toph, an expert fighter, was sheltered otherwise & blind. Sokka is a non-bender.
this essay could continue. let me know if that's something you'd be interested in.

I want to clear up a mistake people make with Azula and Ursa.
Ursa didn’t play favorites.
Ursa didn’t think Azula was a monster.
Ursa simply, unequivocally, just didn’t enable Azula’s worst traits like Ozai did.
Ozai’s favorite child was Azula, but Ursa still loved her more.
Because enabling isn’t love.
What did Ozai’s enabling do? It made Azula into the type of person to never have any loyal friends. It made the type of person that Mai and Tai Lee would betray at the risk of their own lives.
Ursa pushed Azula to be with her friends. To be with Zuko. Ozai pushed Ursa away, and both kids suffered for it. Azula became a sadist, enjoying seeing her brother get burned—while Zuko was pushed away because he cared for his people.
Azula thought her mom hated her because her mom was the only one who cared enough to tell her no.

People have pointed out that Zuko goes from grunting a lot when fire bending to then being calmer and more fluid with his bending after meeting the dragons but no one has talked about Aang's air bending
In the first couple episodes he does this thing where he scrunches up his nose to do a big move with air, but by the end of the series he's pulling off theses amazing moves with little effort shown

Something that always bothered me in the avatar universe is when two characters, in the midst of battle, perform a perfectly synchronized attack (or defense) as if it were planned or something.
Until I watched Zuko and Aang drill the firebending exercises

Then I realized that Katara and Toph have had synchronized moves with Aang too, but in these contexts, they were engaged in combat. So they must've practiced these forms together during their training sessions, just like Zuko above, and I just never put that together until now. Here are the scenes I'm referring to.

I really really love the progress that Aang makes from his training and shows here, also it's a great example of the implicit storytelling that the avatar series does so well.
(p.s. I wanted to use screenshots rather than gifsets to really see the symmetry between each of the characters.)

Happy 2024 Year of Dragon 🐉🔥
This fanart is a redraw of prince Zuko doing dragon dance in book 3, but I thought it would be cool if the dragon that danced with him is his firebending🔥
ps. This year is in fact Wooden Dragon year, but i think fire dragon is more dope! ^^
edit * oh my god i just saw that i typed the date wrong 😭😭😭 it’s 04012024*** not 2023
