sometimes I try to tell myself Fazbear Frights wasn’t *that* weird and unnecessary of a spin-off until I remember the story about the guy whose cat died and he sent its hair to Fazbear Ent. because they started a program that could make robotic versions of people’s dead pets or something and the robot cat came back with a human face and the guy got ran over by a car trying to run away from it

Y'know why I just realized I prefer Lonely Freddy over Gumdrop Angel? It's not bc I think that Alec was a poor innocent baby and Angel deserved what happened to her. Those people are stupid, Angel deserved it less- SIGNIFICANTLY less- than Alec. But it doesn't feel unfair, it doesn't feel tragic or upsetting the way that Lonely Freddy did. And that's because it's almost impossible to get invested in the narrative of Gumdrop Angel.

Lonely Freddy's whole narrative is cleanly tied together. It's a story about siblings who love each other but are pushed apart. Alec feels neglected by his parents' favoritism toward his sister, but it's hard on her too, and the way he lashes out against her makes her sad because she just wants to be his friend. She spends the whole story waiting for him to be her brother and he refuses to see it and he dooms himself because of that continued hatred and he realizes he loves her but he's pushed himself away so far that his family doesn't even realize when he's gone as long as there's something there still piloting his body.

Gumdrop Angel, on the other hand, feels like a poorly made reconstruction of Lonely Freddy. It's a story about a girl who is in Alec's situation but her actions have no bearing on it, and then she lashes out at her sister once and gets turned into candy. And the relationship between her and her family is completely irrelevant, and she goes through no development, and her "spoiled" 4 year old stepsister does nothing good nor bad and has no strong feelings about her. She stops thinking about her family as soon as she eats the gumdrop, and they never come up again because the rest of the story takes place completely removed from them.

And that's why Gumdrop Angel fails. You can't get invested in Angel or her plight at all, she has no relationships to care about, she goes through no development. I think the reason it's easy to believe she deserved it more, aside from the blatant misogyny of the fnaf fandom, is that Alec regrets hurting his sister more than anything. Angel, who has slighted her sister exactly twice by insulting her and eating her candy, does not change her opinion on it because the narrative fails her by making her opinions, relationships and life completely irrelevant.
