Monique and I had dinner plans since my birthday but there was health issues and my relentless schedule of premieres I had to cover made it nearly impossible to meet up until last night. Monique was sweet enough to join me in a dining experience I’ve longed to have for a few months months now. While I’ve had a lunch and snacks there since the Academy Museum opened I so desperately wanted to have a lovely dinner at Fanny’s without the restraint of financial concerns. Monique is an accomplished diner with loads of experience in French and Italian cuisine. I simply watch and learn as she deftly negotiates complicated menus. We started with drinks. Monique had the Nightmare Alley and I had the World’s Best Martini. The popcorn served with the Nightmare Alley was a wonderful whimsical touch. My martini has a mid-century flare to it. The stem and lower part of the flute was frosty cold. The server gracefully pour the exceptionally cold elixir from a small ceramic decanter. I usually request 3 olives but I forgot but the upside of a Fanny’s martini has 3 olives. We ordered Fanny’s eggplant dish and I had the beat salad for openers. Both are new to the menu and I can’t find the details on them. But the eggplant looked like little boats and my beats had ricotta/potato moose. Both were delicious. We bantered the pros and cons of our main dish. While I was open to the various cuts of beef we shifted to something lighter. Monique had the Whole Orata and it had such a very long time since I had had halibut chose it. We shared bites once we were served. Then the conversation drifts to my most favorite story about a recent event on one of my assignments and Monique told me stories of her recent trip to Cannes. Just like that 3 hours disappeared as we dined at the corner window facing Wilshire and Fairfax. I suggested we could go to Market to see The Long Shadows play but looking at the time we figured it was too late. I decided finally after a few months to once again search for new shoes. I targeted DSW in Pasadena. As some might know and other may be unfamiliar that any clothing item or shoes in the plus size range is much harder to come by in the post pandemic world. I’ve had a few failed attempts to finding new shoes for my feet that are targeted towards work. I’ve got plenty of dress shoe options. Before I bought the totally rockin black high top Chuck Taylor’s/Converse I stopped by Popping Yoke Cafe for brunch. I had the Avocado Benedict - Poached egg, avocado, ham, English muffin, butter, hollandaise sauce. It’s was delicious.
