1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9-11 for whatever Worm characters come to mind! (Or Sophia/Calvert/Taylor/Krouse if you have any thoughts!)
Fuck it. All of em for all of em.
1. Why do you like or dislike this character?
Sophia: I'll be real I don't feel super strongly about her. She's written to be hateable in an effective way, but she's less of a full character than Emma despite being in much more of the story. And her shit kinda gets bogged down by racist writing (a lot of the worst of it happening right before Aisha's introduction, which is also pretty racist). She's involved in a lot of cool and interesting moments but they're rarely interesting because of her.
Coil: Works really well as the first overarching villain in Taylor's story. He's able to sell the "I'm a bad guy but in an excusable way that's not really too bad" well enough, but also has a lot of obvious red flags even before the Dinah reveal. So you can understand perfectly well why Taylor, a kid who really wanted to continue hanging out with the undersiders and do things that made her feel like she had any control, would go along with him. But you can also take a step back and say Jesus, only a kid who really wanted to continue hanging out with the undersiders and do things that made her feel like she had any control would go along with him.
Taylor: Wildbow has a reoccurring tendency to focus on characters who are both incredibly smart and can get an incredible amount of info quickly, but only in specific limited ways. Its true of Taylor, Lisa, Sylvester, Kenzie, Mia—a lot of my favorites. But the interesting thing is that they're never smart in the same ways, never collect the same sort of info. Lisa has general super-induction but no great skill at making plans. Sylvester can read and manipulate people to a superhuman level but is constantly getting blinded by his own resentments and desires. Taylor's hyper-vigilance gave her the ability to see and react to everything external around her, but no means or real incentive to know whats going on internally with people around her. And it makes sense! She's incredibly afraid of letting people in who'll end up hurting her; people who've genuinely been kind to her in the past have used their previous closeness to hurt her later! Knowing that someone doesn't mean her harm now isn't gonna reassure her, so its safer to assume everyone's a threat and not worry too much about what they're actually thinking.
And then there's Rachel, who she not only connects with emotionally, but is the only person who's able to make an emotional connection with her! And since you understand why its not the norm, its all the more incredible to see!
Krouse: oh I'm glad you asked
2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
Sophia: I like that she and Lung both get wrapped back up in the end for Skitter's Gold Morning missions. I wish she got to do more in those, but I do like it as a story beat.
Coil: How high he got and how far he fell.
Taylor: Man the escape from Coil's trap is a fucking great chapter. She's a one-woman horror movie. Single-handedly sells her as a villain who'd get national attention, and its not even a moment the public knows about. And its in such a great place in the story too, where all the tricks she's using have been established so its not feeling like a weird escalation in her abilities, but she hasn't all employed them at once or to such incredible effect yet. It’s the real culmination of her taking “lessons” from Bakuda about being scary.
Krouse: One of the moments that really sold me on him was when he was getting attacked by Case 53s, and immediately started thinking about how he could take them down, before he interrupts his own thoughts to go "wait, what am I doing, I should just run away." It just sells so much of his whole deal. He's a great on-his-feat thinker, he can be an incredible strategist when he's on his own, but he also doesn't share Taylor's suicidal urge to face any problem head-on. Its kind of the inverse of one of Taylor's early establishing moments: after getting attacked by Rachel, she reaches for a reason to calm down, realizes she doesn't have one, and immediately retaliates hard enough to get blood on her boots. God they're such good foils, its weird that the extent of their relationship is mutually disliking each other. Not even intense dislike in either case.
3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?
Sophia: That the black member of the trio is the one that consistently gets physically violent, is characterized as the athletic one compared to the others in general (instead of "the cute one" or "the prep" she's "the track star"), gets described as being savage multiple times, doesn't have much of a character outside of sucking despite being in a work that's otherwise really good at giving internality to people who act shitty, all that jazz.
Coil: How little sense we got of what Calvert's dominion would really look like. That we didn't get much of his takeover without other disasters interfering actually works—it fits the themes of constant conflict interfering with stability and safety. But I still want more of a sense of what Calvert wanted.
Taylor: I didn't care about her reunification with her mom. I say a lot that the ending of Worm is one of the best endings of any story I've read, and that's true of Gold Morning as a whole, but I don't actually care much about the last epilogue. The Brian reveal certainly doesn't help there.
Krouse: Do you know how much it sucks that when people ask me who my favorite worm character is, the tumblr sexyman is in contention?
4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?
Sophia: any story that takes her basic parts, gets rid of the obviously shitty stuff, and develops her into a real character.
Coil: Disney Channel sitcom
Taylor: Well I already tried expy-ing Khepri into my tabletop campaign, and that got mixed results, so I'll take TTRPGs off the list. I'd be interested in her getting put in a medium where you'd have to be creative with how to represent the bug cloud, like live theater.
Krouse: I was gonna say Mob Psycho but then I remembered that they already had a guy who teleported around being a jackass. But I would like too see a well-animated version of his fighting style.
5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?
Sophia: I'll Make You Sorry by Screaming Females
Coil: For some reason I get an Everything Everything vibe from him? Maybe Photoshop Handsome or Breadwinner.
Taylor: I don't actually read her as trans but Dysphoria Hoodie is what immediately came to mind. I'm at least theoretically still making a Cicada Days animatic about her. I think portions of BCNR's Sunglasses fits with whats going on internally with her in the Mannequin fight
Krouse: Want to make a Prowl Great Cain AMV for him one day. Lyrics fit perfectly, and the way its sung gets the same otherwise inexpressable intensity of how I feel about him. Darnielle said “This is a song about betrayal. A lot of songs about betrayal are about betrayal and redemption. Not this one.” And yeah, that's Krouse!
9. Could you be roommates with this character?
Sophia: Oh, no
Coil: It would prolly be fine except for how he'd torture a branch of my psychological continuity and then effectively kill it by destroying that reality whenever I leave the dishes out too long. Don't correct me on how his powers work
Taylor: Uhhh probably not. Even if I wasn't much older, I don't really talk to my roommates unless they're the talkative sort. She's been stuck living with clamshells before, it wasn't good for her.
Krouse: I'd have to kill him
10 and 11: alright these are "could you be best friends with" and "would you date" and in both cases the fact that I'm 23 means no. I don't have Blake's ability to form rich friendships with people much younger than me. And I'm not interested in Calvert as a friend or a lover.

CATCHING MY BREATH, STARING OUT AN OPEN WINDOW
Dashiell Parr is based on Dash from The Incredibles. He is a 29 year old superhuman, mechanic, and uses he/him pronouns. He has the power of super speed, super stamina, heightened reactions and enhanced durability. Dash is portrayed by Alexander Calvert and he is open.
CATCHING MY DEATH, AND I COULDN’T BE SURE
Dash was fast. At least, he used to be fast. As a boy his powers often got him into trouble, using his abilities to his advantage when it came to pulling pranks and cheating on tests... and never playing fair with the other kids. If you asked him, it wasn't fair he had to keep what he could do a secret. He was awesome! And he wanted everyone to know it. Within time, he began to mature and started to see the bigger picture, and finally — much to his parents' relief — started making himself useful to society instead of a nuisance to it. Being a superhero was something that others only dreamt of, and he could actually help save the world... which made him even more awesome. His responsibilities didn't stop him from having fun, though, in ways that didn't compromise his family's identities. Like running out into the middle of the ocean and joining the track team to win with ease, but make it look like a close call. He liked to think he found a good balance for himself, and honestly, he had very few complaints in life. Up until now. They had been on a mission. Hadn't they? Dash was not alone in forgetting what exactly had led his family to Evermore, but he was alone in forgetting how to use his powers... which was basically the worst thing that could have ever possibly happened to him. All of the other parts of life he'd forgotten (nearly everything) paled in comparison to the loss of his abilities. He was bitter; at his siblings, for still being able to do cool things, at his parents for whatever reason they'd brought them here, at this stupid town and everyone in it and mostly at himself for being completely and utterly useless now. How does someone forget to run? He had built his entire life, his entire personality around what he was, and with it stripped away, Dash was lost. He fell into a job fixing cars at a local garage, street racing motorcycles in his spare time for the adrenaline rush he missed... and waiting for his family to find a way out or cure this memory loss before he goes ballistic.
I HAD A FEELING SO PECULIAR
❀ Gogo Tomago: The mechanic that he works closely with, Dash would probably think she was cool and all, if she wasn't faster than him on her bike. He has to bite his tongue to stop from telling her she's really not all that. ❀ Pascal Welker: Dash likes having Pascal around because he can vent to his heart's content, leaving out important details, of course, and they just nod along. It's like talking to a wall. In the best way. ❀ Francis Ferguson: Francis very well may be his absolute least favorite customer, and that's saying something. The dude is so snide, he swears if he still had his powers he'd wipe that smug grin from his face so fast.
THAT THIS PAIN WOULD BE FOR EVERMORE

Chessie
Chessie is a large serpent-like animal that allegedly lives in the Chesapeake Bay. Over the years there have been many sightings of a serpent-like creature without any flippers or horns on its body. Most sightings describe it as a long, snake-like creature, from 25 feet (7.6 m) to 40 feet (12 m) long. It is said to swim using its body as a sine curve moving through the water. There are no limbs or crests, like most snakes. There was a cluster of sightings in 1977 and more in the mid-1980s.
A photograph of an unknown sea creature taken by Trudy Guthrie in 1980 was later identified as a manatee from Florida. Manatees are unusual this far from Florida. A manatee nicknamed “Chessie” was rescued from the Chesapeake's chilly water in October 1994 and returned to Florida, but has revisited the Chesapeake several times since then. It was photographed in the Patapsco River in 2010 (unconfirmed) and near the shore of Calvert County on July 12, 2011. The more recent photograph was confirmed by U.S. Geological Survey biologists. Unlike the reports of a serpentine creature, manatees do not swim undulating from side to side.
According to Matt Lake in Weird Maryland, two perch fishermen, Francis Klarrman and Edward J. Ward, in 1943 spotted something in the water near Baltimore. This thing was about 75 yards away, at right angles from our boat. At first it looked like something floating on the water. It was black and the part of it that was out of the water seemed about 12 feet long. It has a head about as big as a football, and shaped somewhat like a horse’s head. It turned its head around several times—almost all the way around.
In 1982 Robert and Karen Frew supposedly videotaped Chessie near Kent Island Their video shows a brownish object moving side to side like an aquatic snake.
The last notable sighting of the beast was in 1997, off the shore of Fort Smallwood State Park, very close to shore.

In typical "occult enthusiast goes looking into the wrong secrets" fashion, I decided to look up odd instances around home. I was hoping for a larger iceberg, but I haven't looked into the listed ghost towns/reportedly haunted locations. (Not really on my radar)
As far as cryptids go, we got:
Chessie
A sea monster said to live in the midst of the Chesapeake Bay.
Goatman
A creature resembling a goat-human hybrid (mixed reports of satyr/faun and potentially my fursona) often credited with canine deaths and purported to take refuge in the woods of Prince George's County.
On what I've found so far regarding witch trials (1654 - 1712):
Mary Lee
In 1654, aboard the ship 'Charity of London', a rumor spread amongst the sailors that passenger Mary Lee was a witch. It's said that Captain Bosworth refused to try Mary Lee but eventually relented. Bosworth expressed interest in dropping her off in Bermuda, but cross winds prevented it. Mary Lee was captured by the sailors, and her body was searched for "the witch's mark." When they concluded they found the mark, Captain Bosworth was called to examine it. According to testimonies, Mary confessed. Bosworth was supposedly unwilling to sentence her to death and just retired to his cabin. Francis Darby, who helped search Mary's body, recalled how she was hanged by the sailors.
* The Charity of London would go on to be seized by the British in 1681
Elizabeth Bennett
In October 1666, Elizabeth Bennett was brought before the Provincial Court in Saint Mary's County. Bennett was charged with Witchraft, burglary, murder, and trespassing. In the same month, her case was deemed not presentable, and she was cleared by proclamation.
Rebecca Fowler
In September of 1685, Rebecca Fowler was tried by the provincial court of St. Mary's County. The widowed Rebecca was accused of performing witchcraft around Calvert County, even claimed to have harmed local residents. She was indicted and pleaded not guilty. Attorney General Thomas Buford ruled her guilty, and she was sentenced to be hanged early that October.
* The only person legally executed as a witch by a Maryland court
Hannah Edwards
In April 1686, recently widowed Hannah Edwards was brought to court in St. Mary's County, having been accused for the past year of being witch by Ruth Hutchinson. It was claimed that Ruth was consumed and pined for by Hannah. Hannah was indicted, pleaded not guilty, and was found to be such.
Virtue Violl
In October of 1712, Sheriff Foster Turbutt of Talbott County brought Virtue Violl to the Sheriff of Anne Arundel County to face the court. Virtue, a spinster, was accused of using witchcraft against Elinor/Ellianor Moore, who was rendered speechless. Virtue pleaded not guilty and was found as such a few days later.
Moll Dyer
Legend says Moll Dyer was accused of being a witch and was banished from Leaonardtown, Maryland. She was later found dead, frozen to a rock in the forest.
* Due to fires in both St. Mary's County and Calvert County archives in 1831, no legal records exist verifying the story of Moll Dyer.

Here are the US representatives who voted against the US pro-LGBT+ Equality Act
Tumblr media
The US Equality Act is to outlaw discrimination against LGBTQ people in housing, credit, jury service, public accommodations, and federal funding.
The House of Representatives passed the legislation yesterday, but it is unlikely that the Senate will follow up, given the Republican Party's increasing hostility to queer people. They are currently weaponizing transphobia in an attempt at mobilizing their base.
In the Senate the bill will require at least 10 Republicans to vote with all Democrats to advance past the so-called filibuster.
Metro Weekly has listed the representatives that voted against the law in the House.

NHL Expansion Draft 2021: Full list of players available for Seattle Kraken
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The NHL announced the protected lists for the 30 teams involved in the NHL Expansion Draft. (Vegas is exempt.) With the names of those protected come the guys who could be snatched up by the Seattle Kraken. There are a number of big names that have everyone trying to figure out just what general manager Ron Francis will do. Will he take Canadiens netminder, and future Hall of Famer, Carey Price and his hefty cap hit? Is Vladimir Tarasenko the sniper he needs or is his health a big question mark? There's also a number of guys who would fit in nicely but are free agents and the chances of signing them are not high (i.e. Alex Ovechkin).  EXPANSION DRAFT: Date, time, rules & more for Seattle Kraken team selectionRegardless of what Francis, coach Dave Hakstrol and Co. end up doing, there's a good chance the Kraken will be a playoff contender in just their first season. For now, let the intrigue and the guessing WWRFD (that's: what will Ron Francis do?) begin. HONORING THE LOWER MERION HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM                                 ______                            HON. JON D. FOX                            of pennsylvania                    in the house of representatives                         Friday, March 29, 1996  Mr. FOX of Pennsylvania. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to pay tribute to a group of student athletes who scaled the mountain of athletic success while keeping their feet firmly planted in the soil of educational excellence.  Recently, the boys basketball team from Lower Merion High School captured the class AAAA championship by beating a fine team from Erie Cathedral Prep 48 to 43. After streaking through a phenomenal season with a 31-3 record, the Aces captured their first State title since 1943.  This athletic achievement is a testament to their exceptional teamwork, commitment to excellence and their remarkable drive to achieve the finest in athletics. The hard work and dedication of Coach Gregg Downer, his staff and the fine young men paid off as they achieved the ultimate success for a high school basketball team in Pennsylvania.  These young men are shining examples of the best and brightest in America. Among the team members is Kobe Bryant whose 33 point average per game and stellar abilities have made him the No. 1 high school basketball player in the Nation.

Green, and        other Lakers stars, whose accomplishments were captured courtside by        legendary Lakers sportscaster Francis Dayle ``Chick/Chicky Baby'' Hearn; Whereas in the off-season, the Lakers' General Manager, Mitch Kupchak, with the        support of the team's owner, Jerry Buss, maintained the Lakers core of        Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom, Derek Fisher, Pau Gasol, and Trevor Ariza; Whereas the combination of Bryant, Odom, Fisher, Gasol, and Ariza, led the 2008-        2009 Lakers to a 65-17 regular season record and the number one spot in        the Western Conference playoffs; Whereas Ariza first came to fame as a member of the 2002 and 2003 California        State Championship teams at Westchester High School in Los Angeles,        California; Whereas the Lakers entered the NBA playoffs with home court advantage as a        result of the team's regular season performance and defeated the Utah        Jazz in 5 games; Whereas the Lakers then faced the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference        semifinals, winning in 7 games, with Pau Gasol scoring 21 points in an        89-70 victory in the deciding game; Whereas the Lakers squared off against the high-octane Denver Nuggets, clinching        the series in 6 games, thanks to the outstanding play of Pau Gasol and        Kobe Bryant; Whereas the Lakers' matchup with the Orlando Magic in the NBA finals represented        a battle between a veteran team, the Lakers, and a young Magic team, led        by Dwight Howard; Whereas the Lakers won the first 2 games of the finals in Los Angeles, including        a hard-fought Game 2, during which Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol combined        for 53 points, propelling the Lakers to a 101-96 victory; Whereas although the Lakers lost Game 3 in Orlando by a score of 108-104, NBA        fans were treated to a 31-point performance by Lakers guard Kobe Bryant,        who played all but 8 minutes of the game; Whereas the Lakers were able to defeat the Magic in Game 4 despite a 25-point        performance by Magic forward Hedo Turkoglu; Whereas the Lakers won Game 5 against the Magic by a final score of 99-86,        clinching a historic championship, Kobe Bryant's first championship        without Shaquille O'Neal, Head Coach Phil Jackson's 10th title as a        coach, and the Lakers organization's 15th championship; Whereas the Lakers recovered from a devastating loss in the 2008 NBA finals        against the Boston Celtics to win the 2009 NBA championship and achieve        historic championships for Head Coach Phil Jackson, and Kobe Bryant; Whereas the Lakers' Kobe Bryant was presented with the Bill Russell NBA Finals        Most Valuable Player Award;
111th CONGRESS  2d Session S. RES. 563 Recognizing the Los Angeles Lakers on their 2010 National Basketball Association Championship and congratulating the players, coaches, and               staff for their outstanding achievements. _______________________________________________________________________                   IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES                             June 23, 2010  Mrs. Feinstein (for herself and Mrs. Boxer) submitted the following    resolution; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary _______________________________________________________________________                               RESOLUTION Recognizing the Los Angeles Lakers on their 2010 National Basketball Association Championship and congratulating the players, coaches, and               staff for their outstanding achievements. Whereas, on June 17, 2010, the Los Angeles Lakers won the 2010 National        Basketball Association (NBA) Championship with a 83-79 victory over the        Boston Celtics in Game 7 of the NBA Finals; Whereas, during the 2010 NBA Playoffs, the Lakers defeated the Oklahoma City        Thunder, Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns, and Boston Celtics en route to the        storied franchise's 16th championship and 11th in Los Angeles; Whereas the 2010 Lakers honored the franchise's tradition of excellence that        dates back to its establishment in 1947 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where        the Lakers were named for the ``Land of 10,000 Lakes'' and won 5        championships before moving to Los Angeles in 1960; Whereas this marks the Lakers' 5th NBA championship since 1999, the most by any        franchise during that period, and matches the run by the ``Showtime''        Lakers of the 1980s that featured Hall of Fame players Earvin ``Magic''        Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and James Worthy; Whereas Phil Jackson has won more championships than any other coach in NBA        history, recording his 11th championship this year and 5th with the        Lakers; Whereas the 2010 NBA Championship marks the 10th for the Lakers owner Gerald        Hatten Buss; Whereas general manager Mitch Kupchak has built a team that has exemplified the        talent, character, and resilience necessary to repeat as NBA Champions; Whereas Kobe Bryant won his 5th NBA Championship, tying him with Earvin        ``Magic'' Johnson and Derek Fisher for the most by a Lakers player; Whereas Kobe Bryant averaged 28.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 3.9 assists during        the NBA Finals, en route to winning his 2nd consecutive NBA Finals Most        Valuable Player Award and becoming just the 8th player to win the award        on multiple occasions;
KOBE BRYANT                                 ______                                                            HON. BARBARA LEE                             of california                    in the house of representatives                      Wednesday, January 29, 2020  Ms. LEE of California. Madam Speaker, I rise today heartbroken upon hearing of the sudden passing of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and occupants Christina Mauser, Keri Altobelli, John Altobelli, Alyssa Altobelli, Payton Chester, Sarah Chester, and Ara Zobayan.  Kobe was an inspirational leader, advocate, athlete and father. He inspired people from across the world to strive for greatness, to be the best, and to invoke what he called, the Mamba Mentality.  Kobe not only inspired the people of California but the entire world. From his incredibly difficult jump shots, to his selfless charitable efforts, Kobe always worked hard to stand up for what he believed in and to be a great father to four beautiful girls whom he loved.  This unimaginable tragedy has rocked this world and left many hurt. Kobe Bryant finished his NBA career among the best to have ever played the game.  His legacy will live on forever and we must come together to support the entire Bryant family and all the families affected through this tragedy.

IL PLEUVAIT DES OISEAUX en tête des nominations du Gala Québec Cinéma 2020
Tumblr media
