This is a deeper and more detailed version of the 20 questions for AO3 fanfic writers. Thanks to @TetsujinOtaku88 for the tag. I'm doing this #Supercorp style.

1) How do you keep getting ideas for your ship / fandom?

I think the Supercorp Fandom is pretty self-perpetuating because the canon needs to be fixed and there's lots of AUs to put them in. Plus there are so many talented people whose art, video edits, and fanfic fuel each other.

2) Which authors inspire you in your fandom, and why are they so freakishly good?

Following the answer above I think the beauty of Supercorp is that it attracts really talented creators. I love reading @searidings, @jazzfordshire's fix-its and canon-adjacent stuff, @lgbtimelords, @coffeeshib, @mycatismyeditor, and @snowydragonscave just to name a few. They have such a deftness of language and an understanding of the characters that it's hard to stop reading!

3) Aside from the characters of your main ship, who are the characters you love to write?

I really love Sam Arias, Jess, and Alex. I wish I could get a better handle on Kelly because DANSEN forever. I also have a soft spot for Eliza and a deliciously evil liking for Lillian.

4) Are there pairings or tropes you know for sure you'd never write about? Which ones?

Karamel, Lames, Top Lena, Bottom Kara. To each their own. It's just not my thing.

5) What is your writing process and why is it cursed?

Carry around a little notebook to scribble ideas, lines, sometimes whole scenes. Figure out a rough outline / structure / plot. Do unnecessary amounts of research. Open doc file. Plunge into dismay and self-doubt. Watch the show. Get frustrated. Open the doc file. Be filled with despair and self-loathing. Get a blast of inspiration and productivity. Cycle through mental instability, writer's block, and actual writing. Get dragged by Kara and Lena to unanticipated places that derails what I intended to do. Sighing and doing what the muses want. The elation of completion. Struggling with summaries and tags. Posting. Crippling anxiety and running away from AO3. Lather, rinse, repeat.

6) What is your favorite part of your writing process?

The elation of completion. The unnecessary research is fun too.

7) What’s the weirdest thing you’ve had to research for a fic?

Cherry tree mutations and the structure of yakuza organizations in modern Japan.

8) Is there a particular writing rule you struggle with (grammar, spelling, tense, reality in general)?

Different tenses in the same document. Also it's and its.

9) What was your hardest scene to write so far and why?

Describing Kara's post-PZ night terrors and Lena’s fever dreams in Deliverance. Also the action sequence at the end of that story was so difficult.

10) Have your characters ever done something you didn’t expect, changing your plot completely?

ALL THE TIME.

11) If you could converse with any of the characters, who would it be and why?

Both of them. After I come to my senses and out of a dead faint because I was meeting them at all. And then I would die of sapphication.

12) What are some of the tropes or themes that you find yourself returning to in your writing?

Oh my usual tags are: light angst, tooth-rotting fluff, friends-to-lovers, Lena needs a hug, Kara gets a hug.

13) What's your most important resource as a writer?

Talking with other writers!

14) Can you share some of your strategies for editing and revising your work?

I usually give it some time before I edit so I can have relatively fresh eyes. Spell checking, punctuation, and grammar suggestions help you catch things but NOTHING beats reading it over yourself.

15) Which is worse: making the summary, picking the tags, or the anxiety when you post your fic?

Definitely the anxiety!!!

16) How do you define sucess for your fanfic - hits? Kudos? Comments? Bookmarks? Or just if you like it?

I think it's good to track kudos and I love getting comments. But ultimately I wrote for my enjoyment or for my peace of mind because the idea would not let me go.

17) Do you have a playlist for your favorite character / ship?

Nope but that's not a bad idea. 🤔

18) If fan art was going to be made from your work, which fic would you pick and which fan artist would you like to create it?

Wow I'd be thrilled if any of them got art. I am partial to the way @rustingcat draws Sakura blossoms though so maybe Cat for No Wrong Seasons.

19) How many WIPs do you currently have?

8 total. Finishing "the Arcana", "The Sound of Veracity" (Part 2), Prequel and Smutilogue of "Always With Me, Always With You", Supercorptober 2023 "Art" prompt, SG Mayhem fic, the Telepathy/Empathy fic, the Body Swap fic.

20) What's your advice to new fanfic writers?

I posted my first Supercorp story in March 2023 feeling it would be completely lost in this large fandom and having no hope for it. I felt that I was too late. That everything had been done (and done better). I did find readers who liked and some who really loved my work. But mostly I learned to write for myself, which has truly been a gift. Write for yourself. Write what you'd want to see. You'll get better at it over time.

1- How many works do you have on AO3?

With today's publishing of Clockwork (which has a moodboard I'm super proud of 😭), I have 19 works!

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

204,675 words! A few are missing since I haven't uploaded my most recent ficlets yet.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Supergirl :) Generally supercorp, though I do have a dansen ficlet, and my first rojarias fic will be out in a couple months for @supergirlmayhem!

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

No One and Nothing (season 4 rift) So I Kept Pretending (my first fic 🥺) Synthesis (season 2 fix-it) Inauthentic (pink kryptonite finale fix-it... it's not what you think!!) Iridescent (season 5 rift fic)

5. Do you respond to comments?

I do!!

When I first started, I actually thought you weren't "supposed" to respond to all your comments. I eventually decided to throw that thought out the window, because I'm really grateful for comments and want to thank people. They really do mean the world to authors ❤️

(If someone has multiple in a row, I usually respond to just one in a cluster, but I appreciate all of them!)

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I'm only capable of happy endings.

That said, Darkness in All Things and Iridescent had the most... complication in their endings. Things aren't perfect, but all the relevant characters are alive and happy.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

They are all happy 😌

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I've gotten comments from some known trolls and a couple of rude folks. It's worth noting that even the big authors get them, so I largely ignore/delete them.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I have written smut once. I will do it at least once more. It tends to lean towards soft, and I find myself kind of terrified to throw smutty things into the world. (I think this is the ex-Catholic trauma talking.)

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I haven't written a crossover. This tweet is the best I've got on that front 🤣

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of. (I have no idea why people even do this... how do you feel proud of something you didn't even do?)

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Not that I know of.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nope! I've never even had a fic beta'd. The idea of either of those terrifies me.

14. What's your all time favorite ship?

Xena/Gabrielle will always be dearest to my heart. I just never felt the need to write for that ship - the show gave me almost everything I wanted. (If you ever watch it, make sure to watch season 6 in spaghetti order.)

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

None! I only have 2 published WIPs, both of which I'm super excited to complete (they were started earlier this year). For my unpublished WIPs, I'm pretty confident in them too.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think I come up with good plots to explore the characters with.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Writing 😭 I have this story in my head that I want to tell - how the characters change and are interpreted and all that - but I find I never get close to conveying what I actually want. Writing is very hard!

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Eep, I don't want to screw up another language. I occasionally include kryptonese when it feels natural, but otherwise I don't do this.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Supercorp got me writing fanfiction, and for that I am very grateful.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

This is a hard one.

Almost every fic, when I write it, is like my CHILD. It usually becomes my favorite - or at least top 3 - for the time I am writing it.

I will say Even Though You're Kryptonian (which, coincidentally, was the 20,000th supercorp fic). It started off as a lark to use some ideas I thought I'd never get around to otherwise, but ended up weaving together better than I thought it would.

But that's an answer that changes by the day.

Last movie: The second spiderverse movie. It was too fast for me, but it seemed cool. Good vibes. I do enjoy animation and stylized cg over live action, so I am glad these movies are doing so well, but I think this is it for me on watching any more.

Currently watching: Just finished binge watching The Good Place. An extremely solid show. Well rounded, funny, great acting. Cathartic ending. Cried about it a lot thinking of the message it's trying to convey. Eleanor and Michael were my favorites, but that's no surprise that I like the Arizona trashbag and the fire squid demon in a Ted Dansen suit.

Currently reading: Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio, by Pu Songling. And as always, Modao Zushi every time I have to check something for my donghua rewatch. And slowly catching up with The road to reunion by Onomatopoetikon (prequel movie xmen ff)

Currently working on: Still in the process of my Extensive Note Taking rewatch of the Founder of Diabolism (mdzs) donghua. I am mostly done with notes up to s2, but I binged s3 again because I wanted to write instead of take notes (WIP doc available on the CX Heaven discord). s3 continues to make me so angry I am not sure how I'll convince myself to do the full note taking. Comparing each episode to relevant novel sections is also emotionally taxing, in the sheer damage that the donghua does to the Twin Heroes relationship... so! This will be a while... but this an underlying project for my fem-mxy!wwx fic which ... may... take the place of "mainfic" for ever getting published? Jury is still out on that.

Current obsession: MDZS themed brainrot continues to make a marshy bog of my psyche. Chengxian, Twin Heroes, and Jiang Cheng in that order, but surprisingly I seem to be writing and thinking more about WWX in all my WIPs and I just noticed? Predominately, I have been writing these stories from his perspective 😅 Zoids au, naga!jc au, majority of fem!mxy au, jc wolfcurse post-canon, White Hair Wuxian smutty oneshot... Maybe it's just easier to write him because the novel is a baseline but also I think I understand and respect his multiverse shidivision.

Several types of war fans were used by the samurai class of feudal Japan and each had a different look and purpose.One particularly famous legend involving war fans concerns a direct confrontation between Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin at the fourth battle of Kawanakajima. Kenshin burst into Shingen's command tent on horseback, having broken through his entire army, and attacked; his sword was deflected by Shingen's war fan. It is not clear whether Shingen parried with a tessen, a dansen uchiwa, or some other form of fan. Nevertheless, it was quite rare for commanders to fight directly, and especially for a general to defend himself so effectively when taken so off-guard.

I'm very curious about your Enchanted spinoff for Rojarias and the TWH - Dansen AU fic… If you want to comment further

The Enchanted Rojarias spin off, starts in the scene where Andrea uses the Obsidian Lenses, and she sees herself having dinner and Sam arrives and call herself her girlfriend.

Thing is, that whatever she was seeing via lenses, everyone else in the room was seeing too, because they were testing the tech. And that's how Sam figured out Andrea's feelings for her. Within the original fic, I just mention details, about their relationship. How Andrea had been pinning for Sam, but she never made her feelings known because Sam is married (for plot reasons), and how by the end of that fic, after some time has passed, they are actually together.

This fic is meant to fill in the gaps. However, I do have another rojarias fic, I want to finish first. Anyways, HERE, a enchanted spinoff snippet that I was going to paste here but it made this ask extremely long.

The TWH - Dansen AU was an idea that came from the SYNOPSIS of the way home when the show was first announced. I had really no idea what the show was about but i said DANSEN. Tbh, I only have the general outline, because this one will, very likely be a multichapter.

It starts with Alex being more of a MD than DEO agent, she does meet Maggie, they get engaged, they do have the fight about the kids, and Alex just like in the show just goes with Maggie's wish to not have kids. They get married, but as years pass, Alex gets more and more depressed about having kids. And now is Maggie who relents, and they decide to adopt.

Just like in s4, they get called about this young woman who was giving her yet to be born baby to the couple, and Maggie gets more and more anxious about the kid thing. Birth mom gets an scare, think Braxton Hicks, and Maggie has just a break down about how much she doesn't want to have a kid. And they both get hit by the realization that it could never work, they would always resent each other. The adoption agency is like look, birth mom wants a couple, so you can't adopt this kid, but we have this alien kid who we've problems with because she doesn't like anyone & she escapes all of her foster homes, etc, etc, and Alex have experience with aliens (because DEO) so maybe you can talk with her?

Enters Esme, the 5-years-old with an attitude and powers she can't really control. So Alex gets a foster kid, and a divorce happening in the background. Esme gets in all kinds of trouble because of her powers, & Alex starts flaking at work to take care of whatever mayhem the kid creates. Kara's like 'i want to help you, but every time i get closer to her she loses control really quick' taking her powers. Alex considers power dampening tech, but instead quits her job and moves with her kid back to Midvale. To a calmer place so Esme can learn about control.

Her relationship with Eliza is strained, to say the least. She's not all on board with the job quitting and the divorce but she helps Alex find a job at the local tiny hospital, and she's great with Esme.

Esme starts opening up, but she also starts having nightmares and panic attacks… It's a tiny town, so mental health facilities are lacking, but there is this therapist that just moved in a few months back.

Kelly is looking for a fresh start after her fiancée died. She takes in Esme, and they form a really strong bond. To Esme, Kelly's a friend

Kelly really cares about the kid too, and Alex starts seeing her like a friend too, instead of her kid's therapist. They get into this weird moral dilemma of 'there can't be anything more than this, it's unethical.' But to a 5 years old kid, that doesn't exist. And she's determined to get her mom(!) to date her best friend(!) Kelly.

It gets more complicated when Maggie shows up still without signing the divorce papers but willing to try with their relationship. Alex's like ‘I have a kid now, you cannot waltz back into my life and then leave again because you changed your mind. They decide to try couple counseling with the one (1) therapist in town.

Meanwhile, Esme is pissed about Maggie, showing up to romance her mom, and ruining her 'operation'. She regresses to her 'bad behavior' and she's suspended from school. Eliza picks her up and at work, Esme gets the power from a time traveler alien... More drama.

Like I said, it would TOTALLY have to be a multichapter, which is why I have not written it yet, because I'm scared of it.

Halloween costumes 2023. Supergirl edition.

This years theme for the CatCo Halloween party is the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Karamel. Nomad Steve x Scarlet Witch. It turned out to be very difficult for Kara NOT to fly everywhere that night. Mon El’s hair was the perfect length for Nomad Steve. They’re keeping both costumes for a rather more intimate use.

Dansen. Doctor Banner x Civil War Black Widow. Admittedly it was lazy on Alex’s part. But she just didn’t feel like spray painting her entire body green. On the bright side. Kelly won twenty bucks off Morgan Edge for beating him at one armed pushups. They’re also keeping the Bruce Banner costume.

Brania. Dane Whitman x Sersi. Ironically. Brainy’s costume took more time to put together than Nia’s. He was oddly particular about what scarf looked ordinarily human enough. Nia had to promise not to make her costume her regular superhero outfit because it was so comfortable that she never wanted to take it off.

James x Lucy. Langdyne. Lucy even had a suit that allowed her to fly. Albeit temporarily. Kara was INCREDIBLY jealous. They won the impressions contest.

Winn x Samantha. Starmora. They won the dance competition. And Samantha realised she’s got a thing for men with facial hair. You learn something new everyday.

Cat. Melina Vostokoff. She lost a bet to Morgan Edge. She was uncomfortable the entire night and she’s never wearing boots again.

J’onn. Nick Fury. All he had to do was generate an eyepatch with his shapeshifting abilities. He won second place in the costume contest.

Eliza. Frigga Odinson. Yes, she wore it last year. But why mess with success?

William. Kingo. He won the costume contest. Mostly because Kingo is the favourite character of the costume contests judge.

Andre. Agatha Harkness. It was very accurate to the tv show. But the judge was very biased towards Eternals. So Andrea lost

Carter. Spider-Man. He even built a device that enabled him to walk on the walls and the ceiling. He was the judge for the costume contest. Eternals is his favourite MCU film. And Kingo’s his favourite character. So William won

Ruby. Kate Bishop. She had Samantha worried out of her mind for a week what with all the archery practice she insisted on doing to make the costume as accurate as possible. She ended up shooting Lena in the foot.

Morgan Edge. Doctor Selvig. Thankfully it was the 2011 version not the post tesseact version. Because nobody would’ve like that. Except perhaps Cat.

Lord’n’Luthor. Just like always. They just wore their regular clothes. And also just always. They got laughed and locked out of the building

I have a Supercorp idea that I don’t have the strength mentally to write and I can’t get it out of my head. It can even be a social media au… but basically Instagram/tinder!au.

Kara, carpenter/lumberjack, midvale, and her profile is dogs, camping, lots of axe chopping. Man with pot type cooking /theme of plate photos. Many of her and friends/Alex/Eliza/Lucy and Maggie too. James + Winn (mostly Winn cause they're in a d&d campaign together.)

Lena: ceo, NC/metrop, vacation photos, photos of her volunteering, / lots of pr photos, her priv is Sam, Andrea, ruby, kelly, sometimes James, unfortunately.

Which brings us to how they meet.

James + Winn are dating

Lena flies to the wedding to be Kelly's "date" but mostly cause she and Winn are nerd friends since james introduced them one night.

So...

BC Kara and Winn are like siblings, (same foster system?) Kara is also at wedding. Alex was her "date" (that's how Alex meets kelly if you want dansen idc)

Their Tinders ping as they turn their phones in at the reception after all speeches.

Kara's eyes bug, "Lena Luthor is in my radius?" Bc Alex, herself, Winn and Eliza idolize that woman's work with aliens, science and just her in general.

She very quickly matches, and her first DM:

"I could build you a library big enough, and bigger if you need me too"

As soon as Lena ready the message, she drops her phone number +"marry me." Kindajokingbutalsonot

"Okay.i know a guy."

They find each other at the reception, they're later found, the day later, covered in Hickeies(Lena) and lipstick-stained (Kara) and Lena kinda limped..

And.... Matching rings?

Oh yeah, also got hitched lastnight too. (sober.) And of course Lena somehow got them rings at that ridiculous hour

thank you for your lovely response and for science headcanon post, i especially enjoy when people take random bits of their own knowledge that isn’t so common (like the stable marriage/roommate problem you explained) and find a way to put that into their fics and headcanons. i actually laughed out loud when lena started talking mitochondrial dna in your fic (the not having any extra dna on hand bit made ZERO sense to me as well, especially since the show was written and aired after covid hit and every news program in the world had explained what PCR was ad nauseam). it just makes the world feel that much more real with these little details carefully thought through. excited for your other fics as well, both supercorp and otherwise!

i love how once you headcanon a character enough they will interrupt you to say ‘no, i wouldn’t do that, that makes no sense, i would do -this-‘ and completely derail what you had in mind for them also :D

Hmm, I haven’t yet - I actually haven’t read many AUs in general, right now canon just has a grip on me that I can’t let go of!

In Supergirl? Oh, plenty 👀

Brainia and Dansen are fantastic. I really wish Dansen had gotten more screen time.

For Lena (still with supercorp endgame): I headcanon Lena/Andrea in the past - I actually forget that it’s not canon, I cannot read the whole Titanic thing as anything but gay. I like Lena/Jack as a past ship, too.

For Kara (still with supercorp endgame): I think Kara/Lucy or Kara/Kate or Kara/Leslie all have potential, in that order. The LOSH movie gave me some affinity for Kara/Brainy, too, though I don’t really adopt that into the Arrowverse.

Non-supercorp non-canon ships: I like Imra/Gayle, Alex/Sam, Sam/Andrea, probably a few others that I'm forgetting...

For the most part, they don't kidnap my mind into creating a fic, but they're sort in the sea of tangent Supergirl thoughts (along with all the other scenes and snippets and story ideas... occasionally ideas in that sea start aggregating, and then I'm compelled to write a fic).

I guess I regret a normal amount of experiences, such as times where I was more ignorant than I am now. But I'm generally of the belief that the past is in the past, and there's no point in regretting it, because that's what life is about. You never stop growing. I made mistakes back then, and I'll make new ones tomorrow, and learn from them. But when you ask me 'what do I regret', I'd say I regret the way I acted towards an online person I knew when I was in middle school. They ghosted me and every now and then I wonder if they're doing okay. I'll never know though.

Hmmm, unpopular opinion. Pineapple on pizza is actually just fine, as someone who's tried it, and I know a lot of people just jump on the 'pineapple on pizza bad' bandwagon because they've never tried it. It's perfectly acceptable to try it and not like it though

I smiled today because I saw Ted Dansen on a commercial and I love him ❤️

Picnics are great!! I've never had the convenienc conventional 'blanket on grass' type, but I've eaten outside at picnic tables with family and it's great!

The last song I listened to is that funny breakdancing meme song, it's called Intense - Only You (I believe)
