Happy New Year!

 Happy New Year to all the friends of the Mind of Smoothie! 

For the past couple of years I released an episode of the Mind of Smoothie podcast on New Year's day. Unfortunately there is no episode today. But that doesn't mean that an episode isn't on it's way. 

Coming this Thursday a new episode will be released. On the next episode of the podcast we will be looking at the 1981 film Ghostkeeper!

I initially considered this film for last year's "New Year" selection but went with Bloody New Year instead. I will say that after re-watching this film again and watching a few other reviews about the film, I think I gained a deeper appreciation for it. I will say that it might not be for everyone, but I definitely think it is worth checking out at least one time.

Ghostkeeper (1981)

A move with a nice atmosphere and eerie secluded location, but not much else. There is a story, and in general it seems like it's going somewhere. Like, information is being given which feels like it is building up to something, but then it just doesn't, ending with a weak twist that feels like they ran out of money to film the real ending—incidentally, that is what the legends say is what happened.

This 1981 Canadian spooker has some pretty decent things going for it as it takes some cues from The Shining and gives it its own flavor. Good one to check out on a cold dark night for sure.

Weird old woman who feeds people to a Wendigo .THis movie is a hidden gem

9.Emeric Belasco from The Legend of Hell House (1973)

This guy interestring cause he's already dead when the story begins ,and we see him only once and hear his voice once ......But this dude was such a nasty dude in life and as a ghost he has continued to be a vile dude.He's a presence we feel through out the movie

8.Captain Rhodes from Day of the Dead (!985)

Well known among horror fans but not a household name so I feel he counts . Rhodes is a psychotic military leader and a guy who you just want the zombies to get

7.John Gray from the Body Snatcher (!945)

Graverobber,murderer ,and all around asshole who loves holding his tiny bit of power over a respected doctor

6.Edward Lionheart from Theatre of Blood (1973)

A Shakespearian actor who murders his critics in ways inspired by the bard . This guy is a ton of fun

5.Ygor from Son of Frankenstein (1939)

Oh yeah his name is famous but the actual character has been gorgotten .A graverobber who survived a hanging ,who has befriended Frankensteins Monster ,and has been using him to dispose of his enemies . Easilly Bela Lugosis greatest performance

4.Conal Cochran from Halloween III Season of the Witch (!982)

When this film came out people complained that Michael Myers wasnt in it. I personallly feel we get one hell of a replacement with Conal Cochran ,head of corperation that makes Halloween masks,who wants to go back to the old days ,planning to use his masks to kill children .Played to perfection by the great Dan O'Herlihy ,this guy is one of the great horror villains no one talks about

3.The Gemini Killer from Exorcist 3 (!990)

Huh, lot of villains from franchises third installments ....Weird . Anyway,a killer who has posessed the body of a priest ,this guy is chilling . Also find the fact he is played by two actors very interesting ,as he is played by both Brad Douriff and Jason Miller(Douriff as the killer ,Miller as the man the killer is posessing ),and both do a phenomenal job

2.Eva Galli from Ghost Story (1981)]

One of the scariest villains ever .A woman wronged ,back for vengence.Not gonna say more about her ,just watch the movie

1."Davy" from Tourist Trap (!979)

I cant say much about this guy ,cept he is a masked nutjob with telekintic powers ,who turns people into mannequins and speaks in a creepy croaking voice .One of the scariest villains I have ever seen and wonderfully played by his actor ( Who I cant say who it is cause its a spoiler )

Ghostkeeper (!981)

Very low budget but very atmospheric horror film that more people need to see

Phantom of the Opera (1943)

Not the scariest film out there nor is it a faithful version of the book ,but its still a damn good movie ,with good humor and Claude Raines as a sympathetic yet very creepy Phantom

Dracula (1979)

Romantic ,stylish ,with great performances by Frank Langella ,Lawrence Olivier and Donald Pleasence

Tourist Trap (1979)

One of the scariest movies I have ever seen ,and proof you can be terrifying with a PG rating .Plus Chuck Connors is great

Ghost Story (1981)

Great cast including Fred Astaire ,Melvyn Douglas ,Douglas Fairbanks Jr and John Houseman ,Alice Krige giving a terrifying performance ,and HAUNTING MAKEUP THAT HAS LITTERALLY GIVEN ME NIGHTMARES
