Self made things is a perfect way to say how much you care. It doesn't have to be big, expensive or time consuming. It doesn't have to be high skilled or perfect.
This winter I crocheted a scarf for my mother, sewed a tie bow for my father in law, baked gingerbreads for my sister in law, my mother and my sister.
I also plan to make something for my sister, still haven't thought about what it wil be yet.
Recipe for a delicious and easy made gingerbread, taken from the original recipe from Reims in France :
250g half wholemeal rye flour
250g acacia honey
175ml water
1 bag of baking powder
10g of gingerbread mix spices (a lot spicy but delicious for gingerbread lovers). You can lower to 7g for more delicate people.
Put water and honey on a saucepan until it melts (low temperature, max 30°C)
Put flour, baking powder and spices on a bowl and stir.
Turn on your hover at 150°C to prewarm it.
Put the water/honey liquid in the bowl and stir until it's homogeneous.
Put the mixture in a cake mold and place it in the hover for 1 hour.
Unmold it, let it cool down, and put it in a plastic wrap. It will be delicious for at least one week.

Pryaniki Recipe.
(Because these things are too damn good)
.5 c. Instant coffee
.5 c. Hot water
1 c. Butter
1 c. Sugar
1.5 c. Honey
2 tsp. Vanilla extract
.5 tsp. Mint extract
.5 tsp. Allspice
.25 tsp. Nutmeg
.5 tsp. Ground aniseed
1 tsp. Cinnamon
.5 tsp. Cardamom
2 tsp. Ginger
.5 tsp. Cloves
2 eggs
1.5 tsp. Baking soda dissolved in
1 tsp. White vinegar
1.5 tsp. Baking powder
6 c. Flour
Almond glaze (recipe to follow)
Dissolve instant coffee with hot water in a small saucepan. Add butter, sugar,and honey to pan. Bring to a boil on medium heat and cook, stirring until butter melts and sugar dissolves. Mixture should be homogeneous. Remove from heat and pour into a large bowl. Cool 15 minutes.
Add spices and extracts. Whisk in eggs, baking soda mixture, and baking powder. Add flour a cup at a time and mix until completely encorporated.
Cover cookie dough and sit at room temperature to cure 4 hours or overnight.
Preheat oven to 325°F.(162°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Shape dough into walnut-sized balls and place onto sheets. Bake in preheated 0ven 20-25 minutes. Do not overbake, or cookies may become hard. Cool completely.
Dip cookies in glaze, bottoms first, followed by the tops after the bottoms have dried. Letting excess glaze run off. Store cookies in a sealed container at least three days before eating, though a week is preferable.
Almond Glaze
4.5 c. Powdered sugar
.5 c. Milk
.25 tsp. Almond extract
In a large bowl whisk together all ingredients, adding additional milk as needed until glaze consistency is reached.
