Mumbai (Maharashtra) , September 28 (AF): Gul Panag will be seen sharing screen space with Samridhi Dewan, Sheeba Chadha, and Vaibhav Raj Gupta in 'Good Bad Girl', a new series which will be out on October 14.
Set against the backdrop of Mumbai, The Sony LIV show 'Good Bad Girl' revolves around Maya Ahuja, a lively, bubbly, and quirky girl who has three different stories to tell. The series reflects on how people, rules, cultures, societies, and laws impact the mind of a 7-year-old to turn her into a crafty and manipulative person by the time she is 28.Talking about the show, Gul said, "I was quite intrigued by the script and the show's concept. The story comes with a lot of spunk yet is an everyday story that the audiences will relate to and have a good laugh. The characters are all quirky and freshly written, with various layers to them which add the right spice to the story. I'm playing a lawyer for the first time, and my character Zaina Mistry is the one who balances out the eccentricities of the other characters in the show. She is the voice of reason, much like how I am in real life as well. The show brings a bunch of talented artists under a roof which has made the journey of filming incredible. I am looking forward to its launch on Sony LIV and the audience's reaction to it."
'Good Bad Girl' is helmed by Abhishek Sengupta and produced by Vikas Bahl and Anurag Shrivastava. (AF)

The MOST Important Thing (Part 2 - Love)
Before moving to part 3, I want to discuss the rewards from an RVA cycle - and in a romance VN it can’t just be a more advanced touching or sexual act. Most theorize love can be broken down into many forms of love. These breakdowns can get into a complex number of variations of how we love others. Without going into too much debate, and for the sake of brevity, let’s assume there are three to four types of love. See the attached video for more.
School of Life - 3 loves (Eros, Philia, Agape):

C.S. Lewis defines 4 loves (Eros, Affection, Friendship, and Charity):

————————————————————-
Note: Let me state that both discussions of 3-4 types of Love, imo, are simplistic and that Love is too fluid and complex to be contained in 3-4 categories and not flow into and spill over into multiple categories all at the same time. But, for discussion sake, let us flow with playing with these concepts and how they can inform an adult VN.
—————————————————————————————————
Love is the main goal in a Romantic Adult VN.
Yes - a “Romantic Adult VN (geared toward males)” as a genre that will have, by its very nature, nudity and sex. However, the goal of the main character is not nudity and sex.
Take swashbuckling films - swordplay is a critical element to that genre. However, swordplay is not the main character’s goal in Captain Blood, Pirates of the Caribbean, Princess Bride, and The Mask of Zorro. Swordplay is the means getting to MC’s goal, but it is not the goal.
In a Romantic Adult VN, sex is not the goal; Love is the goal.————————
If Love is the goal, then a view of Love as a variety of complex and interrelated relationship states is helpful to a complex and robust Romantic VN.
Take two fiction tropes:
The MC’s “Best Female Friend”; and
The “Hot Experienced Girl” the MC is trying to reel in.

If Love is the goal, then a view of Love as a variety of complex and interrelated relationship states is helpful to a complex and robust Romantic VN.
Take three fiction tropes:
The MC’s Best Female Friend;
The Serial Romantic Girl; and
The Hot Experienced Girl the MC is trying to reel in.
——
The Best (female) Friend: In this instance, the MC and female character have an established relationship preceding the beginning of the VN. Realistically, they already have points toward the Love scorecard. For simplicity sake, let’s assume the suggested “3 Loves” from above. This BF Female is coming into the story with loads of Philia. Any MC advancement with BF Female would primarily be in the Eros aspect of Love. The Philia aspect can play as both as aid and hinderance to the Eros advancement. On one hand, they can realistically be in situations for romance to blossom; on the other hand there is the breaks caused by being in the friend Zone for so long.
The Love goal/reward for this relationship would run along the Eros path.

The Serial Romantic Girl: This character falls in and out of love with their love interests. Getting to full Romantic Love is not an issue her. In fact, it she seems to want to get to that state as fast as possible, bypassing the other aspects of a relationship that would strengthen it for the long term.
The Love goal/reward for this relationship might be a combination of Philia and Agape.
The Hot Experienced Girl: This character is easy to have sex with, but you have to work to get to the states of Love. She could be a Good-Bad Girl with whom on can build up Eros and Philia advancement; or a Vamp with whom Eros and Philia might be extremely difficult to gain. Other variations might be the Gold Digger, Free Love Flower Child, or Love Goddess.
The Love goal could be any combination depending on the character’s nature and goals.

——————————————-
This ends with two points:
(1) Love is the goal of the VN - sex is the by-product of, precondition for, and/or means to that Love.
(2) When the MC has sex with a character in the VN, and Love is not the goal, then there should be some plot or character arc reason. Is it to show the callousness of the MC; the vulnerable and manipulable nature of the MC; or perhaps it is a way for MC to get the MacGuffin in the plot. If not, then imo sex-for-sex-sake is a wasted opportunity.
Since VNs are finite in length, I posit that all sex should add to the plot, or to setting the environment, or to character development. Otherwise it is empty calories in the form of masturbation.
It’s all about Love, baby. All about Love.
