When a train filled with a large transport of Jewish prisoners arrived at one of the Nazi killing centers, many Polish gentiles came out to watch the latest group as they were taken away. As the disoriented Jews were gathering their possessions to take with them into the camp, a Nazi officer in charge called out to the villagers standing nearby, "Anything these Jews leave behind you may take for yourselves, because for sure they will not be coming back to collect them!"

Two Polish women who were standing nearby saw a woman towards the back of the group, wearing a large, heavy, expensive coat. Not waiting for someone else to take the coat before them, they ran to the Jewish woman and knocked her to the ground, grabbed her coat and scurried away.

Moving out of sight of the others, they quickly laid the coat down on the ground to divide the spoils of what was hiding inside. Rummaging through the pockets, they giddily discovered gold jewelry, silver candlesticks and other heirlooms. They were thrilled with their find, but as they lifted the coat again, it still seemed heavier than it should. Upon further inspection, they found a secret pocket, and hidden inside the coat was .... a tiny baby girl!

Shocked at their discovery, one woman took pity and insisted to the other, "I don't have any children, and I'm too old to give birth now. You take the gold and silver and let me have the baby." The Polish woman took her new "daughter" home to her delighted husband. They raised the Jewish girl as their own, treating her very well, but never telling her anything about her history. The girl excelled in her studies and even became a doctor, working as a pediatrician in a hospital in Poland.

When her "mother" passed away many years later, a visitor came to pay her respects. An old woman invited herself in and said to the daughter, "I want you to know that the woman that passed away last week was not your real mother ..." and she proceeded to tell her the whole story. She did not believe her at first, but the old woman insisted.

"When we found you, you were wearing a beautiful gold pendant with strange writing on it, which must be Hebrew.

I am sure that your mother kept the necklace. Go and see for yourself." Indeed, the woman went into her deceased mother's jewelry box and found the necklace just as the elderly lady had described. She was shocked. It was hard to fathom that she had been of Jewish descent, but the proof was right there in her hand. As this was her only link to a previous life, she cherished the necklace. She had it enlarged to fit her neck and wore it every day, although she thought nothing more of her Jewish roots.

Some time later, she went on holiday abroad and came across two Jewish boys standing on a main street, trying to interest Jewish passersby to wrap Tefillin on their arms (for males) or accept Shabbos candles to light on Friday afternoon (for females). Seizing the opportunity, she told them her entire story and showed them the necklace. The boys confirmed that a Jewish name was inscribed on the necklace but did not know about her status. They recommended that she write a letter to their mentor, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, explaining everything. If anyone would know what to do, it would be him.

She took their advice and sent off a letter that very same day. She received a speedy reply saying that it is clear from the facts that she is a Jewish girl and perhaps she would consider using her medical skills in Israel where talented pediatricians were needed. Her curiosity was piqued and she traveled to Israel where she consulted a Rabbinical Court (Beit Din) who declared her Jewish. Soon she was accepted into a hospital to work, and eventually met her husband and raised a family.

In August 2001, a terrorist blew up the Sbarro cafe in the center of Jerusalem. The injured were rushed to the hospital  where this woman worked. One patient was brought in, an elderly man in a state of shock. He was searching everywhere for his granddaughter who had become separated from him.

Asking how she could recognize her, the frantic grandfather gave a description of a gold necklace that she was wearing. Eventually, they finally found her among the injured patients.

At the sight of this necklace, the pediatrician froze. She turned to the old man and said, "Where did you buy this necklace?"

"You can't buy such a necklace," he responded, "I am a goldsmith and I made this necklace. Actually I made two identical pieces for each of my daughters. This is my granddaughter from one of them, and my other daughter did not survive the war."

And this is the story of how a Jewish girl, brutally torn away from her mother on a Nazi camp platform almost sixty years ago, was reunited with her father .....

The F.O.W.L. agent squinted in the darkness, trying to make out the massive shape looming over her, choking her. “T-Twenty-Two?” 

22’s voice was a low, terrifying growl. “What did you do to my granddaughter?” 

The grip around her neck lessened slightly, giving her the ability to finally, finally gasp for air. “Wha- you- you have a granddaugh- auh!” 

Pressure was immediately reapplied to her throat, and Heron’s one hand scrabbled helplessly at the fist around her neck. She squeezed her eyes shut as 22 leaned in closer, her voice the deadliest whisper Heron had ever heard. “Don’t play dumb, I know this was your doing. What did you do to her?” 

Heron managed to swallow. “Who-” 

22 sat up slightly, allowing the F.O.W.L. agent to catch a glimpse of the rest of her body in the darkness. There, curled against 22 with her face buried in her large shoulder, was a small white duckling, dressed in pink. Though Heron hadn’t seen the child in years, she recognized her immediately. 

“A-April?”

She showed little compassion and love for her only child, resenting him for “ruining her life” and constantly reminding him of this throughout his upbringing. - She constantly abuses her son, forces him into humiliating performances as a child because that’s the only value she sees in him (as she openly tells him), neglects any emotional needs he has even when he’s begging for support, insults and berates him non-stop, and blames him for her own unhappiness openly. the gay community house had a little birthday celebration saturday morning and i went with my sister and it was packed -- so many more people and so much more noise than i can usually tolerate, but the community house is so positively associated to me that it felt more like a family gathering than a scary loud crowd and i managed perfectly fine despite the crowd being mostly people i'd never met before. the atmosphere is still friends.

a older lady came and sat by me and my sister and made conversation and confided in us that she was "not one of the people, but my granddaugh-my grandchild just told me she was a boy now," and was here to "meet the community and try to learn how to do it right." she was lovely, mixed up everyone's pronouns, ate a lot of muffins, and earnestly took photos of every bookshelf to try and get books to read for later to learn more. a little lanky 13-year-old creature who was there for the first time attatched themselves to my little group like a limpet and was excited that i wanted to listen to their jokes and took me up on an offer to show them around. they ended up finding the little art room where most of the other small creatures were hanging out and started making buttons in a fury. and i managed to coax my old housemate's girlfriend, who is bisexual but mormon and had never been connected to the local community, into coming and she did show up eventually! she missed the kolaches but ended up eating some of the other free food anyway and listened to the live music and met some nice people and told me that she had been too afraid to come alone but that now she knew what it was like she wanted to try the bisexual friend group meeting on tuesdays.

The “When the Sun Shines on a New Hope” Ships (Belated Valentine’s Day special!)

Hello, hello, my dear friends! This is your hostess with the mostess, Miss Kani, and love is in the air (or at least, it was yesterday)! Hope you’re all doing well today.

So, to celebrate the belated occasion, I figured going ahead and explaining the ships thus far in When the Sun Shines on a New Hope! All of them will be displayed in the cut below. Now, let’s get started!

Edward Atkins and Henry Grennan

Probably the most established couple so far in this human AU. Edward is rather supportive and dedicated to Henry, while Henry does occasionally experience anxiety as a result of his previous accident with the Flying Kipper. Regardless, Henry does love his jobs and thanks to Edward, he is able to find some ways to cope if he ever feels distressed. Currently, Henry is deciding to move in with Edward at his home near the Tidmouth household.

Gordon Considine and Booker “BoCo” Williams

Both of them first met thanks to Edward, but they first interacted when Bill and Ben were being little shits menaces and trying to torment Gordon with riddles until BoCo decided to calm the twins down and save him. Ever since, Gordon had noticed that BoCo was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. Gordon does get easily flustered when BoCo decides to show him affection, but their relationship has grown to become something more thanks to Edward.

Toby and Henrietta Liechti

The old married couple of the Tidmouth household, who looks after Thomas, Percy, and Mavis. Similar to Henry and Edward, they both follow a supportive and loving relationship (with one person experiencing anxiety). As wise as Toby is, he does experience a few hiccups due to overthinking and difficulty with adapting. As a result, Henrietta is always there by his side in order to support her husband and make sure he feels safe.

Oliver Greenwell and Lucian “Toad” Hargrave

Toad is the ray of sunshine to Oliver’s stormy days. Both of them were childhood friends that grew up in the same village, and even when they had faced danger and even near death/“scrap”, Oliver vowed to do what he could to protect Toad. Both of them have received their own respective scars (especially Oliver), but their close friendship eventually blossomed into a romance. While Oliver does sometimes get busy with detective work, he does what he can to make time for Toad and even enjoys some of his hobbies with him, such as visiting the aquarium and looking at whales.

Donald McIntosh and Kani Okimoto

An opposites attract deal. Donald is a charming jokester who can be rather protective if need be (especially when it concerns his brother Douglas and the other Little Western Squad members), while Kani is a devoted young lady who is able to perform her tasks with ease but becomes easily flustered when she messes up the smallest things. She… sometimes gets Donald and Douglas mixed up with each other, but Donald is rather patient and knows she’s doing her best.

Skarloey and Rheneas Llywelyn

The old married couple in the Skarloey Mansion, and the adoptive parents of Rusty, Duncan, and Luke. They were both close friends since childhood, and their relationship only grew. Even when Rheneas was sent away to recover, Skarloey never stopped waiting for his partner to return. So, when Rheneas did return, they both decided to get married and settle down. Both are rather protective of the members under their household, and they never fail to do what they can to support the kiddos’ learning and give advice whenever needed.

And finally…

Luke O’ Glaisnigh and Millie Jeanne Violette

The Princess and the Pauper, if they were a couple. Luke is rather timid, especially since he had just received closure after the entire Blue Mountain Mystery episode, and he would much rather spend his days in a forest surrounded by deer whenever he is done with his work. Meanwhile, Millie is a princess and the determined, prim, and free-spirited adopted daughter/granddaughter of Stephen. Both of them balance out each other nicely, and they exude a rather wholesome passion towards each other.

How are David and Mary’s relationship?

Look, It's not great. It's certainly not what it once was.

Mary could still remember the day David graduated from the naval Academy. She'd stood at the entrance for a long while, just fifteen, staring up at the grand front of it, her father's hand on her shoulder.

"Come on, chick, we need to find our seats."

Her father had been proud of David, who'd stood winking at them as he was presented. Not Davey Sheffield anymore. Not Davey who'd been her best friend. Who'd hooted happily when she learned to ride a bike, when when she'd skinned her knee climbing a tree, not Davey who'd punched Roger Nellis in the stomach for trying to flip up her skirt.

This was Second Lieutenant David Sheffield now. And Mary could see that while her father was proud to have his son follow in his footsteps, while her Mother was proud, while Rule Britannia thundered around them, her mother was as terrified as she was.

And she watched as David got deployed, watched her mother freeze every time there was a knock at the door that she wasn't expecting, or the phone rang at an odd hour. She watched her mother kneel by the bed and pray and pray that David would be fine.

And he was. He always seemed to escape, though once he'd slipped on deck and broken his arm much to his embarrassment. He'd burst through the door of the house they'd grown up in, where they'd stayed up past when they were supposed to a snuck back downstairs to watch TV with a blanket over it, laughing and smiling and making jokes, he was still her favourite person. Still the older brother she remembered.

So much so that the very first person she'd called when a little girl had propositioned her in the supermarket and she'd fallen a little in love with her and her father at first sight and been David.

"Hey Davey. I went on a date today. A fourth date, actually."

David had cackled, "Please tell me Mum didn't finally wear you down to the point you went out with Nigel Cavendish?"

"Christ-No. His name's Tom Sharma, and I met him at ASDA, his daughter was sneaking sweets into the basket."

"His daughter? Mary if he's married-"

"He's a widower, his wife died soon after she was born. Her name's Katie." Mary had hummed, smiling to herself as she thought about the tiny girl who'd scrambled onto her lap this afternoon, legs swinging as she coloured in a picture of a dog, very haphazardly, chattering away about how she thought she might get to have some ice cream after dinner tonight. And the thing that had settled in Mary's chest the first time she'd ever seen the Sharma's grew a little more.

"okay so... This is going well? You're dating a man who has a little girl and you're happy about this. You love kids, this isn't a spiral right?"

"I- yeah. I... I don't know, it's going great and I, yeah I like Tom, and I like Katie. They're beautiful."

"Let me know when I can intimidate him then."

And it was barely even six months later when she sat with an engagement ring burning into her hand, watching Katie sit on her Mother's lap, her mother laughing delightedly as Katie slyly asked if maybe they could get her a goldfish for her birthday, Tom groaning sheepishly beside her when David nudged her as he sat on the sofa beside her.

"Your daughter's pretty fucking great."

"My-?" Because she felt it, right to the core of her, that Katie was her child, but part of her had expected to have to claw and fight to be seen that way.

David looked bewildered, gesturing at the tiny girl, "Katie? The adorable little thing with angel curls who clings to you? She's your daughter right?"

And Mary hadn't been able to keep the smile off her face when she said, "Yeah, she's my daughter."

She was proud, really, of how her family took to Katie. How her mother held her hand gently as they made their way around stores, how when they'd meet her friends she'd kneel down and say and have you met my Granddaughter Katie before? How her father would sit with katie on his knee while he read his newspaper and David would burst into the house and wink slyly at Katie before he'd say How about, little Kat, you take your Uncle Davey to the cinema hey? Mum's busy with the little Ducky but I want to go and see A Bug's Life, and I need someone to keep me company. And because of that, because of how much they loved her, Mary never thought he'd do this.

She never thought she'd have to stand in her kitchen while her brother, the person she'd been closest to in the entire world held the uniform he'd helped her daughter buy.

"David."

"Mary, I know you're probably really upset with me but-"

She couldn't even look at him, just stared out the kitchen window. "You can leave the uniform in the hall and get out."

He didn't move, just stared at her, his fingers tightening around the garment bag. "Mary, I'm in the military, Dad was as well. It's not a death sentence she's just-"

“She’s my child David! My Child. How dare you?!” She spat it at him, her hands clenched on the side of the table. Angry tears welling in her eyes at the injustice he couldn't even see. How Edwina had crawled into her bed last night and sobbed until she'd exhausted herself.

“She asked me to Mary. Katie came to me about this. She was going to enlist, at least this way she’ll have more authority, She’ll be better trained, more useful, safer.”

“She’s traumatised. Her father just died- She can’t-“

“She’s an adult Mary. She’s the same age I was when I went into the Navy.”

“If she dies, or gets hurt David, it’s on you. I’ll never forgive you for this!” Even as she said it, she'd hoped it would never come to that. But of course it had.

She'd called him, still sobbing from Sophie's voice on the phone, Anger and terror clawing at her, Sophie's mind replaying in her head Mary, I'm so so sorry. She's- I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry

"Mary is everything-?"

"Kate's been injured." Her chest heaved as she sunk to the floor in the kitchen, the cold tile the only thing keeping her present while her chest felt like it had been ripped open again. "She got shot down. She lay in the water for hours, dying before they could go back for her."

The silence was deafening, and but for David's breathing in the other end, but for the shuddered breath he took when he told his wife Katie's been shot down she would have thought he wasn't there.

"My child nearly died becasue of you! She might still die!" She was nearly hysterical, Edwina's sobs still echoing through the house. "They won't even tell me where she is."

"Mary, please I love Katie too. She's your daughter, she's my niece. I love her, and I'm sorry this happened."

"FIX IT!"

His voice broke, "I can't Mary. I'm sorry, I can't. I'm so sorry."

"You're a fucking Rear Admiral, David! You outrank nearly everyone in the fucking air force!" She knew it wasn't fair, knew how stubborn Kate could be, but it was so much easier to blame him. David who would take the abuse she hurled at him. "If you've ever cared about me, just bring my baby home!"

"I'm so sorry, Mary."

"This is your fault. This is your fault. This is your fault." She whispered it again and again until she fell asleep, and David never said a word, but she knew he was there.

Mary was numb, weeks later as she watched her daughter get unloaded on a stretcher in an airbase. Watched her weak smile as she woke from sedation, slowly being plugged into monitors but the look in her eyes was different. So much so that Mary was barely paying attention when Group Captain Haverford said,

"Rear Admiral Sheffield mentioned that you might want to-"

"Rear Admiral Sheffield?" Her body had gone cold, her attention snatched back from Kate. "What's he got to do with any of this?"

Group Captain Haverford looked a little perplexed. "He- intervened. Protocol really demands that Flight Lieutenant Sharma recuperate in a military hospital in Germany, these things are standard, but he demanded she be brought back to England. Caused quite a fuss actually, the higher ups are a little put out. I believe she's his niece? He was quite wild about you being kept away, Ma'am."

Mary felt her throat closing over, tears pricking at her eyes as she nodded.

And that night when she drove to David's house, and pushed past his wife to wrap her arms tightly around her brother for the first time since they'd laid her husband to rest. She finally felt at peace.

Born February 13th, 1991.

Born and raised in Dangam, Gwasuwon-do.

Perfectly followed in the steps her mother laid out for her and became an actress as per her mother’s dream.

Initially, she wanted to become a stylist or fashion designer but that fell through.

A makjang (soap opera/melodrama/think kimchi slap and Penthouse) actress, started acting when she was 20 where she mostly had small roles, b movies, etc. Only in the past few years began acting in bigger roles.

Notably acted in shows like Lady in Dignity and Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce).

Has a 3 year old child (Jisung) from a marriage that ended in divorce (husband was a con artist who claimed he was a wealthy and famous shaman when he was not) and their marriage only lasted for about 3 years.

During their marriage, she became more obsessed with the idea of shamanism due to his influence and became increasingly superstitious. YES, she does keep charms around and prays when she’s scared and will go to the shaman to get exorcised and what about it? ( She might have gone a little off mentally during that time tbh. )

In early 2022, a scandal involving her was released that she was having an affair with a married co-star for years and that it was the reason for her own divorce. The outlet report read that she was spotted at night getting tiramisu with married actor Shin Muyeol (46) and the two emerged from the restaurant smiling and laughing.

Turns out she was not a mistress and they were just discussing the show they were in. Because of her being typecast in “mistress” roles in dramas constantly, the image must have projected to her.

To get reprieve from the media, she moved back to Gwasuwon and has been there ever since!

Has the tendency to name drop and claim she knows big stars. ( Sure, Jan. ) She is still coming down from her celebrity and socialite disease, please bear with her.

Has horrible judgement when it comes to relationships and is quite gullible.

Notoriously dramatic and a bit all over the place. Tends to exaggerate and get emotional but... that seems to run in the family.

Would she die for her son? Yes.

Could she be keeping secrets that her mother is confiding in her about? Also, yes.

Socialite friends or anyone that she happened to know from Seoul or from her travels for acting gigs, etc.! There’s a huge gap of her being in Seoul mostly so there’s lots to explore there. ( So basically, from 2012 to 2021 is when those interactions happened. )

She lived in Gwasuwon until she was 21 years old. There’s bound to be quite a few people around her age who knew her since childhood, in high school, etc. or even because of her status as the mayor’s granddaughter since that’s pretty lucrative.

Her marriage lasted from 2018 to 2021. It is possible that she dated around here and there before and after because she’s a romantic at heart but it’s probable that most of them were a bit overblown by her because she really has that “fairytale romance” mindset which can be off-putting for some, for sure, especially if during the teenage and early adulthood years. ( * Any past r/s plots would need to be extensively plotted bc... Sihyun is Complicated. )

People she talks up about her “connections” to as a “celebrity” and claims she will always put them in contact but calls her out on some of her bullshit. Sure, she might know some but we are doubting you’re bffs with IU and Park Seojoon, ma’am.

In reality, she’s a B-tier celebrity but it’s possible you’ve seen some of her crazy melodrama appearances and b-movie roles that she took out of desperation. Maybe someone who constantly references it and she is kind of embarrassed. ( We thought you liked the star treatment, Sihyun?? )

Someone who could possibly have hooked her up in the past with a place ( as in giving her a deal on an apartment ) since she was absolutely not going to move back in with her mom.

Any daycare workers or potential tutors for her son. He is only 3 years old so what could you possibly need all that for, Sihyun? Well, you can never start too early, of course!

Someone who is trying to help her quit smoking. She picked up the habit in Seoul out of stress and has been wanting to stop because she doesn’t want her son around that but... Look at what is happening right now.

Someone who just does not find the Moon family to be reputable or trustworthy in any way ( and they just might not be ) and sort of makes it known. Expect her to get upset about that since she is very protective of her family as the oldest. 

Someone who she actually expresses that she’s terrified about what’s going on on the island about and tries to convince them that this is some horrible cosmic sign and they need to cleanse things asap!!!!!
